Transcript
- 0:00Hello there, it's time for most things Kenobi.
- 0:04I prefer all things Kenobi, but I suppose that's not the Jedi
- 0:08way, as long as it's not all things Anakin.
- 0:24Hi everyone. Welcome to another episode of
- 0:26Most Things Kenobi, a podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and all
- 0:29things Star Wars. I'm your host, Lauren.
- 0:32And I'm your host Leanne and this.
- 0:34Week we are talking about the duel at the end of Revenge of
- 0:40the Sith and I can't wait. My favorite subject?
- 0:45Obi Wan and Anakin at their peak.
- 0:49The Peak. It's crazy shit and there's so
- 0:53many ways we could analyze this. I feel like this could be a
- 0:57multiple part episode because of how many different ways you
- 1:01could approach it and like how long the duel is.
- 1:04Yeah, yeah, and our goal is to get to the following episode.
- 1:08The next is to compare this duel to their duel in the Kenobi show
- 1:14when they yeah. Me to gain it's.
- 1:17So good. I I can't wait because there's
- 1:20so many cool parallels and like opposites kind of in a in a way
- 1:25and. And you, you have a more trained
- 1:27eye for this, so I'm gonna let you talk more than I am going to
- 1:32talk. I think we came at it from
- 1:34different approaches, right? Because you were reading the
- 1:37novelization? Yeah, I decided to go back and
- 1:40see how that because it's been a long time since I read Revenge
- 1:44of the Sith novelization. It's one of my favorites, if not
- 1:47my favorite. We should do an episode just
- 1:50about the novelization because Kenobi Wolf gifted us the audio
- 1:54book, so we can. This is true.
- 1:56This is true. I I went paperback form for this
- 1:58one because that's all I had on me.
- 2:00But I mean, at the time I was doing this at work, but I was
- 2:05flipping through and I was reading.
- 2:08Just kind of my favorite moments, but I I wanted to hone
- 2:11in on the duel itself, and it's so crazy to go back and read the
- 2:16novelization after seeing the Kenobi duel.
- 2:20Because I texted you and I was like, there has to be something
- 2:26here. Did they reference it or is it
- 2:28just that beautifully tied together?
- 2:30Because I have some quotes that I'm going to sprinkle in through
- 2:34this episode and I'm going to resprinkle them.
- 2:38Again when we go over the Kenobi duel, because they could
- 2:42literally be discussing the exact same moment.
- 2:46That's so cool. So I was not expecting that.
- 2:49I just decide I'm like, oh, I haven't read this in a while.
- 2:51I'll go back and read like how it was written and I was like,
- 2:54oh shit, this is great. No, I haven't watched Revenge of
- 2:58the Sith since the Kenobi series came out, so that it was
- 3:01actually really interesting to to rewatch and.
- 3:06And I got emotional at the end, which I don't normally like.
- 3:10I do watching the Kenobi series, it makes me cry every time.
- 3:14And I I don't normally cry. And Revenge of the Sith like I
- 3:18feel it. It's so heartbreaking.
- 3:20But I'm not moved to tears at this time.
- 3:23I really was, because putting it into context with Clone Wars.
- 3:27Anakin again. Was painfully.
- 3:30I don't think I've watched it even since.
- 3:32Season seven of Clone Wars came out, so it was just like, oh, it
- 3:36hits a lot harder now. Yeah, I I just, I got to say
- 3:41this and I say this every fucking time.
- 3:43And I need to say it now. The way that Hayden handles A
- 3:46lightsaber, it does things to me, but he is so excellent.
- 3:55Yeah, him and you and are like perfect.
- 3:59I just don't know. It's so wonderful to see them
- 4:02back again at the in the Kenobi show.
- 4:04But like, you know, there's always those bad, those behind
- 4:06the scenes shots of them practicing and they're kind of
- 4:09goofing around and then you see how intense they like turn it on
- 4:13for the movie. Of course, you know, that's an
- 4:15actor's job, but it's literally like the friends we know from
- 4:19Clone Wars fighting. Yeah, that's what that moment
- 4:23when he says I hate you, it's. Just oh, it's awful.
- 4:26It hits so much harder now after you've watched everything
- 4:29they've been through, all the challenges they've, you know,
- 4:33conquered together, and then the loss they've both felt
- 4:36especially like with the Soca leaving and everything, it just
- 4:38adds this extra layer of being kicked while you're down.
- 4:44Totally. Well, that whole sequence is
- 4:46thrilling and exciting. It's also devastating at the
- 4:50same time, just like the Kenobi series.
- 4:52You know, I don't want to jump into that too early, but it's
- 4:54the same thing where you're like, ooh, this is going to be
- 4:57good. But also, yeah, it's going to
- 4:59rip my heart out. We guess that is Star Wars,
- 5:02right? Yes, it's greatness and terrible
- 5:05pain. So where do we start?
- 5:09I don't even know I. It's so epic.
- 5:12It's my favorite. I know a lot of people love Obi
- 5:15Wan, Quigon and Mall, you know, the Duel of the Fates.
- 5:21But this one, I think The Revenge of the Sith is my
- 5:24favorite. It just, it's so visually it
- 5:29just it's the comment, the emotion and culmination, the
- 5:32fiery, explosive. And of a friendship, it's like,
- 5:37perfect. I don't know, Mustafares.
- 5:39I know they needed a fire element to like, melt Anakin,
- 5:41but it's really good symbolism for the explosion and decimation
- 5:49of a friendship and a relationship of how many years
- 5:52you know. Yeah, I think that's a good
- 5:55place to start as the environment, because it is an
- 5:59absolute symbol like you said. Yeah, it's not even subtle.
- 6:04No. And it it shouldn't be.
- 6:06This is it. Like, this is where it all comes
- 6:09down to. This is it.
- 6:12And actually I have, you know, the beginning of the Revenge of
- 6:16the Sith novelization. It's like so perfect.
- 6:18Everyone knows the beginning of that novelization if you don't
- 6:21go read the first like 10 paragraphs.
- 6:22But my favorite line is though this is the end of the Age of
- 6:27heroes. It has saved its best for last
- 6:30and. That's the beginning of the
- 6:32novel, and literally that could be the introduction to their
- 6:36duel. This is the best.
- 6:39They saved their best for the last because this is it for
- 6:42them. They had to bring their best
- 6:44form, their best skill to fight each other.
- 6:48They knew each other so well that this was the top of the top
- 6:52of the top of what they brought. To fight against each other,
- 6:56it's so devastating. I love it.
- 7:00We've done some episodes kind of like adjacent to this subject in
- 7:05the past. We did one where we talked about
- 7:08how Obi Wan says to Yoda send me to kill the Emperor or the
- 7:13Chancellor River, like he says the word send me to kill him.
- 7:17Like don't send me to do this to Anakin and.
- 7:20People always talk about OK, well, like, he's a cinnamon bun
- 7:22and he's really not. He's not.
- 7:25He's absolutely not. But I do have quotes from the
- 7:27book, which I'll get to when we get to that part.
- 7:30Yeah, I think that there's some interesting ways to look at
- 7:34this, right? So I took the approach of kind
- 7:36of like cinematography a bit, and then I used a lot of fencing
- 7:40references. Yes, yes.
- 7:42Did research on sword fighting and it's not a great example of
- 7:48it, honestly. OK.
- 7:51But the it's kind of interesting because you can use a couple
- 7:54different approaches. I've listened to multiple
- 7:57swordsmen, I guess is how you say it, analyzing the fight.
- 8:01And they all say it's really not great as a sword fight, but they
- 8:05all love it because it's fun and it's got so much symbolic energy
- 8:10to it, but there's different ways you could look at it,
- 8:13right? So I was just kind of go through
- 8:15a few things that I I came across.
- 8:17Some of the biggest complaints they have is when they swing,
- 8:21they're not actually aiming for each other, they're aiming for
- 8:24each other's lightsabers. And yeah, fencing, you don't do
- 8:29that and and like a lot of times.
- 8:31Sword fights are actually in. Realistic sword fights are over
- 8:34and one to five moves. That's true.
- 8:37That is very true. And they often don't stand very
- 8:40close together. They're actually pretty far
- 8:42apart and you thrust forward. There's no thrusting in Revenge
- 8:47of the Sith, but they do use High Guard a lot where they have
- 8:50their their blades like above their head, which is actually
- 8:54realistic, and it's because you're swinging for the head is
- 8:57the most vulnerable part. And it keeps your legs out of
- 9:00the way when you're fighting that way, that's true.
- 9:03So, like, that's all very realistic.
- 9:06But they said there's like multiple opportunities where
- 9:09Obiwan could have killed Anakin. Like when when he's below him,
- 9:14actually, there's a few times where Anakin jumps at him and
- 9:17tries to kick him and Obiwan is a blade in his hand and they're
- 9:19like, he literally could have just cut him in half.
- 9:22Yeah, right. True.
- 9:24Something that I think is kind of interesting is yes, OK, maybe
- 9:27it's bad sword fighting. It's very entertaining, that's
- 9:30for sure, but. What if this is?
- 9:32Yeah, this is just cinema. I love it.
- 9:36Everything about it is, yes. But let's turn it on its ear and
- 9:41use that as a narrative analysis.
- 9:44Yes, they're swinging for each other's lightsabers.
- 9:47Everyone's not taking the opportunity.
- 9:50If you look at it narratively, he maybe he's not really wanting
- 9:54to kill his friend and he's trying to just match him and
- 9:58like maybe somehow still beat him down enough that he'll
- 10:02listen to reason. Yes.
- 10:05And it becomes clear that's never going to happen at a
- 10:07certain point. No, no, it becomes clear.
- 10:11But now I will supplement with the book.
- 10:14Yes. And what is written, because it
- 10:16it is literally what you're describing, the quote goes like
- 10:20this. I love this part.
- 10:22The quote goes like this. This was not Sith against Jedi.
- 10:25This was not light against dark or good against evil.
- 10:28It had nothing to do with duty or philosophy, religion or
- 10:32morals. It was Anakin against Obi Wan
- 10:35personally. Just the two of them and the
- 10:38damage they had done to each other.
- 10:40Then it goes on to describe Obi Wan back flipping, leaping.
- 10:44They're spinning. They're, you know, all this
- 10:45stuff. Then it says, and this is this
- 10:48is the this is the part. He was countering strikes from
- 10:51this creature of rage that had been his best friend, suddenly
- 10:53comprehended and unexpectedly profound truth.
- 10:56The man Obi Wan faced was everything that he had devoted
- 11:00his life to destroying, Murderer, traitor, fallen Jedi,
- 11:04Lord of the Sith. And here and now, despite it
- 11:06all, Obi Wan still loved him. Isn't that, like, so awful?
- 11:13And then I just want to sneak this in here.
- 11:15Think of the Kenobi duel. This is so heartbreaking.
- 11:18Yes. Oh my God.
- 11:19It's like a parent's pain, you know?
- 11:23Like your child can do all the worst things in the world and
- 11:26you'll still love them. What a lesson, What a lesson.
- 11:30I know I'll be 1 to To realize you can still love something
- 11:34that isn't. I mean, that is the that is so
- 11:38Kenobi, right? Like that.
- 11:40It is, it's. So Obi 1 to.
- 11:42To still be able to care and like have that empathy and love
- 11:47and compassion for something that is so far from what you
- 11:51believed was right. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:55And it, I just want to read a little bit more because it
- 11:58supplements, it kind of wraps it up.
- 12:00Yes, please. It goes on to say Yoda had said
- 12:04it flat out allow such attach attachments to pass out of one's
- 12:08life. A Jedi must.
- 12:09But Obi Wan had never let himself understand.
- 12:12He had argued for Anakin, made excuses covered for him again
- 12:15and again and again. All the while this attachment he
- 12:17denied even feeling had blinded him to the dark path his best
- 12:21friend walked. Obiwan knew there was in the
- 12:24end, only one answer for the attachment.
- 12:26He let it go now. How many times has poor Obiwan
- 12:30had to let it go before? Oh my God, it's so good.
- 12:35And this is probably the hardest one, right?
- 12:38And it won't be the last time he has to do this.
- 12:41Yeah, I'm going to reread this entire thing when we get to the
- 12:45next episode because it's so mind boggling to me how the
- 12:48parallels and truly that is why we love Obi Wan.
- 12:54He is this Jedi. He does follow the code.
- 12:57He he has suffered tremendous loss and he still has to like
- 13:03deal with the fact that his best friend is going, he's fighting
- 13:05him. It's like you said, he's trying
- 13:07to just wear him down, right? Anakin's throwing everything
- 13:10he's got at him. He's going to tire.
- 13:12Obi Wan's just on the defensive the entire time.
- 13:14They're doing their forms perfectly.
- 13:17Anakin's throwing all offensive form 5, right?
- 13:19Obi wants all defensive Form 3 so they could go for hours like
- 13:23this, you know? And Obi Wan is just like, let
- 13:25him expend all of his energy and then like you said, maybe I can
- 13:28talk to him or. Talk some sense or try one more
- 13:31time. Because I don't think Obi Wan
- 13:33wanted to kill him until he had to say there was only one answer
- 13:36for this attachment and he had to let it go.
- 13:38Yeah, and that is probably the hardest part of that entire
- 13:41battle, his internal battle well.
- 13:43Just we'll talk about this next week.
- 13:46Just the very fact that he's standing there while his friend
- 13:49is in agony, screaming and he. He doesn't.
- 13:53We've done an episode about this.
- 13:55He doesn't kill Anakin, which maybe would have been the more
- 13:58merciful thing to do. It's like he brings himself
- 14:01right up to the brink and still, like doesn't want to deliver
- 14:07that death blow. And granted Anakin's
- 14:10incapacitated, he has no weapon. A Jedi is not supposed to kill.
- 14:13You know, somebody who's. Indefensible.
- 14:17You know it's wrong. Leaving him there like that is
- 14:20cruel in and of its own way. I think Obiwan thought he died,
- 14:25Obviously. We kind of get that sense right
- 14:26in the Kenobi series. He thought Anakin died on
- 14:28Mustafar. Right.
- 14:31But he walks away before he's dead and like to have, first of
- 14:36all, if you've ever, like, had a bad breakup or anything like
- 14:39that where you have to walk away while you're in so much pain and
- 14:42it's like, you know, it's the right thing to do, but you still
- 14:45have to do it, you're both damaged by the whole experience.
- 14:49Like, I don't even know how he was able to carry on
- 14:52conversations within a few hours of window of this, You know,
- 14:57it's like. I mean.
- 14:59What followed this is he had to go then take care of the kids
- 15:02that Padme was birthing and then dying like it's just one thing
- 15:06after another after another. And at this point he thinks that
- 15:10Yoda has also died because he can see a Palpatine ship showing
- 15:15up on Mustafar. Oh, does it say that in the
- 15:18book? Yeah, in the book.
- 15:20And he said, oh, my friend must have failed.
- 15:22There's nothing left. So he walked away thinking Yoda
- 15:25was dead. But of course he finds out.
- 15:27Sooner rather than later that that's not the case, but he sees
- 15:31Palpatine ship and says like, shit, I might be the only one
- 15:36left. God, that's so interesting.
- 15:38I I also have this entire quote saved because it was also quite,
- 15:43I mean you you segwayed perfectly into it.
- 15:47It was the it's the last piece of of the duel quote.
- 15:51In the end there was only one choice.
- 15:53It was a choice. That Obi Wan had made many years
- 15:56before when he had passed his trials of Jedi Knighthood and
- 15:59sworn himself to the Jedi forever.
- 16:02In the end, he was still Obi Wan Kenobi and he was still a Jedi
- 16:06and he would not murder a helpless man.
- 16:08He would leave it to the will of the Force.
- 16:10He turned and walked away. After a moment, he began to run.
- 16:14He began to run because he realized if he was fast enough,
- 16:16there was one thing he could still do for Anakin.
- 16:19He could still do honor to the memory of the man he had loved
- 16:22and the vanished order they both had served, and that was to go
- 16:26save Padme. Oh my.
- 16:27God. Wow.
- 16:29So again, the purpose driven man that we all talk about love on
- 16:33this show had found another purpose in that immediate
- 16:36moment. To drive him forward and out of
- 16:39that terrible moment which is into another terrible.
- 16:41Moment. We've seen it, right?
- 16:42Like over and over again with Qui Gun.
- 16:45His reason to keep going is to care for Anakin.
- 16:49With the teen, his reason to keep going was because he had
- 16:52his duty and like she wouldn't have wanted him to give up on
- 16:56who he was. Just like over and over all of
- 16:59this heartbreak, he somehow finds a reason to keep going.
- 17:03And some people, like I've heard people scoff at that when people
- 17:07hit. Hardship and they finally, when
- 17:09they say there's a you know, there's always a reason behind
- 17:11why things happen. Some people laugh at that idea
- 17:14laugh at it all you want. Shouldn't we take what we can to
- 17:18keep going. Absolutely.
- 17:19We have to. There's always hope.
- 17:22Yes, why would you give up on hope?
- 17:24Why would you throw your hands up and say, I guess this is as
- 17:27good as it's going to get, like you could always.
- 17:30Find a reason to keep going, just as much as you could find a
- 17:33reason to give up. Jenny has this quote she says
- 17:36all the time. But what if it all works out?
- 17:38Yeah. I mean, you're 50% the glass is
- 17:41what, half full and half empty. It'd still be half full.
- 17:45You could still make it out. You could still try.
- 17:48Right. It's just he's an amazing
- 17:51character. He's really an inspiring
- 17:53character because of that. I don't know, just this is might
- 17:58be a really dumb question. But did all we want get used to
- 18:03having to do this over and over? Does is it possible for a human
- 18:08to to have to do? Am I ignorant for asking that?
- 18:11I don't think so. I don't think it's ignorant at
- 18:13all. I think it depends on the
- 18:15person. I think some people are really
- 18:17worn down by these experiences and other people recognize like,
- 18:22oh, this is one of those things where I'm going to have to use
- 18:26use one of my coping mechanisms, you know?
- 18:30Right. And no one's right or wrong for
- 18:32how they deal with trauma and and pain or any situation, but I
- 18:37can't help but think of Obi Wan's fighting style.
- 18:40You and I have talked about it before.
- 18:42He learns from his previous battles and I think you can also
- 18:47apply that to emotional battles you learn from.
- 18:51You know the previous hurt you had to let go, Let's say Satine.
- 18:55You know, the most recent before Anakin?
- 18:57I guess you would know like, OK, well this worked for me last
- 19:00time. Maybe if I just refocus my
- 19:02energy on something, a purpose. And that's why I think Obi Wan
- 19:05was always able to push forward because he always made sure that
- 19:08he had. Purpose external to himself,
- 19:11which we'll see again. And yeah, talk about this later
- 19:13on, like, because that's the next tool.
- 19:15He's altruistic. He is always for the greater
- 19:19good. That's why he even join like
- 19:21stays a Jedi when multiple times he has the opportunity to turn
- 19:25his back on it. If he wanted to, he doesn't
- 19:27because he believes in that greater good.
- 19:30Yeah, I think it's. He's such a character I would
- 19:34aspire to be like. So I would not want to live his
- 19:38life. Right.
- 19:40I just to have the amount of grace every single time, every
- 19:44challenge like just that maybe just take a chip of that off,
- 19:50you know? Yeah, there's a couple of things
- 19:54in the cinematography I'd love to talk about if you're gay.
- 19:57Yes, please. I love your point of view on
- 19:59this stuff. You've got the eye for it,
- 20:00you've got the training for it. Well, there's.
- 20:03It's not as lyrical, I would say, as some of the
- 20:07cinematography. It's pretty, pretty
- 20:09straightforward for the most part on all the stuff.
- 20:11But there are certain things that I found really interesting,
- 20:13like obviously the environment right, is burning lava.
- 20:17It's basically this volatile, precarious environment where
- 20:22like not only is it explosive and dangerous and representative
- 20:27of Anakin, but it's also Obi one on this precipice, right?
- 20:31Like it. Yes, yes, you're right.
- 20:35Any moment it is like there's danger that could just swallow
- 20:38him up without, you know, the environment could swallow him
- 20:42up, you know. One false move thing, whether it
- 20:45be emotionally or physically, and it all goes to shit, yes.
- 20:50Exactly. It's it's cool.
- 20:52And this all like because of the environment, it ties into the
- 20:55color scheme that's going on. And yes, again, it's not subtle
- 20:59at all. There's obviously red.
- 21:02Which is anger, violence, passion and love.
- 21:06Because Padme is there, that's all part of that as well.
- 21:09And then there's obviously a lot of black, which is grief, fear
- 21:13and evil. So it's really dangerous
- 21:16environment. Oh yeah, it's awful, but.
- 21:19Something I love is they're lightsabers are blue.
- 21:23Right. And it's this tiny little
- 21:25winking light most of the time, especially from far away.
- 21:28Like, especially when they're on the.
- 21:30I don't even know the pillar, you know that falls into the
- 21:33lava and you see them from really far away.
- 21:35All you see is their lightsabers, just this color,
- 21:38like winking in the the crazy red environment.
- 21:43The blue lightsaber is a is a protector.
- 21:46That's the symbolism, defense, defense of good protection of
- 21:50all that and. And in cinema cinematography it
- 21:56represents calm. It does, yeah.
- 21:59It can also represent like cold and like depression and
- 22:02isolation, which also definitely.
- 22:05Like I mean at that moment. Yes, like tie into that
- 22:08completely. But it's also like if it if
- 22:10you're looking at the calm perspective, it's like Obiwan is
- 22:13the calm in the storm even though he always.
- 22:15Has been in this. Tumult.
- 22:18He is still this centered person and you see it in like Anakin's
- 22:22face, right? He has this look of
- 22:25determination but really he's so passionate he's vulnerable.
- 22:29Yes, yes, yes. And everyone has this look on
- 22:32his face, like he's constantly trying to solve a puzzle the
- 22:35whole time. Like, he's like.
- 22:36He's totally right. He's.
- 22:38Thinking he's anticipating he's trying to like match Anakin
- 22:43without killing him, you know, and it's it's really interesting
- 22:47and I I love the Force push. Moment where they're in that
- 22:52equal force push. Because I've said this before
- 22:54that some people have said that everyone's just deflecting
- 22:57Anakin, but if you watch it really closely, they do it at
- 23:00the same time. And so it's showing that they
- 23:04can't really get the upper hand on each other and in the same,
- 23:08same sequence where they're like standing there twirling and the
- 23:12lightsabers are just like twirling, twirling, twirling.
- 23:15It's the meme. Yes, exactly, I've heard.
- 23:20People shit on that a lot as it's absolutely ridiculous as a
- 23:24as a fencing technique. But the cinema or the
- 23:27choreographer, I've heard explaining that they're
- 23:30readjusting to get an upper hand on each other and neither one
- 23:34can do it and. That makes sense.
- 23:38The point there is that, like again, they're so evenly matched
- 23:43that Anakin isn't actually more powerful than Obiwan.
- 23:47It's just that he trained him, he taught him, he knows all of
- 23:51his little tricks, you know. And so it's I really loved
- 23:54seeing the representation of their equality in in, in all of
- 24:00this. And also I just have to say that
- 24:01little sequence where they go through the hallway.
- 24:04Yes, that's probably my favorite.
- 24:06The outside going in, It's so Empire Strikes Back.
- 24:10Yeah, I I really love it. It's probably my favorite part
- 24:13of that whole duel. It's always been that hallway
- 24:15was always like, yeah, oh, here it comes moment.
- 24:18And then, I don't know, I have a thing for Vader and hallways.
- 24:23Shit, I didn't make the connection till now.
- 24:27God, I have a type again. That's so funny, but they kind
- 24:35of they mirror it in the next. We'll talk about the next
- 24:38episode. They mirror that because it's
- 24:39not a hallway, but it's a narrow passage that they go through
- 24:42between all the rocks. And again, like the blade is
- 24:45hitting every side as they go through it and it's this like
- 24:48claustrophobic idea of. Not only are they coming from
- 24:52the outside platform, they go through this tunnel, which of
- 24:56course, tunnels are symbolic in their own sense.
- 24:58It's a period of transition, you know, And they go into this
- 25:01inner environment where they're closed in and they're stuck and
- 25:05it's claustrophobic. And then then when they, they
- 25:07leave the exterior, that is where it's the most dangerous.
- 25:12You know, it's like inside Mustafa now.
- 25:15There's nowhere to retreat. It's so dangerous.
- 25:17And they're in the belly of the beast, you know, I just.
- 25:20Yeah. That's all I've so good.
- 25:24It's so good, though. It's.
- 25:26I really, I don't know. It's tops to me.
- 25:28I you have to walk through fire, right?
- 25:30To get to the end. And that's literally what Obi
- 25:33Wan's doing. Yeah, I guess Anakin is too, but
- 25:37I mean, he's not the victor. Well, it's kind of what we said.
- 25:41I think it was the last episode when we said, yeah, we're
- 25:45talking about Attack of the Clones and how Anakin.
- 25:48Runs and does all this crazy shit and Obi Wan walks and they
- 25:51arrive at the same place at the same time, but everyone hasn't
- 25:54expended all of his energy to get there, and you're still
- 25:57seeing that here to this day. It's a really cool
- 26:00representation of their characters.
- 26:03And we see it again in the series multiple times, not just
- 26:07in their dual. Yeah.
- 26:09But Obi Wan is I mean. They go back.
- 26:13These two go back and it's evident and it's that's really
- 26:17sad. But I just love can I, can I be
- 26:21shallow for two seconds, please. I love how sweaty Hayden is
- 26:28during all this. Like when he's doing the he's
- 26:31pushing the lightsaber into like he's trying to get it to like
- 26:34Obi Wan's neck or his face or something and.
- 26:37Yes. It reminds me a little bit.
- 26:40When they're getting to Kadavo and he's got the lightsaber
- 26:44pointed at the the pilot of that ship that him and and Asoka's
- 26:49like Asoka's like Ana can't like you know, yes there's no Asoka
- 26:55there. Yeah, there's nothing holding
- 26:57him back anymore. Obiwan has seen all this.
- 27:00Obiwan wasn't in the ship that day, but I'm sure that's not the
- 27:02first time, you know. He's had to be like Ana can get
- 27:06that lightsaber away from his neck, you know?
- 27:10But in the book, and this is what I I forgot all about this
- 27:14part. And I you know, my love for
- 27:16metal arms and hands. It's described of him like
- 27:21flicking his finger and opening up the medal of Anakin's hand to
- 27:25release his grip. Oh, how fucking cool is that?
- 27:29Yeah, I I vaguely remembered that because it turned me on
- 27:32when I first read the novelization, but like, but.
- 27:38It's a it's a fantastic, like like a moment.
- 27:42He had clarity enough to be like, I can do this move to
- 27:45unlock his hand because it's the metal and he's not relying on
- 27:50the force necessarily to hold that grip.
- 27:53So that's his hand. That's his sword hand.
- 27:57Yeah. So he opened it because I I just
- 27:59love it. Everyone's a thinker.
- 28:01He remains calm. He has clarity.
- 28:04Even despite the emotional turmoil of the entire incident
- 28:08and the onslaught that Anakin's bringing physically, Obi Wan
- 28:12still has. What can I do to to get one up
- 28:14on him? Well, and that's this is really
- 28:17hot to me. Like the the fact that Obiwan
- 28:20has faced how many siths and always holds his own against it,
- 28:25like exception, you know the beginning of the Kenobi series
- 28:28he has some trouble but otherwise like.
- 28:32Understandable. Yes, yes, He's been out of
- 28:35practice. He's a little rest.
- 28:37Yeah. But yeah, I mean, I love that
- 28:40about him and. He's not a cinnamon.
- 28:41Roll. He's not a cinnamon roll, but
- 28:43he's like people kind of forget how powerful he actually is.
- 28:47Like as a he wasn't a teenager. I guess he was in his early 20s,
- 28:50defeated mall. Yeah, wild.
- 28:53I mean the amount of mental what's the word?
- 28:57I don't want to see gymnastics, but it's like the mental
- 28:59fortitude. Yeah.
- 29:02To do this over and over and over, I mean we could go back to
- 29:06the episode in The Clone Wars where he and Adi Gallia and she
- 29:11dies and he has to move on to take on Mall and Savage and the
- 29:17poor man. I love the cinematography talk,
- 29:21some of my favorite stuff because it just ties it all
- 29:24together with a Pretty Little depressing bow.
- 29:30It's true. And honestly, there's even
- 29:32better cinematography in the Kenobi series.
- 29:36I can't wait to talk about that for next week because I don't
- 29:39know, it just like everything we just talked about, colors,
- 29:42environment, everything is opposite.
- 29:44And it's it's really, really deliberate.
- 29:48To wrap this up, I'll just reiterate the first sentence.
- 29:51So this is the end of The Age of Heroes.
- 29:53It has saved its best for last. Join us back here next week.
- 30:03We are going to dive into the second-half of this
- 30:05conversation, where we analyze the final duel from the Kenobi
- 30:10series and we'll show you how it ties into Resvenge of the Sith.
- 30:14And it's gonna be freaking awesome.
- 30:18Last week we talked about leadership in Star Wars and some
- 30:21of the leaders we talked about. We didn't get to all of them,
- 30:25and one of the ones I wanted to get to was Han Solo.
- 30:29And our dear friend Kenobi Wolf brought up that he would follow
- 30:33Han Solo circa Return of the Jedi.
- 30:37Han Solo, yes, and I couldn't have agreed more because the
- 30:41point I wanted to bring up. In the episode was there's a
- 30:45there's a leader hiding in Han. He just had to like break
- 30:49through his his imposter syndrome we'll say, to let it
- 30:53out. And I think Luke saw that in
- 30:56him. Leia saw that in him.
- 30:57Kenobi Wolf sees that in him. We all see that in Han.
- 31:00And it only took Han seeing it in himself to become, you know,
- 31:05someone that people really trusted look towards and he was
- 31:09able to lead in some of the most crucial moments of the battle
- 31:12for the Galaxy and. Thank you, Kenobi Woolfer
- 31:15bringing it up because he was on the list and we didn't get to
- 31:18him. There's so many, there are so
- 31:19many examples of great leadership in Star Wars and Han.
- 31:22We salute you. Thank.
