[upbeat music] Hit me. Hit me. [upbeat music] Swing it, Sammy. There's a... Ah. Hey, we're getting going on the show early here.
• 0:17
There's a, there's a guy down at the local pubbery, I don't know if you remember Andy. Travels the world, lives with his mom, blah, blah, blah. Very aromatic.
• 0:27
When he wants an- [laughs] When he wants another beer, he just goes, "Hit me." Really? [laughs] JK. Hey, you know what? It's, uh- No, I don't... Full Spectrum Cycling. I don't know nothing from nobody. This is show 252.
• 0:43
I'm rearrang- Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun... I'm rearranging stuff on the desk. You see that. Dun, dun, dun, dun. It's a kind whatever, lighter. That's Tony- I got one... That's Tony over there.
• 0:53
That's JK with the, uh, how many years old? What? Your shirt, Public Image- 14... 14th year... Limited. Yep. Today would be the- Wait, though. What year is it for the WMC? 'Cause I believe I'm wearing 35 today. 35.
• 1:08
So 35 and they're... So this is s- almost the same age, man. I don't- Huh?... I haven't been wearing cycling shirts to work- Oh, no. God... so I had to wear one today. [laughs] It's seven, eight years old.
• 1:18
Two, th- That one's older. Yeah. 14. Yeah. 14 years. 14 years. Eight years. 14 years. Then you tack on or subtract Johnny Rotten's age- From, uh-... by the hypotenuse... from his shoe size. Yeah. Right?
• 1:32
[laughs] Depending on how snarky he was that day. Dude, he... It, it was funny 'cause he was, like, being all me- I remember it. He was, like, being all mellow, and then all of a sudden he's just like, "Yeah."
• 1:42
[imitates blowing raspberry] And he's just blowing snot rockets- Oh, that's never gonna happen... [laughs] on stage. And I'm like, "R- all right." Can you still do that when you're 80 and get away with it? Yeah.
• 1:53
Uh, saw Patty Smith, and she was running around on her thing, and she's a spitter. [imitates spitting] And she would just, like, spit on stage. And- I know... it was awesome... re- reminds me of baseball players.
• 2:04
Yeah, totally. And I kinda forget about it until you're, like, audience of it going like, "Yeah, that's why I paid the fucking 50 bucks for it." [laughs] Does that make sense?
• 2:12
So apparently Bikini Kill mu- must not be selling, 'cause today there's half off tickets. Sure. But my, my opinion of that is is why on earth would you want to go see Bikini Kill at the Riverside? You can't dance.
• 2:27
Yes, you can. Oh, you can mosh pitting up in the front. On the front, but that means you gotta get there at, like- Oh, no... 4:30 in the afternoon. No, you just get by security with the little zzt, zzt.
• 2:37
Then you bring- Yeah... break out the chairs and- Sweat your shorts... da, da, da, da, da. All right. All right. And that's how you do it. So Tony, you riled up the MKE bike, uh- Goodness me... Facebook business there.
• 2:50
Hey, man. But- I can't help it... that was- I saw him today again, too, I think, but I was coming from behind, and he was oddly enough, you ready for this, on the beer line. Oh. Which apparently is okay.
• 2:59
I- it's just that one sidewalk, and that guy is a jackass. South side of Locust Street bridge, right? South side of Locust Street, br- same place he was when he was pointing to all of us one day.
• 3:08
Oh, I think I know which one you're talking about. Him and his buddy were running and he kept, he kept pointing to the bike lane 'cause we were on the side of the- Yeah, go down there... sidewalk.
• 3:14
Yeah, I'm like- If you're comfortable down there. No, no, a bit of a prick that way on the other side. I'm not gonna cast stone. This is, yeah, I'm not gonna die on this hill.
• 3:22
I, I even, for this asshole, I even- [laughs]... pulled over and stopped. Yeah. 'Cause I had gotten to the little- I'm not gonna die on this hill. [laughs] I got to the little part on the
• 3:30
s- east side where there's that area where you can start running on the trail, and I pulled over and stopped for this guy to run by me, and he just kept pointing at the, at the bike lane. Yeah.
• 3:39
Oh, I, I, I thought I saved the, the, the law which says the south side's okay- Mm-hmm... because it's connecting the beer line with the oak leaf. Right. Right. And people drive in the b- Bike lane...
• 3:53
alleged bike lane in their cars. Yeah. So... [laughs] Uh, but the north side apparently is not okay. Not, not to mention, 7:10 in the morning, he's the only other person on the bridge. Really? This guy does- Really?
• 4:07
He, he may have been called a jackass a few times. By you or others? Yeah, by me. [laughs] No, I almost turned around, I was so mad. What is the Facebook, MKE? BKE. BKE. BKE.
• 4:18
If you're in the Milwaukee area, you might wanna check it out. For all your Milwaukee bicycle- Shenanigans... shenaniganery needs. Yeah, and that got, like, at least 50 people- Yeah... commenting. I mean, you know.
• 4:30
Well, and it, yeah, even the- It's a big group... even the shittery and the, well, every comment pool is mm-hmm. Gonna have, yeah. Um, it wasn't that toxic.
• 4:41
[laughs] There was one guy who wants two lanes in both directions. And, well- Right, there was that guy... I was just saying, it wasn't that toxic. It never- [laughs] I don't think it ever had, really.
• 4:49
I don't think there's ever two lanes legally. Not real two lanes- Right... although they- No... certainly used it. Okay. And now we're giving it more oxygen. The fire might now be...
• 4:57
[laughs] This is something- He, he's not listening. Here's, here's- He's not listening... here's something for our- Doesn't matter... our, uh, our audio listeners. We ha- we do a thing with the camera thing now. Hey.
• 5:08
Huh? Tune in. There's a link to the channel in the show notes at thefullspectrumcycling.com. I probably never told anybody what the actual website is. That's why nobody goes there. Thank you. I do. Come again. Thank you.
• 5:20
Come again. Is that how you access the show, or do you get it through a podcatcher of some type? I access it straight from the website. I don't have- Gotcha... any podcasting type- JK doesn't listen to the show.
• 5:29
I do, I do. [laughs] I, yes, now I have to, like, see how I'm sucking my gut and- 'Cause, well, the shirt fits well. Well, yeah, this one does. The future Mike. Yes.
• 5:42
[laughs] The club shirt, that's why I had the thing on, uh, like this, like, because it's mm, snug. Have you seen, I think it's another Facebook thing, that, That's Some Milwaukee Bullshit? Oh, yes. No. I love that.
• 5:56
Oh, it's- It's-... just a beautiful, beautiful- It's-... commentary on life... it's got its, it's got its moments and, and... But this is my own take on that Pizza Man might return to Downer Avenue.
• 6:06
Did we talk about that last week? Yeah, but with a different owner. It's not Pizza Man then. Uh, Mike's dead. Maybe it'll be good. Mike's dead. Ooh. Mike is dead. Long live Mike. Oh, Mike died? Yeah.
• 6:14
Oh, I didn't know that. Oh, yeah, he died, like, a fucking decade ago- Oh, okay... I think. I don't know. Maybe. But [laughs] We're running down this Milwaukee Minute or Five or so. No. Yeah.
• 6:26
So last Friday was the bring-a-bike, get-a-ticket to the Lake Express. There's still a way to do it. Yeah. It was on The Link today. Uh, do- yes.
• 6:37
You need to call the m- I think it's only the m- I think you call the Madison location, and you get a round-trip ticket, which is normally 180 bucks, for 100. 100 bucks. Still a hell of a deal. Um, shit yeah.
• 6:49
And I think it's 15 for the bike or something? It t- costs a couple extra bucks to put your bike on there. Yeah, it's 15, at least less. That trip. Regi- registration for the 24 is on Sunday. 34.
• 7:04
The th- [laughs] Riverwest 34. 34. Yep. That'll be fun. I gotta get an email out to the team tomorrow. Yeah. I have to dance this- Tonight or tomorrow... this weekend. I have to dogsit at some point
• 7:18
throughout the weekend, and I'm gonna spice. Dogs like parks. [laughs] Not this one. [laughs] There's gonna be a lo- Not yet... I've had a lot of dogs there too. Not yet. Oh, yeah. Weather's supposed to be decent-ish.
• 7:33
This, this is a dog that does not need more stress. And that's all that's gonna be. [laughs] I'm gonna show up later than usual, I've decided. I'm not gonna spend the night.
• 7:42
Are you doing the registration for the whole Scardina's team? Yeah. Well, I have to sign up and do the lottery. Are you gonna, are you gonna wear your helmet when you're racing? Yeah, of course.
• 7:53
[laughs] Tony got me into the Nutcase. It's a great- I love that helmet... it's a great helmet. [laughs] No, and- Nutcases are good. I haven't seen the enduro style Nutcases. This is their city- Right?
• 8:08
It's, yeah- More of a commuter type... it's sort of the commuter-y. Yeah. Not- But this thing, I know other companies have had this, this kind of adjustable deal. It's the greatest. But it allows to wear the hat.
• 8:17
Oh, yeah. See how nice this sounds? I wore it, I wore it with my Mediposa hat. So, uh, Cali- Oh... Cali does as well. Yes, they do. Yes, they do. They do. But are they still available? I don't know. They probably are.
• 8:30
[laughs] I don't know. It is a, it is a really good- No, I'm just-... mechanism, and you can get this with lights too, should you feel so inclined. Yeah. I, they're just, I like Nutcase stuff. Uh. Yeah. It's good stuff.
• 8:38
Um, Daniel wears a glow-in-the-dark one now, and he tells every kid when we leave school, "It glows in the dark." And they know how to do their, they know how to do their casings- Oh. Yes... in clever, in clever ways.
• 8:49
Yeah. For, for the skate- You know, and they're not re- For the skate space... donkulously expensive. Mm-mm. Mm-mm. No. Ineffective. So check 'em out, Nutcase. Hey. Do it. Do it. Look at 'em. Get a MIPS. Yes.
• 9:01
Also good because when you fall down a lot, you don't have to replace your helmet as often. [laughs] Well, and it's like 15 bucks more. Why would you not do that? Yeah. For sure. You just like buying helmets maybe. Ugh.
• 9:14
I don't know. I don't know. Maybe. Who's, who's riding? Are we riding? Let's, let's get to the, let's do this thing right now. Oh. Oh, yeah. Oh, ding dong. [bell ringing] What is this doing? It is being a- It's ag-...
• 9:27
funnel... it's aggravating you. It's, uh, it's Ha- [imitates plane] It's Ham's again, folks. Only it's taller. It's taller than The Fluffer. Can't, can't really go with the high-test stuff all the time.
• 9:39
Well, you can, but then you're just a drunk. [laughs] And I'm only halfway there. No. Then, yeah, then you're just, like, the show-off drunk. All right, Bon Jovi. Apparently there's a new Netflix Bon Jovi show. Eh, yeah.
• 9:52
Of course. I'll watch it, like, next year. I don't want everyone telling me what to watch. Yeah, you kinda got that thing going. I always do. "Hey, hey, hey, you should watch Game of Thrones."
• 10:00
Have you, have you watched Game of Thrones yet? Never. Yes. Nope. Eventually I did, but- That's like eight years later... good Lord, it's like, no, the w- That one for me was Lost. Have you watched Lost?
• 10:12
I've never seen an episode. Y- yeah. Well, when I had my broken foot and I was stuck on the couch- Well... I had nothing to do. Yeah. Yeah.
• 10:17
It was something- And I was all hopped up on oxycodone, so I had, like, no sleep... yeah, Lost was around the time of, like, Battlestar Galactica, where it was just, like, shit on TV. Like, ooh.
• 10:24
It ended and I, and I almost broke the TV. But the, but the Battlestar Galactica had the, the Starbuck, who was n- The female Starbuck... the female Starbuck. Not the original Starbuck Starbuck. Not Dirk Benedict, right?
• 10:37
[laughs] Dun, dun, dun. Oh, oh, jeez. Give it a s- Oh, cripes. Oh. Someone's calling? I don't know. There's a thing. Let me- [laughs] I, um- There's a glacier coming through that window. Oh, look at that.
• 10:49
Hey, welcome to the radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line? So- Big Sexy. Hello. Hey. Hey, everybody. It's been a long time with the Big Sexy business. Can, can you hear me okay? I can hear you just fine.
• 11:07
Are you on the dark side- That's better... of the moon? It's not a moon. I'm on the dark side of something. [laughs] So fill us in with what's happening with- Yeah, it's-... with your, uh, your beginning of your season.
• 11:21
Dude, I'll, I'll tell you what, New Orleans, I got to, uh, New Orleans, uh, January 18th, and it's been an awesome nightmare. [laughs] Okay. It's like she, it, it's like she usually is. You know, that makes sense.
• 11:37
Um, I always call her a... Yeah. I, I always call her a hideous bitch goddess. [laughs] She's so beautiful. She's so ugly. She's so terrible. She's so awful. She's so nasty. She's so awesome.
• 11:53
I had such a good time there. [laughs] But yeah. You are a coaxer. I, I mean, I'll, I'll tell you what, um, Heather is gonna be forever in New Orleans. I just dropped her off this morning. She's done. Heather's retired.
• 12:09
She's over with. It's over. And, uh, I took a job in the shitty French Quarter Kitchen and earned myself a new tricycle. Right. And then I got it stolen. [laughs] Oh, no.
• 12:26
Yeah, I, we didn't- But, uh-... get through that whole story, I don't think. It was, you said it was your fault somehow, if I remember right. No, it absolutely was my fault. I know where I am. I know the rules.
• 12:41
I've eaten... The problem is, me and Heather, we've never had any problems, no problems in five years, in and out of New Orleans all the time. No problems. So I'm like, "Eh, I'll be all right."
• 12:55
And then, yeah, it just happened. This new floozy- The brand, brand-new tricycle got stolen. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, um, and then I named her Lucy right before she got stolen. Then, uh,
• 13:11
I did not know what to do, so I had to do a couple repairs on Heather so she could get me around town at least, and, uh, didn't know what to do. Came up here to the North Shore, and, uh, I'm, I'm in Mandeville.
• 13:24
I'm across the lake from New Orleans at the moment. I, I came over here.
• 13:29
Um, not exactly sure what was gonna happen, but then, uh, a good friend of mine, Brian, and his beautiful family, uh, put me to work in their backyard and, uh, put me to work in their garden, and I earned a new one, another new one.
• 13:43
I noticed you made a color- And, um-... you made a color change on this one. It looks red or burgundy. Yeah, you might as well put a fucking Atlanta Falcons fucking sticker on it right now.
• 13:54
[laughs] In, in red and black, and then it's like, I, uh, I'm like, "Okay." Michael Penix? I didn't hear what you said. He, he's blathering over there. I'm sorry. Yeah. No, Michael Penix- Oh, okay...
• 14:08
Atlanta thing, you said. Right. No, but, but it, it is, it is more of a crimson than a red. It looks more like a Alabama bike than a Falcons bike, but at the same time, it's not my ideal color. Sure.
• 14:21
But, um, it's what I have. It's what I have, and it's what I'm gonna deal with, and her name is Isabella, and I'm gonna call her Izzy. It's my mom's name. And, uh, me and Izzy... Is that your mom's name?
• 14:36
That's my mom's and my daughter's name. All righty, then. I got a, I, I've got a Bella, I've got a Bella in, uh, Detroit. Got a niece, Bella. And, uh, but this one's gonna be Izzy. We're, we're gonna call her Izzy.
• 14:53
That's, that's what her name is, is Izzy. Very cool. And, uh, we're, uh, gonna go, we're gonna, uh, be in Mississippi tomorrow, and we're going to Pensacola, Florida. Ooh. Look at some bikinis, hopefully. Hopefully.
• 15:08
Then we're heading to Detroit. That's right by the, uh- Um-... Matt Gates. Where is Matt Gates? Oh, he's over there somewhere. He's standing. Isn't he in the- Standing proud... there he is. There, I see him. Right there.
• 15:19
Yeah. If you see him in Florida, you can run him over- Yeah... please. Yeah, isn't he in that little zone- [laughs] Okay... that you were speaking of? Pretty sure. Well, yeah, um, I didn't get a chance, uh- [laughs]...
• 15:32
for my, for my, my bike guy in New Orleans didn't get a chance to get her, get his hands on her, so, uh, my brakes aren't quite right. But, um, we're just gonna have to deal with that for now. But yeah, she's brand-new.
• 15:45
She's ready to go. The basket's different. It's smaller. I, uh, I'm gonna get on the horn with Schwinn tomorrow to see if I can't get a basket exchanged.
• 15:55
I want a basket like Heather's, and- Oh, you just gotta work it-... I don't know. I'll bu-... work it Work it. Yeah, they've, uh, they sh- they, are they- Yeah, I know... are they sponsoring you this time?
• 16:05
Well, I'll tell you what, and this is heartbreaking for me. I, I, I really don't like talking about it. I sent a multiple paragraph
• 16:18
email to the person who's in charge of public relations at Schwinn, and I poured my little heart out. I told the whole story. It was really w...
• 16:27
I've, I've had, I've had other people r- read it, and they're like, "That was really well-written. That is wonderful. That's a really good e- you know, really good letter." I've gotten zero response,
• 16:42
and I'm like- Not, not even a-... "Okay. Send me some-"... "Go take a flying leap" kind of response? Or a cease and desist? Yeah. [laughs] Right. Not, not, not, not even- Or acknowledgement of- Not even a-...
• 16:49
"We have received it, and we will get back to you between six and eight weeks." "Thank, thanks for, thanks for buying Schwinn and riding Schwinn for five years, and now you've bought three tricycles from us.
• 17:00
Go fuck yourself." Nothing. Not a response whatsoever. So I don't know what... I, I'm thinking about resending it. Se- send it to us- Well, yeah, um-... so we can, we can at least read it. Yeah.
• 17:10
Maybe we'll, maybe we'll put it on the website and get a groundswell of our hundreds of site viewers per month might just, you know- Swarm... swarm them. Legion. Swarm. Legion. Rise, Legion, and swarm. Yeah.
• 17:25
I, I can- [laughs] I can do that. Uh, sh- shoot me a, shoot me a good email to send it to, and I'll, I'll do that. But I mean, you know, it, it- Yes...
• 17:35
I, I mean, y- when, when you read the email, you're gonna, you're gonna see that it took me a very long time to type that on a phone, you know? Oh, understood. I really... I, I put my, I put my mind...
• 17:48
It's not, like, a couple of sentences. I'm, I, like, told the whole story and literally, like, poured my little heart out, and I got no response, which was really heartbreaking.
• 18:02
Hey, does, does anybody here, including Big Sexy, know what Thor's hammer's name is? Mjölnir. Mjölnir. Did you see... You saw Thor's hammer last week- Right... didn't you? Mm-hmm. Mjölnir. I didn't know.
• 18:15
So Big Sexy, you know our buddy Dave. DaveLunz.com Dot com. DFL, Dave fucking Lunz. Oh, I, is, is he there? No. No.
• 18:24
But he, but his, but the hammer he made for me in his- But his hammer is- Is a welding instructor now- Oh, okay... and his students made this hammer. I'm gonna show it. Yeah. So if you're gonna watch the...
• 18:33
If you watch this on the YouTubes- You'll see it... you'll see it. Ah. Uh, but it's, but it's badass. This, here, this thing weighs 20 pounds to the- [singing] Dun, dun, dun, dun... I mean- Ouch... it's 20 pounds.
• 18:44
[singing] Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. Dun. [sings] Yee-haw. That's the- Ye of Thor's hammer... check this thing out. I don't wanna drop it on the computer. It's- And my back just went out- Yeah... 'cause I, I, oh. Jesus H.
• 18:55
Christ. [laughs] So they layered, so they to- y- that's how he taught the guys to weld. This is a weld- So they layered- It's a welding exercise- Nice. [laughs]... right there. That's cool.
• 19:02
And then Dave added this, and then left that for me to cut, cut my hand up on right there. [laughs] Yeah, right. Sounds like Dave. All right. You probably shouldn't- But it, it's-... handle that without leather gloves.
• 19:11
It's dead nuts on 20 pounds. Is it? Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I want to smash something with it. I might go all Gallagher on a- Oh, yeah... a watermelon or- Watermelo- watermelon... cantaloupe or something.
• 19:23
But anyway, check it out, Big Sexy, on the video. [laughs] It's, it's... I mean, I can barely hold it up with my... Oh. Whoa. I'm impressed. Yeah. [laughs] With your, uh, stamina, good sir.
• 19:35
[laughs] I got a, I got a, I got a shout out, I got a shout out to the Holtz brothers, Michael and Tim, and Dave. Dave, Dave has, uh, has donated, uh, to the cause.
• 19:47
Kept my phone rocking a couple times when it was, was getting a little sketchy, and, and, uh, man, what a nice... Whoa, what a, what a nice fella. Yeah, I saw that Tim Holtz had, uh- But yeah... had helped you out too.
• 19:59
That was awesome. Oh, my God. Unbelievable. I, I, I don't... If it wasn't for Tim, Tim and Michael, I don't know if I would've made it. All right, man. Hey, do you wanna- So, um, you want me?
• 20:10
Do you wanna, uh, do you wanna hang out for a little bit? We actually have another caller, believe it or not. Yeah. Well, I'll, I'll, I'll hang out. Um, you know, if you l- do your thing. I'll, I'll listen in.
• 20:23
Uh, cue me in if you want me to talk or whatever. Right on. All right, man. We'll talk to you soon. I'm here? Just keep- No, I... You want me in here or not? Keep listening, listening, listening. Keep on listening.
• 20:35
[laughs] Listening, listening. [laughs] Well, [laughs] it's, it was the Dory theme from, from Finding Nemo. I don't know what- Keep on swimming, swimming... oh, man. Hey, welcome to the radio program, caller.
• 20:48
[laughs] Who do we have on the line? [laughs] I have no idea. Hey, it's Seely Dave, guys. Hey, Seely Dave. Seely Dave.
• 20:56
What's happening up in the, uh- I don't wanna bump Ex- Se- I don't wanna, I don't wanna bump Big Sexy. That's kind of a hard act to follow. [laughs] Well, we'll, we'll get back to him.
• 21:05
I just wanted to, uh, hear from you about your upcoming trip, and maybe just a quick update what's going on up in s- in the Northwoods there. Sure. Yeah, yeah.
• 21:15
Well, I just have a rare glimpse of the sun and blue sky, uh, for a handful of hours this afternoon, so I'm sitting by the fire listening to Cool and the Gang and- Yeah. [laughs]...
• 21:26
having a beer and cowboys, cowboys chewing and blowing. But, um, but yeah, I'm coming to Milwaukee on Thursday.
• 21:35
Adventure Cycling Association is in town, in Milwaukee that day, and they're having a bike packing event- Hmm... at the Wheel & Sprocket Bay, in Bay View in the evening.
• 21:48
I think like 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM or something like that. Um, check out Wheel & Sprocket's Facebook page or something like that, or web- website for that. But I, I'm pretty sure it's, like, 5:00 PM to 7:00-ish.
• 22:02
And there's a variety of... Z- It's a, it's a Adventure Cycling Association thing. I think Noel Kegel is still on the board of Adventure Cycling, but, um- Hmm... they asked me to come down.
• 22:15
You should, uh, congratulate- So when I come down I'm gonna bring my bike packing gear library.
• 22:19
I'm going to, I think I'm gonna bring my Omnium, no cowboy, but I'm gonna bring my dog packing rig, and also a bunch of stuff about, you know, bike packing up here, as well as, I'm, I stopped at some of the local chambers, Hayward and Cable, and brought some of their, I'm gonna bring some of their visitors guides down too.
• 22:39
So Adventure- And then if anybody wants- So just Adventure Cycling- Yeah, go ahead. Sorry...
• 22:44
is, the Adventure Cycling Association a little more, like, road-oriented versus bike packing, or have they gotten into the, have they drank the Kool-Aid yet? You know, they were the first... Yeah, yeah.
• 22:54
They were the first sort of, like, touring, nationwide touring organization.
• 23:00
And, and they built their organization, it's a non-profit, they built their organization around providing routes and maps and, and guides for people who wanted to go kind of on longer distance tours, um, across the US.
• 23:15
They still maintain a whole bunch of those routes.
• 23:19
However, relative to bike packing, I believe they were the first ones to map the, um, not the race, but the, but just the route version for sort of, like, touring use of the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. Hmm.
• 23:35
I think Adventure Cycling had that map first. It w- it was, like, a race first before then, but I believe they, they, they mapped the route. Um- Oh, that's, that's cool... down from, like, Banff, Banff to Mexico.
• 23:50
And I think you can still get that route, those route maps from them.
• 23:53
And they've got really good GIS people on their staff who produce these really very high quality, um, handheld as well as digital, um, maps for touring.
• 24:06
But, um, but they're getting into bike packing more as that's become more popular. And
• 24:12
I s- like I said, I think Noel is on their board, and he's gonna ha- I think he's hosting something at Wheel & Sprocket, and they asked me to come down, so I'm gonna come down with sort of my-...
• 24:23
bikepacking, uh, lending library so people can see what that's about. Um, like I said, some brochures.
• 24:30
I'll have my computer to talk about routes if any of you want to ask a question about routes, and, so this is something I'm kind of excited about, I've been, um, mapping, mapping the locations, POIs, for waterfalls in the U- Upper Peninsula.
• 24:47
Oh, cool. Oh, right on. And between, I've been, I've been looking at, on various websites, as well as I've got some really good waterfall guidebooks that have, like, the lat-long locations.
• 24:59
So I've been, like, copying and pasting lat-long locations into a Ride with GPS map, and, and just plotting all these points with the goal of creating kind of like a base map.
• 25:12
And I'll probably create a couple of routes, but the idea is like, hey, here's a base map. You can basically just turn on, like, open street map cycling route, which shows gravel roads versus- Cool...
• 25:26
regular roads, and you could just go ride wherever you want, make your own adventure to all these waterfalls. Sit there. I think there are over 300 waterfalls just in the UP. Wow, yeah. Cool.
• 25:38
I've probably got 150 of them mapped right now. That's a lot of waterfalls. Yeah, I, I knocked a couple out, so- And I'm adding campsites... wait, wait, you- you got 150 mapped already. There's 300.
• 25:48
You'll be finished next week? [laughs] No, I- I've, you remember I've had a hernia, so I've had like a month where [laughs] I've been, like, going stir crazy- No, Grand- Grandfather's hyena gets aggravated...
• 26:01
trying to come up with stuff to do. We should also, uh, when you, when you do see Noel, congratulate him on selling his house in less than 24 hours in River West. [laughs] He's an expat from River West now. Oh, did he?
• 26:11
I ran into him at swim class for our kids. Oh. And yeah, he's... I'm like, you know, I- Oh, I didn't know he sold his house on, his house on Humboldt, right? His house on Humboldt, yep, yep. Yeah.
• 26:21
Very crazy high prices on Humboldt these days. Yeah, there are. He did great. Yeah. He did great. I bet. As he should. He's a good guy. Being that close to the Gig- And actually-... and you say, man- Look-...
• 26:31
oh my God, how can you be that close to the Gig? Seeing... I saw the inside of the pictures, the inside of the house as I'm clicking through the pictures, and it dawned on me that it was Noel's.
• 26:39
[laughs] and I'm like, "Oh my God, this is really a beautiful home." He, it- it is seriously- Oh, yeah... a tr- a very traditional beautiful home. He, and he, the work he did on it- Yeah, I've been in it...
• 26:50
yeah, is great. Um, he did, he actually did a lot of remodeling. Yeah, he did. Yeah, he did. Um, so it's a traditional, but he did a lot of work to it.
• 26:59
And I was in, I'm surprised, Tony, you've not been in it, because it's always been kind of a party spot on the River West 24 route. Um- Yeah, but I'm, I'm racing, man. He's- I'm racing. I'm in it to win it.
• 27:08
[laughs] We gotta, we gotta little strategizing to do if that's- We're always gonna have somebody on the course, man... if that's the case. Always someone on the course. I'm not, dude. Always someone on the course.
• 27:17
It's, it's the very first all electric team. I, I like that- Oh, God. Oh, God. [laughs] I like the idea of the- I'm out, I'm out, I'm out...
• 27:25
we're probably not, but, um, I do like their sign that they usually put up asking for like, what's your poll as you do laps. Oh, yeah. I think it's just great.
• 27:34
Like, you know, pepperoni or, you know, sardines or, you know, stuff like that as you roll by. It's just, I, they've always been- Right...
• 27:41
I, whoever moves in there better realize that they are accepting the responsibility- [laughs]... to keep that tradition alive. Right. [laughs] But it's just market research for their, their company.
• 27:51
Well, Frankie's on the- Yeah. Neighborhood shaming, [laughs] slightly. Slightly. Frankie just moved to Pierce Street.
• 27:57
He's right around the corner from Art Bar, um, one block north, half a block north of Art Bar on Pierce, like 1900 block or something like that.
• 28:06
How clo- and she's doing a team this year, but how close is that, is that to the route? You know? Uh, one block. Yeah, a block off. Yeah. Yeah, or in the- But, you know-... yeah, in the center of it...
• 28:17
it's your own route anyway. There isn't an official route. You, there's only official checkpoints. She- Is there- Is she on the corner? Through the checkpoints, you would be in the pit.
• 28:25
She's, no, she's around, she's mid-block on Pierce. Okay. Mid-block on Pierce. Okay. Yeah, she's on the route technically. Is- 'Cause Pierce is technically a route... it's right in the zone for, for JK's
• 28:37
step-people's, isn't it? Is that on Pierce? Or no, that's Fratney maybe. Yeah, or Fratney maybe. Yeah, whatever. All right, Dave, so at, uh, at, uh, Wheel & Sprocket Bayview, and it's Thursday night?
• 28:50
Thur- this, this Thursday night, yeah. All right. This Thursday night. Well, sounds like somewhere we ought to go. Stop on down and say hi. Yeah. All right, man. Well, thank you for calling in.
• 28:57
Oh, and, uh, JK, on my- Yo... what, real quick, uh, I might stay in town Friday night. What shows are going on? I can Google this, but I'll just ask you. Los Straitjackets at Shank Hall, 30, or I'm sorry- Oh...
• 29:12
twen- $25 a head. That's a good sh- That's bad. I can't stand Peter Gast personally. That's a good show. Yeah, I hate Peter Gast too. But that's okay. We, we all have that. I know, I know, I know.
• 29:22
But once there's a show there that you wanna see- But it's the 30th year of Los Straitjackets, doing surf rock- That's, uh, you're right. That's, that's, I can only-... surf rock and mucho libre. Right. Yeah. No. Yeah.
• 29:33
Okay. All right. I, I, I'm 100% with you though. I might see you at the show. Yeah, he's a douche. [laughs] All right. We'll see you on Thursday. Over and out. Okay, thanks. I said it, Peter. All right, Dave.
• 29:43
[laughs] Bye. Yeah, he saw- Thanks, guys. Bye bye, Dave. [laughs] Bye. He saw who said it too. I don't care. [laughs] What? I don't care. [laughs] He's a douche.
• 29:52
Y'all motherfuckers think Jesus- He's a real nowhere man, living in his nowhere land called... Man, sitting in his nowhere land Whatever, whatever. Whatever.
• 30:01
I give him, if I see him in the world, I don't, I don't flip him off immediately. [laughs] But you think about it, don't you? No, I go, "Hey, how you doing?"
• 30:13
You know, something, and just wait for the cascade of- No response?... well, both, the other wave to- I, I'm still- It's right here. You are Dave. You are Dave... it takes, like, zero to zero.
• 30:22
I didn't, I didn't hear myself click off You're here, you're here, baby. Those guys are just talking over there. What- Yeah, we're live All right. Well, then let me tell you why I don't like Peter Gents.
• 30:30
I went to see, I think, Butthole Surfers- Ah, bless her heart... at Kenwood Uni- when he, when he, uh, was running the show. I h- was on the list plus one. I didn't know I was plus one, so I walked up to the thing.
• 30:46
He's standing there, and I'm like, "Hey, I'm, you know... I think I'm on the list." And I was, and he checked me off. He's like, "Who's your plus one?" I was like, "Oh, I didn't know I was plus one."
• 30:58
Like, I turn to my friend behind me. I'm like, "Hey, you're getting in for free." And he's like, "No, you're not."
• 31:03
And he wouldn't let that pers- What a dick He wasn't my plus, but his- Plus one, you can bring anybody to the wedding... he axed my plus one 'cause I didn't know about it. [sighs] That's just terrible.
• 31:12
And that's just indicative of- Ah... all of his UAB interactions. Peter, damn it, Peter. And they would've made more money- This one says-... 'cause there would've been one more person there. It's stupid.
• 31:20
All right, Dave. Well, he did the... My friend did pay, but all right. Okay. Ah. That's it. But yeah, 25... H- I- I know. I'm gonna, like... I, I might grudge fuck, uh, uh- Ooh, he's throwing that out.
• 31:31
Oh, that's a big term right there. Well- Oh, yeah. [laughs] 25 bucks to go see Little Stevie Ray Vaughan on their 30-year anniversary. Yeah, maybe. It's not a bad deal. Not a bad deal. Yeah, that sounds great.
• 31:42
I, I have, I, I also have, like, dog-sitting duties that I have to d- dance and do a little gymnastics with, so. All right, Dave, thanks again. It'll be heaven. Okay. Talk to you, talk to you Thursday. All right.
• 31:55
Probably. See ya. Okay, bye. See you at the show. All right. Dave Sobowski, baby. Oh, one thing I was gonna ask him about the gear library is, is it only pick-up up there, or would he, like, ship it to you
• 32:10
so you could check it out? He- I'm pretty sure it's mostly for up there, but whatever. All right, Big Sexy, you still with us? I'm with you. Hey. There he is. That was quite inter-...
• 32:20
That was, that was entertaining, dude. Did you get to... Did, when you, when you- Best, best of the show I've ever listened to. What, when you're- [laughs]
• 32:29
When you're listening on the phone, can you hear everything okay, or is it garbled and shitty? Yes. [laughs] It, it, it's a little bit garbled, but I can hear, I can hear everybody talking.
• 32:40
I can hear, I can hear what you're saying. I'm like, "All right, uh"- Everything's garbled and brilliant... "I was right. He's gonna go to a show or two." Yeah.
• 32:46
Yeah, we've, we've used this same s- I can, I can do garbled. Yeah. [laughs] But I'll listen to it later, and it'll be like, oh, wow, that's actually clear. Yeah. And I'm like, "No shit."
• 32:56
Well, we've, we've been using this- I suddenly, it was like eating fucking-... same-... marbles while I was talking... system. Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba. Bar. Three, two, one.
• 33:04
For, we've been using the same- Well, it, it's, it's much more crowded... the same s- the call-in system we've been using, we've been using for, like, 10 years, and I'm always like- Yeah... I've never been on...
• 33:13
Well, maybe I have been on the call-in end, but not very often. Like, when I was in Vegas, I might have called into the show. Why? But probably not, because nobody was running the show.
• 33:21
But I called in from Seville, Spain. [laughs] Oh, yeah. [laughs] I, I, I feel like, I feel like an asshole. I feel like an asshole for not even recording a message for your anniversary. I'm so sorry I missed it.
• 33:35
I w- I was busy. Hey, it's not too late. Just call the call-in number, 717- 727 2453. That spells bike. Yes. That- You can call in anytime you want and leave a message... that's the, that's the number I just called.
• 33:48
If it's not a stupid message- Is it? [laughs]... or an inane message or whatever, we'll use it in the show even if you can't make it. It's me. It's me. Of course it's gonna be a stupid message. [laughs] Oh, boy.
• 34:04
Oh, yeah. But, um, I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be in Detroit, uh, in mid-June. Detroit. And then- Rock City... and so you know what that means. Rock City. No. You, you're a Kiss fan? You know what that means? Do tell.
• 34:20
No, I'm, I'm gonna be in Detroit mid-June, so I'm probably gonna be, uh, taking the boat across the lake, uh, right around the 24th. That would be- Ha, ha, ha, ha. Did you hear today about...
• 34:34
Well, it doesn't matter if you're only doing the One Direction, but the- One Direction? One Direction. [laughs] Is that where Marky Mark came from, or- I think so. Yeah. Oh, no... Spinny Spin or whatever? Anyway- No...
• 34:45
um, the, uh- No, um, but I'm pretty sure I'm the illegitimate father of one of those kids. Yeah. You're as good-looking as most of them.
• 34:52
Uh, anyway, so, uh, probably doesn't help you much, but you might have not been on the show when we said that for $100 donation to Dream Bikes- Yes...
• 35:03
you can get a round-trip ticket on the Lake Express, which is worth $180. So it's almost 50% off. Right. Da, da. And c- and if you have to go back that way, whatever, whatever. Yeah. But, uh, yeah, I don't know.
• 35:17
They'll gi- they'll give you the ticket- I don't-... and the money will go to the cool place.
• 35:20
Keep us posted on the dates, 'cause we're going, we're going up north to the Badger ferry, and we're gonna do that in late June, early July.
• 35:28
But it wouldn't be out of the question to come over on the big old, uh, Lake Express and escort Big Sexy back into Milwaukee. That'd, that'd be great. Um, I, um- Now that I know- Well, I still got my little-...
• 35:41
at what speed I have to deal with. Yes. [laughs] Oh, no, no. Um, but, but- No, we just was-... there, there's something slow. Hey, Izzy. Izzy is- Izzy goes slow, baby. Oh, ho, ho, ho, ho.
• 35:53
[laughs] Is, is Izzy, is Izzy, like, the same tempo as, as Heather, or is it because it's six years zesty? Absolutely. [laughs] All right, brother.
• 36:03
Well, you're- It's the same bike and a ugly, it's the same bike and a ugly color. [laughs] It looked like it had some hydroformed tubes, in case you wanna look that up.
• 36:12
It's a real fancy thing that says it's probably a stronger bike. I don't know. [laughs] Hopefully the wheels are better made. The basket's smaller and different. I don't like it.
• 36:21
I wanna call Schwinn tomorrow and see if I can get a different basket sent to me, because- It's just that I don't know if this is gonna work. You know, you, you could get an inex- Cosmetology, that's cosmetics...
• 36:31
how about an inexpensive walled basket to put on the front, and you could put your consumables- In the front...
• 36:37
right in front of you, so you didn't even have to stop to get that, that bagel or the, uh, whatever else fuels you on your ride. Jagermeister. I... Is he sponsored by Jagermeister still? He should be.
• 36:49
Hey, I got a bar for you to go to. I, I am, I am, I am sponsored by Jagermeister, whether they like it or not. Yeah. Uh- Well, they just got a shot ski in- Um-... which is the stupidest thing I've ever seen, but ugh.
• 37:00
Ugh. Ugh. [laughs] That was, that was- Yeah, I don't know. I, I don't know about the basket.
• 37:04
I, I mean, I'm gonna get on the horn with Schwinn tomorrow and see about, and see about a basket exchange, because I don't like this basket. Good chance.
• 37:12
I hope you speak Indian or, uh, you know, Filipino or some other language, 'cause- India, actually. Yes... probably India, I would imagine. O- okay. O- okay, Sven- They speak a lot of different languages...
• 37:21
Sven, I'm, I'm, I'm very, I'm, I'm gonna call you out, dude. I'm gonna call you out.
• 37:25
Every single time I've ever dealt with Schwinn customer service, it has been an American, and they have been wonderful to me every single time.
• 37:36
I don't care if they ignore, ignore my email, my heartfelt email, they have, M- Schwinn has been taking care of me for five years. Right on, man. And they're great.
• 37:47
Well, look, Schwinn- Don't forget to tell, I'll, I'll send you a, I'll send you an email. I, I, I, I don't- Just send us hell...
• 37:50
I don't mean, I don't mean to stomp on you like that, buddy, but I'll tell you what, Schwinn has been awesome. So, yeah. Well, I didn't... Yeah, right on. I'm glad they take care of you, because who else will?
• 38:02
Somebody has to. [laughs] All right, we're gonna wrap this sucker up. See you guys. Thanks, thanks for calling in. You're welcome to call in anytime. Keep us appraised of your route- All right. Well, um, like I said-...
• 38:13
and, and more importantly, timing... like I said, I'm, I'm looking at Milwaukee mid-July, maybe late July. I'll, I'll, I can, I can stretch it out if I have to. I go up to Frankenmuth, Michigan, and hang out for a while.
• 38:24
Works for us, but, uh, you know the dates. What, um- What are the dates this year, Tony? 26th and 27th. 26th and 27th. Happy birthday, Mom. Last Friday and Saturday.
• 38:32
So here's something interesting about the 24 this year, is that it's on a different weekend than Brady Street Festival, because the stupid Harley... I mean, I'm sorry. What? Not Harley riders. No, they're not stupid.
• 38:45
But what is stupid is- Yes... this constant every single year thing, which will be the weekend before the River West 24,
• 38:54
and because they're in close proximity, they decided to, well, bump that back a week, 'cause the 24 is so important. I'm going with that thought. Thanks. Well- Well, the 24 ain't gonna move...
• 39:07
I'll tell you what, man, it was so, it was so good to talk to you guys. If you could, uh, put my, uh, put my Venmo, uh, link in there, it'd be great. The, any donations are wonderfully appreciated. Right on.
• 39:20
Um, I'm pretty much starting out with less, I'm starting out with less than I did on Heather in July 2019, so, um, and it, it, I'll, I'm gonna make it, no problem, but anything always helps. And, and it's no big whoop.
• 39:36
I, I'm, I'm gonna make it, and I'll be in contact. We'll, we'll talk to you maybe in a week or two, and I'll, I'll call you up and see what y'all are up to. Yeah, once you're on the road- Sounds good, man...
• 39:45
give us an update. What's her name, Annalisa? Analise? Izzy. Isabelle. Izzy. Izzy. Oh. Izzy, Isabella, but Izzy. Yeah. All right. Later on, dude. We'll see how it goes. Hey, look. Bye. Peace. All right, take it easy now.
• 40:00
That was Big Sexy, for the first time- Yep... in a good long time. For, for correction right before we go off the air. [laughs] Live. Izzy/Isabella is my daughter's name, not my mother's or my niece's. There. Oh.
• 40:16
I named, I named my kid Isabella 'cause everyone else took Isabelle. [laughs] There you go. So thanks for cl- when he said at the end, I'm like, "Ooh- It's on. Yeah [laughs]... I should probably tell you." Clarify.
• 40:25
By the way- Hey, you know how many times, uh... I think Big Sexy's the one that the, the caller, he's called in the most, 72 times this, this doctor. Wow, 72 times. He needs to shoot for 100. 100.
• 40:37
We could have a Big Sexy 100 anniversary show. 100. [laughs] You gotta follow him on the road. It's like, "Oh, shit." Oh, do you have to bring- "I'm at, I'm at this little shit place in fucking Pahrump, Utah."
• 40:51
Does he have to, do we have to ride, or can we just walk along with him? [laughs] Private bastard. You gotta find him. He's like a geocache. Oh, I see him. He's still listening. How you doing? You're a geocache.
• 41:03
We're giving you shit, dude. All right. Well, thank you very much for spending another whatever, whatever with us, and, uh, we'll be back next week.
• 41:15
  [upbeat rock music]
