- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to Episode one eleven of Cards
- 0:19Speaker 1: and Categories. I am Mike cool Eard from Rasball, joined
- 0:22Speaker 1: as always by my very good friend Jeremy Brewer, also
- 0:25Speaker 1: from ras Ball. We are in the throws of the
- 0:28Speaker 1: playoffs right now. We are recording on October eighth. We
- 0:32Speaker 1: are right in between the first two DS games of
- 0:36Speaker 1: the elimination day did not eliminate anybody where. It's the
- 0:40Speaker 1: sixth inning of the Toronto Blue Jays New York Yankees
- 0:43Speaker 1: game right now. So if you want to follow along
- 0:46Speaker 1: as we kind of give you live updates, that's where
- 0:48Speaker 1: we're at. But brew how have you been enjoying these
- 0:50Speaker 1: playoffs so far?
- 0:52Speaker 2: They they've been a fun playoffs. It feels like every turn,
- 0:56Speaker 2: every time I think something's going in a certain way,
- 0:58Speaker 2: somebody turns around and makes the diff happened. So I
- 1:00Speaker 2: think it's been very fun to watch so far. Excitement, storylines.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I think there's a little bit of everything right now,
- 1:07Speaker 2: and I think everybody agrees that. I don't know if
- 1:10Speaker 2: you saw the viewership numbers, and those were actually up
- 1:14Speaker 2: the best wild card that we've had, which it was
- 1:17Speaker 2: up over sixty percent compared to last year, just viewership
- 1:21Speaker 2: in general of the Wildcard series. So I think it's
- 1:25Speaker 2: been a fun, fun postseason so far. Even if I've
- 1:27Speaker 2: gotten a few things wrong, it's still been fun.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I think it certainly has helped that.
- 1:32Speaker 1: You know, that Red Sox Yankees series was real fun
- 1:36Speaker 1: and that probably boosted the ratings pretty well going off
- 1:39Speaker 1: of the games.
- 1:40Speaker 2: And I mean that was the most watched wild Card
- 1:43Speaker 2: game so far this season. Yeah, and I mean especially
- 1:47Speaker 2: it kind of spoke to our little millennial hearts as well,
- 1:49Speaker 2: because you know, when we were kind of in the
- 1:52Speaker 2: prime of our junior high high school lives, like, oh
- 1:55Speaker 2: it was was Red Sox Yankees, and so getting back
- 1:58Speaker 2: to it, and like those teams do not like each other,
- 2:01Speaker 2: and you've got Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz goating each
- 2:05Speaker 2: other on the Fox like set up before.
- 2:07Speaker 1: And after the games. It is really fun, and especially
- 2:10Speaker 1: just the players that are there, it does feel like
- 2:13Speaker 1: it's the makings of another kind of great era of
- 2:16Speaker 1: Boston New York clashes. And then yeah, San Diego Chicago
- 2:20Speaker 1: was great. Detroit Cleveland, even though it was rounding roundly
- 2:25Speaker 1: panned as like being boring baseball and so many jokes
- 2:29Speaker 1: I saw in terms of hearkening back to nineteen eighties
- 2:32Speaker 1: baseball in terms of like all singles and you know,
- 2:36Speaker 1: fundamental plays and stuff. That was still an exciting series
- 2:39Speaker 1: going all all three games. And then yeah, we had
- 2:43Speaker 1: the Dodgers sweep the Reds, which wasn't unexpected, I don't think.
- 2:46Speaker 2: And yeah, but they did more convincing fashion than I expected.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Like that's true, like they I mean, yeah, we expected
- 2:53Speaker 2: that to happen, but like they made it look easy.
- 2:56Speaker 1: And yeah, we are on our way right now to
- 3:00Speaker 1: two game fives and the DS it looks like so far,
- 3:03Speaker 1: well actually just one the Detroit Seattle. The off days
- 3:07Speaker 1: and stuff, the staggered off days has really been throwing
- 3:10Speaker 1: me off. So we've only it's two to one between
- 3:12Speaker 1: Chicago and Milwaukee right now, and then it's possible Toronto
- 3:16Speaker 1: finishes it off tonight, but you know, it would be
- 3:19Speaker 1: great to see the Yankees comeback so we can get
- 3:20Speaker 1: another game five there. And we've also got the beginning
- 3:24Speaker 1: of the Dodgers Phillies. Actually it's probably like just about
- 3:28Speaker 1: first pitch as where we're talking right now. So what
- 3:31Speaker 1: moments have really kind of stood out to you so
- 3:33Speaker 1: far out of ever all the action that you've seen,
- 3:36Speaker 1: it has been quite the deluge of fantastic baseball. But moments, players,
- 3:42Speaker 1: plays that stood out to you at all.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean there's a handful. I think, you know,
- 3:49Speaker 2: I was gonna generalized statement. I think we can get
- 3:51Speaker 2: into a little This is like I think young pitching.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Just as a generalized statement, we've seen some big performances
- 3:57Speaker 2: from young guns and that that's been fun. I think
- 4:00Speaker 2: we can also call out I would just say a
- 4:03Speaker 2: few big names in this Blue Jay's Yankees series right now.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Vlad Junior like making an appearance and like making noise
- 4:08Speaker 2: like he's never really, at least in my opinion, been
- 4:12Speaker 2: like a big stage hitter at this point, and he's
- 4:14Speaker 2: definitely doing that right now. And then there's this Air
- 4:17Speaker 2: Judge guy that's trying to like meet him there as well.
- 4:21Speaker 2: And I really I feel like the Yankees have been
- 4:22Speaker 2: care of the back of like two players this entire
- 4:25Speaker 2: postseason with Cam Cam Slipper Slitler and Aaron Judge. Between
- 4:30Speaker 2: those two, that the Yankees would not still still be
- 4:33Speaker 2: in the in the playoffs here. And I think the
- 4:36Speaker 2: the other thing that I would call out is it
- 4:39Speaker 2: feels like the Phillies don't quite know what they're doing.
- 4:42Speaker 2: They made some bad choices on the bass paths they have,
- 4:46Speaker 2: like their bullpen rotation choices have been a little questionable.
- 4:52Speaker 2: It seems like they're not quite sure what's going on
- 4:54Speaker 2: and there and the Phillies faithful make sure that they
- 4:58Speaker 2: know it, if you know what I mean. So those
- 5:02Speaker 2: are some of the key things that have stuck out
- 5:04Speaker 2: to me at this point. How about you one of
- 5:06Speaker 2: the big things that have jumped out to you so far?
- 5:08Speaker 1: I think the first thing that's kind of stood out
- 5:11Speaker 1: to me is but some of the big taters that
- 5:13Speaker 1: we've seen between that air and judge home run last
- 5:17Speaker 1: night where he daunted it off the foul pole, just
- 5:19Speaker 1: did feel like Judge got just all of the demons
- 5:23Speaker 1: kind of out of his system with that homer and
- 5:25Speaker 1: turned around a Louis Varlin one hundred miles in our
- 5:28Speaker 1: pitch that was like a foot inside just got in
- 5:31Speaker 1: front of it and just drilled it off the foul
- 5:33Speaker 1: pole to put the Yankees back into that game, and
- 5:35Speaker 1: then they just trounced them from there on out. Although
- 5:39Speaker 1: it looks like the Blue Jays bullpen chaos game is
- 5:42Speaker 1: holding up so far tonight, but that was I think
- 5:45Speaker 1: cool to see, just to just to allow Judge to
- 5:49Speaker 1: be able to kind of show some postseats and success,
- 5:51Speaker 1: because I mean, I think it would be unfortunate for
- 5:54Speaker 1: him to kind of go down as this generation's or
- 5:57Speaker 1: maybe even like MLB's greatest hitter time like it's been
- 6:01Speaker 1: Bondsie in and then if he has to kind of
- 6:04Speaker 1: always wear that that mark, that stain of having no
- 6:08Speaker 1: postseason success, at least you know he has that homer
- 6:11Speaker 1: to look at. The other homer I think about is
- 6:13Speaker 1: last night we also saw cal Rawley hit a sixty
- 6:16Speaker 1: first homer of the season to the guy wearing the
- 6:18Speaker 1: double shirts.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I forgot to bring that.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So if you haven't seen this clip, there was a
- 6:24Speaker 1: guy sitting in left field in Detroit, which incredible because
- 6:29Speaker 1: this is a left handed homer from cal Rally. So
- 6:31Speaker 1: we had to go Apo Taco hit it right to
- 6:34Speaker 1: the guy and the shirt says Cal hit sixty one. Here,
- 6:37Speaker 1: rips off the shirt and it says Cal hit sixty
- 6:40Speaker 1: two here. The guy was back at the game today.
- 6:42Speaker 1: He met cal Rawley last night. Just like a great
- 6:44Speaker 1: little story I am really looking forward to that game
- 6:48Speaker 1: five between seattleed and Detroit. It's going to be a
- 6:50Speaker 1: barn burner between George Kirby and Tarique Scoble going at
- 6:54Speaker 1: each other that like I would be not wanting to
- 6:58Speaker 1: be in that situation find the Mayn having to face
- 7:01Speaker 1: triaks Google to be able to get into the Alcs,
- 7:03Speaker 1: But it kind of feels like that's pretty fitting for
- 7:06Speaker 1: that franchise. The third homer, This is probably my favorite
- 7:10Speaker 1: moment was in yesterday, Yeah, Yesterday's game with Milwaukee that
- 7:16Speaker 1: Andrew Andrew Vaughn bomb in the in the first inning
- 7:20Speaker 1: to tie the game back up and send just really
- 7:24Speaker 1: like I was going bananas over that. Great to see
- 7:27Speaker 1: Andrew vaugh succeed in this this playoff run and kind
- 7:29Speaker 1: of have that big moment and really like the Brewers
- 7:33Speaker 1: have some sort of special magic. They couldn't pull it
- 7:36Speaker 1: out tonight, but I think they are going to rally
- 7:39Speaker 1: past those Cubs that you know, it was a little
- 7:40Speaker 1: bit of like a dying breath from the Cubs and
- 7:43Speaker 1: things have really been put together well in Milwaukee. And
- 7:46Speaker 1: then maybe the last moment is just the the head
- 7:49Speaker 1: over heels catched by Ryan McMahon in the wild Card
- 7:52Speaker 1: series going into the dugout in Boston. As you know,
- 7:55Speaker 1: the Yankees came back in that series and clinched it.
- 7:58Speaker 1: So lots of kind of scene out moments, and I'm
- 8:00Speaker 1: just looking forward to where the rest of these playoffs
- 8:02Speaker 1: go because they've been a blast. We've gotten some of
- 8:06Speaker 1: like the best teams I think in the field in
- 8:08Speaker 1: terms of what we've seen all season, and so it's
- 8:10Speaker 1: really setting up for I think a pretty classic last
- 8:14Speaker 1: couple of weeks of the season here.
- 8:16Speaker 2: I want to throw one more in there. I also
- 8:18Speaker 2: think Jackson Curio getting hurt and then coming back and
- 8:21Speaker 2: hit a bomb, like just adding to your homers. Like
- 8:24Speaker 2: I when the reporters came out of like inconclusive imagen results,
- 8:28Speaker 2: I'm like, that's like that's not negative, that's not positive.
- 8:31Speaker 2: That's just not good. And then he's back in the
- 8:33Speaker 2: light up. Then they're like, eh, he's And I love
- 8:35Speaker 2: the fact that they're like, he's not one hundred percent,
- 8:37Speaker 2: but he's still what we need. And then he comes
- 8:40Speaker 2: out there just laces a massive homer, and so like, yeah,
- 8:44Speaker 2: that's playoff baseball for you. It wasn't quite Kirk Gibson's style,
- 8:47Speaker 2: but like it was still you know, fun to see.
- 8:50Speaker 2: So there's been a lot of highlights so far. That's
- 8:52Speaker 2: absolute for sure.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean, let's get back to the talking
- 8:56Speaker 1: point that you brought up in terms of just some
- 8:58Speaker 1: of the performances we've seen out of the young pitchers
- 9:00Speaker 1: so far, some of our favorites from the season that
- 9:03Speaker 1: we hyped up on this pod or in my piece,
- 9:06Speaker 1: especially for the waiver wire between We've seen an absolutely
- 9:11Speaker 1: historic performance from Cam Schlitzler in the in the wild
- 9:14Speaker 1: Card it was more big mixed bag tonight, but still
- 9:18Speaker 1: he looks like he's gonna be a certain kind of
- 9:22Speaker 1: staple of that Yankees rotation as long as he can
- 9:24Speaker 1: stay healthy going to the future. You know, the twelve
- 9:27Speaker 1: k's in that wild Card outing just absolutely dominant over
- 9:31Speaker 1: eight innings. We've seen a great tray of savage out
- 9:34Speaker 1: in two with eleven k's in his win in the
- 9:37Speaker 1: wild Card series. And then we've also seen Jacob Missiowski
- 9:42Speaker 1: stepping back up, who had you know, a rough last
- 9:45Speaker 1: few months of the season, came back pumping the heat,
- 9:49Speaker 1: looking excited against the Cubs, and then i mean maybe
- 9:52Speaker 1: the saving grace for all baseball card collectors in twenty
- 9:55Speaker 1: twenty five, possibly Roki Sasaki, closer for the Los Angeles Dodgers,
- 9:59Speaker 1: has looked unstoppable. That the fastball splitter combo has really
- 10:05Speaker 1: played up and he has not been scared of the moment.
- 10:08Speaker 1: So lots of really fun young arms, And do you
- 10:12Speaker 1: think that there's something going on there is? Is there
- 10:15Speaker 1: some sort of trend do you think in the league
- 10:17Speaker 1: where like it does feel like one of the narratives
- 10:19Speaker 1: that always gets created during the amibi playoffs is this
- 10:23Speaker 1: is how you win a baseball game? You know, between
- 10:25Speaker 1: like and maybe we didn't get as much last year
- 10:28Speaker 1: because it was pretty obvious how the Dodgers won the
- 10:30Speaker 1: World Series, but you know, you see the success of
- 10:33Speaker 1: the Milwaukee Brewers, what the Orioles have done over the
- 10:36Speaker 1: past couple of years. When you get into the playoffs,
- 10:37Speaker 1: that becomes the driving narrative. Do you think some of
- 10:40Speaker 1: these young young arms and just like flamethrowers are going
- 10:44Speaker 1: to become some of the narrative going forward in baseball?
- 10:47Speaker 2: I think to a degree it is like you know
- 10:50Speaker 2: it for a few years, Like I think the pitching
- 10:54Speaker 2: has he started to evolve faster and the hitting to
- 10:57Speaker 2: a degree, and you're getting a lot out of these
- 11:00Speaker 2: arms are coming up stronger than they have. Like even
- 11:03Speaker 2: glazed Over Connley early had you know, a great, great
- 11:07Speaker 2: outing behind Camper Schlitler. He just got let down by
- 11:11Speaker 2: his defense a little bit. But the guy he was
- 11:13Speaker 2: nasty as well. So like you had a lot of
- 11:16Speaker 2: guys doing some some cool things out there, and it
- 11:19Speaker 2: does feel like it's the kind of the young flamethrowers,
- 11:22Speaker 2: Like there's a weird change into the guard right now.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Like I know there are a few all call it
- 11:26Speaker 2: aces out there, but if you look globally across the game,
- 11:29Speaker 2: I feel like the aces, like the true aces that
- 11:32Speaker 2: we call out there. When I'm saying aces, like top
- 11:34Speaker 2: five or six arms in the game, they're like at
- 11:37Speaker 2: the end of their careers. The Kershaws, the de Grams,
- 11:40Speaker 2: the Shusers. I'm sure I'm missing somebody that like they're
- 11:43Speaker 2: all you know kind of you know, leveling off, and
- 11:46Speaker 2: then you have this change in the guard where there's
- 11:47Speaker 2: not I feel like there's nobody for like a ten
- 11:49Speaker 2: year period and then now you hit your schemes, you
- 11:53Speaker 2: hit your schools, and then you have some of these
- 11:54Speaker 2: other young guys coming up, and it's kind of like
- 11:56Speaker 2: this bookend that we're seeing that change into the guard.
- 11:59Speaker 2: And even though de Gram and Sure's are and Kershaw
- 12:02Speaker 2: power pitchers, it feels like this crop it just like
- 12:05Speaker 2: a little bit more like an extra extra ten percent
- 12:09Speaker 2: of power. The one thing I would love to see, like,
- 12:12Speaker 2: are any of them gonna be able to go deep
- 12:14Speaker 2: into games? Like That's what's been really interesting is uh, yeah,
- 12:17Speaker 2: I'm I'm I know Schlitzer did, but the Savage, Masarowski,
- 12:22Speaker 2: like Sasaki, like nobody's getting tons of innings here. They're
- 12:26Speaker 2: just dominant when they're in the game. And so I'm
- 12:29Speaker 2: really interested to see how these guys develop. But I
- 12:32Speaker 2: also love the fact that the teams are like, you're
- 12:35Speaker 2: you're good, You're valuable. I don't care that you've only
- 12:38Speaker 2: been on like your Savage for example, like you have
- 12:42Speaker 2: no real experience at the mL level, and they're like, yeah,
- 12:45Speaker 2: here you go, just go for it like that. I
- 12:47Speaker 2: just love that the teams are willing to commit to
- 12:50Speaker 2: the guy that's like on fire and showing what he has.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Don't play traditional baseball play to win.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean I think, yeah, I think we
- 13:00Speaker 1: are maybe saying a little bit of a trend where
- 13:02Speaker 1: I you know, set you up with that leading question
- 13:04Speaker 1: a little bit in terms of us. You also look
- 13:06Speaker 1: at these guys, I mean, Yay Savage and miss Rowski
- 13:09Speaker 1: obviously were pretty high picks, but you can tell that
- 13:12Speaker 1: like someone that like just pitching lab stuff that has
- 13:16Speaker 1: been applied in more advanced organizations, And especially you're looking
- 13:20Speaker 1: at like Milwaukee, Toronto, New York. The AL version I
- 13:25Speaker 1: mean New York NL version is now too with David
- 13:28Speaker 1: Stearns around. But all these teams are some of the
- 13:31Speaker 1: more cutting edge teams. And I don't think it's a
- 13:33Speaker 1: coincidence that they're pumping out these new young arms that
- 13:37Speaker 1: just have absolutely off the scales on Bonker stuff on
- 13:42Speaker 1: stuff plus because you know they're being created in a
- 13:45Speaker 1: pitching lab and it's just like impossible to hit. I
- 13:48Speaker 1: guess the big question will be going forward is you know,
- 13:51Speaker 1: can they keep the health together? Can you continually be
- 13:56Speaker 1: throwing some of these really advanced pitches where like especially
- 13:59Speaker 1: I think about like the Savage with his splitter, like
- 14:01Speaker 1: splitters don't tend to age arms very well. You know,
- 14:07Speaker 1: it kind of tears up your forearm tears up your elbow.
- 14:09Speaker 1: But we've talked about this a little bit over over time.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Is that like you see it in Paul Schemes too,
- 14:16Speaker 1: Is like, not only are these younger players, younger pitchers
- 14:19Speaker 1: more open to some of these advanced like pitch development techniques,
- 14:24Speaker 1: but I think they're also pretty open to lots of
- 14:27Speaker 1: different ways of training and keeping their body healthy. And
- 14:32Speaker 1: so I have a lot of faith in like what
- 14:35Speaker 1: Schemes has been doing. And he just doesn't seem like
- 14:39Speaker 1: he seems invincible. I know he's probably not, but you
- 14:42Speaker 1: do wonder if maybe there is some advancements on the
- 14:44Speaker 1: training stretching, kind of strength training overall that goes into
- 14:49Speaker 1: these players that maybe we can keep some of them healthy.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I hope. So it does feel like the kind
- 14:55Speaker 2: of divide across the league is also growing to a
- 14:58Speaker 2: degree between the haves and haves nots, in that in
- 15:01Speaker 2: that kind of dynamic, you can tell the teams that
- 15:04Speaker 2: just can't seem to get these guys healthy and get
- 15:06Speaker 2: them through and other teams doing doing better. And frankly,
- 15:10Speaker 2: I think like the Blue Jays have seen maybe he's
- 15:12Speaker 2: turn to corner here, Like with the Es savage, like
- 15:14Speaker 2: it seems like they're figuring things out when for years
- 15:16Speaker 2: it felt like they just could not figure out what
- 15:18Speaker 2: they're doing with pitchers. Maybe it's just one guy, I
- 15:20Speaker 2: don't know, but it does feel like there's something has
- 15:23Speaker 2: changed with a few teams, but there's still a number
- 15:25Speaker 2: of teams out there that don't feel like they really
- 15:29Speaker 2: know how developing pitching. Like I'll call it like it
- 15:32Speaker 2: is like the pod race for example. I know the
- 15:33Speaker 2: man in the playoffs, they they've really struggled to develop pitching,
- 15:37Speaker 2: and then they send these guys away, Like Robbie Snelling's
- 15:39Speaker 2: a great example. He had like a good year for
- 15:42Speaker 2: them and then just fell apart some of the Marlins
- 15:44Speaker 2: and all the guys just like just blasting through the minors.
- 15:47Speaker 2: He would be in the same conversation if the Marlins
- 15:49Speaker 2: were anything besides terrible, and I'm excited for see what
- 15:54Speaker 2: he can do next year. So there's there's definitely has
- 15:58Speaker 2: a growing vibe those haves and have nots in the
- 15:59Speaker 2: pitch side.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's totally fair, and it is
- 16:03Speaker 1: also verrely supporting our our love of giant six foot
- 16:06Speaker 1: six dudes who just like whip the ball really hard
- 16:09Speaker 1: because those are the guys that have success have had
- 16:11Speaker 1: success between you know, Schlitler's sixty six two twenty five,
- 16:15Speaker 1: Yay Savage six four two twenty five, Miserowski six seven
- 16:19Speaker 1: one ninety seven. Uh, early on, I'm gonna make that
- 16:23Speaker 1: an outlier that's not part of this. Yeah. I think
- 16:27Speaker 1: that there is something there too, where like it's not
- 16:30Speaker 1: a coincidence that we keep discussing that type of player
- 16:33Speaker 1: because I think there is something where once you've got
- 16:37Speaker 1: such a huge body that in wingspan that you're working
- 16:40Speaker 1: with and you're looking at that extension that you can
- 16:43Speaker 1: get out of a six to six frame, it seems
- 16:45Speaker 1: like everything else from there is gravy. So Uh, something
- 16:48Speaker 1: to keep in mind I think is we're entering the
- 16:51Speaker 1: off season for our fantasy game that like there are archetypes.
- 16:54Speaker 1: I think you could start picking out from the pitching
- 16:56Speaker 1: side that will make it a little easier to map
- 16:59Speaker 1: things across. I think for fantasy baseball then maybe it
- 17:02Speaker 1: traditionally has been and then on top of it, we
- 17:05Speaker 1: just have so much data that makes it so much
- 17:07Speaker 1: easier too. Like prospects Savant is a huge help to us,
- 17:10Speaker 1: and that's there's only going to be more and more
- 17:13Speaker 1: data out there. As you know, lots of that information
- 17:16Speaker 1: gets into people's hands. So just make sure as a
- 17:19Speaker 1: fantasy player you are using those tools available to you
- 17:21Speaker 1: because they are very useful.
- 17:24Speaker 2: They are, and I could probably name almost like ten
- 17:27Speaker 2: starters going to next year that pitch like partial seasons
- 17:30Speaker 2: this year that you could argue as a top twenty pitcher.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Like it's hard to stay there because of track record,
- 17:37Speaker 2: but you go across like the Nolan mclan's, the Jonah Tongs,
- 17:40Speaker 2: Peyton Tole like plus all the guys we just talked about,
- 17:43Speaker 2: Like there's a lot of guys out there that you
- 17:45Speaker 2: look at it and be like, wow, they pitched partial seasons,
- 17:49Speaker 2: but like it's not hard to imagine them being a
- 17:52Speaker 2: top twenty pitcher. And so it's going to be really
- 17:54Speaker 2: interesting the draft table next year where a lot of
- 17:57Speaker 2: these guys go, because you could see a lot of
- 18:00Speaker 2: them jumping out the draft boards or guys getting scared
- 18:04Speaker 2: to take the risk, which are all fair, All fair.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's very fair. I do want to
- 18:10Speaker 1: revisit Sasaki a little bit because like this has been
- 18:14Speaker 1: really impressive seeing what he's been able to do. You know,
- 18:17Speaker 1: he's thrown so far as we're speaking, two and a
- 18:19Speaker 1: third's innings, two saves with no walks so far, three strikeouts,
- 18:25Speaker 1: and it's looked untouchable and so obviously putting him into
- 18:30Speaker 1: the shorter stents I think is really helped. But then
- 18:32Speaker 1: you also kind of pull the lever of Sasaki's doing
- 18:36Speaker 1: this in the highest leverage situations. He's shut down the
- 18:38Speaker 1: Phillies in Philadelphia the other night, showed just ice in
- 18:43Speaker 1: his veins, getting that lasted out in terms of it
- 18:46Speaker 1: looked like that tide was turning and the Dodgers were
- 18:48Speaker 1: going to let that game slip away, especially given the
- 18:51Speaker 1: bullpen issues they've had, and Roki Sasaki looks to be
- 18:54Speaker 1: the salve there. So is Sasaki showing you enough to
- 18:58Speaker 1: like push him back into some of the territories where
- 19:01Speaker 1: we were considering him, I mean, maybe not like towards
- 19:05Speaker 1: the end of draft season when he was going as
- 19:07Speaker 1: maybe like a top ten guy, But is he giving
- 19:09Speaker 1: you more faith in what he can do? And are
- 19:13Speaker 1: you thinking, hey, this guy is showing what we needed
- 19:16Speaker 1: to late in the season to be able to believe
- 19:18Speaker 1: in him for twenty twenty six.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll call it renewed hope, I think. But it's
- 19:24Speaker 2: also like it's a pattern that we've seen with guys
- 19:27Speaker 2: coming over from Japan on the pitching side of things,
- 19:29Speaker 2: that they seemed to take a few months to figure
- 19:33Speaker 2: things out, and he had some injury issues, which is
- 19:36Speaker 2: which also drove But like, look at Yavamoto right now.
- 19:39Speaker 2: The guy is just unbelievable. And at the beginning of
- 19:43Speaker 2: i'd say last year when he was there, like there
- 19:45Speaker 2: was a lot of questions can he do this? Was
- 19:47Speaker 2: it look like things are not working so well? Like
- 19:50Speaker 2: it's it's not. It's been relatively i'd say like fifty
- 19:54Speaker 2: to fifty for guys coming over that there's like this
- 19:56Speaker 2: adjustment period, whether it's the ball, the game, the speed
- 19:58Speaker 2: of the game, what it is like these are still
- 20:00Speaker 2: professional athletes and they do make adjustments, but it seems
- 20:04Speaker 2: that they take time. So I put that in the
- 20:05Speaker 2: back of my head plus what we're seeing right now,
- 20:07Speaker 2: and I've definitely got hope. Am I jumping him way
- 20:10Speaker 2: up the draft board? Not yet, because I do think
- 20:12Speaker 2: I have some questions of what his role looks like
- 20:14Speaker 2: next year. I do not believe they can commit to
- 20:16Speaker 2: him as a closer. I don't think that makes sense.
- 20:19Speaker 2: But I do also think that they're gonna be cautious
- 20:22Speaker 2: with him, and the Dodgers have zero problem being cautious
- 20:24Speaker 2: with pictures. Like I think that's kind of something they
- 20:26Speaker 2: have shown as they're like they believe they have the
- 20:29Speaker 2: depth and they believe they have the talent that if
- 20:31Speaker 2: they want to play, you know, take a guy through
- 20:34Speaker 2: five innings every start or skip starts or something like that.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Like I think that's what's gonna probably happen with Sasaki
- 20:39Speaker 2: next year as they just try to build him up,
- 20:42Speaker 2: and so I think this talent will be there, But
- 20:44Speaker 2: I do think that there's there's gonna be a cap
- 20:46Speaker 2: on the ultimate value.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and I mean I think from the baseball card side,
- 20:51Speaker 1: I mean I hinted at this because he is Sasaki
- 20:53Speaker 1: was plastered all over tops chrome. He was really anchoring
- 20:57Speaker 1: a lot of these different releases. And kudos to you
- 21:01Speaker 1: if you got some late season investments in Sasaki, because
- 21:04Speaker 1: I'm looking on sportscard investor dot com right now, all
- 21:07Speaker 1: of this prices are already jumping because I think people
- 21:10Speaker 1: already see where this could end at the end of
- 21:13Speaker 1: October in terms of you might be looking at Roki
- 21:16Speaker 1: Susaki closing out a world series for the Los Angeles
- 21:20Speaker 1: Dodgers and just picking up that save as well as,
- 21:23Speaker 1: like you know, putting together some number of saves over
- 21:26Speaker 1: the next coming weeks. So unfortunately, the ramp up in
- 21:30Speaker 1: the market's already happened, so you've probably missed it. But
- 21:33Speaker 1: if you had been sitting on Susaki's it might not
- 21:36Speaker 1: be a bad time to move them right now, because
- 21:40Speaker 1: I don't know like how much the market is gonna
- 21:43Speaker 1: kind of go beyond this, because it was already pretty
- 21:47Speaker 1: hot for Susaki dipped with the injuries heating back up,
- 21:51Speaker 1: and so maybe we should have brought them up in
- 21:54Speaker 1: our investment for the playoff run discussion, but at that
- 21:57Speaker 1: point there was no indication that societ was going to
- 22:00Speaker 1: be even like on these rosters and in this role.
- 22:03Speaker 1: So certainly something to keep in mind if you've been
- 22:05Speaker 1: ripping a lot of twenty twenty five product and have
- 22:08Speaker 1: maybe some Saki's laying around, that market is picking up
- 22:12Speaker 1: very very quickly, so look for those cards to be
- 22:16Speaker 1: hot commodies over the next couple of weeks.
- 22:18Speaker 2: I'm glad you called that out because you know me,
- 22:20Speaker 2: I always got some random one center around. I got
- 22:23Speaker 2: it Rokie Susaki, Well, I think twenty nineteen Kira PSA ten.
- 22:28Speaker 2: It's just sitting around because because I think it was
- 22:31Speaker 2: basically going for like twenty bucks a while back. It
- 22:33Speaker 2: was like going for greening costs during the injury time frame.
- 22:37Speaker 2: So I think it's time to dig some of that
- 22:39Speaker 2: fun stuff out.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean he's only twenty three, Like his
- 22:43Speaker 1: entire career is in front of him too, So like
- 22:45Speaker 1: if there ever is another role, I will be back
- 22:47Speaker 1: in and trying to put some away because, like I
- 22:51Speaker 1: do think that this is a guy who, you know,
- 22:53Speaker 1: if things keep trending in this direction, and like you
- 22:57Speaker 1: said with Yamamoto, you can kind of see where things
- 23:00Speaker 1: could start going forward for Susaki.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Always by the talent, Always by the talent.
- 23:04Speaker 1: That's a good point, yes, and especially high end Japanese talent.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Yeah, that also plays.
- 23:11Speaker 1: With all that. How are you feeling about your predictions?
- 23:13Speaker 1: You called Milwaukee Seattle World Series last week? Still feeling
- 23:18Speaker 1: all right?
- 23:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I'm still feeling right. I'm a little
- 23:21Speaker 2: I'm a little on edge with the al side of
- 23:25Speaker 2: that only because of one guy, which is Treeked Schooble,
- 23:28Speaker 2: Like I think he could throw my whole plane. I
- 23:30Speaker 2: do still think the Mariners are one of the better
- 23:32Speaker 2: complete teams, and but again I think they played better
- 23:36Speaker 2: in a longer series and so this like that, that's
- 23:39Speaker 2: what what what worries me. But yeah, again they're gonna
- 23:41Speaker 2: have one of their races going as well, so I'm
- 23:44Speaker 2: still feeling pretty good about that. I don't again, I'm
- 23:48Speaker 2: not seeing the the the Yankees have enough to really
- 23:51Speaker 2: take that deep dive. The Blue Jays have actually really
- 23:54Speaker 2: surprised me, but I'm just I don't think I can
- 23:58Speaker 2: buy it like they do. See a little bit more
- 23:59Speaker 2: up and down team on the al side of things.
- 24:02Speaker 2: I still do like the Brewers. I still think they
- 24:04Speaker 2: are the better team. But the Dodgers look really good.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Like I I they look better than I thought they
- 24:11Speaker 2: would going in, and so maybe they were just saying
- 24:14Speaker 2: bagging the whole time, but they they look good. But
- 24:18Speaker 2: I'm gonna stick to my guns. I got them both
- 24:20Speaker 2: still in Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna stick to my guns.
- 24:22Speaker 2: How about you, Are you want to make any any adjustments?
- 24:26Speaker 1: No, I mean, I think I'm feeling pretty good because
- 24:28Speaker 1: I do think that, like it is, all, they have
- 24:30Speaker 1: to take a long flight from Detroit to Seattle tonight.
- 24:35Speaker 1: I believe they do have an off day tomorrow, so
- 24:37Speaker 1: like that is gonna help that series overall. Let me
- 24:40Speaker 1: check that. I'm pretty sure they have an off day tomorrow.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Never Yeah, yeah, yeah, they do, so they will. That's
- 24:47Speaker 1: a long travel, and I mean, I think that is
- 24:49Speaker 1: gonna really grind on the Tigers. They also got to
- 24:54Speaker 1: the soft underside of that Mariner's bullpen today and so
- 24:57Speaker 1: it will be all hands on deck, and I think
- 25:00Speaker 1: that will help the Mariners over all. But like you said,
- 25:03Speaker 1: I mean, you can't count the Tigers out when they're
- 25:05Speaker 1: putting the reigning side on the mound. Who's honestly going
- 25:10Speaker 1: to win his second and he's just lights out. And
- 25:12Speaker 1: I feel great about the Dodgers, Like the one weakness
- 25:15Speaker 1: was that bullpen, and Rokie Sasaki immediately shored that up.
- 25:18Speaker 1: So I'm feeling pretty good about where things are headed there.
- 25:22Speaker 1: So although the Blue Jayson looks really really great, I
- 25:26Speaker 1: kind of maybe should have given more credence to putting
- 25:29Speaker 1: them into the World Series.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I just can't see it happening consistently.
- 25:34Speaker 2: That's the thing for me. But like they've looked a lot,
- 25:37Speaker 2: a lot better than I thought they would, So yeah,
- 25:39Speaker 2: we'll see. We could look like a bunch of fools
- 25:41Speaker 2: here in a week.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Okay. Well, yeah, as you can say, we're really excited
- 25:47Speaker 1: about the playoffs. We've just got a couple of bits
- 25:49Speaker 1: of news before we get into our main segment after
- 25:53Speaker 1: a break, which will be the September Player of the
- 25:55Speaker 1: Month PC. So it is a monthly tradition around here,
- 25:59Speaker 1: one of our favorites. But like I said, let's get
- 26:02Speaker 1: into those news and notes. First bit of news we
- 26:05Speaker 1: have is Skip Shoemaker is now the manager for the
- 26:10Speaker 1: Texas Rangers after Bruce Bochie has moved into an advisor role,
- 26:15Speaker 1: so kind of ushered out retirement and negotiated retirement I
- 26:19Speaker 1: think in some sort as I mean, we kind of
- 26:22Speaker 1: saw this come in in terms of when Shoemaker moved
- 26:25Speaker 1: into that front office with the Rangers. And I've heard
- 26:28Speaker 1: that I think he also has a offspring that goes
- 26:32Speaker 1: to TCU down in Texas, so like he wanted to
- 26:35Speaker 1: move down there to be closer to his kid. And
- 26:38Speaker 1: now he's going to be running the Rangers was going
- 26:41Speaker 1: to be a hot commodity because of all the openings
- 26:44Speaker 1: that have happened. We didn't discuss that too much last
- 26:46Speaker 1: week because it's not quite as fantasy and baseball card
- 26:49Speaker 1: relevant to us. But we are going to have lots
- 26:51Speaker 1: of shake up in the managerial positions around the league
- 26:54Speaker 1: as we get into twenty twenty six. But Shoemaker is
- 26:58Speaker 1: probably the one where, like I can maybe convince myself
- 27:02Speaker 1: that it would make some sort of difference, and especially
- 27:04Speaker 1: seeing how the Miami Marlins played for him and what
- 27:07Speaker 1: he was able to juice out of some of those
- 27:10Speaker 1: really rough shot teams and being able to get them playing,
- 27:14Speaker 1: and I mean I think we can we saw some
- 27:16Speaker 1: of that cascading down into what the Marlins did this year.
- 27:20Speaker 1: But I mean CLAYT. McCall is also a great manager.
- 27:22Speaker 1: So with all that said, any sort of boost you
- 27:26Speaker 1: might be giving to the Rangers going into twenty twenty
- 27:28Speaker 1: six because of this with Skips, you maker or any
- 27:30Speaker 1: other thoughts around this managerial hiring, Yeah, I mean I
- 27:33Speaker 1: really like it.
- 27:34Speaker 2: I'm very high on Skip. I think he's a very
- 27:37Speaker 2: good players manager, and I think it's a drastic change
- 27:41Speaker 2: that they have on their hands from Bocie. But I
- 27:45Speaker 2: kind of look at it is that the Rangers should
- 27:47Speaker 2: be able to get back to what we expected rather
- 27:50Speaker 2: than like a big jump up from that. Like I
- 27:52Speaker 2: think they've very much underperformed this year, and I think
- 27:55Speaker 2: that they maybe get back to let's say average. I
- 27:58Speaker 2: think they get back to being kind of what we
- 28:00Speaker 2: can expect they do injury issues and things like that.
- 28:03Speaker 2: But I mean, don't get me wrong, they had a
- 28:05Speaker 2: number of guys that really really underperformed, and I'm excited
- 28:09Speaker 2: to see Marcus Simeon turn things around. Why Langford continue
- 28:12Speaker 2: to grow just young, like some finally capitalized in that potential,
- 28:18Speaker 2: Like there's a lot of Corey seekers just just stay
- 28:21Speaker 2: on the field. I think there's a lot of a
- 28:23Speaker 2: lot of fun things that can happen with that team,
- 28:27Speaker 2: and I'm excited. I think they're going to be in
- 28:29Speaker 2: the discussion next year, and I think, like I said,
- 28:32Speaker 2: all kind of all tides rise there just a little bit.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, I think that is all very fair because
- 28:37Speaker 1: I do think it's a great core, good chance they
- 28:40Speaker 1: add Sebastian Walcott to that corps as well, getting into
- 28:43Speaker 1: next year, so it could be a pretty dangerous team
- 28:45Speaker 1: because they've also got the rotation pretty much. I mean,
- 28:50Speaker 1: I guess it's to gram and lighter and some of
- 28:53Speaker 1: the other pieces they have around there. But they'll build
- 28:54Speaker 1: it out. They'll figure it out.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Next bit of news is on the card side, because
- 28:59Speaker 1: this was kind of an interesting development out of nowhere.
- 29:03Speaker 1: It just was released on socials today from Tops and
- 29:07Speaker 1: it really caught my eye. They're starting a new program
- 29:10Speaker 1: where if you are the owner of three super fractors
- 29:15Speaker 1: that stand out for a player, and you have to
- 29:17Speaker 1: be able to prove it to Tops in some form
- 29:20Speaker 1: or fashion and the three cards that you're looking at.
- 29:24Speaker 1: They use the example here of Junior Camenaro and all
- 29:27Speaker 1: the socials that they've been putting out there. If you
- 29:29Speaker 1: have the super Fractor Auto of the Bowman first Chrome,
- 29:34Speaker 1: the MLB Debut patch card, which is you know, really
- 29:39Speaker 1: took off with the Paul Skime situation, and then the
- 29:41Speaker 1: TOPS Chrome Auto all the super Fractor one of ones,
- 29:46Speaker 1: you get the right to be able to get a
- 29:48Speaker 1: special card from TOPS that is called the Three Kings card,
- 29:52Speaker 1: which is I mean, they've been dogging this on Reddit
- 29:55Speaker 1: all day. It is a pretty ugly looking card, but
- 29:58Speaker 1: it's fun in terms of it combines the pictures from
- 30:01Speaker 1: all three of those cards that were the super Fractors.
- 30:04Speaker 1: It's its own super Fractor and then is signed by
- 30:07Speaker 1: the player. It's a separate one of one, but you
- 30:10Speaker 1: have to have all three pieces to put together. It's
- 30:12Speaker 1: like the Infinity Gauntlet of super Fractors for baseball players.
- 30:16Speaker 1: What do you think about this new program from tops?
- 30:19Speaker 2: It's it's it's an interesting one. I guess this is
- 30:22Speaker 2: the way I'm going to look at it, like, and
- 30:25Speaker 2: I think the folks on Reddit and I've looked it
- 30:27Speaker 2: on Twitter a little bit have are probably right like
- 30:32Speaker 2: the rich get richer type of scenario here, Like to
- 30:34Speaker 2: be able to own those three cards. First of all,
- 30:36Speaker 2: not all players have those three cards, which I think
- 30:39Speaker 2: is a big thing. But to be able to own
- 30:41Speaker 2: all three and find all three is a pretty big thing.
- 30:45Speaker 2: And for a big name like you're paying big dollars
- 30:47Speaker 2: for that, and so like again, I'm sure there's gonna
- 30:50Speaker 2: be some run on like a weird middle reliever trying
- 30:53Speaker 2: to trying to make that happen, but just to get
- 30:56Speaker 2: you know, you could see somebody spending some big money
- 30:58Speaker 2: in these cards just to get this and then sell
- 31:00Speaker 2: the other ones off. Like it's kind of a weird,
- 31:02Speaker 2: gimmicky thing. I love the creativity, but I just feel
- 31:07Speaker 2: like they could have maybe dedicated their resources elsewhere. It
- 31:10Speaker 2: gets kind of my my view on it. So that said,
- 31:13Speaker 2: I also haven't read the fine print, and I think
- 31:16Speaker 2: we've all read learned with Tops, you got to read
- 31:19Speaker 2: the fine print because there's you know, basically says you know,
- 31:23Speaker 2: you get all three. It can be played one time,
- 31:26Speaker 2: like there seems to be no caveats, and I just
- 31:29Speaker 2: I just think it would it would probably happen, like
- 31:35Speaker 2: there's gonna be some caveat. And I also say, like
- 31:38Speaker 2: if you actually go out to tops dot com, they
- 31:40Speaker 2: actually have like f a Q and all kinds of
- 31:43Speaker 2: things like that. But also it is listed that Jackson
- 31:45Speaker 2: Curio and Junior Common Arrow have already been claimed, and
- 31:49Speaker 2: so that's that to me is really really interesting. And
- 31:55Speaker 2: there's like a picture of a guy stayanding next to
- 31:57Speaker 2: Junior Common Junior Junior Common Narrow actual you know, I
- 32:00Speaker 2: think it's sectional man Tario showing the card and things
- 32:03Speaker 2: like that. It's like I don't know how they how
- 32:06Speaker 2: they got into this, but clearly there was a little
- 32:08Speaker 2: collusion or something going on that, you know, somebody thought
- 32:11Speaker 2: through this. There's probably some guy that works at TOPS,
- 32:14Speaker 2: so hey, I got all these you should do something.
- 32:17Speaker 2: But it's it's gonna be interesting, It's all I'm gonna say.
- 32:20Speaker 2: But it it I think it does. It does hit
- 32:23Speaker 2: the hobby a little bit wrong from the high end
- 32:26Speaker 2: of things that we've talked about how the hobbies become
- 32:28Speaker 2: a little bit harder to play in and it's become
- 32:30Speaker 2: a little scarce to uh if you want to play
- 32:33Speaker 2: on the high end because of the cost. And all
- 32:35Speaker 2: this does is just double down that.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think so too. And I think the
- 32:40Speaker 1: odd thing about this is there's just so many players
- 32:43Speaker 1: that collect their own cards nowadays that like this three
- 32:47Speaker 1: Kings card, the percentage of m will be players that
- 32:50Speaker 1: will own them is probably a higher than any other
- 32:53Speaker 1: card out there, because especially when you're talking about those
- 32:55Speaker 1: middle relievers where they're only getting like a cup of
- 32:58Speaker 1: coffee and they don't necessarily have a lot of cards
- 33:01Speaker 1: they'll be coming out. I find that those of the
- 33:03Speaker 1: type of guys who really collect their cards, and especially
- 33:05Speaker 1: when you're talking the Rookie Patch autto as well as
- 33:08Speaker 1: the Bowman First and the Tops Chrome Superfractors. A lot
- 33:12Speaker 1: of those guys collect their own stuff, which is also
- 33:15Speaker 1: kind of odd because then it's like you sign it,
- 33:18Speaker 1: send it out, and it comes back to you, and
- 33:20Speaker 1: then it's gonna be the same sort of thing with
- 33:22Speaker 1: this Three Kings card, where I would I would imagine
- 33:25Speaker 1: the percentage of them that are owned by baseball players,
- 33:28Speaker 1: are claimed by baseball players is higher than other cards.
- 33:31Speaker 1: So it's gonna be such an unattainable card for all
- 33:35Speaker 1: those reasons, and it'll be Yeah, I think it will
- 33:38Speaker 1: be interesting to see maybe how many actually kind of
- 33:41Speaker 1: get out into like the public, how many of these
- 33:44Speaker 1: Three Kings cards actually get onto eBay and things like that.
- 33:47Speaker 1: But that's something that we will see in the future. Okay.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Other than that, we have a few baseball card calendar
- 33:55Speaker 1: release updates in terms of they added Bowman Chrome Sapphire
- 33:59Speaker 1: coming out out next week on ten to fifteen, So
- 34:02Speaker 1: that'll be hitting shelves, especially hobby shops. You will not
- 34:05Speaker 1: find that in any Walmarts targets. Is a very high
- 34:08Speaker 1: end release in terms of following Bowman Chrome. Now it's
- 34:12Speaker 1: a Sapphire edition and going to have lots of great
- 34:15Speaker 1: cards in there. We also had the addition of Panini
- 34:17Speaker 1: National Treasures in mid November, but really the end of October.
- 34:22Speaker 1: We've got two of our favorite sets between Top Holiday
- 34:25Speaker 1: and Update coming out, so we will focus on those
- 34:28Speaker 1: when they come out in the near future. But before
- 34:31Speaker 1: we do that, we're going to take a short break
- 34:33Speaker 1: and we're going to be back with the September Player
- 34:36Speaker 1: of the Month PC picks. So stick around, all right,
- 34:57Speaker 1: Welcome back, everybody. We are going to get into our
- 34:59Speaker 1: main segment discussing the September Players of the Month from
- 35:03Speaker 1: the AL and NL and then making PC cards PC
- 35:07Speaker 1: picks for our pod PC. And if you're not familiar
- 35:11Speaker 1: with this exercise, it is a monthly exercise that we
- 35:13Speaker 1: go through. It's one of our favorite segments that we
- 35:16Speaker 1: do is we go through and review who was handed
- 35:19Speaker 1: the Player of the Month awards by MLB, and then
- 35:22Speaker 1: what we go and do is find some of our
- 35:24Speaker 1: favorite cards with those players and then quote unquote put
- 35:27Speaker 1: them in our pod PC. We have a big list.
- 35:30Speaker 1: Go into those show notes, you'll be able to see
- 35:32Speaker 1: the big list of all the cards that we put
- 35:34Speaker 1: in there so far. This is also a great pod
- 35:37Speaker 1: to link up and go to rasball dot com find
- 35:40Speaker 1: the post that goes and is related to this pod.
- 35:44Speaker 1: It'll also be in the show notes. We'll have pictures
- 35:46Speaker 1: of all these cards that we're about to describe so
- 35:49Speaker 1: you can see them. But what we do is we
- 35:51Speaker 1: pick these favorite cards of these players to cement into
- 35:54Speaker 1: our PC. So you know, we're gonna have some bas cards,
- 35:57Speaker 1: We're gonna have some inserts, we're gonna have some one
- 35:59Speaker 1: of one, so it runs the gamut. Also a little
- 36:02Speaker 1: fun to follow along. You know, if you're a cards
- 36:04Speaker 1: and category super fan out there, maybe you are building
- 36:07Speaker 1: this PC on the side, I'm just waiting for the
- 36:09Speaker 1: day that, like we run into somebody that's been doing
- 36:11Speaker 1: a little bit that they'll be fantastic. But we've got
- 36:15Speaker 1: five names this month because one of our players doubled
- 36:18Speaker 1: up in the NL, so we will get into that.
- 36:21Speaker 1: But before we move over to the NL, let's start
- 36:23Speaker 1: on the AL side because it happens alphabetically and as
- 36:28Speaker 1: two ball no Or's like me, No AL starts on
- 36:30Speaker 1: the left side, so you go left or right.
- 36:34Speaker 2: We're not going to that discussion again.
- 36:37Speaker 1: So yes, we just picked a card for the players
- 36:40Speaker 1: that won these awards, and surprise, surprise, Aaron Judge won
- 36:44Speaker 1: in the al. Once again, we're about to put in
- 36:46Speaker 1: our twelfth and thirteenth cards of our PC. That is
- 36:50Speaker 1: only roughly one hundred and ninety five cards for Aaron Judge.
- 36:56Speaker 1: So it's about, you know, we're pushing non negligible amounts
- 37:03Speaker 1: of Aaron Judge cards in our PC. Good thing he's
- 37:05Speaker 1: got like a million cards on the market. So he's
- 37:08Speaker 1: coming off a month that maybe is capping his third MVP.
- 37:12Speaker 1: I don't know. It's gonna be a fascinating coin flip
- 37:13Speaker 1: between him and Cal. But his September was out of
- 37:17Speaker 1: this world. Ten homers, twenty seven runs, seventeen RBI, three
- 37:23Speaker 1: stolen bases, three seventy five twenty seven seven sixty five
- 37:28Speaker 1: slash line to round out his season and finish it
- 37:31Speaker 1: in style after that elbow injury kind of derailed him
- 37:34Speaker 1: a little bit. Got him up to fifty three homers.
- 37:37Speaker 1: That was a two forty one WRC plus in September,
- 37:40Speaker 1: just outstanding a two to four WHC plus on the
- 37:44Speaker 1: season for Aaron Judge. That is Banana's stuff. Like I said,
- 37:48Speaker 1: we put a lot of cards into our PC for
- 37:50Speaker 1: Aaron Judge just because we've been recording this pod over
- 37:53Speaker 1: the prime of his career. So what card did you
- 37:56Speaker 1: pick to put in for this month?
- 37:58Speaker 2: Well, I definitely feel like it's like my my real
- 38:01Speaker 2: PC where I buy a card and then I sometimes
- 38:03Speaker 2: get home like wait, I already have this card. I
- 38:05Speaker 2: feel like that's where we're at with Aaron Judge. So
- 38:07Speaker 2: I didn't actually look back at the PC, so I
- 38:09Speaker 2: don't think this one's in there. But but if if
- 38:13Speaker 2: you want to call me out, like you can, you
- 38:15Speaker 2: can double me up. But like if I double's ever
- 38:18Speaker 2: heard anything?
- 38:18Speaker 1: Right, So it's not in there that you were about
- 38:21Speaker 1: to say, So I can.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Okay, I feel better because I usually check, but I
- 38:26Speaker 2: just rolled with things and like, I love this card.
- 38:28Speaker 2: So I'm going with one of my favorite favorite sets,
- 38:31Speaker 2: which is Tops Triple Threads.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Uh.
- 38:33Speaker 2: This is the twenty twenty four version, and what say
- 38:36Speaker 2: Tops Triple Threads. It's very specifically the relic versions or
- 38:41Speaker 2: the patch game you use everyone to call it, where
- 38:43Speaker 2: Triple Threads loves to spell things out on cards with
- 38:46Speaker 2: the relics and the patches in it and I absolutely
- 38:49Speaker 2: love that. And this one simply says Judge. It's just Judge,
- 38:54Speaker 2: and it's got three different patches in it. It's got
- 38:57Speaker 2: a white pinstripe patch in it, it's got bat patch
- 39:02Speaker 2: relic in there, and it's got a what it looks
- 39:05Speaker 2: like a way great jersey for the Yankees as well,
- 39:08Speaker 2: all game used. And it's just it's a great card.
- 39:11Speaker 2: I love the the kind of creativity that Triple Threads
- 39:16Speaker 2: brings them into this. And what I also think is
- 39:19Speaker 2: fun is that the value really actually oscillates with the
- 39:24Speaker 2: saying on the card. I've noticed this with players, and
- 39:29Speaker 2: sometimes they are really cool sayings that you just and
- 39:32Speaker 2: that you can't find them the prices through the roof.
- 39:34Speaker 2: And I think this one, like for Aaron Judge. I
- 39:36Speaker 2: found ones just said like Homer and all kinds of
- 39:39Speaker 2: other things like power producer or you know whatever, but
- 39:42Speaker 2: this one was just Judge, and I thought it was
- 39:44Speaker 2: just a great, great card because of how clean and
- 39:47Speaker 2: simple it is. This one is out of thirty six.
- 39:51Speaker 2: They like to do all their cards out of kind
- 39:52Speaker 2: of odd numbers like thirty six, eighteen to nine. It
- 39:55Speaker 2: is kind of what they what they do and it
- 39:57Speaker 2: is actually available right now on eBay for two hundre,
- 40:00Speaker 2: which is in grand scheme of Aaron Judge card Triple
- 40:03Speaker 2: Threads cool names like that's actually not that far out
- 40:07Speaker 2: of line, and so this is relatively available, relatively reasonable
- 40:11Speaker 2: to buy. So I'm adding this one to my PC.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is a great pick, like you said,
- 40:16Speaker 1: it is. I'm looking at some of you can see
- 40:18Speaker 1: on the eBay like similar cards of what you made. Also,
- 40:21Speaker 1: like you know, one says like two time a home
- 40:24Speaker 1: run leader with leader shortened to l d R and
- 40:28Speaker 1: the D looks weird because you can't have the male
- 40:30Speaker 1: part of the D on the on the patch relic.
- 40:33Speaker 1: But with this, Judge, it works pretty well. Like the
- 40:36Speaker 1: letters you can tell it says Judge, you don't have
- 40:39Speaker 1: to kind of like work hard to figure out what
- 40:41Speaker 1: it's saying. And on top of it, it's just so
- 40:45Speaker 1: straightforward in terms of what it's trying to communicate that, Yeah,
- 40:48Speaker 1: this is a great pick. Like you said, things can
- 40:50Speaker 1: sometimes get convoluted on these cutouts for triple Threads, but
- 40:54Speaker 1: not this one. This is a This is a perfect
- 40:57Speaker 1: one to put in the PC for Aaron Judge.
- 41:00Speaker 2: All Right, where did you go with, mister Judge. I'm
- 41:02Speaker 2: sure you added another cheap one to the collection here.
- 41:07Speaker 1: This one, I mean relatively, it's not that that expensive
- 41:10Speaker 1: compared to like the whole grand scheme of Aaron Judge cards.
- 41:14Speaker 1: I'm looking at twenty twenty five Panini Boys of Summer
- 41:17Speaker 1: lumber signatures out of seventeen, and so what this card is.
- 41:22Speaker 1: We've talked about Boys of Summer a little bit in
- 41:24Speaker 1: terms of it is a nicely designed set from Panini,
- 41:29Speaker 1: and this this card, especially because like there is no
- 41:34Speaker 1: name usually on the back of the jerseys for the Yankees,
- 41:38Speaker 1: you can't really tell that it's a non licensed card
- 41:40Speaker 1: from the swing with Aaron Judge. You're just missing that
- 41:44Speaker 1: MLB logo on the top of the jersey, but otherwise
- 41:47Speaker 1: it looks like a licensed card for Judge. And then
- 41:50Speaker 1: you've also got a signed sliver of bat relic where
- 41:57Speaker 1: it just bleeds because it's raw wood, and it's an
- 42:00Speaker 1: interesting kind of autograph because of that. And you know what,
- 42:03Speaker 1: We've got so many Aaron Judge cards and the PC
- 42:06Speaker 1: at this point, we're getting close to having him sign
- 42:09Speaker 1: just about every material that appears on a baseball field
- 42:13Speaker 1: and so I figured we had to do this to
- 42:15Speaker 1: put in the piece of rob wood. Maybe that's what
- 42:17Speaker 1: we can shoot for in the future, we'll get like
- 42:20Speaker 1: Aaron Judge signed blades of grass and stuff. Well, I mean,
- 42:25Speaker 1: we almost got with the cornstock.
- 42:26Speaker 2: So yeah, you're not so far off. We almost did.
- 42:29Speaker 1: So that's why I had to go with this one.
- 42:32Speaker 1: I just want to put everything that Aaron Judge is
- 42:34Speaker 1: signed into our PC because I have a feeling we
- 42:37Speaker 1: have a lot more Aaron Judge cards to put into
- 42:39Speaker 1: our PC over the coming years.
- 42:41Speaker 2: I agree with you, and I have to give Panini
- 42:44Speaker 2: credit because we give tops so much grief about their choices,
- 42:48Speaker 2: and I think Panini knows who they are, knows they
- 42:50Speaker 2: don't have a license, and they lean into it and
- 42:53Speaker 2: they try to make it seem as much as possible
- 42:55Speaker 2: that they have licensed cards. And that's exactly what this is.
- 42:58Speaker 2: You you cannot tell unlicensed card. Only the really sharp
- 43:02Speaker 2: guys like you can tell the you know, the MLB
- 43:05Speaker 2: logos missing things like that, But otherwise it is the
- 43:07Speaker 2: cleanest of clean cards, and it's just a fun, fun auto.
- 43:13Speaker 2: I can just imagine Aaron Judge trying to sign this
- 43:15Speaker 2: thing and just being frustrated all get out because you
- 43:17Speaker 2: can tell that the signature is a little a little
- 43:19Speaker 2: uh sketchy here, just because you can tell the hesitation
- 43:24Speaker 2: like that. They didn't they didn't like say, in the
- 43:25Speaker 2: bat now at all. They just kind of through the
- 43:28Speaker 2: woodshepper here and had judged sign it. So it's us.
- 43:32Speaker 2: It's a fun one, that's for sure.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Okay, let's move over to the nlside, because this is
- 43:37Speaker 1: the guy who doubled up on the awards, winning both
- 43:39Speaker 1: the NL Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month.
- 43:43Speaker 1: We are talking outfielder from the Washington Nationals Daylan Lyle As.
- 43:47Speaker 1: He probably also like won a couple of fantasy leagues
- 43:49Speaker 1: out there with his September considering you know, he was
- 43:53Speaker 1: an easy waiver wire ad for most of the season. Honestly,
- 43:56Speaker 1: was like floating around in like five percent unless in
- 43:59Speaker 1: me and Laura Holts like articles every week. He capped
- 44:03Speaker 1: off his season with a crazy September, a two thirty
- 44:07Speaker 1: WRC plus with a slash line that saw him hit
- 44:10Speaker 1: three ninety one four forty seven seventy two came with
- 44:14Speaker 1: six homers, twenty runs, nineteen RBI, seven triples in September alone,
- 44:20Speaker 1: which is I mean, that's a forty two triple pace.
- 44:25Speaker 1: That's absurd. I would love to see somebody really push
- 44:28Speaker 1: past twenty triples again, it's been a while. I think
- 44:31Speaker 1: the last person to maybe do it is probably Curtis Granderson,
- 44:35Speaker 1: and maybe Dalan Lyle is the one that can lead
- 44:37Speaker 1: us to some triples glory in the future because he
- 44:40Speaker 1: looks to be a mainstay in that Washington Nationals outfield
- 44:44Speaker 1: going forward. So pretty limited set of cards here because
- 44:48Speaker 1: he is a twenty twenty one second round pick, but
- 44:50Speaker 1: you know, wasn't really highly touted when he was picked
- 44:53Speaker 1: back in twenty twenty one and honestly kind of flew
- 44:56Speaker 1: through the national system out of nowhere as a twenty
- 44:59Speaker 1: two year old and looks like he's going to have
- 45:02Speaker 1: a really bright future ahead of him. So what card
- 45:04Speaker 1: out of the limited selection did you go with for
- 45:06Speaker 1: Daulian and Lyle.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right, the selection was limited, and I just
- 45:10Speaker 2: didn't want to go with any just basic you know,
- 45:13Speaker 2: first Bowman or something like that, like even though they're
- 45:16Speaker 2: licensed and all that. Then I want to go a
- 45:18Speaker 2: little bit different because I just I wanted to find
- 45:19Speaker 2: something fun and I'm going to go with the twenty
- 45:22Speaker 2: twenty one Leaf Draft State Pride Auto card. The one
- 45:27Speaker 2: I'm looking at here is the black version out of fifteen,
- 45:30Speaker 2: only cost about fifteen dollars at this point in size.
- 45:33Speaker 2: It's a very very available, but it's a really unique
- 45:38Speaker 2: kind of set that they do. The State Pride which
- 45:40Speaker 2: puts the state flag behind the team. And I'm not
- 45:44Speaker 2: going to quiz you on which state flag this is,
- 45:47Speaker 2: but it is the Commonwealth of Kentucky and it says
- 45:51Speaker 2: United we stand, Divided we Fall, which is kind of
- 45:54Speaker 2: the logo or say the slogan there for the state
- 45:57Speaker 2: of Kentucky. And it's just a really really cool card.
- 46:01Speaker 2: He's from Louisville, and I think it's a unique thing
- 46:05Speaker 2: that Leaf does that doesn't get a lot of appreciation
- 46:09Speaker 2: in the hobby. But it's just kind of a cool
- 46:10Speaker 2: looking card and it's unique, and whenever when you don't
- 46:13Speaker 2: have a whole lot of cards out there, the unique
- 46:15Speaker 2: ones should get a little extra attention. Even though it's
- 46:18Speaker 2: all the first Bowman's and things like that, they can
- 46:20Speaker 2: all they get attention for him right now, and it
- 46:23Speaker 2: is deserved. But I want to go a little outside
- 46:25Speaker 2: the box here with something different. That's said. His signature
- 46:27Speaker 2: could use some work. Looks like it was a little shaky,
- 46:31Speaker 2: and you know we'll get that figured out over the
- 46:35Speaker 2: years as he signs a few more things.
- 46:37Speaker 1: Yeah, you can tell they was signed by an eighteen
- 46:39Speaker 1: year old, that's for sure. And you can see it
- 46:41Speaker 1: in just like all of its autos that came through
- 46:43Speaker 1: in leaf and like it's consistent at least, you know,
- 46:47Speaker 1: he really loves using that very basic signature. But I
- 46:51Speaker 1: think this is a great choice. Yeah, great looking card
- 46:54Speaker 1: and you found one. It's eighty percent off on eBay
- 46:57Speaker 1: right now, so snatch it up if you are Dalen
- 47:00Speaker 1: Lyle fan out there.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Eighty percent off. It's uh, that's the sale I've ever seen.
- 47:05Speaker 2: That's called marketing it.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Okay, my choice. I'm gonna go with the twenty twenty
- 47:13Speaker 1: five tops Now seven thirty seven, which is Dalen Lyle's
- 47:17Speaker 1: really kind of first rookie card. It has the RC
- 47:20Speaker 1: stamp on it, which means he is coming to tops
- 47:22Speaker 1: update in a couple of weeks. But with this tops
- 47:26Speaker 1: Now card commemorates I know we've given tops Now some
- 47:29Speaker 1: grief here and there over the over the years in
- 47:32Speaker 1: terms of some of the things they commemorate, but this
- 47:35Speaker 1: one was certainly a moment I will remember from late
- 47:38Speaker 1: in the season. If you recall, there was this game
- 47:41Speaker 1: between the Nats and the Mets that went into extra innings,
- 47:45Speaker 1: and it's especially was very tense because the Mets were
- 47:48Speaker 1: still in the prime of like the playoff race there,
- 47:51Speaker 1: and there was a huge robbery of a home run
- 47:54Speaker 1: for Jared Young in that late innings, but it was
- 47:58Speaker 1: capped by Dalen Lyle in the tenth inning hit an
- 48:03Speaker 1: inside the park home run, and just kind of really
- 48:05Speaker 1: took all of the muster out of the Mets in
- 48:08Speaker 1: terms of that playoff race before they went down to
- 48:11Speaker 1: Miami and eventually lost out. So it's a great picture
- 48:16Speaker 1: of him after he's gotten up after sliding into home.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Francisco Alvarez looks dejected in the background while Dalen Lyle
- 48:23Speaker 1: is just like screaming his heart out. Just shows you know,
- 48:27Speaker 1: that would have been his eighth triple if he hadn't
- 48:29Speaker 1: gone all the way home. But great little card, great
- 48:32Speaker 1: little commemoration of the highlight of Dale and Lyle's career
- 48:36Speaker 1: so far.
- 48:37Speaker 2: I love the raw emotion of this card from both
- 48:40Speaker 2: both players. It is pure dejection of pure elation at
- 48:45Speaker 2: the same time. So this is this is a good pick,
- 48:47Speaker 2: and I'm excited that the Lyles getting a rookie card
- 48:50Speaker 2: an update. It just feel like that was actually kind of,
- 48:53Speaker 2: I don't say a late ad, but I'm a little
- 48:55Speaker 2: surprised that they were able to make that happen. So
- 48:58Speaker 2: I think it's a good and he'll be kind of
- 49:00Speaker 2: a sneaky, sneaky fun pick for update here. So good,
- 49:04Speaker 2: good pick.
- 49:05Speaker 1: All right, let's move on to the pitching side, back
- 49:08Speaker 1: to the Al. We're gonna go with the al Pitcher
- 49:11Speaker 1: of the Month and it was another New York Yankee
- 49:13Speaker 1: here as they swept both the pitcher and batter of
- 49:15Speaker 1: the month. The pitcher was Max Fried who I in
- 49:19Speaker 1: September put up a five and zero record over thirty
- 49:22Speaker 1: three and a third innings with thirty five k's to
- 49:25Speaker 1: nine walks a one eighty nine RA. As you know,
- 49:29Speaker 1: cappt out a really great season that I didn't see
- 49:32Speaker 1: coming for him in the Bronx as his first year,
- 49:34Speaker 1: a two eighty six ERA over one hundred and ninety
- 49:37Speaker 1: five and a third innings nineteen and five record, one
- 49:40Speaker 1: of the few first, like top pitching picks that really
- 49:46Speaker 1: gave you money in the fantasy game. So with that,
- 49:50Speaker 1: Aaron Judge or not Aaron Judge, bat Max reed here,
- 49:54Speaker 1: you know, not too many cards in a new Yankees uniform,
- 49:58Speaker 1: lots of stuff in padres in Braves uniforms. Which route
- 50:01Speaker 1: did you go?
- 50:02Speaker 2: Well? I did start to get on the Yankees path
- 50:04Speaker 2: because I did feel like he deserved to be in
- 50:07Speaker 2: a Yankees uniform in the PC pick and I saw
- 50:10Speaker 2: a card that you picked, and I almost went that
- 50:11Speaker 2: way before knowing that you went there. But then I
- 50:14Speaker 2: saw a card that I just could not avoid. And
- 50:17Speaker 2: I have a tendency to maybe cheat in our PC
- 50:19Speaker 2: every once in a while, and I'm doing it a
- 50:22Speaker 2: little bit here. But it's it's okay. It's okay because
- 50:25Speaker 2: of the guy that I'm I'm bringing in. I found
- 50:28Speaker 2: and I didn't know this card existed, So that's why
- 50:30Speaker 2: I was so excited about this one. I found a
- 50:32Speaker 2: dual auto from twenty twenty twenty twenty twelve Bowman Draft.
- 50:39Speaker 2: It's out of twenty five. It is a dual auto
- 50:41Speaker 2: of Max Freid in Clayton Kershaw and it is just
- 50:46Speaker 2: a beautiful card and I, like I said, I'm cheating
- 50:50Speaker 2: because I'm getting a Kershaw Auto out of the deal here.
- 50:53Speaker 2: But I you know, if I'm gonna not have him
- 50:55Speaker 2: the Yankees uniform, why not go back to early days
- 50:58Speaker 2: and in the Pods uniform. And I think it's just
- 51:02Speaker 2: a fantastic card, you know, like I said, from like
- 51:06Speaker 2: they called the Top ten. This one's a p S
- 51:08Speaker 2: A eight version available for about seven hundred dollars on eBay.
- 51:12Speaker 2: But even for a Kershaw signed card, that's actually pretty
- 51:16Speaker 2: seems pretty reasonable. And you know, you have to have
- 51:20Speaker 2: to love the early cards of some of these aces,
- 51:25Speaker 2: and a lot of times when you end up with
- 51:26Speaker 2: these dual cards, it's it's kind of, you know, one
- 51:29Speaker 2: guy brings it down and for the GUYLI freed to
- 51:34Speaker 2: be as good as he is. And still somehow bringing
- 51:36Speaker 2: this card down against Kershaw's is impressive in its own right.
- 51:39Speaker 2: So there's there were a lot of duels out there,
- 51:41Speaker 2: mostly him and Spencer Schrider and a J. Smister Shover.
- 51:45Speaker 2: But I didn't feel like that was right. I felt
- 51:47Speaker 2: like it was okay to go back to the early
- 51:49Speaker 2: days and sneak in a Clayton Kershaw Auto to the PC,
- 51:53Speaker 2: So yes, I'm loving it.
- 51:55Speaker 1: I think it's a great, yeah, great, fantastic pick. And
- 51:58Speaker 1: what ties them together is that they were both number
- 52:00Speaker 1: seven overall picks and so that is I think a cool,
- 52:04Speaker 1: kind of momentous little thing. And both lefties, so you've
- 52:08Speaker 1: also got the duality of Padres and Dodgers on one
- 52:12Speaker 1: card together. As you know, Freed was drafted by the
- 52:15Speaker 1: Padres and started in that system, So grape find great pick.
- 52:19Speaker 1: I also had no idea these cards existed either. Okay,
- 52:24Speaker 1: you hinted at it. The card that I went with,
- 52:27Speaker 1: it's pretty it's a pretty basic pick in terms of
- 52:29Speaker 1: twenty twenty five Top Series two the Golden Mirror variation
- 52:33Speaker 1: super short print of Max Freed, mostly because there aren't
- 52:37Speaker 1: a lot of cards in him in a Yankees uniform,
- 52:40Speaker 1: and in fact, I was poking around, I don't think
- 52:43Speaker 1: there's any autographed cards of him in a Yankees uniform yet,
- 52:47Speaker 1: so maybe we'll start seeing some an update or other
- 52:51Speaker 1: sets that are going to be coming out this winter,
- 52:52Speaker 1: but those don't exist. So this is probably the most
- 52:56Speaker 1: desirable Max Freed card out there currently with him in
- 53:00Speaker 1: a Yankees uniform, and it's just barely it's from the
- 53:03Speaker 1: day that he signed. It's a picture of him in
- 53:05Speaker 1: an empty Yankee stadium wearing the Yankees jersey and hat
- 53:09Speaker 1: over his shirt and tie after he inked his mega
- 53:14Speaker 1: deal there. And so, yeah, if you're looking for the
- 53:18Speaker 1: card of Max Freed and a Yankees uniformed collects, I
- 53:21Speaker 1: think this has to be your option.
- 53:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're absolutely right. So, like I said,
- 53:25Speaker 2: I saw this one, I'm like, yeah, if I'm thinking
- 53:27Speaker 2: of the Yankees one, it's probably this. And I think
- 53:29Speaker 2: you have to we have to call out that the
- 53:31Speaker 2: Golden Mirror. We probably won't give it as much credit
- 53:34Speaker 2: as we as we need to, Like that has been
- 53:36Speaker 2: something that Topps has gotten right over the last few years.
- 53:39Speaker 2: It's in maybe as part of the stadium club lovers
- 53:42Speaker 2: that we are where they're bringing amazing photography in and
- 53:47Speaker 2: then kind of just putting on a pedestal. And so
- 53:50Speaker 2: I absolutely love this card. I think it's great and yeah,
- 53:53Speaker 2: it's good ad to the PC.
- 53:55Speaker 1: All right, Well, I should have also probably mentioned those
- 53:57Speaker 1: were the third and fourth Max Freed cards we put
- 53:59Speaker 1: into our PC because he was a repeat winner of
- 54:02Speaker 1: the Picture of the Month award. The guy on the
- 54:04Speaker 1: NL side also a repeat winner for this year, as
- 54:07Speaker 1: these are his third and fourth PC cards. We're talking
- 54:10Speaker 1: Yoshinobo Yamamoto from the Los Angeles Dodgers, who capped his
- 54:15Speaker 1: year with a fantastic September only went one to no
- 54:18Speaker 1: only picked up win win, but it was a point
- 54:21Speaker 1: sixty seven ERA over twenty seven innings with thirty four
- 54:24Speaker 1: k's and eleven walks caps off a great great season
- 54:28Speaker 1: from him, especially considering his draft price. He was an
- 54:31Speaker 1: ace for you in fantasy with a two to forty
- 54:34Speaker 1: nine ERA over one hundred and seventy third and two
- 54:37Speaker 1: thirds innings with twelve and eight record and two hundred
- 54:41Speaker 1: and one strikeout see clips that two hundred strikeout mark,
- 54:43Speaker 1: so rounding into form with that giant twelve year, three
- 54:47Speaker 1: and twenty five million dollar contract coming to fuition paying
- 54:51Speaker 1: off for the Dodgers in year two. Where did you
- 54:54Speaker 1: go for your Yoshinobo Yamamoto card here in September?
- 54:58Speaker 2: Well, I have enjoyed the fact that I was looking
- 54:59Speaker 2: back at the PC on this one realized the first
- 55:01Speaker 2: Moto card I cheated but On as well and got
- 55:04Speaker 2: a duel with him and Otani, so I had to
- 55:08Speaker 2: be good this time around, but I went, I you
- 55:12Speaker 2: know me, I love the Japanese card, so I did
- 55:14Speaker 2: go overseas for this one. I went with his twenty
- 55:16Speaker 2: nineteen BBM, and I'm gonna say this, this is an
- 55:21Speaker 2: amazing name for a card, Premium Glory his. I'll call
- 55:28Speaker 2: it a jumbo patch card out of thirty from the
- 55:33Speaker 2: BBM set. And not only is it a jumbo patch,
- 55:36Speaker 2: but it is the patch from the where I think
- 55:40Speaker 2: it's truly part of the buffalo saying on the front
- 55:46Speaker 2: of his jersey you can hid of make it out.
- 55:48Speaker 2: I believe it's like the end of the F in
- 55:51Speaker 2: the A and then the L as what I believe
- 55:56Speaker 2: it is, but it's it's like a purely a strong
- 56:00Speaker 2: portion of the jersey that really really sticks out. And
- 56:04Speaker 2: these cards I can have seen in the BBM sets
- 56:08Speaker 2: where the Genesis sets over there with these really really
- 56:11Speaker 2: cool patches, are extremely desirable, extremely hard to get your
- 56:14Speaker 2: hands on because you are playing kind of with this
- 56:16Speaker 2: overseas market. This one right now, if you want it
- 56:19Speaker 2: is a thousand dollars on on on eBay that says
- 56:25Speaker 2: is a PSA six, But there's only two that have
- 56:28Speaker 2: actually ever been put into PSA, so hey, maybe crack
- 56:31Speaker 2: this one and resubmit it or something like that. I
- 56:33Speaker 2: don't know what the actual issue with it is. It
- 56:35Speaker 2: looks like maybe as a soft corner or two on
- 56:38Speaker 2: this one, but still the patch on it is just
- 56:41Speaker 2: just an amazing patch. So I had to had to
- 56:43Speaker 2: stick to the to a Japanese card, and I had
- 56:45Speaker 2: to find a really really cool patch because you know,
- 56:47Speaker 2: I'm a sucker for those.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Yeah, and what a fine man. This thing is a beauty,
- 56:51Speaker 1: And I mean some of the other suggestions that come
- 56:54Speaker 1: along with it on eBay might have to tuck away
- 56:56Speaker 1: for future Yoto a PC pick, because there were some
- 57:00Speaker 1: beautiful cards of his in Japan, but you found a
- 57:04Speaker 1: premium one that this is certainly like. Not only is
- 57:08Speaker 1: it like a highly desirable card because of it being
- 57:11Speaker 1: from the Japanese market, but even though it's out of thirty,
- 57:15Speaker 1: this is like a one of one considering how sick
- 57:18Speaker 1: the patch on it is. And that happens a lot
- 57:21Speaker 1: when you get just really great patches that capture the
- 57:24Speaker 1: entire logo or a great piece of the jerseys, so
- 57:28Speaker 1: great find.
- 57:30Speaker 2: All right, where did you go with mister Yamamoto.
- 57:33Speaker 1: All right, I went with This is another one where
- 57:37Speaker 1: I was going through it with the Roki Susaki cards there,
- 57:40Speaker 1: and I mean, the Yamamoto market is picking back up again.
- 57:44Speaker 1: I had to go to the twenty twenty four Top
- 57:47Speaker 1: Stadium Club Beam Team short print, so I don't think
- 57:51Speaker 1: we've ever put a Bean team into our PC, which
- 57:53Speaker 1: is kind of surprising. It's one of my favorite designs
- 57:56Speaker 1: that it's from the mid nineties. It actually it stands
- 58:00Speaker 1: out to me as more of a basketball insert. Which
- 58:03Speaker 1: speaking of which, Tops got the license back for NBA
- 58:06Speaker 1: cards again, which is they look really good. I might
- 58:09Speaker 1: have to get into some of those. I haven't collected
- 58:11Speaker 1: basketball cards in forever, but they look sharp, especially in
- 58:15Speaker 1: this year's twenty twenty five design. But this Beam Team
- 58:18Speaker 1: card from Yamamoto, the reason I picked it is I'm
- 58:22Speaker 1: pretty certain it's from the picture is from his MLB
- 58:26Speaker 1: debut when they were in Japan at the beginning of
- 58:28Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. That you look at the background of
- 58:32Speaker 1: where they are, they're certainly in a dome, and I
- 58:35Speaker 1: don't know any stadium in MLB that has that outfield
- 58:40Speaker 1: fence look to it. So if you are looking at
- 58:43Speaker 1: this card, and you know your your your ballpark's really good,
- 58:47Speaker 1: or your Japanese ballparks, and you think I'm wrong, go
- 58:51Speaker 1: ahead it, reach out and correct me. But I'm like
- 58:54Speaker 1: ninety ninety five percent certain this is from his MLB debut.
- 58:58Speaker 1: The picture, and then on top of it you get
- 59:00Speaker 1: the great classic beam team design with the foil kind
- 59:05Speaker 1: of holographic pattern on the sides, the big old word
- 59:08Speaker 1: art Beam Team on the top of it. You can't
- 59:11Speaker 1: go wrong with this card. It's it is a short print,
- 59:13Speaker 1: so it's going to run you somewhere between like ranges
- 59:18Speaker 1: from like forty to seventy five bucks is what I'm
- 59:20Speaker 1: looking at, but that might be ticking up considering where
- 59:23Speaker 1: the Dodgers are headed this postseason.
- 59:26Speaker 2: I think this was fun. I am pretty certain. I'm
- 59:28Speaker 2: actually trying to find some pictures here. I'm pretty sure
- 59:31Speaker 2: sure you're right that this is from his debut, which
- 59:34Speaker 2: is just a cool little catch here. And I also
- 59:37Speaker 2: love the fact that you said it makes the kind
- 59:38Speaker 2: of that basketball connection because that stadium club logo on
- 59:41Speaker 2: it is so much circa nineteen nineties basketball card, and
- 59:46Speaker 2: that is a cool, cool call out here. So yeah,
- 59:50Speaker 2: this is a fun one. I absolutely love it. Didn't
- 59:52Speaker 2: realize the value on some of these beam teams and
- 59:55Speaker 2: kind of you know, I think they've made a little
- 59:56Speaker 2: bit more rare than what it used to be. So
- 59:59Speaker 2: this is a cool fine the little fact toys that
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: you're able to pull into this that I would not
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: have caught that myself.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: All right, well, we've just got one player left because
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: Dylan Lyle doubled up on us between or not MVP,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: but Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: And so we've just got the Rookie of the Month
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: and the AAR left. And this is gonna be a
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: fun one because every once in a while on our
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: PC we get the random odd ball that really sticks
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: out like a sore thumb. That's what Joey Cantillo is
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: going to be for the rest of time as he
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: is in the Cards and Categories PC. After putting up
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: twenty nine innings of a one to fifty five era
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: with twenty eight k's to six walks, went to to
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: oh for the Guardians down the stretch and save their bacon.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: Like without Joey Cantillo, the Guards would not have made
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: it into the playoffs. He's really what carried them down
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: the stretch and shored up that pitching staff that was
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: kind of in tatters to be honestly out to be
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: outside of Gavin Williams, they didn't have too much going
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: on there. As you know, the pitching has kind of
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: hit a little bit of a bump. But the twenty
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: five year old South Pod Joey Cantillo might be bringing
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: in that Guardian's rotation back on the up and up.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: So actually quite a few cards here for him because
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: when he was drafted by the Padres in twenty seventeen,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: which was a long time ago, he was floating around
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: in lots of bowman sets for a long time. So
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: where did you go for Joey Cantillo.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so, first of all, Hawaiian native and one of
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: the last guys from the nineties born in the nineties.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: That does not make me feel terribly old because he's
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: born in December of ninety nine. But I'm going with
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: a twenty twenty Tops Pro debute card for Joey Kntillo,
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: partially because I believe I have a version of this
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: card already in my collection. I don't know if it's
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: this exact one. I wouldn't have a chance to pull
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: it out before this, but it is him following through
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: on a pitch for the Lake Ellsnore Storm team in
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: the miners there, and it's just a very simple card.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: I'm actually a big fan of Pro Debut, very accessible
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: set if you've never ripped it before. Usually it's like
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: seventy eighty bucks for a box you get maybe four
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: autos things like that. It's very very fun set to
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: get in and it's cheap. It's eight bucks for an
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: auto best offer maybe you can get it for four.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: But I think it's just a fun card and I've
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: always enjoyed the especially twenty twenty version of Pro Debut.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: Just that twenty twenty card design overall was a really
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: really strong one. So go with twenty twenty Pro Debut
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: card for the I'll help the odd ball in our
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: PC here.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is a great pick, great great
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: hat for the lake Elson or a Storm back in
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: the day with just the eyes from their logo and
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: Joey Cantillo's got a pretty slick signature, so it is
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: a great looking card. It's a cheap card and honestly,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: maybe not a bad investment going into the off season
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: because twenty five years old. We've talked about our love
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: for big, old young pitchers. Six foot four two twenty
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: five lefty rained in the locks this year. He might
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: be a pretty great sleeper pick going into twenty twenty six.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: Absolutely, so all right, finish us out? Did you go
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: bigger than the eight dollar card a little bit? I mean,
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: this one's still pretty affordable. We're looking at It is
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: a more basic pick because Joey Cantillo, his rookie cards
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: were in twenty twenty five Tops products this year, So
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: I went with the Tops Chrome Auto, but I'd do
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: the blue wave refractor just to add a little bit
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: of extra color match because we didn't really do any
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: other color matches this month. But true, that's odd for us, I.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Know, so I had to bring it back home. I
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: would have dead the red, but I couldn't find an
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: of five Joey Cantio Auto out there. So the much
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: more approachable version is the one fifty to get the
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: blue and still has a sharp signature, still has taken
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: the full time to put out that signature down on
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: all the products he's signing, And this one should run
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: you like twenty to thirty bucks again honestly, like I
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: might be looking for some Joey Cantillo autos and tucking
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: them away going into next season, because if he breaks
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: out and makes an All Star game, I mean that
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: just bass chrome auto is going to be worth twenty bucks.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: One's probably trading for more like five six right now.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: So great season for Joey Cantillo. And it's just a
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: classic kind of card of him pitching, so nothing too special,
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: just great blue ray wave pattern. And on top of it,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: you get the twenty twenty five tops design on it,
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: which I think is going to really go down as
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: one of the great kind of tops designs of recent memories.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: So especially why we were mentioning why the basketball product
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: looks so great this year too, So that's where I went.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Yep, I like it, and I think it's a great call.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: He does a really really good signature, and I think
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: the fact that he's maintained it to cards cards five
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: years apart, that signature is not changed very much. It
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: is very impressive. So I like this pick. I like
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: the sneaky color match there, and I believe that you
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: have the city connects Jersey on it's and so that's
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: that's that's just another cool little inklean of this one,
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: but yeah, very available and a stinky guy for for
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: next year, so might have to might have to dig
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: into him a little bit more with the end of
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: the season because I'm guaranteed most people aren't thinking about
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: Joey Kntiel.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: No no, not not now with the Guardians out of
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: the playoffs now too, so good person to tuck away.
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: All right, Well that's going to wrap us up for
