- Lucas: Okay, Luna, we're back at the park. Episode 140 of Learn Spanish with Fexingo. Luna: Right, and we've been buying snacks. Last time we got ice cream, remember? Lucas: Yeah, that was episode 128. But today, something more filling. How about a hot dog? Luna: Oh, a hot dog at the park. That sounds good. So how do I ask for one? Lucas: You say: Quiero un perro caliente. Quiero un perro caliente. Luna: Quiero un perro caliente. That's 'I want a hot dog'. Lucas: Exactly. Perro caliente — literally 'hot dog'. Now, you'll also need to ask the price. ¿Cuánto cuesta? Luna: ¿Cuánto cuesta? Lucas: Yes. So the vendor might say 'Cinco pesos' or whatever. But then they'll ask what you want on it. ¿Con qué lo quieres? Luna: ¿Con qué lo quieres? 'With what do you want it?' Lucas: Yeah. And you can answer: Con mostaza, por favor. Con mostaza, por favor. Luna: Con mostaza, por favor. Mustard. Lucas: Right. Then they hand it over and say: Aquí tienes. Luna: Aquí tienes. 'Here you go.' And then I say: Gracias. Lucas: Perfect. So let's run through the whole exchange. You walk up and say: Quiero un perro caliente. Luna: Quiero un perro caliente. Lucas: Then: ¿Cuánto cuesta? Luna: ¿Cuánto cuesta? Lucas: Vendor says the price. Then asks: ¿Con qué lo quieres? Luna: And I say: Con mostaza, por favor. Lucas: Then they say: Aquí tienes. Luna: Gracias. Lucas: And you enjoy your hot dog. Let's practice once more. Say it with me: Quiero un perro caliente. Luna: Quiero un perro caliente. Lucas: ¿Cuánto cuesta? Luna: ¿Cuánto cuesta? Lucas: Con mostaza, por favor. Luna: Con mostaza, por favor. Lucas: Aquí tienes. Luna: Gracias. Lucas: See, you've got it. Now, you could also say 'con ketchup' or 'con cebolla'. But mustard is classic. Luna: Right. I like that this is so practical. If I'm at a park in a Spanish-speaking country, I can actually order a hot dog. Lucas: Exactly. And you know, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with this language, it's because of listeners like you. A small group of listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that literally funds making this many episodes. So thank you to those who do. Luna: Yeah, it's nice that it's listener-supported and ad-free. Anyway, back to the hot dog. So after I say gracias, what if I also want ketchup? Lucas: Good question. You could say: Con mostaza y ketchup, por favor. You just add 'y' for 'and'. So: Con mostaza y ketchup, por favor. Luna: Con mostaza y ketchup, por favor. Simple. Lucas: Yeah. And if you want onions, you say: Con cebolla, por favor. Cebolla. Luna: Con cebolla, por favor. Got it. Lucas: So now you can fully customize your hot dog in Spanish. Let's do one more quick role-play. I'll be the vendor. Luna: Okay. Quiero un perro caliente. Lucas: ¿Con qué lo quieres? Luna: Con mostaza, por favor. Lucas: Aquí tienes. Luna: Gracias. Lucas: Perfect. So next time you're at the park, you're all set. Practice these phrases, and we'll see you next time. Luna: Adiós!
