- 0:02Fuck ice. Absolutely, absolutely say that
- 0:06with your chest. Fuck.
- 0:07Boss Ice. Hey, Brian.
- 0:09Hello. How you doing?
- 0:13I was doing so good, but then the reminder that it's exist
- 0:16actually like I'm fit, like made my blood boil.
- 0:19All right, from the top, from the top action, how's it going,
- 0:24guys? I know we're in a time of
- 0:27absolute misery. Yeah, hopefully for the next
- 0:30hour we can have a fun little silly goofy time with each
- 0:33other. Yes, because the rest of my day
- 0:38and week and just existence the last.
- 0:41Honestly, the last year and months has just been so hard to
- 0:47deal with on the day-to-day. Yes, it has, Brian.
- 0:50And fortunately for us, today we're going to focus on more
- 0:58paranormal things. Yay, because normal is too
- 1:02fucked up right now. For real.
- 1:03So let's focus on the spooky Oogie Doogie supernatural.
- 1:08You said dookie. I did also, it sounds like my
- 1:12upstairs neighbors are like breastfeeding the floor.
- 1:15Like they're pumping something out of the floor.
- 1:17Breastfeeding the floor. Is crazy sounded like the
- 1:20machine. Don't don't.
- 1:22You're right. It did it really did.
- 1:25OK if you guys listen to last week's episode, we went ghost
- 1:28hunting and we brought you along.
- 1:30Did you like it was a fun was it scary?
- 1:33Did you, did you get scared to pee yourself a little pee boy or
- 1:39no, I'm not pee boy. That was so fun.
- 1:44I hope we get to do a lot more of that in the future.
- 1:46We need to research some local areas to do a little ghost
- 1:51adventure, a little ghost tour. We we didn't switch it up
- 1:54because we've done this in the past already, but technically we
- 1:56switched it up because we went out and about with mics.
- 1:59Guys, we were out in the world recording a podcast in public,
- 2:04people walking past us. The freaking caretaker of the
- 2:07house thought we were so annoying that he had to leave.
- 2:09He. Slammed the door twice and then
- 2:12walked. Out said fuck y'all never looked
- 2:14back. No, he walked with dedication
- 2:17away from him, chest up. We have officially now posted
- 2:22the video portion of last week's episode on Tiktok.
- 2:25It is a 10 minute longer video, so if you want to go see us in
- 2:29action, please follow us on Tiktok.
- 2:32It's the daily BJ. It was honestly a really good
- 2:39time. I would do it again.
- 2:40I would do it again too. Mostly because it wasn't super
- 2:43scary. Yeah, we gave it a 1.5 out of.
- 2:46Ten. Yeah, if for some reason like.
- 2:48We do this and one of us gets attacked.
- 2:52It's like kalamarks or something.
- 2:55Then I I might reconsider how fun it is.
- 2:58I think that's how it normally goes.
- 3:00I've been getting a lot of like tik toks and stuff on my feet
- 3:02that's like it's all fun and games until and then there's
- 3:05like a clip of something that's just freaky as fuck.
- 3:08A brick flies at you in the background.
- 3:10I think I saw one of them where it's like you can see the shirt
- 3:13being pulled from the back just like slowly.
- 3:15And yeah, that's, that's kind of like one of those fuck this
- 3:18moments. I'm out.
- 3:19As scary as that is, I'm still willing to experience that one
- 3:22time, just once. He said it again.
- 3:25I did not. You said it.
- 3:27I'll be with this you. Leave Jerry alone.
- 3:28You'll come to me. Yeah, I, I think it was
- 3:31obviously not scary, but I, I, I like the process of
- 3:35investigating and walking out and, you know.
- 3:37We also went with an enabler. We only had plans to just visit
- 3:42the Bradford house. That's true.
- 3:43That's what our lovely little camera lady said.
- 3:46Go to the cemetery. Come on, let's scope it out.
- 3:48Let's just see. Emphasis on lovely and little.
- 3:50Lovely and little. And we went and off we went to
- 3:54the cemetery, which is honestly really, really, really cool.
- 3:56I'm glad we went. That part was a lot more
- 4:00interesting, yes, then the Bradford house.
- 4:03So the Yorba cemetery we pulled up to the middle of this little
- 4:06quiet neighborhood. I think that Estes method like
- 4:11was way better there than it was.
- 4:13I agree. At the Bradford house, I agree.
- 4:16And if you listen to the episode, some of those answers,
- 4:19you just coincidence my ass. Because there's too many of
- 4:23them. Yep, there's too many.
- 4:26And then the vibes there were just a lot scarier.
- 4:28We're we're going to do a deep dive into the Yorba Cemetery
- 4:31today because we only gave. You a.
- 4:32Tiny little portion. We gave you a whole history on
- 4:35the Bradford house this week. We are coming at you with the
- 4:38story of the Yorba Cemetery. Before then, though, we finally,
- 4:44finally have a listener story. A listener stop.
- 4:48Yes, so this last week I was hanging out with some friends
- 4:51and I was talking with my friend Jesse.
- 4:54Jesse, love you. He was saying, oh, I've never
- 4:57had a scary experience and then says, oh, actually, well this
- 5:02one time and then tells me the scariest experience.
- 5:04Proceeds to tell you the scariest shit ever.
- 5:06Some trauma inducing shit man. So I've, I've listened to this
- 5:11because I, I was there in person recording it, but this is going
- 5:14to be Jerry's reaction. Yes, it is.
- 5:16And thank you Jesse for sharing and and willing to for us to put
- 5:19it on the podcast. So that's awesome.
- 5:21Yeah, hopefully. You can join us live in person
- 5:23for an episode, but for now, your beautiful voice will do.
- 5:27OK, folks, here we go. OK.
- 5:29So this is my friend Jesse. Is there a title to the story?
- 5:33No the Jesse story. The Jesse's ghost story.
- 5:37We'll call it the the ghost ghost story.
- 5:42OK, Think of ghost. OK, Ghost.
- 5:45Ghost, ghost. There was something.
- 5:50Going on and it was. Just my clothes that I left.
- 5:55Like it looked like a. Figure it was just growing it
- 5:57looked like a figure to you Oh my God hi everyone I'm here with
- 6:00my friend Jesse and he has a ghost story he wants to share
- 6:02with us it's. Not really.
- 6:03OK, it's not really like. Paranormal.
- 6:05Ghost Story. But it was like an experience
- 6:07and it was like, so like playing games in the living room.
- 6:12It's like an old house, like with my family, you know, like
- 6:15very young. I was like maybe 14 and then.
- 6:19It's a scary age to. Be it was a weekday, mind you, I
- 6:22was playing video games on a weekday and then I'm playing and
- 6:24then like I fell asleep because it was like, you know obviously
- 6:27I wasn't playing for so long and I think woke up and it was like
- 6:30it was like midnight or like 2 in the morning.
- 6:32I could not tell you, but I woke up witching out and like it was
- 6:36late as fuck and I was like Oh my God, I can't believe I fell
- 6:38asleep in the living room. You know, I'm like, and like it
- 6:40was cold and like I think my game was still on so, you know,
- 6:44I had to turn it off and but like, but when I woke up, it was
- 6:49really sudden. Like I, you know, I forgot about
- 6:51that. Like when I woke up, it was
- 6:52like, it felt like someone kind of like like grabbed me and like
- 6:55like kind of shook me and like I couldn't, I can't remember what
- 6:58was said to me. I don't know if it was like my
- 6:59name or something. Like you heard?
- 7:01Something, no, I heard something like I swear it was like
- 7:03something grabbed me or something and like no, So it, I
- 7:06was like a little panicked and like that's why I, I, I was
- 7:09like, Oh my God. Like I woke up and like I was
- 7:10freaked out because I was like, I'm in the living room.
- 7:12That happened and then I'm looking at the TV and like my
- 7:15games on so I'm like OK, I got to get upstairs so fast.
- 7:17So like all this happening really fast, but like it's it's
- 7:20just happening and we and I had to go upstairs to go to my room.
- 7:24So my stairs are like really like there was like a narrow.
- 7:26Way stairs involve. Turns like from the left going
- 7:29up and the stairs are very small like that.
- 7:31It wasn't a very big two-story house and like I grabbed the the
- 7:35white wooden rail or whatever to go up and like I swear I feel
- 7:39like something It's like almost like if someone rested their arm
- 7:43and hand on my arm and hand like and I felt like chill.
- 7:48I felt like it was in the reason like that's that was what I
- 7:50felt, but it felt like I would, I would say like if almost like
- 7:55if they were trying to rest their hand at the same position
- 7:57with my arm so that we were like the same arm.
- 8:00It felt like it's kind of like that.
- 8:01Like they were like, it felt like a lot of just like cold
- 8:05grabbing my entire arm and it freaked me out because like I
- 8:08heard something and I ran to my room.
- 8:10I ran to my room and I was like, Oh my God, like what was that?
- 8:13And then like, I, I don't know, I didn't, I didn't know what it
- 8:17was, but it freaked me out and I was like, I think I, I just like
- 8:20tried to go to sleep as quickly as I could and then I just woke
- 8:23up because. And you woke up in your bedroom.
- 8:25Yeah, I woke up in my bedroom because I was asleep.
- 8:27I mean, I, I had ran to my bedroom, you know?
- 8:31I felt like the house was weird, though.
- 8:34That was weird. I don't know.
- 8:39I don't know. That's like I, I'm like not a
- 8:41paranormal person. It takes a lot of convincing for
- 8:44me. I need, I need evidence.
- 8:46I want to say evidence, you know, So like sometimes stories
- 8:49don't do enough for me, but I'm still interested in hearing
- 8:52them. But like, I have my experiences
- 8:54and like, I don't think I've had a lot of experiences recently, I
- 8:58would say. That's kind of terrifying.
- 9:00If that happened to me, I think I'd cry.
- 9:01Yeah, but sometimes I think that like I, I would wake up a lot
- 9:05where like, like I wake up and then it feels like, you know,
- 9:07when like you, you fall in a dream, right?
- 9:09You kind of like. Shake.
- 9:10You shake. So that's kind of how it felt
- 9:12when I woke up in that moment, but it felt I was dreaming about
- 9:18something irrelevant to that and I didn't.
- 9:20It's not like I fell or anything, it was just, it felt
- 9:23like someone like almost like if my dad was like Jessie or
- 9:26something. Like thing like.
- 9:28Yeah, yeah. Well, and I think that's what I,
- 9:31because when I woke up, I, I was, I was like, where like who,
- 9:33who did that? Expected to see.
- 9:35Some Yeah, I expected to see like my dad.
- 9:37I want to see. I expected to see my dad wake me
- 9:39up because my dad would have been mad that I was playing
- 9:41games on a. School night.
- 9:42Yeah, On a school night. So like, that's why I was like,
- 9:46I was like, oh, and then I didn't see anybody.
- 9:48And that's what freaked me out. And that's was like, I got to go
- 9:49upstairs. I got to have some, you know.
- 9:51That is kind of scary, anticipating you're going to see
- 9:53someone or something you expect not happening.
- 9:56It was freaky because that happened and then I get on the
- 9:59fucking stairs and I put my arm on the the rail and then yeah,
- 10:02it felt like it felt scary. It felt scary, but yeah, I don't
- 10:09even. Did I go to my room?
- 10:11I think I did go to my room. I might have gone to my
- 10:12grandma's room. Was she there?
- 10:14Yeah. So like, yeah, So like, I might
- 10:17have slept in her room with her because I might have been
- 10:19freaked out, but I can't remember because I was young and
- 10:21I don't. And I feel like there's a lot
- 10:22that I can't like remember. Well thank you for sharing, that
- 10:25is actually my worst nightmare. Like I'm trying to think of like
- 10:29other things that I've felt very similar, but it's not, it's not
- 10:35like I feel like that was like one of the most memorable.
- 10:38So many things, so many things. First of all, thank you for
- 10:42sharing. Again, that's a freaky ass
- 10:44story. Like, OK, OK, OK, let's let's
- 10:47get into it because I have too many thoughts, but I'm and I'm
- 10:48going to forget. I know that feeling of yes, when
- 10:52you like fall in a dream and whatever and you like suddenly
- 10:55wake up like jutter not like let your light twitch it yeah, it's
- 10:58like it's like a twitch. It's like a sudden twitch and it
- 11:00just it wakes you up. You're like fully conscious like
- 11:02just there's no time for waking up slow like, you know, like
- 11:06that slowly. No, it's boom, you're up your
- 11:08senses, your vision, your hearing, your everything, But
- 11:11I've had that feeling where it's it's not a falling dream, it's
- 11:14not a tripping dream. It's just like a what the fuck?
- 11:18What woke me up, you know, And some sometimes it is someone
- 11:21calling your name out out loud and your brain just registers it
- 11:24and wakes you up, right? I'm snapping.
- 11:26So you think like something or someone like called Jesse I?
- 11:29Think so, I think cuz then you're like I you're, you're
- 11:32expecting to see something, you're expecting to see someone
- 11:35and clearly it's familiar to you or not where it's either someone
- 11:38you know that called you or you feel that called you, or it's
- 11:42something completely different that just woke your body up and
- 11:45with one thing you trust your body, you know, true.
- 11:48I truly believe in that. That's freaky as fuck.
- 11:53Another freaky thing. The stairs.
- 11:55You said the stairs that automatically.
- 11:57Yeah. In the night time at dawn, like
- 12:00while it's dark, you just stare up to a dark hallway that is a
- 12:03portal to freaking hell. Yeah, it's an abyss black hole.
- 12:07And the freaky part is putting his hand on like the rail and
- 12:12not feeling a hand like opposite where it's like you feel the
- 12:15fingers on your knuckles and stuff like.
- 12:18It's like the. Orientation.
- 12:19Yeah, no, this is the same orientation, like a hand over
- 12:22your hand. And that is weird because then
- 12:25that tells me it's like, well, they're not like, are they
- 12:28directly on you? Are they directly behind you?
- 12:31Like what is? It I wonder if they're like
- 12:33floating like right behind you where they can put the.
- 12:36Yeah, like right behind you. And it's just like a right
- 12:38behind you. And it's just like this.
- 12:39Sorry, I had to put my mic down and use my hands instead of like
- 12:42the person being up or something.
- 12:45Being up and then feeling this, you know, feeling.
- 12:48Yeah, I you have to see you guys can't explain it.
- 12:52DDC Why I called it the ghost ghost story because I was
- 12:55thinking about the ghost movie where the hands go over.
- 12:59Patrick Swayze, This is the second time we talk about.
- 13:02Patrick. It was Patrick Swayze's ghost,
- 13:03Jesse. You sure felt like safe in his.
- 13:05Arms. Yeah, yeah, you should have just
- 13:07caved in and started making some pottery.
- 13:10I You make a great point with that first remark of
- 13:15anticipating something normal. Because if you woke up fully
- 13:19expecting to see your dad calling your name, the scary
- 13:22part is not waking up. The scary part is waking up and
- 13:24realizing that's not what happened.
- 13:26Exactly. Especially in that split moment
- 13:29of like Oh my God I'm alone. What the What the fuck was that?
- 13:32And then feeling like you're being shaken, like there's that
- 13:35too. Like what?
- 13:36What are you doing? That's.
- 13:37That's fully different from that little like, jolt you do where
- 13:41you feel like you're either falling or in your dream or
- 13:43something similar. Yeah, that's different from
- 13:45someone like rattling you. Exactly.
- 13:48Like, but that's two very specific feelings.
- 13:51That man. You, you, you just there's no
- 13:54words for it. Like, I can't imagine how scared
- 13:56you must have been. As in at 14.
- 13:58Like, you're a kid. Yeah, you're a fucking kid.
- 14:00Like what? Explain that world.
- 14:04Freaky. And they said, oh, I, I don't
- 14:07know how to scare you. And then goes on to tell me this
- 14:10frightening tale. I've just been attacked by by
- 14:14some sort of spirit. Dang I I also know that feeling
- 14:18of of living in a creepy ass house.
- 14:19Like just something about it the the turning the hallway turning
- 14:24into a specific room. I used to live in a house like
- 14:27that. Not to like not long, but we
- 14:28were there for a couple years and there's some just fad vibes
- 14:32in the garage. The one where you had the musty
- 14:34ceiling, where you slept in the corner, Yes.
- 14:36Yes, somehow there was just like always mold growing in.
- 14:38I mean it could have been fucking water damage.
- 14:39Oh true into the in the old house.
- 14:41It would have been the ghost or it could have just the bad
- 14:44energies in that house. But the garage when we first
- 14:47moved there was, and I don't know if I've mentioned this so
- 14:49sorry if I'm repeating myself, that garage when we first moved
- 14:51in there in the back was completely plain, painted from
- 14:55wall to ceiling in black and there were stars on the ceiling.
- 14:58Whoa. Like like weird.
- 15:00Blow in the dark stars. Oh.
- 15:01That's not bad, I thought you meant something cultish.
- 15:03That's cute. But that's it.
- 15:05I wish I had those. There was nothing the walls in
- 15:07the ceiling black, you're full and the.
- 15:09Stars. OK, You know what, They probably
- 15:10went in there and got high and that was there like Vibey Place.
- 15:14I don't know, but there's some freaky stories from that house I
- 15:17got. I got to pull those up.
- 15:18I got to talk to my parents about that.
- 15:19Yeah, I get the stories from them.
- 15:20They they were interacting with the people that were affected.
- 15:25Wow. Thank you again, Jesse.
- 15:26That was awesome. Thank you Jesse, hope to have
- 15:28you on soon in person. I've never had an experience
- 15:34like that as much as I want to. I remember I didn't grow up in a
- 15:38but I think is a spooky house because nothing ever happened to
- 15:40me. My brother said stuff happened
- 15:42to him one time we rented out the room to someone and they
- 15:46could would have swore that they saw things but I was never
- 15:50really scared of that place. My mom says that when we moved
- 15:54in or right before we moved in that the old owners told my mom.
- 15:57Don't worry the ghost is nice. I forgot and then they walked
- 16:02out of the door quick and. They said you're the Keys by and
- 16:05they moved cross country, they moved to Florida.
- 16:09Why of all places? Well, back to your regularly
- 16:15scheduled program. We're going to talk to you about
- 16:17the Yorba Cemetery. The Yorba Cemetery sits quietly
- 16:23nestled in the scenic hills of Yorba Linda, CA, a small
- 16:27overgrown burial ground with a history that stretches back to
- 16:30the earliest days of Orange County.
- 16:32According to SoCal landmarks, the cemetery was established in
- 16:351858 by Bernardo Yorba, a prominent ranchero and one of
- 16:38the wealthiest men in 19th century California.
- 16:41Yorba was not just wealthy, he was powerful.
- 16:43According to the Voice of OC, he controlled more than 13,000
- 16:47acres of land known as Rancho Canyon de Santana, a Mexican
- 16:50land grant he received in 1834. The Rancho spanned parts of what
- 16:55are now several modern cities function almost like it's own
- 16:58self-contained community. The cemetery itself occupies
- 17:01just one acre of the land, yet it holds of this distinction of
- 17:04being one of the oldest private cemeteries in Orange County.
- 17:07According to historians cited by Voice of OC, it was originally
- 17:11intended as a burial place for Yorba's immediate family and
- 17:13close friends. Over time, however, that purpose
- 17:16expanded. By the time the cemetery closed,
- 17:19historians estimate that it held more than 400 burials, all
- 17:23within that single acre. And we, we were there.
- 17:27That was a tiny little. Block of land that no, there's
- 17:31no way. That holds 400.
- 17:33No it does not. It's literally not even a block
- 17:35long. It's also right in between like
- 17:37a tennis court and like a little green walkway.
- 17:40The rest of them are probably under that tennis court.
- 17:42Imagine you might be surprised. Before his death in 1858,
- 17:48Bernardo Yorba amended his will to deed the cemetery land, along
- 17:51with space for an Adobe Chapel, to the Catholic Church,
- 17:54According to Socal landmarks at the time, churches commonly
- 17:58oversaw burials, especially in rural areas where public
- 18:00cemeteries didn't yet exist. Members of several prominent
- 18:03California families were laid to rest here, including the Yorbas
- 18:07de Los Reyes, Peralta, Dominguez and the Navarro families,
- 18:11according to Voice of OC. Many of these family names still
- 18:14appear throughout Orange County today in street names and
- 18:16neighborhoods. What are your thoughts on
- 18:17families being buried together? Because that's a big thing in
- 18:20Mexican. Traditional.
- 18:20Yeah, that's all tradition. The I don't know the Las tumbas,
- 18:25the the family tumbas have like yeah, 3 generations already I've
- 18:29said I know of. Yours like your family?
- 18:32Whoa, have you been? When was the last time you went?
- 18:35When my grandfather died. Oh, what are what are the vibes?
- 18:39I mean, separate from you mourning, what are the vibes
- 18:43like in those cemeteries? Do you Fuck, dude, I'm telling
- 18:45you like walking. Not even aisles.
- 18:49Because sometimes I feel like they're just like stacked right
- 18:51next to each other and it just becomes like a labyrinth.
- 18:54And I think they're pretty creepy.
- 18:55And some of those are old. I bet.
- 18:58Yeah, ancient. The cemetery remained active
- 19:01from roughly 1860 until 1939, making it a burial site for
- 19:04multiple generations of early settlers.
- 19:07According to the Voice of OC, this means grandparents, parents
- 19:09and children were often buried in the same small space over
- 19:12decades. That makes sense in the 400.
- 19:16Like what if they're all buried on top of each other?
- 19:18That makes sense. I still feel like it's not
- 19:21enough. Not enough space.
- 19:22True, that's also not legal in California anymore.
- 19:24That makes sense. You can only have one per plot,
- 19:27and there's very specific regulations into how deep they
- 19:29have to be too. OK, so think about in the late
- 19:321800s. They were like, that's deep.
- 19:35Enough space for the body to fit and they put it real deep.
- 19:38Because they're they're, they have a bunch of grandkids.
- 19:39Exactly. Gotta make room.
- 19:41Damn. It's closure came under unusual
- 19:44circumstances. According to the Fullerton
- 19:47Observer, in 1935, employees of the Anaheim Union Water Company
- 19:51began reporting something disturbing while working near
- 19:56the cemetery. They claim to repeatedly find
- 19:59newly buried bodies outside the cemeteries recognized
- 20:04boundaries. So this is 1930s.
- 20:07Think like this is the World War, World War One.
- 20:10World War Two, 1930s. Sure.
- 20:13That that still seems like a recent history to be digging
- 20:17around for like water supply issues and you find freshly
- 20:20buried bodies outside that little block of land that is
- 20:23gated right now. By the way, like where we were
- 20:26standing in the Estes method, there was bodies buried there.
- 20:30I believe it. I couldn't find what they did
- 20:32with them, like if they were like buried in, I don't know.
- 20:36That's a good thing to do additional research.
- 20:41These reports triggered a letter writing campaign calling for
- 20:43intervention, and in 1939, burials at Yorba Cemetery were
- 20:46officially halted. After its closure, the cemetery
- 20:49entered decades of neglect. According to a Fullerton
- 20:52observer, vandalism became so severe that every headstone
- 20:56except Bernardo Yorba's was knocked over at least once, and
- 21:00even his was in spared, with two panels reportedly shot at.
- 21:04Wow. That was the big one in the
- 21:05middle. Yes, yes I do.
- 21:08And when we were doing the S s method, that's the one where I
- 21:11thought I saw like a little flicker of a shadow when nothing
- 21:14was moving in the area. Good eye.
- 21:18As of today, only 134 headstones remain.
- 21:22Despite the hundreds of people buried there.
- 21:24Orange County did not acquire the cemetery until the 1970s,
- 21:28long after much of the damage had been done.
- 21:30In an early attempt to restore the site, the county made a
- 21:33decision that permanently altered it, according to the
- 21:37Fullerton Observer. All remaining headstones were
- 21:39removed, the land was levelled and the markers were returned.
- 21:44Except they did not make a burial map.
- 21:48They picked up all these headstones that had fallen over,
- 21:51were misplaced, took them somewhere else.
- 21:53I think they took them to what was Yorba's barn or farm or
- 21:57something. He had some other land nearby
- 22:00and they reset the land. They put new dirt, they tidied
- 22:05it up and they came back and said.
- 22:07Shit, you're like damn, where did this go?
- 22:11OK, I guess I they used his, his grave as like a marker to be
- 22:16like, oh, I think this one was over here.
- 22:18That one was over there. What percentage do you think was
- 22:20right? I would guess no more than 30.
- 22:27I was going to say lower. Really.
- 22:28I was, Yeah. What's your guess?
- 22:31Like 17%? Oh.
- 22:34OK. As a result, there is no
- 22:36guarantee that the names on the headstones today correspond to
- 22:39the bodies buried underneath them.
- 22:42So there is layers deep of bodies and who knows of the name
- 22:45right on top matches? Probably not.
- 22:50Do you think that messes with things?
- 22:52Like they have all these like ghost stories of apparitions and
- 22:55stuff? Do you think it's because like,
- 22:57the headstone doesn't match the grave anymore?
- 23:00That would make a lot of sense and I'll get to that.
- 23:03Oh, Jerry has tea. I think.
- 23:08In more recent years, volunteers and historians have tried to
- 23:11correct what they can't, according to the Voice of OC,
- 23:13white crosses now mark locations where unmarked graves have been
- 23:16discovered, serving as quiet acknowledgments for those whose
- 23:19names were lost to time. And we saw them.
- 23:21Or the public works. True.
- 23:22Oh my God, we did see them. They I asked Jerry like, no way
- 23:27those are from like the 1860s would would not last that long.
- 23:30But no, I found out it's because they're newly discovered to have
- 23:35a body there. You're telling me that in that
- 23:37like fence that they put up to keep people out, there is a
- 23:40white cross no more than a foot away from that fence?
- 23:43You don't think there's more passing the fence under the
- 23:46concrete under those pads? True, you don't have to dig that
- 23:49deep for concrete, but I mean they did have to do like sewer
- 23:53like they had to lay down a sewer and water pipes.
- 23:56They're like, OK, we'll lay the pipe and then if you find the
- 23:59bodies just. Always find a body hard right
- 24:01angle. Exactly, find another hard right
- 24:03angle. We have to find the the the city
- 24:06plans for the waterworks there True.
- 24:10Today, Yorba Cemetery is open to the public for guided tours on
- 24:13the 1st Saturday of each month, offering visitors A brief
- 24:16history lesson and a chance to stand in a place where the past
- 24:18feels uncomfortably close. Yeah, I'm down.
- 24:23I for Saturday of the month is 2 weeks from now.
- 24:26Two weeks from now and if we have nothing planned, I say we
- 24:30go. I'm so down.
- 24:32But what time do they close it? It's only open for an hour.
- 24:35Wow. I think it's only from 10:00 AM
- 24:37to 11:00 AM, So you have to get there early.
- 24:39Pretty early. Yeah.
- 24:40And there's no parking. True.
- 24:42It was. It's it's literally in a very
- 24:44nice private neighborhood where it says no trespassing.
- 24:47Yeah, but there's a private cemetery.
- 24:50It's true private cemetery, but not private tennis court.
- 24:53Exactly that. That's that's open to all.
- 24:57I don't see why it wouldn't be. It's not locked.
- 25:00They got to figure something out.
- 25:01Whatever's going on there is just, it's messy.
- 25:03Yeah, it's rude. Let's talk to the HOA and.
- 25:05Be like, hey, do you guys have a private cemetery anyways?
- 25:08But anyways, but a public cemetery court make it make
- 25:10sense. Yeah.
- 25:12Wow. And I guess that was a big thing
- 25:14at the time because no, I don't think the state didn't exist.
- 25:17But there was also no the church didn't have cemeteries in the
- 25:22area. Like cemeteries were all
- 25:24privately owned. You would just say, oh, we're
- 25:26gonna have to bury Grandma Outback.
- 25:29Make yeah, make your own little plot of land for.
- 25:32I wonder what the land looked like at that time for Mr. Yorba
- 25:37to say this. One acre?
- 25:39This is a cemetery out of like 13,000 I think.
- 25:42It's stretched from Corona all the way to Santa Ana.
- 25:44Yeah, like I wonder if you had anything nearby or maybe
- 25:46everything was away from this area.
- 25:48True, it is on a really nice hill which overlooks like a
- 25:52little part of. That I buy into that because the
- 25:55closest cemetery or the biggest one in our area is Forest Lawn
- 25:59and Covina, and that one is a huge hill also just overlooking
- 26:03the valley. Away from like major, major
- 26:05cities or major like, well, I mean it's in.
- 26:08Well, good time things. Things like grow.
- 26:11Like now there's an entire neighborhood in and around that
- 26:14one acre of cemetery land. That's true.
- 26:16That's true. Well, friend.
- 26:19I didn't dive into any of the ghost stories, Jerry said.
- 26:21That's all hemp. Ah, specifically 11 Ghost Story.
- 26:26Thank you for sharing, Brent. That was awesome.
- 26:27I learned so much. There's a legend.
- 26:32A pink legend from the Pink Pony Club, maybe.
- 26:39Guess what, it's in Yorba Linda. There's a legend that refuses to
- 26:44stay buried. Oh shit.
- 26:48No disrespect, but this name is pretty, pretty wacky.
- 26:53Albina Dello Reyes whoa. Known to generations as the Pink
- 26:58Lady of Yorba Cemetery. Died on December 2nd, 1910.
- 27:03Oh, that's right before my birthday.
- 27:04That's Britney Spears's birthday.
- 27:07She is the Pink Lady reborn. The woman herself passed quietly
- 27:12into history. The story attached to her did
- 27:15not. According to local legend,
- 27:17Alvina was wearing a pink gown the night she attended a dance
- 27:21at Valencia High School. On her way home along Kellogg
- 27:25Rd. she carried her carriage overturned.
- 27:28She was thrown out, struck her head and died instantly.
- 27:32The legend claims that every even numbered year on June 15th
- 27:38or in 2020. 6 I know. Between midnight and 3:00 AM,
- 27:42she rises from her grave and walks to visit her relatives.
- 27:47She's fucking looking for her relatives.
- 27:49This is like a day of the dead type, like.
- 27:51Via it does. It does sound like it.
- 27:52With a very set time frame, why every even year I would like to
- 27:55know. That's that's very interesting.
- 27:57Yeah. For decades, thrill seekers took
- 28:00this seriously, camping out at Yorba Cemetery in hopes of
- 28:03catching a glimpse of a pink clad apparition.
- 28:06No one ever did. And perhaps that's because
- 28:09Alvina de Los Reyes was never the Pink Lady at all.
- 28:12What? Wait, why?
- 28:13Why would you tell me that? That was a legend.
- 28:15That's what people say. Arthur Peralta, her grand
- 28:19nephew, later explained that Alvina died at age 31 from
- 28:22complications during childbirth, not from a carriage accident and
- 28:27not after a dance. Damn, they got us.
- 28:30They said dude, stop. The other problem with the
- 28:33story? Valencia High School didn't even
- 28:35exist at the time Alvina supposedly attended the dance.
- 28:38Are we gullible? Who's who's spread this rumor?
- 28:41I mean, I'm sure the locals and stuff in the area.
- 28:44Park Ranger Linda Lorenzi believes a legend likely emerged
- 28:47in the 1940s. It wasn't about history anymore.
- 28:50It was about courage. A night at the cemetery became a
- 28:53dare. You had to survive.
- 28:55Still, fragments of the truth muddy the waters.
- 29:00Some relatives recalled a different young woman, about 17,
- 29:03who may have died in a carriage accident while wearing pink.
- 29:07Records from the area were incomplete.
- 29:08Names were forgotten, stories blended.
- 29:11Which happens over time. Normal.
- 29:13So the mystery lingered. Was there a woman in pink?
- 29:16Was there a carriage accident? And if not Alvina, then who?
- 29:20Some legends die harder than the mortals who created them.
- 29:23And yet eventually, even legends must die.
- 29:26The story is adapted from a historical newspaper article in
- 29:28the Yorba Yorba Cemetery Pink Lady Legend, featuring
- 29:31interviews with Alvina de la Reyes relatives and Orange
- 29:34County Park officials. Originally published in the
- 29:36Orange County Register. So.
- 29:39So they did some deep dives. Yeah, this is, it's Orange
- 29:41County Register. I mean major paper here in
- 29:44Orange County. I think the other one was.
- 29:47Damn, someone at the register really said I need to get to the
- 29:50bottom of this pink lady. Yorbalindahistory.org was the
- 29:54other source. So it's, yeah, this story has
- 29:56like been around for a long, long time.
- 29:59Why do you think that is? It's always like a a lady and a
- 30:02color. The Pink lady here.
- 30:04Yeah, it's always a lady in something.
- 30:06Yeah, the. The Queen Mary.
- 30:09I don't know. And I think that is something
- 30:10that's widely talked about, like why is it always a woman in a
- 30:14gown depending on colour, but it's always white.
- 30:17For the most part it's always white.
- 30:19I don't know. I think it's an easy and this is
- 30:21just what I think. What if it's just a tactic to
- 30:25get people to visit their town? But they're OK.
- 30:28That makes sense. But unless they're spending
- 30:31money in the local economy, this place is you just walk up to it.
- 30:35It's not like anyone's make profiting off of this.
- 30:37True. I, I just mean like back like in
- 30:38the 1940s and stuff like how do we generate revenue?
- 30:41How do we make a, a line in the newspaper for people to come
- 30:44visit and see, visit our town, Yorba Linda, make up a story?
- 30:48I don't know. Who knows?
- 30:51But that takes me back to your story.
- 30:53They changed up the headstones. They have no idea where it's
- 30:55placed. So what did it?
- 30:56What if it is her? That's like looking for her
- 30:59relatives. True.
- 31:00This isn't where my Tia was buried.
- 31:02Wait. And then she like, wait, my
- 31:04friend has to be buried over here.
- 31:05And then she floats over to the other to double check.
- 31:08Wait, who's Fred? Who's Lawrence?
- 31:13Who's Lawrence? So what if that's true?
- 31:16What if? Thought we were Latinos here.
- 31:17I know I was like, what, Jacob? I can't even do this.
- 31:21Just the twilight. Jacob.
- 31:22Jacob. Isn't it kind of crazy how
- 31:26history works? This entire land that we're at
- 31:29is also originally Mexican owned, indigenous.
- 31:32Look at the names. And now it's part of the United
- 31:36States of America. Not no.
- 31:37This is getting too close to the topics that bring me stress.
- 31:40You know what's going to help? Some fun facts.
- 31:42Oh. Please.
- 31:44Cemetery versus graveyard, is it the same thing?
- 31:48No, really. A graveyard is attached to a
- 31:51church. A cemetery is a standalone
- 31:54burial ground. All graveyards are cemeteries,
- 31:57but not all cemeteries are graveyards.
- 32:00I thank you, Jerry. I would never have known this
- 32:02distinction. Headstones don't always mark a
- 32:05grave. What?
- 32:06In older cemeteries, markers were often made of wood or
- 32:10simple stone, Many of them rotted or sink.
- 32:13That's why some cemeteries look sparse even though they're full.
- 32:17So some of them are just like gone.
- 32:18They're just like there's a body there but it looks empty.
- 32:21It looks like it just became part of the land over time.
- 32:25I'll get to that. But tombstones sink over time.
- 32:29This is my point. No hunting required lol.
- 32:33As coffins decay, soil shifts. Graves can sink, especially
- 32:36after rain. That visual is nasty.
- 32:41Just like sinking and you've seen the I mean.
- 32:43No of the coffins like the old wooden.
- 32:45Coffins like absolutely paying it just and then caving in and
- 32:47then just you know, that becomes compost.
- 32:49That makes me think of zombies. Skulls, wings, and hourglasses
- 32:53weren't meant to look to look spooky.
- 32:56Early gravestones use memento Mori symbols.
- 32:59Symbols. Why do the English code symbols?
- 33:03Skulls sounded the same each time you said sorry.
- 33:07Skulls equal mortality, Wings the soul's journey, hourglasses
- 33:11time running out, less Boo and more remember to live.
- 33:16Get it? Like less Boo.
- 33:17Oh my God, yes, I can get it. Graveyards are accidental,
- 33:22accidental wildlife preserves. Because they're protected and
- 33:26rarely developed, cemeteries often become safe havens for
- 33:28birds and other animals and plants.
- 33:31That that makes a lot of sense, especially like the old
- 33:34abandoned ones graveyard specifically in those churches
- 33:38in the forest and you can just envision like a bird's nest some
- 33:43deer walking by. I was watching a crazy YouTube
- 33:46video of it's related of this man who died, but that's not
- 33:50that's not the point. But he did die.
- 33:54He was hit by a drunk drive. Right thing.
- 33:55That's so sad. But his whole channel was him
- 33:58doing these crazy explorations in different parts of first the
- 34:02United States, then the world where he would find a cool place
- 34:06like on Google Maps. And then he would go out there
- 34:09and explore. He's done like the Grand Canyon,
- 34:12the desert. And he would find all these like
- 34:14historical remnants, like the the blades of old arrows and
- 34:20stuff. Yes, just artifacts.
- 34:23And there was one video. I think it's the same guy where
- 34:27he found this really cool looking structure in this random
- 34:31mountain in a random country, I think somewhere in South
- 34:33America. And he said, I want to know
- 34:36what's over there. Why is there just a random like
- 34:37castle turret in this mountain range and there's nothing else
- 34:40around? He went, I think I've seen this
- 34:43on the way there, he finds this old looking church.
- 34:47It's not the one that he's looking for, but there's someone
- 34:50living there. Hell no.
- 34:53It's a monk or a a priest or something that is the caretaker
- 34:58of this old ass remnants of a church.
- 35:01It has. Is there a dog in the video?
- 35:03There's a dog in the video. He invites him in for coffee or
- 35:05something. Uh huh.
- 35:06And he gives him like some sort of syrup, like a like a homemade
- 35:11vanilla syrup or maybe some applesauce, I don't know.
- 35:15But then he gives him a tour of the church, and he opens A room
- 35:19full of skeletons and bones, and he explains that they're all the
- 35:23old caretakers, that when they die, they get put there.
- 35:27So homeboy that's living there with the dogs gonna eventually
- 35:30end up in there. Does the dog get to go in there
- 35:32too? I don't see, I didn't see a
- 35:34single dog skull in there, just humans.
- 35:36Good. That's fucking wild.
- 35:38You know what? I never finished that video.
- 35:40I started it and I was like, well, that's weird.
- 35:41You want the spoiler? Yeah, sure.
- 35:43He makes it. There's nothing there, just the
- 35:46he thinks that he finds the structure, but there's there's
- 35:48nothing there because he can't reach it.
- 35:49It's too steep. Nice.
- 35:51But that's going back to the point this.
- 35:53Yeah, yeah. It has taken, taken over by the
- 35:56environment again. There's a lot of wild animal
- 35:59animals that can like make a home out of it.
- 36:02It's. Like protection?
- 36:04Yeah, nature reclaims. Dang, my life is different now
- 36:09that I know the difference between a graveyard and a
- 36:10cemetery. A couple more.
- 36:13A couple more. Some cemeteries predate the
- 36:16towns around them. Settlements, often called sorry
- 36:19settlements, often grew around burial grounds, so the dead were
- 36:22sometimes the first residents. You can be buried standing up.
- 36:29What space saving burials have existed for centuries.
- 36:32Monk soldiers and modern eco burials have used vertical
- 36:36graves. Hey, at least you're not laying
- 36:40down the whole time. I feel like your back would get
- 36:42tired. I'd be my feet would get tired
- 36:43standing up rather my back get tired laying down.
- 36:46This one was really, really cool and it's a lot.
- 36:50Cemeteries inspired modern city parks, places like Pere La Case
- 36:56that's supposed to be PERELACHAISE, the largest
- 37:02cemetery in Paris, famous as the world's most visited necropolis
- 37:07and Mount Auburn Cemetery said 175 acre National Historic
- 37:12Landmark. Wow.
- 37:13Recognized as the first rural or garden cemetery in North America
- 37:17directly influence how public parks were designed winding
- 37:20paths, trees and monuments. Whoa.
- 37:25You know what I want? You made me want to research now
- 37:28the catacombs in Paris. Oh yeah, I'm there's some
- 37:32sketchy things going down there. What's the difference in the
- 37:36catacomb? Paris and the Las Vegas, The
- 37:39tunnels, yeah. What let's Teslas dive through
- 37:42them? Oh, there you go.
- 37:43There you go. You never know.
- 37:46Those Paris catacombs have been around a long time.
- 37:49I had an idea. We go to the Paris catacombs.
- 37:52No, I mean, we can, but that's that's a far off idea.
- 37:55That's an expensive sponsors. We're considering a Seattle trip
- 38:01soon. There's a lot of, I don't know
- 38:04if it's catacombs, but there's a lot of spooky underground stuff
- 38:06in Seattle that you can take tours of.
- 38:09Would you be down? Should we look?
- 38:11Into always always. Down.
- 38:15That would be a cool. That would be a cool episode.
- 38:17That'd be pretty sick. That's all I got, friend.
- 38:21Some fun facts. The Pink Lady.
- 38:24Alvina. Alvina.
- 38:27She wasn't even real. She didn't even go there.
- 38:30She didn't even. Go there.
- 38:31She didn't even die there. That has to be the.
- 38:34There's a common thread in a lot of these, like folk tales.
- 38:37It reminds me of like the Yorona, where it, it's just a
- 38:41story to keep you from going into a specific place.
- 38:45Like, hey, at night time, don't go into the river.
- 38:48Yeah, Main reason the tides can be really strong.
- 38:51Yeah. It's dangerous.
- 38:53Keep the children from there because they're not going to
- 38:54understand. You know what they would
- 38:56understand? Fear.
- 38:57Fear a scary. Lady, that doesn't exist.
- 39:00Same for a lady in pink who is haunting the cemetery.
- 39:06That way. You don't go playing there in
- 39:08the dark with a bunch of stones, uneven ground.
- 39:10You're gonna hurt yourself unsupervised.
- 39:14But then on the other side of the coin, you have people who
- 39:17are drawn to this that are like, wait, there's no pink lady,
- 39:20let's go see. And they go and they vandalize
- 39:22the freaking cemetery. That's true.
- 39:24And once again, like what the the the trend with vandalism
- 39:28with cemeteries and places like burial grounds like.
- 39:32I don't understand why desecrate it.
- 39:34I there's another cemetery nearby that I would also love to
- 39:38go to, but that one is not open to the public and it's not even,
- 39:42I don't think it's close to anything.
- 39:44It's like near some trade train tracks.
- 39:46But that's the Spadra cemetery in Pomona.
- 39:49They also have tours, but that's mostly only in October.
- 39:52Spadra is the last name of the person that stayed at the Berry
- 39:55there, right? Yes, Spadra I think is I'd have
- 39:59to do research so I could be lying.
- 40:02Is the founder of Spadra eventually became Pomona OK but
- 40:09set up farm there and it became so populous that they ended up
- 40:15making a train. But then the train ended up
- 40:18leading you all the way to I think LA and other bigger cities
- 40:21that eventually Spadra died out and then Pomona came years later
- 40:25but it was big enough for them to have their own small cemetery
- 40:27too. But same thing, everyone came
- 40:29and broke all the graves in like the 1970s and 80s.
- 40:33You think Spadra and Yorba knew each other?
- 40:36Honestly, we can look into their timeline because if they're
- 40:39around the same time, they're each other's neighbors to the
- 40:42North and South. Not by a great distance either.
- 40:45Yeah, no, they're right there. Like before freeways, think
- 40:47about how fast you can get there.
- 40:50Couple hours, no settlement. I would say within the hour.
- 40:53You got a fast enough horse, yeah?
- 40:56Can you write some fanfic? Oh my God, Dorvan's Badra
- 40:59homoerotic fanfic show the late 1800s.
- 41:02Heated. Heated.
- 41:05Ranch Heated. Ranchers.
- 41:08Heated ranchers. Wow.
- 41:10Because we were both farmers. So I mean right?
- 41:13True. They knew each.
- 41:13They knew the struggle. Heated farmery.
- 41:16Heated farmery. I'm writing it.
- 41:18I'm writing that down. Wow.
- 41:23Well, that was just a short episode for you guys to give you
- 41:25some more insight on the second-half of last week's
- 41:27episode. And who knows, we might come
- 41:29back next week with something just as scary or something
- 41:33completely different. We don't know.
- 41:35Check out the video if you haven't already.
- 41:37You'll you'll get to hear what we're talking about, but see
- 41:39what we're doing at that time. So kind of like today when I was
- 41:42trying to explain the hands, you had to see it you had.
- 41:46To be there one day we'll have a studio and cameras and this will
- 41:49be a visual podcast also. But until then, until then, just
- 41:52watch your Tik Toks and listen to our beautiful voices through
- 41:55your ears. You get to see us, we look
- 41:57pretty good. Yeah.
- 41:58Oh, Jerry especially. Did you see him in that video
- 42:00with that beanie? So handsome.
- 42:02Beanie. So handsome with the blindfold
- 42:04on. Oh my God.
- 42:06Stunning, stunning. Half his face covered.
- 42:09Oh gorgeous. Amazing, beautiful with a beanie
- 42:13and a hoodie. All we could see is his chin.
- 42:15Oh my God, I'm a sweating a face.
- 42:19Do you have a song recommendation for the week?
- 42:21Damn dude, I. Should we give 2 because we
- 42:24didn't give one last week? I'll give 2, but you go first.
- 42:28OK, the first one I'm recommending is, I know it's
- 42:36kind of meany a lot of people didn't like it when it drops,
- 42:39but that's because they don't get it.
- 42:40But I get it. It is Internet Girl by Cat's
- 42:43Eye. It just scratches my brain in a
- 42:45really good way. Eat zucchini, guys.
- 42:47Eat zucchini. I need to hear that.
- 42:49Have I heard that? I don't think I played it for
- 42:51you, and I highly doubt you would have stumbled across it on
- 42:54your own. Show me after.
- 43:00OK, I have my 2:00 but I'll finish no.
- 43:02I don't have my second one so you give me your first.
- 43:04One, OK, I'm going to go with and this was the song that I
- 43:07came. It came up randomly one night.
- 43:10It was like let's dance. I'm like, OK, cool.
- 43:12And then she put some those old romanticas, like those romantic
- 43:16old school songs from like the 60s and stuff.
- 43:18Oh. And this song just dude, in
- 43:20another lifetime, I was a 60 like AI was in a band in a 60s
- 43:26band, just singing romantic music and and and ballads.
- 43:30This one is Muriola Flor, Los Angeles Negros.
- 43:34Oh, you play that in the car, right?
- 43:36Yes, you know what? It's not that one.
- 43:39Never mind, it's evolvedere by Los Angeles Negros.
- 43:42OK, I mean, those could be your two songs.
- 43:46No, the other ones are really good though.
- 43:48OK OK. My second song is by Chilean boy
- 43:52group called Q Under Score R, and the song is Last Moon.
- 43:57It's pretty good. Yeah.
- 43:59They're like, I mean, they're not K pop because they're from
- 44:02Chile, but they're a boy group that sings and dances and the
- 44:05song is so good. That's cool, but it's in
- 44:06English. Which is weird.
- 44:07What was their group called again?
- 44:08QR like QR code but it's spelled Q under score ARE.
- 44:14QRE qar. No, I mean they say QR.
- 44:17But it's OK. That's how it's called.
- 44:19Gotcha. My second song is Homeland by
- 44:24Nini Music. It's folk metal.
- 44:27It's so good. Oh my God with.
- 44:29Folk. Metal, folk metal.
- 44:31It's, it's amazing. You have to listen to it.
- 44:33OK, Yeah, I'll give it a shot. Thank you guys for listening.
- 44:37Appreciate you for being here spending your Thursday scared.
- 44:41I'm still scared. I am to have been shipping this
- 44:44whole time. Oh, the thought of that cold
- 44:45hand. That's great.
- 44:46No, the thought of the stairs. The thought of climbing stairs.
- 44:50Oh fuck. All right, y'all have a great
- 44:54day, drink water. Yeah, stay hydrated and stay
- 44:56informed. Stay informed please.
- 44:58Please pay attention to what's going on.
- 45:00Be knowledgeable. Please.
- 45:02And be compassionate. Be a decent human being.
- 45:07That's all we ask, yeah. Bye bye.
