- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Homework as we wrap up our
- 0:13Speaker 1: recent foray into PBS masterpiece. I'm Megan and I'm a
- 0:16Speaker 1: longtime Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark cater.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Today we're discussing The Count of Monte Cristo Episode eight.
- 0:24Speaker 1: The last two which originally aired on PBS on Sunday,
- 0:28Speaker 1: May tenth, twenty twenty six, and is currently available to
- 0:30Speaker 1: stream on PBS dot Org and the PBS App. Will
- 0:34Speaker 1: helpe you able to stick around for our coverage of
- 0:36Speaker 1: Hallmark content as we continue to review the newest movies
- 0:38Speaker 1: in series like The Way Home and Paris is always
- 0:41Speaker 1: a good idea coming soon to Hallmark. Over here on
- 0:44Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark. You can keep up with our schedule
- 0:47Speaker 1: of reviews by following us on Instagram where we are
- 0:50Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark. I have a couple of emails to read, hey.
- 0:57Speaker 1: First of all, Paula emailed about the Count of Monte
- 0:59Speaker 1: Cristo and says, I'd like to give an opinion on
- 1:01Speaker 1: Edmund that kind of disagrees with you. First, of course,
- 1:05Speaker 1: Edmund is a changed man, but I believe he changed
- 1:07Speaker 1: for the better. His fixation on revenge hasn't stopped him
- 1:11Speaker 1: from seeing the good in people. He made good on
- 1:14Speaker 1: anyone he hurt, and we don't yet know what will
- 1:16Speaker 1: happen to the people affected by his revenge. He still
- 1:19Speaker 1: loves Mercedes and she loves him, but they will not
- 1:22Speaker 1: be together again. That I believe is his penance for
- 1:25Speaker 1: that he had to do to get revenge. I think
- 1:27Speaker 1: he leaves France and finds a place where he can
- 1:30Speaker 1: be at ease, free from everything that has haunted him
- 1:32Speaker 1: all these years. Caderousse was never in danger from Edmund.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Edmund doesn't believe in killing. Remember he spent years with
- 1:38Speaker 1: Abby Faria, and he said as much at the execution
- 1:40Speaker 1: he watched in Rome. As to Fernand his whole involvement
- 1:43Speaker 1: in getting Dantes out of the way was because of
- 1:45Speaker 1: his obsession with Mercedes. Also, remember the place of women
- 1:48Speaker 1: in the nineteenth century. How much agency did Mercedes or
- 1:51Speaker 1: any woman in this story have? From Emily In the
- 1:55Speaker 1: different take, she just sents some additional PBS recommendations. Oh okay,
- 2:00Speaker 1: she says, the Royal Flying Doctor's Service RFDS. She loved
- 2:03Speaker 1: this one so much she started it after a Melbourne
- 2:06Speaker 1: match on Hallmark. A Melboyne match, excuse me, and wanted
- 2:10Speaker 1: something Australian. Oh. This is about a doctor from the
- 2:13Speaker 1: UK who comes to join the RFDS and the medical
- 2:16Speaker 1: and personal stories around the team there. The service gets
- 2:19Speaker 1: to places in the Australian outback that might not get support.
- 2:23Speaker 1: As far as I can tell, the medical is accurate.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I looked up a lot of things because I was
- 2:26Speaker 1: so interested, but really love the characters and their relationships.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I won't give you too much on that, but recommend
- 2:31Speaker 1: at least checking it out to see if it catches you.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Emily also recommends Good Karma Hospital. I watched this last
- 2:37Speaker 1: year and like the characters. Another doctor traveling to a
- 2:40Speaker 1: different locale. This one is in India. I'd rank RFDS
- 2:44Speaker 1: ahead personally, but did enjoy this one. These are both
- 2:47Speaker 1: PBS shows. Interesting. Yeah, I'm going to tell you I
- 2:52Speaker 1: am really impressed with the content on PBS and will
- 2:58Speaker 1: continue to seek out. I mean, I don't know if
- 3:01Speaker 1: we're going to review anymore PBS or what our plan is,
- 3:05Speaker 1: but I'm pretty impressed. Well. I was talking to my
- 3:09Speaker 1: mom last week and I said, oh, are you watching
- 3:11Speaker 1: The Count of Money Cristo? And she said yeah, I
- 3:12Speaker 1: thought it was great and I said, what about the
- 3:14Speaker 1: Foresights And she said yes, and she goes they had
- 3:18Speaker 1: also seen The Foresight Saga, which is also a PBS
- 3:21Speaker 1: show from years ago. It's streaming on Netflix right now,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and I watched part of the first episode and it
- 3:28Speaker 1: didn't grab me, just because I'm like, that's not Joe,
- 3:32Speaker 1: that's not Solmes, but Solmes Damian Lewis, who you will
- 3:37Speaker 1: recognize from Homeland. Oh yeah, Rupert Graves plays young Joe. Anyway,
- 3:43Speaker 1: I was like, these aren't the right people. I think
- 3:45Speaker 1: I need a little more distance from my Foresights to
- 3:47Speaker 1: watch the Foresight Saga. But the storytelling is a little
- 3:49Speaker 1: bit different. I absolutely buy Damian Lewis as like a
- 3:53Speaker 1: possessed Yes, yeah, I bet he plays that pretty well. Yeah,
- 3:57Speaker 1: that's what she was saying, that he was excellent in it.
- 3:59Speaker 1: So that's another option right there. Cool, So why don't
- 4:02Speaker 1: we get into the count of money? Cristo with a synopsis.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Edmund exposes Hallowey's poisoning plot. Midwife tests affies again. It
- 4:11Speaker 1: just says it. Midwife testifies against father at Gaston's murder trial.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Edmund reunites with Mercedes in Marseille, questioning his ability to
- 4:21Speaker 1: love again. Hey, Wendy, what is your first impression of
- 4:25Speaker 1: the season finale with Counta Mine Cysto. This finale had
- 4:27Speaker 1: everything poison, prison, humiliation, and somehow a hallmark ending. My
- 4:35Speaker 1: reversion imprision is, well, looks like I was wrong? Kind
- 4:37Speaker 1: of Were you shocked at the ending? Well, you know
- 4:41Speaker 1: that's not how the book ends. I know, I had
- 4:43Speaker 1: to google. I googled like three episodes ago how does
- 4:46Speaker 1: this end? So I've been holding on to it like
- 4:49Speaker 1: waiting to see, like, where is this going to go?
- 4:51Speaker 1: Where's this going to go? Uh? If a spoiler if
- 4:55Speaker 1: you don't want to hear how the actual book ends,
- 4:57Speaker 1: tap tap tap through as I'm gonna mention it right here. Huh.
- 5:01Speaker 1: He's supposed to be with Haiti, Yes, So why didn't
- 5:05Speaker 1: they do it that way? Well, my guess is they
- 5:08Speaker 1: didn't have enough time to develop the character of Haiti
- 5:11Speaker 1: to make her someone that it would make sense for
- 5:13Speaker 1: Edward to be Edmund to be with romantically. Right, That's
- 5:16Speaker 1: my only guess. Apparently all the different adaptations have a
- 5:19Speaker 1: different ending. We'll get into our thoughts on this one.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I think this was appropriate for this, but I find
- 5:25Speaker 1: it very interesting that they take such a different tact
- 5:28Speaker 1: from the writer's ending. It's a completely different choice. Agree,
- 5:35Speaker 1: And I gotta tell you I was police because that's
- 5:38Speaker 1: what I was hoping for. Yeah, it's a nice bow
- 5:41Speaker 1: on the series to have them together, for sure. Yes.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I was watching this on Mother's Day and I was
- 5:48Speaker 1: watching it alone, and my family decided they wanted to
- 5:50Speaker 1: come and hang out with me because it was mother Day.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And I was like, sh I need everybody to be quiet.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I know. My husband kept coming in, he is like,
- 5:58Speaker 1: do you need anything. I'm like, I need you do
- 6:00Speaker 1: shut Villefort his blight. All right, let's talk about what
- 6:08Speaker 1: we liked. All right, Well, let's talk about Villefort. Okay,
- 6:14Speaker 1: I have a hard time in the meeting, but I
- 6:16Speaker 1: actually felt a little bit of empathy for him. Oh
- 6:18Speaker 1: me too, Okay, I didn't. I didn't think we'd actually
- 6:21Speaker 1: get there because for Danglars and for I didn't even care.
- 6:25Speaker 1: I didn't care about there. They didn't kill a child, right,
- 6:29Speaker 1: So there were two scenes when he comes upon and
- 6:36Speaker 1: sees his wife and now his young boy dead poisoned
- 6:42Speaker 1: by I mean Eloise, Heloise whatever her name is, like,
- 6:46Speaker 1: she obviously poisoned both of them, herself and the kid, right, Okay,
- 6:50Speaker 1: that's my question. Oh, I think yes, But I also
- 6:54Speaker 1: think there's room for the boy to have like, oh,
- 6:57Speaker 1: across the drink. Oh, and maybe she was like because
- 7:02Speaker 1: she loved him. Yeah, so, but she was bad. Yeah,
- 7:07Speaker 1: it's a bad human. She'd been willing to do anything
- 7:10Speaker 1: for money, so including sending her stepdaughter to prison for
- 7:14Speaker 1: the rest of her life. So I can't decide. Again,
- 7:18Speaker 1: this is one of those things. Is this how it
- 7:19Speaker 1: happens in the book? I don't know? And do we
- 7:21Speaker 1: get more information about her motivation in the book. But
- 7:25Speaker 1: I can't decide if I believe that she poisoned him
- 7:28Speaker 1: or what came first, a chicken or the egg? Yeah
- 7:31Speaker 1: got you? But yes, I felt bad for Villefort in
- 7:34Speaker 1: that moment when he is overcome. Yes, and then I'm
- 7:41Speaker 1: gonna get to it. But Edmund coming in and seeing
- 7:44Speaker 1: that scene too, I think is poignant. I'll talk about
- 7:48Speaker 1: it when we get to Edmund. But I felt bad
- 7:50Speaker 1: for him here, and then when he's been exposed in
- 7:56Speaker 1: parliament for his bad doings, I didn't feel bad for
- 8:02Speaker 1: him here, but I liked that he took accountability and
- 8:05Speaker 1: says no one is above the law, including me, because
- 8:08Speaker 1: that's what he has been telling his wife this whole
- 8:10Speaker 1: time too. You know, there was like some softening here,
- 8:14Speaker 1: like he wasn't this cartoon villain to me anymore. He
- 8:19Speaker 1: did bad things and he was watching his life like
- 8:22Speaker 1: collapse around him. And I feel a little sad for him,
- 8:25Speaker 1: sure so, But I think that's like the complexity of
- 8:29Speaker 1: it all is what made the finale so good and
- 8:32Speaker 1: made me as if you were a little conflicted about
- 8:35Speaker 1: all the revenge stuff. Yeah, and I think the Villafort
- 8:38Speaker 1: story contrasts with Don Glars, because you're right, I didn't
- 8:42Speaker 1: feel Don Glars is the one I feel least badly about.
- 8:47Speaker 1: He was bad in many ways. He was willing to
- 8:53Speaker 1: sell his daughter's happiness to the highest bidder because it
- 8:56Speaker 1: would benefit him. And when he ends up in prison
- 9:00Speaker 1: and reads that letter from edmunds so petty, I freaking
- 9:05Speaker 1: loved it. Oh, I loved I mean it looks just
- 9:08Speaker 1: like it's different prison, but it looks just like or
- 9:10Speaker 1: Edmund held and he throws it out the window. I
- 9:14Speaker 1: just think, yeah, you deserve this, Like you broke the law.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Now you're going to go to prison for it. Edmund
- 9:19Speaker 1: didn't even have to engineer that. No, I know God
- 9:22Speaker 1: him caught. Yeah, yeah, and I had that one. I
- 9:26Speaker 1: was like, yeah, this is good. Yeah, I agree with you.
- 9:29Speaker 1: And it was funny too because when Dunglaar reads that
- 9:33Speaker 1: letter and he's like bastard and he's like screaming, and
- 9:35Speaker 1: I was like, bro, this is on you, this is
- 9:38Speaker 1: on you. Here, Bill doesn't see part in it at all. Yeah,
- 9:43Speaker 1: I want to talk about Edmund. Okay, this is what
- 9:47Speaker 1: elevated the finale for me because up until this point,
- 9:51Speaker 1: we've seen Edman be believe. He operates like he believes,
- 9:56Speaker 1: you know, everything is deserved, like he's out for justice, right,
- 10:00Speaker 1: and then he comes upon seeing Villefort over Villefort's dead child.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I can't remember the child's name, Edward, isn't it that
- 10:09Speaker 1: sounds right? This is where finally, because Edmund goes, God
- 10:15Speaker 1: help me, and he gives me. Yeah, he he realized
- 10:19Speaker 1: what has has happened. He I think he sees his
- 10:22Speaker 1: poison on the ground, whether or not, yes, but he
- 10:25Speaker 1: knows what has happened, right, And I was like, oh,
- 10:28Speaker 1: finally Edmund looks horrified at what this has all become,
- 10:34Speaker 1: like this is all part of his doing And I
- 10:36Speaker 1: was like, because, honestly, the last episode, in this one too,
- 10:41Speaker 1: I was starting to feel like the dick towards Edmund,
- 10:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna talk about it and my wishes. But here
- 10:46Speaker 1: I was like, okay, finally, like I can't help but
- 10:50Speaker 1: go back to what like Haiti had told him in
- 10:52Speaker 1: like last episode of like at what cost? At what costs?
- 10:55Speaker 1: Are you doing all this? And now he's like, oh, damn,
- 10:59Speaker 1: I inadvertently killed a child. Does it make him equally
- 11:03Speaker 1: as bad as Villefort? And that's nan And I don't
- 11:10Speaker 1: know where I land on that. I don't know where
- 11:12Speaker 1: I land on that. I think it's I don't think
- 11:14Speaker 1: it makes him as bad as Villefort buried a child alive. Yeah,
- 11:20Speaker 1: his intent was to kill that baby. Y, it's terrible,
- 11:22Speaker 1: you know, Edmund never had any intent for the children
- 11:25Speaker 1: to be harmed. It was and I or Valentine or
- 11:29Speaker 1: so and so or so. Yeah. Now Valentine at least
- 11:32Speaker 1: has a happy ending, but at least when he sees
- 11:35Speaker 1: that he has enough of a realization. None of these
- 11:38Speaker 1: other men get to that point. Maybe Villefort now, but
- 11:43Speaker 1: his life has been ruined. I mean, it took all
- 11:45Speaker 1: of this right, he even Villefort even had a little
- 11:48Speaker 1: bit of a slow start to get Valentine out of Jude. Yeah,
- 11:54Speaker 1: exactly like it took him. I did, like how he
- 11:58Speaker 1: coldly goes to Hallowe's and he was like, I note
- 12:01Speaker 1: what you did, Yeah, and presents her with the evidence.
- 12:05Speaker 1: But I thought he'd actually suspected her in the last episode,
- 12:09Speaker 1: because do you remember him like looking through drawers and stuff? Yes,
- 12:13Speaker 1: I do, And I thought, is that was that an
- 12:15Speaker 1: editing mistake? Because I thought he assumed it was her
- 12:20Speaker 1: or suspected it was her in the last episode. But
- 12:22Speaker 1: then this episode he seemed genuinely like surprised when Edmund
- 12:27Speaker 1: comes to him and is like, oh your wife, Like
- 12:30Speaker 1: there's a witness to your wife going into my laboratory.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Yeah he did. Maybe he seem surprised about the evidence. Yeah,
- 12:40Speaker 1: well part of me I was like, oh, well, am
- 12:41Speaker 1: I mistaken? Was he looking through Valentine's stuff? Yeah? Last week?
- 12:45Speaker 1: I think both times, so I always had hidden it
- 12:49Speaker 1: because oh that's why read is it? Hell? Yeah, Gotteine's room,
- 12:53Speaker 1: so it could be found there, got it? Yes, because
- 12:56Speaker 1: that room is not Hallowi's. That's a small room. You're right,
- 13:00Speaker 1: you're right. After Edmund leaves Villefort's home, he has one
- 13:06Speaker 1: of his anxiety moments and then he tosses his drugs
- 13:08Speaker 1: from the coach, and that's one of those Edmond redemption
- 13:10Speaker 1: moments where he's like, no more of this, Uh huh,
- 13:12Speaker 1: we're gonna we're gonna rebuild our life. I agree with that,
- 13:16Speaker 1: but I just needed more information. I would have loved
- 13:21Speaker 1: some sort of internal dialogue or something of what made
- 13:27Speaker 1: him decide to like stop relying on whatever this drug
- 13:31Speaker 1: was that was helping him. I laughed because it was
- 13:34Speaker 1: a hallmark ending. Absolutely love. I just yeah, I kind
- 13:38Speaker 1: of went like, oh yeah when it ended. But I
- 13:43Speaker 1: am happy that him and Mercedes, Like is vague, Like
- 13:47Speaker 1: I think they're gonna be together? Yes? I think so too. Yes,
- 13:51Speaker 1: it's vague. You know. It's like the pull away back,
- 13:54Speaker 1: you know, shot, and they're like together and they're silhouette
- 13:57Speaker 1: or whatever. It is beautiful. It was beautifully done. But
- 14:01Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, here it is. I got the
- 14:03Speaker 1: ending I wanted. I'm curious if other people who have
- 14:06Speaker 1: read the book, who know seen other versions of it,
- 14:09Speaker 1: were disappointed in the ending and this one. I think
- 14:12Speaker 1: it's the right ending for this show. If you were
- 14:15Speaker 1: to have left and they show him writing up to
- 14:18Speaker 1: Haiti's home, I'd be like, what the heck? We don't
- 14:20Speaker 1: see a development of a relationship at all for them.
- 14:23Speaker 1: That would not be earned. They built the story where
- 14:25Speaker 1: he was very much still in love with her and
- 14:28Speaker 1: she was in love with him, And you're surprised by
- 14:30Speaker 1: that because you've been saying all for eight episodes like
- 14:34Speaker 1: you were kind of like, I it's a hard read.
- 14:36Speaker 1: I don't know if he's I'm mad at her, loved her,
- 14:40Speaker 1: but I thought he couldn't forgive her for moving on.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I thought it was the right choice for the story
- 14:48Speaker 1: they were telling season two? Can he forgive her? Right?
- 14:53Speaker 1: Did they set this up for a season two? I
- 14:55Speaker 1: know this was made a while ago, right last year,
- 14:58Speaker 1: but okay, right, hard for that season two? Yeah? I
- 15:02Speaker 1: want to see what they're life. And yes, we made
- 15:06Speaker 1: seasons of The Handmaid's Tale then the book covered, so yeah,
- 15:10Speaker 1: you know, all along we've been like, we know this
- 15:12Speaker 1: isn't one and done like mini series because like that's
- 15:14Speaker 1: where the book ends. But could we see their life
- 15:17Speaker 1: life after revenge? Life? The Count of Monte Cristo dot
- 15:23Speaker 1: life after Reubrange, I don't think it's that interesting in him,
- 15:26Speaker 1: and hellow he's him and Mercedes Lemon and Marseille. Yeah,
- 15:29Speaker 1: but then we got like Danglars and in jail for
- 15:32Speaker 1: the fifteen years, plotting for the next his revenge, Yakapo
- 15:37Speaker 1: going back and collecting it, Ollie, Yeah, what'd you think
- 15:40Speaker 1: about that? I actually liked. I liked the Yakapo Goodbye.
- 15:44Speaker 1: I thought it had a little bit of humor. Edmund's like,
- 15:47Speaker 1: you know, when the money stops coming, you'll know I'm dead,
- 15:49Speaker 1: and Yako's like, don't die too soon. I thought it
- 15:51Speaker 1: was sweet, and I thought I thought he did right
- 15:54Speaker 1: by them. I thought he did too. Anyway, I would
- 15:57Speaker 1: love a season two. Let's take of their break and
- 15:59Speaker 1: we'll come back to talk. Oh wishes? All right, Wendy,
- 16:10Speaker 1: what did you wish for? Well? Like I said at
- 16:12Speaker 1: one point, Edmond really gives me the ick. It's just destructive,
- 16:16Speaker 1: like what he's doing, and I'm like, how can I
- 16:21Speaker 1: continue to root for this man, who I do think
- 16:27Speaker 1: is justified having his life kind of destroyed, But like
- 16:31Speaker 1: he it's just such just ripple effect and innocent lives
- 16:35Speaker 1: are being lost. I think it helps to the end.
- 16:42Speaker 1: They're terrible. The reminder of the Villafort. It's unforgivable what
- 16:47Speaker 1: he did to the baby. And then Don glars just
- 16:50Speaker 1: like cheerfully, being like, you know, write me a check
- 16:54Speaker 1: for off my daughter, give me my money. It just
- 16:58Speaker 1: they're grows. I know, I know, I know, But I
- 17:02Speaker 1: got to mention I love Eugenie bouncing. Oh that was great. Yeah,
- 17:07Speaker 1: cuts her hair, she and Louise leave. Did you think
- 17:11Speaker 1: it was a little bit funny, Like obviously she took
- 17:13Speaker 1: the money from her mom that her mom had, but
- 17:16Speaker 1: they showed that quick little scene where she's like, look
- 17:19Speaker 1: at her money, like, you know, it was not needed,
- 17:24Speaker 1: but I did. I didn't enjoy that too. And the
- 17:27Speaker 1: count of Spottis is like maybe you guys it was
- 17:32Speaker 1: like all funny, like that was funny that it was funny.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I was like, oh, look at you. Yeah, there's some
- 17:37Speaker 1: letters go be in the opera. Yeah, I'm like, oh,
- 17:40Speaker 1: she gonna go like live as a man, so she
- 17:43Speaker 1: and maybe those three friends and live together. But they're yeah,
- 17:46Speaker 1: she and Louise are running off to Gayeah. Okay, back
- 17:48Speaker 1: to our wishes. Yeah. I liked it. I think I
- 17:50Speaker 1: already talked about most of my wishes, Like we talked
- 17:54Speaker 1: about the end the Hallmark Anddy and it was a
- 17:56Speaker 1: little hokey, but I like, I still liked it, and
- 17:58Speaker 1: I do wish we got more site into Edmund's internal
- 18:01Speaker 1: transformation and we already talked about that before. And when
- 18:05Speaker 1: he throws out the drugs like I need yeah, yeah,
- 18:07Speaker 1: I need something else there. I thought some of our
- 18:10Speaker 1: moments at the end were rushed. Yeah, most of our
- 18:15Speaker 1: moments at the end, quite frankly, were rushed. Donglars is
- 18:18Speaker 1: maybe the only one that I feel gets full coverage.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I even think like the helloase Edward Villefort ending is
- 18:25Speaker 1: a little bit like, I guess we don't need the
- 18:26Speaker 1: details of how it happened. We just know that this
- 18:29Speaker 1: is Villefort's punishment, and you know Edmund has shown up
- 18:34Speaker 1: to be like by the way it was me. Yeah,
- 18:36Speaker 1: and then he's like I'm getting this enough, don't I
- 18:39Speaker 1: don't need that moment Max and Valentine. It's such like
- 18:43Speaker 1: a quick, so fast Okay, I guess that he is
- 18:47Speaker 1: all I needed to know, but it's just like close
- 18:49Speaker 1: that loop goodbye. Yeah, I'd be happy now. I think
- 18:52Speaker 1: I had read too that he leaves a lot of
- 18:54Speaker 1: his fortune to them. Edmund, Oh in the book, that's nice. Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 1: that's nice because Villefor ain't gonna have nothing now right.
- 19:02Speaker 1: That's it. There's just some moments that I thought, Oh,
- 19:04Speaker 1: we're just real wrapping all this up. M check check check.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Do you think that's enough of a punishment that Villefort
- 19:10Speaker 1: receives Hallowise and Edwards have passed, Like, do you think
- 19:13Speaker 1: we need to see him go to trials? Yeah, we
- 19:16Speaker 1: don't really see like his we don't really see, right,
- 19:19Speaker 1: what's going to happen with guest On No, yeah, no,
- 19:22Speaker 1: And we don't really see what happens with Villefort, like
- 19:24Speaker 1: he's just living like alone now, we don't. The last
- 19:27Speaker 1: we see of him is he's holding his dead's up. Right.
- 19:31Speaker 1: That was it. So there's a little bit of an
- 19:33Speaker 1: open endedness with season two. There's Yeah, you know who
- 19:40Speaker 1: got the worst for Nan, We got it the worst, right,
- 19:43Speaker 1: don't you think? Well, no, Danglars because he's in prison. No, Villefort,
- 19:49Speaker 1: because of his son, fernand took it upon himself to
- 19:53Speaker 1: not face the consequences of his act. True, you know,
- 19:56Speaker 1: his consequences would have been he would have gone to prison,
- 19:59Speaker 1: but his wife child would have still been living. But
- 20:01Speaker 1: Fernand couldn't live with the humiliation of that. Okay, So
- 20:04Speaker 1: on the flip side, like who has the most satisfying
- 20:07Speaker 1: downfall of the three of them? I think Doanglars? Yeah,
- 20:10Speaker 1: because his wife was bad too, and she goes down
- 20:12Speaker 1: with him and his daughter has a happy ending, and
- 20:16Speaker 1: so I think it's the one you can root for
- 20:19Speaker 1: the most. Yeah. Do you think Mercedes has earned that
- 20:22Speaker 1: moment at the end with Edward? Like, oh sorry and
- 20:25Speaker 1: Edward and Edmund is too much? You think she's earned
- 20:29Speaker 1: his acceptance at the end, his coming to find her.
- 20:33Speaker 1: There's not. There hasn't been enough time. They're telling us
- 20:36Speaker 1: a story that we never saw. When they said the
- 20:38Speaker 1: woman goes and looks out over the castle d'Eve chateau.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Yuess it did. In episode one, she was like standing
- 20:47Speaker 1: there on the thing watching. Yeah, the day he leaves. Yeah, fair, fair,
- 20:52Speaker 1: But at the end we see that they've gone there. Yes, yes,
- 20:58Speaker 1: you're right. I'm laughing at that pronunciation. No, no, because
- 21:02Speaker 1: the name. I'm laughing at the name because when my
- 21:04Speaker 1: daughter was watching it, I was watching with subtitles and
- 21:06Speaker 1: she's like, dilf she just thought that was really funny
- 21:09Speaker 1: because you know melf and yeah, no, I get it.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I was like, it's French, leave it alone. Yeah. Overall,
