- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good afternoon from the chicken coop.
- 0:30How many times in your life have you heard that you shouldn't go
- 0:33to the grocery store hungry? Well, I used to hear it a lot
- 0:37from my mother, who would say to me when she would send me to do
- 0:39chores and I would go to the grocery store.
- 0:41I remember doing this and when I got my license in high school, I
- 0:44was so excited to do anything, drive my car, I could go
- 0:48anywhere and she would give me $100 and send me to the grocery
- 0:52store, which now $100 doesn't buy you anything at the grocery
- 0:54store. But then it did and she would
- 0:57send me and give me the list and say do not get anything that's
- 1:02not on the list. Please make sure you eat before
- 1:05you go. You should never go to a grocery
- 1:07store hungry. And I used to laugh at it and I
- 1:10would go hungry and I would end up bringing home things that she
- 1:12didn't want me to bring home. But it was a good rule of thumb
- 1:15to not go hungry. And I thought about that because
- 1:19how often do we end up putting ourselves in situations that are
- 1:23very similar to the grocery store when we know we shouldn't
- 1:26be in them and we're hungry Now it's think of it as a metaphor.
- 1:31Don't think of it like it's the real grocery store.
- 1:33Although it is a good thing to not go to the grocery store
- 1:35hungry, it can be a metaphor for other things we do in life.
- 1:38And this is how we get manipulated and advertising.
- 1:42So when you know, there are things that you want to do or
- 1:48you feel like you need to do, and it's this time of the year
- 1:51and you're being completely barraged by ads all the time and
- 1:54you're looking at them and you're like, oh, I really want
- 1:57to do that. Oh, I really want to go there.
- 1:59Oh, the you're being manipulated and you're starving at the same
- 2:04time because you're not taking care of yourself so that you
- 2:07cannot be manipulated that way. And it's imperative to recognize
- 2:12that. That's the same thing as being
- 2:14hungry in the grocery store. They're manipulating you.
- 2:17You walk by and they know you have a yearning and you are
- 2:20going to put it in your cart. So the trick is to understand
- 2:24where your gaps are in your regular life.
- 2:28Like look at it and say, what am I yearning for?
- 2:30So this time of year it's a really big deal because it's
- 2:34typically if you're in the Northern hemisphere, it's cold.
- 2:37And even if you're in Florida, it can be cold and, or down in
- 2:41the South. I mean, it's cold here and it
- 2:45leaves us to retreat. It leaves us to feel certain
- 2:48things. Now, I know this is a very
- 2:50dangerous time for me to be buying seeds because I'm being
- 2:54completely manipulated by it because I can't wait to get
- 2:57outside and plant. So the seed catalogs come, the
- 3:02ads come, the emails come, and I'm looking at all of them and
- 3:04I'm dreaming about seeds. I'm thinking all about seeds and
- 3:07what I can grow and what I can see.
- 3:09And before you know what, I've spent way too much on seeds.
- 3:12And granted, I, I mean, I appreciate the fact that
- 3:16everybody's offering me everything and I, everyone has
- 3:19their right to sell and do what they want to do, but it's my job
- 3:22to make sure I don't have the gaps that they can manipulate.
- 3:25And this is what happens when you go to the grocery store and
- 3:28you're hungry. This is this is just a great
- 3:32thing to look at and say, where is this showing up in my life
- 3:35right now? It may be in clothing, it may be
- 3:38in sleep, it may be in simple little things like seeds like
- 3:42I'm talking about. But no doubt it's showing up
- 3:44somewhere and it's costing you not just your attention, but
- 3:49your money, your time. I mean, lots of different things
- 3:52show up with this. And the only way that you can
- 3:56break out of it is to say, where am I feeling dissatisfied right
- 3:59now? Where am I feeling like I'm
- 4:01hungry for something? Where are these little things,
- 4:04you know, presenting themselves to me?
- 4:06And once you know that, you can actually start to feel like you
- 4:10can control it, take care of it, do something with it.
- 4:13If you don't know it, you can't do anything with it.
- 4:15So the theory is figure out where the gaps are and then you
- 4:19won't struggle. And understanding where those
- 4:23gaps are takes the time to just sit down and notice your
- 4:25emotions. Be in the present moment.
- 4:28I mean, if you've spent any time on social media over the last
- 4:31couple weeks, you know that the monks are walking from Texas to
- 4:35Washington, DC, and one of their big things that they're talking
- 4:38about is being in the present moment.
- 4:40Well, this is another a piece that's like that.
- 4:43You have to be in the present moment to know what you're
- 4:46yearning and what you're looking for.
- 4:48And once you do it, it becomes much easier to solve the
- 4:50problem. But you can't solve a problem
- 4:52you don't understand. So without looking and saying
- 4:55where is this showing up? You can't do it.
- 4:57So this is your little reminder. Consider this your reminder for
- 5:00the day to say, where are the gaps?
- 5:02So I don't get manipulated and I don't end up in a grocery store
- 5:04starving and putting a bunch of crap in my cart.
- 5:06That's not going to be healthy for my body or my soul.
- 5:10OK my friends, I hope this was helpful and I will see you all
- 5:14tomorrow. Bye.
