- 1:11Speaker 3: territory of Washington, DC, Nation's Capitol District of Columbia.
- 1:15Speaker 4: For sure.
- 1:16Speaker 3: We just we literally just finished an event that we had,
- 1:19Speaker 3: our first of our weekend events. It was crazy, crazy man. Noah,
- 1:24Speaker 3: it was like the Beatles. Man, It's like the Beatles
- 1:27Speaker 3: and Michael Jordan. It's a whole vibe, man. So shout
- 1:29Speaker 3: out to everybody from d m V and the whole
- 1:31Speaker 3: whole country that came to the event.
- 1:33Speaker 5: Capitol Events a group. Man, shout to our boy.
- 1:35Speaker 4: No, it was a shot to Sharani. Man, shot to Sharani.
- 1:38Speaker 3: And so breaking news, breaking news. We are going to
- 1:41Speaker 3: do this again in Atlanta, atl Edi year. We're gonna
- 1:45Speaker 3: have a live podcast, we're gonna have a workshop, We're
- 1:47Speaker 3: gonna yo, we can't play around with Atlanta. So so
- 1:51Speaker 3: Atlanta's gonna be serious. That's gonna be January twenty fifth,
- 1:54Speaker 3: January twenty sixth, So we're gonna be releasing information on
- 1:57Speaker 3: that very very soon.
- 1:59Speaker 6: But you saw Atlanta guests, right, so you know how
- 2:02Speaker 6: we how we do. When we come to Atlanta, it's
- 2:04Speaker 6: going to be a whole ordeal.
- 2:05Speaker 4: No, no, it's going to be a vibe. It's gonna
- 2:07Speaker 4: be a vibe. So all right.
- 2:09Speaker 3: This is an episode that we've been looking to do
- 2:12Speaker 3: for a long time and it just kind of fell
- 2:15Speaker 3: on all that because we didn't you know, we were
- 2:18Speaker 3: blessed where people reach out to us now to interview
- 2:20Speaker 3: to them and things that nature is. But we wanted
- 2:24Speaker 3: to do an interview on the barbershop industry, right, But
- 2:29Speaker 3: we didn't want to just do it with anybody. We
- 2:32Speaker 3: wanted to do it with somebody that has a successful model,
- 2:36Speaker 3: somebody that has scaled their business, and somebody that can.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Really teach the game.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, Alicia, it's all about just dropping gyms and
- 2:44Speaker 3: provided information. So yes, one of our are loyal ernest
- 2:48Speaker 3: dm us and said, can you get him on the podcast? Gentleman,
- 2:52Speaker 3: name is Wave Mendez. And once I looked at his page,
- 2:55Speaker 3: I'm like yeah, and I d M him and he
- 2:58Speaker 3: was like.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Yeah, let's do it so I'll get a background.
- 3:01Speaker 3: So Weight is interesting because he started off as as
- 3:05Speaker 3: a barber by trade, right, and that's not any different
- 3:11Speaker 3: from any other barber.
- 3:12Speaker 5: Right.
- 3:12Speaker 3: That's one thing in our community is there's a lot
- 3:13Speaker 3: of people that cut here, right.
- 3:15Speaker 5: I think just cutting here was ancestry. Right. It's a
- 3:18Speaker 5: long line of barbers yeah.
- 3:20Speaker 3: So he started off cutting here. But the thing I
- 3:22Speaker 3: like about him is that he's expanded his business. So
- 3:26Speaker 3: he's he's grown his business and now he has multiple locations.
- 3:30Speaker 3: We'll talk about that, but what really really really.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Put him on the map and change the game is that.
- 3:36Speaker 3: So I'm gonna call it with the streets call it,
- 3:38Speaker 3: and then Troy gonna call it with the technical term.
- 3:41Speaker 3: So if if you're not familiar that the hottest thing
- 3:45Speaker 3: in the streets right now is the is the man unit,
- 3:48Speaker 3: and the man unit is man.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Yeah man, that's no disrespect to the Yeah man.
- 3:59Speaker 5: I don't want y'all zoom went in right now on
- 4:00Speaker 5: my head.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:02Speaker 3: So if you know that, it's a common misconception that
- 4:06Speaker 3: I'm I'm bald.
- 4:08Speaker 4: I'm not bald.
- 4:09Speaker 3: I'm light skinning, I have a short haircut, I have
- 4:12Speaker 3: a Caesar, I still grow hair.
- 4:13Speaker 5: It's emo.
- 4:14Speaker 3: I'm about to I'm about to grow my hair back.
- 4:16Speaker 3: But but Troy, Troy is bald.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Always announced it that I think they can see it
- 4:23Speaker 5: is what it is. I'm bald. No, I have a recession.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Yeah, deep deep deep recession.
- 4:30Speaker 6: So so sosion.
- 4:32Speaker 3: So what happened for years and especially you know black men,
- 4:35Speaker 3: you know, just rocked the ball head. But recently a
- 4:40Speaker 3: lot of men have been getting a second chance of life.
- 4:42Speaker 3: And you know, you can have a hair piece and
- 4:46Speaker 3: it's it's actually looks pretty dope, like I've seen it,
- 4:50Speaker 3: and you can style it, you can cut it, you
- 4:52Speaker 3: can put parts in it.
- 4:53Speaker 4: It's a whole it's a whole vibe.
- 4:55Speaker 3: And Wade was one of the first that really blew
- 4:59Speaker 3: it up on social media and he became extremely successful.
- 5:02Speaker 3: He's been a black and have probably been a bunch
- 5:05Speaker 3: of different publications since HBO, BT n PR. They wrote
- 5:10Speaker 3: a made over half a million dollars last year, runs
- 5:15Speaker 3: a whole million dollar operations.
- 5:16Speaker 4: So we're going to talk about it. We're gonna get
- 5:19Speaker 4: in depth and correct the name.
- 5:21Speaker 5: Now.
- 5:21Speaker 6: Yeah, so it is a man leave on the streets,
- 5:25Speaker 6: but it's also known as a here unit or a
- 5:28Speaker 6: cranial parathesis thesis.
- 5:31Speaker 5: That's it, right, pro thesis. I was close cranial prop thesis.
- 5:36Speaker 4: All right. So first and foremost song, thankfully known as
- 5:38Speaker 4: a two pair thing. Thank you, thank you for joining us.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Appreciate it man, my pleasure, my pleasure for being here.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Thank you all for having me, for sure, So can
- 5:47Speaker 4: we all right?
- 5:47Speaker 3: So can we talk about your journey because, like I said,
- 5:49Speaker 3: the barber conversation is interesting because how I look at
- 5:51Speaker 3: it in our communities is that there's like three businesses
- 5:55Speaker 3: that black entrepreneurs want to start. Barbershop here, salon, right,
- 6:01Speaker 3: clothing store some sorid fashion, and a restaurant. Ye, those
- 6:05Speaker 3: are like the three like go to businesses. Right, And
- 6:08Speaker 3: I always say that the only problem with the barbershop
- 6:13Speaker 3: and the the restaurants and the clothing store is that
- 6:18Speaker 3: they all can be scalable. But ninety five percent of
- 6:22Speaker 3: the time they're not scalable. They stay just local, mom
- 6:25Speaker 3: and pop And it's hard to really make a lot
- 6:28Speaker 3: of money when you don't have a scalable model. But
- 6:32Speaker 3: you do have a scalable model. So, first and foremost,
- 6:36Speaker 3: how did you get started in the barbershop industry? Barber industry?
- 6:41Speaker 3: And when did that turn? Like when did you start
- 6:44Speaker 3: to look at it and to say, okay, I can
- 6:46Speaker 3: actually make this into a multid or a million dollar
- 6:49Speaker 3: plus operation.
- 6:51Speaker 7: Well, I mean, you know, Barbara is running a family.
- 6:55Speaker 7: My great grandfather had a barbershop. My grandfather could cut,
- 6:58Speaker 7: my dad could cut, my uncle cut and it went
- 7:03Speaker 7: to me.
- 7:03Speaker 4: I started cutting my hands on twelve.
- 7:05Speaker 7: So it was a situation where I tried different things,
- 7:08Speaker 7: kind of got in the industry because it was my passion.
- 7:11Speaker 4: But I didn't know you could make bread with this.
- 7:12Speaker 4: I didn't know you can make money.
- 7:14Speaker 7: With barbering like that because I never seen an example
- 7:17Speaker 7: of somebody really making taking it seriously and really making
- 7:20Speaker 7: money and trying to make some think some things happen.
- 7:23Speaker 7: So it wasn't like something that I got into for
- 7:25Speaker 7: the money. I got into it to the passion and
- 7:27Speaker 7: for the impact that it has on people, you know
- 7:29Speaker 7: what I mean. And I think that you know, once
- 7:31Speaker 7: you when you when you focus on those things, money
- 7:35Speaker 7: will come. But I think every year I just progressed
- 7:38Speaker 7: and just got got better and gain more because I
- 7:41Speaker 7: was pushing myself more every year. You know, I never
- 7:44Speaker 7: I got a fear of being complacent. I never just
- 7:46Speaker 7: want to be complacent. So every year I was pushing
- 7:48Speaker 7: myself to do more and think more so about from
- 7:51Speaker 7: behind the chair, just not at the local barbershop, but
- 7:54Speaker 7: like you know, I started cutting different celebrities, traveling to
- 7:57Speaker 7: met little Mode in barber school and and from there
- 8:01Speaker 7: you know what I'm saying, traveling, meeting different celebrities, cutting
- 8:04Speaker 7: for BT Awards, different awards shows, uh with BT TV
- 8:08Speaker 7: one different stuff like that or whatever. And I just
- 8:11Speaker 7: didn't never I didn't necessarily want to be a normal
- 8:13Speaker 7: barber at a barber shop, you know. So I was like,
- 8:16Speaker 7: all right, how can I take this to the next level?
- 8:18Speaker 7: And then started getting to the hair units you know. Actually,
- 8:23Speaker 7: uh so, so I actually got a little quick story
- 8:26Speaker 7: that was a young lady I was dating whatever, and
- 8:30Speaker 7: we actually, uh yeah, well, so let me go. So
- 8:35Speaker 7: my boy, him and his wife got a shop in Chicago.
- 8:39Speaker 7: She had starts here barber. He was like, bro, I'm
- 8:41Speaker 7: making so much bread doing weaves. He was like, man,
- 8:45Speaker 7: my wife taught me how to do wiz so for women,
- 8:49Speaker 7: because you know, you can only you can only charge
- 8:51Speaker 7: me so much as a barber each head before for
- 8:54Speaker 7: dudes is like, nah, bro, I'm not paying that. So
- 8:56Speaker 7: I'm like, and you cap out as far as how
- 8:59Speaker 7: much you can make, you know, And so he was like, man,
- 9:02Speaker 7: how he was like, yo, you need to get into
- 9:04Speaker 7: this because I'm making like four hundred dollars ahead now.
- 9:07Speaker 7: So I told my girl at the time, she was like,
- 9:09Speaker 7: I'm not.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Doing all what would the stigma be if you?
- 9:12Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 9:13Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:13Speaker 7: So there was that, and then she was like, I
- 9:15Speaker 7: don't trust them girls. They're gonna be all, you know,
- 9:17Speaker 7: trying to heat on you.
- 9:20Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:21Speaker 7: So I was like I fell back. I was like,
- 9:22Speaker 7: all right, I ain't gonna do it. But at the
- 9:24Speaker 7: end of the day, I just kind of pray. I
- 9:27Speaker 7: was like, all right, all right, guys, like I'm man
- 9:29Speaker 7: of face. So I was like, all right, how I'm
- 9:30Speaker 7: gonna make more money without killing myself?
- 9:33Speaker 4: And so did you own your shop at this point?
- 9:35Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 9:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:35Speaker 4: At this time, I had one shop.
- 9:37Speaker 7: I didn't have the second location yet, and so I
- 9:40Speaker 7: ain't gonna lie. So the shop thing, you know, unless
- 9:43Speaker 7: you're doing commission as a barber, you're really not making
- 9:46Speaker 7: a whole lot of money off no barber shops, you
- 9:48Speaker 7: know what I'm saying. I just I'll be honest about that.
- 9:50Speaker 5: So how do we go through?
- 9:51Speaker 6: Because I know, like you've studied here, like you you
- 9:53Speaker 6: went to the ever kind of right, this is out
- 9:57Speaker 6: of high school.
- 9:57Speaker 7: Right, Yeah, I went to college for year and a
- 10:00Speaker 7: half and then I went to barber school.
- 10:02Speaker 6: Okay, And so what was the process of getting your
- 10:04Speaker 6: first show. That that was the w loft.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Yeah, the air loft, so yeah, what's.
- 10:08Speaker 7: The process of even getting that all right? So actually
- 10:11Speaker 7: I actually had an event earlier to day. I was
- 10:14Speaker 7: talking telling Shamon's story. So I had I had went
- 10:18Speaker 7: did a salon suite for two years. I outgrew that
- 10:22Speaker 7: because it's like one little small room that you went
- 10:24Speaker 7: by yourself. So I had some clients. It's like, man,
- 10:27Speaker 7: you need to get your own shop because this room
- 10:29Speaker 7: is cramping. You know, we crammed up in here. Ain't
- 10:34Speaker 7: no waiting room in the hallway with the waiting room.
- 10:37Speaker 7: So I went to the bank, got to nod uh.
- 10:41Speaker 7: They was like, no, we can't give you any money
- 10:43Speaker 7: to open them spot or whatever. So I just started
- 10:45Speaker 7: stacking my money and just saving.
- 10:46Speaker 6: Was that typical like if I wanted to open a barbershop,
- 10:49Speaker 6: banks are like, no, we're not trying to give.
- 10:50Speaker 7: You loans most most times unless you have something to
- 10:53Speaker 7: show for. At the time, I didn't. I didn't I
- 10:54Speaker 7: didn't own a house or I didn't have it. I
- 10:56Speaker 7: didn't really really I had no access. So so I said,
- 11:00Speaker 7: I started saving money. But then I had it was
- 11:02Speaker 7: like almost like I had two angels that came like, hey, man,
- 11:06Speaker 7: what's it gonna take if you get a shot. They
- 11:08Speaker 7: gave me twenty thousand dollars and from that point you
- 11:12Speaker 7: investors like yeah, they they literally I felt like, God,
- 11:14Speaker 7: something is angy. Both listen, I'm gonna tell you this.
- 11:22Speaker 7: So they was like, Hey, we're gonna, we're going, we're going,
- 11:24Speaker 7: we're gonna get you this this money. You're gonna cut
- 11:27Speaker 7: our hand for free, and you're gonna pay us back monthly.
- 11:31Speaker 7: I gave them four monthly installments, man, and they would
- 11:35Speaker 7: not cast a check to this day, and that's eight
- 11:37Speaker 7: years ago. They had not cast a check. And it's
- 11:39Speaker 7: almost like the advantage because I don't even talk to
- 11:41Speaker 7: them no more.
- 11:42Speaker 4: They like, they gone, what's one of the name Michael Fact?
- 11:48Speaker 4: That is unheard of.
- 11:49Speaker 7: But I say that the same when you're following your
- 11:51Speaker 7: passion and you and you're doing what your purpose, you know,
- 11:54Speaker 7: following fulilling your purpose, there's always going to be provision
- 11:57Speaker 7: that's made for you. You know what I'm saying, And
- 11:59Speaker 7: like what this like you getting out there and going
- 12:01Speaker 7: after it or things coming to you.
- 12:03Speaker 4: You can't be lazy though you gotta go after what
- 12:05Speaker 4: you what you what you want.
- 12:07Speaker 7: But at the end of the day, you know, I
- 12:08Speaker 7: tried to build a brand that's you know, respectable people
- 12:11Speaker 7: you know, disrespect what I was doing. And they was like, man,
- 12:14Speaker 7: they wanted to see me go go to the next level,
- 12:16Speaker 7: you know what I mean. So that's that was that
- 12:18Speaker 7: was the first thing to get that shot. But the
- 12:21Speaker 7: hair unit stuff, man, that was an answer to a prayer.
- 12:23Speaker 7: That was a young lady at the shop.
- 12:25Speaker 4: You know.
- 12:25Speaker 7: After after a while I got the shop or whatever,
- 12:28Speaker 7: I had people in there, had a whole team and everything,
- 12:30Speaker 7: and she came in there. It was like pulling our
- 12:32Speaker 7: hair out the bag, like afro hair, and was adding
- 12:35Speaker 7: it to she was she was a Lotician, so she
- 12:38Speaker 7: was adding it to two people's locks and I was like, man,
- 12:41Speaker 7: I don't even know they sold that type of hair.
- 12:42Speaker 7: So from there it was like a light bulb went
- 12:45Speaker 7: off and I was like, all right, we got to
- 12:46Speaker 7: do this for guys.
- 12:47Speaker 4: That's that's losing their hair, you know.
- 12:50Speaker 7: And I didn't know it at the time, but it
- 12:52Speaker 7: just started becoming the thing. And then it's like now
- 12:55Speaker 7: I'm able to you know, make you know, a lot
- 12:59Speaker 7: of money off of one person, and as opposed to
- 13:00Speaker 7: that me cutting one cutting all day and I only
- 13:04Speaker 7: made six seven hundred dollars. But I can make that
- 13:06Speaker 7: off of one person. Now you know what I'm saying.
- 13:08Speaker 3: You say you said something that was interested if we
- 13:10Speaker 3: could just go back to the barbershop conversation, and you
- 13:13Speaker 3: said that unless you have a commission, you can't really
- 13:16Speaker 3: make money in a barber shop right now, So there's
- 13:18Speaker 3: there's two different types of business models of barber shops,
- 13:20Speaker 3: right rent and commission.
- 13:21Speaker 4: Can you explain?
- 13:22Speaker 3: Well, the rent obviously, it's like you have five barbers
- 13:24Speaker 3: and they're paying you share rent, like five hundred a
- 13:27Speaker 3: month or something like that. What's the commission model?
- 13:30Speaker 7: A mission is you getting a piece of every person
- 13:32Speaker 7: that walked through that door.
- 13:33Speaker 6: So every time I get cut, you actually get a cut.
- 13:36Speaker 4: I get a percentage of that of that.
- 13:38Speaker 7: Yes, So as a business owner for a barbershop, and
- 13:41Speaker 7: a lot of people will be I want my own shop,
- 13:42Speaker 7: want my own shop. Now, it's cool to have a
- 13:44Speaker 7: shop just for the look.
- 13:46Speaker 4: That's what you just want.
- 13:46Speaker 7: You don't want to make no money, like you just
- 13:48Speaker 7: wanted to pay for itself, all right, that's what you want,
- 13:50Speaker 7: all right, Cool, But if you if you're really trying
- 13:52Speaker 7: to profit as a business owner, you have to either
- 13:56Speaker 7: have a big shop that has a lot of chairs
- 13:58Speaker 7: in there a lot people are paying booth frint, or
- 14:01Speaker 7: you got to have a commit a commission based model. Now,
- 14:05Speaker 7: for my first two I did not do that. I did,
- 14:08Speaker 7: you know boo frint, and so they paid for theirself.
- 14:10Speaker 7: I told my boys all the time, I feel like
- 14:12Speaker 7: I got two community centers. But I was like, but
- 14:17Speaker 7: at the same time, I'm being able to help others,
- 14:19Speaker 7: and I feel like that's why I'm getting blessed now
- 14:21Speaker 7: because I've in party, I helped other people get money.
- 14:24Speaker 7: I mean, that's mad barbers that came to my shop.
- 14:27Speaker 7: I trained them. Now they got their own spots and
- 14:29Speaker 7: stuff like that. So it's cool. But I said my
- 14:32Speaker 7: next time, you know, I got to make you know,
- 14:34Speaker 7: thinking more business minded. So in these last maybe I
- 14:38Speaker 7: would say two to three years. Man, I've really been
- 14:40Speaker 7: trying to build systems and put systems in place that
- 14:43Speaker 7: make money for me in my sleep. So that's why
- 14:45Speaker 7: I got the book, That's why I got the online classes,
- 14:48Speaker 7: that's why I have you know, the network. I have
- 14:50Speaker 7: a referral network where I send out barbers. I mean,
- 14:53Speaker 7: I send out people that have taken my class.
- 14:55Speaker 4: I send out.
- 14:57Speaker 7: Clients to you, you know what I'm saying. And so
- 14:59Speaker 7: I take a energy of that and just building systems
- 15:01Speaker 7: and building things. Uh, you know, I've just always been
- 15:04Speaker 7: trying to just multiple multiple strange.
- 15:06Speaker 6: Man, you said you said something very interesting, right, So
- 15:08Speaker 6: in the w uh the w hairloft, right at the time,
- 15:12Speaker 6: you had a client of celebrity client that kind of
- 15:15Speaker 6: changed away for you because what you're saying now it
- 15:17Speaker 6: sounds like obviously you've branded yourself. Yeah, but you said
- 15:19Speaker 6: a little mo yeah, played a big party, and you're
- 15:21Speaker 6: realizing that man, Yeah, how did that happen?
- 15:25Speaker 7: So it's funny. I shout out with my boy Elliott man.
- 15:27Speaker 7: I did a cut on him and she saw it,
- 15:29Speaker 7: and uh, she was like, who cut your head? And
- 15:32Speaker 7: I was still in barber school at the time. She
- 15:34Speaker 7: was coming to barber school, you know, and it was crazy.
- 15:37Speaker 7: Everybody's like, yo, what the little more at your at
- 15:39Speaker 7: the barber.
- 15:40Speaker 5: School put it on me time. It's a little bit
- 15:41Speaker 5: after No, it.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Was after uh, let's get married.
- 15:47Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:50Speaker 4: That's yeah.
- 15:51Speaker 7: So that was still pretty much a hit for you
- 15:53Speaker 7: know at the time, and so I'm low key starstruck
- 15:56Speaker 7: because I ain't never celebrity.
- 15:58Speaker 4: At that point, I was like, Yo, this is crazy.
- 16:00Speaker 5: I was shaking it.
- 16:00Speaker 7: I'm like, oh man, because she was getting like a
- 16:03Speaker 7: little taper in the back and the neck, and I
- 16:05Speaker 7: think she wanted the design. So I started cutting her singers,
- 16:07Speaker 7: the background dancers and all that stuff or whatever. And
- 16:10Speaker 7: then we used to start traveling. She started introducing me.
- 16:12Speaker 7: She I met baby Lil Wayne Diddy, like mad. People
- 16:16Speaker 7: will start cutting wind Dixon through her and then from
- 16:18Speaker 7: there it's just start growing.
- 16:21Speaker 5: Man legend and.
- 16:24Speaker 7: So yeah, then I start I got connected with somebody
- 16:27Speaker 7: at BT and I started doing like a lot of
- 16:29Speaker 7: the BT events and BT warars and stuff like that
- 16:31Speaker 7: from that.
- 16:32Speaker 3: So all right, so the barbershop, right you were saying that.
- 16:37Speaker 3: So for the units, it's anywhere from like two hundred.
- 16:39Speaker 4: To eight hundred, Yeah, but it could be a little
- 16:43Speaker 4: more that depending on house.
- 16:46Speaker 5: The well look at it.
- 16:52Speaker 7: If you was like, yo, I could you still grow head?
- 16:56Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, because you just want to you want to
- 16:58Speaker 4: ball head.
- 16:59Speaker 6: My brother told me I'm important. He said dictate the look.
- 17:01Speaker 6: Don't let the look dictate you.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Bro. He cut it. He cut it ball because he
- 17:05Speaker 4: had no choice.
- 17:07Speaker 5: This is a professional, he's a specialist. You're not gonna
- 17:10Speaker 5: do this. No.
- 17:11Speaker 7: But if because there's some people that have alopecia, they
- 17:13Speaker 7: can't grow no head, they got starting alopecia, different types
- 17:16Speaker 7: of things. And so if you're getting a custom unit,
- 17:18Speaker 7: that's gonna be around about nine or so.
- 17:21Speaker 4: So that's me. You can't grow nothing. That's the whole choice.
- 17:23Speaker 7: Oh piece, yeah, so yeah, and then if you want dress,
- 17:27Speaker 7: it just gets get up there.
- 17:28Speaker 3: But so, but for a bar so for a haircut,
- 17:31Speaker 3: it was like, well, the average barber in New York
- 17:37Speaker 3: twenty five dollars, right, that's average.
- 17:40Speaker 5: Kids.
- 17:41Speaker 4: So I always wondered.
- 17:42Speaker 3: I always wondered, Like you and you're standing up all
- 17:45Speaker 3: day too, Yeah I got that, yeah, batting back. People
- 17:48Speaker 3: don't even realize that. So you're standing up all day
- 17:50Speaker 3: and you work on Saturdays, you work on Friday nights.
- 17:54Speaker 3: You don't really have a good schedule as a barber,
- 17:56Speaker 3: and you work nights a lot of times, and you're
- 17:58Speaker 3: not really making that much money if you think about, like,
- 18:00Speaker 3: even if you have fifteen. That's a lot because that's
- 18:03Speaker 3: like you know, it's like fifteen hours times that time
- 18:07Speaker 3: is twenty five.
- 18:07Speaker 4: That's not a lot of money.
- 18:08Speaker 6: Yeah, so you got to do that every day. Everybody's
- 18:10Speaker 6: going to cut every single day.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Yeah, you So now you transition to the units, I cannot.
- 18:17Speaker 7: I want to say something real, all right, So before
- 18:19Speaker 7: I was even doing units, I was I was cutting.
- 18:23Speaker 7: I was doing carecuts pretty much for about thirty thirty
- 18:25Speaker 7: five dollars ahead. Right, But and I told I was
- 18:28Speaker 7: all the time, you have to promote yourself and bring yourself.
- 18:31Speaker 7: I was already making six figures before I even started
- 18:33Speaker 7: doing any units because.
- 18:35Speaker 4: I was cutting all day. I was putt I wasn't lazy.
- 18:38Speaker 7: Literally, I'll be in there from eight o'clock to one, two,
- 18:40Speaker 7: three o'clock in the morning.
- 18:41Speaker 6: Now I'm saying I heard I heard this model the
- 18:43Speaker 6: other day shout out at MG. He was saying that
- 18:46Speaker 6: he got there's a special rate if you get it
- 18:48Speaker 6: after eight o'clock.
- 18:49Speaker 4: You do what I mean like that, I would do something.
- 18:51Speaker 4: I would do that sometimes.
- 18:52Speaker 6: So the twenty five dollar cut, if you got to
- 18:54Speaker 6: come like on a not thirty at night, like that's
- 18:57Speaker 6: going to cost you fifty yeah.
- 18:58Speaker 4: Yeah, but I also was heavy before of this too.
- 19:01Speaker 5: I know this.
- 19:01Speaker 7: I was also doing the Beijing Beijing huge in Atlanta.
- 19:06Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, Atlanta it was.
- 19:08Speaker 7: Yeah, but I'm saying it was. It was huge out
- 19:10Speaker 7: here too. I had a lot of people was getting
- 19:12Speaker 7: getting that. That's when when you embarrassing. And I had
- 19:18Speaker 7: I had mad clients that that that would tip because
- 19:21Speaker 7: I only do appointments, I wasn't doing walk in so
- 19:23Speaker 7: they would give me twenty dollars tips and stuff like that.
- 19:25Speaker 7: I mean, so at the end of the day, you know,
- 19:27Speaker 7: you add that up, you know, and so yeah, uh
- 19:30Speaker 7: and selling products because we got to think you got
- 19:34Speaker 7: to think about you know a lot of bobbers don't
- 19:36Speaker 7: uh sell their clients and product.
- 19:38Speaker 4: They trust you.
- 19:39Speaker 7: I come to you every week. I trust what you're
- 19:42Speaker 7: gonna tell me to buy for my head. Like so
- 19:44Speaker 7: you got dry scalp or shampoo, moisturizing palms, different stuff
- 19:48Speaker 7: like that, do rags, brushes? Yeah, people gonna buy from
- 19:51Speaker 7: you because you ain't bothered. I feel like it's convenient.
- 19:53Speaker 6: Everybody I think that I've encountered as only looked at
- 19:57Speaker 6: it as being a barber, like they never they're not
- 19:59Speaker 6: here specialists.
- 20:00Speaker 4: Both knife and that.
- 20:01Speaker 3: It's like a lot of from our businessmen, Like what
- 20:04Speaker 3: you said just makes so much sense, but it's not
- 20:07Speaker 3: times people don't think about. It's like, if I'm already,
- 20:09Speaker 3: if you're gonna come to me every single week to
- 20:10Speaker 3: get your haircut, why are you gonna go to CVS
- 20:12Speaker 3: to get shampoo? You might as well get your shampool
- 20:15Speaker 3: and your conditioner and your hair grease for me. I
- 20:18Speaker 3: buy a whole sale and I can make a profit
- 20:20Speaker 3: off of that. That's another income you've skilled. So he
- 20:22Speaker 3: was already making six figures as a barber, but then
- 20:25Speaker 3: you just realized it was just too much manual latest
- 20:28Speaker 3: for the amount of money was making.
- 20:29Speaker 7: I actually got to the point, man, well, I was
- 20:32Speaker 7: losing time with my family, Like I went through a
- 20:34Speaker 7: divorce and that stuff. And part of that we will
- 20:37Speaker 7: help break us up, was because I was always working.
- 20:40Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying.
- 20:41Speaker 7: My mother to this day has like she we working
- 20:44Speaker 7: on it, but she she was very upset with me
- 20:46Speaker 7: because I spent so much time working. I wasn't there
- 20:50Speaker 7: for her when she went through cancer like she wanted
- 20:51Speaker 7: me to. You know what, I'm saying, and so like
- 20:53Speaker 7: it's I spent a lot of time grinding, but at
- 20:56Speaker 7: the same time, like, Okay, I can't spend all day
- 21:00Speaker 7: at the shop, especially when you're gonna have a family,
- 21:02Speaker 7: you know, kids and all that stuff or whatever. So yeah,
- 21:06Speaker 7: the whole making more off of each person.
- 21:09Speaker 4: Is all right.
- 21:10Speaker 3: So now we're gonna go into the next We're gonna
- 21:12Speaker 3: talk about how you how you blew up and your
- 21:14Speaker 3: transition to where you are now for sure, man, all right,
- 21:17Speaker 3: so now we're gonna go into all right, so you
- 21:21Speaker 3: found out about the units, right, how'd you find out
- 21:24Speaker 3: about it?
- 21:25Speaker 4: Well from from the young lady.
- 21:27Speaker 7: But yeah, Britty, Yeah, shout out to Brittany man. She
- 21:32Speaker 7: actually just she just went and got her bottle's license.
- 21:35Speaker 7: She out here cutting down too. Hey, So no, but
- 21:40Speaker 7: uh so what happened was, you know, she gave me
- 21:44Speaker 7: some advice on some stuff. But then I had to
- 21:45Speaker 7: go and take a little class with a dude in
- 21:48Speaker 7: Atlanta named Nail Styles. So everybody couldn't get you know,
- 21:52Speaker 7: everybody couldn't get the sowing thing.
- 21:56Speaker 4: So I went and did the quick wea.
- 21:57Speaker 7: Version with him, and then I went to another lady
- 22:01Speaker 7: named Tony Love and learn her technique and different things
- 22:04Speaker 7: like that. So it's like, but then I had to
- 22:06Speaker 7: get back home and do a lot of trial and error,
- 22:08Speaker 7: like you know. So at the end of the day,
- 22:10Speaker 7: like I educated myself in different arenas for different things,
- 22:15Speaker 7: and then I kind of created my own out of that,
- 22:18Speaker 7: you know, And so that's how I kind of got
- 22:19Speaker 7: introduced to that whole world.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Okay, so all right, but what really blew you up
- 22:24Speaker 3: is that you you also a good marketer as well? Right,
- 22:26Speaker 3: So at what point because you had like one hundred
- 22:28Speaker 3: and forty thousand follows on Instagram? Yeah, I like that,
- 22:31Speaker 3: So all right, so you start to at all right,
- 22:33Speaker 3: so you start to implement it in your business. Can
- 22:35Speaker 3: you talk about that, like the beginning stages, Like what
- 22:37Speaker 3: was your marketing plan? Because now it's acceptable, but people
- 22:42Speaker 3: was kind of, I assume a little hesitant about that,
- 22:45Speaker 3: So like, what was your marketing plan as far as
- 22:47Speaker 3: like to get it out there?
- 22:48Speaker 7: Consistency is everything, you know, and I think that, you know,
- 22:52Speaker 7: when I first put it out there, Yeah, it was
- 22:54Speaker 7: talked about. But at the same time, there was a
- 22:56Speaker 7: lot of people like sliding in my dms, like Bro
- 22:59Speaker 7: what's that?
- 22:59Speaker 5: What do I get that?
- 23:00Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying, The wizard, the wizard of
- 23:03Speaker 7: anything you put, you present the people and keep it
- 23:06Speaker 7: in their in their for in their in their sight.
- 23:09Speaker 7: It becomes normalized after a while, you know what I'm saying.
- 23:11Speaker 7: You keep you keep putting it in front of them.
- 23:13Speaker 7: It's like, all right, you know it's not it's not
- 23:15Speaker 7: so bad. And over time it just was like, all right,
- 23:18Speaker 7: I'm gonna try it now. And so it's just something
- 23:22Speaker 7: that just kind.
- 23:22Speaker 4: Of grew for.
- 23:25Speaker 7: But but and also the like trying to just promote
- 23:28Speaker 7: and put quality work up, you know, so that I
- 23:30Speaker 7: mean consistency and having quality is going to bring value
- 23:33Speaker 7: to whatever you're doing.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Now, I love what you said because that's so true,
- 23:36Speaker 3: and people don't fully understand it. It's like, as long
- 23:40Speaker 3: as you're consistent, people will buy in.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Eventually. It happens all the time.
- 23:44Speaker 3: It's like even music, like you might not like a song,
- 23:46Speaker 3: but you hear it enough and it's not that bad
- 23:48Speaker 3: to you anymore. But food, you start to eat a
- 23:50Speaker 3: food enough and it's like okay, and it's like people
- 23:53Speaker 3: they always stay. They might laugh at it at first,
- 23:56Speaker 3: but now it's not funny anymore because it's like your
- 23:59Speaker 3: favorite celebrity got it.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's like.
- 24:01Speaker 6: That's what I was gonna say, is like there's a
- 24:03Speaker 6: certain connotation that comes with men that are doing this,
- 24:06Speaker 6: but we've been seeing all women doing this for years.
- 24:08Speaker 4: Well, I'm glad you said that.
- 24:10Speaker 3: It's two point five billion dollars was spent last year
- 24:14Speaker 3: on women's weaves, extensions and wigs for black women, just
- 24:19Speaker 3: black women, Black women, So two point five billion. It
- 24:21Speaker 3: might even be more than that, but it's a huge industry.
- 24:26Speaker 3: So to see it now on the men's side, and
- 24:27Speaker 3: they say, like almost I think sixty or seventy percent
- 24:31Speaker 3: of black men experienced some form of hair loss after
- 24:34Speaker 3: thirty something like that. So it's very common. It's common.
- 24:38Speaker 7: I mean I've got kids, man, I got people as
- 24:40Speaker 7: young as twelve years old, like losing alopecia, you know, whatever,
- 24:45Speaker 7: you know, different things, man, just happening.
- 24:48Speaker 4: It's a big thing.
- 24:49Speaker 3: So when did it take off for you, Like when
- 24:51Speaker 3: did you really start to hit your stride?
- 24:53Speaker 7: I would say last year, Like the beginning of last
- 24:57Speaker 7: year is eighteen, yeah, eighteen, it really it really took
- 25:00Speaker 7: off to the next level. It was like a gradual
- 25:05Speaker 7: you know, it was a gradual scale. But you know
- 25:08Speaker 7: last year was probably when it really went off. What
- 25:11Speaker 7: made it like really, I mean, I think the more
- 25:14Speaker 7: reposts I got, like whether it was world Star or
- 25:19Speaker 7: you know those those repost apps, I mean pages or whatever.
- 25:22Speaker 7: Then then when Vice News, HBO and all that happened,
- 25:27Speaker 7: it just went to that next level.
- 25:29Speaker 4: It was like, how did you get depressed? Like, how
- 25:31Speaker 4: did you did you pay for that? Actually? No, actually
- 25:36Speaker 4: I got a publishers after that.
- 25:38Speaker 7: But so from I guess the people from a Vice
- 25:41Speaker 7: they were looking for, you know, some new stories.
- 25:44Speaker 4: I don't know how they got me.
- 25:46Speaker 7: I think one of my guys in New York, John Cotton,
- 25:50Speaker 7: that said something to them. I'm not sure exactly who
- 25:52Speaker 7: or how it happened, but they were doing a story
- 25:56Speaker 7: on on the hair Units because they saw it on
- 25:58Speaker 7: online and so me being one of the pint is
- 26:01Speaker 7: for it, they hit me up and was like, hey, we.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Want to do this documentary on you.
- 26:05Speaker 6: Now, do you have to come up with a technique
- 26:07Speaker 6: to actually get this done right? I'm sure like when
- 26:09Speaker 6: you first tried, it was like, well that didn't work.
- 26:12Speaker 6: How long was the process before you like, you know what,
- 26:14Speaker 6: I've perfected this, ah, Man, I.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Mean I did.
- 26:18Speaker 7: I started about five years ago with this, so I
- 26:20Speaker 7: mean I'm really just getting to last three two to
- 26:24Speaker 7: three years. I'm actually just starting to get to the
- 26:27Speaker 7: point where I'm super confident with it because there's still
- 26:30Speaker 7: there were still a lot of unknowns. Even as I
- 26:32Speaker 7: was progressing and getting more popular for it, there were
- 26:34Speaker 7: still things. I'm like, you know, still trying to figure
- 26:38Speaker 7: it out, you know what I'm saying. And as a barber,
- 26:41Speaker 7: anybody will tell you, man, I don't care. You've been
- 26:43Speaker 7: growing and this is when you stop growing, that's what
- 26:46Speaker 7: you need to be scared. But as a barber, you
- 26:49Speaker 7: you learn different techniques all the time. You know, it's
- 26:52Speaker 7: different things all the time, and if you stop growing,
- 26:54Speaker 7: then it's a rap for you.
- 26:56Speaker 4: You know, to keep growing.
- 26:57Speaker 3: And what you say is just not even just just
- 27:00Speaker 3: in life in genera like any type of business, you
- 27:03Speaker 3: always have to sharpen your tool. This is a business podcast,
- 27:05Speaker 3: so it goes for anybody that's listening to. No matter
- 27:08Speaker 3: what profession you're in, you can never be complacent, Yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 3: because there's always new technology, there's always something new, and
- 27:14Speaker 3: this is a example. You gotta stay on point. But
- 27:18Speaker 3: also I want people to understand it's like see to
- 27:21Speaker 3: catch you headline that I think was black in parties,
- 27:23Speaker 3: like you made a half a million dollars last year
- 27:24Speaker 3: being doing man units, but that's not that doesn't tell
- 27:28Speaker 3: the whole story because you scaled the business.
- 27:30Speaker 4: So you teach classes? Yeah right, so can you talk
- 27:33Speaker 4: about that? Yeah? Yeah, so I do. I do classes.
- 27:37Speaker 7: I started doing the classes probably about a year after
- 27:39Speaker 7: I really started doing my first unit, because it was
- 27:42Speaker 7: once I was I was posting on social media and
- 27:45Speaker 7: people like, man, please teach me, teach me what you're doing,
- 27:47Speaker 7: you know, and I do my classes because there was
- 27:50Speaker 7: one particular person that was doing the units before me,
- 27:55Speaker 7: and they were, uh, they were doing pretty well with
- 27:57Speaker 7: them or whatever, but they would not teach me.
- 28:00Speaker 6: This episode is brought to you by P and C Bank.

- 30:10Speaker 1: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy Noman, the United States
- 30:14Speaker 1: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 30:19Speaker 1: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 30:22Speaker 1: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 30:25Speaker 1: are here illegally, your next you will be fine nearly
- 30:29Speaker 1: one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned and deported, you will
- 30:33Speaker 1: never return. But if you register using our CBP home
- 30:37Speaker 1: app and leave now, you could be allowed to return legally.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Do what's right. Leave now. Under President Trump, America's laws,
- 30:46Speaker 1: border and families will be.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Protected sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
- 30:52Speaker 7: And yeah, look, yeah, for whatever reason I asked twice
- 30:55Speaker 7: they they carried me. Was like no, So I'd stopped
- 30:57Speaker 7: doing the classes because I didn't want to. I didn't
- 30:59Speaker 7: want people here me up and I'm curving them and like, nah,
- 31:01Speaker 7: I'm not teaching you just because I'm trying to corner
- 31:04Speaker 7: the market. And I'm like, man, you can't be blessed
- 31:06Speaker 7: like that. So I'm like, man, anything I got, I'm
- 31:09Speaker 7: gonna share it. And when you I was listening to
- 31:11Speaker 7: doctor Morles Monrowe. I don't know if you guys know
- 31:13Speaker 7: who he is, but he's deceased now, but one of
- 31:15Speaker 7: the one of the best motivational speakers that ever lived.
- 31:19Speaker 4: I feel like, you know.
- 31:20Speaker 7: But anyway, he was talking about if you have a talent, man,
- 31:24Speaker 7: how many people have you cultivated? How many people have
- 31:27Speaker 7: you trained to be better than you? If not like you,
- 31:31Speaker 7: but better than you. You know what I'm saying, Like that,
- 31:33Speaker 7: that shows you, That shows your impact, you know. I man,
- 31:36Speaker 7: And I want to leave legacy, man, I don't want
- 31:38Speaker 7: to just be out He's he was a good barber
- 31:40Speaker 7: or he did good with them units, but now I
- 31:42Speaker 7: want to leave some people back. That's going to keep
- 31:44Speaker 7: this thing going, you know what I mean? So you
- 31:46Speaker 7: got to train people and cultivate other people. Man, I'm
- 31:49Speaker 7: not intimidated by other people's gifted, so I'm always want
- 31:53Speaker 7: to help other people to get to that next level
- 31:56Speaker 7: or go go further than me.
- 31:58Speaker 6: Like some of our guests. Man, that's a valuable lesson.
- 32:01Speaker 6: And being an entrepreneur is how do you replicate yourself? Yeah,
- 32:04Speaker 6: you got the quicker, you can do that, then the
- 32:05Speaker 6: quicker you can scale well.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Also, we just had an episode we talked about multiple
- 32:09Speaker 3: streams of income and we were saying that a lot
- 32:11Speaker 3: of the misconception of a lot of people is that
- 32:13Speaker 3: they think they need seven different occupations, are seven different
- 32:16Speaker 3: businesses to create seven streams of income. But it's like
- 32:20Speaker 3: we always say, you don't really need you just need
- 32:22Speaker 3: one thing that you do really well and then branches
- 32:24Speaker 3: off of that. So so it's like for you and
- 32:27Speaker 3: correct me if I'm wrong. So like you got the
- 32:28Speaker 3: you got the barbershop, right, that's like where it all
- 32:32Speaker 3: started at.
- 32:33Speaker 4: So that's it. That's always going to be the stream
- 32:34Speaker 4: of income. And then you have.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Now you have multiple barbershops, so you get paid from
- 32:39Speaker 3: barbers that and your shop. Right, So that's that's two
- 32:42Speaker 3: streams of income. The barbershop, you're getting paid for the
- 32:44Speaker 3: barbers you you actually cut here and put in the
- 32:47Speaker 3: unit yourself, right. But now you teach classes. So that's four.
- 32:52Speaker 3: You wrote a book, that's five.
- 32:54Speaker 5: Don't forget the products. Products that's six, because that's crazy.
- 32:57Speaker 6: Right like if you if you think about it, right,
- 32:59Speaker 6: like you're actually putting the products in that you have
- 33:02Speaker 6: to use to keep the upkeep on the units.
- 33:04Speaker 4: And then you actually the people that you train.
- 33:07Speaker 3: You said, you send clients to them sometimes then you
- 33:10Speaker 3: get a commission off for that.
- 33:11Speaker 4: So that's seven streams.
- 33:12Speaker 6: Oh there's another one because you have relationships with brains.
- 33:15Speaker 6: Yeahlationships with Walmart.
- 33:19Speaker 5: Yeah, there's another stream.
- 33:21Speaker 4: But it all comes back to one thing, you know
- 33:25Speaker 4: what I mean.
- 33:25Speaker 5: Forgot about that?
- 33:26Speaker 4: Yeah, so can we talk about that? The brand partnerships?
- 33:31Speaker 4: How did that come about?
- 33:32Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 33:32Speaker 7: Honestly, man, there was and this is about you know,
- 33:36Speaker 7: just you being a brand people just I met people.
- 33:40Speaker 7: There was one guy named Lamar he uh you know,
- 33:43Speaker 7: he has those relationships with Walmart and he was like, bro,
- 33:46Speaker 7: you know, I'm gonna connect you with these people. And
- 33:48Speaker 7: they saw what I was doing and they was like, oh,
- 33:50Speaker 7: we love them. You know, we love your presentation online.
- 33:53Speaker 7: You know, we want you to work with us, and
- 33:55Speaker 7: so being professional, like trying to be professional when like
- 33:58Speaker 7: that first initial time that I worked with Walmart, you know,
- 34:01Speaker 7: they loved my vibe, they loved you know, what I
- 34:03Speaker 7: was doing. I try to be professional, uh, you know,
- 34:07Speaker 7: present represent you know, the correct way, and they just
- 34:10Speaker 7: kept hiring me, and then it just branched off to
- 34:12Speaker 7: other things.
- 34:12Speaker 4: And then so.
- 34:13Speaker 7: You you promote one product, other people other products and
- 34:16Speaker 7: sponsors of seeing you online too, they're like, oh, we
- 34:18Speaker 7: want you to help.
- 34:19Speaker 5: You know, people want to spend with people money.
- 34:22Speaker 3: But that's what I love about social media too. It's
- 34:24Speaker 3: like before social media, celebrities were only musicians and actors
- 34:31Speaker 3: and you know celebrities, yeah, athletes, things of that nature.
- 34:35Speaker 3: But now you could be a celebrity barber, you could
- 34:38Speaker 3: be a celebrity teacher, you could be a celebrity real
- 34:40Speaker 3: estate broker.
- 34:41Speaker 5: You can even be a celebrity podcaster.
- 34:45Speaker 3: No it's not but no, but it's because it's like
- 34:47Speaker 3: now brands will pay you to post on social media
- 34:50Speaker 3: and you can do ad campaigns and it's like that
- 34:53Speaker 3: would have never happened before the power of social media.
- 34:56Speaker 3: So I always say social media is like the great
- 34:57Speaker 3: equalizer and if you properly has a lot of power.
- 35:02Speaker 4: It does has a lot of power.
- 35:03Speaker 5: I know.
- 35:04Speaker 7: I know my brand is not It is only where
- 35:06Speaker 7: it is because of God and social media. Honestly, like real,
- 35:11Speaker 7: I mean you you can make a post and people
- 35:13Speaker 7: all over the world can see the joint, like in
- 35:14Speaker 7: a matter of minutes.
- 35:15Speaker 4: So it's like, man, like what better can you get?
- 35:19Speaker 5: Like you know what I'm saying.
- 35:20Speaker 6: One of the things you talk about, especially in Brandon,
- 35:22Speaker 6: is changing the terminology of the haircare industry, right, so
- 35:25Speaker 6: like and you know when we talk, it's like, yo,
- 35:27Speaker 6: your weight got pushed back.
- 35:28Speaker 5: Right like like you you're.
- 35:30Speaker 6: Saying, like, yo is the area of recession even the
- 35:34Speaker 6: CREATI piece, Like, is that a conscious effort that you
- 35:36Speaker 6: made to change the stigma?
- 35:38Speaker 4: Yeah? I had to.
- 35:39Speaker 7: I have to because I mean people, and I tell
- 35:41Speaker 7: people even in my classes, because your terminology and what
- 35:45Speaker 7: you call something can turn personal off or it can
- 35:47Speaker 7: put it oil.
- 35:47Speaker 4: It can be like oh yeah, that's cool, you know
- 35:49Speaker 4: what I mean?
- 35:50Speaker 7: So I think you know how we how we represent
- 35:52Speaker 7: things and how we talk about it is big.
- 35:55Speaker 5: You know.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Uh, we are visual people. We are people that you know.
- 35:58Speaker 7: Uh, the way you talk about something, you know, it
- 36:01Speaker 7: gets in it gets in your in your in your soul,
- 36:03Speaker 7: it gets in your spirit for real, and you know
- 36:06Speaker 7: how we represent it, I think is everything.
- 36:09Speaker 4: You know.
- 36:09Speaker 3: No, that's not something that I learned early on. I'm
- 36:11Speaker 3: a financial advisor, and like even early on we're going
- 36:14Speaker 3: to different sales classes and stuff like that, I learned
- 36:16Speaker 3: that language is extremely important.
- 36:19Speaker 4: It's extremely important.
- 36:21Speaker 3: So like a lot of times, like you'll say, like
- 36:23Speaker 3: let's say one product is one hundred dollars, another product
- 36:27Speaker 3: is fifty dollars, right, instead of saying this one is
- 36:30Speaker 3: more expensive, it's richer, you.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Say it's richer. Rich people want to be rich.
- 36:38Speaker 3: By saying it's richer, it makes it seem like it
- 36:41Speaker 3: has a higher quality, and now you're more enthused to
- 36:44Speaker 3: pay for one hundred dollars instead of fifty. But if
- 36:46Speaker 3: I said this is more expensive, of course you're gonna
- 36:48Speaker 3: go with the cheap item. But naturally, training so it's
- 36:50Speaker 3: very true. And that's another that's another business gym for
- 36:53Speaker 3: people to understand. It's like, be careful how you speak,
- 36:57Speaker 3: and be careful how you describe things, because like you
- 36:59Speaker 3: can reer league to sell anything.
- 37:01Speaker 4: If you if you describe it correctly.
- 37:04Speaker 5: You know what I mean.
- 37:04Speaker 3: It's it's all about in the wording. So but one thing.
- 37:06Speaker 3: We're gonna go into the next the last sement. But
- 37:08Speaker 3: before we do, I wanted to ask you a question
- 37:11Speaker 3: because I see this now a lot of barbers are
- 37:12Speaker 3: following this trend where I looked on your your link
- 37:14Speaker 3: tree and it's like you only work by appointments.
- 37:18Speaker 4: Right, that's all. I don't got time for walking man
- 37:20Speaker 4: for the nonsense, right, So.
- 37:23Speaker 5: You're not trying to talk about who the best basketball
- 37:25Speaker 5: player is? All business?
- 37:27Speaker 4: Nah, Yeah, I got things.
- 37:28Speaker 5: To worry about.
- 37:29Speaker 4: I'm glad.
- 37:29Speaker 3: I'm glad barbers really start to implement that, and I
- 37:32Speaker 3: hope more do because it sets it sets a professional trend. Right,
- 37:38Speaker 3: And can you talk about that like how because now
- 37:40Speaker 3: even people, I'm sure they'll look at you different, they'll
- 37:43Speaker 3: respect your talk because people come late, people, they do
- 37:45Speaker 3: all kinds of stuff.
- 37:46Speaker 6: You know, I really see it as a benefit obviously
- 37:49Speaker 6: being well, I got my own hand now, right. But
- 37:52Speaker 6: having children and having to sit around and wait, Yeah,
- 37:55Speaker 6: there's nothing like you got a four year old and
- 37:57Speaker 6: you got to wait six people before you get a care.
- 38:00Speaker 5: We're done.
- 38:01Speaker 3: He's in your I only I only go Thursday night
- 38:04Speaker 3: o'clock shout to my bubs. I can't play. I can't
- 38:07Speaker 3: play a game. I don't have time to hear you
- 38:09Speaker 3: lying on Saturday morning about.
- 38:14Speaker 4: He came before you. I used to do that.
- 38:16Speaker 3: It's like you lose track of who came first, and
- 38:19Speaker 3: then it's just like a whole bunch of war stories.
- 38:22Speaker 4: It's like coming with one hundred dollars all, I'm gonna
- 38:24Speaker 4: let you in front. Yeah.
- 38:26Speaker 3: So, so when did you realize that you had to
- 38:28Speaker 3: structure and run your business like a business, not just
- 38:32Speaker 3: like a side hustle type.
- 38:34Speaker 4: I'm not even gonna hold you, bro.
- 38:35Speaker 7: When I first started and got out of Borer School,
- 38:38Speaker 7: I experienced where I was doing some walk ins and
- 38:40Speaker 7: stuff like that, and I hated the fact that people
- 38:43Speaker 7: was jangling keys because I'm you know, doing they was
- 38:46Speaker 7: jittery because they waited too long and stuff that make.
- 38:49Speaker 4: My nerves back. I came.
- 38:53Speaker 7: It like, yeah, exactly, so I was like.
- 38:57Speaker 4: Man, you know what, I'm about to do this appointment thing.
- 38:59Speaker 7: It maybe I may have been out of barber school
- 39:02Speaker 7: maybe two three months, and I was like, yeah, I'm
- 39:04Speaker 7: gonna do the appointment thing, and I started just having
- 39:07Speaker 7: people eat. I first started with the book because all
- 39:09Speaker 7: these booking apps were out back then, and so I
- 39:11Speaker 7: started with like, just the schedule book, y'all make your appointments.
- 39:14Speaker 4: That's not that's that or whatever. Then we did the
- 39:17Speaker 4: I think disling was the next thing that I went on.
- 39:20Speaker 7: But it set it just helped so much. People was
- 39:23Speaker 7: texting me like they could just go on the line
- 39:26Speaker 7: online and just make their appointment. But then, you you know,
- 39:28Speaker 7: at that time, it was a lot of people that
- 39:30Speaker 7: was like, oh no, I ain't trying to do that,
- 39:32Speaker 7: like I'm gonna just call you, let me just text you.
- 39:34Speaker 4: They ain't want to go through them.
- 39:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:37Speaker 7: So but now it's getting to the point where a
- 39:39Speaker 7: lot of people, a lot of barbers are doing it,
- 39:41Speaker 7: and it's just it sets you apart.
- 39:42Speaker 4: Man.
- 39:42Speaker 7: It's professional. You don't have to have people texting you
- 39:45Speaker 7: all times of the night. People just going your on
- 39:47Speaker 7: your website and just book whatever's open and they paid
- 39:50Speaker 7: before him, and they paid they.
- 39:51Speaker 4: Put a credit card. Yeah yeah, put a card easier beforehand.
- 39:55Speaker 5: It tells you the tip and everything exactly.
- 39:57Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying.
- 39:58Speaker 7: And it's it's you know, professionalism is going to set
- 40:02Speaker 7: you apart, you know, from being the regular you know
- 40:06Speaker 7: barber from around the way and you going to that
- 40:08Speaker 7: next level.
- 40:09Speaker 3: So it's like going to the dentist. You just don't
- 40:11Speaker 3: randomly go to the dentist. You gotta make you gotta
- 40:13Speaker 3: make a point.
- 40:14Speaker 5: Just sit around.
- 40:16Speaker 3: Yeah, if you do, you know, be sitting there for
- 40:17Speaker 3: ten hours. I'll get to you when I get to you,
- 40:21Speaker 3: all right. So in the last time, we're gonna talk
- 40:22Speaker 3: about scaling and where we go from here Toune twenty.
- 40:28Speaker 5: Two Legacy Show.
- 40:31Speaker 3: All right, So where do we go from here? Like
- 40:33Speaker 3: what's the scaling because that's another thing too.
- 40:35Speaker 4: It's like.
- 40:37Speaker 3: You've you've created multiple streams of income, you've elevated yourself,
- 40:41Speaker 3: but not the next step in any business has to
- 40:44Speaker 3: be how do you, like, how do you expand it?
- 40:45Speaker 5: Right?
- 40:45Speaker 3: Because it's never a thing where you can be complacent
- 40:48Speaker 3: in business. So what's the what's the scaling model for you?
- 40:51Speaker 3: Moving forward?
- 40:52Speaker 7: Well now it's more so like im like I'm doing
- 40:55Speaker 7: the Atlanta location, you know, and building shops that you know,
- 41:02Speaker 7: we're not doing the more bouffrint shops, but yeah, just building,
- 41:05Speaker 7: having locations.
- 41:06Speaker 4: And commission commissions, commission shops.
- 41:08Speaker 7: Yeah, and also just building building the brand and not
- 41:13Speaker 7: just being a Maryland thing, but different regions, different countries, different.
- 41:19Speaker 6: Did you choose Atlanta intentionally? I feel like that is
- 41:22Speaker 6: like the hub of black haircares.
- 41:23Speaker 7: Right, So I went off of where my my big
- 41:26Speaker 7: markets are. So Atlanta is a big one for me.
- 41:29Speaker 7: New York is a big one for me, and then
- 41:32Speaker 7: you know, I plan to go to l A, Houston,
- 41:34Speaker 7: different different places like that. So being strategic and where
- 41:39Speaker 7: I placed it, understanding my markets, you know what I mean.
- 41:43Speaker 4: So that's why Atlanta.
- 41:46Speaker 6: That's why you have the master class, right, So that's
- 41:49Speaker 6: the one way that you're also scaling.
- 41:50Speaker 5: It says that you have over five hundred students. How
- 41:52Speaker 5: does that work? Do they come to Atlanta, do they
- 41:55Speaker 5: come to d C And well what happens?
- 41:57Speaker 4: So it depends. Most of my classes are in the DMV,
- 42:01Speaker 4: but I do tours here and there. I'm working.
- 42:03Speaker 7: I'm working on my twenty twenty tour right now. I
- 42:05Speaker 7: did one this year. In twenty nineteen. I went to Barbados,
- 42:10Speaker 7: I went to Canada, I went to Man every pretty
- 42:14Speaker 7: much I went. I was in Georgia, I was in
- 42:16Speaker 7: New York, Ohio, Chicago, different places like.
- 42:21Speaker 4: That, you know what I mean.
- 42:22Speaker 7: And so just set the tour out, I mean, set
- 42:25Speaker 7: the dayta out and people just like, you know, they
- 42:26Speaker 7: sign up and then we're there Florida, the Florida as well.
- 42:29Speaker 5: What happened? So when we get there, what we're seeing?
- 42:31Speaker 5: Are you like?
- 42:33Speaker 7: So I do a lecture and talk about you know,
- 42:37Speaker 7: it's because it's different terms of different things.
- 42:39Speaker 4: Insurance options.
- 42:40Speaker 7: So people if somebody wanted to savings, you wanted to
- 42:43Speaker 7: get one, you want to get one, but you want
- 42:45Speaker 7: to use your insurance.
- 42:46Speaker 4: To get it.
- 42:46Speaker 7: I teach people how to accept insurance, how to do that,
- 42:49Speaker 7: that type of thing.
- 42:51Speaker 4: Health insurance, Yeah wow, because it's health insurance.
- 42:55Speaker 7: Some people's playing covered. So everybody that's I have like halopecia,
- 42:59Speaker 7: Yeah yeah you had, Yeah, because it's alopecia, alopecia cancer
- 43:04Speaker 7: or something you know, like a sickness that caused you
- 43:06Speaker 7: to lose What is alopecia.
- 43:08Speaker 4: So it's when people lose their hair. So it's different.
- 43:11Speaker 4: It's different.
- 43:12Speaker 7: Yeah, it's hair loss, but it's like different types of alopecia.
- 43:14Speaker 7: You have scarring alopecia where they leaves, scars alopecia areata
- 43:18Speaker 7: was like in different spots spots, right, Yeah, so it's different,
- 43:23Speaker 7: it's different types.
- 43:24Speaker 6: I wasn't even thinking about that, yeah, from a healthcare standpoint, like, yeah, yeah.
- 43:29Speaker 7: So I deal with that, and I actually do live
- 43:31Speaker 7: models where I showed them how to put the piece on. Uh,
- 43:35Speaker 7: make summer units. We make some of the units in class. Man,
- 43:40Speaker 7: it covers a lot, man, and a lot of a
- 43:41Speaker 7: lot of one day. In one day, it's like a
- 43:43Speaker 7: sixty seven hour class. A lot of people be like, Man,
- 43:46Speaker 7: that's the best class I ever I ever taken. So,
- 43:48Speaker 7: I mean that's cool, you know for me.
- 43:50Speaker 6: And one of the things that these these units do
- 43:53Speaker 6: obviously you know, it's a transformative.
- 43:55Speaker 5: Look. But the testimonials that I saw, Man, how to
- 44:01Speaker 5: talk to us about that?
- 44:02Speaker 7: Man, No, it's it's literally you know, because I not
- 44:04Speaker 7: only do men, but I also do women.
- 44:06Speaker 4: I'd be having brothers about to tear up, you know,
- 44:08Speaker 4: I be like, man, I ain't seen my hair since
- 44:10Speaker 4: I was.
- 44:10Speaker 7: Sixteen, like you know, and our wives even coming sending
- 44:15Speaker 7: me messages. Man, you know, thank you because my husband
- 44:19Speaker 7: had PTSD and was depressed for a long time. And
- 44:22Speaker 7: now because he has hair, his confidences has gone up.
- 44:25Speaker 7: And now he's taking me out on dates like you know,
- 44:27Speaker 7: thank you because he cheats me better now, you know
- 44:29Speaker 7: what I mean. Different stuff like that one lady h
- 44:31Speaker 7: the other week. I think she had cancer or something.
- 44:34Speaker 7: She didn't tell me exactly what it was going on,
- 44:35Speaker 7: but I know it was something. And she she got
- 44:38Speaker 7: her unit done and started crying, man, like she had
- 44:41Speaker 7: me tearing up.
- 44:41Speaker 4: I was like, bro, this is crazy.
- 44:43Speaker 7: Like she was like this is the most beautiful I
- 44:45Speaker 7: ever felt in my life, you know what I mean,
- 44:47Speaker 7: her daughter like like you know, like the heaven cry
- 44:50Speaker 7: likely you know what I'm saying Like this, yeah, I'm like,
- 44:52Speaker 7: oh man, you got it's crazy. But you know it's
- 44:56Speaker 7: lives that are impacted, you know from this just from
- 45:00Speaker 7: haven't hair. Man, the hair is a big thing a
- 45:02Speaker 7: lot of people, you know what I'm saying. And so
- 45:04Speaker 7: being able to you know, fulfill my purpose. Man, It's
- 45:06Speaker 7: like so fulfilling and even when I'm like talking to
- 45:09Speaker 7: other barbers and just people just in general, like cause
- 45:11Speaker 7: as people that be like, man, I'm watching what you're doing.
- 45:14Speaker 7: You're inspiring, you're motivating me. That's the fuel that I
- 45:16Speaker 7: that keep me going because people like man, you you
- 45:19Speaker 7: know you you never sit still. But it's like I
- 45:21Speaker 7: can't because there's so many lives and so many people
- 45:23Speaker 7: that's being touched, you know, and I just want to
- 45:25Speaker 7: I won't make my impact while I'm here, man, Like,
- 45:28Speaker 7: I gotta make sure I do all I can while
- 45:31Speaker 7: I'm still living. I don't want to be just wasting
- 45:33Speaker 7: time and just be you know. I take time for
- 45:34Speaker 7: myself too, though, you know, I take vacations, I travel
- 45:37Speaker 7: a lot, Like I.
- 45:38Speaker 4: Just came back from Israel's, like I was in China
- 45:41Speaker 4: the other week. Like That's what I'm saying.
- 45:42Speaker 5: Is that something you had to learn because obviously you
- 45:44Speaker 5: said in the past.
- 45:45Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure. For sure.
- 45:47Speaker 7: These last couple of years, man, I've been I've been
- 45:49Speaker 7: learning that and I just stopped a little bit. But
- 45:51Speaker 7: for this pretty much this whole year, I was taking
- 45:54Speaker 7: the one week off every month, you know, just to
- 45:56Speaker 7: kind of give my give myself that balance, you know,
- 45:59Speaker 7: just to wusaw, whether it's taking a trip for a
- 46:02Speaker 7: couple of days, come right back, like you know what
- 46:04Speaker 7: I mean, Just go sit on the beach, relax, different
- 46:06Speaker 7: things like that.
- 46:07Speaker 3: You know, let me ask you. So, all right, so
- 46:09Speaker 3: how does the commission system work? Like it's like twenty
- 46:11Speaker 3: percent for every single person that walks in the door.
- 46:13Speaker 7: It's whatever percentage you make it. Now, don't don't rape
- 46:16Speaker 7: the people, man.
- 46:17Speaker 4: You can't. What's the fair what's a fair percentage?
- 46:19Speaker 7: It depends on the barb well, because it depends on
- 46:23Speaker 7: how much your price levels are so safe things is
- 46:26Speaker 7: like if and a lot of times, if you're gonna
- 46:30Speaker 7: do commission, you need to provide the people with the
- 46:32Speaker 7: products too. So if I say things, if I'm do
- 46:35Speaker 7: fifty to fifty, I'm gonna provide you with the hair,
- 46:37Speaker 7: I'm gonna provide you with the products that you need
- 46:39Speaker 7: to carry it out. You just you winning at that
- 46:41Speaker 7: point because I'm giving you clients, you know what I mean,
- 46:44Speaker 7: even these these like bubbles and hair cuttery and you
- 46:48Speaker 7: know those those type of salons and barbershops like that.
- 46:51Speaker 4: Even what's the what's the one God? I forgot it.
- 46:55Speaker 7: But anyway, there's a lot of shops that do that,
- 46:57Speaker 7: those change shops.
- 46:58Speaker 4: They all are like commission based. But that's how they're
- 47:00Speaker 4: able to sustain it. Like what's the big one, Supercuts? Yeah,
- 47:03Speaker 4: you got Supercuts.
- 47:04Speaker 7: God it's another joint I forgot about. But anyway, yeah, man,
- 47:09Speaker 7: that's that's how they're able to keep those models going.
- 47:12Speaker 7: And they have franchise now, they have different locations all
- 47:15Speaker 7: over the world because they're doing that, you know, And
- 47:18Speaker 7: it's just now. I will say a lot of barbers are,
- 47:21Speaker 7: especially in our community, tend to shy away from commission
- 47:24Speaker 7: because it's more responsibility on your end, now, you know,
- 47:27Speaker 7: but as opposed to just coming and showing up collecting
- 47:29Speaker 7: boufrint No.
- 47:30Speaker 4: But now you got to do some stuff.
- 47:31Speaker 7: You got to promote, you got to provide the product,
- 47:34Speaker 7: and in some cases you got to pay their taxes
- 47:36Speaker 7: for them because now their employees depending on how you
- 47:38Speaker 7: set it up, you know what I mean.
- 47:40Speaker 5: But when you say provide the product, I mean it's
- 47:43Speaker 5: your product.
- 47:43Speaker 7: Yeah, so whether I'm providing the hair, the adhesives that's
- 47:47Speaker 7: needed for it.
- 47:48Speaker 5: But you have your own hair like you make it.
- 47:52Speaker 7: Is it like because I know some of them are
- 47:53Speaker 7: some of them make myself, but yeah, I have. That's
- 47:56Speaker 7: a whole that I use and stuff like that. But yeah,
- 48:01Speaker 7: for sure I was.
- 48:01Speaker 6: I was there because like vendors. I know a lot
- 48:03Speaker 6: of people get their hair from vendors. Now, you said
- 48:05Speaker 6: the units cost between two hundred to six hundred.
- 48:09Speaker 5: Dollars, right, but average, yeah, average, right, But there's another
- 48:12Speaker 5: course to the maintenance part of it.
- 48:14Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I think people don't.
- 48:15Speaker 5: Know about that.
- 48:16Speaker 4: So it depends on which unit you have. So there
- 48:19Speaker 4: there's levels to it.
- 48:20Speaker 5: Man.
- 48:20Speaker 4: But if you got the.
- 48:23Speaker 7: The one to two month unit, you know, the maintenance
- 48:25Speaker 7: could range from fifty towo one hundred dollars or so.
- 48:28Speaker 7: But then if you're doing the three to four month unit,
- 48:31Speaker 7: you got the maintenances. Usually I charged anywhere from two
- 48:33Speaker 7: to two fifty so, and that you come every once
- 48:37Speaker 7: a month or uh there's some people that just come
- 48:40Speaker 7: once every two months.
- 48:41Speaker 4: That depends, you.
- 48:42Speaker 5: Know, and you're still getting cuts while you have it.
- 48:44Speaker 4: Right, yeah, yeah, you can still getting cuts.
- 48:45Speaker 7: Yeah, But so I'm at the point now I can't
- 48:47Speaker 7: really cut everybody that comes and get the unit, so
- 48:50Speaker 7: I send them to my barbers or I send them
- 48:53Speaker 7: out to the people in my network because a lot
- 48:54Speaker 7: of people fly in to come get this service. Says
- 48:57Speaker 7: it's like like last week, I had people from Chicago,
- 49:00Speaker 7: from South Carolina, Canada, different.
- 49:03Speaker 4: Places like that.
- 49:03Speaker 7: So that's why I try to build a network so
- 49:06Speaker 7: big that I have people that I've taught in different states,
- 49:09Speaker 7: in different cities.
- 49:10Speaker 3: So like supercuts and all that. I just thought about something.
- 49:13Speaker 3: They're charging commission or even you you're charging commission, how
- 49:15Speaker 3: do you track who's how many people coming in? Like
- 49:18Speaker 3: you're not there every cameras, receptionists, a receptionist, okay, a
- 49:24Speaker 3: lot of business. That's why it's more on your end
- 49:27Speaker 3: that you got. It's more responsibility, that makes sense, receptionists.
- 49:30Speaker 3: So now you're running like a real business. They checked,
- 49:32Speaker 3: they come in, they check in. There's a book log
- 49:35Speaker 3: of who came in, what they got done, So we're
- 49:37Speaker 3: not just winging it.
- 49:38Speaker 4: Like you can't just be like, oh yeah, bro, I
- 49:41Speaker 4: only cut five, but they cut in. Yeah, yeah, we.
- 49:44Speaker 5: Got the camera on you. Yeah.
- 49:48Speaker 3: Interesting, okay, And that's do you think that that's the
- 49:51Speaker 3: business model moving forward for barbers to really.
- 49:53Speaker 4: Be successful, barbers shop owner owner be successful? Yes, and it's.
- 49:57Speaker 7: Good for people that's just starting off and they don't
- 50:00Speaker 7: have a lot of clientele. Now, a lot of people
- 50:01Speaker 7: are established, like a lot of barbers and stars that
- 50:03Speaker 7: are established already. They ain't going to no commissioned situation
- 50:06Speaker 7: because they feel like you're gonna take all their money.
- 50:09Speaker 7: But somebody that's trying to build and uh and grow,
- 50:12Speaker 7: you know, that's a perfect situation because you don't have
- 50:15Speaker 7: to you know, pretty much me getting you clients. I'm
- 50:18Speaker 7: gonna feed you pretty much, and I'm providing client and
- 50:22Speaker 7: the training for you.
- 50:23Speaker 5: You know.
- 50:24Speaker 7: So can you go swimming with these units the three
- 50:26Speaker 7: to four month young ones actually one of the one
- 50:28Speaker 7: or two ones you can as well them two to
- 50:31Speaker 7: four week units.
- 50:37Speaker 5: Nah, so you get what you paid for, Yeah, for sure.
- 50:40Speaker 7: But then it's like saying, this is the thing I
- 50:43Speaker 7: try to tell you, even even because it looks like
- 50:45Speaker 7: it's yours.
- 50:46Speaker 4: It's not.
- 50:47Speaker 7: The thing is if you keep up with the maintenance,
- 50:49Speaker 7: you find. But there's some people that do not keep
- 50:52Speaker 7: up with the maintenance. And so if it's if it's
- 50:55Speaker 7: already lifting a little bit before you get in that water,
- 50:57Speaker 7: I would say, just.
- 50:59Speaker 4: Let me, let me ask, just do it.
- 51:03Speaker 3: For barbers black barber specifically, is anyway because is any
- 51:08Speaker 3: way for them to kind of make the money that
- 51:09Speaker 3: you make without doing the units? Like, can you make
- 51:11Speaker 3: that kind of money just being a regular barbershop owner?
- 51:15Speaker 4: No?
- 51:16Speaker 3: Probably not owner. Possibly yes, if you have like a
- 51:19Speaker 3: lot of different locations.
- 51:20Speaker 5: Lations.
- 51:20Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's hard. You're just a barber.
- 51:23Speaker 7: No, you need to have a hot some type of
- 51:25Speaker 7: hot ticket price it don something.
- 51:27Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you gotta it, can't be it gotta be
- 51:29Speaker 3: more than forty dollars.
- 51:30Speaker 7: Yeah, you twenty five forty dollars that the hotel is
- 51:33Speaker 7: not gonna be. Now, you can make six figures, but
- 51:36Speaker 7: not multiple six figs.
- 51:38Speaker 4: Low six figures, yeah, seven hundred thousand. Yeah.
- 51:43Speaker 3: Okay, So this this is the way. This, this is
- 51:46Speaker 3: the business model moving forward.
- 51:47Speaker 5: You gotta get into this.
- 51:48Speaker 4: You gotta get it. They gotta get into it.
- 51:49Speaker 5: They'll figure out. They gotta taket class.
- 51:51Speaker 4: They do. Hey, shameous blood.
- 51:55Speaker 6: We only try to help out. We only try to
- 51:57Speaker 6: help alumni. So if y'all see me out there with
- 51:59Speaker 6: a with a unit, I don't want you to laugh.
- 52:01Speaker 6: Just know that way, did it?
- 52:04Speaker 5: All?
- 52:04Speaker 4: Right?
- 52:04Speaker 3: So, yeah, when you said previously I don't know where
- 52:07Speaker 3: I thought about this question just came out of nowhere.
- 52:09Speaker 3: But you said, you said previously that it was two
- 52:12Speaker 3: business models. But there's a membership model. We can talk
- 52:15Speaker 3: about that. The membership model. So people pay a.
- 52:19Speaker 4: Monthly membership to be a part of my network.
- 52:22Speaker 7: So you can either be a part of the network
- 52:24Speaker 7: where I send you clients, or you can be a
- 52:26Speaker 7: part of my mentorship. So it's two different prices for that.
- 52:29Speaker 7: And then there's a fee when I actually send you
- 52:33Speaker 7: a client. I get paid off the first visit. I
- 52:35Speaker 7: don't take.
- 52:36Speaker 4: I don't try to be greedy.
- 52:37Speaker 7: I only pay you only pay me the first visit
- 52:40Speaker 7: that I send you. Safe instance, I send you you know,
- 52:42Speaker 7: you go to and they give me fifty percent of
- 52:45Speaker 7: the service that one time.
- 52:47Speaker 4: But now that's your client forever, you know.
- 52:49Speaker 7: I mean it's a good test. I mean it's a
- 52:50Speaker 7: test trial, right because what if I didn't like it?
- 52:52Speaker 7: If you didn't like it, then isn't that their name
- 52:54Speaker 7: is on thee Yeah? Facts, fact facts I've had. I've
- 52:57Speaker 7: had that happen once so far.
- 52:59Speaker 4: Yeah to barbership.
- 53:00Speaker 3: I always have memberships like gyms, like can you be
- 53:02Speaker 3: like I thought that's interesting.
- 53:04Speaker 5: There Without car wash, it was like, yeah.
- 53:06Speaker 3: I'm on a subscription for my car wash, but like
- 53:08Speaker 3: I pay like forty dollars and I can go like
- 53:10Speaker 3: anytime I want that, Yeah I have do they have?
- 53:13Speaker 3: Like you pay five hundred dollars, but you can get
- 53:15Speaker 3: as many haircuts as you want.
- 53:16Speaker 4: There are some people that do that. How you talk
- 53:18Speaker 4: about that because they abuse it.
- 53:19Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm in there every other day, and it's like
- 53:22Speaker 7: I don't know where I'm gonna be at the rest
- 53:25Speaker 7: of the time, Like I don't even know like next week,
- 53:27Speaker 7: I could get a car.
- 53:28Speaker 4: I gotta go somewhere.
- 53:29Speaker 7: I don't like now my clients and know what I do. Also,
- 53:32Speaker 7: in order to sit, they pay a deposit. So if
- 53:35Speaker 7: the service is six fifty, the client is paying like
- 53:41Speaker 7: two sixty deposit before they even show up.
- 53:44Speaker 4: So I ain't gonna lie.
- 53:45Speaker 7: That does kind of lock me in, so I have
- 53:48Speaker 7: to plan my life, yeah, ahead of time, Like what
- 53:51Speaker 7: long is it?
- 53:52Speaker 5: How long does it take to get it done?
- 53:55Speaker 4: So it takes me about an hour to hour and
- 53:56Speaker 4: a half each.
- 53:57Speaker 5: It's typical just because you're a massive.
- 53:59Speaker 7: Well because when I first started, it was like three hours.
- 54:02Speaker 7: But now because I'm so used to doing it. Yeah,
- 54:04Speaker 7: it's about an hour an hour and a half.
- 54:06Speaker 3: How many days and how many days a week do
- 54:07Speaker 3: you cut? I mean, I mean not cut, but you
- 54:10Speaker 3: can only cut one.
- 54:11Speaker 4: Day, only cut Fridays. But how many ways do you do? Units?
- 54:14Speaker 7: So sometimes on Mondays, but mostly just Tuesday, Wednesday.
- 54:17Speaker 4: Thursday, and Saturday.
- 54:19Speaker 7: Yeah okay, so I do about sixty seven people sometimes
- 54:23Speaker 7: eight a day a day hmm.
- 54:25Speaker 4: So pretty much all day, pretty much.
- 54:27Speaker 3: So you're off traditional Sunday and Monday barber shop days off.
- 54:31Speaker 4: Yeah, Sunday, Sunday and most Mondays. Barbers take Mondays off.
- 54:34Speaker 4: I never understood, like, no barber works for what you want.
- 54:36Speaker 3: You know, they got they gotta work Saturday, they out
- 54:39Speaker 3: the weekend.
- 54:40Speaker 4: You just that makes Monday you need to need two
- 54:43Speaker 4: days off?
- 54:43Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 54:43Speaker 3: All right, wait man, pleasure, pleasure, thank you for for
- 54:48Speaker 3: dropping gyms on us. How can the people contact you?
- 54:51Speaker 3: Information on you on your shops, information on the classes,
