- 0:50fucking fly. Everything is on the table. Welcome to One Piece wait,
- 0:57oh my god, welcome, just spoil will be Welcome to the show everyone.
- 1:22I'm Natasha, sorry about that. Thank you very much to the One
- 1:26Piece crew for commissioning this episode. Appreciate y'all very much. We got some
- 1:30folks in the chat today. Hi guys. These episodes, y'all were so
- 1:34much fun. I am really loving these later arcs of this show. And
- 1:44I don't want to, you know, make any pronouncements about how the show
- 1:49just keeps getting better and better, because that's just an unrealistic expectation. It's
- 1:53probably got some low points coming, and that's just part of a thing that
- 1:57runs for fucking ever. But as of right now, I keep being pleasantly
- 2:02surprised because I think that we have sort of seen as wild as shit's going
- 2:10to get, and then it just does whatever it does, and I'm left
- 2:15going, right, right, this show's crazy. I keep forgetting that part.
- 2:23So I, first of all again have to mention the amazing titles.
- 2:30These are just straight out of a nineteen twenties like newspaper where they you know,
- 2:38they have like the penny dreadful that's sold by itself, but there's also
- 2:43like the columns in sort of trashy newspapers that would run really over the top
- 2:50stories with you know, men twirling their mustachios as they tied ladies to the
- 2:55train tracks. And that is what these titles are giving, and I am
- 3:00fucking into it. So the bunch of Animals episode, I was a little
- 3:07bit sad, you guys, because these animals. I was hoping We're all
- 3:13going to kind of be like, oh, we got made into zombies and
- 3:16we don't like that. So yeah, we're on your side, and that
- 3:22is super not what's going on. All of these animals seem to be somehow
- 3:25under the total control of I guess doctor Howkback, but I don't know that
- 3:35for sure. I'm realizing that like Pirona, it's like her garden of animals,
- 3:44so I guess she's controlling them, but it's just a we don't really
- 3:50like. There's no confirmation of that. I'll just say it's it's said in
- 3:55the title, which I guess you could take as confirmation. But she isn't
- 4:01in these episodes that much at all. She's in the very beginning of the
- 4:08first of the three. I think that's the only appearance we get from her.
- 4:13I could be off on that, but if that's all I remember of
- 4:15her being, I feel like that kind of speaks for itself. So oh
- 4:21god. There are so many people in the chat. Hi guys. What
- 4:27Brian says right now is a low point in a lot of people's eyes.
- 4:30So it's awesome. You're enjoint what Brian. Brian send those people to me?
- 4:44Who is calling this the low point? I would say the low point
- 4:47a low point for me. The low point is still fucking what's his face
- 4:53from? Unfortunately, the arc where we meet Sanji. No offense, Sanji.
- 5:00I can't believe people are considering this a low point. What in the
- 5:05hell is the matter with people? Oh? Oh? You know, there
- 5:12are times, there are times where everybody agrees, and those are beautiful times.
- 5:17For example, when Owen and I watched there was some sort of like
- 5:21episode where in Avatar the Last Airbender, the whole thing takes place in a
- 5:29canyon and it's like two groups against one another and it is the most tedious,
- 5:33boring shit, And we went and like found out about it afterwards,
- 5:38and it turned out to be universally seen as the number one worst episode of
- 5:42the whole show. And we felt so validated, you know, just like,
- 5:45okay, good, we all agree this was not up to the usual
- 5:47standard. And then there's moments like this and I don't know what metric people
- 5:56are using. I you know what I have to say. And I was
- 6:01talking about this with Owen the other day. People have a tendency to mistake
- 6:08arcs or scenes where something major is revealed or there's like a huge turning point
- 6:18and say those are the quote best episodes. And the truth is, you
- 6:26just like that twist or you just like that change in somebody's story. That
- 6:31doesn't mean the episode that it took place in is a good episode. Those
- 6:38aren't the same thing. So I have this a lot with like different TV
- 6:43shows that I have finished, and I'll be in fandoms where we're talking about
- 6:46it, and I realize that everybody's like, Oh, I love when such
- 6:48and such, and I'm like, I like that beat of the plot,
- 6:54but that episode where that happened is wall to wall bummer, and I can't
- 7:00understand how anybody says it's their like favorite episode of the show. So anyway,
- 7:06I feel like sometimes people get so focused on like plot at the expense
- 7:14of an actually well constructed story, which is not to say those are mutually
- 7:19exclusive, but a lot of times with something that runs for a really long
- 7:24time like this show, that does tend to happen because the plots are so
- 7:29stretched out and the arcs are so long. I don't know I'm getting off
- 7:33topic here, but I just find this fascinating because you guys, I don't
- 7:38know if I've gone on this tangent on this show, but I've gone on
- 7:42this tangent for sure, I think in the major Arrant series and maybe in
- 7:45the Dandelion Dynasty series about my feelings regarding these Star Wars like Latest Trilogy and
- 7:55how Last Jedi is by far the best of all the Star Wars movies and
- 8:01the fact that anybody says it's the worst is laughable garbage. And the arguments
- 8:07that I get in with people about this often cite things that make no sense.
- 8:13So sometimes I just have to accept people are going to be wrong about
- 8:18things. I was gonna say, let's accept that we have different opinions.
- 8:22No, I can't do it. I'm just gonna say I will accept that
- 8:26sometimes people are going to be wrong. They just start. So Florence says,
- 8:31I said, I love this arc, but lots of people don't like
- 8:33it. I forgot you said that, you did you kind of warn me?
- 8:37You warn me, I forgot. I'm sorry. Krata says, it's
- 8:39true people think it meanders a little too much and the Sanji Nami Absalom moment
- 8:43is a low of the series for something that is true, But we're going
- 8:50to talk about that. And then Brian says, I myself don't really care
- 8:54much for thriller Bark. It has some great moments, but definitely near the
- 8:56bottom for me. You know. Honestly, though, if this is kind
- 9:00of near the bottom for people, I feel like that's a great science since
- 9:03I'm having such a good time. So we'll see. But okay, so
- 9:09I wanted to talk right out of the gate about Absalom and what is going
- 9:13on with this maniac. So you know, I stand by absolutely every fucking
- 9:24thing that I said about the episode where Nami is assaulted in the shower and
- 9:28it's like super sexualized and just male gazy as fucking fairy gross. I will
- 9:33not budge on that. However, I really have to say I appreciate the
- 9:43unexpected turning of the corner here where all of a sudden we have a creature
- 9:52that is low key assaulting Absalom. Also, so he is gross and perv
- 10:00but he is getting what he dished out, and I did not see that
- 10:05coming and I am here for it. I really appreciate too that the show
- 10:11managed to sidestep something that I have seen in this show before. But also
- 10:20it's just a trope everywhere, the trope of oh, she's fat and ugly,
- 10:26and I think the idea of like having sex with her or being a
- 10:31partner of hers is literally revolting they managed to make this inoffensive by having it
- 10:39be one a non human creature, a wart hog, and two an undead
- 10:48creature a corpse of a war hog. So I was really concerned when you
- 10:56first like see her, there's a camera angle, and I was starting to
- 11:00go, oh, man, are we gonna have like, oh, here's
- 11:03the fat girl, and like it certainly tap dances on those tropes, but
- 11:07it's not that, And for that I remain thankful, and it's just worth
- 11:15it to see Absalom gets subjected to the same grossness that Nami is subjected to.
- 11:20And I like the fact that it's also a creature who can physically overpower
- 11:26him, like she is out of control and I am. I just really
- 11:37her fucking whole thing is so ridiculous. She's like the design of her is
- 11:45like have you guys heard of the movie Winnie the Pooh, Blood and Honey.
- 11:54It's a really low budget slasher movie that because Winnie the Pooh is in
- 12:01the public domain, somebody came up with the bright idea of like, what
- 12:05if we did a dark, gritty Winnie the Pooh. And by gritty,
- 12:11I mean like the reviews of this movie are so bad because it's nothing but
- 12:18like a torture fest basically, and just really grim and unfun and doesn't it
- 12:24takes itself extremely seriously. So I don't recommend the movie based on the reviews
- 12:28that I have read, but there is some There are some liberties taken with
- 12:37the design of Piglet and Winnie the Pooh in that movie to make them grotesque
- 12:43and scary. And I can't remember the name of the wart hug help me
- 12:50out, guys, but she is like, if they did that to Miss
- 12:56Piggy, if they had like a really grim, dark slasher version of the
- 13:03Muppets, that this is what I feel like Miss Piggy would be like.
- 13:09So I don't know how everyone else feels. I personally have been a massive
- 13:15fan of Miss Piggy my whole life, unsurprisingly. I mean, it's really
- 13:20funny because it took a while for my personality to really develop in my humor
- 13:24to come out, but there are really signs along the way, and the
- 13:28fact that I loved Miss Piggy in the Muppets like the most, and I
- 13:33loved Lucy from Peanuts the most really says a lot. I know that Miss
- 13:41Piggy can be seen as a bit of like a punchline, but honestly,
- 13:46she's a fucking icon and I love her forever. So it's a beautiful combo
- 13:52for me of a come up and for Absalom because I really hate this character
- 13:58and also getting to see somebody who really resembles an icon for me be the
- 14:07one to like wreak this out, and I'm into it so so I there's
- 14:16so much. She's in a wedding dress, you guys, like the whole
- 14:18thing. Why is this? This is? Why is she so in love
- 14:24with him? Who knows? It doesn't matter, that's not even the point.
- 14:28It's not even that she's in love with them, because as we see,
- 14:31she doesn't hear a word He says like there's it's not about him,
- 14:37But that still works for me. I love too as he is like sending
- 14:45all of these zombie generals out to fight. There is a guy named um
- 14:54Killer John or something like. He's the pirate that had like the the swords
- 15:01sticking out of his chest. I'm pretty sure like the first moment we see
- 15:03him, when he turns, the swords are sticking out of him. He's
- 15:07sort of like lounging. I don't know if it was like in a chair
- 15:09or what. But he is drinking wine. It was a real like chef's
- 15:16kiss first impression. But he's out here and he's walking past Absalom, who
- 15:20is like very annoyed because this man is not giving the kind of energy that
- 15:28he wants him to give. He isn't as enthusiastic or as I would get,
- 15:33as like proactive as Absalom was hoping. So he's releasing the zombie generals
- 15:41and kind of like yeah, go get him, and trying to hype them
- 15:45up. And the zombie generals are all kind of reacting like they just clocked
- 15:52in for the day. They're not excited, and Absalom seems genuine me a
- 16:00little bit bummed out by that, which I love very much. I have
- 16:06always been a big fan of the trope undead who are sick of your shit,
- 16:11and these guys they're willing to do the job. You know. They
- 16:15go and they confront the you know, the straw hat fighters. There's a
- 16:21whole thing, and they get hype when it's time to fight, but they're
- 16:26not rushing forward, they're not bloodthirsty. They're just kind of like ah ah,
- 16:32man, I did not want to get out of bed this morning,
- 16:36I guess, you know. And honestly, there's something really delightful about the
- 16:42fact that Absalom has technical control over their actions, but he doesn't have any
- 16:48influence over their emotions, you know, or their reactions to things. So
- 16:57yeah, here Lowla. That's her name, Lola, What a good name.
- 17:04Ah. I love her so much, you guys, she is awful.
- 17:11The design of her She's got a big heart shaped nose, which you
- 17:14just love that. And whenever she makes like a kissy face with her lips,
- 17:18her lips make almost a perfect heart, and just you know, her
- 17:25whole look like. I have no concept of why she has to be dressed
- 17:32like a bride, why she's obsessed with getting married. I don't know if
- 17:36this is ever explained. If it is awesome, if it's not, I
- 17:42am fine with it. I will I'm gonna write me some fucking Lola fan
- 17:48fiction. So yeah, we have her like accosting him for quite a while,
- 17:53very very predictably, he winds up being like, no, no,
- 17:57no, I'm going to marry Nami, shows Lola the picture of Nami,
- 18:03who of course freaks out and decides that she is going to go after Nami,
- 18:07because if she kills Nami, then she gets to Mary Absalom. And
- 18:11as much as I don't want her going after my girl, I do enjoy
- 18:21that Lola's as much of an enemy to Absalom as she is to Nami.
- 18:26So it's sort of a fucking you know, even though she doesn't see herself
- 18:30that way in the moment, if there's both standing there, Namie and Absalom,
- 18:34it's kind of a fifty to fifty on who she's going to assault.
- 18:37The assault may manifest in a different way, but nevertheless that's what it's going
- 18:42to be. So then we go to the remaining four, initially straw hats.
- 18:53We've got remaining at this point Zoro, Lufy, Frankie, and Robin,
- 19:00and they're walking down the hallway as this fucking porker is telling them not
- 19:11Loofy calls them woolpig in the dub, Oh, you know what, I
- 19:15wanted to mention this, by the way, you guys, so you know
- 19:18how sometimes I'll be like the sub says this. The dub says that Compare
- 19:22Contrast Funimation doesn't seem to have an option to watch the Japanese subs with the
- 19:29American dub SO or English dub so, I get closed captioning, which is
- 19:37the exact same script as the dub which it's fine, but I do sort
- 19:45of miss being able to see what is different about the way the translation works
- 19:51versus the So if you all were sort of liking those moments, apologies,
- 19:55But because it's Funimation likes to ruin my fun. I won't be able to
- 20:00do that for a little bit until I guess Netflix decides that they are going
- 20:06to get the rest of these episodes. So this uh pig keeps like telling
- 20:15all of them that they need to worry about their themselves, not their friends.
- 20:19They're in danger, YadA, YadA, YadA. And as they're walking
- 20:23down this hall, Zoro sees something stops and looks he can't like focus on
- 20:30it, tells them never mind, it was just my imagination, and then
- 20:36as he turns back and follows his friends, we see a spider dropped down
- 20:44from the ceiling, and I realized later on when we see Lufy, who
- 20:53has gotten wrapped up and put in one of these coffins, we see him
- 21:00like basically sailing down what looks almost like a wash line, Like you know
- 21:07that you would wheel in and out of your window if you lived in the
- 21:10city or something. That probably last episode when I was like, I guess
- 21:17that was Nami and us Up and Chopper that were in that one. No,
- 21:23they were still being carried by the squirrel guys, So I think that
- 21:27was Sangi that we saw. So that abrupt cut that I assumed was meant
- 21:33to insinuate here's our where our friends are, Now, that's not what it
- 21:37meant at all. And that's why it was so weird and abrupt, was
- 21:41that those were two different events happening, So, you know, just interesting
- 21:47to circle back to that. So let's see Pirona. Okay. Here,
- 21:52here is the moment where she shows up. She's talking to Kumasi, who
- 21:57is the little bear guy. I feel so bad for this bear. All
- 22:02he wants to do well. I don't know how much want comes into it
- 22:06because their motivations are corrupted by whatever is controlling them. But it seems like
- 22:11Kumasi is just trying to do his best and she is just so mean to
- 22:17him. And she says that the Risky Brothers, which is apparently the name
- 22:22of those creatures which are called squirrels in the dub I'm assuming that's what they
- 22:27are in the sub as well. She says, they'll be delivering those coffins
- 22:34soon, pick it up from them and take it straight to our master over
- 22:38at the dance hall. And I'm assuming that is doctor Hogback. I can't
- 22:48tell you, guys. You know how hard it is sometimes with this show
- 22:52to keep names straight. I feel like I do a decent job of it,
- 22:57all things considered. I certainly could be better. But doctor Hogback I
- 23:06always forget his name for a moment and then have to imagine a side of
- 23:11pork and go pig side, no hog, not the side, the back,
- 23:17and make that connection in order to remember his name. Fucking why is
- 23:22it easier to remember a side of pork? I don't know. That's just
- 23:25what lodged in my head. So yeah, this poor Kumussy is just like,
- 23:32yes, I'll do it, and she's yelling at him, don't talk.
- 23:33I told you not to talk. You're so ugly. It eventually gets
- 23:38him to just nod, there you go. You're much cuter when you keep
- 23:42that ugly mouth shut, and then he says, take care out there.
- 23:53Why do you care, Kumussy, have some dignity Gus says Captain John.
- 24:03We saw that Buggy was searching for a Captain John's treasure in a cave a
- 24:06while ago. Oh wow, that is a distant memory. Their master is
- 24:15Maria. I think, thank you, Gus. I fucking completely forgot about
- 24:19that dude, because we do not see him in these episodes at all.
- 24:22Appreciate that. So we then go to the Risky Brothers. Now, I'm
- 24:32gonna put the Risky Brothers in like a top ten list of favorite weird side
- 24:38characters. Their design is adorable, their voices are adorable. The script as
- 24:48written for their little voices is also fucking adorable. I love them so much.
- 24:57They have little vests. One of them has like what looks to be
- 25:02kind of buttons going down his front, which doesn't make any sense because they're
- 25:07not on a garment. I guess they're just so to his like skin.
- 25:11But he's got also like a woll mask on. And the other one has
- 25:15bandages around his head and his leg well actually they both have it around their
- 25:19leg. But they're just so cute. I just really liked their voices.
- 25:27It sounds like the same It may not be, but it sounds like the
- 25:30same voice. Actress that does Chopper's voice, because it's a similar like soprano
- 25:38kind of, you know sound. But I fell in love with these guys,
- 25:42and I was a little sad that the scene kind of ends with like
- 25:48them running off and we don't really see them again for the rest of this
- 25:53episode or the next two. It's all much bigger, more tough creatures because
- 26:00these guys they get put down pretty easily by Chopper in one shot, so
- 26:04they're not going to be at the front of any assault. So, yeah,
- 26:11Chopper, like they drop the coffin by accident, it pops open.
- 26:15Chopper comes out and he has turned into his like big muscular version of himself,
- 26:23and he takes these two down. They get like knocked out for a
- 26:30little while, but they are not dead, and they are like, ah,
- 26:36man, I guess we can't like fix this on our own. We're
- 26:41gonna need to call in reinforcements. One of them says, ah turds,
- 26:45which truly I don't know why, but that was very funny to me.
- 26:52So they run off to go and get there basically like you just wait until
- 26:56my big brother hears about this, And they take off and our friends sort
- 27:02of like forget about that threat or don't take it very seriously, because those
- 27:06guys are so small and they wind up getting surrounded pretty quick. So Nami,
- 27:15Chopper, and USAP are looking all around trying to figure out where it
- 27:21is they were being taken, and they noticed this like huge building that they
- 27:27hadn't noticed before. USAP mentions, like, that place is huge. How
- 27:32come we didn't see it? And I'm wondering if there's something magical happening or
- 27:37if it is just supposed to be, like, oh, it's so foggy.
- 27:40I don't know. But Nami, she says, I know what this
- 27:47place is. That is a bridge that connects one building to the other.
- 27:52It's kind of a passage way, and USAP is like a passage I mean,
- 28:00this is like a forest. Well, I guess it is kind of
- 28:03like a bedroom. But they must have been taking us to that other building
- 28:08for some reason. It's probably better that we don't know, to which Nami
- 28:14replies, don't be a baby. They were turning us into zombies and you
- 28:18know it, and I really appreciate, you know how much Nami's pragmatism speaks
- 28:25to my soul. That's exactly what was happening. Thank you Nami for getting
- 28:30to the point. Come on, let's not dance around this. Oh God,
- 28:33what could they have wanted with us? You know what they fucking wanted
- 28:34with you? Stop it. So this is when Nami is like, let's
- 28:41think for a second. And it's weird because the beat that we spend here
- 28:48with her going let's think for a second, it's they spend longer on this
- 28:56than it warrants. All it is is her thinking back to not very long
- 29:00ago when that Jack in the box said there's no treasure in this room in
- 29:03such a way that it makes her think that there's no treasure in that room,
- 29:08but there is in another. I accept her interpretation because I can tell
- 29:15this is what the show wants me to think. But I just would like
- 29:18to say, for the record, I would never have heard it that way,
- 29:23And I think it's acceptable that Nami is the only one who sort of
- 29:29hears that and is focused on it because of who she is and what her
- 29:32priorities are. But personally, if somebody's like, there's no blank, blank
- 29:37blank in this room, it sounds to me kind of like not around here.
- 29:44We don't do that here. It's it's sort of like a declaration of
- 29:51the overall vibe of the people involved in a place, and it's not about
- 29:56the room itself to give what I'm saying so way, it doesn't matter.
- 30:00I'm just I keep going back to this memory because they are playing it again,
- 30:03clearly pointing me in a direction, and I have to remind myself,
- 30:11Oh right, Nami heard this in a way that didn't even enter my head
- 30:15at all. So yeah, they want to run away, and she's just
- 30:22like thinking about money, and they can tell, but they don't really seem
- 30:26to like remember the line that's making her think about money, so she doesn't
- 30:32explain that to them. They don't really ask. It's kind of a weird
- 30:34moment once again where it's just reminding us that treasure is a factor, but
- 30:41there's not a conversation about it. And I don't get the impression us UP
- 30:48or Chopper are really aware Nami is thinking about that. In particular, I
- 30:55don't know that they even remember that Jack in the Box saying that, because
- 30:59you know, they were both pretty scared at the time. So finally US
- 31:06UP is like, no, we have really got to go, like we've
- 31:11got to get out of here, and she says, okay, fine,
- 31:15well which way should we run? What should we do? And as they're
- 31:21deciding, these penguins come waddling up. They do A one, A two,
- 31:33A three. We have a blonde penguin. We have a like very
- 31:41stitched up faced penguin with a The first penguin is really cute. He's got
- 31:48a little sort of like driving cap, bow tie, one eye that has
- 31:55a stitch through it, blonde hair, very adorable. The second one less
- 32:01adorable. The stitches look like they're in such a way that he no longer
- 32:07has a beak. He has a regular mouth, which is awful, and
- 32:13a scarf and a top hat, and one of his eyes has a sort
- 32:16of like darkness around it that almost looks like a flower shape or flower petals.
- 32:22The worst one, though, is the last one, who has a
- 32:28dog's face and a bow tie and a red and white checked I don't even
- 32:35know what to call that hat. It's just a big, round looking I
- 32:38would almost call it like a Rastafarian hat if it were knitted or crochet or
- 32:44whatever instead of whatever this is. It's a human pair of eyes and a
- 32:52dog's mouth. There's nothing remaining of a penguin in this face. It even
- 32:59has like doggy years. Horrible, horrible. I hate this. And he's
- 33:06like, they're they're introducing themselves as like a penguin duo, and then what
- 33:12is it? They call us the penguin zombie duo. Wait, that's not
- 33:15right. Trio. We're a trio. I'm the new guy. So it
- 33:22turns out we'll find out later, but I'm gonna just talk about it now.
- 33:28This little guy is somehow linked to Sangie's mind because it's out here doing
- 33:37all this shit. But we do go see that Sangi is all in,
- 33:44still in one piece, you get it. Oh my god. But no,
- 33:49he hasn't been like chopped up or anything. Because at first, later
- 33:52when like Nami starts to think, have you noticed his fighting style and she
- 33:55realizes that it resembles Sangie's fight style and the fact that he's like defending her
- 34:04specifically, I my heart dropped and I was like, oh my god,
- 34:08am I gonna have to like look at its face and figure out which parts
- 34:13of its face are fucking Sanie's features. That's so horrifying. I didn't think
- 34:21that this would be a permanent thing. I figure if he's turned into a
- 34:23zombie and he can be unturned from that. How don't ask me, but
- 34:27whatever, But eventually it's clear, like the eyes don't look like him.
- 34:34It's and the eyes, there's enough of that part of whoever's face it was
- 34:37taken off of that their eyebrows are there and we do not have the curly
- 34:40eyebrows. And other than that, there is nothing human about that face.
- 34:45And eventually we do see his body and he seems to be fully intact.
- 34:51So somehow Sangie's mind is linked. And I don't know if it's like because
- 35:01you know, we have this whole thing with their shadows being taken away.
- 35:07I'm wondering if that's the way, like what you get out of it,
- 35:12that if you take somebody's shadow, you get their abilities or they're like,
- 35:17it's not It doesn't make sense though, because there are still dudes with full
- 35:21consciousness walking around without shadows. It's not like they are going comatose or anything.
- 35:31I don't know. I don't know how this is happening. And it's
- 35:36not quite that Sangi is fully aware. He it's like this penguin has some
- 35:46some weird vestiges of Sangie's personalities and motivations, his ability to fight like instinctual
- 35:53stuff, his desire to protect women. But it doesn't know our friends when
- 36:00he when it looks at them, like he isn't going, oh my god,
- 36:05you guys. He is defending Nami because of his deep desire to protect
- 36:10women that for some reason is still there. But he is still attempting to
- 36:16fight us up and Chopper like everything is as it seems on the surface,
- 36:23which is to say that he is just their enemy, a zombie animal.
- 36:29So I'm really really curious to find out how this is happening. Um so
- 36:36this, uh, these creatures, these little animals. We have some really
- 36:39adorable ones and some really upsetting looking ones. There is a hippo who's like
- 36:46in a suit with a flared collar, and this this hippo dude really reminded
- 36:52me of the design in Spider Verse for mister Fisk. I don't know how
- 36:58many if you haven't watched into the Spider Verse, the animated Spider Man movie
- 37:02that came out like two years ago or three years ago, please do yourself
- 37:07the massive favor of watching that absolutely delightful movie. Gorgeous and very unique animation,
- 37:15a flawless script that is truly laugh out loud funny, and also a
- 37:23banger of a soundtrack, very very good soundtrack. But yeah, so we've
- 37:30got the hippo guy, We've got a sheet. We've got a amazing combo
- 37:36that works really well of a zebra and a kangaroo, which I love.
- 37:42Later when Who's up is about to fight it and he's like a kangaroo zebra
- 37:47or a zebra kangaroo? What do you like better? I don't know why,
- 37:52but him just being like, how how would you like me to refer
- 37:55to you? How do you identify? I think I love that of that
- 38:00so much, Thank you USA. We have a little guy that looks like
- 38:02a raccoon with a star around one eye, like he's like from Kiss,
- 38:08A huge hulking what looks like was originally a panda bear, but with this
- 38:15like tiny little almost cowlike face sewn on the front. Just a whole variety.
- 38:22There's what appears to be the face of like a dog or a fox
- 38:28on the body of a animal that seems tigerish but has the mane of a
- 38:34lion. And I really have to wonder how Oda comes up with these like
- 38:39does he just have a list of animal characteristics that are distinctive and he just
- 38:46like closes his eyes and just puts his pencil down and adds up whatever he
- 38:52clicks on. Like it's just really wild. But yeah, so this whole
- 39:00thing, we have each of our friends needing to fight in their own way.
- 39:05Nami runs across the weird dog one, usap faces off for a little
- 39:10while with the zebra just kangaroo, and eventually him and Nami wind up running
- 39:20off because Chopper says that he can hold these guys back, but there are
- 39:25kind of too many of them, and we get this a sort of hilarious
- 39:30chase scene where a bunch of the animals are pursuing Us up and Nami up
- 39:37and down these stairs that seem to go in a weird circle. I don't
- 39:40know if that's like part of the magic or if it's just a goof,
- 39:44but they end up making themselves surrounded, if that makes sense. Like they
- 39:52end up with some behind them and some in front of them, and they
- 39:54have to leap off onto some pillars, which all results in a eventually them
- 40:00leaping onto one that crumbles and they dropped down and wind up right with Chopper
- 40:07again. So the oh, there's so much with these animal guys, but
- 40:19what it comes down to is the whole thing with Sanji and figuring out that
- 40:23there's something up with one of these guys and Sanji is somehow connected to it.
- 40:29So going back to Lufy and Lufy Zoro Robin and Frankie, Zoro is
- 40:38now missing and they didn't notice him vanish, but of course we saw that
- 40:45he picked up on the fact that there was a weird spider thing, so
- 40:47we can assume probably that's what got him. And I do love There's a
- 40:52gag where there's this huge, hulking figure that comes walking out of the arc
- 41:00and it's in armor, and it turns out it's just Lufy that he saw
- 41:05armor and put it on, because of course you would. And Frankie is
- 41:08like, dude, what the fuck? How could you put armor on?
- 41:13What are you thinking? You scared the hell out of us, And Lufy
- 41:20is like, how could you not understand that, I'm like fulfilling the dream
- 41:25of every dude wearing a suit of armor. You pass a suit of armor
- 41:30and you fucking put it on, hello, to which Frankie actually apologizes and
- 41:38then say something about how even though he had to replace his heart, that's
- 41:44no replacement for a heart that's full of dreams. And we get him under
- 41:50the spotlight with his guitar again, and I forgot about this, and I
- 41:54didn't realize how much I missed Frankie singing a song for no reason. Realizing
- 42:01I've lost something so precious has blown a cold wind through the rusty cracks of
- 42:07my heart. I call this one steal Cyborg Traveler blues, and then the
- 42:14camera pans back over to their little pork friend, who says, I think
- 42:20you've forgotten the situation here genuinely funny, you guys. This guy is like,
- 42:27what is this? Is this a bit? What are you doing?
- 42:32So this is when we get to a really weird there's basically what looks like
- 42:44an arena, and there's a huge guy that's like a zombie inside of a
- 42:52suit of armor that blocks their way to even I think, like getting into
- 42:59the arena itself, or maybe they're they have just gotten through the door.
- 43:04But this guy fights Frankie. It's a tough like Frankie takes him down,
- 43:10but it's still like he knows he was in a fight after And the thing
- 43:16is he takes a guy down, but this dude can't die, and he
- 43:22can't get knocked unconscious and he doesn't experience pain, so he just stands up.
- 43:28And all of the other zombie generals wind up coming in, and it
- 43:34becomes very clear, very quickly that while under ordinary circumstances, these three guys
- 43:42could take out all of those dudes because they are zombified, they could just
- 43:49keep doing this all day. And Frankie is like, I mean, I
- 43:55can kick their asses, but keeping that up is really gonna wear us out.
- 44:01Like, I don't see how we get past these dudes, and I
- 44:06should mention too, Like a door slams behind them and locks them into this
- 44:10room and it's a zombie door, which I don't even know what that means,
- 44:16but I do know that he's got a big angry face stretched over the
- 44:22wall and it's really giving that character. And like the first Doctor who episode,
- 44:28well with the ninth Doctor now the first ever. So this whole I'm
- 44:37kind of jumping around here because there's so much going on, you guys,
- 44:40like genuinely, Oh, here we go. Here's another sighting of Pirona.
- 44:49We have her in the room. I think, when what happens to Zoro.
- 44:54Happens he gets pulled out. Oh, I said Maria wasn't in this
- 45:00episode, but of course this is Maria here that's grabbing him, is it.
- 45:05No? Maybe not start for Hogback. No, I think that's Maria.
- 45:08He's got the sharp teeth of Hogback, but his lower half that we
- 45:14see isn't. He isn't wearing the same outfit. I don't think the Hogback
- 45:17was wearing. I don't know, but either way, there's something real weird
- 45:22with like a light that shines and sort of makes it obviously scares Zoro and
- 45:30makes him like pass out and he gets tossed over onto the pile with Sanji.
- 45:39So the fight against all of these dudes, we eventually get a guy
- 45:45who clearly is like channeling Zoro's spirit, and he's wearing a shirt that says
- 45:54your song on it, which I really don't know what that's meant to be
- 46:00about, but it doesn't matter. I love the fact that he's like,
- 46:05I don't recognize you, and you are my sworn enemy, and Lufy is
- 46:09just like I am in a genuine sort of like oh that's interesting kind of
- 46:14way, and he says I'm going to cut you into little pieces, and
- 46:16Lufy says, man, you are a lot like Zoro, only dumber.
- 46:22And then something comes at Lufy from behind and he turns and this, uh,
- 46:30it's a weird moment. So he turns. Things cut and then you
- 46:38see like a backpack that comes sailing through what looks almost like a ventilation shaft.
- 46:44And I don't recall what this has to do with, but that's like
- 46:47the cut before. We then go to Frankie and Robin has gotten up towards
- 46:58the ceiling. She swoops in on like a rope, swings and tells Frankie
- 47:05to grab on and they start running, but like Lufy is still in there,
- 47:12which I thought was surprising that they don't attempt to, you know,
- 47:15eventually they're like where is he? And Frankie says something like he's really hard
- 47:21to see in this crowd with that armor on. But I thought it was
- 47:25weird that they begin running without checking on Lufy to begin with. Frankie tries
- 47:30to do like a fresh fire and they all use water to just douse it
- 47:36and it's no problem for them whatsoever. And the attack from rob and they
- 47:45get out of this room and they're on the bridge, y'all, I don't
- 47:52know how the door is open. Did he go? Oh? Okay,
- 47:57so thus said, I think Lufy was wearing the backpack. They took him
- 48:02and left his backpack. He got snatched. Oh that's what that meant.
- 48:08How did they get out of the room though? Did they get past these
- 48:15like because they're they're back to outside, and I know Robin like swooped Frankie
- 48:22up, but I don't know. Did she just go to another entrance in
- 48:27a different spot. It's not super clear for me. It doesn't matter that
- 48:31much. I was just sort of wondering because I'm looking at them now being
- 48:35in a whole other spot, and I'm like, wait, I know that
- 48:37they did get out, but I don't remember how that happened, and I
- 48:39don't see it on the screen. That's it's in a clear way. So
- 48:44yeah, as they're running at this point, they noticed that Lufy isn't there,
- 48:49and this is the moment where they hear his voice and they look up
- 48:53and there's this rope that is carrying a huge what do you call it?
- 49:00It's got a coffin wrapped in like spider silk, and it's moving across and
- 49:05Lufy is yelling for them to let him out, and they begin to try
- 49:08and like charge into the building that Lufy's being taken into, and they get
- 49:16interrupted by a giant spider monkey. Y'all, this thing is a horror.
- 49:29This is a true nightmare. All of these animals and creatures are upsetting,
- 49:37you know. Of course, this one, though, I could see being
- 49:40an actual, for real scary horror movie. I hate this thing. It's
- 49:50of course the combo of the monkeyishness with the spiderness. So it's not only
- 49:54got eight legs, but it also has fingers on its front legs, and
- 50:00it's got a monkeyish face. And I'll say it, I don't like monkeys.
- 50:08I'm just saying there are there I have, you know, strong feelings
- 50:14about certain animals, and then they're animals that I can take or leave,
- 50:20and then they're animals that I really just don't like. I could take or
- 50:24leave Pandas because they are just a drag. Pandas don't even want to still
- 50:30be alive anymore. They do the bare minimum and they fail at that.
- 50:35Honestly, they just want to die out. It seems pretty clear to me.
- 50:37So screw Pandas. I don't like them, Okay, monkeys I hate
- 50:45They're like the combination of the worst parts of animals and people. They're able
- 50:54to do more and smart enough to do more, but not quite smart enough
- 50:59to like really restrain themselves in a way that is, you know what I
- 51:04mean. So they're not only out here just like shitting into their own hand
- 51:08and chucking it at you depending on Like if you've got an ape, they
- 51:15will eat your face off and you could do nothing because they are so insanely
- 51:19strong, very scary. Don't like it. So this guy, I love
- 51:25his little introduction where he's just like, you've heard of spider monkeys before,
- 51:30and I am one. He's just so proud to like be this new creature.
- 51:37So he drops down in front of them, blocks their way and you
- 51:45know, monologues about how they have to get through him, and it's a
- 51:49whole villain moment. And then the sort of I'm trying to get to the
- 51:58spot here, you guys, because I'm running out of time, so I
- 52:01want to make sure that I talk about every moment that really matters. I
- 52:07feel like I've talked about Absalom and what's going on with him for the most
- 52:10part, that I don't really need to go any further into that. Oh
- 52:16we have I almost forgot you guys. Nami gets like picked up and carried
- 52:21off by Absalom. I thought I covered everything with him, but I forgot
- 52:24that. She gets gripped up. He is invisible at first, so her
- 52:30friends are like, oh, you can fly, and then he turns visible
- 52:34again and they realize what's going on, and she starts to tell him that
- 52:37he's a sick voyor who's treating her like a piece of meat, and she
- 52:43jabs him with the thing that Usa made her and electrocutes him, and it
- 52:47is pretty great. I really did a like fist pump at this scene.
- 52:54So she gets away from him and she's just like, keep running, don't
- 53:00stop. We have got to get out of here. Absalom, of course,
- 53:06is extremely agitated that she managed to get away with get away from him
- 53:13and the fact that he was trying to attack Nami that like Penguin who was
- 53:20defending her, is still kind of in that mode, and Absalom has to
- 53:25throw him into a wall. This is the point where Lola turns up and
- 53:31she is also running after Nami, and Nami's like hearing for the first time
- 53:37that she considers herself to be Absalom's wife, So you know, she's like,
- 53:45basically, give me my husband back. So back to the monkeys or
- 53:52the monkey I guess these. Let's see, it looks like that big web
- 53:59that caught the sunny when we came here was your work. If I'm not
- 54:02mistaken. This is Frankie talking. And I had forgotten all about that web
- 54:08and this monstrous monkey thing being the one that made that web. The fact
- 54:16that it can make a web so gross. I hate this. I don't
- 54:21know why it's so much grosser. I think it's because he's a mammal,
- 54:24you know, like he's got a mammal like face. So the idea of
- 54:29him making spider silk, it just feels like it's gonna have to be a
- 54:34lot more body fluid ish. Oh gross, gross gross. Anyway, he
- 54:45tells them that, you know, getting caught in that was the beginning of
- 54:50the end, and that they have been doomed from the start. There is
- 54:52a really weird moment where Robin says that his big ears must be good for
- 54:58collecting information, and he puts a hand to his ear and says, hum,
- 55:00what was that? I don't know if that's gonna like matter later,
- 55:05but it was like a weird, extremely dumb joke. There are also a
- 55:08couple of moments one their friends are getting picked off that Robin is saying something
- 55:15like maybe they're being strangled so they can't call for help, and then later
- 55:19I hope they still have all their limbs, and Frankie keeps yelling at her
- 55:22for being like really depressing, and it made me think about what you guys
- 55:25have said that Robin in the sub has a very dry sense of humor that
- 55:30is kind of like a bit we've got a bit of nihilism in there,
- 55:38and that it doesn't come across in the dub, and I think that is
- 55:44probably a moment where the sub might be funnier than the dub. But anyway,
- 55:52so the two of them realize that they are completely surrounded. Robin calls
- 55:58this worst case scenario and Frankie says, well, we need a last second
- 56:02miracle. Do you think I can handle it? And Robin says, I'd
- 56:07like to see you try put on a good show for me, which I
- 56:13was surprised by because it's not like she can't fight. She's sort of acting
- 56:15like you're just going to be the only one that does the thing. But
- 56:22it turns out what he intends to do is bust the bridge that they're standing
- 56:30on, that they have been cornered on. And the fucking spider Monkey in
- 56:37the dub you guys, the flawless line delivery. You can't break the Fraggan
- 56:45bridge, man like true indignation, and the Fragan makes it like it's just
- 56:57perfect. He's so he's like, we all agreed, I thought on the
- 57:01rules here. This is well outside of what I thought. Again, we
- 57:07were all operating on genuinely l old at that moment. And he says that's
- 57:15cheating, and everybody begins to slide downward. And this is when Frankie's like,
- 57:22all right, so what do you think of my plan? And Robin's
- 57:23like, well, it's violent, so it's got that going for it.
- 57:30Everybody begins to just fall through the air down to the ground. I'm assuming
- 57:35that the Spider Monkey is going to save himself by using spider silk to catch
- 57:37himself, but we see Robin falling above Frankie. First of all, I
- 57:44absolutely must mention that as she's falling toward him, the shadows of the animation
- 57:52like make it look like she's wearing a see through dress and that you can
- 57:57see her black underwear under the dress through it and it's just the shadows,
- 58:02but it is like a real optical illusion. She does sien flur, and
- 58:09these are arms that all come out of her body, out of her back
- 58:15and form into wings. Like it's so many arms. It's a really weird
- 58:22moment because you see very clearly that this is all arms. But then when
- 58:30she flaps the wings, it looks like feathers are coming off her or petals
- 58:35or something, and I know that she has the flower petal thing, so
- 58:38it's just like we just see that these wings are actually arms for a moment,
- 58:45and then the animation sort of puts that to the wayside because I'm sure
- 58:50that's way too much detailed to keep drawing over and over. So they pretty
- 58:53much just look like big fluffy wings from then on. And I loved that
- 59:02it turns out she can fly, but only for like five seconds, and
- 59:08not only is it like a short period of time, but obviously holding onto
- 59:13Frankie makes it extra difficult, so she's able to keep them aloft for just
- 59:19a second, and then Frankie uses his ability to like grab onto something with
- 59:25that big chain hand thing he's got going on, and Robin leaps off of
- 59:31him to safety on the balcony while Frankie has to like drag himself up,
- 59:38and he seems really salty about the fact that she was like using him as
- 59:44a stepping stone. But I don't really know what the other option was,
- 59:47like if you if she didn't do that, he'd have to haul her up,
- 59:53which I feel like she saved him some trouble, honestly, So I
- 59:58don't know. He asks for an apology and she just ignores it, and
- 1:00:01I feel like she is right to do so. So yeah, this is
- 1:00:07when he says, you can help me up at least, and she gets
- 1:00:10a look on her face and he says, what do you see something?
- 1:00:13And she's looking down. Oh, I forgot that. We see what happens
- 1:00:15to the spider. He landed. He didn't save himself, but he is
- 1:00:19still fine because duh, he's undead. I completely forgot, and the spider
- 1:00:25monkey is real man. He's basically like, I'm gonna get you for this.
- 1:00:30You realize I'm a spider. Give me two seconds and I'll be right
- 1:00:34there. All I'd start running if I were you. And there's something about
- 1:00:38the fact that he just like says that he can be there in two seconds
- 1:00:44that makes me think he can't be there in two seconds, but maybe I'm
- 1:00:49wrong. And then we hear laughter and we get pretty awesome, in my
- 1:00:57opinion, animation of what looks to be Brooke falling toward them at a great
- 1:01:04speed. I am just loving this animation. It's really reminiscent of camera work.
- 1:01:09You know, he is falling towards them, yelling at the top of
- 1:01:15his voice, and everybody is sort of like, do you see that?
