- 2:44Speaker 2: And we're doing some different things here. It just ass
- 2:46Speaker 2: we're switching it up.
- 2:47Speaker 1: When God gave me, uh some words, some language last
- 2:51Speaker 1: year at the podcast I'm in twenty twenty three and
- 2:54Speaker 1: I thought it would. I know it's gonna go beyond
- 2:57Speaker 1: this point, but this is a starting point. This is
- 2:59Speaker 1: the of this opportunity. And man, the person that we
- 3:04Speaker 1: have helping us birth this project is so wonderful. And
- 3:08Speaker 1: the project is called Beyond the pull Pit, and so
- 3:12Speaker 1: this is gonna be a safe space where faith based
- 3:15Speaker 1: influencers get to shine, get to be vulnerable, get to
- 3:21Speaker 1: be transparent, and you get to learn different things. Now
- 3:23Speaker 1: when I tell you, Holy and Spirit will be here, Okay,
- 3:29Speaker 1: I already feel the tremblings of Bahard because it's man,
- 3:32Speaker 1: they say what two or three aregether? And man, it's
- 3:35Speaker 1: it's something about when certain people gather.
- 3:37Speaker 2: It just it's just going off off the realm.
- 3:40Speaker 1: So I'm super excited to have our very own I'm
- 3:45Speaker 1: gonna say our because baby, when he goes places, he pours.
- 3:48Speaker 1: And listen, you gonna know when he's been in the
- 3:51Speaker 1: building he is d is the pastor of none other
- 3:56Speaker 1: than All Nations Church fair Field, our very all, our
- 4:02Speaker 1: our leader, our voice, none other than Bishop Jonathan L.
- 4:09Speaker 5: What what's up?
- 4:14Speaker 2: Listen? Do y'all see how you first of all youthfulness.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Okay, do you see the skin as some that is
- 4:22Speaker 1: not a skin regimen?
- 4:23Speaker 2: That is all Bishop was.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, listen, y'all see we match you go
- 4:32Speaker 1: ahead and get the match.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Y'all see the hat, I got the jacket.
- 4:35Speaker 1: It's you know, your a little sweat going on in here,
- 4:38Speaker 1: like scripted, just just here.
- 4:43Speaker 2: So I know it's about God. It's about to be good.
- 4:46Speaker 5: I'm supposed to being here. I'm supposed to be present
- 4:50Speaker 5: and learn, you know, what I need to do to
- 4:52Speaker 5: be better.
- 4:53Speaker 2: We're gonna what is that iron shoppers?
- 4:55Speaker 5: All right?
- 4:56Speaker 4: Right?
- 4:56Speaker 1: Iron?
- 4:57Speaker 2: So how you feeling Bishop?
- 4:59Speaker 5: I'm feeling great. I'm feeling great.
- 5:01Speaker 1: You know.
- 5:01Speaker 5: This is a great season of my life, a pivotal time,
- 5:08Speaker 5: and I'm just feeling great and just celebrated blah my
- 5:13Speaker 5: forty fourth birthday.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Come on, somebody, y'all celebrate them.
- 5:18Speaker 2: We love we love it that you're still here.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna kno this mic there, but we're excited that
- 5:24Speaker 1: you're here.
- 5:25Speaker 5: I'm glad to be here. I was excited about it
- 5:28Speaker 5: when I got the call, and I just knew he
- 5:31Speaker 5: was gonna cook up some great stuff today. So I'm really,
- 5:34Speaker 5: really excited to be here. Thank y'all for having me then.
- 5:38Speaker 5: But yes, when I said I was like, oh, oh
- 5:41Speaker 5: my goodness. Most just don't know I get excited, like
- 5:44Speaker 5: they just like, oh, they think, no.
- 5:46Speaker 1: You the celebrity for me. You are not like you
- 5:50Speaker 1: and me on the map. Right, this is gonna put
- 5:54Speaker 1: us on the map. Listen, I'm so honored because of
- 5:59Speaker 1: there is Oh I'm trying not to speaking tall, so
- 6:02Speaker 1: we're gonna if a talal come out, y'all, I don't.
- 6:06Speaker 5: Talk on you, but I speaking tall.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I'm speaking. I gotta think it later. But there is
- 6:15Speaker 2: so much.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Evidence when you walk into a space and it's just
- 6:21Speaker 1: so it's so mind blowing being in your your atmosphere.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I'm even like trying to contain my spirit, my like,
- 6:29Speaker 1: I feel like my spirit is leaping. And it's evidence
- 6:33Speaker 1: in what you've been doing. You've been you've been in ministry.
- 6:37Speaker 1: What since a young a young boy?
- 6:40Speaker 2: How old were you when you started?
- 6:42Speaker 5: I started preaching at the age of twenty m And
- 6:46Speaker 5: you know the backstory to that is I wasn't looked
- 6:51Speaker 5: at as a person that would preach or you know,
- 6:53Speaker 5: my father's a bishop. I grew up in church. I'm
- 6:56Speaker 5: a PK. But uh, I was a little you know,
- 7:00Speaker 5: I was a little troublemaker in my team, not you Yeah, yeah,
- 7:05Speaker 5: I got a little trouble you know. I was a
- 7:08Speaker 5: church musician, you know. Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 7:13Speaker 1: If y'all don't know, some of these church musicians need
- 7:17Speaker 1: a little bit more sheese.
- 7:19Speaker 2: So were you want to be?
- 7:22Speaker 5: Well, you know, I just I had a few complications.
- 7:27Speaker 5: You know, it was it was.
- 7:32Speaker 2: A little complicated.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Okay, well we're gonna take no complications.
- 7:38Speaker 5: You know, most of my siblings, I'd say most of
- 7:41Speaker 5: my siblings were pretty spiritually in tune, you know, growing up,
- 7:47Speaker 5: especially around them, you know, fifteen sixteen years old, they
- 7:50Speaker 5: kind of linked in. But me, you know, I was
- 7:53Speaker 5: more slow with my spirituality. You know, I developed at
- 7:58Speaker 5: a young age, God bless me tremendously on the instruments,
- 8:02Speaker 5: organ keys, all that, and uh became a real popular
- 8:07Speaker 5: kid back then playing music, and uh, you know, got
- 8:10Speaker 5: into some things and went through some challenges. And you know,
- 8:14Speaker 5: I'm from the era where they set you down in church.
- 8:16Speaker 5: I don't know if you know anything about that.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I've been sat down before you you Oh, I hadn't
- 8:21Speaker 1: been sat down before. Now, I'm not the church that
- 8:23Speaker 1: I got set down here, but.
- 8:24Speaker 5: I got I figured you was just one of the
- 8:29Speaker 5: Holy angels, you know, posing as Yeah, I'm gonna need
- 8:36Speaker 5: you not to leave me out here by myself. But yep,
- 8:40Speaker 5: so that happened. But I grew up really fast. You know.
- 8:42Speaker 5: When I turned twenty, which was the year two thousand,
- 8:47Speaker 5: you know, I came into that year, you know, playing
- 8:49Speaker 5: for a church, playing for the Yeah. Yeah, I don't
- 8:53Speaker 5: know if you remember that y two k scared.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember.
- 8:58Speaker 5: I was doing a lot of repentance on that day,
- 9:02Speaker 5: you know, the last day of the year, December thirty first,
- 9:05Speaker 5: I was like, God, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm scared.
- 9:07Speaker 5: You know. By town three o'clock rolled around on the
- 9:10Speaker 5: next day, I was like, I'm good, you know. So
- 9:12Speaker 5: I went back to doing my own thing, you know.
- 9:19Speaker 5: But literally that was the year that changed my life.
- 9:25Speaker 5: You know. I came into that year. I was talking
- 9:28Speaker 5: to a few different girls, you know, things of that nature.
- 9:32Speaker 5: Met my wife in April of that year, started dating
- 9:36Speaker 5: her in May, married her in August. Started preaching in.
- 9:41Speaker 1: This Wait wait, wait, don't go past it. Don't go
- 9:44Speaker 1: past it. Don't don't go past it.
- 9:46Speaker 5: In fact, I need to tell somebody, don't try that. Okay,
- 9:50Speaker 5: you heard it from the horse. We made it, We survived,
- 9:53Speaker 5: but it was by the grace of God. Don't do that,
- 9:57Speaker 5: trust me.
- 9:59Speaker 2: But so you said that you met her and this
- 10:04Speaker 2: is two thousand.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you met her in April, Yes, and got married Yeah,
- 10:10Speaker 1: in May, August, August and August. So you got I
- 10:14Speaker 1: don't know why I was trying to speed it up.
- 10:15Speaker 1: But okay, so how did did you just have a
- 10:19Speaker 1: awareness or what she was? Just like you finna put
- 10:22Speaker 1: a ring on it because it some of us be
- 10:26Speaker 1: like that, Bishops like, some of us are little aggressive
- 10:28Speaker 1: as she was. She agres or she was just like
- 10:32Speaker 1: y'all just knew.
- 10:33Speaker 5: Well, it was organic, you know. Everything about us was mutual,
- 10:37Speaker 5: you know. And I've never been in a relationship like that.
- 10:40Speaker 5: You know, usually when I was with a girl. In
- 10:43Speaker 5: the back of my mind, you know, I just did
- 10:45Speaker 5: it for the moment, but I was compromising something that
- 10:49Speaker 5: I wanted in a woman. But I was like, I'll
- 10:51Speaker 5: just do this for now, but I know this is
- 10:54Speaker 5: not gonna be my forever.
- 10:55Speaker 1: When you say something you was compromising, something was that
- 10:59Speaker 1: something normally your spirituality.
- 11:02Speaker 5: Sometimes yes, yes, you're already in the spirit, the prophetic
- 11:06Speaker 5: is flowing. Yeah, yeah, because you know, in my mind,
- 11:09Speaker 5: I was like, you know, one day I'm gonna serve God.
- 11:11Speaker 5: I'm gonna serve it for real. And I at least
- 11:14Speaker 5: wanted a woman that had that sensitivity to God. She
- 11:19Speaker 5: didn't have to be like a prophetess or incessor or
- 11:23Speaker 5: just gung hole. But I needed someone that would really
- 11:26Speaker 5: when it was time for me to make that move
- 11:30Speaker 5: or whatever, that they would be willing to make that
- 11:33Speaker 5: move with me. And that was a lot of it.
- 11:36Speaker 5: You know, sometimes I would if I liked the face,
- 11:38Speaker 5: but I didn't like the attitude. I'd tolerate the attitude
- 11:41Speaker 5: because of the pretty face. Hey we look good in
- 11:43Speaker 5: public together. But I knew, like I'm not. This is
- 11:46Speaker 5: not my forever. You know, it's too much bickering, too
- 11:49Speaker 5: much arguing. But when I met my wife, you know,
- 11:52Speaker 5: she was just checking all the boxes. You know, we
- 11:55Speaker 5: both were at a pivotal place. This is so good,
- 12:00Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. And we were like our
- 12:04Speaker 5: first conversation was straight, candid. If you're about games, I
- 12:08Speaker 5: want to talk to you I want my faver.
- 12:12Speaker 2: And you said you were twenty at this point.
- 12:14Speaker 5: Yep, yep, yep. I was twenty. She was nineteen. And
- 12:18Speaker 5: you know we both were young, but we had experienced
- 12:21Speaker 5: a lot in life. You know, at a young age,
- 12:23Speaker 5: you know, going through trying to find yourself, identity crisis,
- 12:27Speaker 5: rejection issues, You're reaching, reaching, reaching, trying to fill voids.
- 12:30Speaker 5: And so when we met each other, man, we was
- 12:33Speaker 5: just ready. We was ready. But we were ready. And I
- 12:37Speaker 5: say that lightly because we thought we were ready.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Because well, because the.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Beautiful thing about marriage, well for what I understand, because
- 12:49Speaker 1: you know I'm not deal yet, we're gonna play.
- 12:50Speaker 2: We pray for that. We're gonna pray for that.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Don't make me prophesized, Okay, it makes so you get
- 12:57Speaker 1: it on the camera.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Okay, I wait on God, then I wait, glory.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Look. So, so the beautiful thing about marriage is that,
- 13:08Speaker 1: like you said, I say ready lightly, But at that moment,
- 13:12Speaker 1: what you knew to be ready was what you took
- 13:15Speaker 1: hold of and then went forward.
- 13:18Speaker 2: What kept you motivated to stay married.
- 13:21Speaker 5: That's a wonderful question. Easy to answer for me because
- 13:25Speaker 5: I tell married couples all the time, like be sure,
- 13:30Speaker 5: be sure even in your dark seasons. Being sure will
- 13:35Speaker 5: carry you. What carried me through my dark seasons, my
- 13:40Speaker 5: challenging seasons, ups and downs in marriage, was that I
- 13:43Speaker 5: know I married the right person. You know out there.
- 13:47Speaker 5: I didn't experiment with it. It wasn't taken again there.
- 13:51Speaker 5: I wasn't trying something. I was like, I know she's
- 13:54Speaker 5: my person. All of this other stuff that we got
- 13:57Speaker 5: to work through, will figure it out. But that kind
- 14:01Speaker 5: of gives fuel to your fight. But if you're not sure,
- 14:06Speaker 5: then your fight is not gonna be as committed. You're
- 14:10Speaker 5: only committed to what you're sure about. Just like if
- 14:13Speaker 5: you say God told you start a church, but if
- 14:16Speaker 5: you stay.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Right right right, I can't take your world.
- 14:20Speaker 5: I'm with you, I can't. Maybe this is for an
- 14:25Speaker 5: inspiring pastor out there, you know, because I've noticed that,
- 14:30Speaker 5: you know, the pioneer does not awaken to the level
- 14:35Speaker 5: that it needs to if that person is just trying something.
- 14:41Speaker 5: Just like when I started ministry, I was like, I'm
- 14:44Speaker 5: doing this. I ain't gonna try it. I'm doing it.
- 14:47Speaker 5: If I die trying to get it right, I'm not
- 14:49Speaker 5: gonna quit. You know what I'm saying. And that's exactly
- 14:53Speaker 5: what you know carried me through to where we are
- 14:55Speaker 5: today in my marriage to my beautiful wife that I love, love, love,
- 14:59Speaker 5: do you so much? Yeah, she is.
- 15:02Speaker 1: She is beautiful and very poised. Like it's a grace
- 15:06Speaker 1: to be the first lady. Oh, it's It's a grace, absolutely,
- 15:11Speaker 1: from the looks of what I see, because I'm not
- 15:13Speaker 1: a part of the flock, but I just be nosy
- 15:19Speaker 1: people visit. But from what I've seen is there's a
- 15:24Speaker 1: grace and elegance that she upholds. And man to have
- 15:28Speaker 1: someone that supports you in that way, because like you said,
- 15:31Speaker 1: your PK, I wi PK and I thank God for
- 15:34Speaker 1: my bonus mama, because who the the look you I'm stuttering.
- 15:40Speaker 2: The life of a.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Preacher, the life of a pastor, it's something something serious.
- 15:48Speaker 1: So when you started ministering at twenty when did you
- 15:52Speaker 1: start pastoring?
- 15:53Speaker 5: I started pastoring at twenty eight? Okay, twenty eight, So
- 15:58Speaker 5: I started preaching. I preached my first messa in December
- 16:01Speaker 5: of two thousand. Yeah, so I was still twenty and
- 16:06Speaker 5: it was the worst preaching you ever wanted to hear
- 16:09Speaker 5: in your life. You know what I'm saying, You know
- 16:12Speaker 5: what you know you putting David, you know, in the
- 16:16Speaker 5: lines then and you know, Noah, No, you know, you
- 16:19Speaker 5: know what I'm saying, Noah, part of the Red Sea.
- 16:22Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying. You know, that's you know,
- 16:25Speaker 5: my wife would argue with me on that, because she's
- 16:27Speaker 5: one of my biggest fans and supporters, so she'd be like, no,
- 16:30Speaker 5: I wasn't that bad, but it really was. It really was.
- 16:34Speaker 5: And then once I started actually getting a word, I
- 16:37Speaker 5: grew up Neil Pentecostalism, you know, holiness, and so my
- 16:42Speaker 5: whole focus was on just getting people to live right.
- 16:46Speaker 5: So I was real dogmatic. You know. Every message was
- 16:50Speaker 5: on sin, you know, and I wanted to make sure
- 16:53Speaker 5: I let you know how terrible of a sinner you were,
- 16:55Speaker 5: you know. And my pastor pulled me to the side
- 16:58Speaker 5: and say, you're anointed and you're gifted, but your ministry
- 17:01Speaker 5: is going absoluutely nowhere if you don't change your approach
- 17:06Speaker 5: to ministry. So that was a segue into me, you know,
- 17:11Speaker 5: preaching more of a of a loving gospel, more of
- 17:14Speaker 5: a balanced gospel, not not permissible, but intentional with discipleship
- 17:21Speaker 5: and evangelism and not trying to castigate and humiliate.
- 17:25Speaker 1: So oh that is so good because it's sometimes well
- 17:30Speaker 1: with social media, it's so tangible to see, yeah, people.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Sin, shame.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:37Speaker 1: And I think that I'm a big person that would
- 17:42Speaker 1: say a big on this, especially in this season. God
- 17:45Speaker 1: will love you out of something and love you into something,
- 17:48Speaker 1: right and so and so with you, just with you
- 17:52Speaker 1: saying that what was the process and the stuff that
- 17:55Speaker 1: you took to change it from a sin? Because obviously
- 17:57Speaker 1: you were like, I'm convicted. Everybody need to be like that.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Was that your thought process or did you tell to
- 18:04Speaker 1: learn how to allow God to love you so that
- 18:06Speaker 1: you could teach the love of God?
- 18:08Speaker 5: Well, because I had learned salvation through a works based theology,
- 18:14Speaker 5: and you know, when I got married, I left all
- 18:17Speaker 5: the girls alone. I went full fledged into God. You know,
- 18:23Speaker 5: in my own personal estimation where I was, I felt
- 18:26Speaker 5: like I was pretty moral moral God. So I was
- 18:28Speaker 5: preaching from my place of personal morality, and it wasn't
- 18:33Speaker 5: until I started messing up that I started learning grace.
- 18:39Speaker 5: You know, just in in various areas of your life.
- 18:42Speaker 5: You know, you're you're going through things on your job,
- 18:46Speaker 5: you know, you tell a little white lie here you know,
- 18:50Speaker 5: you rob God a little bit with your tithes. You know,
- 18:53Speaker 5: you get into arguments, disputations, you know, you're and your
- 18:56Speaker 5: wife start going through situations, all kinds of stuff happening,
- 19:01Speaker 5: you know what I mean. And then you you know,
- 19:04Speaker 5: after you've been with God for a little while, you
- 19:06Speaker 5: may sneak and watch your little porn every now and then,
- 19:09Speaker 5: you know, things that I had totally stopped doing. I
- 19:12Speaker 5: kind of started sneaking and you know, doing here and
- 19:16Speaker 5: there and just wasn't as devoted as I once were.
- 19:21Speaker 5: Was rather, and that's when I discovered the love of Jesus,
- 19:27Speaker 5: not just the laws of Jesus. And and then I
- 19:32Speaker 5: noticed that, you know, times when I missed, when when
- 19:35Speaker 5: I missed God, he didn't take his spirit from me.
- 19:39Speaker 5: He still used me. He still opened doors for me,
- 19:43Speaker 5: you know, because I had this phobia like if I
- 19:45Speaker 5: ever sin on any level, he's done. You know, he
- 19:50Speaker 5: ain't rocking with me anymore. And it was through that
- 19:53Speaker 5: process it grew me and taught me a different side
- 19:58Speaker 5: to the God that we see, and that got me
- 20:01Speaker 5: to preaching a different way.
- 20:08Speaker 2: I'm trying not to scream.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Right now because it's a transparence that I ask people
- 20:14Speaker 1: to be with me.
- 20:15Speaker 2: I'm working on that.
- 20:17Speaker 1: When I tell you, oh, Deli Ray, we should have
- 20:20Speaker 1: got Tissan, we should have we should have got I'm
- 20:24Speaker 1: trying to fight these fears there because that just spoke
- 20:28Speaker 1: to my soul so much, because I feel like I
- 20:31Speaker 1: am there.
- 20:31Speaker 2: I'm thirty two.
- 20:32Speaker 5: Wow. Yeah.
- 20:34Speaker 1: And one of the things that I battle with Bishop
- 20:37Speaker 1: is that knowing, Okay, I'm this woman of God. People
- 20:41Speaker 1: regard me as this woman of God, and that I
- 20:46Speaker 1: see where God has taking me. But I feel so
- 20:50Speaker 1: low at times because I feel it's not even I
- 20:53Speaker 1: feel undeserving. I know I'm undeserving and experiencing the the obstacles, yeah,
- 21:02Speaker 1: of life, and still being being aware of the oil
- 21:09Speaker 1: and appreciating that that is that is a skill.
- 21:11Speaker 2: How did How did you get there?
- 21:15Speaker 5: Man? Trial and error? You know, time with God. And
- 21:20Speaker 5: I think it's important for everyone to understand that ministry
- 21:25Speaker 5: is a by product of relationship. Ministry is not your
- 21:30Speaker 5: relationship with God. It's a by product of that. And
- 21:34Speaker 5: we're on a journey with God. It's and the destination
- 21:37Speaker 5: is heaven. So in reality, this is something that we
- 21:42Speaker 5: will be in for the rest of our lives. And
- 21:46Speaker 5: it's it's journeys, it's seasons, it's experiences, it's books read,
- 21:52Speaker 5: its prayers prayed, it's encounters with God, it's having to
- 21:56Speaker 5: battle the giants within, whether it's in poster syndrome, rejection, insecurity,
- 22:03Speaker 5: low self esteem, lust, you know, whatever it is, I
- 22:07Speaker 5: believe the Lord allows us to manage those imperfections in
- 22:14Speaker 5: order to show us different revelations of who He is,
- 22:18Speaker 5: even down to our financial challenges, because sometimes the enemy
- 22:23Speaker 5: will try to use where you're not financially to discredit
- 22:27Speaker 5: who you are in the kingdom. But we have to
- 22:30Speaker 5: remember that what we do and who we are is autonomous.
- 22:36Speaker 5: You know, your vocation in the Kingdom has its own autonomy,
- 22:42Speaker 5: and your character has its own autonomy. They both correlate
- 22:47Speaker 5: at some point because Paul says in one scripture, he says,
- 22:51Speaker 5: we are to walk worthy of the vocation where we
- 22:56Speaker 5: are called. But we've got to understand that sometimes our
- 22:59Speaker 5: vote cation is walking at a faster pace than our
- 23:03Speaker 5: development and who we are. You know, you know, the
- 23:08Speaker 5: vocation is in fifth gear, but the character is in two,
- 23:12Speaker 5: you know, which is sometimes why God will in his
- 23:16Speaker 5: grace and his love and how he walks with us.
- 23:20Speaker 5: He will only bring us into certain measures of success
- 23:24Speaker 5: in certain seasons, as we fought and conquered certain goliaths.
- 23:29Speaker 5: You know, I was sharing this with my son. You know,
- 23:32Speaker 5: the Old Testament is a microcosm, a physical microcosm of
- 23:38Speaker 5: what we deal with in this New Testament context spiritually.
- 23:41Speaker 5: You know, Goliath represents something spiritually that we deal with today.
- 23:46Speaker 5: You know, the Amalekites, the Midianites, you know, all those
- 23:50Speaker 5: heights that you know, the people God had to deal
- 23:53Speaker 5: with represents the things that we have to deal with now.
- 23:57Speaker 5: You know, whatever it is like some of those things
- 24:00Speaker 5: called out, those are and you know, go life was
- 24:02Speaker 5: killed in one day. Yeah, but then David's fight with
- 24:08Speaker 5: the household Saul lasted for many, many years. So that
- 24:13Speaker 5: was just one enemy. But he had many enemies, and
- 24:16Speaker 5: oftentimes is the enemies that we fight. The enemy himself
- 24:24Speaker 5: will use to try to make us feel like we're
- 24:26Speaker 5: not qualified, or we're not valid, or you know, and
- 24:30Speaker 5: he'll try to whisper those things in our in the
- 24:33Speaker 5: back of our minds when we're flowing in what God
- 24:36Speaker 5: has called us to do. But the truth of the
- 24:40Speaker 5: matter is We're not the essence of the call, you know,
- 24:43Speaker 5: we're the conduit of the call. We just transmit God
- 24:47Speaker 5: to people, and sometimes the conduit is thwarted and broken
- 24:51Speaker 5: and going through a process of development and mending and healing.
- 24:56Speaker 5: And we have to always remember that so we won't
- 24:58Speaker 5: allow the enemy, you know, to play those games with
- 25:02Speaker 5: our minds.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Man, you, I feel like we're in two right now,
- 25:07Speaker 1: because I was just about to ask you about the
- 25:10Speaker 1: with you being in ministry, what I understand and what
- 25:15Speaker 1: I've experienced because I've seen it, but I'm experiencing now
- 25:18Speaker 1: and I think me and desil Ray have talked about
- 25:21Speaker 1: this even in our relationship, the that C word comparison. Yeah,
- 25:27Speaker 1: and just in my mind visual like, ain't nobody like
- 25:31Speaker 1: visc or what like, you know what I'm saying, It
- 25:33Speaker 1: ain't nobody got the saunces.
- 25:34Speaker 5: Of drill like you.
- 25:35Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I know about two thousand of your members gonna say
- 25:38Speaker 1: amen for that, But like I really I really know
- 25:45Speaker 1: a different level because of the ministry. It's like that
- 25:48Speaker 1: that comparison word always come up when I'm not even
- 25:52Speaker 1: gonna say if because I can guarantee you because of
- 25:55Speaker 1: how great you are you dealt with that comparison?
- 25:57Speaker 2: How did you deal with that? Capture that and move
- 25:59Speaker 2: forward because.
- 26:00Speaker 1: You have a thriving Like when I say thriving, I
- 26:03Speaker 1: mean that in all capital levels to God vis glory. Man.
- 26:08Speaker 5: Listen, you're unpacking some major stuff. The comparison conundrum, let
- 26:13Speaker 5: me call it that. Man. It's a lot a lot
- 26:18Speaker 5: of red tape to that conversation because you know, I
- 26:22Speaker 5: have to reach back to the origin of my religious affiliation.
- 26:27Speaker 5: You know, growing up in Pentecostal Apostolic you know, given
- 26:31Speaker 5: these models of ministry where they're more cosmetic oriented, like pants,
- 26:37Speaker 5: no pants and no makeup for the ladies. Guys couldn't
- 26:40Speaker 5: wear certain things. You know, the appropriate attire for church
- 26:45Speaker 5: is a suit, you know, church clothes. And you know,
- 26:50Speaker 5: so you come out of that type of context and
- 26:57Speaker 5: you get compared to your your colleagues that grew up
- 27:01Speaker 5: with you in that regard. You also, you know, go
- 27:05Speaker 5: through the comparisons of your originality versus others and what
- 27:10Speaker 5: they're doing. And then of course you have those individuals
- 27:14Speaker 5: that kind of treat you in some instances as the
- 27:18Speaker 5: example of what others should be. So with comparison, there's
- 27:23Speaker 5: the temptation to become prideful, and with the comparison, there's
- 27:28Speaker 5: the temptation to become insecure. Insecure because as blessed as
- 27:35Speaker 5: my church is, there's another church that's doing bigger things
- 27:39Speaker 5: than mine, and they're more well known than my church.
- 27:44Speaker 5: And so that type of that challenge is ever pressing.
- 27:53Speaker 5: But we gotta know that comparison kills. Comparison kills originality,
- 28:00Speaker 5: Comparison kills creativity, Comparison kills faith. It hinders patience because
- 28:08Speaker 5: a lot of times we're trying to pace ourselves with
- 28:10Speaker 5: the pace of others, and then sometimes if that if
- 28:14Speaker 5: they're far behind us, it can make us be too
- 28:17Speaker 5: complacent with where we are because, man.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Look at what I've achieved.
- 28:21Speaker 5: But God is saying, yeah, but that that ain't all
- 28:23Speaker 5: that I've got for you. You know, you're you're a
- 28:27Speaker 5: five talent girl. You you know you need to be
- 28:30Speaker 5: at ten. You're at eight. You're doing good, but you
- 28:33Speaker 5: need ten, you know, And so just overcoming that it
- 28:37Speaker 5: takes a lot of prayer. And it also it's very
- 28:42Speaker 5: important that we are intentional about the circle that we
- 28:47Speaker 5: keep around us. We have to have people around us
- 28:50Speaker 5: that that do not get us in that conversation, that comparison,
- 28:55Speaker 5: in that competition, we have to resisted, you know. And
- 29:00Speaker 5: I look at myself honestly as I realize that when
- 29:05Speaker 5: I walk in a room, I'm there to bring something,
- 29:08Speaker 5: not just to get something. So I try to operate
- 29:11Speaker 5: in the duality of getting and bringing. And so one
- 29:15Speaker 5: of the things I see in ministry amongst so many
- 29:18Speaker 5: preachers is comparison. So I try to bring my authenticity
- 29:24Speaker 5: into the room, my love into the room, and my
- 29:27Speaker 5: honor into the room for everybody, regardless to their demographic
- 29:31Speaker 5: and their contextualized situation. And I try to model that
- 29:35Speaker 5: before other pastors so that others will kind of let
- 29:38Speaker 5: down their God and say, you know what, it's okay
- 29:41Speaker 5: for us to not get to know each other vicariously
- 29:44Speaker 5: through what we've achieved, which is people. That's so I mean,
- 29:48Speaker 5: I want to tell people like bro, I don't care
- 29:50Speaker 5: who you think you are, You're just the person you know.
- 29:54Speaker 5: And the truth of the matter is, I'm keenly aware
- 29:58Speaker 5: of the fact that what God has done for me
- 30:01Speaker 5: is a grace on my life. And I can be
- 30:05Speaker 5: as intentional as I want to be in trying to
- 30:07Speaker 5: teach somebody how to do it the way God showed
- 30:11Speaker 5: it to me. But the truth is people cannot produce
- 30:14Speaker 5: what they're not grace to produce. And their grace, whatever
- 30:22Speaker 5: the grace looks like from a metrics perspective, it does
- 30:27Speaker 5: not speak to the context of your worth.
- 30:37Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 30:39Speaker 1: That's so good because that's what That's what comparison. That's
- 30:44Speaker 1: why you say comparison kills, because it kills the value
- 30:48Speaker 1: the perception. It was like, I'm doing it, I'm doing
- 30:51Speaker 1: even that if it's not a new thing, I'm doing
- 30:53Speaker 1: a thing. I'm doing a thing. Do you not perceive it?
- 30:56Speaker 1: You can't perceive it because your perception of somebody else
- 30:59Speaker 1: is so blinding to your development.
- 31:03Speaker 5: Listen, humility must be the portion of anyone in ministry,
- 31:10Speaker 5: anyone in life. And what does that look like in
- 31:14Speaker 5: this this context of what we're talking about. We've got
- 31:17Speaker 5: to learn how to to accept the accolades that we receive,
- 31:23Speaker 5: but wear them loosely. You know, Uh my, I have
- 31:28Speaker 5: people who know me know that. You know, most of
- 31:31Speaker 5: the time, if you say anything good about me, I'm
- 31:34Speaker 5: gonna say to God be the glory.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Yeah, you.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Say that every time.
- 31:40Speaker 5: It's crazy. You know some people that come to me
- 31:42Speaker 5: and say you're the city's pastor. And but if I
- 31:45Speaker 5: say I'm the city's pastor, I just corrupted myself because
- 31:51Speaker 5: that's just their opinion, you know. But if my opinion
- 31:56Speaker 5: gets like I'm the man. Yeah, and like one of
- 31:59Speaker 5: the one of my munchras is there are too many
- 32:00Speaker 5: people walking around here trying to be the best instead
- 32:04Speaker 5: of their best.
- 32:09Speaker 1: He's just gonna keep them silencing us. Huh, delarray, I'm
- 32:15Speaker 1: gonna point out you ain't. You can't see the Woman
- 32:17Speaker 1: of God the way I can see it. But she
- 32:18Speaker 1: even over there speaking and.
- 32:28Speaker 5: It's somebody.
- 32:31Speaker 1: I was like, a woman of God. You gotta stir
- 32:34Speaker 1: over there that you have to release. Go ahead, you
- 32:36Speaker 1: got a mic, your camera, you got a mic. What
- 32:42Speaker 1: was what was your stir up over there?
- 32:44Speaker 2: Because if you got a question, I'm trying to get
- 32:46Speaker 2: you from He.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Just you know, I just sit here and I just
- 32:50Speaker 1: I just be listening, just taking it all in some
- 32:52Speaker 1: self evaluation. You know what I'm saying, want you over
- 32:54Speaker 1: the self evaluating the Man of God is hensation that
- 32:57Speaker 1: we had about about your teaching.
- 32:59Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, I just.
- 33:03Speaker 1: Not that, not that, not that one. The comparison conversation,
- 33:07Speaker 1: you know, Jessica. Now we're gonna go there because we
- 33:11Speaker 1: use our relationship as an example all the time. And
- 33:13Speaker 1: we had a conversation not too long ago regarding we're
- 33:16Speaker 1: both are in different levels of ministry, right, and God
- 33:21Speaker 1: calls her to do certain things. God calls me to
- 33:23Speaker 1: do certain things, and God calls both of us to
- 33:25Speaker 1: do certain things together.
- 33:26Speaker 2: I eat this podcast, right.
- 33:28Speaker 1: And so it's hard to work with somebody so great
- 33:32Speaker 1: and so oily.
- 33:34Speaker 2: And I'm talking about Delia Ray and she's tell again.
- 33:39Speaker 5: It's all on her. Yeah, yes, it's it's in her presence,
- 33:43Speaker 5: it's in her posture, like she carries major oil, and
- 33:47Speaker 5: the creative grace on her life is humongous. Like this
- 33:52Speaker 5: is just not even a snippet of what God's gonna do.
- 33:57Speaker 5: It's it's it's huge, it's huge. It's a wait to carry.
- 34:02Speaker 5: But you're equipped equipped. I'm glad. I know you now
- 34:11Speaker 5: don't forget us.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Okay, man, I thank you for that.
- 34:19Speaker 1: And I was gonna, you know, pause my friend, BABYZ
- 34:21Speaker 1: because it's if we can catch up, we can be
- 34:25Speaker 1: captivated with the comparison and then missed out on the
- 34:29Speaker 1: blessing of the relationship. Absolutely, and so I'm glad you
- 34:33Speaker 1: said that. And it sounds like you you went through
- 34:38Speaker 1: that process. So from twenty to twenty eight, right in
- 34:41Speaker 1: that gap, you learn how to not only minister, but
- 34:44Speaker 1: you know how told you built your character in that time.
- 34:47Speaker 1: And so when God blessed you, you've always been in
- 34:51Speaker 1: A and C.
- 34:51Speaker 5: Right, yes, well, well so this is how this happened. Right,
- 34:56Speaker 5: And I'm I'm gonna be as quick as I can.
- 34:58Speaker 5: You're fine, you got okay. So in twenty twenty, let's see,
- 35:05Speaker 5: two thousand and eight, I received a call at my
- 35:09Speaker 5: job from my middle sister and she's a nurse. She
- 35:13Speaker 5: works with I'll declare the end from the beginning. Sister
- 35:17Speaker 5: Linda Jones, who was my personal assistant. Excuse me, we
- 35:21Speaker 5: call that SJ. SJ had heard me preach at a
- 35:25Speaker 5: church in Birmingham. I didn't know her, and that was
- 35:30Speaker 5: a church that she used to attend that she no
- 35:33Speaker 5: longer was a member of, but it needed a pastor.
- 35:36Speaker 5: The membership had dwindled down to like sixteen people, with
- 35:40Speaker 5: about eight faithful. Her brother was the head deacon. They
- 35:45Speaker 5: were without a pastor for about two years and they
- 35:48Speaker 5: were in search of someone, and she heard me preach
- 35:53Speaker 5: here in the city. And she knew my sister because
- 35:57Speaker 5: they worked in the medical field together, and she said,
- 36:01Speaker 5: I know a church that I believe your brother would
- 36:05Speaker 5: be a great pastor for this church. And my sister
- 36:11Speaker 5: called me about it, and that's how this thing happened.
- 36:16Speaker 5: So I started preaching there with the permission of my
- 36:20Speaker 5: then pastor. I was the minister of music at that church,
- 36:24Speaker 5: so he would allow me to go whenever they called.
- 36:27Speaker 5: And that started in two thousand and seven. I'm sorry,
- 36:32Speaker 5: excuse me. In two thousand and seven, that's when that started.
- 36:34Speaker 5: That process started. They called me as pastor in two
- 36:38Speaker 5: thousand and eight. June of two thousand and eight, they
- 36:41Speaker 5: voted me in. It was about sixteen votes. I believe
- 36:44Speaker 5: it was took over the ministry. The ministry had some
- 36:49Speaker 5: legal things going on. When I got there, there was
- 36:53Speaker 5: a mortgage that had been taken from the former administration,
- 36:57Speaker 5: and the people said that they did not agree to
- 37:01Speaker 5: have the church mortgaged because it had been I think
- 37:06Speaker 5: paid off originally, and so they refused to pay the mortgage.
- 37:12Speaker 5: So we were in a court case. Wow. We lost
- 37:15Speaker 5: the court case. I was able to renegotiate the mortgage
- 37:20Speaker 5: with the bank to get it to where we could
- 37:22Speaker 5: afford it, but the people still refused. So the building
- 37:26Speaker 5: was foreclosed on within six months of me coming to
- 37:30Speaker 5: Birmingham and we went to another location first Sunday there
- 37:36Speaker 5: it's like fifteen people in church. That was the day.
- 37:40Speaker 5: That was the first Sunday in two thousand and nine.
- 37:43Speaker 5: January two thousand and nine, SJ joins the church that day.
- 37:47Speaker 5: She's my first member of the new year. Right. And
- 37:51Speaker 5: our attorney meets with us the following year and he says,
- 37:55Speaker 5: it's too much red tape around this ministry. I have
- 38:00Speaker 5: to dissolve it and start your own. So I dissolved
- 38:07Speaker 5: that church. It's no longer in existence.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Wow.
- 38:10Speaker 5: And the Lord blessed me to found my own church.
- 38:15Speaker 5: And then the first name of it, we called it
- 38:17Speaker 5: Worship and Deliverance Ministries and we were affectionately known around
- 38:23Speaker 5: the city as WDM for quite some time. And then
- 38:27Speaker 5: in twenty fifteen, the Lord gave me a dream about
- 38:32Speaker 5: the next phase of the vision for the church, and
- 38:36Speaker 5: he showed me thousands of people blah blah blah blah blah.
- 38:39Speaker 5: And in the dream, the spirit said, I want you
- 38:41Speaker 5: to call it All Nations Church. And when he said church,
- 38:45Speaker 5: it was so loud in my sleep I woke up.
- 38:48Speaker 5: I was in tears, speaking in tongues. My wife grabbed
- 38:52Speaker 5: me in the middle of the night, like, what is
- 38:54Speaker 5: wrong with you?
- 38:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yea, yeah, exactly exactly.
- 39:02Speaker 5: Have you lost your mind? That type of thing. But
- 39:05Speaker 5: I had to tell her, like, baby, I'm good. God
- 39:07Speaker 5: just showed me the next phase of our vision. I
- 39:09Speaker 5: had never heard of All Nations, so I googled All
- 39:13Speaker 5: Nations Church on my phone then and I didn't see
- 39:17Speaker 5: any All Nations church. I saw All Nations Worship assembly.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:21Speaker 5: And so in twenty sixteen, we purchased a property where
- 39:26Speaker 5: we are now. We close on a December the thirtieth,
- 39:29Speaker 5: twenty sixteen, and we moved in in February, and we
- 39:33Speaker 5: moved in as all Nations.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Wait, wait, that last statement was so weighted. I was
- 39:42Speaker 1: going to ask you what we moved in as.
- 39:45Speaker 5: Yes, yes, yeah, God told me. God told me, don't
- 39:48Speaker 5: go in with the old glory, go in with the
- 39:50Speaker 5: new glory, you know. So I met with our church
- 39:54Speaker 5: and I say, hey, you know, I've been holding this
- 39:55Speaker 5: trump card for about a year plus. Now. God gave
- 39:58Speaker 5: me another name for our church, and I told him
- 40:02Speaker 5: our church will be the name of it will be changing.
- 40:04Speaker 5: That was no rebuttal. Everyone was unanimously on one accord
- 40:10Speaker 5: and we got everything change our five oh one c three,
- 40:14Speaker 5: our articles of incorporation. We went in with everything changed
- 40:20Speaker 5: to all Nations Church.
- 40:22Speaker 1: The power statement in it, and it's ability to change
- 40:27Speaker 1: for me like you at this point. So, how many
- 40:30Speaker 1: years were you pastor at this point? From so you
- 40:33Speaker 1: said two thousand and seven, two thousand and eight to
- 40:37Speaker 1: twenty sixteen. So you've been doing this for eight years. Yes,
- 40:44Speaker 1: I'm trying to not shout right now because I'm having
- 40:46Speaker 1: so much revelation. Our conversation is ridiculous. So you're doing
- 40:50Speaker 1: this for eight years? God gives you a dream, one
- 40:55Speaker 1: circumstance that changes the trajectory.
- 40:59Speaker 5: Yes of the next yes, yes.
- 41:02Speaker 1: And so not only that, no one buked against you
- 41:06Speaker 1: to do that. I think this is why I'm gonna
- 41:09Speaker 1: go ahead and give you my opinion.
- 41:10Speaker 5: Bishop, you ready forward, I'm ready.
- 41:12Speaker 1: There's something that is consistent about you. Wow, there's a
- 41:17Speaker 1: reason why your membership keeps growing. And the reason why
- 41:22Speaker 1: is because you know how to evolve.
- 41:26Speaker 5: You gonna make me cry now.
- 41:27Speaker 1: No, there is a stubbornness in the in churches that
- 41:34Speaker 1: when it's time to grow and go that we don't
- 41:37Speaker 1: get to.
- 41:37Speaker 2: They say, what is this? This generation? This babe?
- 41:41Speaker 1: I see all types of generations at A and C
- 41:44Speaker 1: and it's like, you go, it's a melting pot.
- 41:46Speaker 5: There.
- 41:46Speaker 2: There's one white white girl. She's so pretty. I don't
- 41:49Speaker 2: know what her name is.
- 41:49Speaker 1: She came to Profetica on one day and I didn't
- 41:51Speaker 1: realize she was a member, but she's really popular on TikTok.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Yeah you know, yeah, beautiful young lady. But she's so
- 41:58Speaker 1: out for God. And I'm like, you're bringing different different backgrounds,
- 42:02Speaker 1: different races, different.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Age groups to one nation, to all.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Nations, and it's like the reason why God can trust
- 42:10Speaker 1: you with all nations because you had the art of evolving,
- 42:15Speaker 1: Like you learn the art of that. And so it's like,
- 42:19Speaker 1: I think that people have an opportunity because they can't
- 42:22Speaker 1: compare something where they're not willing to do.
- 42:25Speaker 5: Wow.
- 42:26Speaker 1: Wow, that's the danger of comparing something like somebody I
- 42:29Speaker 1: ain't no possible, but if I was.
- 42:31Speaker 2: You know, he's saying that.
- 42:35Speaker 1: If I am that person right, comparing myself to you,
- 42:40Speaker 1: do I have the grace or the grit enough to
- 42:43Speaker 1: alter when God says go.
- 42:45Speaker 5: I say this to pastors all the time. I've I've
- 42:50Speaker 5: experienced a tremendous amount of criticism down through the years.
- 42:55Speaker 5: It has been one of the hallmarks of my ministry.
- 42:59Speaker 5: It's something that I've seemingly not been able to get
- 43:03Speaker 5: away from people that will not just sit down and
- 43:07Speaker 5: have a conversation. But you know, it's not It's not complicated.
- 43:13Speaker 5: You know, though it is complicated, it's not. I tell
- 43:18Speaker 5: every pastor, every business owner, every leader, anybody doing anything,
- 43:26Speaker 5: You've got to have the courage to obey what God
- 43:32Speaker 5: says and every point in your life and not be
- 43:38Speaker 5: so wrapped up into the collateral damage. You know. Of course,
- 43:44Speaker 5: we try to do things in a methodical and strategic way,
- 43:50Speaker 5: but like you said, there are a lot of pastors
- 43:52Speaker 5: who are anointed, but they're not sensitive to what God
- 43:56Speaker 5: is saying. We will place. We will place a case
- 44:04Speaker 5: in point. There was a rock that followed Israel through
- 44:10Speaker 5: the wilderness. We know in the New Testament. The rock
- 44:13Speaker 5: was Jesus. But when the children of Israel god thirsty.
- 44:18Speaker 5: The first time, God says to Moses, have you paid
- 44:23Speaker 5: attention to the rock that's been moving with y'all? And
- 44:27Speaker 5: Moses is like, yeah, I kind of noticed that. He
- 44:29Speaker 5: was like, I need you to hit that rock with
- 44:32Speaker 5: your rod, and Moses goes in. He hits the rock
- 44:37Speaker 5: with this rod. Right fresh water came out, quench the
- 44:41Speaker 5: thirst of the people. A second time, they got thirsty,
- 44:47Speaker 5: same rock, but God says, this time, Moses, don't hit it,
- 44:52Speaker 5: speak to it, and the fresh water will come out. Moses,
- 44:58Speaker 5: for some reason, was not able to pivot in that moment,
- 45:02Speaker 5: and he hit it again. And the issue with a
- 45:08Speaker 5: lot of people, a lot of passes, is that they
- 45:12Speaker 5: did what Moses did and noticed this. When Moses hit
- 45:17Speaker 5: the rock, the water came out. But in that moment,
- 45:21Speaker 5: simultaneously God disqualified him. And a lot of pastors are
- 45:27Speaker 5: doing the same thing that God told them to do yesterday,
- 45:30Speaker 5: and they're getting some results, but their ministries are on
- 45:35Speaker 5: a downward spiral because the disqualification factor is there, and
- 45:41Speaker 5: it's because they're not going with God. They're going with methods.
- 45:49Speaker 5: The method becomes the golden calf.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Okay, some of my listeners are not as deep into
- 46:03Speaker 1: the words, So can you explain the idea of the
- 46:06Speaker 1: golden calf real quick?
- 46:08Speaker 5: Absolutely, the golden calf is the thing that replaces the
- 46:13Speaker 5: invisible God when we start. It's it's something tangible. We
- 46:19Speaker 5: know that the golden calf emerged when Moses went up
- 46:24Speaker 5: to the mountain to get the instructions from God. The people,
- 46:29Speaker 5: because Moses was taking too long, convinced Aaron to make
- 46:34Speaker 5: them something that they could see, something that they was tangible,
- 46:38Speaker 5: that they could rely on to make a God out of.
- 46:44Speaker 5: And oftentimes we fall in love with the methods that
- 46:49Speaker 5: God gives us because you know, of course, the goal
- 46:54Speaker 5: that they had, it came from God, you know, the
- 46:57Speaker 5: king it was. The goal was the reward that God
- 47:01Speaker 5: gave them for getting out of Egypt. He said, don't
- 47:03Speaker 5: leave empty handed. Take this with you. And they took
- 47:08Speaker 5: the blessing of the Lord, and they replaced God's God's logos,
- 47:16Speaker 5: God's rayma with God's blessings and God's methods. And a
- 47:25Speaker 5: lot of people are doing that today out of flesh,
- 47:28Speaker 5: out of frustration, out of leaning to our own understanding,
- 47:34Speaker 5: you know, out of just sheer disobedience, you know. And
- 47:39Speaker 5: that's been one of my challenges and one of my
- 47:44Speaker 5: motives with pastors to say, listen, honor God's voice, even
- 47:48Speaker 5: if the city trashes you. God's voice. I'm not saying
- 47:53Speaker 5: gimmick your way into greater. I'm saying follow the voice,
- 47:58Speaker 5: because there are some people that are employing gimmicks and
- 48:01Speaker 5: they're getting a response. Come on, but that response is
- 48:06Speaker 5: not producing transformation.
- 48:09Speaker 2: You just you said something.
- 48:10Speaker 1: When you said the response, what I heard was they
- 48:14Speaker 1: might be getting a response, but they're not getting the reward.
- 48:19Speaker 1: And a lot of times we think the response of
- 48:22Speaker 1: man is the reward, and God will allow that to
- 48:24Speaker 1: be our reward.
- 48:27Speaker 2: He will allow that.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Like even when we talk about David coming up with Saul,
- 48:33Speaker 1: was he wanted the response. He was so sold into
- 48:37Speaker 1: those response of people and not sold out for God,
- 48:41Speaker 1: so that God gave him back to the people.
- 48:46Speaker 5: He was addicted to people of validation. And it's impossible
- 48:51Speaker 5: to be loyal to God and a people pleaser.
- 48:58Speaker 2: God, please take me for being the people.
- 49:00Speaker 5: Please.
- 49:01Speaker 2: That's a struggle. I ain't even act like that one
- 49:03Speaker 2: for me.
- 49:05Speaker 1: Man.
- 49:07Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, at some point this is what we don't
- 49:11Speaker 5: like in our god journey, A lot of people don't
- 49:13Speaker 5: like this is that God will give you moments of
- 49:17Speaker 5: highs with people and the crowd and everything. But everybody
- 49:21Speaker 5: goes through the litmus test. Everyone. No one escapes this
- 49:24Speaker 5: litmus test where you have to decide between the crowd
- 49:30Speaker 5: and Christ, where you have to make a decision that's
- 49:36Speaker 5: gonna make you unpopular, where you have to get what
- 49:41Speaker 5: I now call where you have to get bad press.
- 49:47Speaker 5: And if you are intertwined and wrapped up into the
- 49:52Speaker 5: validation of people, the approval of people and their co
- 49:56Speaker 5: signature and them off on you that you're a good girl,
- 50:01Speaker 5: a good guy, that can become a hinderance to bonafide obedience.
- 50:10Speaker 5: You know, Jesus had his moment. You know, the crowds
- 50:14Speaker 5: were coming. He was preaching, he was healing folks. But
- 50:17Speaker 5: then he had to say hard things like if you
- 50:21Speaker 5: don't eat my flesh and drink my blood, you won't
- 50:24Speaker 5: have any part with me. And Scripture says many walked
- 50:27Speaker 5: away from him. He had to say certain things, and
- 50:29Speaker 5: then when it came to the cross, all the disciples
- 50:33Speaker 5: left him. You know, nobody gets to get away from
- 50:40Speaker 5: that litmus test. So we have to decide do we
- 50:44Speaker 5: want people or do we want purpose? And are we
- 50:50Speaker 5: willing to sacrifice purpose in the name of people? And
- 50:56Speaker 5: that's why you have to watch you your date, who
- 50:58Speaker 5: you marry, what kind of brands you bring into your life.
- 51:02Speaker 5: You need people in your life that know who you are,
- 51:07Speaker 5: not just on a common level, but on a sacred level,
- 51:11Speaker 5: so that when you have to make hard decisions, they're
- 51:15Speaker 5: not antagonizing you.
- 51:20Speaker 1: You just came into my house. You definitely just came
- 51:24Speaker 1: into my house because I'm at at that market point.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Of will you choose me this day?
- 51:32Speaker 1: Like the things that you thought were good in this season,
- 51:37Speaker 1: there's a cut off point for that is the only
- 51:39Speaker 1: thing that's eternal, has eternal life, is me and realizing
- 51:44Speaker 1: that and coming into agreement is with that. It's one
- 51:48Speaker 1: thing acting on the knowledge.
- 51:52Speaker 5: Yish will be all.
- 51:54Speaker 1: Day talking and I'm just like you. You didn't You
- 51:57Speaker 1: didn't feed my brain with that one.
- 51:59Speaker 5: Yes, well, you got to lose to win, you know.
- 52:02Speaker 5: I think Fantasious said that, you know, it's it's some
- 52:13Speaker 5: it's some prophetic alle on that. Yeah, you know, let
- 52:18Speaker 5: me just tell you something. What people say all nations
- 52:20Speaker 5: have come with a price, and we are in another shift,
- 52:26Speaker 5: you know, as a church. And you know, I've had
- 52:29Speaker 5: to make hard decisions even as of recent that have
- 52:34Speaker 5: not been popular and been painful for me. You know,
- 52:37Speaker 5: I'm collateral damage in it because again yours, you're you're
- 52:42Speaker 5: in that paradox or will you be loyal to God
- 52:45Speaker 5: or will you be loyal to they're liking you? Then
- 52:50Speaker 5: you know, we don't do things intentionally to be disliked,
- 52:54Speaker 5: like weed around here trying to just stir the pot,
- 52:57Speaker 5: you know, But God says, I always want to know,
- 53:01Speaker 5: at whatever level I take you to, that I have
- 53:04Speaker 5: your heart. I always want to know that I can
- 53:10Speaker 5: trust you to carry out the assignment. That was. That
- 53:14Speaker 5: is what distinguished David from Saul is that whatever God
- 53:19Speaker 5: said do, he was gonna he was gonna execute to
- 53:24Speaker 5: the t. And he wasn't gonna he wasn't gonna intermingle
- 53:28Speaker 5: his own personal preferences in that. I was just telling
- 53:32Speaker 5: one of my spiritual signs this week, I said, and
- 53:36Speaker 5: I told my children that, I said, if you if
- 53:38Speaker 5: you're gonna be emotional, if you're gonna let your emotions
- 53:44Speaker 5: affect your ministry, then get out of ministry, be emotional,
- 53:51Speaker 5: but at the end of the day, be about the
- 53:54Speaker 5: agenda of God in spite of the emotions.
- 54:00Speaker 2: I was about to let you go, but you just
- 54:02Speaker 2: said something.
- 54:05Speaker 1: I and I said, I'm not gonna ask him that, Lord,
- 54:07Speaker 1: and He's like, no asking this, So I'm gonna ask
- 54:09Speaker 1: you this. This is kind of a pity because when
- 54:12Speaker 1: you said spiritual son, this is an open door, okay,
- 54:17Speaker 1: And I'm gonna let me preference this question as we
- 54:21Speaker 1: stayed it before p K recognized PK. And one of
- 54:25Speaker 1: the things that I identify as an adult is the
- 54:28Speaker 1: strain that being a p K put on the relations
- 54:32Speaker 1: the daughter father daughter relationship.
- 54:37Speaker 2: Of me and my dad. And I didn't know how
- 54:39Speaker 2: to just be his daughter. I only knew how to
- 54:42Speaker 2: be the servant.
- 54:45Speaker 1: And so I'm curious to know your your expertise in
- 54:49Speaker 1: that area of not only being a PK, but being
- 54:52Speaker 1: a pastor, and you having children who are beautiful, by
- 54:55Speaker 1: the way, so proud of the.
- 54:59Speaker 2: Lord, like I'll see her phones and I was like,
- 55:01Speaker 2: oh my god, she's doing so good. How has that?
- 55:06Speaker 1: How has have you developed as a father or I
- 55:09Speaker 1: wish you have could have done better in certain areas
- 55:13Speaker 1: being the pastor that you are, because you carry a
- 55:16Speaker 1: lot away that I know, they kind of like made
- 55:19Speaker 1: to touch the area.
- 55:20Speaker 2: But I was like, I don't know if I want
- 55:21Speaker 2: to touch the.
- 55:22Speaker 1: Area, but I'm about to see.
- 55:25Speaker 5: Well, you know, I think I had a little advantage
- 55:31Speaker 5: on other leaders because I am a p K and
- 55:34Speaker 5: that kind of shaped and formed my view of parenting
- 55:42Speaker 5: in a more positive way because I know what it's
- 55:45Speaker 5: like to feel rejected and neglected in the name of ministry.
- 55:52Speaker 5: If you know, there's always room for improvement in anything
- 55:55Speaker 5: that we do, right, but if there's anything, I I
- 56:00Speaker 5: probably neglected ministry more to be a family man. You know,
- 56:06Speaker 5: I probably could have, like our church as well, over
- 56:09Speaker 5: a thousand members now, but you know, to be told it,
- 56:13Speaker 5: i'd probably be at five or six thousand if I
- 56:15Speaker 5: had to just But I don't feel bad about it,
- 56:18Speaker 5: because you know, I was sharing this with some people
- 56:21Speaker 5: this week, like, and I asked my children when they
- 56:25Speaker 5: got of age, I said, you know, have you ever
- 56:27Speaker 5: felt slighted by me when it came down to ministry
- 56:31Speaker 5: God Church? And they like unanimously said absolutely not. But
- 56:39Speaker 5: the truth of the matter is that was a sacrificial
- 56:43Speaker 5: grind that I had. So I'm that guy that will,
- 56:47Speaker 5: you know, take you skating, take you to the movies,
- 56:49Speaker 5: and get home at eleven o'clock and then study before
- 56:53Speaker 5: in the morning. I sacrificed myself, but I did not
- 56:58Speaker 5: sacrifice my family. So you know, the main thing is,
- 57:03Speaker 5: I think we get to a certain place in life
- 57:05Speaker 5: when we like what you were saying, like you wanted to,
- 57:09Speaker 5: you know, be a spiritual daughter basically and make sure
- 57:12Speaker 5: you were serving you know, your father's vision or whatever.
- 57:16Speaker 5: And I get that, and now my children are they
- 57:21Speaker 5: are flowing it more into that thing. Now ministry has
- 57:26Speaker 5: become their thing because I think the thing I just
- 57:30Speaker 5: said this last night that the thing that I that
- 57:33Speaker 5: I wish I could have done different is including my
- 57:37Speaker 5: children more in ministry, growing up like they were there,
- 57:42Speaker 5: but developing them and utilizing them. They had gifts and
- 57:45Speaker 5: talents and skills. And because you know, we were going
- 57:50Speaker 5: to ministry, so we were trying to put out our
- 57:52Speaker 5: best singers, our best dis Yeah, and it led to
- 57:56Speaker 5: the neglect of them. But you know, it's really about
- 58:00Speaker 5: being developing the framework of a father daughter relationship where
- 58:08Speaker 5: that that framework is more centered around us doing life together,
- 58:14Speaker 5: not just doing ministry. You know. So my daughter and
- 58:18Speaker 5: I we have a great relationship. My son and I
- 58:20Speaker 5: have a great relationship we form with my kids. I
- 58:23Speaker 5: talk to them all the time, you know, calling or whatever,
- 58:26Speaker 5: and you know, talking to them about life, money, dating.
- 58:32Speaker 5: And I'm a listener, you know, that's one of my things.
- 58:34Speaker 5: I've done a lot more talking today than I usually do. Yea,
- 58:39Speaker 5: you are, You're pulling it out of me, because even
- 58:42Speaker 5: when people get me on the phone, they just want
- 58:43Speaker 5: to talk, you know. So I'll just listen, you know,
- 58:47Speaker 5: and I and I and I get that I've gained
- 58:48Speaker 5: a lot of wisdom through listening. But just really really
- 58:54Speaker 5: it that that relationship takes a lot of intentionality because
- 58:57Speaker 5: there are a lot of different barriers there, you know.
- 59:01Speaker 5: And you know kind of how our families were sculpted
- 59:04Speaker 5: and molded emotionally. I don't know how it was for you,
- 59:08Speaker 5: but you know, it was a very affectionate in my house,
- 59:11Speaker 5: you know. And my parents they regret a lot of
- 59:14Speaker 5: that stuff, you know, they regret that we were in
- 59:17Speaker 5: church so much. You know, Uh, they regret a lot
- 59:20Speaker 5: of things now that they've gotten older. But I was
- 59:24Speaker 5: just intentional, you know, about spending time. And I prayed
- 59:28Speaker 5: for that too, you know, I prayed for God to
- 59:31Speaker 5: give me a clite, a tight and close relationship with
- 59:36Speaker 5: my children, and he did that. When they get in trouble,
- 59:40Speaker 5: they called him daddy.
- 59:42Speaker 2: That's that's beautiful.
- 59:44Speaker 1: Listen me, and doesn't Ray have talked about it and
- 59:47Speaker 1: that the Lord is forcing us into it. And I
- 59:51Speaker 1: love my dad like my dad is amazing. He is
- 59:53Speaker 1: so amazing, and but we did recognize that, and he
- 59:58Speaker 1: even said that, he was like, I'm done missing out
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: on my family time because I'm so caught up in
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: the church and the church. Now this might not be
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: your church, but I'm talking about his experience. The church
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: doesn't value him enough to reciprocate that, and so now
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: he's depleted as a man because he's put everything into
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: an organization and mismanaged the development of the family. And
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: so he's the one that brought that to me. I
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: was afraid to say it to him. Was for a
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: long time. I'm like, heyb no, you know, I only
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: know this. I only know these areas and I only
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: know how to be a doer because I was a
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: pastor kid. You know what I'm saying, but learning myself
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: outside of that. But also he didn't know better, you
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, and giving him that grace of that.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: So I'm glad God led us to that because I
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: feel like some pastors need to reevaluate the development of
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: how they manage their family versus the church.
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: Absolutely can't. We can't preach and teach this enough. I
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: think this is a very huge part of ministry. Family,
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: you know, marriage, parenting, and really focusing on developing healthy families.
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: You know, And a lot of pastors don't know because
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: you know there are resources out there, but you don't
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: get inundated with those resources right away on how to pastor.
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: And so a lot of pastors are pioneers. They're just
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: jumping on the job and going at it. They don't
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: want to fail God, they don't want to fill the church,
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: and so they're on it, on it, on it. And
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: then in Western culture there have there have been these
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: misnomers and these misrepresentations of the Biblical definition of a pastor.
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: And so now there there is the there are these
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: unspoken demands and these expectations that God never put on
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: a pastor. So what helped me was reading that Bible
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: and saying, wait a minute, this is the job of
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: a pastor. Now, you know, every church needs to have
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: systems of care, because if you don't have systems of care,
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: you're gonna have just gone on members. But that doesn't
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: mean that the pastor have to show up. It means
- 1:02:14Speaker 5: that the pastors. The pastor implements it, he trains it.
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: Because I've seen a lot of pastors that did a
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: lot of catering and then people left him because they
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: didn't have much word. They Yeah they were at everybody's bedside. Yeah,
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: they was at everybody's baby shower. And then the pastor
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: ends up bitter. But yeah, I can't get a fresh
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: revelation if I'm at your every beckoning call. I can't
- 1:02:43Speaker 5: if I'm always on the phone, you know. But the
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: pastor's job, according to scripture, is to feed with knowledge
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: and understanding. And according to Acts chapter six, I believe
- 1:02:55Speaker 5: it is when the apostles had the murmuring in the
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: church because it had grown so much, they appointed seven
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: men to handle the business. They said that we may
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: give ourselves continually to prayer and the ministry of the
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: Word and the and then what I love about that
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: that chapters it says the Word of God increased and
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: the number of disciples multiplied. And I came up with
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: the mantra out of that, when the word gets better,
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: the church gets bigger. That's so good, you know what
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: I'm saying. But the pastor has to have that that exclusivity,
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: excuse me to a certain place so the development and
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: the evolution can keep taking place. Because you can't take
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: people further than where you are.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: That's so good.
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: You can be a nice and loving guy, but shallow
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: in the word because you don't have time with God.
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: You got to you need time to pray, fast, innercede,
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: read study, go to school because that's gonna really continue
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: to make disciples and draw people. And then you set
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: up systems to where people are taken care of so
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: that you can have time with your family.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: That was good.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: That was good right now everything, But I feel like
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: this space has created for you was to not only
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: you know, participate in this podcast, but just bring ministry here.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: And I love this because we talked a lot about
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: the Leader the past, and I know you have a
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: heart for the Leader, and so I'm grateful for this
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: opportunity for you to pour and this being our first
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: episode for this series, for you to pour into those leaders.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: I just want to.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: Say thank you, bister Woods, like I don't think it's
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: gonna be your last time here.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: I think you're gonna be your curring.
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: I'll pay y'all to come by.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: I love it.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: I love it, deil Ray before bere, we can close
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: this saying God, what you got to say? I think
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: the reoccurring thing that it's in my heart my spirit
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: is just go with God. You know, like you know,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: people pleasing is a real thing. But at the end
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: of the day, it's like, what did God say? And
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: you can you can do like like Saw did. He
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: did what people was asking, but God then took his
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: hand off him. You know what I'm saying, And so
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: I wanted to be me. So I'm going God, Amen,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: Jesus Yo, this this man. You dropped what you call
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: the mantras. You dropped so many montress gonna watch this
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: like mantraumer.
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: Oa. So at the end of our our time together.
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: I always ask my guests if there if there was
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: anything that was missed today, if they didn't hear nothing else,
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: give them a final word. Would you what would you say,
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: and I also, after you say your final word, would
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: life for you to pray?
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: Absolutely? Wow. Let me let me just say what's on
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: my heart right now is reminding people to run their
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: own race, to not allow social media to speed you up,
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: and never live vicariously through your calling. Seek to be
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: a whole individual intentionalized healing wherever you're sick. If it's relationships,
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: if it's emotional intelligence, if it's financial, if it's ethical,
- 1:06:50Speaker 5: let that be your primary focus. Getting healed, having a
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: healthy soul, having a real, real healed life, and being
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: in alignment with God. And then live from that vein.
- 1:07:09Speaker 5: That will affect your business, that will affect your ministry,
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: and that will, you know, affect every other demographic of
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: your life. So be selfish in a good way. That's
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: what I'd say.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: I love it.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: I love it.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: Now we're about to get some all.
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: I get my pressure all real quick.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna let his voice be the last voice. But
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: y'all already know what this is. This has been another
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: episode of just ass the beyond the pull pit addition,
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: and we're super excited. But remember, but if anything else,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: life could be much more simple if you just ask
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: and I'm gonna leave it to Bishop Woods.
- 1:07:56Speaker 5: All right, Let's pray, Man, Father God, in Jesus' name, Lord,
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: we are so thankful for your goodness, were so thankful
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: for this conversation that you have allowed and ordained. God,
- 1:08:10Speaker 5: you said the steps of a good man I ordered
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: of the Lord. I thank you God that you have
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: ordered our steps today. And Father, I pray for anyone
- 1:08:21Speaker 5: watching us that if they are confused misguided, Lord, in
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: a place of decision making, I pray that you give
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: clarity to them. Now. I pray, Father, God, that you
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: would redirect and realign our focus on what's the most
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: important things in our lives. And God, I thank you
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: right now that every promise you've made us will come
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: to pass. God, every plan that you have for us
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: will come to fruition. And Father, I thank you that
- 1:08:52Speaker 5: even the negative experiences we've had are going to work
- 1:08:56Speaker 5: for our good. Lead us, guide us, bless us, prosper us,
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: use us, keep us, anoint us, elevate us, and most
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: of all, God, get your glory out of us. In
- 1:09:08Speaker 5: Jesus' name, we pray, Amen, Amen.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: Thank you for tuning in to this week's episode.
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: Since you've made it this far.
