- 0:45Speaker 4: for the Jersey. Mike's lunch break of the day and
- 0:48Speaker 4: Matt comes in with the bat.
- 0:49Speaker 1: That's right, And what do we all get? I got
- 0:51Speaker 1: the thirteen. We can say what we got. It's a
- 0:52Speaker 1: whole thing. We don't even need to read. We just
- 0:56Speaker 1: all right, where's Knifa? Get on it? Okay, it's it's Evan,
- 1:01Speaker 1: it's Paul, it's Fred, it's Matt and the booth, it's
- 1:03Speaker 1: Jordan on the cameras. We're here for the next two
- 1:06Speaker 1: hours talking patriots, but of course the big topic. Jared Duran,
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'm only kiding fun, but congratulations to him. He gets
- 1:17Speaker 1: up there, wax a two run home er gets m
- 1:19Speaker 1: v P. I mean, can this story.
- 1:21Speaker 5: Book much more? Right?
- 1:25Speaker 6: Did you watch the game?
- 1:26Speaker 1: I did up until after anybody at home run, and
- 1:29Speaker 1: then after he hit the home run, he said, I've
- 1:30Speaker 1: seen enough. Helps out Jared Duran's not gonna thank god. Yeah,
- 1:34Speaker 1: well he was terrible.
- 1:36Speaker 6: Well, at least he went after. Some of the other
- 1:38Speaker 6: people that pitched to Oi were basically lost game that
- 1:43Speaker 6: so at least he went after him. He didn't hit
- 1:44Speaker 6: a five hundred run off.
- 1:46Speaker 5: He's so good.
- 1:47Speaker 6: Yeah, at least he tried.
- 1:48Speaker 1: But anyway, congratulations with Jared Duran. What are we talking about?
- 1:53Speaker 1: We got six days until the public practice that we
- 1:57Speaker 1: will be live at with Patriots Unfiltered. Can't wait for that.
- 2:00Speaker 1: It's at eleven o'clock practice, right.
- 2:02Speaker 5: Yeah, so all practices right now are scheduled for eleven o'clock.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, how do you feel about that?
- 2:08Speaker 6: It's gonna be hot.
- 2:09Speaker 5: I mean, personally, I'd rather have it a little earlier,
- 2:11Speaker 5: but it's not about me personally, So I just curious
- 2:15Speaker 5: work for the team.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I'm just curious, like what's happening with the team, you know,
- 2:20Speaker 1: from seven o'clock till eleven o'clock. What are they doing?
- 2:23Speaker 4: Yeah, whereas before I think practices were usually like nine
- 2:26Speaker 4: to thirty, nine to thirty.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I also wonder too, it's just.
- 2:28Speaker 4: You know, you usually play at one pm, so you know,
- 2:31Speaker 4: moving it a little closer to when an actual game
- 2:32Speaker 4: time is Like, I get that, But I think Evan's
- 2:34Speaker 4: point of it being a lot hotter is something to watch,
- 2:37Speaker 4: especially with the weather we've had around here.
- 2:39Speaker 3: It's been it's been pretty oppressed.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'm not worried about that. I mean, that's good, right, it.
- 2:42Speaker 6: Could be good in terms of mental toughness already for.
- 2:45Speaker 1: This I'm just thinking about, like what's the day look
- 2:48Speaker 1: like for the team now.
- 2:50Speaker 5: I wonder if maybe they want to do a little
- 2:52Speaker 5: bit more pre practice film maybe And they know.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I can't left right that that wouldn't make sense to
- 2:57Speaker 1: lift before practice.
- 2:58Speaker 5: No, And I'm just fitball. I have no idea.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Well, it's interesting because I know I've heard that Mayo
- 3:03Speaker 4: is kind of an advocate of shorter meetings and you know,
- 3:06Speaker 4: so to extend the morning and it doesn't really make
- 3:09Speaker 4: sense to me to have like, let's have more meetings
- 3:10Speaker 4: before practice.
- 3:12Speaker 3: But you know, maybe it's a little later.
- 3:14Speaker 5: Start in the day. I don't know, And I wonder
- 3:15Speaker 5: if maybe it's less on the back end after practice.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Maybe that's changed. More film for practice and less after practice,
- 3:25Speaker 5: you know, on the same day, so maybe they getting
- 3:27Speaker 5: home earlier. I don't know. Now, I thank any and
- 3:30Speaker 5: all of your suggestions.
- 3:31Speaker 6: I don't kind of wonder my generation and younger not
- 3:35Speaker 6: exactly new people. I'm just putting that out there.
- 3:39Speaker 5: It's not going to.
- 3:41Speaker 1: For all. We know, there's studies, not just in football
- 3:45Speaker 1: but in all sports that players performed better in practice
- 3:49Speaker 1: a little later in the day. They're a little bit
- 3:51Speaker 1: more aware, sharper, you know, muscles have loosened up a
- 3:55Speaker 1: little bit more.
- 3:56Speaker 3: I don't know people still in your generation, Evan, I
- 3:59Speaker 3: mean there's got to be something like this is probably
- 4:00Speaker 3: for me.
- 4:00Speaker 4: I'd much rather get here at five am and leave
- 4:02Speaker 4: it like three pm than get here at like ten
- 4:05Speaker 4: and be here to like six or seven.
- 4:06Speaker 6: See like that I feel like is dead with the
- 4:09Speaker 6: with us gen xers in below, Like we're people that
- 4:15Speaker 6: like thrive at night, you know, Like that's because that's
- 4:19Speaker 6: just how we grew up.
- 4:20Speaker 5: But I think that's always been the case for young people. Yeah,
- 4:23Speaker 5: I mean when we're in college, fred, right, you know,
- 4:25Speaker 5: we didn't want to get up.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I wouldn't get up until eleven if I didn't have
- 4:28Speaker 1: to write, you know.
- 4:29Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Yeah, that's my fifteen year old right now.
- 4:31Speaker 4: He is like every morning, like, can you we get
- 4:33Speaker 4: a wellness check at eleven o'clock in the morning.
- 4:36Speaker 1: They can't get There was one class I had. It
- 4:38Speaker 1: was my junior fall junior year, and I had an
- 4:45Speaker 1: early class and at one point the professor turns me
- 4:48Speaker 1: aside because I wrote all the papers, you know, did
- 4:51Speaker 1: all the test, but I never went to class. So
- 4:54Speaker 1: he comes up to me, he says, you know, this
- 4:56Speaker 1: isn't a correspondence class. You need to be here. I
- 4:59Speaker 1: got a He gave me a D because I was
- 5:02Speaker 1: never there.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Who could have seen it coming.
- 5:06Speaker 6: I had a few of those myself.
- 5:08Speaker 3: If you never went, had you know what papers and
- 5:09Speaker 3: stuff to do?
- 5:10Speaker 1: Oh? I was syllab Yeah, they had something. I asked,
- 5:13Speaker 1: you know, classmates, hey, what it was? You know? But
- 5:17Speaker 1: he was like, no, you're you're never here. You get
- 5:19Speaker 1: a D.
- 5:19Speaker 6: I had a friend and well he didn't fail me
- 5:21Speaker 6: that I thought. I dropped the class showed up on
- 5:25Speaker 6: the for the just for the final. It was like
- 5:27Speaker 6: an optional.
- 5:28Speaker 3: It was class class.
- 5:30Speaker 6: Well, this was an optional and obviously I think I
- 5:34Speaker 6: went to class for the mid term and for the
- 5:36Speaker 6: final and that was it.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm crazy.
- 5:38Speaker 3: I don't know. I've never minded getting up early.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Maybe that's just the way I am.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I am, Well, you're chippy, you're yeah, I get a.
- 5:46Speaker 5: Early bird, gets worm, right, that's how I am now.
- 5:49Speaker 5: But I was just like Fred. I didn't want any
- 5:53Speaker 5: part of early classes in college.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:55Speaker 3: My first year of college, I did eight, nine, ten
- 5:57Speaker 3: those were my classes. So you'd be done and I
- 5:59Speaker 3: was done by ten fifty.
- 6:00Speaker 1: That was great.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I loved it.
- 6:01Speaker 5: Yeah, we had to do that, like you know, you
- 6:03Speaker 5: know during baseball. That's sure, that's what you have to
- 6:07Speaker 5: front load, front load your schedule. But of course they
- 6:10Speaker 5: had advisors and whatnot, you know, to do all of
- 6:12Speaker 5: this for us. No, they didn't, that's okay. But we
- 6:16Speaker 5: did have to frontload our schedules unless you wanted to
- 6:18Speaker 5: miss all your classes.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah, you mean during the day.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Yeah, you had to get them as early as you could.
- 6:24Speaker 5: So when we were leaving travel to me, like eleven
- 6:27Speaker 5: o'clock for a game or something. Yeah, some people chose
- 6:32Speaker 5: to go to their classes.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Where your hall of Fame ring.
- 6:36Speaker 5: No, I don't have a Hall of Fame ring.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Friend, they didn't give you the ring.
- 6:39Speaker 3: No, just the bust.
- 6:41Speaker 1: So you get into the Hall of Fame, you don't
- 6:42Speaker 1: get a ring.
- 6:43Speaker 5: No ring.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Why can we change that car.
- 6:48Speaker 5: To petition it?
- 6:48Speaker 1: I think it was an oversight. Are you sure? Yeah,
- 6:50Speaker 1: because I think Maury got one, didn't He's not in
- 6:53Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame. No, he's not. Okay.
- 6:55Speaker 5: The only hall of fame he's in is the one
- 6:57Speaker 5: he tried to force his way into on Tom Brady night.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Okay, somebody will tell him and he'll he'll text us.
- 7:03Speaker 1: All right, all right, So yes, training camp, we will
- 7:09Speaker 1: be live at probably ten on Wednesday. We're gonna have
- 7:15Speaker 1: just as we've done every year, we'll have a wrap
- 7:18Speaker 1: up podcast after every practice. Paul and Duce and Evan
- 7:22Speaker 1: will be doing written wrap ups for the website. You know,
- 7:26Speaker 1: so all the stuff that you've been used to will
- 7:29Speaker 1: be that and more. So. I can't wait. Yeah, it's
- 7:32Speaker 1: gonna be cool, good.
- 7:34Speaker 5: And we're gonna do You said on Tuesday, you told everybody.
- 7:37Speaker 5: We're gonna do live shows first four days of Yes,
- 7:41Speaker 5: so we're gonna be We'll have our Sunday.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah, next week, we'll have our normal show on Tuesday,
- 7:46Speaker 1: and then we'll be live Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I
- 7:50Speaker 1: don't know if I'm giving out a state secret, but
- 7:52Speaker 1: I think Saturday is off and then we'll be live
- 7:54Speaker 1: again Sunday.
- 7:55Speaker 5: We've announced the dates.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, okay, if you're.
- 7:58Speaker 5: A fan, you know now now when the Patriots will
- 8:01Speaker 5: be practicing when it will be open for the public.
- 8:03Speaker 1: So Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday we'll be live with
- 8:07Speaker 1: Patriots unfiltered. So can't wait.
- 8:10Speaker 5: So when you were talking about, you know, back to
- 8:12Speaker 5: why they may have decided to do eleven o'clock instead
- 8:15Speaker 5: of what we've been accustomed to lately, nine or nine
- 8:18Speaker 5: thirty whatever, and you talked about the differences in the
- 8:23Speaker 5: time of day, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's
- 8:26Speaker 5: something like that. They've had some studies done or whatever.
- 8:29Speaker 5: And I also noticed, and I think Mike Reese wrote
- 8:32Speaker 5: about this in his notes either the last week or
- 8:35Speaker 5: the week before about that training camp. Staple of the
- 8:39Speaker 5: in stadium practice with season ticket holders isn't going to
- 8:42Speaker 5: happen this year. It's going to be different. It's not
- 8:44Speaker 5: going to be in the stadium. I wonder if they
- 8:47Speaker 5: just they don't want to have a night I mean,
- 8:49Speaker 5: I think they talked about scheduling conflicts, and they haven't.
- 8:52Speaker 5: I think it's more that is it just because I
- 8:55Speaker 5: was wondering if maybe like they've done some search on
- 8:58Speaker 5: it and the night practice and then that kind of
- 9:01Speaker 5: kills the next day.
- 9:02Speaker 1: It was strictly scheduling, because I remember they're scrambling to
- 9:05Speaker 1: find a day or night where they could do that,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and it just wasn't working out between the revs and
- 9:11Speaker 1: concerts and whatever else they got going on here. They
- 9:15Speaker 1: could not find a good night for.
- 9:17Speaker 5: That because I can't. I mean, you correct me if
- 9:19Speaker 5: I'm wrong, Freddy, I don't remember any year that we
- 9:21Speaker 5: did not have that now, since we started it, since
- 9:24Speaker 5: we've done it.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Yeah, do you feel like Bill's like we could have
- 9:26Speaker 3: just not done it?
- 9:27Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 9:30Speaker 3: Conflict.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I left for nothing, for nothing.
- 9:36Speaker 5: There was the first year that was it was actually
- 9:39Speaker 5: on a Saturday afternoon. They had it in the stadium.
- 9:43Speaker 5: That my first year when I came to work for you.
- 9:45Speaker 5: And that was the day Ted Johnson tore his biceps.
- 9:49Speaker 5: I was the only one here, Okay, I.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Was like Son.
- 9:51Speaker 5: I thought it was gonna be like a nice, easy
- 9:53Speaker 5: Sunday Saturday in and out.
- 9:55Speaker 1: And I don't know again if I'm not giving away
- 9:58Speaker 1: state secrets, but uh, we saw the list of alumni alumni,
- 10:03Speaker 1: not players, but alumni that will be here to sign
- 10:06Speaker 1: during practices and Lenny Saint Jane No, but Danny A. Moondola,
- 10:13Speaker 1: Corey Dylon nice like wow.
- 10:16Speaker 5: I so Matt and I no socks have have sort
- 10:19Speaker 5: of discussed trying to get Corey Dyllon in particular.
- 10:23Speaker 1: But those two paths for the past.
- 10:24Speaker 5: The paths for the past. I think Corey Dylan will
- 10:26Speaker 5: be a fascinating again podcast. So if that's what we're
- 10:29Speaker 5: going to try to do. Now, they have some commitments
- 10:32Speaker 5: and might not work out. I don't think they're all
- 10:35Speaker 5: of those guys will be in town for a long time.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Right, they may not have time.
- 10:38Speaker 5: It might be.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Corey Dillon, Paul will be like a distance by. You
- 10:43Speaker 1: know that you're gonna sit case.
- 10:45Speaker 5: It'll come up. I'll say, I've been here for twenty
- 10:47Speaker 5: five years. You're the only guy I've ever afraid of, right,
- 10:52Speaker 5: and that's that's a James Harrison. He never asked me
- 10:56Speaker 5: to lotion up his back.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Okay, all right, you telling me that? Uh, Corey Dillon did. No,
- 11:03Speaker 1: he just scared. You know, he's a scary. He was scary.
- 11:06Speaker 5: He was a scary, dude. Have you heard that day
- 11:08Speaker 5: that he said, I don't give it f go ask Bill? Like,
- 11:12Speaker 5: I was like, okay, they seem like a change guy.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Now though I haven't really heard him talk.
- 11:17Speaker 4: I just I'm hopeful that he has a perspective. I
- 11:21Speaker 4: think he's the most interesting of all those people though,
- 11:23Speaker 4: just to hear his perspective on that season and what
- 11:26Speaker 4: it was like now that he's gotten away from it,
- 11:29Speaker 4: and you know what that season and how were you
- 11:31Speaker 4: guys surprised how quick it fell apart for him to
- 11:33Speaker 4: like I remember, like, oh four, he's like unstoppable.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Six it's over. It's over painful to watch him run.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Well, I mean that's the life of a running back.
- 11:42Speaker 5: That was part of it. Fred's Fred's probably got the
- 11:44Speaker 5: biggest part of it. But I think those kinds.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Of guys, Yeah, he got what he wanted.
- 11:49Speaker 5: He got what he wanted so he came in here,
- 11:51Speaker 5: he had something to prove, he had a chip on
- 11:53Speaker 5: his shoulder, had an unbelievable season. They gave him the contract.
- 11:56Speaker 5: He said, see you, Yeah, Randy most did the same thing.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:59Speaker 5: Yeah, And I know that we can't say that anymore
- 12:01Speaker 5: because suddenly Randy Moss is like this mythical figure in
- 12:05Speaker 5: Patriot's history. He came in, had something to prove, had
- 12:08Speaker 5: a great year, got a contract, went so up.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Randy Moss admitted that, he admitted that, like, I didn't
- 12:15Speaker 1: understand what I had. So, you know, maybe Corey Dillon.
- 12:19Speaker 5: It happens a lot with those kinds of guys with
- 12:21Speaker 5: immense talent that are sort of I don't want to
- 12:25Speaker 5: say troubled, but because I don't think that Randy Moss's
- 12:28Speaker 5: trouble and Corey Dillon's trouble were the same. Randy Moss
- 12:31Speaker 5: was never really an off field trouble, you know, of
- 12:34Speaker 5: any significance. Corey Dillon was in Cincinnati and prior to
- 12:38Speaker 5: him being in the NFL, he had a I mean,
- 12:40Speaker 5: I know Moss had his issues, you know, in high school,
- 12:43Speaker 5: but different kind of trouble. But I think that they,
- 12:46Speaker 5: you know, had reputations as sort of being malcontents and whatnot.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Generally that resurfaces at some point.
- 12:53Speaker 4: His body type kind of fit into it too, though,
- 12:55Speaker 4: like as a big running back bit and you kind
- 12:57Speaker 4: of let it go down. He started to slow down speed.
- 13:00Speaker 4: You know, he was so good in different players.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Plus you know the grind of being a pro athlete,
- 13:06Speaker 1: like once you start questioning it, you're pretty much done.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I mean, Parcel said, once you start talking about retirement,
- 13:13Speaker 1: you might as well retire. You're out, You're done, you know.
- 13:16Speaker 1: So it's really it's a really hard life.
- 13:18Speaker 5: You don't wear and tear too. Like he was the
- 13:20Speaker 5: whole team in Cincinnati and here, yeah, yeah, he didn't
- 13:25Speaker 5: make a lot of guys miss. He ran over you.
- 13:27Speaker 1: I mean, Patriots would get a ten eight point lead
- 13:30Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter and they'd start running him and
- 13:33Speaker 1: it was just game over. It was game over.
- 13:35Speaker 4: That was that Colts playoff game where it was just
- 13:37Speaker 4: like you got no chance with this guy now on
- 13:39Speaker 4: the page, Like it was already hard enough with the
- 13:40Speaker 4: Patriots defense, and now with that weather giant weather toy.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Freen he don't want to be tackling.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Being a safety and seeing that coming at you forget it.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Yeah right, Bob Sander didn't care. That's why he was just.
- 13:56Speaker 5: Watching his knees.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Yeah, hurt himself too.
- 13:59Speaker 6: I just always like he's muddied, like.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah, those are the pictures, iconic pictures yep, back
- 14:06Speaker 1: when we had grass yep. All right, So so training
- 14:11Speaker 1: camp coming up the other one. I know, it's kind
- 14:14Speaker 1: of like beating a dead horse. Before the draft was
- 14:18Speaker 1: which quarterback of the page is gonna draft? Now it's
- 14:20Speaker 1: when do you start? Drake May? But you know your
- 14:23Speaker 1: guy yesterday, Paul. I don't know what straw Man he
- 14:27Speaker 1: was talking about, but I don't know who the person
- 14:30Speaker 1: is that's saying you have to start the guy on
- 14:34Speaker 1: day one. I don't know who's saying that, but according
- 14:38Speaker 1: to Felger, there's somebody out there who's who's Felger saying
- 14:42Speaker 1: is an idiot, And I'm who was saying you have
- 14:46Speaker 1: to start him in day one. I'm on record saying
- 14:49Speaker 1: I think he will start on day one because I
- 14:53Speaker 1: think he's going to be ready and all that. But
- 14:56Speaker 1: I don't hear anyone saying you have a quarterback like that,
- 14:59Speaker 1: you have to start him right away.
- 15:01Speaker 5: And so I'm going to push back on. I totally
- 15:04Speaker 5: agree with you on that. You know, Mike was at
- 15:07Speaker 5: his best in terms of manipulating an argument that didn't
- 15:10Speaker 5: really exist, Like he's very good at it, and he
- 15:13Speaker 5: was very good at it yesterday with you a Boy.
- 15:17Speaker 5: Alex and McCarthy were on with him, and he fred
- 15:21Speaker 5: just absolutely perfectly encapsulated his whole argument. He's arguing with
- 15:25Speaker 5: the ether like nobody is saying he has to start
- 15:29Speaker 5: week one otherwise he can't develop. He can't get that
- 15:32Speaker 5: ever anywhere, No guys like Peyton Manning have said they
- 15:35Speaker 5: felt like they benefited from playing right away. No one
- 15:38Speaker 5: has said you have to play week one whether you're
- 15:40Speaker 5: ready or not. No one has said that. That was
- 15:42Speaker 5: his argument yesterday. So whatever. But the other the other
- 15:46Speaker 5: part of it is like, wat, I was busting. You
- 15:53Speaker 5: don't think I was letting. You think I was letting
- 15:54Speaker 5: that go. I was busting the whole ride home. So
- 16:01Speaker 5: the other the other side of this is like you
- 16:03Speaker 5: can't play him until you get this. This this like
- 16:07Speaker 5: you can't put him behind this offensive line was McCarthy's
- 16:10Speaker 5: big thing. You know, Alex caught some shrapnel in this
- 16:14Speaker 5: argument too. I don't think he was quite as strong
- 16:16Speaker 5: on it as as McCarthy was.
- 16:17Speaker 6: Well, he tends to play the fence.
- 16:21Speaker 5: Shots taken, so like, okay, so just out of curiosity,
- 16:27Speaker 5: what if you don't get the offensive line straightened out,
- 16:29Speaker 5: he doesn't play. It's going to play, so next year
- 16:31Speaker 5: if the offensive line or is it okay because he's
- 16:34Speaker 5: year two, Well, he's never played so much that he developed.
- 16:37Speaker 1: He's never seen the speed of the NFL.
- 16:39Speaker 5: Like I just and Felger eventually got to rationality when
- 16:43Speaker 5: he said, he goes it's a case by case thing.
- 16:46Speaker 5: Of course the guy is ready, of course, then he
- 16:48Speaker 5: should play. Whether or not the offensive line is ready,
- 16:51Speaker 5: or whether or not you feel like he has suitable
- 16:54Speaker 5: weapons to deal with you got it. At some point
- 16:56Speaker 5: figure out if the guy can play.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Right, My prediction is based on believing that it will
- 17:02Speaker 1: be obvious that he is the best quarterback on your
- 17:06Speaker 1: team and he's ready. That's what it's based on. If
- 17:09Speaker 1: that's not true, then okay, let's talk about when we
- 17:13Speaker 1: start him. But that's what I believe is going to.
- 17:15Speaker 5: And that was the flip side where it was McCarthy
- 17:18Speaker 5: and you can make fun of your guy because it
- 17:20Speaker 5: was more Matt who I really like. I did a
- 17:22Speaker 5: show with him before. I want to He's very tall.
- 17:26Speaker 1: He doesn't sound like he's tall, you know how like
- 17:29Speaker 1: people sound a certain way.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Yeah, but he was like, even if it's obvious that
- 17:36Speaker 5: may is better than Brissette, I don't want him playing, Like, Okay,
- 17:40Speaker 5: I don't really understand. I don't get that argument.
- 17:43Speaker 6: Well, I think his argument. I'm not making it for him.
- 17:45Speaker 6: But I just was listening to because because Barth was
- 17:48Speaker 6: on size listening and he he was just saying that
- 17:51Speaker 6: if the offensive line is league worst like it was
- 17:56Speaker 6: last year, that he would have trepidation about putting Drake
- 17:59Speaker 6: Maye in there behind him. So if he's the best
- 18:02Speaker 6: quarterback in camp but chokes the corps for as a
- 18:05Speaker 6: torn stile at left tackle, you know or do you.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Have on paper? Last year's line was the league worst. Okay,
- 18:14Speaker 1: that's a fact on the you know, according to the
- 18:18Speaker 1: according to they were the worst. Would you not put
- 18:24Speaker 1: Drake may behind last year's line? I would? It depends
- 18:30Speaker 1: on you would put him behind? Like was it that bad? Yeah?
- 18:34Speaker 5: I want him to play.
- 18:36Speaker 1: It was the worst in the league. But that said,
- 18:39Speaker 1: was it that bad way you couldn't risk the guy's life.
- 18:42Speaker 5: I think, yeah, I just think that some of that
- 18:44Speaker 5: stuff gets overblown, not about the performance, but about the like, well,
- 18:48Speaker 5: he's going to get hurt, Like, yeah, any sack can
- 18:51Speaker 5: result in an injury, And I just don't think that
- 18:55Speaker 5: you can operate your team under the premise of I
- 18:58Speaker 5: don't want him to get hurt. Obviously, no one wants
- 19:00Speaker 5: to see players get hurt, except for Fred for all
- 19:02Speaker 5: the opponents.
- 19:03Speaker 1: That's true.
- 19:04Speaker 5: No one wants to see guys get hurt. But you
- 19:06Speaker 5: can't make every decision based on fear of injury.
- 19:10Speaker 1: No, I think it's.
- 19:11Speaker 6: Less about injury for me, and it's more about his
- 19:14Speaker 6: internal clock, his footwork.
- 19:16Speaker 5: Like, I'm not bad habits.
- 19:17Speaker 6: He's two hundred and twenty five pounds, so I'm not
- 19:19Speaker 6: too worried about him breaking physically from that. But in
- 19:24Speaker 6: terms of the bad habits creeping back into his play
- 19:27Speaker 6: that we saw in North Carolina, he looked without contact,
- 19:30Speaker 6: He looked very tied together in the spring. If that
- 19:34Speaker 6: stacks into the summer and he is mechanically sound for
- 19:38Speaker 6: most of the summer, and then you throw him behind
- 19:40Speaker 6: a bad offensive line and now all of a sudden
- 19:41Speaker 6: it starts to unravel. Sure that that would I think
- 19:44Speaker 6: it would be a bigger fear than you know, he's
- 19:46Speaker 6: going to break.
- 19:46Speaker 5: Ribs or just when I would change my view is
- 19:49Speaker 5: if Evans scenario unfolds. Well, now it's a development thing.
- 19:53Speaker 5: He's not ready mentally, right, So now I'm okay, Yeah,
- 19:56Speaker 5: But it's not because I'm afraid to put him behind
- 19:59Speaker 5: that offensive line. I'm afraid if I put him behind
- 20:02Speaker 5: that offensive line, he's not going to develop properly because
- 20:04Speaker 5: he's going to rely on his athleticism. He's not going
- 20:07Speaker 5: to go through his progressions. He's not going to learn
- 20:09Speaker 5: as much as he should. That's a different argument, but
- 20:12Speaker 5: this whole thing, like I can't have him, But that
- 20:14Speaker 5: was the whole thing yesterday. I can't have him behind
- 20:16Speaker 5: this offensive line. I don't care how much better he
- 20:18Speaker 5: is than Bresett, And like, well, what if he's out
- 20:20Speaker 5: there and he's playing well behind that offensive line, don't
- 20:23Speaker 5: doesn't that make you even more and excited for that?
- 20:26Speaker 1: What about his teammates? Wait a minute, Well, we got
- 20:28Speaker 1: a guy here who's a lot better play him, you know,
- 20:32Speaker 1: I anyway, this is going to be I know, I know,
- 20:36Speaker 1: just the same way that people are like, it's not
- 20:37Speaker 1: all you're going to talk about who are they going
- 20:38Speaker 1: to draft?
- 20:39Speaker 5: Yeah, because Drake May.
- 20:40Speaker 1: You know, we had the third pick in the draft
- 20:43Speaker 1: and it was a big story. Now yeah we have
- 20:45Speaker 1: the guy and this is a big story. So we
- 20:47Speaker 1: are going to talk about when do you start him?
- 20:50Speaker 4: I mean, I just think he has to play this year,
- 20:52Speaker 4: like I don't know about week one or something like
- 20:54Speaker 4: if you get through this year and he hasn't really
- 20:56Speaker 4: seen any quality time, and you know, comparing it to
- 20:59Speaker 4: last year's line, like last year's line was so connected
- 21:01Speaker 4: to last year's team too, so it's not just like
- 21:04Speaker 4: this offensive line in a bubble and they're gonna go
- 21:06Speaker 4: from last year to this year and it's the same thing,
- 21:07Speaker 4: like you know, for better or worse.
- 21:09Speaker 3: I mean, they could be worse for all I know.
- 21:10Speaker 4: But you're talking about a new offensive system, you're talking
- 21:13Speaker 4: about a couple of new players. You're talking about some
- 21:15Speaker 4: players who are actually pretty talented that that probably should
- 21:17Speaker 4: have been better last year. So you know, I just
- 21:20Speaker 4: if they get to the point where it's the middle
- 21:21Speaker 4: of the season and then the offensive line is still
- 21:23Speaker 4: so terrible, then I think that that's not as much
- 21:26Speaker 4: an in Diamond on Drake may as the coaching staff
- 21:29Speaker 4: and what they did this offseason. You have to protect him,
- 21:32Speaker 4: but I just I think you have to get him
- 21:33Speaker 4: in there and play, and if he doesn't play this year,
- 21:35Speaker 4: it's a disappointment to me.
- 21:36Speaker 1: And by the way, when he does get in whenever
- 21:39Speaker 1: that is, let him play, don't micro manage him right,
- 21:42Speaker 1: let him air it out if he has to, let
- 21:44Speaker 1: him take a shot.
- 21:45Speaker 4: And that's what I saw in OTA's It's just like
- 21:48Speaker 4: it doesn't look like he's going to be like what
- 21:50Speaker 4: can I do?
- 21:50Speaker 3: Coach like it seems to me and maybe I'm wrong, but.
- 21:54Speaker 4: Like he's going to be himself like and we saw
- 21:56Speaker 4: elements of that kind of personality coming through of what
- 21:58Speaker 4: he does.
- 21:59Speaker 3: I mean, you saw it in college. You're seeing it
- 22:01Speaker 3: in OTAs Like he seems like.
- 22:03Speaker 4: The kind of player to me that isn't you know,
- 22:06Speaker 4: isn't going to be terrified of like making a mistake
- 22:10Speaker 4: like I think he's. I just hope the coaching staff,
- 22:11Speaker 4: to your point, Fred is going to give him a
- 22:13Speaker 4: little leash to.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Bring that out of him.
- 22:15Speaker 4: To let him make those mistakes so that in year
- 22:18Speaker 4: two and three play breaks down and he wants to
- 22:20Speaker 4: try some crazy pass while he's you know, inverted or
- 22:23Speaker 4: whatever like that, He's still going to try it.
- 22:25Speaker 6: You know, he's gonna left handed, like he didn't girl.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Left handed, you know, like like I like I want it,
- 22:31Speaker 4: Like that's fine, Like I don't want that to be
- 22:32Speaker 4: the basis of the offense. And I think people are
- 22:34Speaker 4: so enamored of that stuff because of what Patrick.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Mahomes can do.
- 22:38Speaker 4: But I want him to just have that confidence to
- 22:40Speaker 4: be like, that's how we got to win games. You're
- 22:41Speaker 4: gonna have to make some of those plays with Mike
- 22:43Speaker 4: if this is going to be a suit. I think
- 22:44Speaker 4: he's got to play, and not right away. He doesn't
- 22:47Speaker 4: have to be right away. When he's ready. I want
- 22:49Speaker 4: him to play.
- 22:50Speaker 5: But I just look at it as if you're in
- 22:53Speaker 5: a rebuilding process, and I think we can all agree
- 22:55Speaker 5: they are, like you want to spend his little time
- 23:00Speaker 5: as possible rebuilding. You want to build, and you want
- 23:03Speaker 5: to get where you want to go. So let's just say,
- 23:06Speaker 5: for argument's sake, he doesn't play at all this year.
- 23:09Speaker 5: I feel like you're starting basically at square one next year.
- 23:13Speaker 5: It's a last year. And they were outliers. They're like Mahomes,
- 23:17Speaker 5: you know, stepped in and was MVP caliber his first
- 23:20Speaker 5: year as a starter. Tom Brady won the Super Bowl
- 23:23Speaker 5: his first year as a starter. So like, I'm not
- 23:25Speaker 5: saying that it has to be that way, but more
- 23:28Speaker 5: likely to me is it's Jordan Love who kind of
- 23:33Speaker 5: sucked for half the year and got hot late in
- 23:36Speaker 5: the year and played reasonably well in the playoffs. But
- 23:38Speaker 5: what did they go? Nine and eight? Yeah, you know,
- 23:40Speaker 5: and I'm not saying that none of us wouldn't take
- 23:42Speaker 5: nine and eight, but that's more You're more likely Aaron
- 23:46Speaker 5: Rodgers wasn't great after sitting for three years because he
- 23:50Speaker 5: hadn't played right, Like, how could he just step in
- 23:54Speaker 5: and be great? He had never played again. There are outliers,
- 23:57Speaker 5: I understand that, But more likely it's the rookie year
- 24:01Speaker 5: next year. If Drake made doesn't play it all this year, right,
- 24:04Speaker 5: that's the more likely scenario. And then you have to
- 24:07Speaker 5: wait two more years before you can possibly think you're
- 24:10Speaker 5: going to be doing and then.
- 24:11Speaker 6: You get start getting into the rookie contract timeline, and
- 24:13Speaker 6: now all of a sudden you're in your three of
- 24:15Speaker 6: his rookie deal and you have less of a leash.
- 24:17Speaker 6: But Felger, he took it full circle and actually kind
- 24:21Speaker 6: of counted his own argument with Josh Allen, who played
- 24:23Speaker 6: his rookie year when he probably wasn't ready to play
- 24:26Speaker 6: his rookie year.
- 24:27Speaker 5: I actually gave him credit for that for actually bringing
- 24:29Speaker 5: a few up that actually played as rookies. It didn't
- 24:32Speaker 5: get broken. Guys that weren't necessarily ready to play right
- 24:35Speaker 5: away and didn't get broken.
- 24:37Speaker 6: That's to your point, Paul of Josh Allen had more
- 24:40Speaker 6: interceptions and touchdowns his rookie year and looked like a
- 24:43Speaker 6: like he was in over his head. But that was
- 24:45Speaker 6: a building block for him to eventually get to worry.
- 24:48Speaker 6: But his team.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Knew he's fine, He's going to be fine. We just
- 24:51Speaker 1: got to keep working with him. They knew, they knew
- 24:54Speaker 1: what they had, just like the Colts knew what they
- 24:56Speaker 1: had with Peyton Manning who had more interceptions into touchdowns
- 25:00Speaker 1: his first year. They know what they have and what
- 25:03Speaker 1: I always believed with Lawrence, he's a good quarterback. I
- 25:06Speaker 1: don't care if Urban Meyers, his coach, or whatever happened
- 25:09Speaker 1: down there, even what's happening now. I know he's good.
- 25:12Speaker 1: I take him on my team, you know.
- 25:15Speaker 4: So you know, it's kind of funny. I can't get
- 25:16Speaker 4: this out of my head, and I'm sorry for even
- 25:18Speaker 4: bringing it up. But like people are so terrified of
- 25:22Speaker 4: Drake May getting hurt. I'm like, what if he started
- 25:24Speaker 4: and he gets hurt and he looks good, plays like
- 25:26Speaker 4: three four games like Burrow did, and then all of
- 25:28Speaker 4: a sudden, you're back in the top five again next year,
- 25:30Speaker 4: and you're like, man, we got Drake May coming back,
- 25:32Speaker 4: and we got a top three pick again.
- 25:33Speaker 5: Like I would much rather have a situation like Anthony
- 25:36Speaker 5: Richardson last year, who was just another one that your
- 25:38Speaker 5: boy Barthy brought up yesterday. Yeah, and he didn't say
- 25:43Speaker 5: anything wrong. I just looked at it a whole different
- 25:44Speaker 5: way than Alex did. Yeah, he went out and got hurt.
- 25:47Speaker 5: He didn't get hurt because he was behind a bad
- 25:49Speaker 5: offensive line, by the way. He got hurt because he
- 25:51Speaker 5: runs the ball like a fullback. And he took a
- 25:54Speaker 5: lot of hits in four games. But he got a
- 25:58Speaker 5: lot of experience. He played four games and get some experience.
- 26:02Speaker 5: So in other words, why does him sitting out the
- 26:06Speaker 5: last you know, thirteen games not benefit him. But if
- 26:10Speaker 5: Drake may sits out all seventeen, it benefits him. Because
- 26:14Speaker 5: one got hurt and one didn't, what's the difference. He
- 26:17Speaker 5: was watching and learning from the sideline, just the way
- 26:20Speaker 5: that you think it should be. Right Suddenly, because Richardson
- 26:25Speaker 5: got hurt, he got a chance to play. Andy got
- 26:28Speaker 5: hurt and he got a chance to watch and learn.
- 26:30Speaker 5: What's wrong with that? So like, it's not the end
- 26:33Speaker 5: of the world if the guy gets hurt. Even as
- 26:35Speaker 5: you brought up Mike Burrow tore his a c L,
- 26:38Speaker 5: a significant injury that's really affected his career.
- 26:41Speaker 3: We've got Jamar Chase and they went to the Super Bowl.
- 26:43Speaker 6: He's stay healthy.
- 26:45Speaker 5: So you want injury after injury occurring.
- 26:49Speaker 1: But so that's going to be an ongoing topic. I'm
- 26:51Speaker 1: sure it is what it means. But then this morning
- 26:55Speaker 1: on one of your shows, the conversation started out, I
- 27:00Speaker 1: guess ESPN released top one hundred athletes or something like that,
- 27:04Speaker 1: and I haven't seen the list. I can't comment on it.
- 27:06Speaker 1: They said it was a terrible list. But the conversation
- 27:09Speaker 1: morphed into players who were overrated or underachievers, and they
- 27:14Speaker 1: started talking about quarterbacks and I forget who said it,
- 27:18Speaker 1: but I think more than one agreed. Oh, Josh Allen
- 27:20Speaker 1: is overrated? Why well, he can't beat Patrick Holmes.
- 27:25Speaker 5: I saw Danie Rolosky had coronary Yeah.
- 27:28Speaker 1: And Jana Olaski came to Josh Allen's defense.
- 27:31Speaker 6: Yeah, you might be confusing.
- 27:34Speaker 1: You know, I'll borrow the word from Feller. That's a
- 27:36Speaker 1: stupid moronic argument that just because he can't get past
- 27:41Speaker 1: the greatest quarterback in the game today doesn't mean he's
- 27:44Speaker 1: over overrated. I mean, come on, what are we doing here?
- 27:48Speaker 6: So the Jeremy Fowler came out with his top ten
- 27:51Speaker 6: positional list yep, and I actually tweeted the Patriots that
- 27:54Speaker 6: got mentioned in it right before the show, and an
- 27:58Speaker 6: anonymous all executive I forget if it was AFC or
- 28:02Speaker 6: to say NFL executive said that Josh Allen is one
- 28:05Speaker 6: of the most overrated players in the league. And the
- 28:08Speaker 6: reason that that was given was that it was mental
- 28:11Speaker 6: like pre snap, you know, manipulation of defenses and you
- 28:15Speaker 6: know being you know, the the Brady Chess match.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Yep.
- 28:18Speaker 5: It's not overly accurate. In Orlowsky I thought was going to.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Have like he's not perfect. He I think one of
- 28:24Speaker 1: his weaknesses is his accuracy at times, not like it
- 28:27Speaker 1: used to be. But he's still like top five quarterback
- 28:31Speaker 1: in the NFL.
- 28:32Speaker 5: Yeah, it's probably higher than that, probably top three. Yeah,
- 28:36Speaker 5: I mean to me, it's a silly argument to say that,
- 28:40Speaker 5: Like he hasn't won a Super Bowl, so he's overrated, right,
- 28:44Speaker 5: like so.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Is Dan Marine.
- 28:45Speaker 4: It was everybody the Brady Cleanhouse over twenty years, Like
- 28:48Speaker 4: Philip Rivers was overrated, Peyton Maning was over I think
- 28:51Speaker 4: is that guy now.
- 28:52Speaker 6: On that list? I think it was, off the top
- 28:55Speaker 6: of my head, Holmes won obviously, Burrow.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Jackson.
- 29:01Speaker 6: There's one other guy that they had up there that
- 29:03Speaker 6: that was high. I'll look it up in a second,
- 29:06Speaker 6: but I think Allen was like five. I think Lamar
- 29:09Speaker 6: was four. And there was another quarterback that they had
- 29:11Speaker 6: above Lamar. And yeah, he said his most overrated quarterback
- 29:16Speaker 6: in the league. Is what the executive quote was? You know,
- 29:18Speaker 6: each guy has a blurb and then the blurb is
- 29:20Speaker 6: like a quote from one of the executives that was pulled.
- 29:23Speaker 6: And yes, Orlovsky had an aneurysm about it. But the
- 29:27Speaker 6: biggest thing, I you know, from us, you know, my
- 29:31Speaker 6: side of the street. Right, Like most people that I
- 29:33Speaker 6: see that you know, nerve film nerds and analytic nerds
- 29:36Speaker 6: rate him as Allan is probably like the second or
- 29:39Speaker 6: third best quarterback in the league behind my home.
- 29:41Speaker 5: So let me just throw this out real quick. Who
- 29:45Speaker 5: would you rather have Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Josh Allen?
- 29:49Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I mean I love I love Lamar Jackson.
- 29:52Speaker 3: That Sophie's choice.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Jackson does win, he's choosing between you, But no, no, no.
- 29:57Speaker 5: I love me too. I love Lamon Jackson. There's no
- 30:01Speaker 5: question in my mind I would rather have Josh Allen
- 30:04Speaker 5: because I think he win, He can win in more
- 30:06Speaker 5: ways than Lamar Jackson.
- 30:08Speaker 6: Yeah, it's probably easier to build around Josh Allen, So
- 30:11Speaker 6: for that reason, I'd probably say Josh Allen. But the
- 30:14Speaker 6: executive that said pre snap he doesn't dominate in that phase.
- 30:18Speaker 6: It's like, okay, but there's nobody else that does the
- 30:20Speaker 6: post snap stuff that he does.
- 30:22Speaker 4: And then talk about how he's kind of shredded the
- 30:24Speaker 4: Patriots defense, who are the masters of pre post snap
- 30:27Speaker 4: confusion and trying to you know, like he hasn't really
- 30:29Speaker 4: had a problem with deciphering, you know, until this last
- 30:31Speaker 4: game here last year when when you know, they kind
- 30:33Speaker 4: of slowed him down a little bit, but I don't
- 30:35Speaker 4: know he's he's.
- 30:36Speaker 1: The other thing they were doing is they were interchanging
- 30:39Speaker 1: the word underachiever and overrated, and I think it's different.
- 30:43Speaker 5: Oh, I totally.
- 30:44Speaker 1: I think somebody can be overrated and not.
- 30:48Speaker 5: Be Jay Cutler is an underachiever, right, He wasn't overrated
- 30:52Speaker 5: right right right, and he had all the ability in
- 30:55Speaker 5: the world and never panned.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Down over Not all overrated people are underachievers and vice,
- 31:00Speaker 1: you know, not all underachievers are overrated. You know.
- 31:04Speaker 4: I think Evan saying Burrow though, I mean, I love
- 31:06Speaker 4: Joe Burrow, but I do think that he's going to
- 31:09Speaker 4: start to enter that conversation if he can't stay healthy
- 31:12Speaker 4: and you know, consistently put that team where everyone kind
- 31:15Speaker 4: of assumes they should be right now with that lineup,
- 31:17Speaker 4: especially these last year too.
- 31:19Speaker 6: That's probably Josh Allen, sorry interrupted, but Josh Allen was
- 31:22Speaker 6: three three, so it was Mahomes, Burrow, Allan Lamar was
- 31:27Speaker 6: the I.
- 31:27Speaker 5: Think I could easily give you the question about Burrow
- 31:30Speaker 5: and Allen too.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Now.
- 31:31Speaker 5: A lot of people and I know, like Felger would
- 31:33Speaker 5: be very much in line with this, Burrow would get
- 31:36Speaker 5: the edge because he beat Mahomes. Yeah, and he got
- 31:40Speaker 5: to the super Bowl and he got over the hump.
- 31:41Speaker 5: He he appears to be Joe Cool, the guy that
- 31:46Speaker 5: you know, whereas Allen has not been able to win
- 31:50Speaker 5: that game. Again, I thought Ulawski did a great job
- 31:53Speaker 5: of illustrating it. I'm sorry that I don't hold it
- 31:56Speaker 5: against the quarterback when he threw a touchdown pass to
- 31:58Speaker 5: give his team the lead with thirteen seconds left, right,
- 32:00Speaker 5: I couldn't win the game, Like, I'm sorry if I
- 32:03Speaker 5: don't blame the quarterback for that, right Like, so now
- 32:06Speaker 5: he beat Mahomes in the playoffs, in the whole narrative
- 32:08Speaker 5: changes based on one squid kick, right or not? That
- 32:13Speaker 5: doesn't make any sense to me.
- 32:14Speaker 1: In the biggest of the second biggest stage, under extreme pressure,
- 32:18Speaker 1: Alan performed, he performed.
- 32:21Speaker 5: He didn't. It's not like he They had a terrible
- 32:24Speaker 5: performance against Cincinnati two years ago at home. I can't
- 32:28Speaker 5: really think of the other playoff games that they lost
- 32:30Speaker 5: that he and the team didn't show up, Like even
- 32:34Speaker 5: last year against Kansas City, it was Digs who dropped
- 32:38Speaker 5: the bomb, not Alan. It was the kicker Bass who
- 32:42Speaker 5: missed the field goal that should have tied the game.
- 32:44Speaker 5: Not Alan all right?
- 32:46Speaker 1: Eight five to five, pass five hundred ACE ticket hotline.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Anything else you want to put on the table before
- 32:50Speaker 1: we get to listeners callers.
- 32:53Speaker 3: One quick thing.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Probably gonna hear about pup in the next couple of days,
- 32:56Speaker 4: so you know, guys who aren't going to be ready
- 32:58Speaker 4: to go. So I think, you know, just a little
- 32:59Speaker 4: bit of interest. Guys j didn't really do much.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Who are some of the.
- 33:05Speaker 5: Other Kendrick born strange and born.
- 33:08Speaker 4: I was born, probably, but Bourne's a good one too,
- 33:11Speaker 4: just I mean probably in the next twenty four hours
- 33:13Speaker 4: or so.
- 33:13Speaker 1: I would bet if Bourne's not out there right away,
- 33:16Speaker 1: who does that benefit the most?
- 33:20Speaker 5: I would say Juju and Thornton and those guys, because
- 33:24Speaker 5: I think they're fighting for maybe one spot and maybe
- 33:27Speaker 5: that you know Kayshaun Boody, maybe that opens two spots.
- 33:31Speaker 1: By the way, we should mention about Booty good news
- 33:33Speaker 1: for him.
- 33:34Speaker 5: Charges on Tuesday. We did mention it, yes, and there
- 33:39Speaker 5: was actually I did I did actually see a statement
- 33:42Speaker 5: from the Baton Rouge. Uh. I don't know if it
- 33:45Speaker 5: was Gambling Commission or the attorney General's Office. I think
- 33:48Speaker 5: it was so like because on Tuesday I just kept
- 33:51Speaker 5: seeing according to his agents, they've dropped the chargers, and
- 33:54Speaker 5: I'm like, yeah, okay, I'd like to see that from
- 33:56Speaker 5: you say so, you know, and everybody was running with that,
- 34:00Speaker 5: you know, but I saw an actual statement.
- 34:02Speaker 1: From nothing gets by you.
- 34:04Speaker 5: How do you think that that's the same no by?
- 34:07Speaker 5: You said, oh, that's the heart, so I'll give you
- 34:11Speaker 5: another Felger before no, I was like, I didn't get it.
- 34:17Speaker 5: I don't know if you know that that was one
- 34:18Speaker 5: of Hardy's staples, like get.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Wonderful SAT game we had to sit through this year.
- 34:24Speaker 4: He was crushing that by your joke.
- 34:26Speaker 5: So you were talking about how Mike likes to make
- 34:29Speaker 5: the straw man arguments and how contradictory he can be,
- 34:32Speaker 5: and Evan brought up Lake. He just brings up Josh Allen.
- 34:35Speaker 5: So this one to me was perfect and of course
- 34:37Speaker 5: no one said anything about it. So his big thing,
- 34:42Speaker 5: you know, he's he's sort of anti talent. If you
- 34:44Speaker 5: listen to Mike talk about sports, he's not really interested
- 34:47Speaker 5: in the shiny objects, right. He wants, you know, the
- 34:51Speaker 5: Wes Welker and Julian Edelman, you know slot guy over
- 34:54Speaker 5: the Randy Moss, you know, explosive player the outside. Oh yeah,
- 34:59Speaker 5: I like to say, go yeah, that's because you're anti talent.
- 35:01Speaker 5: I said to him all the time. He had no
- 35:04Speaker 5: interest in Caleb Williams right in this draft as an example,
- 35:08Speaker 5: and he's like, you know, like, yeah, you take a
- 35:11Speaker 5: guy like Caleb Willams and you take all that goes
- 35:14Speaker 5: with him, and then and I'm like, I don't know,
- 35:17Speaker 5: he's supposedly done very well in spring camps and he's
- 35:21Speaker 5: all signed and ready to go. Meanwhile, mister intangible from
- 35:25Speaker 5: Michigan is still unsigned, you know, but whatever. You know,
- 35:29Speaker 5: like again, when you go your anti talent. So this
- 35:32Speaker 5: is so this whole thing. He had no interest in
- 35:35Speaker 5: Caleb Williams, he has no interest in the number one
- 35:37Speaker 5: overall pick because he's anti talent. But it's an atrocity
- 35:42Speaker 5: upon mankind that the USA basketball team wouldn't go with
- 35:47Speaker 5: the best twelve players and have eliminated Jalen Brown. And
- 35:50Speaker 5: he thinks it's ridiculous. He's been on a rant about
- 35:52Speaker 5: it for three days.
- 35:53Speaker 6: We need to get over the Jalen Brown.
- 35:55Speaker 1: And I literally have a take.
- 35:58Speaker 5: I have I have a take that has nothing, very
- 36:01Speaker 5: very little to do with Nike. Let's put it that way.
- 36:04Speaker 1: I have a take that does have kind of defends Nike.
- 36:06Speaker 5: But go ahead, but I'll just say, like, you can't
- 36:09Speaker 5: have both of those thoughts, like you're either. He just
- 36:12Speaker 5: says it should be the twelve best players period. You
- 36:14Speaker 5: should have Well, why wouldn't you take Caleb Williams? Then right,
- 36:18Speaker 5: it should be the best quarterback. If you need a quarterback,
- 36:20Speaker 5: you should want the best one, right, yeah, right, yeah,
- 36:24Speaker 5: But I don't want Caleb Williams, even though he's more
- 36:26Speaker 5: talented than the other guys, because I don't want all
- 36:29Speaker 5: that goes with him. That's why Jalen Brown's not on
- 36:31Speaker 5: USA basketball. That's exactly Stephen A. Smith was right, That's
- 36:35Speaker 5: exactly that's what the mindset about Jalen Brown around the
- 36:38Speaker 5: NBA is what Steven A. Smith said.
- 36:40Speaker 1: I feel like I should save my Jalen Brown take
- 36:43Speaker 1: for the next hour, okay, because it's a whole thing.
- 36:46Speaker 6: But I would also just quickly the twelve. I disagree
- 36:49Speaker 6: with his point that it should be the twelve best players,
- 36:51Speaker 6: like on the talent, it should be the best team yea,
- 36:55Speaker 6: and based off of how foeba is played, like the
- 36:59Speaker 6: three and the wing player like Jalen Brown is not
- 37:02Speaker 6: necessarily what the other teams they're gonna have to go
- 37:05Speaker 6: up against. A lot of these other teams are built
- 37:08Speaker 6: on guard play and bigs and the paint. So they've
- 37:11Speaker 6: stacked the roster with Drew Hollidays and Derek White's and
- 37:14Speaker 6: stuff like that.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Why are we conforming to what other teams do? We're
- 37:17Speaker 1: the best team.
- 37:18Speaker 5: I would, but I would also say because it's not
- 37:20Speaker 5: an all star team and they have to But no
- 37:22Speaker 5: matter how you're doing, Jalen Brown, Jalen Brown should be
- 37:26Speaker 5: one of your twelve players, no matter how like whether
- 37:28Speaker 5: you're taking that at consideration, Like he's so much better
- 37:32Speaker 5: than some of the guys in the team. Like I'm
- 37:35Speaker 5: just look Drew Holliday and Derek White for two.
- 37:37Speaker 6: But but those guys are on the team for intangible reasons.
- 37:40Speaker 5: Right, which is which is fine. I'm not saying that,
- 37:42Speaker 5: but like to suggest that I wouldn't take Caleb Williams
- 37:46Speaker 5: because I'm not interested in the talent because of the
- 37:48Speaker 5: baggage and ignore the baggage with Jalen Brown is contradictory,
- 37:52Speaker 5: Like I don't understand how Mike can make that comment.
- 37:55Speaker 5: Of course, no one said anything about it, because no
- 37:58Speaker 5: one really lies. Is that he just said something entirely
- 38:01Speaker 5: the opposite fifteen minutes earlier.
- 38:03Speaker 3: That's your gift.
- 38:07Speaker 5: It's wasted. It's wasted on.
- 38:10Speaker 6: When they played Germany and Dennis shrewders tearing them apart
- 38:13Speaker 6: like he did in FIBA. Now they'll have multiple guards
- 38:16Speaker 6: to throw at him that they can defend.
- 38:17Speaker 5: So you're trying to tell me that Jalen Brown would
- 38:19Speaker 5: not be capable of covering Dennis Shrewder Go look up.
- 38:23Speaker 6: The Phoebe semifinals from two years ago.
- 38:25Speaker 5: I'm just, unfortunately.
- 38:29Speaker 3: From now.
- 38:31Speaker 5: Able to contain him him. I'm not. I'm not trying
- 38:36Speaker 5: to be the guy that's like, you know, holding a
- 38:39Speaker 5: big sale for Jalen Brown, like whatever, you want to
- 38:41Speaker 5: be sort of abrasive. Sometimes these things happen to you.
- 38:45Speaker 5: That to me, is why he's not on the team.
- 38:47Speaker 5: I don't think guys like them, Yeah, I agree with
- 38:49Speaker 5: I don't think guys like them. And they didn't really
- 38:51Speaker 5: fight for him, and they didn't really care to have
- 38:53Speaker 5: him on the team.
- 38:53Speaker 6: I agree with that.
- 38:54Speaker 5: But he's one of the better players, and he can
- 38:56Speaker 5: do that stuff. I mean, there's no question in mink.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Talk about that later because people want to.
- 39:02Speaker 5: I'm really interested in your Jalen Brown alarm.
- 39:06Speaker 3: But remind me I want to hear it too.
- 39:08Speaker 5: I'm interested well to explain basketball to Juice again.
- 39:13Speaker 6: That's oh god, it was ridiculous.
- 39:17Speaker 1: A five five pass, five hundred is the A ticket hotline.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Web radio at Patriots dot com is the email address.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Mike's in Puerto Rico. Let's see what's up, Mike. How
- 39:26Speaker 1: you doing.
- 39:28Speaker 7: I'm doing well. How are you guys doing.
- 39:29Speaker 1: We're doing good, Mike.
- 39:33Speaker 7: I got a I heard you guys talking about meeting
- 39:35Speaker 7: by heroes or or celebrities a couple of episodes ago,
- 39:39Speaker 7: and I didn't get a chance to call in.
- 39:41Speaker 8: I was wondering if you, uh would.
- 39:43Speaker 7: Be interested in in in a boxing story regarding somebody
- 39:46Speaker 7: that I met, and then I have a question.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Afterwards as long as as long as it's short, I mean,
- 39:50Speaker 1: you know, yeah.
- 39:52Speaker 7: Well, uh, short story. I was down in Puerto Rico
- 39:56Speaker 7: in a casino.
- 39:58Speaker 9: While do you know the boxer Little Albata, the Mexican boxer, No,
- 40:03Speaker 9: I do, okay, So he's the world he's the world champion.
- 40:06Speaker 9: He's into it like one of the best pounds for
- 40:08Speaker 9: pound in a while.
- 40:10Speaker 7: And short story, I walked into the casino. I was
- 40:12Speaker 7: with my girlfriend who is Mexican, who is actually from
- 40:15Speaker 7: his hometown. And as I walk in, like I see
- 40:19Speaker 7: him playing at the table at a blackjack table. He's
- 40:22Speaker 7: sitting there by himself. There's nobody else around, and he's
- 40:25Speaker 7: playing four hands at the same time. And I walk
- 40:29Speaker 7: over and I say like, hey, canello, let's go say
- 40:31Speaker 7: hi or whatever. She shied away, she didn't want to,
- 40:34Speaker 7: and then one and she's like, oh, you should go
- 40:36Speaker 7: play with it, and I'm like, are you kidding? He's
- 40:37Speaker 7: probably he was like maxing out on every single bed.
- 40:40Speaker 8: He had four.
- 40:41Speaker 7: Hands going maxing out on every single bed. And black
- 40:43Speaker 7: Jacket's one of those things where if you do something wrong,
- 40:46Speaker 7: you could mess up somebody else's fan. So obviously I
- 40:49Speaker 7: didn't want to. I didn't want to do that, but
- 40:51Speaker 7: I'm like, I'm gonna go. I'm just gonna go say hi,
- 40:53Speaker 7: I say I'm a fan or whatever. So I walked.
- 40:56Speaker 7: I walked to the table, and again he was just
- 40:58Speaker 7: sitting there by himself. But then I ain't made the
- 41:00Speaker 7: mistake actually just touching him on the on the shoulder,
- 41:05Speaker 7: just to stay hi or whatever. And then the next
- 41:07Speaker 7: thing I knew, like security just comes out of every
- 41:10Speaker 7: single direction. Wow, there is like six or eight different
- 41:14Speaker 7: people just coming up on me. And this guy is
- 41:16Speaker 7: so cool, so mellow, so humble. He turns around, he's like,
- 41:19Speaker 7: it's okay, I got him, and then we just talked
- 41:22Speaker 7: for a minute. Told him about my girlfriend being from
- 41:25Speaker 7: from the city or whatever that he's from, and he's like, oh,
- 41:28Speaker 7: come over and and uh catch me outside and we
- 41:30Speaker 7: can take a picture. We just can't do it in
- 41:32Speaker 7: here because it's the casino. So I thought that was
- 41:35Speaker 7: pretty cool. He was a two and I was a
- 41:37Speaker 7: fan already, so I just took him to a different level,
- 41:40Speaker 7: just a mellow.
- 41:41Speaker 1: And what's this guy's name again? Alvarez? And what waight
- 41:44Speaker 1: classes he?
- 41:47Speaker 7: I think he's all the way up to uh middleway
- 41:50Speaker 7: right now?
- 41:54Speaker 5: Yeah? Nice, he's good.
- 41:56Speaker 1: That's a story, but he yeah, he.
- 41:59Speaker 7: But he was like super medow, super chill, and this
- 42:01Speaker 7: one when he was on his way up.
- 42:02Speaker 8: So he's pretty cool.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Did you get an autograph?
- 42:05Speaker 7: The question that I didn't, unfortunately, because by the time
- 42:09Speaker 7: I went back and told my girlfriend the whole thing
- 42:12Speaker 7: and I came over like security ushered him out. So yeah,
- 42:16Speaker 7: unfortunately I wasn't able to. But again, super cool, super
- 42:19Speaker 7: cool guy. And the question that I have for the
- 42:23Speaker 7: group is based on what you something about what you
- 42:25Speaker 7: guys were talking about earlier. Regarding Drake May, I'm of
- 42:29Speaker 7: the belief that I think he should be put in
- 42:31Speaker 7: right away. However, my question to you is, as as
- 42:36Speaker 7: he is playing, what do you think would be more
- 42:39Speaker 7: helpful for his development To put him out there and
- 42:42Speaker 7: then just to pully an offense that is run heavy
- 42:46Speaker 7: with mass protection and dumpfoff or a run the regular
- 42:50Speaker 7: offense with more more options downfield, take advantage of his
- 42:54Speaker 7: arm and his mobilities, but then he's more successible to
- 42:58Speaker 7: press her sax and injury then maybe quote unquote like
- 43:02Speaker 7: damaging his long term development.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Yeah, do you guys think I think the answer is
- 43:07Speaker 1: you play the offense that you think is your best
- 43:09Speaker 1: chance to win the game.
- 43:10Speaker 5: I would rather I mean that's second offense.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Yeah, look, that usually is going to be the second offense,
- 43:15Speaker 1: but if you come up against a team that has,
- 43:18Speaker 1: you know, the best secondary in the league, and you
- 43:20Speaker 1: don't think like play to win the game, have a
- 43:23Speaker 1: game plan to win the game, whatever that is, you know.
- 43:26Speaker 5: Yeah, and that doesn't mean that I just want to
- 43:28Speaker 5: be reckless and put out Harm's way as many times
- 43:30Speaker 5: as I possibly can, you know, And I you know,
- 43:32Speaker 5: Mike went through the thing. Just say like, yeah, if
- 43:34Speaker 5: it's third and seventeen on your own twenty, you know,
- 43:36Speaker 5: maybe you're running a draw. I mean, I get it.
- 43:38Speaker 5: You're not asking him to be Superman every play of
- 43:41Speaker 5: the game, you know, but I would I want to
- 43:45Speaker 5: run a conventional offense. I don't want to do what
- 43:47Speaker 5: they did with Mac Jones his rookie year.
- 43:48Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 43:49Speaker 6: I mean, if this system is working correctly the way
- 43:51Speaker 6: it should function, it's a very quarterback friendly offense. That's
- 43:55Speaker 6: why it's all over the league. And it's not necessarily
- 43:58Speaker 6: going to ask him to be Superman and you know,
- 44:01Speaker 6: just make something happen. You know, there's gonna be a
- 44:03Speaker 6: lot of play action involved. There's gonna be a lot
- 44:05Speaker 6: of moving pockets involved on first and second down. So
- 44:08Speaker 6: they're they're gonna do things that are gonna simplify it
- 44:11Speaker 6: for the quarterback inherently, whether it's Jacoby Brissett or its
- 44:14Speaker 6: Drake May so I wouldn't worry too much about Oh
- 44:17Speaker 6: he's in empty and it's third and twelve and he's
- 44:20Speaker 6: there just asking him to run around and make plays.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Eldred's in North Carolina. Hey Eldred?
- 44:27Speaker 8: Okay, Hey, so y'all doing today?
- 44:29Speaker 5: Doing good?
- 44:30Speaker 8: He Yeah, I love that studio. That's funny. But I
- 44:33Speaker 8: ain't get a chance to get home. But got three questions.
- 44:37Speaker 8: Bake Okay, I heard to u.
- 44:41Speaker 10: XM radio in a bail blitz. Yeah, they have a
- 44:44Speaker 10: good left tackle. It's coming available because when the Chiefs
- 44:50Speaker 10: drafted this other guy, they drafted one this year. Yeah,
- 44:53Speaker 10: the first guy, Uh, just hold down. It's gonna get
- 44:56Speaker 10: out because they're going there.
- 44:57Speaker 8: You decave of charge day and that.
- 45:00Speaker 11: Other guy, and they came from inside chief source, they
- 45:03Speaker 11: really trust. They got pushed better doing training camp and
- 45:08Speaker 11: whatever the idiot earlier, so they are going with the
- 45:11Speaker 11: youth movement, you know what they're trying to do. So
- 45:15Speaker 11: there was seconds the most they probably will act if
- 45:19Speaker 11: he was second or third. But he's a start and
- 45:22Speaker 11: left tack, the one to start for the Chiefs.
- 45:24Speaker 8: Last year and he gets pushed out.
- 45:26Speaker 3: By the two guys, we have a named Donovan Smith.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Is that No?
- 45:29Speaker 6: So Donovan Smith's a free agenty talking about Juwan Taylor
- 45:32Speaker 6: because like they have Wania Morris. Yeah, and they drafted
- 45:35Speaker 6: Kingsley su Mattia so they have to ta younger attacks.
- 45:39Speaker 6: Yeah so that one. Yeah, so Jawan Taylor, leave him tonight. Yeah,
- 45:45Speaker 6: he's available.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Who was the guy they got from? It was actually
- 45:47Speaker 1: a guy they got from the Brian Waters was that
- 45:50Speaker 1: his name? Yeah, he was older and they brought him
- 45:53Speaker 1: in close was old. He was old, but they brought
- 45:56Speaker 1: him in during camp.
- 45:57Speaker 6: And you know Jawan Taylor, well, he grated out as
- 46:01Speaker 6: one of the worst tackles in the league last year actually,
- 46:04Speaker 6: and everybody got on him for cheating because he would
- 46:06Speaker 6: like leave on the snap early and like put his whatever.
- 46:09Speaker 3: Uh.
- 46:11Speaker 6: Yeah, point being, he's very expensive contractually. They paid him
- 46:15Speaker 6: a free agent deal. I think it was the last
- 46:17Speaker 6: off season, not this one, but last offseason, and they
- 46:21Speaker 6: gave him a bowload of money with you know that mcglinchy,
- 46:23Speaker 6: BC Garry Juwan Taylor class and then uh and then
- 46:27Speaker 6: he didn't play very well last year.
- 46:28Speaker 5: And didn't he play right tackle?
- 46:30Speaker 6: Yeah, confusing, Yeah, so he might have played right tackle
- 46:33Speaker 6: last year with Donovan Smith playing left if I remember
- 46:36Speaker 6: correctly as well, But uh, he can play left. Maybe
- 46:40Speaker 6: I believe he played right tackle in Jacksonville also, but
- 46:43Speaker 6: I'd have to double check.
- 46:44Speaker 5: I think that's what you need to do. It's just
- 46:45Speaker 5: bringing as many right tackles as you.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Left to play left tackle.
- 46:51Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I don't think he's I don't think he's
- 46:55Speaker 6: played left tackle for the majority of his career. But
- 46:57Speaker 6: that's where it's.
- 46:59Speaker 1: It's right, el thanks for the call. Good hearing from you.
- 47:02Speaker 1: All right, we're gonna take a break.
- 47:03Speaker 5: I also just would say life foods here good good
- 47:06Speaker 5: good teams don't cut good.
- 47:07Speaker 3: Players right right, and a lot of these other there's.
- 47:10Speaker 5: Not any good. Then maybe they'll go with a youth movement.
- 47:12Speaker 4: But the right and Tonovan Smith, these guys that people
- 47:15Speaker 4: call and assphall like they're available to everybody, and a
- 47:17Speaker 4: lot of teams need tackles.
- 47:18Speaker 5: It's not just a Patriot.
- 47:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, there's right.
- 47:20Speaker 6: Yeah, So he was a career right tackle. I had
- 47:22Speaker 6: a writ and jacksonmithly played on the right side, but
- 47:25Speaker 6: I was a big fan of Kingley sum Mattias in
- 47:27Speaker 6: the draft. So if he's somebody that can come out
- 47:29Speaker 6: and start as a rookie then conceivably, But like I said,
- 47:33Speaker 6: they just paid Jawan Taylor a hefty amount of money
- 47:36Speaker 6: in free agency, so you're looking at acquiring a player
- 47:38Speaker 6: that's gonna make like sixteen plus million dollars to play here.
- 47:42Speaker 1: All right, Time to take a break when we come back.

- 49:01Speaker 5: What's up, everybody?
- 49:02Speaker 13: Mattie here, continuing with some snippets from our podcast series
- 49:05Speaker 13: Passed from the Past.
- 49:06Speaker 3: Here's one from our episode with Romeo Crenell.
- 49:08Speaker 14: It's time for another episode of Pats from the Past
- 49:11Speaker 14: podcast Matt Smith and Paul Parrillo and who are we
- 49:13Speaker 14: lucky to have today, Paul, but the great Romeo Crenell,
- 49:16Speaker 14: who is here for the hol of Fame weekend. Romeo,
- 49:18Speaker 14: thank you so much for joining us. Really appreciate it.
- 49:20Speaker 13: It's my pleasure.
- 49:21Speaker 1: It's great to be back a lot of.
- 49:23Speaker 13: New editions and new things since I was last here,
- 49:26Speaker 13: but I'm excited and had a chance to meet some
- 49:30Speaker 13: see some old guys and it's all great.
- 49:33Speaker 14: So, I mean, Paul and I were talking about this
- 49:34Speaker 14: before he in Romeo. What does it say about the
- 49:37Speaker 14: quality of the people who are enshrined yesterday? And look,
- 49:42Speaker 14: you're coming from New York. Maybe not that big of
- 49:45Speaker 14: a deal, but that's something that you didn't want to miss,
- 49:47Speaker 14: did you, you know, to be able to be here
- 49:50Speaker 14: to help contribute and honor the two people that the
- 49:52Speaker 14: organization aren't yesterday, that says about a lot what you
- 49:54Speaker 14: must think of them.
- 49:56Speaker 13: Well, I do think a lot of both guys, you know, Dante,
- 50:00Speaker 13: because I was coaching defensive line for a while and
- 50:04Speaker 13: then Dante coaches the offensive line, so in practice you
- 50:08Speaker 13: got that little, you know, back and forth between the
- 50:11Speaker 13: two groups. And so we always were were competitive, but
- 50:17Speaker 13: we understood the challenges that each of us had. And
- 50:20Speaker 13: for him to do it in one place for as
- 50:23Speaker 13: long as he's done it, that is unreal, really is.
- 50:27Speaker 13: And then Vrabel, you know, we got him from Pittsburgh
- 50:30Speaker 13: and he basically was a backup at Pittsburgh and he
- 50:34Speaker 13: was looking for an opportunity and we offered him a
- 50:38Speaker 13: contract and he came aboard and he's playing that outside
- 50:42Speaker 13: linebacker spot for us and coming off that edge and
- 50:45Speaker 13: getting after the quarterbacks.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Uh.
- 50:47Speaker 13: But Vrabel is smart. He knows schemes, he knows offenses,
- 50:52Speaker 13: and that helped make him the player that he was.
- 50:57Speaker 14: How was it coaching with him, because was he on
- 50:59Speaker 14: your staff in Houston.
- 51:01Speaker 13: Yeah, it's funny. Mike was coaching at Ohio State because
- 51:05Speaker 13: he graduated from Ohio State. Then he was coaching at
- 51:08Speaker 13: Ohio State and then Billy Oh, you know, had running
- 51:12Speaker 13: to him here and Billy Oh liked him, and so
- 51:15Speaker 13: Billy Oh offered him a job. And he called me
- 51:18Speaker 13: and asked me what about pro coaching and what did
- 51:22Speaker 13: I think and all of that, And I said, Mike,
- 51:26Speaker 13: you got some things going for you. And in this business.
- 51:30Speaker 13: You've been in this game. You know about pro football,
- 51:33Speaker 13: and I think that if you come aboard, you'll be satisfied.
- 51:37Speaker 13: And he came aboard Boom right away. People were trying
- 51:43Speaker 13: to hire him away. He became the coordinator and then
- 51:47Speaker 13: the next year he became the head coach and we
- 51:50Speaker 13: see how he is improved that team and took him
- 51:54Speaker 13: to the playoffs and all that. And so everybody in
- 51:58Speaker 13: this business, I mean, you know, coaching, you don't stay
- 52:01Speaker 13: at the top forever. So sometimes what goes around comes
- 52:05Speaker 13: around and you have to deal with it. But the
- 52:08Speaker 13: thing that he mentioned yesterday was that you always try
- 52:13Speaker 13: to get better, You try to find ways to get better.
- 52:15Speaker 1: And I know that he will.
- 52:16Speaker 13: Do that as far as his team goes this year,
- 52:19Speaker 13: and I think he'll have a great career.
- 52:22Speaker 5: So when you were coaching Mike, you know, Mike was
- 52:25Speaker 5: the guy that obviously always had all the answers. So
- 52:28Speaker 5: I assume you guys sort of looked at him and said,
- 52:30Speaker 5: you know what, he's always busted him, but he's going
- 52:33Speaker 5: to be a coach some day. Did you always kind
- 52:35Speaker 5: of look at him as is that kind of a guy?
- 52:36Speaker 13: Well, he was like a coach on the field, right,
- 52:38Speaker 13: you know, And so by him being able to be
- 52:43Speaker 13: considered a coach on the field, I thought that at
- 52:45Speaker 13: some point that if he chose coaching, that he would
- 52:49Speaker 13: be a good coach.
- 52:51Speaker 14: Romeo, what was your You don't have to limit it
- 52:54Speaker 14: to one. When you look at your career in coaching,
- 52:57Speaker 14: is there a person or people that you could say
- 53:00Speaker 14: were tremendous influences on you? Mentors if you would, that
- 53:04Speaker 14: helped you along the way. I mean, well, did you
- 53:06Speaker 14: have seventeen different stops. As far as coaching, I'm looking
- 53:08Speaker 14: at your wife over here, and that's a lot of
- 53:10Speaker 14: tacking up and moving, which is you know, I think
- 53:12Speaker 14: a lot of people take for granted and professionally, Oh,
- 53:14Speaker 14: it's professional sports.
- 53:15Speaker 1: It's really easy.
- 53:17Speaker 14: And Mike mentioned it yesterday how hard that can be
- 53:19Speaker 14: on kids. You know, who are the people that you
- 53:22Speaker 14: that maybe inspired you and that you want to give
- 53:26Speaker 14: credit to. As far as your coaching career is concerned.
- 53:28Speaker 13: Well, I think first of all, I have to start
- 53:31Speaker 13: with coach Jimmy Fikes, who is at Western Kentucky and
- 53:34Speaker 13: I went to school there. I played for him. I
- 53:36Speaker 13: was the captain on the team, and he gave me
- 53:39Speaker 13: my first job, and after my graduate assistant year, he
- 53:42Speaker 13: hired me to be on the staff. And if not that,
- 53:46Speaker 13: I was probably going to be a high school coach.
- 53:50Speaker 13: And then this coaching business, you kind of get stuck
- 53:52Speaker 13: on the stratafy or that you're in. And so by
- 53:56Speaker 13: starting at the college level as opposed to the high
- 54:00Speaker 13: school level, that allowed me to be able to elevate
- 54:04Speaker 13: up the ladder. And so coach Jimmy Fikes and then
- 54:07Speaker 13: I met Parcels while I was down there at Western
- 54:10Speaker 13: on the recruiting trail and ended up going to Texas
- 54:14Speaker 13: Tech with Steve Sloan and Parcelles was his defensive coordinator.
- 54:18Speaker 13: And then after a couple of years later, a couple
- 54:21Speaker 13: more moves, we ended up in New York with the Giants.
- 54:26Speaker 5: So you had that whole group. And I always found
- 54:29Speaker 5: this interesting, just you know, it was the Giants, and
- 54:31Speaker 5: then Parcels came to New England and it was all
- 54:33Speaker 5: you guys coming to New England and then back to
- 54:35Speaker 5: the Jets, and just how special was that group with
- 54:38Speaker 5: you know, we all know all the names, with you
- 54:40Speaker 5: and Charlie, that iconic photo. We'll get to that, I
- 54:42Speaker 5: think later too, you know, with you and Bill. But
- 54:45Speaker 5: how that must have been a pretty special group that
- 54:47Speaker 5: you guys were a part of with the Giants, well.
- 54:49Speaker 13: It was, and I should have mentioned Belichick also and
- 54:53Speaker 13: those guys who had the influence. But Belichick and I
- 54:57Speaker 13: we worked in the same office. He was a special
- 54:59Speaker 13: teams coach started with and I was a quality control
- 55:02Speaker 13: and then when Ray Perkins left the Giants, Parcels became
- 55:07Speaker 13: the head coach. Parceales didn't give him the coordinator title.
- 55:12Speaker 13: He said, you run the defense, but I'm not gonna
- 55:14Speaker 13: give you the title yet. But Bill ran the defense,
- 55:17Speaker 13: and then I took over special teams for him, you know.
- 55:20Speaker 13: And so because of the time we were together, I
- 55:24Speaker 13: think you developed that strong bond. And so I think
- 55:28Speaker 13: we have a strong bond that group that you're talking about.
- 55:31Speaker 14: That And I would think as we're talking about all
- 55:34Speaker 14: the moves that you've made and the different groups that
- 55:36Speaker 14: you're with, I have to assume it's a challenging time
- 55:39Speaker 14: for you. When Bill Belichick came here to New England
- 55:43Speaker 14: after the ninety six season, when he became the head coach. Here,
- 55:46Speaker 14: you're with a group with the Jets, you know, and
- 55:48Speaker 14: are we gonna go here with Bill?
- 55:50Speaker 5: How are we going to do that?
- 55:51Speaker 14: That must have been a hard decision for you to
- 55:53Speaker 14: do because you're leaving some people behind, but you're going
- 55:55Speaker 14: with another really good group. What was that period in
- 55:58Speaker 14: life like for you, Romeo?
- 55:59Speaker 13: Well, you know what, when those things happen, and when
- 56:02Speaker 13: they occur, you have to sit down and you have
- 56:04Speaker 13: to look at the landscape, all right. Who's working at
- 56:10Speaker 13: different places? You know? And I took a couple of interviews,
- 56:15Speaker 13: went at the San Diego and interviewed with those guys,
- 56:18Speaker 13: and I knew a guy out there and he told
- 56:20Speaker 13: me how good the weather was and all of that
- 56:22Speaker 13: kind of stuff. But when it got down to it
- 56:26Speaker 13: and Belichick called me and secured the position with him,
- 56:32Speaker 13: then I knew where I want it to be.
- 56:36Speaker 14: If you look back, Romeo, at all the great battles
- 56:39Speaker 14: that you were involved in here, the championships that were
- 56:42Speaker 14: won your career primarily on the defensive side of the ball,
- 56:45Speaker 14: and during your head coaching career, was there a scheme
- 56:50Speaker 14: or a team or a group of players that you
- 56:52Speaker 14: can market say these guys kept me at up.
- 56:55Speaker 3: At night more so than the rest.
- 56:57Speaker 1: You know.
- 56:57Speaker 14: I think we romanticize some of the Colts games from
- 57:00Speaker 14: the early two thousands and how difficult they were to play.
- 57:04Speaker 14: But is there somebody that particularly sticks in your mind,
- 57:06Speaker 14: like how am I going to.
- 57:07Speaker 3: Stop these guys?
- 57:09Speaker 13: Well, Peyton Manny for what he he fell into that category.
- 57:13Speaker 13: You know, his rookie year, he kind of took a
- 57:16Speaker 13: beating the first half of the season.
- 57:18Speaker 1: But Peyton had.
- 57:20Speaker 13: Such a command of that offense and he was always
- 57:24Speaker 13: able to get the players to rally around him and
- 57:27Speaker 13: sometimes exceed their abilities, and he was always a challenge
- 57:32Speaker 13: because he knew offense, he knew defense, he could check,
- 57:36Speaker 13: you know, and so he was one that I always
- 57:40Speaker 13: enjoyed playing. But a little concern the night before.
- 57:46Speaker 2: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes. No
- 57:51Speaker 2: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 57:55Speaker 2: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 57:59Speaker 2: now meets next for residential delivery only.
- 58:03Speaker 1: And now great moments in history. I know he's a
- 58:09Speaker 1: friend of the show, but the pre and post game
- 58:11Speaker 1: shows have become largely about soothing or feeding Hardy's ego,
- 58:15Speaker 1: and he offers little actual information about the team or
- 58:18Speaker 1: the game. It's so frustrated.
- 58:20Speaker 3: Wow, oh we should bring this.
- 58:23Speaker 5: That's entirely inaccurate Hardy.
- 58:26Speaker 1: I don't know if har has I think, if anything
- 58:28Speaker 1: in this room, I think, if anything, he's got inferior complex.
- 58:32Speaker 5: Yes, I would agree.
- 58:34Speaker 1: Uh, you know, he's a very busy guy. He's got
- 58:37Speaker 1: ninety eight point five then he does serious he's got
- 58:39Speaker 1: the music show, you know, so.
- 58:42Speaker 4: He's got golf, the golf show that he does.
- 58:46Speaker 1: But he gets free stuff for that, so I'm a
- 58:48Speaker 1: little jealous. He took care of custom P HG clubs.
- 58:53Speaker 5: He gave you clubs.
- 58:55Speaker 1: He got those he got free and I got his leftovers.
- 58:59Speaker 1: Oh did you?
- 59:00Speaker 5: He said, he gave me a set of irons? Nice?
- 59:02Speaker 1: What kind?
- 59:03Speaker 5: I don't know. I didn't look at him yet.
- 59:05Speaker 1: You don't even look at him.
- 59:06Speaker 5: No, we just the other night when we were leave
- 59:08Speaker 5: and he put him in.
- 59:08Speaker 1: My trunk, so you have you're not even curious to
- 59:12Speaker 1: what they are.
- 59:13Speaker 5: No, I'll look at him when I get a chance.
- 59:15Speaker 1: I would want to know what kind of clubs I
- 59:17Speaker 1: got you excited? I've been working on a new set of.
- 59:22Speaker 4: Irons, just rolling around in the back of his car
- 59:25Speaker 4: a bag.
- 59:28Speaker 1: I'd want to know, Like the Calloways, and they expect
- 59:31Speaker 1: that from him, not you. I expect you like I'd
- 59:34Speaker 1: be excited to get a new set of irons.
- 59:36Speaker 6: Mike, how's your putty?
- 59:37Speaker 14: That's another great moment from.
- 59:42Speaker 1: It's easy to drink, it's easy to enjoy. You know
- 59:45Speaker 1: what I'm talking about.
- 59:46Speaker 5: Bud Light.
- 59:46Speaker 1: It's the official beer sponsor of the New England Patriots

- 1:00:40Speaker 5: Massachusetts may lose its status as the loan state in
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: the United States?
- 1:00:45Speaker 8: Love it?
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: That will not allow Yeah, bringing.
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: Back happy bring back at idea Happy hour is when
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: there's some deals on the drinks right open bars when
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: they're free.
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: So this is just gonna be the next front of
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: me when we go to the Conference of doubt side
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: of message, when.
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: We go when we know when we go to the combine, Yes,
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: we stay usually at the embassy suites and they have Sorry,
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: I call it happy hour, but Mike correct mean says, no,
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: that's open bar.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: You get tickets.
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: Now, it's tickets.
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: If you stay there, you can get you know, you
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: get tickets and you get a couple of free drinks,
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: which is great. It's a great, great little perk.
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: It's a great little but I call it happy.
- 1:01:26Speaker 5: I don't think you know how it works.
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: I was ready to pay.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: Oh yeah, happy hour is drink specials.
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: Correct.
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it's kind of funny though, I mean, do you
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: I mean, that was what the eighties or nineties, eighty four,
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: eighty four.
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: I was not even before I could take seventeen and
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: it was the worst.
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: Sixteen.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: All right, So that's coming back.
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: But it looks like it's coming back. You know when
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: Massachusetts woul probably be yeah, like, well that's why the
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: year twenty thirty, they'll do it.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: That's what Massachusetts did when they banished the happy hour.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: They replaced it with app specials. You know, so two
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: for one apps or half price.
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: Usually the happy hours both, right, Like there's like a
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: happy hour menu that.
- 1:02:09Speaker 5: Run, Yeah, they run together.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: You think it'll help business because it doesn't seem like
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: bars are hurting these days.
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: Oh yes, they downtown yeah, or downtown.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Yeah, we got some. Well, no one works anymore.
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: Downtown Boston is struggling.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: They need people. They need people first before they can
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: fill up the bar.
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: Maybe you can get some people if you around here.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: Like I was. It was a Thursday after work and
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: I was down in Hyannas and I went to, uh,
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: this place. It's a Mexican place and it's got the
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: big tree in the back, and the place was packed.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: It was all people after work drinking.
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: Patriot Place would be pretty good for happy Hour. Then,
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: like you know, it seems like a good spot.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that bar Louis in the summer, that place's mom.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: They got the roof deck and everything.
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: But you get like like a like a like a
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: bucket of coronas or something for like sorry, but like
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: bucket of beers.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: So I'm just wondering if Happy I was going to
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: bring more people than they already have. Yeah.
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: I think that they were worried about sort of the
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: rise in drunk driving.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: Correct well at the time. At the time, that's why
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: they did it.
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: And then other states have brought it back and have
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: not seen any significant change right in the drunk driving rates.
- 1:03:18Speaker 5: So yeah, you want again, it's forty nine out of
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: fifty states, MASSA contributed to accidents these days.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: It's the phone.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: Sure.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: You know, I was talking to when insurance guy, and
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: I was saying, you know, you would think with all
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: these safety features the cars have now, you know, the
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: you know, detection of cars near you and all that stuff,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: that accidents and especially fender benders are down, and so
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: claims should be down. When are are premium is going
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: to go down? He goes, No, he goes, Claims are
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: still up, and it's because of the phones, people not
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: paying attention, because of the.
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: Just what the big insurance companies want.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: To probably probably, but at some point shouldn't all these
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: safety features reduce claim and thus reduce our premiums.
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: It's so annoying.
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: Did your cars have like all these like different bells
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: and oh yeah, every time you accidentally like look the
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: wrong way, and it like it makes you.
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: When I get a new car, I'm gonna be like,
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: I don't want any of that stuff. I just want
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: to basically you know, you can turn it off.
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: I don't want can you turn it off? Like the
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: lane change.
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: You accidentally touched the line and all of a sudden,
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: you can turn that can auto break.
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: I mean, I'm like Bill, I can't change the clock yet.
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: I barely, you know, messing with the functions of the
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: drag I can't figure out.
- 1:04:32Speaker 6: I just feel like in other places, like when I
- 1:04:34Speaker 6: lived in New York, the happy hour was huge because
- 1:04:37Speaker 6: you just jumped on the subway, like you're not getting
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: behind the wheel ever, so you don't have to worry
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: about that. But in Boston, so many people drive to
- 1:04:45Speaker 6: work and stuff like that that I think that was
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: why we haven't had happy hour for so long, is
- 1:04:50Speaker 6: because the public transportation isn't as major as it is
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: in a city like New York. Where you go to happy.
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: It is flawed to like, if you're someone who's gonna
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: have some beers and get behind the wheel, I was
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: only going to do that because I was saving money
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: on the beers. Right right now that I have to
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: pay full price for the beers, I'm no longer going
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: to do that.
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: Like it's kind of flowed to play for an internet
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: at home though, that's where they're gonna make up the
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: price difference.
- 1:05:15Speaker 15: Yeah, but then you got to leave your car and
- 1:05:17Speaker 15: then yeah, so get it and so if they can
- 1:05:20Speaker 15: prove that people love happy hour because it saves the
- 1:05:23Speaker 15: money rather than they can drink more, you know, then
- 1:05:27Speaker 15: the safety issue is the same.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Yeah, they're just saving money, they're not drinking more.
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: I would say the bars in Boston note COVID just
- 1:05:34Speaker 6: kill them, destroyed, Like so many good bars like on
- 1:05:38Speaker 6: like the Boilston area and stuff like that just you know,
- 1:05:42Speaker 6: just gone because of COVID.
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: And even the once it survived.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: I feel like it's just ninety percent of the restaurants,
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: they're not the same anymore.
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: And I mean half the time.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: I just feel like sometimes you go to a nice
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: place and it's professional waiters and you're like this is
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: But if you go to one of those other kind
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: of mid range places, it's kind of depressing, Like it
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: just feels like it's hanging on by a stroke.
- 1:06:00Speaker 5: Of those places are having a hard time fielding a workforce.
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: They can't get people, they can't get.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: That's the thing. It's getting good workers.
- 1:06:07Speaker 5: Because everybody in COVID found out that they could work
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: from home, and now no one wants to work.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: I just going to work from these kids. My niece
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: got an internship at a bank. I can't mention it
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: because it's a competitor to one of our sponsors seventy grand.
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: She's just not a college wow. Like, why would you
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: need to be a waitress or a bartender if you're
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: making seventy grand at.
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: A talk show host?
- 1:06:31Speaker 13: Wow?
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: Report, No, I couldn't believe it.
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: That's you know, or a producer. I see Matt with
- 1:06:36Speaker 5: his palms in the air.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: Like it's nuts anyway, Travis in West Virginia writes in
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: at web Radio at pages dot com, it's hard to
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: get used to your new studio arrangement. It reminds me
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: of the Seinfow episode where Jerry has his kitchen remodel
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: and it makes everyone uncomfortable.
- 1:06:52Speaker 5: Remember that one, I don't remember.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: Cabinets were too low, so you had a like had
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: the carpenter that always it's the one where George has
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: his desk rearranged at the Yankees. You remember that? And
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: then there was a bomb threat.
- 1:07:05Speaker 5: I'm going to have to figure this one out. Sounds
- 1:07:08Speaker 5: like a good one. I don't know why it.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: Was a good one. And yes, Josh Allen is overrated.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: My main reason for feeling that way is because the
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: things he excels at that amaze everyone, are not reliable
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: in crunch time. In other words, rolling out of the
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: pocket for fifteen seconds and slinging the ball sixty yards
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: downfield is not something you can just dial up at
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: any time and guarantee success. Also, Paul, he's a dopey
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: guy in that matters a lot.
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: Why has he been so good in crunch time?
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: Then? How many times does he roll out for fifty
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: seconds in I was.
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: Going to say, we watched Josh, can we watch it
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: against the Patriots?
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: I just that that would be my one question. If
- 1:07:49Speaker 5: he's not reliable in crunch time, why is he so
- 1:07:51Speaker 5: good in crunch time?
- 1:07:53Speaker 6: Looked up his playoff stats when we were talking about him,
- 1:07:55Speaker 6: and then we moved on in the In his ten
- 1:07:57Speaker 6: playoff games, he's twenty one to touchdowns.
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: Is that good in crunch time?
- 1:08:03Speaker 6: Ony one to four in the playoffs?
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: I knew it was good. You're more of a numbers
- 1:08:08Speaker 5: guy than me, But is that good in crunch time?
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: So much of that team against the Patriots in twenty
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: twenty one though.
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: Fair point chunk, But yeah, I know his playoff numbers
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: are actually really good. Though I knew that the turnovers
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: especially he cuts down a lot on the turnovers.
- 1:08:24Speaker 5: People just look at the wins and losses, and that's
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: to me, it's the most flawed way to look at
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: any quarterback.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: Because if you look at one play two plays by
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: side those.
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: Games, and I thought, you know, and I've had I
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: have my differences with with the Rolovsky in some of
- 1:08:38Speaker 5: his takes sometimes, but he did make a really strong argument,
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: like you're really talking about like three plays would dramatically
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: change your entire perception of Buffalo and Allen specifically, And
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: I just don't think that that's the difference between greatness
- 1:08:58Speaker 5: and overrated. Mm I don't you know, you want to
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: say he's not as good as people think, So maybe
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: that makes him overrated by definition. Okay, maybe then I
- 1:09:08Speaker 5: would say the same about Mahomes. And I think Mahomes
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: is phenomenal, like way better than Josh Allen based on
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: the amount that he's been able to win, But I
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: just don't look at it as well. They lost that game,
- 1:09:21Speaker 5: so it's on him.
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I have been thinking about that a little bit. Actually,
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: Paul is like it's hard to.
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: Extract like what you really know about a team versus
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: just situationally, what happened in a game with a hand
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: like two or three plays, Like does that define who
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: the teams are or is it you know, more kind
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: of the body of the work. And you know, like
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: looking back at the Patriots teams the last couple of years,
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: I mean there are specific examples, but you know, just
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: kind of an undisciplined team, like you know, those traits
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: that kind of continually pop up. Whereas you know, you
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: want to highlight one AFC championship game and like define
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: a player by that performance.
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: Even if you want to take a silly like one
- 1:09:54Speaker 5: silly regular season game, because we're talking about the Patriots,
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: the game that the Patriots beat him last year. Yeah,
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: they had down two touchdowns with what seven minutes left
- 1:10:04Speaker 5: in the game. He rallies them to two touchdowns and
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: then watches his defense allow mac Jones, who can't go
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: from here to there without falling down to drive eighty
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: r or seventy five yards. But I'm just saying, like
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: that's Josh all right, right right, Like he goes twice
- 1:10:20Speaker 5: in the last like three and a half minutes of
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: the game. Now admittedly one of them was off a
- 1:10:24Speaker 5: turnover they had a short field, but it's not his
- 1:10:28Speaker 5: fault that the defense then went out and allowed Mac
- 1:10:31Speaker 5: Jones to go seventy five yards and throw a touchdown
- 1:10:33Speaker 5: pass with whatever less than ten seconds.
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: Lest it sounds like you're coming over to the hub
- 1:10:38Speaker 6: wins or faith, Oh.
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: I told side of the Street, I think fugazi. It's
- 1:10:45Speaker 5: actually fugazy. But I think that's a little bit strong.
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: But yeah, I don't think wins and losses. I don't
- 1:10:51Speaker 5: think quarterback record per se is a sole indication of
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: whether or not the guy can play. I would, you know,
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: you'd need to watch the games, how much game see
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: how much the guy played. You know, some guys, like
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: some guys just find a way to win games and
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: it's not an accident. Tom Brady is at the top
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: of that list, Like, it's not an accident that sometimes
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: you just kind of like would meander along in a
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: game and then the game is on the line, and he.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: Was balls with the game on the line and every
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: time over and over again and repeats.
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: So the record for him, to me is not misleading.
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: There are other guys that you know, you looked at
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: them and you're like, how does he have such a
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: good record. He's really not all that good. Jimmy Garoppolo,
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: you know that's that's a good example there. I'll think
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: of it. There's another guy who has a like a
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: surprisingly good record and you're like, he's I can't believe
- 1:11:47Speaker 5: his record is that good?
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Damon Hewett.
- 1:11:49Speaker 5: Oh no, Mitch Trubisky. Mitch Trubisky's career record is way
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: better than you think it is. And I think he
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: kind of thinks.
- 1:11:56Speaker 6: He definitely kind of thinks.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: Josh and turn his far. All you guys are the
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: absolute best podcast or show for any sport and I
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: appreciate all you do for the fans. Thank you. And
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: by the way, that reminds me, thank you to all
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: our friends on Reddit. It's been called to my attention
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: that there was a survey about which Patriots podcast was
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: out there and by far people chose this one. So
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: thank you, uh to our Reddit followers. Reddit. That's R. E. D.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: D I T. T. Paul just one.
- 1:12:34Speaker 5: When you're being smug and condescending, you should have the
- 1:12:36Speaker 5: accurate information.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: Let's see lots of emails.
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: It's the hard part of the hosting when you gotta
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: like call an email out, but we gotta hit a
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: little lull and you're like, oh crap, I need a
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: good one quick, and then you're like, you.
- 1:12:51Speaker 5: Don't have it, come on your equipment on.
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: It up being fres now. Fred seems invigorated by the
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: new studio. I like it already. The place gives after
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: party vibes. Could imagine a Hooters waitress bringing you guys
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: wings and beers any minute. Will take a little take
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: a little minute to get used to, but easier to
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: endure than Todd's griping. Wasn't too long ago that the
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: PFW dinosaur scoffed at the idea of video. Just look
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: at you now, all growed up and in some cases
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: grown out. Yeah that's true.
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: Anyway, just so you know I still hate video anyway.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: How likely is this scenario? Patriots wins something in the
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: vicinity of zero to four games this year and it
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: doesn't look good, meaning blowouts in may looks lost. So
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: Kraft has some behind the scenes chats with Mayo acknowledging
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: there's a long leash, but we need to see this
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: thing turning around sooner than later. So the twenty twenty
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: five season reveals a very different male, more intense, less collaborative,
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: more cutthroat, less player friendly. Dare I say more bella Chickian.
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: There's an intro in question of whether Mayo's tightening up
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: like that might ultimately be good for the team. I'm
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: rambling here, but maybe there's a pendulum swing we're in
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: the midst of from the old autocratic regime to a
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: new inclusive style and eventually back again. So what do
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: you think not.
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: Under may Now?
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: If he did that, he'd be gone in twenty twenty six.
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: I mean, you got to be who you are, and
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: I mean I like who Jurrob Mayo is. He's definitely
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: different than Bill. And I'm hopeful that, you know, some
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: of these adjustments and some of the change in approach
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: is going to resonate a little bit more with some
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: of these younger players, and that when we get into
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: the season next year, we see a team that's that's
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: all kind of pulling together and you know, seems locked
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: in in the big moments. And I just I think
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: that was unfortunately something that slipped over the last couple
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: of years, that this was not a team that you know,
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: was ready to not beat themselves. I guess, I mean,
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: I think this team beat themselves as much as as
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: other teams beat them over the last couple of years,
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: and that's the biggest indictment I think of how it
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: all went down.
- 1:14:53Speaker 6: I just think a little some of that stuff's a
- 1:14:55Speaker 6: little overblown like that, Okay, so he tells us that
- 1:14:58Speaker 6: somebody's injured, and Bill might not have told us that
- 1:15:01Speaker 6: that player was injured, or I don't think that, or
- 1:15:04Speaker 6: like the locker room is like a little looser or
- 1:15:07Speaker 6: something like that, or you know, more player friendly. Like
- 1:15:09Speaker 6: the bottom line is if they get talented players and
- 1:15:12Speaker 6: they win more football games, and it's going to look better.
- 1:15:14Speaker 6: Like regardless of if Drod Mayo's attitude is different than Bill's,
- 1:15:18Speaker 6: I just don't really think that that's going to be
- 1:15:20Speaker 6: what is going to determine his success or failure as
- 1:15:23Speaker 6: a head coach in the league. What's going to determine
- 1:15:25Speaker 6: that is the fifty three guys they have on the roster.
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: But I would say that my you know, there is
- 1:15:32Speaker 5: a pendulum that that tends to swing between player, coach
- 1:15:35Speaker 5: and disciplinarian. That's very common. It will not I don't
- 1:15:39Speaker 5: think swing with the same guy. I think if Mayo
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: this is not like an experiment, This is how Mayo believes, well,
- 1:15:47Speaker 5: I need to operate.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: I hope how he is now is who he is.
- 1:15:51Speaker 5: No, but I think that he feels like with today's athletes,
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: you need to embrace them first before you ask them
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: to run through a wall. And I think that's not
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: going to suddenly change if it's like four and thirteen
- 1:16:03Speaker 5: in year one and he's just gonna say no, I
- 1:16:05Speaker 5: tried to coddle him last year. It didn't work. Next year,
- 1:16:08Speaker 5: I'm going to have them run through walls. Like I
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: don't think it will work.
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: It won't work, no way, no question.
- 1:16:13Speaker 6: I am interested to see how they run training camp though,
- 1:16:16Speaker 6: because nowadays, like there's obviously rules in place from the
- 1:16:20Speaker 6: CBA that they can't do certain things and stuff like that.
- 1:16:23Speaker 6: But notoriously speaking, Andy Reid has one of the hardest
- 1:16:26Speaker 6: training camps in the NFL every single year, and not
- 1:16:29Speaker 6: that everybody's, but that is the team you're chasing, like
- 1:16:33Speaker 6: everybody's tasting the Chiefs, and he's doing it in a
- 1:16:36Speaker 6: more old school way like they have some just like
- 1:16:39Speaker 6: very famous drills and things like that that they do
- 1:16:42Speaker 6: that you listen to the Kelsey Brothers talk about it
- 1:16:44Speaker 6: on their podcast and Travis Kelsey's like Andy Reid's practices
- 1:16:50Speaker 6: are brutal, you know, even harder than the games in
- 1:16:53Speaker 6: some instances. And you just wonder if this type of
- 1:16:57Speaker 6: coach and not saying Gerrod is necessarily going to be
- 1:16:59Speaker 6: that curious, what what is Gerrod gonna do? And is
- 1:17:02Speaker 6: it going to be a hard camp, you know.
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: Or is it?
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: And I'm glad you said that because I think that
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: Andy Reid is by most definitions of a player friendly coach.
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: He's he is a but he does have old school values.
- 1:17:15Speaker 5: He's been around a long time, and I think that
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: he operated a lot of the things that he did
- 1:17:21Speaker 5: much like Bill did before.
- 1:17:23Speaker 8: Now.
- 1:17:24Speaker 5: I think Bill sort of as they struggled post Brady
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: started to try to adapt a little bit and cater
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: some of the things. And there was a lot of
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: criticism Fred, your guy Badard, see how I did that.
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: His guy, your guy Badard has been really outspoken against
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: how easy camp has been for the Patriots the last
- 1:17:46Speaker 5: couple of years. You know, club med and he was talking,
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: you know, it's they're not practicing enough, they're not in
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: pads enough, they're not working hard enough. I don't know
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: if that's true or not, but It is interesting to
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: hear people talk about Andy Reid in Kansas City saying
- 1:18:03Speaker 5: their training camps are every bit as hard as they
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: always work.
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just what Evan said too.
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: It's what you always heard about Build, that the practices
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: were harder in the game game, you know. So I
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: do think that there's a you know, the tone of
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: the practice and how it kind of feels. And you know,
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: as a man, do we get to those dog days
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: of summer and you know it is the grind start?
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: Do we start to feel the grind a little bit
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: for the team? You know, be interesting because it's as
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: easy to be that kind of players coach in that
- 1:18:27Speaker 4: but you know, especially early on having a stamp down
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: and really get these guys ready to play.
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: Just feel like some of these coaches that are doing
- 1:18:33Speaker 6: it the new way, right, Like teams get to December
- 1:18:37Speaker 6: and January, the teams kind of soft. Yeah, looking at you, like,
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: you know, it's great that your coach is like this,
- 1:18:44Speaker 6: like nerdy, cool guy like trust me. I like, it's great.
- 1:18:48Speaker 6: But then you get into the playoffs and and they
- 1:18:51Speaker 6: get punched in the mouth and they can't do anything.
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: Yeah, And I do wonder because I I think there
- 1:18:56Speaker 5: are a lot of teams that sort of do it,
- 1:18:58Speaker 5: quote unquote the new I think philadelph is one. When
- 1:19:00Speaker 5: we were out there for joint practices, Mike, we were
- 1:19:02Speaker 5: both like, wow, there's and they worked hard during that time.
- 1:19:10Speaker 5: But that's they They strongly believed in it, which is
- 1:19:12Speaker 5: why I brought up earlier about the night practice. I
- 1:19:14Speaker 5: was wondering if maybe there was something to do with that.
- 1:19:17Speaker 5: Siriani clearly believes in getting the players off their feet,
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: working hard but in a shorter amount of time, and
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: they that's something they've embraced now. Initially it worked wonderfully.
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: Last year, Evan might be right like they completely fell apart.
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: I don't know if that's because they ran out of gas.
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: I think they might have gotten I think they were
- 1:19:36Speaker 5: kind of lucky to be ten and one. When they were,
- 1:19:39Speaker 5: they won a couple of fluky games, and all of
- 1:19:41Speaker 5: a sudden, you continue to play like that and you're
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: not winning the game at the end, And they weren't
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: really even a good team when they went into the playoffs.
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: They got a man.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: John Seattle says, I wanted to give a thank you
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: to Evan for talking about the ATN podcast on Tuesday
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: show What's atn Around the NFL, Around the NFL Okay
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: and Patriots Unfiltered on my two constant podcasts, and the
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: alternating episode release schedules allowed me to have NonStop football
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: content throughout the year atn will be missed question. Bill
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: would often say that off season is a time for
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: teaching in your experience, whether it be a couple of
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: years or the entire run of the Dynasty. What is
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: something that working for the Patriots has taught you?
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: Jeez, I feel like we're like a Ted talk or
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: something like.
- 1:20:34Speaker 9: Me.
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: Ye, No, I think, I mean, I think that Bill's
- 1:20:39Speaker 5: talking about the team, right. Bill doesn't like have seminars.
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: I think us I got nothing, You got nothing, do you?
- 1:20:47Speaker 13: Well?
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: I mean obviously Bill didn't teach us anything because he's
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: not our supervisor or coach, but like just working looking
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: at working in the NFL, working for the Patriots, Like,
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: what did.
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: You learn anything?
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: Yeah? Did you learn it?
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: Just how like NFL teams operate. But that was like
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: ten minutes into year one. Yeah, Like that's kind of
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: how we operate, you know.
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: I think I've learned over the years that you know,
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: even though we're not on the field playing and all that,
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: and you don't have to be a football fan to
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: work here. I think it really helps. I think it
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: really helps if you enjoy the NFL in football and
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: if you're a Patriots fan. I think that helps h
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: in my experience.
- 1:21:31Speaker 6: Yeah, I said that to people. I'm sure everybody gets
- 1:21:34Speaker 6: the people that like reach out and ask about for
- 1:21:37Speaker 6: a career advice or something like that. But you can't,
- 1:21:40Speaker 6: in my opinion, do this job because of how labor
- 1:21:43Speaker 6: intensive it can be during football season if you don't
- 1:21:46Speaker 6: really love sports and love football, Because when it gets
- 1:21:50Speaker 6: into you know, week seventeen, and they're you know whatever,
- 1:21:54Speaker 6: it's Christmas and you were in Denver and they're here,
- 1:21:57Speaker 6: you know, doing the show on Christmas Eve and you
- 1:22:00Speaker 6: are just kind of like doing it to collect the paycheck.
- 1:22:03Speaker 6: And it's I don't think you're going to be in
- 1:22:05Speaker 6: it for the long call. And that's not like to
- 1:22:07Speaker 6: offend anybody. It's just if you're going to do this,
- 1:22:09Speaker 6: you got to think about that.
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: The other thing, it's a hell of a lot better
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: work in here when you're winning.
- 1:22:14Speaker 6: You know, I wouldn't know that.
- 1:22:16Speaker 5: I mean I haven't seen a playoff one yet I
- 1:22:19Speaker 5: think that the stuff that you guys mentioned are kind
- 1:22:22Speaker 5: of I think they're factual without question. I just like
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: when you go from like I took the question is
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: like you go from year to year, like you know,
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: what's changing, what's what are you learning? How do you
- 1:22:32Speaker 5: how do you sort of I guess maybe I could say,
- 1:22:36Speaker 5: like just with the advent of all the social stuff,
- 1:22:39Speaker 5: I'm learning more about that. You know, like read it,
- 1:22:42Speaker 5: we would read it. We were talking about the guy
- 1:22:45Speaker 5: that poked fun at the dinosaurs about video. I understand
- 1:22:49Speaker 5: that everybody has video. I just I kind of push
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: back it. I don't. I've never been in my life
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: someone who wants to do things because everybody else is
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: doing them, and I unfortunately that's the way the world now.
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: Everybody's doing it. So if you're not doing it, you're
- 1:23:02Speaker 5: getting left behind.
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: Yeah, well that's business sometimes.
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: But that's that's like sort of I would say that
- 1:23:09Speaker 5: the last maybe ten years, we've really changed.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: A key is to be the first house to do
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: it again again.
- 1:23:16Speaker 5: That's what I say all the time. I need to
- 1:23:18Speaker 5: go to a meeting with someone tells me what's going
- 1:23:20Speaker 5: to be really big next year, not what was really
- 1:23:23Speaker 5: big last year. I don't need anybody to do I
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: have any bean counter can tell me what worked last year.
- 1:23:29Speaker 5: I need to have someone be cutting edge and tell
- 1:23:31Speaker 5: me what's going to be the next big on what's coming,
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: and then let's do it as well as please.
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: Get ahead of it.
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: I was thinking a little bit more about it though,
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: just like, what have I learned having watched up close
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: football for five years, you know, five seasons now, and
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: I mean kind of the stupid little one that came
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: to mind is just I think as a fan, you
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: get really excited about undrafted free agents of undrafted rookies
- 1:23:53Speaker 4: and sixth and seventh round draft picks, and I think like.
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: Part of watching so many of those.
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: Guys is you realize how rare it is that you
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: really find a special player in that group. And you know,
- 1:24:03Speaker 4: like every year when we do the roundup of the udfas,
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: you're like, you know, which guy.
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: Could it be?
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: And you know and and they certainly have a record
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: of those guys making it. But it's it's I don't know,
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: I don't want to say I'm jaded more now, but
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: it's like you realize when you see these guys out
- 1:24:17Speaker 4: there in camp the impression that you kind of get
- 1:24:19Speaker 4: out it's usually who they are.
- 1:24:21Speaker 13: You know.
- 1:24:22Speaker 4: It's not like you're gonna get out there and see
- 1:24:23Speaker 4: some guy who isn't really getting it or you.
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: Know, and then they're gonna be a star. Like with
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: you know, Nick hil Harry, Like.
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: From the minute we watched him and I didn't even
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: see him in OTAs. I got him in training camp,
- 1:24:33Speaker 4: but like, you know, that's a guy who is a fan.
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: You're like, first round pick, he looks pretty good. Was
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: I totally on board with the pick? Not really, but man,
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: I mean look at him. He looks the part.
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: And then you start to see him play and it's
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: like this guy can't play like what you know? And
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: then and then it gets into the thinking.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: Like what did the scouts see? Like what a bill see?
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: Like if I'm sitting here as a guy who you know,
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: admittedly has watched a lot of football but has never
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: been formally trained to to you know, really look at
- 1:24:57Speaker 4: the nuances like if I'm seeing this guy can't play
- 1:24:59Speaker 4: within five minutes, like how are these scouts that are
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: coming out here to how did my draft pick that
- 1:25:03Speaker 4: I was pounding the table for do you know that's
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: kind of like what has been interesting to me is
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: really just the volume of getting to see all these
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: practices and.
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: Over the years and you really, you know.
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: Start to develop this whole catalog of players that you've
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: seen or that.
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: You know, things that you've been missing, that kind of stuff.
- 1:25:19Speaker 6: Yeah, along those lines, because I couldn't agree more. You
- 1:25:21Speaker 6: also start to learn about not overrating guys like those
- 1:25:25Speaker 6: types of players too quickly and like getting too attached
- 1:25:29Speaker 6: to I always go back to poor Maurice Harris, right,
- 1:25:31Speaker 6: like my first year covering training camp and Ota is
- 1:25:35Speaker 6: like the whole the whole offseason. He had a great
- 1:25:38Speaker 6: spring and everybody was talking about him as a guy,
- 1:25:40Speaker 6: and he didn't even end up making the team, Like
- 1:25:42Speaker 6: it wasn't even close. And so you just start to
- 1:25:45Speaker 6: learn to be like maybe a little bit more patient
- 1:25:47Speaker 6: with your takes of like okay, let's let's see this
- 1:25:50Speaker 6: like in the dog days of training camp, if you will,
- 1:25:53Speaker 6: or or anything.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: The opposite is.
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: True though, too, Like with like a guy like a
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: when you like you start to notice a guy is
- 1:25:59Speaker 4: starting to play, you're seeing him out there a lot
- 1:26:01Speaker 4: with it, you know, the first few raps or whatever's
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: going on.
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: This guy's out there.
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: They're trying them out at different places, like you know
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: those things are are still true to me? That all right,
- 1:26:09Speaker 4: there's something brewing there, but you know, getting excited about
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: every you know, Tom Dick and Harry they pull off
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: the scraps sheet.
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: You know, you don't he can't really do it anymore.
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: Earlier in the show, one of our listeners said that
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: the new set reminds them of the Seinfeld episode where
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: Seinfeld had his kitchen remodeled. Another I can't believe that
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: I'm that so far, but I can't either. Another emailer,
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: this is Chris from Arizona, says it reminds him of
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: a different episode Seinfeld, the one.
- 1:26:36Speaker 5: Where I know this one Harry Seinfeld.
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: That was one of the greatest episodes ever. I laughed
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: the first time I saw that, like out loud several times.
- 1:26:48Speaker 5: Some of the things like Kramer's like physical comedy and
- 1:26:51Speaker 5: like over the.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: Top, like some of the best episodes are his dementia.
- 1:26:55Speaker 5: But kind of never really you know, it's like, yeah,
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: I mean, I get what he's doing, but like some
- 1:26:59Speaker 5: of the the the quirky ideas, like remember when he
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: put like the the garbage disposal, and he's like making.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: The little like he goes into these fantasy worlds, you know, and.
- 1:27:12Speaker 5: He goes like when he had a job and he's like,
- 1:27:15Speaker 5: we're going to have to let you go.
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: I don't believe he goes.
- 1:27:18Speaker 5: That's what makes it so.
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: Difficult, or or the one where it's a you know how,
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: like sometimes the show starts and there's like a little
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: segment before the commercial. This one was what happens in
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: Jerry's apartment? What does Kramer do in Jerry's apartment? Jerry's
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: not there, and it's a whole thing, like he takes
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: apart the phone, he's rearranging the furniture. He's yelling at
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: the guy in the street come on up here and say,
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: and then the guy's banging on the door. And then
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: Jerry comes home and Kramer's just falling asleep on the
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: couch and everything's back to normal, and Jerry just sees
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: the coaster in the wrong place, like, oh, come on,
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: Like he has no idea what happened in his apartment
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: while he was gone. You don't remember that, No, I do?
- 1:27:55Speaker 5: I know exactly what you're talking about. Those are the
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: things about Kramer that you know like Caromerica. You know
- 1:28:00Speaker 5: he has his intern.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: Another great one. Yeah. By the way, Elaine is going
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: to be joining us for lunch. Elaine, When did this happen?
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: Darren? I would not have been able to come up
- 1:28:12Speaker 5: with her name. Darren.
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: The actors Jared, the Kenny Rogers Roaster Chicken.
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: That one, Catch the humble brag.
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: That's the one where it's like it comes like a.
- 1:28:24Speaker 5: It was a very subtle bag.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a lot of it.
- 1:28:27Speaker 5: Was the actor's name, Jared, Jared.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: He's also a writer, Catch the subtle the inside.
- 1:28:35Speaker 5: I worked in l A. I was in the industry.
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: Guarantee, there's a writer to collaborator.
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: Remember the uh intern we used to Lena Strowsky You
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: here she was, Yes, her friend was the guy who
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: wrote Soup Nazi Spike by Ferriston. Yeah, Spike.
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: Humble show with him too, got a Spike Ones.
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: I did a show with it. Oh. By the way,
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: I finished Acolyte.
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: Oh, I haven't finished yet.
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: I thought it was good. It was good eight episodes.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: No I did what what? What?
- 1:29:10Speaker 5: Don't you even thought?
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: Why was it horrible?
- 1:29:14Speaker 6: Overproduced?
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: I haven't finished.
- 1:29:17Speaker 6: Terrible acting, just terrible.
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: Star Wars things The acting isn't what you're watching it for.
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: Let's face it, right, garbage, you know.
- 1:29:26Speaker 5: And I think if you want to talk now, you're
- 1:29:28Speaker 5: going to have to talk on the air because we
- 1:29:29Speaker 5: have no other way to hear you.
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: Oh right, you guys not hear me in there.
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: I can't out. I enjoyed it. It wasn't great, but
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: it was. It was enjoyable, you know, And I'm curious
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: to see if they go somewhere with it. Chris also
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: says I can't wait to play as Paul Parolo from
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: Everett in Road to Glory and the New Madden. I
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: don't know what that's about.
- 1:29:52Speaker 5: So the college football one came out started.
- 1:29:56Speaker 4: No, no, yeah, well I got to hear this. We've
- 1:29:58Speaker 4: got to take over here with just sorry, Paul hijacked it.
- 1:30:01Speaker 6: But that's okay, No, no, you go first.
- 1:30:03Speaker 5: Just my son's friend is in it. Yeah, oh really?
- 1:30:07Speaker 5: Oh for the Penn State?
- 1:30:08Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: Oh really?
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: You get any money.
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: Getting money for that?
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: Yeah, like a lot, like life changes. I don't not.
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: I wouldn't say life changing money, and he kind of
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: comes from money, so.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: Okay, but it would need a lot to change.
- 1:30:21Speaker 5: It's it's significant and the thing that was really and
- 1:30:25Speaker 5: he tore his achilles unfortunately, but.
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: In the game or in real life.
- 1:30:30Speaker 5: In real life. But the thing that's that's significant for
- 1:30:35Speaker 5: him is like they have like the starters for everybody,
- 1:30:39Speaker 5: and then it's only like the top I think sixty
- 1:30:42Speaker 5: five players or something like that are in it, and
- 1:30:46Speaker 5: he's in it. Yeah, like as an incoming freshman with
- 1:30:49Speaker 5: a torn achilles. Like that's not bad, that's crazy.
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: That's really they have.
- 1:30:53Speaker 5: They have designs on him is the game though. It's funny.
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: I haven't played the game yet, but it's funny. It
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: doesn't have it. The pitcher is not him. It's like
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: an age oh never.
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: I mean even the Patriots barely look like that.
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: Well I'd always thought that was by design because Bill
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: just said no.
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: Sometimes they're exact and then other times.
- 1:31:09Speaker 5: His hometown is like with a school that he ended
- 1:31:11Speaker 5: up going to is Brookline. That's pretty because he transferred
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: from Fenwick to Dexter Southfield, so his hometown is listed
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: as Brookline not Boxford. Okay, but pretty cool to have
- 1:31:24Speaker 5: like your son's friend kid in one of.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: Those games made myself and Madden as they say, Yeah, he's.
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: A good kid too.
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: That's Alex George.
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: You know, like, what does the depth chart look at
- 1:31:36Speaker 4: like Penn State? If you're a freshman, are you like,
- 1:31:37Speaker 4: well on the seventh tackle right now?
- 1:31:38Speaker 15: Like?
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: Is that how?
- 1:31:39Speaker 5: I think he's crazy? On the defensive end, it's crazy,
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: but not like one defensive end like the two to
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: two and three him one of those deals. Nice, but
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: he's not going to play this year.
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: Adam and Louisiana, you've been there and give him some tips. Yeah.
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: Fred is absolutely right about the phones causing Rex. Now,
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: I drive twenty minutes to and from work every day,
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: and I constantly see at least ten people meet a
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: trip on their phone driving They end up sitting in
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: the passing way and going ten miles an hour under
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: the speed limit. The worst one I saw was a
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: guy watching a video while driving.
- 1:32:16Speaker 5: See that's different. I don't mind if people are on
- 1:32:18Speaker 5: the phone talking and I know you're supposed to be
- 1:32:20Speaker 5: hands free now, but it doesn't bother me if you're
- 1:32:22Speaker 5: having a conversation and you're driving. It's when you're looking
- 1:32:24Speaker 5: at the He's right. I see people blatantly looking at
- 1:32:28Speaker 5: their phones as they're driving, and I'm like, get away
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: from me.
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: A lot of bad drivers out there.
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: Bad caddying, badah David and Wisconsin, would you consider moving
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: your NFL picks you make on Thursdays to Patriots dot
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: dot com and opening them up to listeners. Beat the
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: Patriots unfiltered staff over the season, and get a put shirt,
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: maybe a little fan and game.
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: I don't know. You don't know if you're gonna beat
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: me though, good luck.
- 1:32:55Speaker 6: You have to ask Christopher Eires.
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: I don't know. If you get the T shirt.
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: It seems like a lot of work.
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: I don't need more people beating me, pushing me down
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: towards that came.
- 1:33:03Speaker 5: And oh, I don't think it'd be very hard to beat.
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: Us, certainly not.
- 1:33:09Speaker 5: That's true. I have been quite I have been quite
- 1:33:11Speaker 5: good the last two seasons.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: I'm and you've heard me say this, Paul. I think
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: anyone who can't get a good record straight up just should,
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: you know, turn in their credentials. But when you see
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: a lot of these things, well back when they used
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: to have newspapers they had straight up and like people
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: would have terrible.
- 1:33:30Speaker 5: Time for me to cancel my globe. By the way, yeah,
- 1:33:33Speaker 5: I did that yesterday.
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: About the size of a napkin.
- 1:33:35Speaker 5: Every day this week. It has not been there when
- 1:33:37Speaker 5: I've left for work.
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: Oh, somebody's stealing it.
- 1:33:39Speaker 5: Maybe No, I get it when I get home. Oh okay,
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: that doesn't do me any good.
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: What about your crossword?
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: Well I bring in the next day. He knows me
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: so well. Grandpa's been there with his glasses and crosswords
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: this morning. But it was from yesterday's paper. Hello, Michael, just.
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: Crosswork, Emery writes in from your descriptions of guys like
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: Josh Allen and Peyton Manning handling difficult, difficult rookie seasons,
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: it sounds like a good standard for readiness. It sounds
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: like a good standard for readiness is something like, is
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: Drake may ready to handle failure? Is that an accurate assessment?
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: What will be some indicators to you that he won't
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: break down when things go poorly?
- 1:34:27Speaker 5: I think this is a really difficult thing to assess,
- 1:34:30Speaker 5: because when a guy has initial failure and then turns
- 1:34:34Speaker 5: out to be like Sam Darnold or Zach Wilson, is
- 1:34:39Speaker 5: that because he couldn't handle initial failure or because he
- 1:34:43Speaker 5: wasn't as good as we thought he was. And I
- 1:34:46Speaker 5: think in both of those cases, I don't know the answer.
- 1:34:49Speaker 5: I think they have physical ability, but maybe they just
- 1:34:51Speaker 5: weren't that good, you know, whereas Peyton Manning and Josh
- 1:34:54Speaker 5: Allen were good enough to overcome their initial you know, failures,
- 1:35:00Speaker 5: is that because they were just that much more mentally strong.
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: Maybe yeah, But I don't I don't know how you
- 1:35:05Speaker 5: guys look at it. I mean, I think it's fascinating.
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: I mean, I think that's one of the most interesting
- 1:35:09Speaker 4: things of this year is going to be because right
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: now it's all sunshine and rainbows. Like Drake May had
- 1:35:13Speaker 4: a great college career, he was a third overall pick everything.
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: You know, it's basically been positive. And you know, we
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: saw it with Mac too.
- 1:35:20Speaker 4: It was similarly positive, maybe not quite to the same level,
- 1:35:23Speaker 4: but all of a sudden you realize you're playing in
- 1:35:26Speaker 4: the NFL, which is in playing quarterback, which is one
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: of the hardest jobs you can have in the world,
- 1:35:30Speaker 4: and adversity starts to happen. And you know, we saw
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: Mac with I mean, I like, and I'd like to
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: just say, like, I don't want to spend this whole
- 1:35:37Speaker 4: year comparing this whole year to Mac Jones, Like.
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: I really wish I couldn't do it. I wish I
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: could just stop.
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: But you know, it's the most recent example, and it
- 1:35:43Speaker 4: was a first round pick and it had some success
- 1:35:45Speaker 4: early on and then it failed, and you know, you
- 1:35:47Speaker 4: do want to learn from it. But I think we
- 1:35:48Speaker 4: saw him dealing with failure. It wasn't It wasn't easy
- 1:35:52Speaker 4: for me.
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: And that's a good one because I think that mac
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: Jones did show that he was not able to handle
- 1:35:58Speaker 5: his initial failures. He didn't have much football adversity in
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: his life heading into the pros, so I don't think
- 1:36:04Speaker 5: he handled it really well, and that might be why. Ultimately,
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: my bigger thing for him was a was ability. I
- 1:36:11Speaker 5: think if he was a better player, he would have
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: been able to put the failures behind him quicker.
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: And he'd have less failures. Yeah right, Yeah.
- 1:36:18Speaker 6: I've thought a lot about this obviously with the draft
- 1:36:20Speaker 6: of why does a Sam Darnald or Zach Wilson, Why
- 1:36:26Speaker 6: do those guys fail but guys that are probably pretty
- 1:36:30Speaker 6: comparable from a skill set standpoint succeed in the league.
- 1:36:34Speaker 6: And I the answer is that there's really just no
- 1:36:38Speaker 6: single answer, right, Like it's a million different things. But
- 1:36:42Speaker 6: ultimately I kind of said, where Paul does which is
- 1:36:44Speaker 6: that probably that those guys just weren't as good as
- 1:36:47Speaker 6: we thought they were, or they you know, it just
- 1:36:49Speaker 6: wasn't they didn't have the talent to be you know,
- 1:36:52Speaker 6: that type of player that can bounce back and things
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: like that. But you often wonder if in a different
- 1:36:57Speaker 6: especially Sam Darnald I thought was going to be a
- 1:36:59Speaker 6: good player. I just wonder if in a different if
- 1:37:04Speaker 6: we were in a different world, like if we were
- 1:37:06Speaker 6: in a different you know, time zone or whatever, if
- 1:37:10Speaker 6: he ends up being not a Hall of Famer, but
- 1:37:13Speaker 6: he ends up being an NFL quarterback.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: In metaverse, there's a place where he's right.
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: No, I do think that all of these super I
- 1:37:21Speaker 5: think all of these guys, like case by case, all
- 1:37:25Speaker 5: a number of variables could have changed the narrative, you know,
- 1:37:28Speaker 5: and that's one of them for Sam Donald, Like if
- 1:37:30Speaker 5: he had gone to Evans, God, Kyle Shanahan, you know,
- 1:37:35Speaker 5: maybe maybe his whole career would have been different. Who knows,
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: And everybody's individually different, Like David Carr, Like, I'm not
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: telling you that there's never been a guy who played
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: too soon, got battered and bruised and got bad habits,
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: and he had everything that you needed, but it didn't
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: work out because they played like and I do think
- 1:37:57Speaker 5: David Carr probably falls into that case.
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: That's what everyone says.
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: Okay, I don't think David Carr was going to be
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: Tom Brady, No, Like, I just I don't think it
- 1:38:06Speaker 5: was that. I think he probably could have had a
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: serviceable NFL career. I don't think he was like this
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: budding pro bowler all pro that was ruined because he
- 1:38:15Speaker 5: got a record amount of sacks.
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: Five past five hundred is the ace ticket hot line.
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: Todd's on the line, Starry, to make your hold on.
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: I forgot we had phones. What's up, Todd?
- 1:38:25Speaker 8: I don't give me time to hear Tod the gears.
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: Maybe maybe he said the hell Todd Todd? All right,
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: God Todd.
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: It's like, well you're saying, Paul, It's like that's where
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: we kind of live now. It's like, you know, you
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: take like the we have the perfect quarterback? This kid?
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: Is it just the arm athletic everything you want?
- 1:38:42Speaker 4: Saw everything? What does he need to get to be
- 1:38:45Speaker 4: the greatest of all time? Like how important is the
- 1:38:46Speaker 4: offensive line? How important is the offensive coordinator? How important
- 1:38:49Speaker 4: is the head coach? How important are the weapons. How
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: important is the running game?
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: You know, It's like you.
- 1:38:53Speaker 4: Start to pull all these threads out, and when you
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: started with just you know, a great quarterback, it's just
- 1:38:58Speaker 4: it gets more and more complicated, and you want, you know,
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: what's Patrick Mahomes without Andy Reid?
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: You know what is Trevor Lawrence with Andy Reid?
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: All those different The most under sold portion of all
- 1:39:09Speaker 5: of this is, you know, why do so many top
- 1:39:11Speaker 5: picks at quarterback fail? Because the vast majority of those
- 1:39:16Speaker 5: quarterbacks go to terrible teams. No one ever says that,
- 1:39:20Speaker 5: No one ever talks about it simple, you know, and
- 1:39:22Speaker 5: people like, you know, I heard one of the shows
- 1:39:25Speaker 5: that might have been Mike too on this one, Like
- 1:39:28Speaker 5: give me an example of a guy who inherited a
- 1:39:31Speaker 5: terrible situation and succeeded. You know, he stepped into a
- 1:39:36Speaker 5: really bad spot. And a lot of people give Andrew
- 1:39:39Speaker 5: Luck as the answer. Like there's a terrible team that
- 1:39:43Speaker 5: won two games. They completely were rebuilding the roster and
- 1:39:46Speaker 5: turning it over new coach, and he was good right away.
- 1:39:50Speaker 5: He kind of games. He inherited a bad team and
- 1:39:54Speaker 5: was pretty good right away. Most guys that's not going
- 1:39:58Speaker 5: to happen for you know, it's it's hard to like
- 1:40:01Speaker 5: take like Chicago right now with Caleb Williams, and I
- 1:40:04Speaker 5: think it was them because that's on paper, seems like
- 1:40:10Speaker 5: a pretty good situation with I think they won something
- 1:40:16Speaker 5: like five or six of their last eight or nine
- 1:40:18Speaker 5: last year, so they were kind of coming on they
- 1:40:21Speaker 5: you know, they go they well get Swift. They drafted
- 1:40:24Speaker 5: a Dounza, I think, right, they got Romanza and they
- 1:40:28Speaker 5: got Cole Comet, they signed Alan, they put that's a
- 1:40:32Speaker 5: pretty good situation. You're putting your number one overall pick
- 1:40:35Speaker 5: in if he fails, you're not gonna be able to say, well,
- 1:40:37Speaker 5: they got nothing around him. You can't say that for
- 1:40:41Speaker 5: Caleb Williams if he if he doesn't pan out. But
- 1:40:43Speaker 5: how many guys get drafted with the number one overall
- 1:40:46Speaker 5: pick and have that as opposed to what Bryce Young
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: inherited last year?
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:40:50Speaker 6: And I think that's everybody's fear about putting Drake May
- 1:40:52Speaker 6: into this situation, is that they are probably more the
- 1:40:56Speaker 6: Patriots are probably more in the Carolina Panthers Brice category
- 1:41:00Speaker 6: then the Bears in Caleb Williams's category. So if you
- 1:41:04Speaker 6: feel that way, that's why you're saying, I don't want
- 1:41:07Speaker 6: me anywhere near the field as a rookie because this
- 1:41:10Speaker 6: team is not ready for him. And a lot of
- 1:41:13Speaker 6: people would say that that's why all these quarterbacks fail.
- 1:41:17Speaker 6: I would say that if he's good enough, he'll over
- 1:41:20Speaker 6: he'll be the one driving the bus.
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: But we'll see, yeah, I mean Bryce Young. They had
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: a terrible season, right obviously, but like we'll see, like
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: if Bryce Young turns into a puddle, you know, or
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: is Bryce Young really that good? I don't. I don't know.
- 1:41:37Speaker 5: If he goes like three or four years and he
- 1:41:38Speaker 5: plays like he did last year, I'll say bust. Yeah,
- 1:41:41Speaker 5: he can't play. I'm not ready to call him a
- 1:41:42Speaker 5: bust now.
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: No, not yet.
- 1:41:44Speaker 5: He had a bad rookie year by all accounts, like
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: by all metrics, he didn't play well. Yeah, but I
- 1:41:50Speaker 5: also would like to see him play a little bit
- 1:41:52Speaker 5: and see if it gets better, see if there's any
- 1:41:55Speaker 5: development there or and it's just not that number.
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: I have to I didn't watch any Carolina Panther games,
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: maybe a few snaps here and there, so I don't
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: really know the details, Like, you know, was it all
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: Bryce Young? You know, how much of it was around
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: him was the word Yeah.
- 1:42:14Speaker 5: Like it was basically Adam feeling and that's it's.
- 1:42:16Speaker 6: Like a thirty three year old out of the corpse.
- 1:42:19Speaker 5: So yeah, literally had a decent year follow me off
- 1:42:22Speaker 5: my bench.
- 1:42:23Speaker 6: It was it was there was a lot of Bryce
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: Young holding the football looking around with five guys blanketed,
- 1:42:30Speaker 6: being like where am I supposed to go?
- 1:42:31Speaker 4: And that's the thing that I liked though about Drake
- 1:42:33Speaker 4: may is with Bryce Mink you mentioned like his side,
- 1:42:36Speaker 4: like those are like the things that when it's not
- 1:42:38Speaker 4: happening and then you start to focus more on what
- 1:42:40Speaker 4: the shortcomings are.
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: And I'm glad with like Drake that even if.
- 1:42:43Speaker 4: It doesn't work out, like I don't think we're going
- 1:42:45Speaker 4: to get to the point where he was just not athletic.
- 1:42:47Speaker 4: He just doesn't have the right size, Like he's got
- 1:42:48Speaker 4: all those traits, so that won't be any.
- 1:42:50Speaker 5: Of the excuse.
- 1:42:50Speaker 3: It'll just because he can't play it.
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: But going back to Bryce Young, he didn't get hurt
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: right like you might have had a few might so
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: he didn't get hurt. So the question is terrible season,
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: but is there value that he got out of being
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: out there for those games? Did he learn anything, so
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: now he knows what it looks when it's bad.
- 1:43:13Speaker 4: Yeah, well, if you believe what they're saying out of
- 1:43:15Speaker 4: OTA's it was, oh, he you know, looks like it's
- 1:43:17Speaker 4: all clicking, you know.
- 1:43:17Speaker 3: I mean, of course that's what you kind of expect
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: to hear.
- 1:43:20Speaker 4: But I mean, at least what they're saying down there,
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: I saw some of that. You know, sounds like he
- 1:43:25Speaker 4: looks like he's in command now. But again, I think
- 1:43:28Speaker 4: the weapons and you know, the team around him is
- 1:43:30Speaker 4: going to be the problem. And they unloaded Brian Burns.
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: I mean, it's it's a total redo on the defensive
- 1:43:34Speaker 4: side of the ball.
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:43:35Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean they didn't have a first round pick
- 1:43:36Speaker 6: because they traded it for Bryce you on last year,
- 1:43:39Speaker 6: so that was a big part of it. But you know,
- 1:43:41Speaker 6: to doce his point, this is why I got so
- 1:43:43Speaker 6: enamored with Drake Bay and the draft process was because
- 1:43:45Speaker 6: his margin for error is should be a little bit
- 1:43:49Speaker 6: bigger than these other guys because he's six foot five
- 1:43:52Speaker 6: and two hundred and twenty pounds and as a canon arms,
- 1:43:54Speaker 6: so all the physical tools are going to be there
- 1:43:57Speaker 6: for him just off the jump. So a guy Bryce Young,
- 1:44:00Speaker 6: he has to overcome the fact that he's small. Yeah,
- 1:44:03Speaker 6: you know, and that's gonna always be something that he's
- 1:44:07Speaker 6: going to have to overgain.
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:44:09Speaker 15: Uh.
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: Samir in Maine writes in going to an open practice
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: with a buddy and didn't know what time we should
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: plan out arriving gates open at ten, but should we
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: get there for nine or nine thirty? Also, can we
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: bring our own food in a cooler? I don't believe
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: coolers are allowed to clear back.
- 1:44:26Speaker 5: You can bring a cool clear, but.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: There's plenty of food trucks and stuff like that.
- 1:44:30Speaker 5: And it depends if you have a very specific area
- 1:44:33Speaker 5: that you want to sit.
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: We get there early, well, let's give me the insider.
- 1:44:36Speaker 3: You want to be the inside information. That's what you do.
- 1:44:39Speaker 4: Get there early and then be lined to one of
- 1:44:42Speaker 4: the trees on the hill overlooking the practice fields and
- 1:44:45Speaker 4: sit in the shade under that tree.
- 1:44:47Speaker 5: So how early do you you'll be there nine?
- 1:44:50Speaker 4: You got to probably be close to when it start.
- 1:44:52Speaker 4: The door is open, but that's a good spot to be.
- 1:44:55Speaker 4: You know, you'll see the bleachers, but those are under
- 1:44:58Speaker 4: the sun and it's the hottest place on the planet.
- 1:45:00Speaker 4: So go sitting under a tree it's literally the spot
- 1:45:03Speaker 4: to be. Yeah, it is, and I'm still pitching it
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: to the organization and we just put a shade over
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: for the fans.
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: If that's all I'm asking.
- 1:45:10Speaker 5: You don't have to be spending money on that, suld
- 1:45:13Speaker 5: be getting money.
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: Paul's right. If you have a specific place you want
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: to get, you better get there early because they do
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: line up at the gate before ten and then there's
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: a stamparpee.
- 1:45:22Speaker 5: I would just want to go to the practice and
- 1:45:25Speaker 5: I would just get there at eleven and I would
- 1:45:27Speaker 5: go in and I'd find a spot. I mean, there's
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: spots to to hang. But if you want to be,
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: like Mike said, under a tree to get some shade,
- 1:45:34Speaker 5: you definitely do want to avoid the bleachers if you can.
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: And I know that's where the vast majority of the
- 1:45:40Speaker 5: fans sit. But it you can bake in the bleachers, yeah,
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: not in a good way.
- 1:45:44Speaker 3: It's uh.
- 1:45:45Speaker 5: I mean that I didn't say get baked.
- 1:45:47Speaker 4: It's from Matt, but yeah, it's uh. I mean, there
- 1:45:51Speaker 4: are always spots, but I think, like like you said, Paul,
- 1:45:54Speaker 4: if you're going to be there on the weekend, to
- 1:45:55Speaker 4: be be aware it's more busy.
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: You know people come out, but if you're on.
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: A weekday, especially couple days, a couple of weeks into camp,
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: I wouldn't worry too much about it.
- 1:46:03Speaker 3: Usually the crowds kind of taper off.
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: And I'll tell you you might have a better time
- 1:46:06Speaker 5: this year because that fun, fun, fun, Red Sox will
- 1:46:09Speaker 5: really starting fun fun, you know, of fever grips.
- 1:46:12Speaker 6: Them, are we gonna? Are we going to get the jail?
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: Come on? So a lot of people are and what
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: Paul said earlier could be the reason. Like he's just
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: an abrasive guy, and that's as simple as it is.
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: And people don't back them up. But I hear a
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: lot of people they're mad at Nike because, you know,
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: big corporate, you know, flexing their muscles just because they
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: spent the money, blah blah blah. And they're mad at
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: USA Basketball for giving in and allowing Nike to pull
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: their weight around. And I say this, first of all,
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: if you're the main sponsor of the team, I think
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: you should have some say first of all, especially when
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: you're talking about a guy who in the past has
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: said bad things about your company, right, so hey, can
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: we maybe avoid that situation and not have him on
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: the team. And by the way, that's not gonna hurt
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: your chances to win a gold medal. I don't blame
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: USA Basketball for kind of listening to if that's the case,
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: to kind of listening to Nike in this In this case,
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: you know, like you've got a guy who, you know,
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: God knows what he's gonna do, is you're gonna use
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: this as a platform to say more bad things about us.
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: So if we can avoid that, you know, it's you know,
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: could you work with us on that? And I get it,
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: like it sounds like corporate America, you know, you know, uh,
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: going against the one guy. But I it is about money.
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: You know, they're spending a lot of money on USA Basketball,
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: and USA basketball needs that money. I kind of, you know,
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: look at it from the management standpoint, I cannot. I
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: can understand where, hey, if we can avoid that situation,
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: let's do it. You know. And you know, and like
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: you said, Paul, if you're gonna be that guy where
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: you know, speak out and you know, have that principle,
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: this consequences the consequences when it comes to money.
- 1:48:04Speaker 5: And you have to stand by it. And that's right, Listen,
- 1:48:06Speaker 5: I like Jalen Brown as much as anybody else as
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: a player. And I would never tell any athlete or
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: any person that they shouldn't feel comfortable stating their beliefs
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: on social issues or anything else whatever. You know, you know,
- 1:48:22Speaker 5: obviously within reason, you know, you can't just you know,
- 1:48:25Speaker 5: it's free speech, but you can't yell fire in a
- 1:48:28Speaker 5: burning building, you know, in a regular building. But with
- 1:48:32Speaker 5: with Jalen Brown, there are consequences. It's like I would
- 1:48:36Speaker 5: feel better about him if he didn't then backtrack these things,
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: like you know, you're you're retweeting Kyrie when he had
- 1:48:44Speaker 5: the anti Semitic comments, and then you're like, oh, I
- 1:48:46Speaker 5: didn't realize that. Well you're doing it and you're not.
- 1:48:49Speaker 5: Like I'm going to take issue with with Nike and
- 1:48:53Speaker 5: sweatshops and whatnot, but then I'm going to say, you know,
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: I have I have more things to say about that,
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: but before another time. It's like Muhammad Ali went to
- 1:49:01Speaker 5: prison and his champions hey for his beliefs, right, you know,
- 1:49:05Speaker 5: like if you if you have different opinions, ye stand
- 1:49:10Speaker 5: by them.
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: Stand by them, you know, like we work for the patriots, right,
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: we have sponsors. If I like I was mad at
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: one of our sponsors for whatever, And I got on
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: Twitter and started bad mouthing the sponsor. That sponsor would
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: have every right to go to the page and say, hey,
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: what of your employees is really, you know, saying bad
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: stuff about we're paying you seven figures a year to
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: put our name. Can you talk to him? Can you
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: do something about that? They had have every right to
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: do that.
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: Yeah, we'd never did that, Jersey Mike Ston't worry.
- 1:49:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I just think that you said it originally. Just
- 1:49:45Speaker 6: if Jalen Brown was the difference between them winning a
- 1:49:48Speaker 6: gold medal.
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: Right, and that's why I said, we're not hurting your
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: chances to win a gold.
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: Then I think he'd be on the team, right. Like
- 1:49:54Speaker 6: I use this example yesterday I was talking to somebody
- 1:49:57Speaker 6: about this. If this was Nikola Jokic and so and
- 1:50:01Speaker 6: they Nikola Jokic was saying something about a Serbian sponsor,
- 1:50:04Speaker 6: then the Serbian basketball Federation would probably be like, well,
- 1:50:07Speaker 6: to be honest with you, he's our only good player.
- 1:50:09Speaker 5: Right, so and they put we'll talk to him and
- 1:50:11Speaker 5: get him to say those things again, but he will play.
- 1:50:14Speaker 6: But I and I love Jalen Brown him, everybody. I
- 1:50:17Speaker 6: literally came in here wearing a Celtics championship gear of
- 1:50:20Speaker 6: the day after they won the title. Okay, but he
- 1:50:23Speaker 6: is probably realistically the seventh or eighth best player on
- 1:50:26Speaker 6: the team. So if you if you really think about.
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: It, you just lost your green team card.
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: By the way, I'm just being a later, I'm.
- 1:50:35Speaker 6: Just being honest about it. Like I you know, he's
- 1:50:37Speaker 6: he's a very good player, but that's a team of
- 1:50:40Speaker 6: very very good players. So he's probably be a bench
- 1:50:45Speaker 6: coming off the bench for Team USA. He's probably the
- 1:50:48Speaker 6: seventh or eighth best player on the team that they're
- 1:50:51Speaker 6: going to roll to a gold medal. They're going to roll.
- 1:50:53Speaker 6: They beat Serbia yesterday by thirty points and Serbia is
- 1:50:56Speaker 6: probably the second best team in the world. Point so
- 1:51:00Speaker 6: there as long as like something, you know, the meteor
- 1:51:03Speaker 6: doesn't fall from the sky and hit their hotel, like,
- 1:51:06Speaker 6: they're gonna win the gold medal. So for all that
- 1:51:10Speaker 6: being said, for Nike, if they're just like, well, can
- 1:51:13Speaker 6: you put Devin Booker, who's a third team All NBA
- 1:51:16Speaker 6: on the team instead of Jalen Brown instead? Like is
- 1:51:20Speaker 6: that okay? And like TM USA is like yeah, for
- 1:51:22Speaker 6: the ten minutes that Devin Booker is gonna play in
- 1:51:25Speaker 6: the Olympics.
- 1:51:25Speaker 5: We'll do it.
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:51:27Speaker 3: Well, growing up, Nike was a four letter word in
- 1:51:29Speaker 3: my house, so.
- 1:51:31Speaker 6: Well it's literally a four Yeah.
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: And listen which one of these sneaker companies don't have
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: Chinese labor making their stuff? And they all do right?
- 1:51:42Speaker 3: Oh, my dad used to go to Korea to watch.
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: Yeah, the fact it's all cheap labor. I mean, Converse,
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: were they made in America? Were they the only ones
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: that made it?
- 1:51:52Speaker 5: They were?
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: Yeah, the old Chuck's Chuck Taylors, Taylors, probably really good
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: for your feet, slabs of rubber.
- 1:52:00Speaker 4: What are those new shoes everybody's been wearing, the big
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: like kind of like orthopedic.
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: The Hocus Focus. Yeah, those aren't new.
- 1:52:05Speaker 3: What's with those things?
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: They're comfortable, They're just they're like clouds. Yeah are they? Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: they've been around for a while. The running crowd really
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: knew about them for years seeing them. Yeah, they're big.
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: How did you find out about them?
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: Focus from the running crowd. I don't run.
- 1:52:22Speaker 5: Who do you know in the running crowd?
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: He runs people?
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I run this place.
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: He's just tennis players to the ground.
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: Let's see Uh, how did you feel, Alchaz.
- 1:52:37Speaker 5: It was a clinic.
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean.
- 1:52:40Speaker 5: Was clearly not healthy, but that was a clinic.
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:52:43Speaker 6: What a day for a Spanya.
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: Oh good day.
- 1:52:45Speaker 5: Yeah, good day for them.
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:52:47Speaker 5: Now he's he's going to need more information that.
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: That was a masterclass.
- 1:52:52Speaker 5: What he did new Alpharez was Spanish and something happened good.
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: And so excited to see what he can do in
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: the US Open. You know, if you could do three
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: of the Grand Slams. Thursday, I was listening this is
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: uh Stevie in Texas. I was listening to the comparison
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: of the Patriots and the Chicago Bulls. Yeah, I understand
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: why we were.
- 1:53:15Speaker 3: They were hoping that you weren't here, and they asked the.
- 1:53:19Speaker 6: Show, and I was like, they really needed me.
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: Okay, read the email and we can get her aware
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: of it on Thursday.
- 1:53:26Speaker 5: So it's great that we're bringing it up at one
- 1:53:27Speaker 5: fifty three.
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: I know, I was listening to the comparisons of the
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: Patriots to the Chicago Bulls. I understand why some would
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: compare the two, considering they both won six titles, had
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: the greatest player of all time and two of the
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: greatest coaches of all time. With that being said, I
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: never really send the Patriots. Never something like the Patriots,
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: like the Bulls, but more like the San Antonio Spurs
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: due to the longevity of their success. I think Pop
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: is more like Bill than Phil Jackson. Also, who would
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: you have as your top five NBA players of all time?
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: Minds Jordan lebron Kareem Magic, Tim Duncan.
- 1:54:00Speaker 5: All right, and you missed you miss Larry Bird.
- 1:54:03Speaker 6: Sorry, sorry, I'm sorry.
- 1:54:06Speaker 5: I didn't know I wouldn't, but I loved him.
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: Remind me of the conversation that said I wish Paul
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: was so they were.
- 1:54:13Speaker 4: Like asking us to compare the Bulls dynasty and the
- 1:54:15Speaker 4: Patriots dynasty because.
- 1:54:17Speaker 5: I kind of agree with his assessment there.
- 1:54:19Speaker 4: Well, my only point that I think I made it
- 1:54:21Speaker 4: was just that, you know, the Patriots was a little longer.
- 1:54:23Speaker 4: It seemed like the Bills were very dominant, but for
- 1:54:25Speaker 4: like an eight year period, whereas the Patriots are longer.
- 1:54:27Speaker 6: But that was well, the Bulls, but they were knocking
- 1:54:29Speaker 6: on the door and they lost to the bad boy Pistons,
- 1:54:32Speaker 6: and they were but.
- 1:54:32Speaker 5: It did abruptly end, no question, But I wonder, I mean,
- 1:54:37Speaker 5: it would have been eight in a row. There's no
- 1:54:38Speaker 5: doubt in my mind if he didn't, he didn't retire,
- 1:54:42Speaker 5: Slash get suspended. Right. But I do think that the
- 1:54:49Speaker 5: the comp to san Antonio to me works better because
- 1:54:52Speaker 5: I do think of I think Popovich is very overrated,
- 1:54:58Speaker 5: but I think he's more like Building than Phil Jackson.
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: In terms of the style.
- 1:55:06Speaker 6: Well, Phil Jackson's nickname was the zen Master. He was
- 1:55:09Speaker 6: like a complete fruitcake, right, Like it's like, you know,
- 1:55:13Speaker 6: more of an ego manager for sure. Text Winter was there,
- 1:55:16Speaker 6: like strategic, He's.
- 1:55:18Speaker 4: The one that come up with the trying triangle offensive
- 1:55:20Speaker 4: innovation that that's technically similar.
- 1:55:22Speaker 6: Like, well that's.
- 1:55:23Speaker 5: Talking basketball now. He was given the triangle offense. I
- 1:55:28Speaker 5: don't know how many three points of three points only
- 1:55:31Speaker 5: the only.
- 1:55:32Speaker 6: Like gripe I had with your your.
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: We were fully aware, we didn't know what the hell
- 1:55:36Speaker 3: we were talking about.
- 1:55:37Speaker 6: So you said that the Bowls three peats were basically
- 1:55:41Speaker 6: the same team, and it was Michael and Scotti the
- 1:55:45Speaker 6: whole time, but the supporting cast changed significant.
- 1:55:49Speaker 5: Robin was just the second three so he was like
- 1:55:52Speaker 5: Gronk Boris Grant.
- 1:55:54Speaker 6: Horace Grant was the first magic see I know a
- 1:55:57Speaker 6: little bit Horace Grant was the first magic the first
- 1:56:00Speaker 6: three peat. Dennis Rodman came in for the second three peat.
- 1:56:03Speaker 6: Tony Kuk coach second.
- 1:56:05Speaker 3: So it's kind of similar.
- 1:56:08Speaker 5: They definitely turned it over, except for just like.
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: Because you're basically playing with six players anyway like that.
- 1:56:17Speaker 4: I mean, it's hard to compare someon any of them.
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, so we weren't that we were right.
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: We were totally right.
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: I know everything about that.
- 1:56:24Speaker 6: It just was like the details, you know.
- 1:56:25Speaker 5: I'm just that Mike's been holding out basketball.
- 1:56:28Speaker 6: And I didn't know you knew triangle offense that I
- 1:56:30Speaker 6: don't know how to.
- 1:56:32Speaker 3: I couldn't put it up on the big boarder.
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: But six and eight in seven years, six and eight
