- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning. I'm actually in the garden this
- 0:31morning and we are talking about accepting your circumstances.
- 0:36So yesterday late in the day, as I was checking the garden before
- 0:41I go to bed, yes, I put the chickens away and I checked the
- 0:43plants just to make sure. Even though I've looked at them
- 0:46probably 20 times in the day, I always make a pass through and
- 0:49check everything and go to lock it up.
- 0:52And there were two of my tomato plants that were slumped over.
- 0:57And again, this is a big deal for me based on the fact that
- 1:00I've had such a challenge with this virus that's in the ground.
- 1:04But here's the thing. The tomatoes are not in the
- 1:07ground. They're in the grow bags.
- 1:08So they're above the ground. There's a barrier between the
- 1:11grow bag in the ground. So there is no reason for this
- 1:15this, this virus to be present in the soil.
- 1:18And the soil came from off this island, bagged soil.
- 1:22I was very careful about what I got.
- 1:24Organic growers choice, you know, in raised bed soil that
- 1:28was supposed to be premium. So and it is premium.
- 1:32I shouldn't say supposed to be, but it is premium.
- 1:34So I have it all sorted out and I have them, you know, separated
- 1:39and I go in to check on everything and lo and behold,
- 1:42what do we have? We have two slumped plants and
- 1:45they happen to be side by side. Like what are the odds that they
- 1:48would happen to be side by side and slumped over.
- 1:51So immediately my brain goes to oh, no, Oh no, Oh no.
- 1:57And I start to, to have the panic thought of like, what is
- 2:00happening? This is, this is bad.
- 2:02This is something that is from before.
- 2:04And I start to go down that spiral.
- 2:07And you know, you're when you're in that place, sometimes the,
- 2:12the worst thing in the whole world is the unknown.
- 2:16And what you keep saying to yourself, the like, you're just,
- 2:19you're just looping, you're looping, you're looping.
- 2:21And yesterday I heard a phrase, well, actually I read a phrase
- 2:27about accepting the circumstances and I have been
- 2:30loop looping as well in my head on that phrase, accept the
- 2:34circumstances and it the author wrote it.
- 2:38And as a as a tool to say, hey, you know, you, you have to
- 2:44acknowledge where you are and it just accept it.
- 2:49But there was no follow through on it to say yes, you have to
- 2:54know where you start and you still have to be willing to move
- 2:57on from there. So that had been looping in my
- 3:00head as an irritation all night long hearing like I said, after
- 3:05I read it was I was hearing it in my head over and over.
- 3:07And then here I am this morning, standing here in front of these
- 3:11the situation with the tomato and, and saying to myself, OK,
- 3:15so I, I yesterday when this all happened, I did not accept the
- 3:20circumstances that I was dealing with that that was the end of
- 3:23the line. What I did was I took it as a
- 3:25point of here's where I am right now and now I have to fix this.
- 3:30So I took the, I pulled out one of them.
- 3:32I actually pulled back the dirt. I looked at it and I said, OK,
- 3:36something clearly damaged one of these plants and then the other
- 3:39one, I couldn't find any damage. So I pulled the the one that was
- 3:45really damaged out and then the one that was just droopy.
- 3:49I took it, I separated it and I heavily dosed it with water and
- 3:55fertilizer and I said, OK, we're going to see where you are
- 3:58overnight. So as I stand here this morning
- 4:00and I look at it, it is drooping, but it is not as
- 4:04drooping as it was. So it's trying to repair itself.
- 4:07So it's still separated and it will remain separated and I will
- 4:10work on it. But I didn't use that as a like,
- 4:15OK, I'm just going to accept that this is back again and I
- 4:19just, you know, have to give in. It was not a throw the towel in
- 4:23kind of thing for me. It was a marker of saying, OK, I
- 4:27have to use this as a point to move forward with it.
- 4:31And no, yes, this is where I'm starting.
- 4:33Or yes, this may be a hiccup or yes, this may be a current
- 4:36circumstance. But I don't have to accept that
- 4:39as the end of the line. And that's the point of today.
- 4:42Accept the circumstances. I take that with a grain of
- 4:46salt. It's more about understand the
- 4:48circumstances and where they have you in the current moment.
- 4:52But accepting something to me is very much like, OK, I, there's
- 4:56nothing I can do. And rarely do I believe I have
- 5:01to just not do something. Rarely is that the case.
- 5:04I, I always think there's something that can be changed.
- 5:08There's a thought, there's a pattern, there's a, a movement,
- 5:11there's an intention, There is always something that can be
- 5:14done. So we might not know all the
- 5:17answers, but in the moment, but there's always a way to
- 5:20research, there's always a way to do something.
- 5:23So remember that when you hear someone say accept the
- 5:25circumstances, it's more about accepting the current position.
- 5:30Don't accept that you have to stay there.
- 5:32All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:35will see you tomorrow. Bye.
