- 0:00Speaker 1: It's the Mark Simone Show on sevent tenor well, the
- 0:06Speaker 1: great actor comedian Kevin Nelan hasn't been with us in
- 0:09Speaker 1: a long time. Good to have him back. Kevin Nlan
- 0:11Speaker 1: busier than ever. Make sure you watch his special Loose
- 0:16Speaker 1: in the Crotch. It's gotten millions of views on YouTube.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Loose in the Crotch a great series, a very funny
- 0:22Speaker 1: series called Hiking with Kevin. Make sure you watch that.
- 0:26Speaker 1: And he's coming to New Jersey this weekend, Friday night,
- 0:29Speaker 1: Saturday night. He's at the Stress Factory, New Brunswick, New Jersey.
- 0:34Speaker 1: And get the tickets now because he sells out fast.
- 0:36Speaker 1: You can go to Kevin Niland's website. He'll be at
- 0:39Speaker 1: the Stress Factory Friday night, Saturday night, New Brunswick, New Jersey.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Kevin Nilan, how you doing well so far? It's a
- 0:46Speaker 1: hell of an interview with Kevin Nelan. Can we get
- 0:51Speaker 1: him back? Oh, he's gonna call us back. See if
- 0:55Speaker 1: he's smart, he won't call back. This is like three
- 0:57Speaker 1: tries already. I as see him there. He's calling back,
- 1:00Speaker 1: so hopefully this will sound better. But make sure you
- 1:05Speaker 1: go see him Friday night, Saturday night, Stress Factory there's
- 1:09Speaker 1: actually a few of them. But he's at New Brunswick
- 1:12Speaker 1: in New Jersey. Kevin Neeland, are you there, yes, sir,
- 1:15Speaker 1: oh much better. Sorry about that, but great to have
- 1:20Speaker 1: you with us. So you've been to New Jersey many times?
- 1:23Speaker 1: You've played there, right.
- 1:25Speaker 2: I have played there? Yeah. I love the stress actually
- 1:27Speaker 2: in New Brunswick and always a great crowd. And it's
- 1:31Speaker 2: just one of those clubs I've been to quite a
- 1:33Speaker 2: few times and I just love it.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, everybody goes see him Friday night and Saturday night. Hey,
- 1:37Speaker 1: I love your show Hiking with Kevin. It is a
- 1:40Speaker 1: great show. And were you a big hiker before that?
- 1:44Speaker 2: You know what, I wasn't really a big hiker. I
- 1:46Speaker 2: love to hike in the canyons. I live in Los Angeles,
- 1:48Speaker 2: so you know it's for me. It's very meditated to
- 1:51Speaker 2: go on a hiker walk through the canyons. And I
- 1:54Speaker 2: get a lot of work for him. You know, I'm writing,
- 1:56Speaker 2: like to write while I'm hiking and work on my
- 1:59Speaker 2: line for whatever show him on with its Weeds or
- 2:02Speaker 2: you know whatever I'm doing that time. And you know
- 2:05Speaker 2: I came up with this show which is on YouTube.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I would be walking I hear these interesting conversations from
- 2:10Speaker 2: people passing me by, and I almost want to follow
- 2:13Speaker 2: them to hear the rest of the conversation. So I thought,
- 2:15Speaker 2: you know, that might be a nice twist on a podcast.
- 2:19Speaker 1: See, I love I walk a million miles a day,
- 2:21Speaker 1: but in the middle of Manhattan. I think that's more
- 2:23Speaker 1: interesting than being out in the woods. It's a little
- 2:26Speaker 1: You must have had some stars, You've had all every
- 2:28Speaker 1: great comedian on, but there must be some who don't
- 2:31Speaker 1: want to go hiking. Have you ever had that problem?
- 2:33Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, I've've done a few times. Like I asked
- 2:36Speaker 2: Larry David I to who you want to go, and
- 2:37Speaker 2: he texted me back just simply, no.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I don't want to.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Now side Da Da Davis Spade is like pulling teeth,
- 2:46Speaker 2: you know, because he doesn't want to climb up the hill.
- 2:49Speaker 2: They had to be perfectly flat, and he doesn't want
- 2:51Speaker 2: to go during rush hour traffic.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Now, Seinfeld, comedians and cars getting coffee, that's easy because
- 2:57Speaker 1: you just get coffee and he even picks you up.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So didn't you think about something simpler like lunch with Yeah? Yeah, cigarheads.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I'm sorry, No, I mean, it's a lot of work
- 3:09Speaker 1: on this show. Do you ever have anybody who surprised
- 3:12Speaker 1: you how how good they were hiking?
- 3:15Speaker 2: Well, you know, it's funny. It is a lot of work.
- 3:16Speaker 2: But people will get to the trailhead where I meet
- 3:19Speaker 2: them and they'll say, where's your crew? And I say, well,
- 3:21Speaker 2: it was just me. I have a self you know,
- 3:24Speaker 2: selfie stick with it, gopron at the end and I
- 3:26Speaker 2: quiet drone and I go home and I edit it. So,
- 3:29Speaker 2: you know, I think communities and cars might be a
- 3:31Speaker 2: little slicker looking because they have a whole crew and
- 3:33Speaker 2: staff and all that. But that's what mine's meant to be.
- 3:35Speaker 2: It's meant to be more homespun. Yeah, some of the
- 3:38Speaker 2: hikers I've had have been you know, I mentioned Spade before.
- 3:42Speaker 2: He's not a hiker. He's not a hiker at all.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Sometimes the people show up with a cup of coffee.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I know that they're not into it.
- 3:52Speaker 1: You know, Well, I like your technique better because Seinfeldt
- 3:56Speaker 1: show is great, But they have like seven cars all
- 3:58Speaker 1: around and with cameras come out of every window and
- 4:01Speaker 1: at twelve cameras in the restaurant. You really don't need
- 4:04Speaker 1: all that anymore.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Do you. Well, you know, I think it works for him.
- 4:08Speaker 2: People that love cars, I think like to watch that show.
- 4:10Speaker 2: But no, it is You're right. Nowadays you don't really
- 4:13Speaker 2: need a lot of technology surrounding you because it's all
- 4:16Speaker 2: kind of crammed into one thing now and with AI especially,
- 4:21Speaker 2: it's getting more and more easy.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah, because when you do a movie and you show
- 4:26Speaker 1: up there there's like forty seven trailers and nine trucks
- 4:28Speaker 1: and six hundred people working, like what it is kind
- 4:30Speaker 1: of waste of mind. Look, look how much you get
- 4:32Speaker 1: done by yourself with a selfie stick for twenty two bucks.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Much easier, right, I know it, I know it.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I love doing it. It's fun to do it too.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I've done over one hundred and fifty hikes I think
- 4:43Speaker 2: over the last seven years.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Yeah, so everybody go on line watch it. It's great. Also, Hey,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I love you and the Conan O'Brien together. You did that,
- 4:50Speaker 1: you did the podcast, and he's now the oscar host.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Looks like permanently right.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that way, but nothing's from it, of course,
- 5:01Speaker 2: but he seems like he's got a good gig going. Yeah.
- 5:03Speaker 2: I've known Conan for thirty five thirty seven years, you know,
- 5:06Speaker 2: since he was a writer in ESNL. Yeah, so we
- 5:09Speaker 2: have a good kind of rapport with each other and
- 5:12Speaker 2: good chemistry and it always seems to make people laugh.
- 5:15Speaker 2: So I enjoy visiting him whenever I can.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Yeah. So there's a million comedians in the world today.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Nobody's ever heard of their younger. But see, you guys
- 5:22Speaker 1: are like I don't mean an age, but you guys
- 5:24Speaker 1: are like status wise, you're like the elder statesman. You
- 5:27Speaker 1: and Conan, you're like the the grown ups in the bunch.
- 5:31Speaker 1: So they must feel good.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Well, I don't know if you could call any comic
- 5:34Speaker 2: or grown up, but yeah, we've certainly have been around
- 5:37Speaker 2: quite a bit and we have become the older statesman.
- 5:40Speaker 2: I guess over a period of time, but we finally
- 5:42Speaker 2: slid into that spot others.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Now, I like that Conan podcast. You do some great podcasts.
- 5:50Speaker 1: But don't you think there should be some sort of law, Like,
- 5:52Speaker 1: shouldn't every amateur in the world now has a podcast.
- 5:55Speaker 1: My dentist has a podcast. Everybody's got a podcast. Don't
- 5:58Speaker 1: you think they should be Like you have to be
- 6:00Speaker 1: licensed from now on, a licensed professional to do this.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Yes, certainly, as a dentist you should be licensed but yeah,
- 6:08Speaker 2: I remember. I don't know if you remember this, but
- 6:10Speaker 2: you used to have to get Element nine passed to
- 6:13Speaker 2: be a disc jock euro Radio.
- 6:14Speaker 1: How did you know that? Wow?
- 6:16Speaker 2: Oh, because in college we had a radio station and
- 6:18Speaker 2: I failed that test. I could. Yeah, but now I
- 6:23Speaker 2: guess you don't need.
- 6:23Speaker 1: It right Well, believe it or not. Back then you
- 6:26Speaker 1: had in the seventies or whatever, eighties, you had to
- 6:28Speaker 1: have an FCC license to be It wasn't to be
- 6:31Speaker 1: on the air, it was to run the transmitter, which
- 6:34Speaker 1: many DJs had to do. Yeah, it was elements one, three,
- 6:36Speaker 1: and nine. Nine was the tough one. So were you
- 6:41Speaker 1: ever thinking of being a radio person professionally?
- 6:44Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, yeah. Our college had a radio station, so
- 6:48Speaker 2: I was kind of toying with that idea of, you know,
- 6:52Speaker 2: working there as a DJ. But it didn't come to
- 6:56Speaker 2: fruition because I couldn't pass that test. So I guess
- 6:58Speaker 2: this was meant to be. Well, that's that's life. Unfortunately,
- 7:02Speaker 2: you ended up being a big star on SNL. I
- 7:04Speaker 2: think it turned out all right for you. So hey,
- 7:06Speaker 2: I love your I've had a good run. Yeah, I
- 7:08Speaker 2: love the special Loosing the Crotch. You got another one
- 7:11Speaker 2: coming up. Oh well, I just shot that one, so
- 7:15Speaker 2: hopefully I do have another one coming up eventually. But yeah,
- 7:18Speaker 2: that one I just came out a couple of months ago,
- 7:20Speaker 2: Loosing the Crotch, And you know, I haven't done a
- 7:22Speaker 2: special in about ten years, so this is kind of
- 7:25Speaker 2: some really well tuned material and a little different from
- 7:31Speaker 2: my previous specials. So I was excited about that. And
- 7:34Speaker 2: people are really you know, finding it and loving it
- 7:38Speaker 2: and spreading the words. So I'm really happy about that.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Yeah, it's good going YouTube you can see.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Hey.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Also, Kevin Neiland has a new film coming up, Mermaid.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Robert Patrick, Johnny Pemberton. What kind of film is that says? Comedy, horror, thriller.
- 7:51Speaker 1: That's a lot in one film.
- 7:53Speaker 2: It is, yes, a comedy, thriller, horror, and it was
- 7:58Speaker 2: really fun doing it. It's such a bizarre concept, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 2: this these this mermaid is discovered by the character played
- 8:05Speaker 2: by Johnny Pemperton. He's a percoset attict and he's on
- 8:09Speaker 2: the run in from of these drugs. You got dealers
- 8:11Speaker 2: that want money from him, and he finds this wounded
- 8:14Speaker 2: mermaid who was shot. Because these mermaids are not just
- 8:17Speaker 2: typical mermaids. They are kind of like killer mermaids. They
- 8:20Speaker 2: the spaces are disgusting looking, and you know, so he
- 8:24Speaker 2: has to kind of conceal this mermaid while the drug
- 8:27Speaker 2: dealers are chasing him, and he's kind of just falling
- 8:30Speaker 2: in love with this mermaid who he keeps doped up
- 8:32Speaker 2: on percoset the whole time.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Who the hell came up with this plot? That's that's
- 8:37Speaker 1: pretty intricate. So, uh, hey, have you ever turned down
- 8:41Speaker 1: a film and then it turned out to be the
- 8:42Speaker 1: biggest hit in the world.
- 8:44Speaker 2: No, I take everything that's offered to me. I've taken
- 8:50Speaker 2: films that have turned out to be the biggest disappointment
- 8:52Speaker 2: in the world to me.
- 8:54Speaker 1: But everyone but hey, Kevin Nelon, we're out of time,
- 8:57Speaker 1: but thanks for doing this. Now, everybody, go see Kevin.
