- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Rise Up.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Live Joy Your Way with Comedy Wood.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: It's time to step into your power.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: Hi everybody, and welcome to another episode of Rise Up, Live Joy Your Way.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: I am Comedy Wood, and for those of you who are unfamiliar with me, I am a certified life coach that works with individuals on healing that relationship with self and ending the outsourcing of self-worth in order to have healthier relationships and to define success and happiness for themselves, as well as to really just truly engage in their life, to move from box checking and living on autopilot into a place of full engagement and being present in their life and just finding the joy, finding the joy in their lives.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: So today I wanted to do something that was slightly different.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Normally I have a topic that I want to talk about, but I want to start today's podcast talking about a personal experience that I recently had and just the analogy that I came up with when it comes to really uh making self-care and really taking time for your own self-growth and self-compassion and why it's so important as we are on this journey to find our own joy and to live the life that we want to live.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: So the other day I was uh getting ready to drive my son to his golf lesson, and we got in the car and we were halfway down the street and I realized that the uh tire pressure gauge or tire pressure light was on and it was red.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Um my car has it's like it's color-coded, I guess.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: If it's not on at all, there's no problem.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: If the tire pressure is like an orangey yellow color, it's somewhat low, and if it's red, it's very low.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: So at this moment it was exhibit was red, so it was definitely low, and so I scrolled over to figure out what the actual tire pressure was and realized that I was driving on a very flat tire.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: I ended up getting him to his lesson with no problem, and I called the um the dealership who informed me that their service department was closed, and that I could either tow my car there and they would take a look at it on on the following day, or I could just call in the morning.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: So I opted to use my fix-a-flat that I had in the back of my car and go ahead and fix the tire and pump it back up and seal whatever it was because I looked and I didn't see anything in the tire, so I assumed there may have been a nail, maybe it fell out, and I could maybe just seal, seal it with this fix-a flat, right?
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: So it's pretty quick, easy.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: You shake the can, you attach it to your tire, you press the button, it inflates it, and then you just actually have to drive a little bit to get the the sealant to expand across the entire tire.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: So I did that, and as I did it, my red, the red color on the gauge ended up going from red to that orangey color.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: So I knew that I had had more pressure added to the or more air pressure in the tire.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: I scrolled over and it was back up to almost the normal range, and I thought, well, you know, this this might work itself out and I can go about my business.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: So I did.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: I went about my business that day, and then the very next day I tried to get in the car to go somewhere, and I realized that the pressure gauge was backed to red, and all of the air that had been that I thought I had fixed with my Afixa flat actually had escaped, and obviously the nail or whatever was in the tire was still there causing the problem.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: The reason why I bring this story up is as I'm working with clients and I'm talking to them, many times I'll get onto calls with potential clients, and they can see as we're going through the conversation, because we go through um we always go through a first call and and I kind of ask what's going on and dissect a little bit what's happening for them and what's showing up in their world and where they want to go.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: And oftentimes um they have insights that they they didn't see before and they're kind of stunned by it.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: And there are some clients who um have that insight and they see, they see where uh the hole is, so to speak, in in their own personal tire and where they need to be filled up, where they need to seal or you know, and I say seal in using the analogy of the tire, but truthfully, it's where the work needs to be done in order to become to heal that relationship with themselves and to become whole again.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Uh W H O L E whole.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: And there are some people who uh get, you know, we we are on this call and they take the information that was given to them and they decide that they are good for now, or that, you know, maybe they're not totally ready, but they feel good enough after that call so they can go on and and and they feel like they can kind of muscle through, continue going on the path that they were on.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Which reminds me so much of that fix-a-flat, right?
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: So I thought, here I am with this can, like just fix the tire, it'll be fine.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: I can keep doing all of the normal things that I was doing with this tire before.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: And it wasn't until after that was in conversation with my husband where he explained, hey Comedy, you know, that fix-a-flat is really just to seal it and to get you kind of stabilized and get you, you know, to your location.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: It's not meant for you to fix it and go on with your life as though nothing had happened to your tire.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: You actually have to address the tire and whatever nail or whatever is in the tire, get it actually addressed and fixed and replaced or properly patched.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: And so when we're thinking about self-growth, sometimes we recognize that something needs to be addressed, and we will do a little bit of work or and just enough to fill the hole or to fill that little space, but we aren't willing to actually fully address the issue at hand or fully unpack where it's coming from.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: And so, for instance, if we look at limiting beliefs, if we don't fully unpack where they're coming from and understand how they're showing up in our life, it's really difficult to move forward from them.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: And I use this analogy because it's it's been coming up a lot lately where people recognize that there's an issue and they'll do, they want just like the quick fix, right?
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: The quick, give me the five things that I can do to shift this and fix it and move it forward.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: And there are there are definitely tools and strategies that you can try to put into place and it will it'll feel like the shift's been made, right?
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: It'll feel like things are on the upswing, much like my tire.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: But the truth of the matter is it's more like a band-aid.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Because unless you actually get to the deeper level, unless you actually unpack where that's coming from and really from a from a deeper level fix the issue.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: Again, like my tire, unless we actually figure out where the nail is and either fully patch it, or in this particular case, we had to replace the tire, unless we actually dive deeper and figure out what's going on and driving those thought patterns or behavior patterns or limiting beliefs, we can't actually make a shift that's gonna stick.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: We make shifts that stick for a certain amount of time and then they fall back off.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: Um, another analogy that I use oftentimes is that of a band-aid.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: You know, we put the band-aid on and we think, okay, the cut's healed, and the band-aid falls off, and before we know it, the cut, you know, re re starts bleeding again because it hasn't fully healed.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: It's just a scab at that point.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: And so we really have to give it the time and space to address what's really going on there.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: And I know in this day and age we love the quick fix.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm no different, especially with the case of my tire.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: I just wanted to fix the tire and keep going on and keep running and doing all the things that I normally do.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: And it's really, it can be really scary to say, oh, I have to slow down and really address these particular issues in order to move myself forward.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: But yet, if we don't slow down and address those issues, they just come back up.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: We end up flat again, and we end up with the same problem, if not a bigger problem than we had before.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: So I say all this to just encourage you as you're going through, especially during this time of um, you know, COVID and the uncertainty of the world, and as you are starting to question what's going on in your life, or you might be just sort of recognizing that certain things are not quite right, or that you want to shift them, and you really are striving to create the joy in your life.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: It's recognizing that it's okay to give yourself the grace and the space to do that.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: It's okay to invest in yourself to make those shifts happen.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: It's okay, it's not um it's not a commentary on your abilities as a person, as a parent, as a spouse, as a significant other, when you say, hey, I need some support to make the shifts that I want to have happen in order to move myself towards the joy that I know I deserve.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: And it's okay to take the time to really address those things rather than trying to constantly just go to the quick fix and just go to the give me the fix-a-flat, right?
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: We can't just fix a flat when it comes to ourselves and our own growth and our own self-worth.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Those things require our time, attention, and love so that we really can find the joy in our life, the way that we define it, you know, find the success and happiness, the way that we define it for ourselves.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: And it's so important to give ourselves that time to do that.
