- 3:21Speaker 3: Guest host.
- 3:22Speaker 9: In July.
- 3:24Speaker 4: SEC Media Days just wrapped up today and one of
- 3:29Speaker 4: the more anticipated press conferences was from the new head
- 3:34Speaker 4: coach of the LSU Tigers, Lane Kiffin. And I mentioned
- 3:39Speaker 4: it earlier, the new record for most words by a
- 3:44Speaker 4: coach in their opening statement twenty eight hundred and seven,
- 3:46Speaker 4: according to Brett McMurphy. So we're gonna hear what Lane
- 3:50Speaker 4: had to say, and then the questions that the few
- 3:54Speaker 4: questions that they had time for. Here's Lane Kiffin.
- 3:58Speaker 1: We begin our day with the LSU head football coach
- 4:02Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin.
- 4:03Speaker 9: Well, thank you, Commissioner. You know, I met the commissioner
- 4:07Speaker 9: seventeen years ago I was head coach at Tennessee. I
- 4:11Speaker 9: just think about, you know, you can never predict the
- 4:15Speaker 9: future of your life and the directions that it goes.
- 4:17Speaker 9: Seventeen years later, third SEC job. He was the associate
- 4:23Speaker 9: commissioner at the time and for Commissioner Slive, and I
- 4:29Speaker 9: just have great respect for Greg and what he's done.
- 4:33Speaker 9: And then I think about the seventeen years and I
- 4:35Speaker 9: think about how far the SEC has come since that,
- 4:39Speaker 9: since then when I first got into the conference, and
- 4:42Speaker 9: through his leadership. You know, leadership, especially in the public eye,
- 4:46Speaker 9: is not easy, and he has a really difficult job.
- 4:50Speaker 9: And I think Greg does an amazing job, amazing job
- 4:54Speaker 9: of communicating with us as head coaches, and we don't
- 4:59Speaker 9: always agree on his decisions, but I also understand now
- 5:04Speaker 9: being around longer, and he has sixteen schools to please
- 5:08Speaker 9: in fan bases and athletic directors, head coaches and presidents
- 5:12Speaker 9: to answer to. So many times his decisions that he
- 5:15Speaker 9: has to come up and I appreciate him for the
- 5:17Speaker 9: strength that he shows. Is really he's just making a
- 5:20Speaker 9: decision based off what he's told to do by the
- 5:24Speaker 9: ADS and specifically by the President. So I appreciate Greg,
- 5:30Speaker 9: I appreciate our friendship and you know, kind of growing
- 5:34Speaker 9: through a lot of things together throughout the different stops
- 5:37Speaker 9: of coming back to the SEC. Tampa is a really
- 5:41Speaker 9: special place. I think it's kind of things just happen
- 5:46Speaker 9: sometimes and flying down here just kind of putting thoughts together.
- 5:52Speaker 9: You know that as the head coach of LSU, this
- 5:55Speaker 9: being the first time on the podium at SEC media
- 5:57Speaker 9: Day and being in Tampa for the first time. As
- 6:01Speaker 9: Greg alluded to, this is a really special place, not
- 6:04Speaker 9: just for my dad, but for my family, my kids,
- 6:08Speaker 9: all for grandparents lived here in Tampa. This was a
- 6:11Speaker 9: place that we came to every summer, and great memories
- 6:15Speaker 9: and the glaciers of the Bucks have been phenomenal to
- 6:19Speaker 9: our family throughout everything, and over the last two summers
- 6:23Speaker 9: of losing both parents and both having services down here
- 6:26Speaker 9: in Tampa. So really great place and really a lot
- 6:30Speaker 9: of great memories here and a lot of appreciation for
- 6:32Speaker 9: people here over our time in Tampa. So these seven
- 6:37Speaker 9: months at LSU have been awesome. It's been amazing, you know,
- 6:41Speaker 9: to come into Baton Rouge in the state of Louisiana
- 6:43Speaker 9: and the acceptance and how great they've been to my family,
- 6:48Speaker 9: and the commissioner talked about, you know, to have a son,
- 6:52Speaker 9: Knox playing on campus and every morning they practice and
- 6:55Speaker 9: then he just can walk over from practice on to
- 7:00Speaker 9: campus is really special in how the community has been
- 7:03Speaker 9: to us as family and the state, you know, over
- 7:07Speaker 9: seven months, just seeing that Louisiana has built off hard
- 7:09Speaker 9: working people that are really passionate and love football, and
- 7:14Speaker 9: I think that really fits in well with our staff
- 7:17Speaker 9: and the values and principles that we bring into our organization,
- 7:21Speaker 9: into our football program. So that's been great, and there's
- 7:24Speaker 9: so many things to do in Baton Rouge and the
- 7:26Speaker 9: New Orleans right up the road. It's been great for
- 7:28Speaker 9: our staff and for their families and been very appreciative
- 7:31Speaker 9: of that. You know. One of the things that has
- 7:33Speaker 9: really stuck out to me has been the alignment at
- 7:38Speaker 9: LSU from the top down, you know, from President Russ
- 7:42Speaker 9: to burge osbur athletic director to our board of supervisors.
- 7:48Speaker 9: You know, that alignment has been great. From the first
- 7:52Speaker 9: time I met with them, and then a lot of
- 7:54Speaker 9: times people, you know, schools recruit just like coaches do,
- 7:59Speaker 9: and then is it that way when you get there,
- 8:00Speaker 9: And it's been amazing that alignment and commitment to building
- 8:05Speaker 9: a championship program has been great. You know. One of
- 8:10Speaker 9: the things at LSU in taking it was talking about,
- 8:13Speaker 9: you know, the opportunities for the football players and the
- 8:17Speaker 9: ability to recruit great players around the country, and one
- 8:21Speaker 9: of those things that is branding that you one of
- 8:23Speaker 9: the reasons you come to LSU. We talked about it
- 8:25Speaker 9: being just different. You know, this week I was meeting
- 8:29Speaker 9: with our Nike rep. You know, think about how different
- 8:33Speaker 9: it is for kids in in IL opportunities to come LSU.
- 8:38Speaker 9: You know, we have twelve football players that have in
- 8:41Speaker 9: IL deals with Nike. No school in America has more
- 8:45Speaker 9: than eight. So think about the difference of that as
- 8:48Speaker 9: branding about coming to LSU as a football player. Jordan's Seaton,
- 8:52Speaker 9: our left tackle, has an IO deal with Nike. There
- 8:55Speaker 9: has never been an offensive alignment ever to have one
- 8:57Speaker 9: in college with Nike. So you know that that's just
- 9:00Speaker 9: one of the many things when we talk about LSU
- 9:02Speaker 9: being different and why it is a different place to
- 9:05Speaker 9: come and when you come in the association with LSU
- 9:09Speaker 9: and the branding that goes with that nationally has really
- 9:13Speaker 9: been amazing to see. And that really goes into the
- 9:17Speaker 9: blueprint of what we're building and what I said seven
- 9:21Speaker 9: months ago and I took the job, We're coming to
- 9:23Speaker 9: LSU to sign the best players in the country out
- 9:27Speaker 9: of high school and then mix that with the best
- 9:32Speaker 9: portal players in the country and put them together. And
- 9:35Speaker 9: that's led us into this roster that we have now,
- 9:37Speaker 9: which is a really good mixture of that. You have
- 9:40Speaker 9: some elite high school players, we just signed some of
- 9:42Speaker 9: the best the alignment in America. You know that'll be
- 9:46Speaker 9: true freshmen, and then some elite portal first round portal
- 9:50Speaker 9: players coming into that combination. That roster is exciting to
- 9:54Speaker 9: work with. I can't wait to get to the field,
- 9:57Speaker 9: to get back to fall camp to do that. But
- 10:00Speaker 9: it also excites me about the future of LSU two.
- 10:03Speaker 9: Not just this year. We put together a roster that
- 10:06Speaker 9: can win now, but as I look at when you
- 10:09Speaker 9: build the program, where it really will go to another
- 10:12Speaker 9: level is how you build your depth, and that you
- 10:15Speaker 9: can't necessarily build the first year, but then you can
- 10:19Speaker 9: once you sign the high school players in back to
- 10:22Speaker 9: back classes and portal players. Remember, guys, I think the
- 10:25Speaker 9: portal is thought so much about like every portal player
- 10:29Speaker 9: is a senior or a one year player. That's not
- 10:30Speaker 9: the case. A lot of times you sign a portal player,
- 10:33Speaker 9: they may have two three years of eligibility left. So
- 10:38Speaker 9: then you have them in your program. Now you go
- 10:40Speaker 9: into year two, you've coached them already. Maybe they didn't
- 10:43Speaker 9: even all the portal players aren't top players, you know,
- 10:46Speaker 9: you build your depth through that, so they may be
- 10:49Speaker 9: backups in year one and then year two they're your starters.
- 10:51Speaker 9: So that's really exciting to me that we were able
- 10:54Speaker 9: to build a roster that we can win now. And
- 10:57Speaker 9: to see the success of the high school EAT players
- 11:00Speaker 9: coming last year, committeing this year into this class, and
- 11:05Speaker 9: then the portal players that were able to sign in
- 11:06Speaker 9: such a short period of time last year and now
- 11:10Speaker 9: to have a whole year leading up to that. The
- 11:13Speaker 9: future is really bright and really amazing at LSU of
- 11:17Speaker 9: what's to come. You know, when you take over a program,
- 11:21Speaker 9: it's really exciting. You know, I'm really fortunate commission I
- 11:25Speaker 9: were talking back there and bum Bomb, our historian of
- 11:29Speaker 9: SEC you know, gave me the stat there's never been
- 11:32Speaker 9: a head coach to have three sec jobs and that
- 11:35Speaker 9: we're in the conference and that that's really amazing to
- 11:39Speaker 9: have those opportunities and be part of that. And it's
- 11:42Speaker 9: so exciting for me when you take over a new job.
- 11:46Speaker 9: And I've just kind of if you follow my life,
- 11:49Speaker 9: I've built my life about pushing out of comfort and
- 11:53Speaker 9: that may not be for everybody, and that's fine, that's
- 11:55Speaker 9: just how I am. And so this job has really
- 11:58Speaker 9: pushed me out of comfort to to take a new
- 12:00Speaker 9: job to be at LSU. Like everyone talks about the
- 12:03Speaker 9: pressure of LSU and what comes with that, and there's
- 12:08Speaker 9: more things to be done as the head coach of
- 12:11Speaker 9: LSU the newhere I've been that are asked of me,
- 12:14Speaker 9: and I've really enjoyed that and it's been exciting to
- 12:17Speaker 9: do that and to rebuild within a program, a roster,
- 12:22Speaker 9: and to come in and a team come off of
- 12:25Speaker 9: a seven and six season and then the expectations that
- 12:27Speaker 9: everybody in the media has that we're supposed to be
- 12:29Speaker 9: this great team right away. That's an awesome challenge. You
- 12:33Speaker 9: want to talk about getting uncomfortable that that does it,
- 12:37Speaker 9: you know, expectations make you uncomfortable. They make you not
- 12:40Speaker 9: be able to just go through motions in any aspect
- 12:44Speaker 9: of your program. So that's been awesome and I really
- 12:49Speaker 9: just can't wait to get on the field with them.
- 12:51Speaker 9: You know, this has been seven months. There's been a
- 12:53Speaker 9: lot of stuff, and you have the high school, then
- 12:55Speaker 9: you have the portal, and you have spring ball, and
- 12:57Speaker 9: you have all the things. And to just go coach
- 13:01Speaker 9: with them on the field and to put these players
- 13:04Speaker 9: together and start moving the pieces around and get them
- 13:07Speaker 9: to develop. That's always been something I think we've done
- 13:10Speaker 9: really well. And all also has always been really exciting
- 13:12Speaker 9: to me when you take the pieces of a new
- 13:15Speaker 9: team's new years and if you look at our teams
- 13:18Speaker 9: over the course of time, especially offensively, they look different
- 13:21Speaker 9: every year because they're based off of the pieces. They
- 13:24Speaker 9: don't just run the same plays and run the same systems.
- 13:27Speaker 9: And that's exciting to me to come in and get
- 13:30Speaker 9: these pieces from everywhere and to put them together. But
- 13:33Speaker 9: you've got to get on the grass to do it.
- 13:35Speaker 9: And the excitement of the schedule and to coach in
- 13:39Speaker 9: Tiger Stadium and have the big opener against Clemson. Just
- 13:44Speaker 9: really every day pushes us to be the best and
- 13:47Speaker 9: really is exciting as a city to get back there.
- 13:49Speaker 9: So the three players today that we brought that wasn't
- 13:52Speaker 9: an easy choice. We had a lot of really, really
- 13:54Speaker 9: good players. And you know, we brought three players. We
- 14:00Speaker 9: left Sam our quarterback at this is an interesting time
- 14:02Speaker 9: where this fell. We actually this morning had player led
- 14:06Speaker 9: practices and so Sam was able to stay for that
- 14:10Speaker 9: and Sam's doing an amazing job. You know, these three
- 14:13Speaker 9: players that we brought today, I think are an interesting
- 14:15Speaker 9: combination because you get a little bit of everything to
- 14:19Speaker 9: me of what college football is now. You know, TJ
- 14:24Speaker 9: coming through the portal, coming from Ole Miss to LSU.
- 14:30Speaker 9: Haven't been here a year before with another school. You
- 14:32Speaker 9: never thought that happened years ago. And so to have
- 14:35Speaker 9: a portal player that left the team to come to us,
- 14:38Speaker 9: and then you have Wit that had a chance to
- 14:41Speaker 9: go to the NFL Draft, and a lot of people
- 14:44Speaker 9: would have in his situation with a coaching change and
- 14:47Speaker 9: haven't played really well, and Witt decided to stay. He
- 14:51Speaker 9: wanted to see LSU return to dominance, to return to
- 14:56Speaker 9: the style of play that he grew up watching, which
- 14:58Speaker 9: was the reason why he came here he wanted to
- 15:00Speaker 9: come back to make sure he was part of that.
- 15:03Speaker 9: And then you have Trey Dez of someone that in
- 15:06Speaker 9: high school, stayed in Louisiana, went t LSU and now
- 15:10Speaker 9: playing great and also had a chance to go into
- 15:14Speaker 9: the portal like all kids, and decided to stay with
- 15:17Speaker 9: the new staff. So I think it's you'll really enjoy
- 15:19Speaker 9: these three. And again that was a tough decision because
- 15:22Speaker 9: there's a lot of household name players we could have
- 15:25Speaker 9: brought today. You know the question the commissioner mentioned there
- 15:30Speaker 9: about social media and Knox, and so I think as
- 15:35Speaker 9: I look back over my life, one of the things
- 15:37Speaker 9: that has been great is subtracting things as you get older,
- 15:40Speaker 9: and I think that's a big part of growth if
- 15:43Speaker 9: you really want to keep growing. A lot of people
- 15:45Speaker 9: add things as they go versus subtracting things that are issues,
- 15:49Speaker 9: whether that's diet, whether that's in my situation, alcohol, whether
- 15:55Speaker 9: that's things that are subtracted along the way, toxic relationships,
- 15:59Speaker 9: things that as you grow you decide, Okay, I'm going
- 16:02Speaker 9: to continue to grow. And Knox one days, like dad,
- 16:06Speaker 9: there's no way you could get off social media. And
- 16:09Speaker 9: if you know me, like that's the best thing to do.
- 16:12Speaker 9: My kids have learned that too. If they really want
- 16:14Speaker 9: something to say I can, I can't do it, and
- 16:15Speaker 9: I'm going to do it, and so I'm like, well,
- 16:18Speaker 9: I bet I can. And it really wasn't a plan,
- 16:21Speaker 9: and so I got off of all of it and
- 16:24Speaker 9: then it was still on there and then I said, okay,
- 16:25Speaker 9: I'm going to go to another level. I just deleted
- 16:27Speaker 9: the apps. And it wasn't a long term plan. And
- 16:31Speaker 9: it was really interesting to see as I went through
- 16:33Speaker 9: it because it knocks pushing me to do that, challenging
- 16:36Speaker 9: me allowed me to help other players, friends, coaches to say, man,
- 16:42Speaker 9: you should try this sometime, because once you remove something
- 16:45Speaker 9: from your life, you start to realize how many other
- 16:48Speaker 9: people are addicted to it or need it. And it
- 16:52Speaker 9: is interesting. Now. I did the five am workout a
- 16:55Speaker 9: camp Tampa, and I watched as soon as the workout's
- 16:58Speaker 9: over this morning, what does ever do They rush to
- 17:00Speaker 9: get their phones because they got to get on there
- 17:02Speaker 9: and to be free of that has been interesting because
- 17:04Speaker 9: you don't compare Kevin Elko, who actually here in Tampa
- 17:09Speaker 9: did my dad's funeral, and Kevin used to say to
- 17:11Speaker 9: us years ago at Alabama and say, comparisons are the
- 17:14Speaker 9: thief of joy. And what I realized and what I
- 17:17Speaker 9: talk to people about now, is like, if you're not
- 17:20Speaker 9: on anything, you don't see anything all day, you don't compare,
- 17:23Speaker 9: because now social media does what. You sit there all
- 17:26Speaker 9: day long and you start to compare your job, You
- 17:28Speaker 9: start to compare the city you live, and you start
- 17:30Speaker 9: to compare your vacation, your kids, your clothes, your car,
- 17:34Speaker 9: your significant other. And when you don't see that all day,
- 17:37Speaker 9: you're free of that comparison. So it's been an interesting study.
- 17:41Speaker 9: I've always you know, made our kids, our players, you know,
- 17:46Speaker 9: not have their phones in certain times, you know, like
- 17:48Speaker 9: team meetings and stuff, just to get them off of
- 17:51Speaker 9: them so they can learn to communicate. But it's just
- 17:54Speaker 9: been been interesting in a way of being more present.
- 17:59Speaker 9: Soppreciate knocks challenging on that and it's been great. You know.
- 18:03Speaker 9: The other question I get is the nine game schedule.
- 18:06Speaker 9: And like I said, I don't don't always agree with
- 18:09Speaker 9: the commissioner, Butody has hard decisions to make and we
- 18:11Speaker 9: understand that. My concern was about the nine games is
- 18:16Speaker 9: that you're going to lose non conference games teams will
- 18:20Speaker 9: eventually get out of the bigger non conference games because
- 18:23Speaker 9: the selection process is not fixed and tell that is
- 18:28Speaker 9: fixed to really truly reward strength of schedule. I was
- 18:36Speaker 9: against it because I think what you're going to have
- 18:38Speaker 9: is more conference losses and you don't prove anything. If
- 18:41Speaker 9: I'd keep playing for all in the same counts, we
- 18:44Speaker 9: keep playing each other, we don't really prove that we're
- 18:46Speaker 9: better than anyone else, and we're taking away out of
- 18:49Speaker 9: conference games. So I just think that it's going to
- 18:53Speaker 9: cause issues that I've already seen until we can get
- 18:56Speaker 9: into a world where people can actually look at teams
- 19:00Speaker 9: and say that team that is nine and three with
- 19:03Speaker 9: their schedule as a better team than that eleven and
- 19:05Speaker 9: one in at a different conference, which now I think
- 19:07Speaker 9: we aren't even close to doing that. I think it
- 19:11Speaker 9: causes a problem because we don't have enough non conference
- 19:14Speaker 9: in our sport. You know, I look at other sports
- 19:17Speaker 9: like baseball. Oklahoma just wins a national championship in baseball, well,
- 19:22Speaker 9: I think they're fourteen and sixteen and SEC play. Think
- 19:27Speaker 9: about that. In football, we nowhere near the playoffs. You know,
- 19:31Speaker 9: an eleventh in regular season and they win the national championship,
- 19:36Speaker 9: but they also have non conference games to show how
- 19:38Speaker 9: good they are. And so I just think that the
- 19:41Speaker 9: system wasn't ready for that change yet until they changed
- 19:46Speaker 9: the selection part. Last part, I just want to say
- 19:49Speaker 9: thank you to the media. You know, everybody talks. These
- 19:51Speaker 9: coaches get up here and I see the things you
- 19:54Speaker 9: know on TV watch the day they talk about their
- 19:56Speaker 9: summer and everything they did and all those things. And
- 19:59Speaker 9: you guys giving up your time here in your summer
- 20:01Speaker 9: to be here to cover us, and specifically to the
- 20:04Speaker 9: SEC media. It's part of what makes the SEC so
- 20:07Speaker 9: special because the intensity of the media and the coverage
- 20:10Speaker 9: and the passion everyone talks about the fans have, well,
- 20:13Speaker 9: the media has it too. So I appreciate you guys.
- 20:15Speaker 9: And with that open to questions.
- 20:18Speaker 4: So before we get to the Q and a portion
- 20:20Speaker 4: of Lane Kiffin's talking, just wanted to point out real
- 20:25Speaker 4: quick these SEC Media Day the main podium part of
- 20:31Speaker 4: the program. Each coach goes up there, they give an
- 20:34Speaker 4: opening statement, and then they usually have a few questions
- 20:40Speaker 4: asked of them. So most of these are close to
- 20:43Speaker 4: thirty minutes long, and the opening statements usually ten minutes
- 20:49Speaker 4: at most. Most of them are a little under that,
- 20:51Speaker 4: I would say. So Lane Kiffin comes out here. Y're
- 20:56Speaker 4: one as the LSU had coach. Obviously, things did not
- 21:03Speaker 4: end very cordially at Ole Miss. Especially hear what Pete
- 21:08Speaker 4: Golding had to say about that, if you want to
- 21:10Speaker 4: look that up, that was pretty interesting. So he comes
- 21:15Speaker 4: out here and just talks for as long as he
- 21:18Speaker 4: can so that he doesn't have to answer as many questions.
- 21:21Speaker 4: So now there's only eight and a half minutes left
- 21:22Speaker 4: of this that's actually him answering questions.
- 21:26Speaker 13: Kurt Bowls from the Houston Chronicle. Lane asked you a
- 21:29Speaker 13: few years ago what your in al budget was at
- 21:31Speaker 13: Old Miss, and you didn't say, but he just said, God,
- 21:35Speaker 13: I'd like to tell you. I was going to give
- 21:38Speaker 13: you a second chance today. Ask you what you're in
- 21:40Speaker 13: al budget at LSU is. And do you think we're
- 21:43Speaker 13: ever going to see the day where every team's payroll
- 21:46Speaker 13: and every player's salary is published.
- 21:51Speaker 9: Yeah, I don't know that we're going to see that day.
- 21:53Speaker 9: I think that again, this is a really hard thing
- 21:57Speaker 9: to get to. But if to do it right, just
- 22:01Speaker 9: like the scheduling would need to be fixed and would
- 22:05Speaker 9: be to have a real salary cap, and I know
- 22:08Speaker 9: what looked like it was going to be implemented, you know,
- 22:11Speaker 9: coming with the revenue sharing. That that's not I think
- 22:14Speaker 9: I've always been the coach I've here to just tell
- 22:16Speaker 9: you how it is that that's that's not being followed
- 22:18Speaker 9: because it's not a real cap. It's not a hard cap.
- 22:20Speaker 9: So that'd be like in the NFL, like, hey, we
- 22:22Speaker 9: have this cap, but it's not a hard cap and
- 22:24Speaker 9: you can go above it. So it's just really a
- 22:28Speaker 9: poor system. And like you said, things aren't public. You know,
- 22:35Speaker 9: the contracts are our public, so different than the NFL.
- 22:38Speaker 9: You know, where the NFL everybody has the contracts of
- 22:40Speaker 9: all the players and the other teams and everything, and
- 22:43Speaker 9: then you have long term contracts. I think one of
- 22:47Speaker 9: the things too is you you know I talk about
- 22:49Speaker 9: this system of I believe you build a system based
- 22:52Speaker 9: off of where you are. We talked about you build
- 22:55Speaker 9: your offensive system off your players. You build your system
- 22:58Speaker 9: of how many portal players is high school players? In
- 23:01Speaker 9: my opinion, it's not, hey, here's the cookie cutter formula.
- 23:03Speaker 9: Wherever you are, you go to LSU. You do it different,
- 23:07Speaker 9: and you did it will mess and so as you
- 23:10Speaker 9: build it though you know you can't say. In my opinion,
- 23:14Speaker 9: some people will say, okay, the traditional power should just
- 23:17Speaker 9: build through high school. Well you study the NFL and
- 23:21Speaker 9: they say, okay, well, yes, the best teams overtime, you
- 23:24Speaker 9: will sustain the longest by building through the draft and
- 23:27Speaker 9: supplement through free agency because that's where the long term
- 23:30Speaker 9: contracts are at, the lower prices in the free agency.
- 23:33Speaker 9: But our system doesn't have that. Now, if you could
- 23:36Speaker 9: fix it, where the high school kids, my opinion, they
- 23:40Speaker 9: should be lower, just like I was in the NFL
- 23:44Speaker 9: when you drafted JaMarcus Russell before they moved down the
- 23:47Speaker 9: rookie salary cap and then they made the slots for
- 23:50Speaker 9: the draft because the veterans the rookies were getting paid
- 23:53Speaker 9: more than ten year events. Well they got that fixed,
- 23:56Speaker 9: and that in our systems a little bit screwed up.
- 23:58Speaker 9: In my opinion. The kids haven't played at all coming
- 24:01Speaker 9: out of high school. Should be making less than that.
- 24:04Speaker 9: There should be a freshman like a rookie cap of
- 24:07Speaker 9: how they are, and then the max slots per position
- 24:10Speaker 9: that they make, and then they they're signed to multi
- 24:14Speaker 9: year contracts. So now you really do get into okay,
- 24:17Speaker 9: you build through high school because that guy can stay longer.
- 24:20Speaker 9: I think if you built through high school, now that's
- 24:22Speaker 9: all you did, and I think a couple of schools
- 24:24Speaker 9: have done that and it's not working out well because
- 24:26Speaker 9: you don't have they can leave after year one when
- 24:29Speaker 9: they don't play as much as they like, or they
- 24:31Speaker 9: want more money, or they do play and then they
- 24:33Speaker 9: want more money. So that's why we built so much
- 24:39Speaker 9: through the portal and will continue to build a lot
- 24:41Speaker 9: through the portal because of the way the system is.
- 24:44Speaker 9: Even though we can sign great elite, top on hundred
- 24:47Speaker 9: high school players like we just did, like what's committing
- 24:50Speaker 9: to us. But we're still going to build a lot
- 24:52Speaker 9: through the portal until they balance out the system and
- 24:55Speaker 9: they balance out how contracts work. Coach will go over
- 24:59Speaker 9: here to our left hand side third row.
- 25:03Speaker 14: Hey, Coach Michael Bradden from that SEC podcast. When you
- 25:07Speaker 14: were at Ole Miss, you led them to the third
- 25:09Speaker 14: most wins in the conference. Since twenty two. You had
- 25:12Speaker 14: ten players drafted or signed his free agents in the
- 25:15Speaker 14: twenty five draft, eight players drafted or signed his free
- 25:18Speaker 14: agents in the twenty six class. You had a top
- 25:21Speaker 14: four portal class each of the last three portal cycles.
- 25:24Speaker 14: You were there Jackson Dart first round pick. Yet in
- 25:28Speaker 14: a Vanity Fair article you said Oxford diversity hurt you
- 25:33Speaker 14: in talent acquisition. So what is it your belief that
- 25:37Speaker 14: if there was a little bit more diversity all those
- 25:39Speaker 14: numbers I cited could have been even better.
- 25:43Speaker 9: I had a feelm that was going somewhere. You were
- 25:45Speaker 9: doing like really positive stuff the whole way through. I'm like, man,
- 25:48Speaker 9: this guy's good. It sounds like you should work for
- 25:51Speaker 9: Jimmy Sexton. Man, you're like going a good direction there.
- 25:56Speaker 9: You know, I made a challenging decision and change, and
- 26:01Speaker 9: I think as I look back to that, I thought
- 26:04Speaker 9: I could find a way for everybody to understand. And
- 26:07Speaker 9: now as I look back later on, that was never
- 26:09Speaker 9: going to happen. And I made a decision that I
- 26:13Speaker 9: changed jobs. And as I get older and I go
- 26:15Speaker 9: through things and losing both parents, I was actually talking
- 26:20Speaker 9: to Ross Dellinger and I kind of said something that
- 26:22Speaker 9: might sound kind of funny to you, but you know,
- 26:25Speaker 9: I watched the Hulk Hogan special and I realized that
- 26:29Speaker 9: I was like, we're all going to die, and so
- 26:33Speaker 9: some of the things that we put importance on we
- 26:36Speaker 9: worry about and what this person says in that like
- 26:39Speaker 9: really aren't going to matter. And when I lost my dad,
- 26:41Speaker 9: I started thinking that, and I really started thinking when
- 26:43Speaker 9: I grew up there were two people that I thought
- 26:45Speaker 9: just wouldn't die, my Dad and Hulk Hogan. And then
- 26:50Speaker 9: I watched that special and really like, Hulk Hogan died too.
- 26:53Speaker 9: There's no way Hulk Hogan was ever going to not
- 26:55Speaker 9: wrestle and die, and he did. And so it just
- 26:58Speaker 9: made me reflect really on, like I can't be so
- 27:02Speaker 9: concerned about little things and what people say in this
- 27:04Speaker 9: and you've got to make decisions. You got to go
- 27:06Speaker 9: with them and you do things, and you make really
- 27:09Speaker 9: good decisions and you make core decisions. And that was
- 27:12Speaker 9: a poor usage of a term that I believe, just
- 27:15Speaker 9: like many coaches that have been therefore, was factual, but
- 27:20Speaker 9: over the course of a longer interview, was bad timing
- 27:22Speaker 9: and bad usage of the words. So it is what
- 27:26Speaker 9: it is. I apologize when I said it, and moving on.
- 27:32Speaker 9: Got time for two more. We'll start here in the center.
- 27:33Speaker 7: Aisle head coach Darryl Dapprich locked on Albard after a
- 27:39Speaker 7: two year hiatus.
- 27:40Speaker 11: Alvard and lsu play again this year.
- 27:43Speaker 8: Talk about what that game means to you.
- 27:45Speaker 9: There seems to be a.
- 27:46Speaker 12: Nice little rivalry with Albard and some of the things
- 27:49Speaker 12: in the past.
- 27:49Speaker 8: And how is Malik blocked and progressing for you?
- 27:53Speaker 9: Yeah, Malik's doing great, really working hard, made a lot
- 27:57Speaker 9: of plays in springball. I think Auburn's a great program.
- 28:03Speaker 9: I think they got new energy with the coaching staff
- 28:05Speaker 9: and a really good offensive system coming in and keeping
- 28:08Speaker 9: Dj Dirkin on defense. I think that you know they're
- 28:12Speaker 9: going to be a really improved program. And that's a
- 28:15Speaker 9: really hard place to play always and really gives people
- 28:18Speaker 9: a lot of problems. Kind of a magical stadium that
- 28:21Speaker 9: magical things happening. So that's one of one of many
- 28:26Speaker 9: extremely competitive games we have, including really for the first
- 28:30Speaker 9: time that you have five road conference games.
- 28:33Speaker 15: Hey, coach this way the other way, yep. I'm Eddie
- 28:38Speaker 15: Pell's from AP. I think at some point after your
- 28:42Speaker 15: social media cleanse, Congress introduced a bill that has a
- 28:46Speaker 15: thing in it called the Lane Kiffen Rule. It's about
- 28:50Speaker 15: coach movement. I think with that and with a lot
- 28:55Speaker 15: of the things that have been said about your move
- 28:58Speaker 15: I'm just wondering, d do you think you get a
- 29:01Speaker 15: bad rap about you know that they look at you
- 29:06Speaker 15: sometimes and say, that's the problem with everything. Do you
- 29:09Speaker 15: think you get a bad rap?
- 29:12Speaker 9: Well, the good thing is I don't know if I do,
- 29:15Speaker 9: because I don't read anything. So it really is a
- 29:17Speaker 9: different way of not seeing. Like you just said that,
- 29:19Speaker 9: and I didn't know that until you said it, And
- 29:24Speaker 9: you know, I guess in that. I hope that some
- 29:27Speaker 9: way for future coaches they're not put in that situation.
- 29:30Speaker 9: You know, the NFL, you're never put in that situation
- 29:32Speaker 9: because of the calendar and because of the rules of
- 29:34Speaker 9: movement within seasons. So I do hope for future people
- 29:37Speaker 9: that's that's fixed so that you're not in that same
- 29:40Speaker 9: predicament for players for coaches, which really was a player
- 29:45Speaker 9: issue too, and then we fix that with moving the
- 29:47Speaker 9: portal date back. That was more of an issue earlier
- 29:51Speaker 9: in the postseason too, as you saw players having to
- 29:53Speaker 9: leave teams to get into the portal during the season.
- 29:56Speaker 9: So hopefully some way they fix it for coaches too.
- 29:59Speaker 4: All Right, That was Kiffin at SEC Media Days this morning,
- 30:03Speaker 4: and he had a lot to say, not a lot
- 30:07Speaker 4: of answers to questions, but he definitely had a lot
- 30:10Speaker 4: to say he's under I would say a lot of
- 30:13Speaker 4: pressure going into the twenty twenty six season, Expectations are
- 30:17Speaker 4: very high for the Tigers, even though this is his
- 30:20Speaker 4: first year moving from ole Miss to LSU, SEC to SEC.
- 30:27Speaker 4: There's gonna be very high expectations, not only from Tiger
- 30:32Speaker 4: fans but from the national media. You saw I think
- 30:35Speaker 4: it was Jordan Rodgers on ESPN said that it's national
- 30:38Speaker 4: championship or bust for LSU. So it'll be very interesting
- 30:43Speaker 4: to see how that team responds to those expectations. In
- 30:46Speaker 4: year one of the Lane Kiffin era. We're gonna take
- 30:49Speaker 4: a break and come back with more sports talk on
- 30:52Speaker 4: the Zone.

- 36:10Speaker 4: who don't know. But when I'm outside usually it has something.
- 36:15Speaker 20: To do with sports.
- 36:17Speaker 4: And what is the pretty much the only sport going
- 36:19Speaker 4: on right now baseball? Baseball is the outdoor show right now.
- 36:26Speaker 4: And ironically, the baseball team I'm going to talk about
- 36:29Speaker 4: doesn't even play outside because the Houston Astros have a
- 36:34Speaker 4: roof on dyke In Park and they never open it,
- 36:37Speaker 4: which we've talked about before, but that's not the point
- 36:39Speaker 4: of this conversation. The Astros once again are giving their
- 36:45Speaker 4: fans hope after getting swept at home by the Orioles
- 36:49Speaker 4: over the weekend and going into Monday, the Astros then
- 36:55Speaker 4: followed that up with a three game sweep of the
- 36:57Speaker 4: Marlins at home. The Marlin another team right there on
- 37:02Speaker 4: the edge of the playoff conversation, So this team cannot
- 37:06Speaker 4: decide what it wants to be going into the All
- 37:10Speaker 4: Star break. On July fourteenth, the Astros were I think
- 37:16Speaker 4: it was, yeah, July fourteenth, the Astros were forty seven
- 37:19Speaker 4: and fifty one, which you know, on paper, that sounds
- 37:22Speaker 4: like a that sounds like a bad record, and it's
- 37:24Speaker 4: not a good record, but the AO West has been
- 37:28Speaker 4: notoriously mediocre this season, so that had them only three
- 37:32Speaker 4: games back of the division lead, which was the Texas Rangers,
- 37:37Speaker 4: and now after getting swept and then sweeping, the Astros
- 37:43Speaker 4: are now only two games back of the Rangers. Houston
- 37:50Speaker 4: sits at fifty and fifty four. The Rangers are fifty
- 37:55Speaker 4: one and fifty one, so a five hundred team currently
- 37:59Speaker 4: leads the AL West and then in second place, half
- 38:01Speaker 4: a game behind the Rangers are the Seattle Mariners at
- 38:04Speaker 4: fifty one to fifty two. The Athletics have pretty much
- 38:08Speaker 4: completely fallen out of the race. Up until the end
- 38:12Speaker 4: of June, pretty much they had been hanging around and
- 38:16Speaker 4: it had been one of the top teams in the division
- 38:18Speaker 4: for a lot of the first half of the season.
- 38:20Speaker 4: But since about June twenty fourth, they have taken a
- 38:27Speaker 4: pretty sharp downturn. So it looks like a three team
- 38:30Speaker 4: race now between the Rangers, Mariners, and Astros. So you know,
- 38:37Speaker 4: the trade deadline this year is going to be very
- 38:40Speaker 4: interesting because you know, on you when you think about
- 38:44Speaker 4: how many teams are going to be trying to buy,
- 38:46Speaker 4: you'd be like, WHOA, there's going to be some big moves,
- 38:47Speaker 4: a lot of people trying to trade for some big names.
- 38:50Speaker 4: But the other side of that is, because there's so
- 38:52Speaker 4: many teams still in contention, I don't know how many
- 38:54Speaker 4: big names are even going to be available. A guy
- 38:57Speaker 4: like Trek Scobel has been talked about as one of
- 39:00Speaker 4: the I mean, that would be the biggest name on
- 39:03Speaker 4: the market if he is available. But the Tigers still
- 39:05Speaker 4: aren't really out of it. Yeah, they're three games below
- 39:08Speaker 4: five hundred, but again, the American League overall this season
- 39:12Speaker 4: has been pretty mediocre, so they're not out of it either.
- 39:17Speaker 4: And if Trek Scoople isn't available at the deadline, I
- 39:20Speaker 4: really don't know what big name is even going to
- 39:24Speaker 4: go other than I think probably Luis Ariaz is definitely
- 39:28Speaker 4: going to be He's going to be on the market
- 39:29Speaker 4: for sure free agent at the end of the year
- 39:33Speaker 4: on the Giants, a team that has not had any
- 39:36Speaker 4: success this season, so there will be at least one
- 39:39Speaker 4: or two big names. I think a guy like Hunter
- 39:41Speaker 4: Goodman on the Rockies is likely to be traded and
- 39:43Speaker 4: that would make waves as he is hit. I think
- 39:46Speaker 4: thirty one homers this year from the catchup position, so
- 39:49Speaker 4: that's huge. It'll be very interesting to see how this
- 39:52Speaker 4: trade deadline goes, and we'll talk about that more next
- 39:54Speaker 4: week leading up to the trade deadline, which is August third,
- 40:00Speaker 4: a Monday, so I'm sure Rusty Berson will have a
- 40:03Speaker 4: lot to say about that. The best thing about this
- 40:08Speaker 4: Astros team this year, without a doubt, has been jord
- 40:13Speaker 4: On Alvarez's Triple Crown chase. So as of right now,
- 40:18Speaker 4: here's where Jordon stands in the Triple Crown statistics, which
- 40:22Speaker 4: are batting average, home runs, and runs batted in, And
- 40:27Speaker 4: this is just American League triple Crown right now, not
- 40:32Speaker 4: MLB batting average. Gordon Alvarez three to twenty eight batting
- 40:38Speaker 4: average Yondi Diez is in second at three to eight,
- 40:41Speaker 4: and then those are the only two players in the
- 40:44Speaker 4: American League with the batting average over three hundred. Ernie
- 40:46Speaker 4: Clement is in third place two ninety seven, so twenty
- 40:50Speaker 4: point lead, which batting average can can change pretty rapidly.
- 40:54Speaker 4: You go, you know, on a three game slump, and
- 40:55Speaker 4: you could lose that lead, but right now it's a
- 40:58Speaker 4: pretty sizable one. The The MLB leader in batting average
- 41:01Speaker 4: is Otto Lopez at three thirty two, so just barely
- 41:05Speaker 4: ahead of Jordan right now. That could change tonight. For
- 41:08Speaker 4: all we know home run leaders. Jordan Alvarez actually leads
- 41:14Speaker 4: all of Major League baseball right now with thirty four
- 41:16Speaker 4: home runs. Kyle Schwarbers in second place with thirty three,
- 41:20Speaker 4: but that's in the National League. Second place in the
- 41:22Speaker 4: American League has been Rice with thirty and then Junior
- 41:25Speaker 4: Camonero with twenty nine RBIs. Jordan is the major league
- 41:32Speaker 4: leader in that statistic. As well with seventy seven. Second
- 41:36Speaker 4: place is a tie between CJ. Abrams and Jordan Walker
- 41:40Speaker 4: with seventy six, but again those are both National League
- 41:43Speaker 4: players in the AL. Second place is Ben Rice again
- 41:47Speaker 4: with the Yankees, and then third is Pete Alonzo with
- 41:50Speaker 4: the Orioles with sixty six, so a six RBI lead
- 41:55Speaker 4: in the AL, a one one RBI lead in the
- 42:00Speaker 4: all of Major League Baseball. So right now, the only
- 42:04Speaker 4: Triple Crown statistic he isn't leading in in MLB is
- 42:09Speaker 4: batting average, and he's only four points behind Otto Lopez.
- 42:12Speaker 4: He leads in all three if you're just talking American
- 42:15Speaker 4: League triple crown. The last time that there was a
- 42:22Speaker 4: Triple Crown winner in just one of the leagues and
- 42:25Speaker 4: not the full Major League Baseball was twenty twelve Miguel
- 42:29Speaker 4: Cabrera with the Tigers, and he won the MVP that year.
- 42:33Speaker 4: The last time there was a MLB wide triple Crown
- 42:35Speaker 4: winner was in nineteen fifty six, seventy years ago, Mickey
- 42:40Speaker 4: Mantle with the Yankees. Jordan is the first player in
- 42:45Speaker 4: any league to league his to lead his league in
- 42:49Speaker 4: all three Triple Crown categories this late in the season,
- 42:52Speaker 4: since Aaron Judge September twenty eighth, twenty twenty two. Judge
- 42:56Speaker 4: finished that season first in homers, tied for first and RBI,
- 43:00Speaker 4: but Luisa Rayahs grabbed the al batting title that year
- 43:03Speaker 4: by just five points. So Aaron Judge looking to do
- 43:07Speaker 4: something that hasn't been done in a single league in
- 43:11Speaker 4: fourteen years and hasn't been done in all of Major
- 43:13Speaker 4: League Baseball for seventy years. Can he get it done?
- 43:19Speaker 4: It will be very very interesting. He's been on a really,
- 43:23Speaker 4: really solid streak as of late, and I know that's
- 43:26Speaker 4: crazy to say because he's been great all year, but
- 43:28Speaker 4: he's been even better I think, just in July. So
- 43:34Speaker 4: you know, with big stats like this, when a player's
- 43:37Speaker 4: on pace for you know, a crazy number of home runs,
- 43:40Speaker 4: they usually fall off August September something like that. So
- 43:43Speaker 4: it'll be very fun to watch and see if Jordan
- 43:47Speaker 4: can keep this up. And I really hope that the
- 43:50Speaker 4: Astros add some help around him to protect him in
- 43:53Speaker 4: that lineup because right now he's really the biggest contributor
- 43:56Speaker 4: by a lot. Jeremy Payne has been great as of late,
- 44:00Speaker 4: but the Astros outfield offensively has been the worst in
- 44:04Speaker 4: Baseball with a six sixty three ops. So they really
- 44:07Speaker 4: need to add a bat, preferably a left handed bat
- 44:11Speaker 4: in the outfield if they are serious about competing this season.
- 44:15Speaker 4: So a guy like Jack McCarthy that I talked about,
- 44:17Speaker 4: I think that was Tuesday. That's somebody that I think
- 44:19Speaker 4: they really need to be taking a hard look at
- 44:21Speaker 4: and trying to get your do on some protection in
- 44:23Speaker 4: this lineup. We're going to take a break. The Rangers

- 44:46Speaker 18: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 44:50Speaker 18: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 44:52Speaker 18: did all the clean up, and I had my new

- 45:40Speaker 7: The Texas Rangers lost a tight game to the Chicago
- 45:43Speaker 7: White Sox last night, final score four to two. The
- 45:46Speaker 7: White Sox got on the board first courtesy of an
- 45:49Speaker 7: RBI single from Chase Mydrath in the top of the
- 45:52Speaker 7: second inning. In the bottom of the frame, Cam cauley
- 45:55Speaker 7: hit his first career home run to tie the game

- 47:50Speaker 4: the only thing that I talk about. Aggie Baseball. Texas
- 47:54Speaker 4: A and M had eight players taken in this year's
- 47:56Speaker 4: MLB draft. Seven of those eight signed, and I just
- 48:03Speaker 4: want to give you an update on the status of
- 48:07Speaker 4: each of those players. Round one, pick eleven was Chris Icopian,
- 48:12Speaker 4: played mostly second base and DH for US this year.
- 48:15Speaker 4: Drafted by the Washington Nationals, he signed about four hundred
- 48:19Speaker 4: thousand under slot value five point seven million dollars for Chrisicopian.
- 48:24Speaker 4: Caden Surrell round two, pick sixty two to the Chicago
- 48:28Speaker 4: Cubs has signed overslot by about one hundred and sixty
- 48:31Speaker 4: thousand one point sixty five million dollars for Caden Serell.
- 48:36Speaker 4: Round thirty, pick eighty one was Gavin Grohovac to the
- 48:38Speaker 4: Los Angeles Angels, and he was also overslot by over
- 48:43Speaker 4: two hundred thousand dollars one million, two hundred and forty
- 48:46Speaker 4: seven thousand, five hundred dollars for Gavin Grohovac. Round four,
- 48:50Speaker 4: pick one twenty was Shane Sedeo, left handed pitcher to
- 48:54Speaker 4: the New York Mets, and he was just barely under
- 48:58Speaker 4: slot by about twenty five hundred bucks six hundred and
- 49:01Speaker 4: forty two, six hundred dollars for Shane Sedeo. Bear Harrison
- 49:04Speaker 4: got slot value four hundred and thirty seven two hundred dollars.
- 49:07Speaker 4: He was pick one sixty in the fifth round to
- 49:10Speaker 4: the Yankees. Weston Moss in the eleventh round also to
- 49:14Speaker 4: the Washington Nationals, joining Chris Hycopian one hundred and seventy
- 49:18Speaker 4: two thousand, five hundred dollars for Weston Moss after round ten.
- 49:23Speaker 4: Teams don't have assigned slot value to their picks for
- 49:28Speaker 4: any picks after round ten, so Moss being taken in
- 49:31Speaker 4: the eleventh round. Basically, if they sign players after the
- 49:36Speaker 4: eleventh round for under one hundred and fifty thousand dollars,
- 49:39Speaker 4: it doesn't count towards their draft bonus pool, which is
- 49:44Speaker 4: there's a lot of rules associated with that. I don't
- 49:46Speaker 4: think y'all want me to explain that right now, to
- 49:48Speaker 4: be honest. So, but Moss was over that one hundred
- 49:51Speaker 4: and fifty k mark, so the Nationals were pretty serious
- 49:56Speaker 4: about signing him. In the eighteenth round with the five,
- 50:00Speaker 4: one hundred and thirty sixth overall pick, Jake Door went
- 50:02Speaker 4: to the Arizona Diamondbacks and he signed for a twenty
- 50:05Speaker 4: thousand dollars signing bonus. We'll be very interested to see
- 50:09Speaker 4: how each of these players professional careers go. In the
- 50:12Speaker 4: nineteenth round was Clayton Freshcorn to the Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 50:17Speaker 4: He announced not long after the draft that he will
- 50:19Speaker 4: be returning to Texas A and M, which is a
- 50:23Speaker 4: very big win for Michael Early and Barry Enright to
- 50:27Speaker 4: retain him. I think he's going to be the anchor
- 50:30Speaker 4: of the staff in twenty twenty seven, likely the Friday starter.
- 50:34Speaker 4: If not Friday then I think almost definitely Saturday. It'll
- 50:38Speaker 4: be between him and Aiden Simms for who is the
- 50:42Speaker 4: ace of the staff. And I really think Johnny nawanya
- 50:46Speaker 4: Is is going to be right in that mix as well.
- 50:48Speaker 4: But the starting rotation and the pitching staff as a
- 50:51Speaker 4: whole will greatly benefit from fresh Corn coming back, very
- 50:54Speaker 4: excited about that. Also excited for Chris Acopian and Gavin
- 50:58Speaker 4: Grohovac getting to play for their home town teams. Kacopianto
- 51:02Speaker 4: the Nationals grew up in that area, Gavin Grohovac is
- 51:05Speaker 4: from I think I think Orange, California is just twenty
- 51:09Speaker 4: ish miles for Anaheim. So both of those players, if
- 51:13Speaker 4: they make it up to the big leagues, will get
- 51:15Speaker 4: to play in front of a hometown crowd, and that's
- 51:17Speaker 4: always really fun and happy for them. Since all of
- 51:23Speaker 4: this MLB draft stuff is on our mind right now,
- 51:26Speaker 4: I wanted to take a look back at who was
- 51:29Speaker 4: taken from Texas A and M in last year's MLB
- 51:32Speaker 4: Draft and how they're doing with their professional careers so far.
- 51:36Speaker 4: The man taken in the first round, I'm sure everybody
- 51:41Speaker 4: still remembers very fondly, Jason Lovilette went Round one, pick
- 51:46Speaker 4: twenty seven to the Cleveland Guardians a year ago. He
- 51:50Speaker 4: is currently in High A, which is three steps from
- 51:55Speaker 4: the major leagues. It goes Triple A is at the top,
- 51:58Speaker 4: Double A, High A, Single A, and then rookie ball,
- 52:03Speaker 4: So Jase kind of in the middle. As far as
- 52:07Speaker 4: the minor league career, ladder goes and he's having some
- 52:11Speaker 4: decent success. Seventy two games this season, he's hit fifteen homers,
- 52:15Speaker 4: so on pace for right around thirty homers over a
- 52:17Speaker 4: full season, which is the power numbers that you would
- 52:19Speaker 4: expect from him. His main issue has been strikeouts over
- 52:24Speaker 4: one hundred strikeouts in those seventy two games, which is
- 52:27Speaker 4: not what you want to see. But first full, first
- 52:30Speaker 4: full professional season for Jase, and he's been one of
- 52:33Speaker 4: the better hitters on the Lake County Captain, So happy
- 52:36Speaker 4: for him. I think he will continue to progress and
- 52:39Speaker 4: the powers there just got to make more consistent contact
- 52:43Speaker 4: and I think he'll do just fine. Justin Lampkin was
- 52:47Speaker 4: the next AGI off the board last year. He went
- 52:49Speaker 4: to the Royals and he has looked very good in
- 52:53Speaker 4: the games that he's pitched in this year. He made
- 52:56Speaker 4: eight starts, about forty innings, three strikeouts, and a two
- 53:01Speaker 4: point zero four ERA through across two different levels High
- 53:05Speaker 4: A and then actually got called up to Double A.
- 53:10Speaker 3: Late in the month of May.
- 53:12Speaker 4: He then was placed on the seven day IL after
- 53:14Speaker 4: just two starts in Double A, and he was moved
- 53:17Speaker 4: to the sixty day IL not long after that, still
- 53:22Speaker 4: on the injured list, and I think that's mostly precautionary.
- 53:25Speaker 4: I was reading some articles about Lampkin and some people
- 53:30Speaker 4: think that he will be in a position to challenge
- 53:32Speaker 4: for a major league rotation spot next year. But he's
- 53:35Speaker 4: had great success in the Royals organization so far. Thirty
- 53:39Speaker 4: five percent strikeout rate for Lampkin. I think he's going
- 53:42Speaker 4: to be in a great position to have a shot
- 53:45Speaker 4: to make his big league debut next year. Hope that
- 53:48Speaker 4: he recovers from this injury quickly and gets back out
- 53:52Speaker 4: on the field. I think there's a long career in
- 53:56Speaker 4: front of Lampkin if he can stay healthy. Cayden Kent
- 54:00Speaker 4: was taken in the third round by the Yankees. He's
- 54:02Speaker 4: also in high a same level as Jase, and he's
- 54:05Speaker 4: leading the Hudson Valley Renegades in batting average with a
- 54:09Speaker 4: three to two mark. There six homers for Cayden in
- 54:12Speaker 4: seventy six games, and of course he's also on the
- 54:16Speaker 4: injured list. He was placed on the seven day IL
- 54:19Speaker 4: early in July. Still on the injured list right now,
- 54:23Speaker 4: but leading his team in batting average. That's pretty impressive
- 54:26Speaker 4: for his first professional season. Miles Patton was the next
- 54:28Speaker 4: agg off the board back in twenty twenty five in
- 54:31Speaker 4: the seventh round to the Red Sox. He was splitting
- 54:35Speaker 4: his time between the bullpen and the rotation. So far
- 54:38Speaker 4: this season about twenty two innings, four to seven to six,
- 54:40Speaker 4: Era suffered a season ending injury unfortunately, and the same
- 54:46Speaker 4: thing happened to Cayden Wilson, who was taken in the
- 54:48Speaker 4: ninth round by the Marlins. He was announced as out
- 54:51Speaker 4: for the season early, I think it was back in April.
- 54:56Speaker 4: He was in rookie ball. There were three aggies taken
- 54:59Speaker 4: in the ninth round. Wilson was the first, follow by
- 55:01Speaker 4: Wyatt Heinsler, who played a few games in the national
- 55:03Speaker 4: system back last September, and then this March announced his
- 55:08Speaker 4: retirement from the game of baseball, which was very surprising.
- 55:12Speaker 4: Heinsler was on the call a lot as a color
- 55:15Speaker 4: commentator for Aggie Baseball this year alongside Andrew Monico. So
- 55:19Speaker 4: interested to see what his path will be, but it
- 55:22Speaker 4: will not be professional baseball. And the final aggie taken
- 55:25Speaker 4: in the ninth round was Ryan Prager to the Guardians.
- 55:28Speaker 2: He has looked pretty good this year.
- 55:31Speaker 4: Split time between rookie ball and single A started the
- 55:34Speaker 4: year in the bullpen, has been moved through the rotation.
- 55:36Speaker 4: He's got a two nine to five ERA, thirty six innings,
- 55:39Speaker 4: fifty four strikeouts. He was named Carolina League Pitcher of
- 55:43Speaker 4: the Week back in early June after he struck out
- 55:45Speaker 4: fourteen batters in just five innings. So Prager has found
- 55:49Speaker 4: his stride. After a little bit of a rough senior
- 55:51Speaker 4: season with Texas A and M, He's looked pretty good
- 55:54Speaker 4: in professional baseball and the final Aggie taken was Luke
- 55:57Speaker 4: Jackson in the eleventh round to the He's only pitched
- 56:02Speaker 4: twelve innings this year single A and rookie ball, a
- 56:06Speaker 4: couple of rehab appearances in rookie ball, but he hasn't
- 56:08Speaker 4: pitched since July eighth. He's not on the injured list.
- 56:10Speaker 4: Not exactly sure what's going on there, but a lot
- 56:12Speaker 4: of these Aggies have had some pretty solid success in
