- 0:00Back with Jim Moore of the Ukon Football Coaches. So it's usf in at
- 0:04the rent On Saturday coach. They're three and four. They put a lot
- 0:08of points on the board, but bore do they give up some points?
- 0:11They gave up fifty six to UAB, fifty six to FAU, and strangely
- 0:17only seventeen to Alabama. How do you figure that they are capable of really
- 0:24great things offensively and defensively. They have done a tremendous job of attacking the
- 0:29transfer portal and bringing in some players from big time programs that have really helped
- 0:34them. They just had a little inconsistency and you know when it's gone downhill
- 0:39for him, as you see by a couple of those scores, has gone
- 0:42downhill. But they're a very, very very capable team. They're incredibly talented
- 0:47football team. You look around their roster from their defensive line to their secondary,
- 0:52to their linebackers, to their offensive line, their quarterback, the receivers,
- 0:55there running backs. They've got talent everywhere. And they're big, they're
- 0:58fast, they're physical life. Like I said, you know, almost their
- 1:00entire offense was recruited by Power five teams and ended up transferring in and so
- 1:07we're talking about one of the more talented teams that will face you know,
- 1:11of the teams that aren't Power five. So you know, when they're on,
- 1:14they're on. You know, they've just had a couple of times when
- 1:17it's it's slipped away from them, and that happens sometimes in this sport.
- 1:21Yeah, they have a common opponent. They beat Rice forty two twenty nine.
- 1:25Their quarterback number seventeen Byram Brown ran fourteen times for almost one hundred yards
- 1:30in that game. He's had one hundred and sixteen carries, six seventy eight
- 1:34seven touchdowns. So here we go again with another running quarterback. What kind
- 1:38of a player is he? He's very good. He's big, he's physical,
- 1:44he's got really good arm talent. He throws a great deep ball.
- 1:47I think he has really good pocket awareness, you know, and when you
- 1:49break down the runs and the run yardage, he's done it in all types
- 1:53of ways. He's done it with designed quarterback runs, he's done it with
- 1:59polls on your on your zone read game, and then he's done it with
- 2:02scrambles. So he presents presents a real challenge to us, and we have
- 2:08to be great in our rush lane so that he can't get out. We
- 2:12have to do a great job in their zone read game, uh you know,
- 2:16of of making sure that we're staying square at the line of scrimmaging great
- 2:21with our eyes. And then you know, they do a good job of
- 2:23getting an extra blocker and using him in there in there to quarterback designed running
- 2:28games and so you know, we have to be able to beat blocks.
- 2:30We have to find a way to add players in to the run game when
- 2:35he's carrying the ball. So it's a heck of a challenge. And uh,
- 2:38you know, they take a ton of shots down the field during the
- 2:42game. He's gonna throw the ball deep eight or nine times a game,
- 2:44which is you know, a lot. Doesn't sound like a lot, but
- 2:46it is a lot. So we have to we have to really play well
- 2:51in order to keep you know, keep this thing contained. About a minute
- 2:54left with Jim Mora. The wide receivers must be blazing fast. Naim Simmons,
- 3:00Ye're both five to ten. The two guys that make most of the
- 3:01catches Nam Simmons five ten two, Sean Atkins five ten, one seventy two.
- 3:07These guys are all over the place. How do you contend with them?
- 3:10Well, they spread the field like they You're going to see splits that
- 3:14are almost to the boundary, and they make you defend the width of the
- 3:17field as well as in the length. You don't condense the field for you
- 3:21at all. It's about, you know, stand tight on your man,
- 3:23making sure you keep the ball in front of you. You have to be
- 3:27able to make tackles in the open field. You have to contest throws and
- 3:30be able to you know, win some of the fifty to fifty balls.
- 3:32So we really have to be on point. We have to do a great
- 3:36job of communicating because you know, they're the third fastest team in college football
- 3:40in terms of getting a snap off, so you know, they put a
- 3:43lot of pressure on you that way to get lined up, get your calls
- 3:46made and execute. And we've had some work at that, you know,
- 3:50playing teams that have gone fast, but they put a lot of pressure on
- 3:53you that way. So it's going to be a great challenge for us,
- 3:57and I think our guys will go out and they'll play hard, they'll play
- 4:00well. Right We're hoping for another victory. Yukon trying to string a couple
- 4:02together start the second half of the season. As always pleasure coach Jim Moore
