- 0:00Today is the Jewish feast day or celebration of Purim and we are
- 0:09covering Chapter 9 and 10 from the Book of Esther, which
- 0:14establishes the date of Purim. Now this is it's March 3rd, 2026
- 0:21and I will note something interesting as we get into the
- 0:26text. But first let's pray.
- 0:29Dear Lord, please open our eyes and ears to what you have to
- 0:34say. Be with us as we read through
- 0:37this chapter and let us learn something from this and hear
- 0:43your words as you intended. We ask this in Jesus name.
- 0:49So it starts out on the 13th day of the 12th month.
- 0:54Now that has to be clarified already because that's probably
- 0:57like February or March time frame according to the calendar
- 1:02that they kept. So it's not there's so many
- 1:04different calendars. And in order to understand this
- 1:07is the, I guess the month of Adar, which God had established
- 1:13as the first month, but this is now the considered the 12th
- 1:16month in in this area. So on the 13th day of the 12th
- 1:23month, the month of Adar, which is February and March for the
- 1:29Gregorian calendar, the edict commanded by the king was to be
- 1:34carried out on the days the enemy of the Jews had hoped to
- 1:39overpower them. But now the tables were turned
- 1:43and the Jews got the upper hand over those who hated them.
- 1:48Now there's a lot of significance right here because
- 1:52you can confirm this. We know that the the leader of
- 1:59Iran was eliminated on February 28th, 2026.
- 2:05Khamenei. And if you go to the Dead Sea
- 2:10Scroll calendar, DSS calendar.org, look at the date
- 2:16that corresponds to 228 on the Dead Sea Scroll calendars.
- 2:23As I've mentioned before, this is the calendar that was kept by
- 2:27the Essenes, which was a Jewish sect who believed in the Messiah
- 2:31and kept a calendar that was found in the Dead Sea Scrolls.
- 2:35And so if you look at that, it shows us that 228 in the
- 2:41Gregorian calendar is actually the month of Adar.
- 2:46And it's the 14th date is it's the date of Purim, which we will
- 2:53now we're talking about the 13th that we'll get into the the date
- 2:58soon. But just I want to clarify.
- 3:01And in this story of Purim, it was a turn of events.
- 3:06Remember, Haman hated Mordecai and all the Jews and he wanted
- 3:11to exterminate them. Khamenei hated all the Jews and
- 3:17he would say, you know, death to Israel and death to United
- 3:20States. I mean, there are there are
- 3:22multiple people that he didn't like.
- 3:25And ironically, you know, is this God's Providence coming
- 3:29through? These are things that we don't
- 3:31pay attention to. But God is sovereign.
- 3:34God is in control. And this is evidence that we
- 3:38need to trust God and we need to know, we need to remember that
- 3:42what it says in the Bible will come true, will prevail.
- 3:46And God gives us so much information that if we just pay
- 3:50attention to what is said and know that God doesn't change, we
- 3:54can see these things often in hindsight.
- 3:57But because we can see these things in hindsight, doesn't
- 4:00that make you trust God more when you see these?
- 4:03These are not coincidences. We some may think they are
- 4:06coincidences, and that's because their faith is not as strong.
- 4:11But faith comes by hearing the words of the gospel and the
- 4:17words of God's word. You know, God's word, your faith
- 4:20grows when you start seeing this repetition.
- 4:23And God always gives two or three witnesses.
- 4:25And I'm going to go through that a little bit later in this
- 4:27chapter too. So it's just when, when you're
- 4:31in the word more, you will see these things and you will
- 4:34realize this is not a coincidence.
- 4:37And this is, you know, interesting.
- 4:39Even though the Jews today celebrate from today on March
- 4:453rd, the Dead Sea Scroll calendar, that was an ancient
- 4:49calendar that was kept back in the day before calendars were
- 4:54changed. Like all these calendars got
- 4:56changed. And it was probably the enemy's
- 4:57goal to change the calendar so people didn't know what day was
- 5:00what. But because we, because Ken
- 5:04Johnson put together this Dead Sea Scroll calendar and we can,
- 5:09we can cross reference the old historical dates with the date,
- 5:14the Gregorian calendar. So I recommend that you kind of
- 5:17look at that because when significant events happen, you
- 5:21can see the certain feast days that God said to observe.
- 5:25And those are all documented on the Dead Sea Scroll calendar.
- 5:30So again, it's called DSS calendar.org and it's worthwhile
- 5:35to visit it and just scroll around and look up different and
- 5:38see if you, you know, there may be some other things that you
- 5:40pick up on when you look at it. So I'll get back to the text,
- 5:44but it's, it's very interesting that the, the true date from the
- 5:50Dead Sea Scrolls is the day that Khamenei was eliminated.
- 5:55And it reflects the story of so much in the fact that someone
- 6:02who hated the Jews and was coming after the Jews was
- 6:04actually eliminated. He said he was going to destroy
- 6:07them, but he was destroyed. And that's, you know, it comes
- 6:12into other verses that I'm going to get into a little bit later.
- 6:16I'm going to go to verse 2. The Jews assembled in their
- 6:19cities, in the provinces of King Xerxes, to attack those
- 6:23determined to destroy them. No one could stand against them,
- 6:29because the people of all the other nationalities were afraid
- 6:34of them. And all the nobles of the
- 6:36provinces, the satraps, the governors, and the King's
- 6:39administrators helped the Jews because fear of Mordecai had
- 6:45seized them. Just like Haman's advisors were
- 6:49saying, hey, this is the Jews that you're coming against, and
- 6:52it's probably not going to go well with you because they had
- 6:54heard the history apparently of what God had done for the Jews
- 6:58in the past. So verse 4, Mordecai was
- 7:03prominent in this, in the palace.
- 7:05His reputation spread throughout the province and he became more
- 7:10and more powerful. This is very similar, like, oh
- 7:15gosh, what is it? History rhymes, apparently.
- 7:18Finally I remembered what that verse was.
- 7:21Mark Twain is the one who coined that phrase, apparently.
- 7:25But history doesn't repeat, but it rhymes.
- 7:28Similar things happen and we do see that.
- 7:31So think about this Joseph, the same thing happened to him.
- 7:35This is the the son of Isaac, I mean the son of Jacob.
- 7:40And he, you know, his brothers turned against him and he was
- 7:46taken into slavery and then became the number 2 to Pharaoh
- 7:51and actually was put into that position to save many people to
- 7:56survive the famine. So God put somebody into
- 8:00position when it looked like the odds were against them, he
- 8:04turned around and made them into someone great.
- 8:08They were. Joseph was tested many times
- 8:11before that happened. And probably Mordecai was tested
- 8:16too. I mean, they went through that
- 8:17period of fasting for three days and praying and seeking the
- 8:20Lord. I mean, I'm assuming because
- 8:22that's what fasting would you would do, is that you would pray
- 8:25to the Lord, even though God is not mentioned in this book.
- 8:30But so because the reputation of what, of God being with the
- 8:38Jewish people, it did 'cause some fear, because who's going
- 8:42to fight against God? Who's going to fight against the
- 8:44Creator? Who's going to succeed in that?
- 8:47Now granted, sometimes there were times where God turned away
- 8:51from the Jews when they were involved with idolatry and they
- 8:56had forgotten God and he did that so that they would
- 9:01eventually repent and turn back to him.
- 9:03He didn't do it for punishment, but He did it to to put them
- 9:08under pressure so that they would turn to Him.
- 9:12Because often times when we, when things are going well, we
- 9:17may not seek God. But when we get really desperate
- 9:21and when things go bad and we have nothing else, often that's
- 9:26when we turn to God. And God is so merciful and so
- 9:29loving that He will allow those things to happen in our lives so
- 9:34that we turn to Him because He is a loving Father and He does
- 9:38want us to turn to Him. So verse 5, the Jews struck down
- 9:44all their enemies with the sword, killing and destroying
- 9:47them. And they did what they pleased
- 9:50to those who hated them in the citadel of Susa.
- 9:55Now remember, this is in southwestern Iran.
- 9:57So isn't that ironic? It's not.
- 10:00I mean, it's, isn't that a coincidence?
- 10:02Well, it's probably not. In the citadel of Susa, the Jews
- 10:06killed and destroyed 500 men. They also killed Parshan, Datha,
- 10:13Delphon, Apatha, Poratha, Adadia, Aridatha, Paramatha,
- 10:22Erisiii, Aridiii and the the ten sons.
- 10:29All those names which I probably mispronounced are the 10 sons of
- 10:32Haman, son of Hamidatha, the the enemy of the Jews.
- 10:39But they did not lay their hands on the plunder.
- 10:42So this is interesting that the the Jews got rid of the his
- 10:47descendants, Haman's descendants, the ten sons.
- 10:52But they didn't, they didn't steal from them.
- 10:54They did not lay their hands on the plunder.
- 10:56They just eliminated those who wanted to destroy them.
- 11:01Doesn't it sound familiar? Verse 11, The number of those
- 11:06killed in the citadel of Susa was reported to the king That
- 11:10same day. The king said to Queen Esther,
- 11:13the Jews have killed and destroyed 500 men and the ten
- 11:18sons of Haman in the citadel of Susa.
- 11:23What have they done in the What have they done in the rest of
- 11:28the King's provinces? So that was just in the city of
- 11:31Susa. Now what is your petition?
- 11:34It will be given to you. What is your request?
- 11:37It will also be granted if it pleases the king, as Esther
- 11:42answered. Give the Jews and Susa
- 11:44permission to carry out this day's edict tomorrow.
- 11:49Also let Haman's ten sons be impaled on Poles.
- 11:54So the king commanded that this be done.
- 11:57An edict would was issued in Susa and they impaled the ten
- 12:01sons of Haman. The Jews in Susa came together
- 12:08on the 14th day of the month of of Adar.
- 12:12OK, so remember that the the ones in Susa came together on
- 12:15the 14th day in the month of Adar.
- 12:18That's equates to this. February 2nd or February 28th
- 12:242026 is the same as ADAR 14. So came together on the 14th day
- 12:35of the month of Adar and they put to put to death in Sousa 300
- 12:40men for but they did not lay their hands on the plunder.
- 12:45So this is the second time that it says they did not lay their
- 12:47hands on the plunder. They had an object, they had an
- 12:52I guess an they had a goal, a mission that they were on, and
- 12:56it was to just get rid of the people that hated them.
- 12:59Meanwhile, the remainder of the Jews who were in the King's
- 13:02provinces also assembled to protect themselves and get
- 13:06relief from their enemies. They killed 75,000 of them but
- 13:11did not lay their hands on the plunder.
- 13:14So this is the third time it says they did not lay their
- 13:17hands on the plunder. This happened on the 13th day of
- 13:22the month of Adar and on the 14th they rested and made it a
- 13:27day of feasting and joy. So they were celebrating on the
- 13:3114th day where they rested. It sounds like those are the
- 13:35ones out in the the rural area is where they did.
- 13:41So yeah, the 14th day is the rural.
- 13:45OK. The Jews in Susa, however, had
- 13:48assembled on the 13th and 14th. And then on the 15th day, they
- 13:53rested and made it a day of feasting and joy.
- 13:57So it's like there's two different days that are
- 14:00celebrated and the 14th and the 15th day.
- 14:04It's the ones in the city where they rested on the 15th day.
- 14:09The ones in the country or the rural side are in the villages.
- 14:13They rested on the 14th day because Esther had asked for one
- 14:17more day for the Jews in the city.
- 14:20So this that is why rural Jews, those living in villages,
- 14:25observe the 14th of the month of Adar as a day of joy and
- 14:31feasting, a day for giving presents to each other.
- 14:35Mordecai recorded these events, and he sent letters to all the
- 14:38Jews throughout the provinces of King Xerxes, near and far, to
- 14:42have them celebrate annually on the 14th and 15th days of the
- 14:48month of Adar. As the time when the Jews got
- 14:52relief from their enemies, and as the month when their sorrow
- 14:57was turned into joy and their mourning into a day of
- 15:01celebration, he wrote. Then he wrote them to observe
- 15:06the days as days of feasting and joy and giving presents of food
- 15:11to one another and gifts to the poor.
- 15:14So the Jews agreed to continue the celebration.
- 15:17They had begun doing what Mordecai had written to them,
- 15:20for Haman son of Hamiditha the Agite, the enemy of all Jews,
- 15:25had plotted against the Jews to destroy them and had cast the
- 15:30purr that is the lot for their ruin and destruction.
- 15:35But when the plot came to the King's attention, he issued
- 15:38written orders that the evil scheme Haman had devised against
- 15:42the Jews should come back onto his own head.
- 15:47This is about that reaping and sowing, right?
- 15:50That we we reap what we sow That's probably the reason why
- 15:55God tells us to not curse our enemies, because when we do
- 16:00that, we may reap what we sow. And he says bless them and do
- 16:06not curse them. That's what Jesus said.
- 16:08But I will talk a little bit more about that after I finish
- 16:11these chapters. So Haman had devised against the
- 16:14Jews should come back onto his own head, that he and his sons
- 16:20should be impaled on poles. Therefore these days were called
- 16:26Purim from the word PUR per. Because of everything written in
- 16:32this letter, and because of what they had seen and what had
- 16:36happened to them, the Jews took it on themselves to establish
- 16:40the custom that they and their descendants and all who join
- 16:45them should sell, should without fail, without fail.
- 16:50So this maintains a longer duration.
- 16:53Observe these two days every year in the way prescribed and
- 16:58at the time appointed. These days should be remembered
- 17:03and observed in every generation by every family and in every
- 17:09province and in every city. And these days of Purim should
- 17:14never fail to be celebrated by the Jews, nor should the memory
- 17:20of these days die out among their descendants.
- 17:23So this is something that is always to be remembered.
- 17:27So Queen Esther, daughter of Abbehail, along with Mordecai
- 17:32the Jew, wrote with full authority to confirm this second
- 17:36letter regarding Purim. And Mordecai sent the letters to
- 17:41all the Jews in the 127 provinces of Xerxes Kingdom,
- 17:45words of goodwill and assurance to establish these days of Purim
- 17:51at their designated times. As Mordecai the Jew and Queen
- 17:55Esther had decreed for them, and they had established for
- 17:59themselves and their descendants in regard to their times of
- 18:02fasting and lamentation, so also notice that they prayed for this
- 18:08and they had fasting and lamentation prior to this
- 18:13reversal of for this reversal of events.
- 18:18OK, Esther's decree confirmed these regulations about Purim
- 18:23and it was written down in the records.
- 18:26Now chapter 10 very short. King Xerxes imposed tribute
- 18:30throughout the empire to its distant shores and all his acts
- 18:35of power and might, together with a full account of the
- 18:38greatness of Mordecai, whom the king had promoted.
- 18:42Are they not written in the Book of Annals of the Kings of Media
- 18:46and Persia which is modern day Iran?
- 18:49Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Xerxes, preeminent
- 18:54among the Jews, and held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews
- 19:00because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for
- 19:05the welfare of all the Jews. This is like God rewarding A
- 19:11selfless act. We know that God doesn't change.
- 19:15We know that God values life in the same way, and when people do
- 19:21something honorable and speak up for the welfare of others, God
- 19:27reward rewards this. We can see this here.
- 19:30It's when we are selfless, not selfish.
- 19:34And Jesus did the most selfless act of giving his life on the
- 19:40cross so that all who believe in him and love him back will be in
- 19:46in the Kingdom of God and join in the inheritance that God has
- 19:51planned for those who do that. It doesn't say that life will be
- 19:55easy. It says that we must not we
- 19:58must. It's our choice whether we
- 20:00become selfless or we stay selfish and look at what we want
- 20:05to accomplish. Or are we, are we going to be
- 20:08more loving towards other people like being self selfless, like
- 20:13thinking of others more than thinking about ourselves?
- 20:17And that's, that's a test certainly that we all get put
- 20:20through at some time. So there's been a lot of talk
- 20:25about blessings and curses and and even on major podcast and I
- 20:33want to read a few things because God, God does establish
- 20:37this and this has been questioned lately.
- 20:40And the first one is from Genesis chapter 27, verse 29.
- 20:47It says may nations serve you and peoples bow down to you.
- 20:53Be Lord over your brothers and may the sons of your mother bow
- 20:58down to you. May those who curse you be
- 21:02cursed and those who bless you be blessed.
- 21:05Now this is this is an interesting thing where this
- 21:08came from. So this was given through the
- 21:15there was this this prophet. But oh, I think this was wait a
- 21:20second. No, that's not this one.
- 21:22That's the next one. So this is the blessing that
- 21:25Isaac gave to Jacob. So let's see, I could, I could
- 21:35read that whole section or not, I don't know.
- 21:42So Isaac was deceived by Jacob. First of all, Esau had given up
- 21:50his birthright. And then with the help of his
- 21:54mother, Jacob went in when his father Isaac was dying and
- 22:00giving out blessings. And he went in as the first
- 22:07born. And there was a little bit of
- 22:10deception there. But I don't really, you know,
- 22:14like I don't know why God honored that, but he did honor
- 22:18that. And but it also says in
- 22:23Scripture that God hated Esau because maybe there was just
- 22:29some wickedness in Esau. I'm not really sure and but he
- 22:34certainly didn't, he didn't love God back like he had the
- 22:37opportunity. He's a twin brother of Jacob and
- 22:41he just chose something else. He chose worldly things and not
- 22:46the things of God. So Jacob was replaced.
- 22:48But you know, the the whole deception thing, I'm not really.
- 22:51That's doesn't seem right, but it's what happened is
- 22:55documented. But nevertheless, Isaac gave
- 23:00this blessing to Jacob and said, May nations serve you, and
- 23:06peoples bow down to you. Be Lord over your brothers, and
- 23:11may the sons of your mother bow down to you.
- 23:14May those who curse you be cursed, and those who bless you
- 23:19be blessed. There is power in the words and
- 23:23the way God's anointing. We can see that first God said
- 23:28this to Abraham and then it was through Isaac that the blessings
- 23:36would occur and it just traveled down.
- 23:38And then you can see that it went from Isaac to Jacob.
- 23:41So there's this transition of blessings.
- 23:43It was Abraham, then to Isaac, then to Jacob.
- 23:48Then in Numbers chapter 24 verse 9, it says like a lion, they
- 23:56Crouch and lie down like a lioness who dares to rouse them.
- 24:02May those who bless you be blessed and those who curse you
- 24:06be cursed. Now, this is really interesting
- 24:10because the current, gosh, I have to look it up to see what
- 24:17it is, but the current military, I don't know what it's called.
- 24:24Roaring Lion. That's the military operation
- 24:27that Israel is undergoing right now with Iran, and it's called
- 24:34roaring lion. I'm sure they know and they're
- 24:36referencing this scripture. But like a lion, they Crouch and
- 24:41lie down like a lioness who dares to rouse them.
- 24:44May those who bless you be blessed and those who curse you
- 24:47be cursed. Now this was spoken through the
- 24:51prophet of Balaam. Now Balaam wasn't exactly a good
- 24:58guy. He did divination, but he also
- 25:02did hear from the Lord. So he had this prophetic gift or
- 25:07this communication with God, but he wasn't always doing the right
- 25:11things. And he was actually the one that
- 25:13the, the king Bailek wanted, you know, knew his powers, not his
- 25:19powers, but his ability to communicate or to see in the
- 25:22spiritual realm or to communicate with God.
- 25:24And so he, he was looking for his own selfish means.
- 25:28The king was he was fearful of the Jews coming out of out of
- 25:32the wilderness and and so he didn't want them to take power
- 25:37and so he said put curse on them, you know like do something
- 25:40against them. But Balaam, he tried 7 times and
- 25:45it failed every single time. Instead of curses coming out of
- 25:48his mouth, blessings came out of his mouth towards the people,
- 25:52the Jewish people, the Israelites.
- 25:54So I can read this in context from Numbers 24 verse one.
- 25:59When Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, he did
- 26:05not resort to divination as at other times, but turned his face
- 26:11toward the wilderness. When Balaam looked out and saw
- 26:15Israel encamped tribe by tribe, the Spirit of God came on him,
- 26:23Holy Spirit, and he spoke his message.
- 26:26The prophecy of Balaam, son of Beor.
- 26:29The prophecy of the one who sees clearly.
- 26:31The prophecy of the one who hears the words of God, who sees
- 26:34a vision from the Almighty, who falls prostate, and whose eyes
- 26:39are opened. How beautiful are your tents,
- 26:43Jacob? Your dwelling places Israel like
- 26:47valleys. They spread out like gardens
- 26:50beside a river, like aloes planted by the Lord, like Cedars
- 26:55beside the waters. Water will flow from their
- 26:59buckets. Their seed will have abundant
- 27:03water. Their king will be greater than
- 27:07Agag. Their Kingdom will be exalted.
- 27:13I think Agag was the was from the descendants of Esau, and
- 27:20that's also who Haman was from. Also, you'll have to double
- 27:25check me on that because sometimes I get names mixed up.
- 27:27But it's interesting that there's this, this comparison is
- 27:32kind of relevant to the things that are happening right now.
- 27:36Numbers 24, verse 8. God brought them out of Egypt.
- 27:40They have the strength of a wild ox.
- 27:43They devour hostile nations and break their bones in pieces with
- 27:49their arrows. They Pierce them like a lion.
- 27:54They Crouch down and lie down like a lioness Who who dares to
- 27:58rouse them? May those who bless you be
- 28:01blessed, and those who curse you be cursed.
- 28:05It would be wise for us to pay attention what's written in the
- 28:07Bible and the blessings and curses.
- 28:10And we can see, as Mark Twain says, says, the rhythm of things
- 28:14where this happens over and over again.
- 28:16And we also know from the Bible that God does not change.
- 28:19So it's not wise to come against Israel.
- 28:23The Bible also says that Israel is not perfect.
- 28:27And God rebukes them sometimes, and he takes their enemies
- 28:31sometimes to correct them, to bring them to repentance.
- 28:35So it never says in the Bible that the Israelites are a
- 28:39perfect God honoring people, but it does say that God chose them
- 28:45to bless others through them. So this is God's design.
- 28:52We're not going to change it. The Bible is very clear of the
- 28:58way that things happen, and it's foolish for us to think that we
- 29:03can do something other than that, you know, like to go
- 29:07against the words of God. So let's see.
- 29:11The other thing that I wanted to talk about was in Genesis
- 29:16chapter 12, verse 3. This was what God had said, I
- 29:22believe, to Abraham. Yes, this was the call of
- 29:26Abraham. So again, as we, as I said
- 29:29before, first it went to Abraham, then it went to Isaac,
- 29:34and then it went to Jacob. So it was like a passing down
- 29:38from the Father to the Son. So this is what God said to
- 29:42Abraham, I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses
- 29:47you, I will curse and all peoples, all peoples.
- 29:51So pay attention to that on earth will be blessed through
- 29:55you. And let's see, then there's I
- 30:03think there might be a couple things.
- 30:05So then Jesus, here's what Jesus says.
- 30:10Jesus never tells us to curse other people like that is God.
- 30:14That is sovereignty. So God says I will bless those
- 30:19who bless you and curse those who curse you.
- 30:23That is God talking. But Jesus says for us like we
- 30:27are not in a position in that position, we don't have that
- 30:30authority. So Jesus tells us, bless those
- 30:34who curse you for those who mistreat you.
- 30:40And and so Jesus has a message that is really telling us, you
- 30:45know, where we are in authority. I guess Now Paul says the same
- 30:52thing in Romans chapter 12, verse 14.
- 30:56Bless those who persecute you. Bless and do not curse.
- 31:01We don't want to curse other people because that could place
- 31:05a curse on us. What we sow we will reap.
- 31:09That's another reason why God says before you sacrifice
- 31:12anything, if you have a problem with a brother or sister, go and
- 31:15make amends before you offer the sacrifice.
- 31:20We, and then the Lord's Prayer that Jesus taught us says
- 31:23forgive others as you have forgiven us, that so we can
- 31:28forgive others as you have forgiven us.
- 31:31So if we're not forgiving others, that's another hindrance
- 31:36to blessings. We need to have forgiveness of
- 31:41others and we need to remember how God has forgiven us of our
- 31:45trespasses, of the things that we've done that are wrong, that
- 31:48God did it for us. And we need to extend the same
- 31:52to others. When we withhold forgiveness for
- 31:56someone, we're actually reaping what we sow.
- 31:59So if we're withholding forgiveness, then is our
- 32:04forgiveness withholding? I mean, it says that in the, in
- 32:08the prayer that Jesus taught, like we are forgiven as we
- 32:12forgive other people. So if we want to be forgiven by
- 32:15God, we have to forgive others. And the way I look at it, which
- 32:20helps me, is not to focus on the person, but there is a spiritual
- 32:28influence behind the person. And some people will deny this,
- 32:32but the scripture seems very clear to me that until we
- 32:37receive the Holy Spirit, we are operating under a worldly
- 32:41spirit. We are in slavery essentially to
- 32:46the evil one. We may not recognize it, we may
- 32:49not want to admit it, but we are until we finally say, God, I
- 32:55want your spirit. I want to surrender to you.
- 32:57And then the Holy Spirit can come when we are repentant,
- 33:01which means we turn away from sin.
- 33:03We can't keep hanging on to sin because that's kind of you don't
- 33:06receive the Holy Spirit when you're still holding on to sin,
- 33:09when you're still holding on to your slavery.
- 33:12You've got to let that go and then and you let that go and you
- 33:16surrender it all to God and you ask, you know, ask Jesus.
- 33:20I mean, it doesn't say clearly that we have to ask, but Jesus
- 33:23did say that we can't even inherit the Kingdom of God
- 33:27unless we are born again, unless we receive the Holy Spirit.
- 33:30And the Holy Spirit comes from Jesus.
- 33:33So we need to release the, you know, the unforgiveness.
- 33:37That's that's a sin against God. And we also have to repent, turn
- 33:42away, be willing to the Holy Spirit will give us power to
- 33:46overcome the sinful things, but we have to be filled with the
- 33:50Spirit, the Holy Spirit to eliminate the other spiritual
- 33:55impacts. So like I said, for me, it helps
- 33:58when I see someone who is operating in a worldly way, when
- 34:04they come against me, I don't take it out on them.
- 34:08They just haven't been awakened yet.
- 34:10They just haven't received the Holy Spirit yet.
- 34:13But God wants them to receive the Holy Spirit.
- 34:16So that's really helpful. It's, you know, to have that
- 34:19empathy because I look at it like I was the same way.
- 34:22I was operating like that. And then God, thankfully I got
- 34:28to know God and I've been forgiven and I want to serve
- 34:32God. And so I can see a difference.
- 34:36It's only in hindsight, but when you're in the middle of it, you
- 34:38don't want to admit that, you know, you're being influenced by
- 34:43the evil 1. And we can't help it.
- 34:46We're all born that way. We have that tendency and, and
- 34:51we just like when we get to the age that we can understand this,
- 34:55that we can make the decision, then we have to, you know, make
- 35:00our desires known to God so that we can, we can be in his Kingdom
- 35:07and, and have a good relationship with God, be able
- 35:10to communicate with God. Sin separates us from God.
- 35:14And if we want to have that good communication with God, it says
- 35:17God hears the prayers of the righteous.
- 35:19Now, how do you become righteous except by the Holy Spirit?
- 35:23It certainly isn't natural. So we all need the Holy Spirit
- 35:27in so many ways. The Holy Spirit gives us power,
- 35:30gives us courage, gives us peace, joy, happy, not
- 35:36happiness, peace, joy, self-control, perseverance,
- 35:42faithfulness, gentleness, all of those.
- 35:46You can find that in Galatians chapter 5 and it's around verse
- 35:5022 where that starts where you can see the things the Holy
- 35:53Spirit gives us. The the character of a person
- 35:57becomes changed when they have the Holy Spirit, when the Holy
- 36:00Spirit is operating in their lives and you will see a
- 36:03difference in people. So anyway, this, I guess I, I
- 36:07could read a few of the questions and answers from the
- 36:11study Bible and then we will wrap it up on this, you know,
- 36:14day of Purim according to the Jewish calendar right now.
- 36:18But for Chapter 9 and 10, I'll go through the questions and
- 36:21answers and then wrap this up. Why did they fear Mordecai?
- 36:25Mordecai's sudden advancement was recognized as supernatural.
- 36:31To observe such a person was to wait.
- 36:35To oppose such a person was to oppose the gods and assure one's
- 36:41doom. The rulers of the provinces were
- 36:43in awe of a power they could not identify but could clearly
- 36:48perceive the sovereign power of God.
- 36:52Did the Jews initiate this attack on their enemies?
- 36:56The edict allowed the Jews to protect themselves against those
- 37:00who might attack them and their women and children.
- 37:04These may be these may have been pre emptive strikes, but this
- 37:10was not random violence, for the Jews were not killing women and
- 37:15children or looting. Remember 3 times we were saying
- 37:19they did not take the plunder. Why didn't the Jews take any
- 37:23plunder? This was a holy war, a war
- 37:28commanded by the Lord in judgment on great evil.
- 37:33That's something really interesting to think about
- 37:35today. It was distinguished from normal
- 37:39warfare by the ban on taking plunder, which demonstrates that
- 37:44the aggression was not for financial gain, but only to
- 37:48carry out God's sentence. And remember, this also happened
- 37:53after three days of fasting. Why were Hammonds, our Hayman's
- 37:58sons, impaled on poles, since they were already dead?
- 38:03First, it made an example of them as a deterrent to any who
- 38:07might think to attack the Jews again.
- 38:09Second, given the hanging on a pole was a sign of the Lorde
- 38:14curse on a person, it would have it would have especially
- 38:18communicated to the Jews of Susa that the Lorde ancient curse
- 38:23against those who cursed them was still in force.
- 38:28So just like we read that curse Jesus said when he said I did
- 38:34not come to take away any of the the laws or the what the
- 38:39prophets had to say. He only came to fulfill what the
- 38:44prophets had talked about. So every word of God remains
- 38:49until we are in perfection with the Lord, because until heaven
- 38:55and earth disappear, everything remains.
- 38:58So remember that too. Why did the Jews need to kill
- 39:0275,000 people? That the Jews would kill so many
- 39:06aggressors indicates that the hostility against them had been
- 39:09increasing since the edict against them had been issued.
- 39:12It is possible that this number is an exaggeration used to
- 39:16emphasize the emphasize the Jews victory.
- 39:19However, given the vast extent of the Persian Empire, 75,000 is
- 39:24not an inconceivable number, especially considering that 800
- 39:29were killed in Susa alone. The failure to mention Jewish
- 39:33casualties is almost certainly intended to communicate the Jews
- 39:37overwhelming success rather than an absence of losses.
- 39:43How was Haman's casting of lots different from that of the Jews?
- 39:47Haman used the pure or die dice to determine the fate of the
- 39:51Jews. Jews and other ancient people
- 39:54also cast lots as an impartial way to decide what course of
- 39:59action to take. But while Haman credited chance
- 40:03or fate with the outcome, the Jews trusted God to make his
- 40:09will known through the lots. Even while Haman trusted the
- 40:13poor, God determined the result for.
- 40:17God had determined to save His chosen people by His almighty
- 40:22power. What's the meaning of Purim?
- 40:26Purim is a combination of the Persian word for the lot for lot
- 40:31or poor, and the Hebrew plural ending I am.
- 40:35The day was chosen by lot originally as the day an attack
- 40:41was to be launched against the Jews, but in a dramatic turn of
- 40:46events it became a Jewish holiday that is observed to this
- 40:50day. An explanation of the name was
- 40:53necessary because the word would not have been recognized by non
- 40:58Persian Jews. What was the Book of Annals of
- 41:03the Kings of Media and Persia? Archaeologists have not yet
- 41:07recovered this historical record.
- 41:09There is evidence in some ancient records, however, of a
- 41:13man, a minor official of Xerxes administration, who had the name
- 41:18Mardukaya, which is similar to the name Mordecai.
- 41:23How much power did Mordecai have?
- 41:26A second in rank to the king? Plenty.
- 41:29Mordecai not only could frequently act on his own, but
- 41:32also could enjoy the confidence and trust of the king, who
- 41:36relied more on him than any of the nobles and advisors.
- 41:40Mordecai also had virtually unlimited opportunity to shape
- 41:44the policies and administration of the empire.
- 41:47His high position, similar to that of Joseph and Daniel,
- 41:52guaranteed the welfare of the Jews while they lived in a
- 41:56foreign land. Once again, God had provided for
- 42:00and protected His people. I had forgotten about Daniel,
- 42:03but Daniel was another one, you know, who rose to power because
- 42:06of the of what God did in his life.
- 42:09And just like God says two or three witnesses established the
- 42:13truth, He does that in Scripture too.
- 42:15So we have Mordecai, we have Joseph and Daniel.
- 42:19That's three examples of what God does when he operates in
- 42:24someone's life and obedience and what obedience can do in
- 42:29someone's life. So I hope this was something
- 42:33that you learned from today and at least it keeps us in the word
