- Lucas: Luna, welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. I was thinking about our last episode about summer weather, and that made me think of something else that's perfect for this season. Luna: Oh, what's that? Something about the beach? Because I loved saying voy a la playa. Lucas: Close, but today let's focus on a place where you rest after a day at the beach: the bedroom. We'll learn a few items you see every day. Luna: Okay, I'm ready. My bedroom is my favorite room, so this is going to be useful. Lucas: Perfect. Our first word is la cama. That means the bed. La cama. Say it with me. Luna: La cama. La cama. That sounds nice. It's like a cozy word. Lucas: Exactly. You sleep on la cama. And when you wake up, you might see that you need to make la cama. Luna: Oh, I always need to make my bed in the morning. So that's hacer la cama, right? We learned that before. Lucas: Yes, hacer la cama is to make the bed. Good memory. Now, what do you put your head on in la cama? Luna: A pillow. That's la almohada, isn't it? Lucas: Exactly. La almohada. Repeat after me: la almohada. Luna: La almohada. That one took me a second, but I think I got it. La almohada. Lucas: Perfect. Now, on a cold night, you need something to keep you warm. What do you cover yourself with? Luna: A blanket. In Spanish, is that la manta? Lucas: Yes, la manta. Say it slowly: la manta. Luna: La manta. La manta. That's easy because it sounds like a mantilla or something. But it's just a blanket. Lucas: Well, la manta is a blanket, and it's very useful. So on la cama we have la almohada and la manta. Next to la cama, there's often a small table. Do you know that one? Luna: A nightstand? Maybe la mesita de noche? I've heard that somewhere. Lucas: Exactly. La mesita de noche. It's a little table for your things at night. Say it with me: la mesita de noche. Luna: La mesita de noche. That's a long one, but it sounds lovely. La mesita de noche. Lucas: And on la mesita de noche, you probably have an alarm clock to wake you up. That's el despertador. Luna: El despertador. So the alarm clock is a boy? Because it's el? Lucas: Yes, el despertador is masculine. And remember, we learned about masculine and feminine nouns in a past episode. So we say el despertador. Luna: Got it. So on la mesita de noche, I place el despertador. And then I sleep with la almohada and la manta. This is fun. Lucas: Let's put it all together in a tiny story. Imagine Luna, you wake up in the morning. You hear your el despertador. You sit up in la cama. You see your la almohada and la manta. You get out of bed and put your feet on the floor. Everything is in Spanish. Luna: Okay, let me try. I hear mi despertador. I sit up in mi cama. I look at mi almohada and mi manta. I get up from la cama. Hmm, I think I need to practice that more. Lucas: You did great. And remember, we can say mi cama, mi almohada, mi manta, mi mesita de noche, mi despertador. That's your stuff. Luna: Oh, that's a good reminder. So all these words can pair with mi. That makes it personal. I like that. Lucas: Before we keep going, I want to be honest about something. This show is completely free and without ads, and that's because a small group of listeners support us through a platform called buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. If you've been learning with us, that's where you can help if you want to. It literally keeps our lights on. Luna: Yeah, and I'm so grateful for those people. It means we can make these episodes without any ads interrupting. Thanks to them, we're all learning together. But let's get back to our bedroom words. Lucas: Right. Let's do a quick recall. What's the word for bed? Luna: That's la cama. Easy. Lucas: And for pillow? Luna: La almohada. I love that one. Lucas: And blanket? Luna: La manta. Got it. Lucas: Now, let's bring these into a real conversation. Imagine you're at a friend's house and they show you the guest room. They say, Aquí tienes la cama, la almohada, y la manta. Then they point to the nightstand: Y tu mesita de noche. But they forgot to mention the alarm clock. You can ask, ¿Dónde está el despertador? Luna: Oh, that's useful. So if I need the alarm clock, I ask ¿Dónde está el despertador? And if I need a blanket, I'd ask ¿Dónde está la manta? Because it's feminine, I say la manta. Lucas: Exactly. You're getting the gender agreement right. Great job. Now, let's practice putting these in a sentence. Try to say, I need a pillow. Luna: Necesito una almohada. I think that's right because we learned necesito earlier. Lucas: Perfect. And what about, I need a blanket? Luna: Necesito una manta. Because it's feminine, una. And for the alarm clock, it's masculine, so necesito un despertador. Lucas: You're a star. So with these five words, you can describe your whole bedroom. Let's do one more round. La cama, la almohada, la manta, la mesita de noche, el despertador. Luna: La cama, la almohada, la manta, la mesita de noche, el despertador. I feel like I can do this in my sleep. Lucas: That's the spirit. Remember, practice makes progress. Try to name these items when you're in your bedroom. And if you want to support us, you know where to find us. Luna: Yes, buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, but no pressure. Just keep learning with us. See you next time!
