- 1:25Yours Truly Johnny Dollar, and then afterwards Doctor Tim returns. But here now
- 1:30is the Laird Douglas. Douglas of Heatherscope Matter Part five from Hollywood. It's
- 1:38time now for Johnny Dollar, Ronald Kenworthy, mister good I want to talk
- 1:45to you. Are you at your home? I am okay? Then stay
- 1:49right there and I'll be able to see you. Why don't you send the
- 1:51police instead? What's that supposed to mean? A few minutes ago, in
- 1:55missus Van Playton's library, before you kicked me out, you practically accused me
- 1:57of the murder of her nephew. I well didn't, didn't, All right,
- 2:01Ronnie? Just calm down and stay put until I can get over there.
- 2:05You mean you want afraid I might try to take a powder, as
- 2:07you high handed detectives like to put it. You mean you want worried about
- 2:17tonight and every weekday night. Bob Bailey in the Transcribed Adventures of the Man
- 2:22with the Action Packed Expense Account, America's fabulous freelance insurance investigator, Yours truly,
- 2:28Johnny Dollar expense account submitted by a special investigator, Johnny Dollar to the
- 2:45Philadelphia Mutual Liability and Casualty Company. Following is the final report in my investigation
- 2:50of the Laird Douglas. Douglas of Heather's Scode matter. The whole case started
- 2:55out almost as a lark when I discovered that I'd come to Philadelphia to act
- 2:59a bodyguard. De laired Douglas Douglas and for a fat fee and virtually unlimited
- 3:04expense accounts me bodyguard to a dog. But it ceased to be funny when
- 3:09I learned that the dog's two previous caretakers had been murdered, and when only
- 3:14a few hours ago an attempt was made on my life that ended with the
- 3:16death of young Warren Staley. Yes, mister Dollar, I see, I
- 3:22guess I was so upset by the death of my nephew that I didn't realize
- 3:25the attempt was really made on your life. The second attempt, missus van
- 3:29Piden. What shortly after I arrived in Philadelphia, somebody planted a booby trap
- 3:34in my suitcase in my hotel room. Good heavens no. And you think
- 3:38that Ronald Kenworthy did that too? Well what do you think? Oh?
- 3:44Yes, Now that poor dear Warren is gone, there's nothing to prevent the
- 3:49Kenworthy estate from achieving control of the than Python holdings. That is, if
- 3:53I were to die go on upon the death of Harrison Kenworthy, the whole
- 3:59financial empire would be inherited by his son Ronald. So I understand Ronald,
- 4:04and he would be the wealthiest, the most powerful man financially in the United
- 4:09States. Ronald who pretended to be Warren's best friend, who pretended to love
- 4:15me. It's a terrible thought, isn't It Apparently ends up though, doesn't
- 4:19it? There is no question of it. But what evidence have you none
- 4:26yet? Well, then I'll help you get it, and I can do
- 4:30it, mister Doller. I may appear to be only a wealthy, foolish
- 4:33old woman who doats on her pet Leir Douglas, but I'm not. I
- 4:39astute, shrewd and clever. Since Peter, my husband, died, I
- 4:44alone have managed this estate, this financial empire. I use the word again,
- 4:48with my money, with my Oh yes, I can do it,
- 4:53mister Doller, and Ronald will be made to pay for these terrible things that
- 4:57he has done. I uh, I admire You're comfort nothing. No one
- 5:01can stand in my way. You see, I'm only sorry that a few
- 5:06minutes ago you didn't keep him here and make him face it. I'm going
- 5:10to see him now, Oh where at his home? I understand the estate
- 5:14that joins this one, Yes, but please look out for him. Shoot
- 5:18first, mister Dollar, what because now he may act like the cornered rat
- 5:26that he is. I decided to walk across to the Kenworthy estate and the
- 5:32wholt of fresh air would help clear my thoughts. Logical as it all seemed,
- 5:36I didn't like what I just heard. Then luck pure unadeliorated luck.
- 5:43As I walked across the broad lawn between the main house and the gatehouse,
- 5:46I passed the garage building where it's Rolls Royce, two Cadillacs in the station
- 5:49wagon, and then I saw him, Andy Laford alias Andrey Fortune alias Andrew
- 5:55Ford, one of the cleverest second story men in the country, with a
- 5:57record on the West Coast as long as your arm, A man who would
- 6:00do anything for money. He was hardly going through the motion of dusting off
- 6:03a car. I walked past quickly, not sure whether he'd notice me or
- 6:08not. I hope not, for it was one of his ilk food had
- 6:11to plant the booby trap in my hotel room. Who could have slipped the
- 6:14poison into the liquor that killed Warren Stately I turned in at the gatekeeper's house,
- 6:18Eh Dollar, I saw you at the question. I want a telephone
- 6:23quick right here, sir, it's something nice operator goat me Central Police Emergency.
- 6:33The man there in the garage polishing cars? And how long has he
- 6:36been here? Oooh more? Ever since the door ste would belly kill?
- 6:42What does he do? Oh? The driving for missus Van Payton. But
- 6:46there's something going Hell, give me Lieutenant Howard homicide after wanting the old gatekeeper
- 6:55and I'd have his head if he said anything to any want about my phone
- 6:58call. I left by the back door. I went over to the Kenworthy
- 7:00mansion, where young Roma was waiting for me. I must say before we
- 7:03go any further that I resent the way you ordered me out of the Van
- 7:05Piiton house a few minutes ago. Yeah, well, I'm sorry. Whether
- 7:09you suspect me or expect me to help you in this case. It was
- 7:11funny. You knew Warren Staley very well. We were the closest of friends.
- 7:15Confidence all right? Just how much did he really care about the Van
- 7:19Pyton estate fortune whatever you want to call it? To put it bluntly,
- 7:23he wanted none of it, and I'm afraid his aunt rather resented it.
- 7:27Well, why do you say that? Because her whole life she's been obsessed
- 7:29by an almost overwhelming lust for power. When Warren finally rebelled against this,
- 7:33she tried not to show it, but she hated him for it, unlike
- 7:35my father. Oh, I feel as Warren felt, and my father and
- 7:40I together have been laying the groundwork for dissipating the Kenworthy estate into corporate setups
- 7:44that will benefit many instead of just us. Does that sound strange to you?
- 7:48That sounds like true philanthropy. If you mean it, you must believe
- 7:51me it is, and I do mean it. Oh. I won't suffer,
- 7:55of course, I'll still retain some control here and there, but I'll
- 7:58have to work at it instead of just carrying on the tradition of the idol
- 8:01rich. I'll be a man. I hope you're telling me the truth,
- 8:05Ronnie. I believe you are, and I'd like to meet your father.
- 8:09You will, needless to say. It was much harder for him to break
- 8:11from this tradition of financial power than for me. So perhaps you can see
- 8:16why I admire him above all other men. Anything else. I'll see you
- 8:22in him. I was worried about your mister Dolla going over there to see
- 8:28Ronald Kenworthy alone after all that has happened. Yes, you should have been
- 8:33Missus van Piten, especially if you notice that I passed by the garage in
- 8:37the way. What I happen to notice someone there? And I think it
- 8:41answered a lot of questions for me. It was Andy la Fort Andrew,
- 8:46my private chauffeur. Is that all he is? Do you know him?
- 8:50Mister Dollar? Look, I took on this case, Missus van Piden,
- 8:54because you offered me a fee too good to be turned down and an almost
- 8:56unlimited expense account. You haven't answered me. I should have got wise then
- 9:01and there, but I thought your great passion for your dog was just an
- 9:03amusing foible of an immensely wealthy kind of foolish old lady. Oh, Laird
- 9:07Douglas is a dear one, isn't it? Why, mister Dollar, let
- 9:11me add things up. A few minutes ago you told me that, thanks
- 9:16to your wealth, in a very sharp, clever mind, you'd let nothing
- 9:18stand in the way of anything you chose to do. Please, mister Dollar,
- 9:22I don't think I understand all right. You made a contract with Harrison
- 9:26Kenworthy that you'd marry him when and if Laird Douglas beat that puff of his
- 9:28at the dog show, and apparently silly sort of thing. Yet everybody believed
- 9:33it. But the real reason for marriage to him was solely to acquire control
- 9:37of his holdings, increase this financial empire of yours, very subtle kept you
- 9:41looking like a cute, whimsical old lady. Why this is the most absurd
- 9:45thing I ever heard, so I thought at first. But let me go
- 9:48on, Oh please do when you realize that Laird Douglas wasn't ready to beat
- 9:52that dog of his, rather than admit defeat, rather than lose the chance
- 9:56to make this marriage, you ordered the murder of the dog's handlers. Then
- 9:58the contract was still just delayed. I won't listen to such terrible things.
- 10:03You'll listen whether you like it or not. You learned that Kenworthy and his
- 10:05son were planning to dissipate their fortune and thereby put it beyond your reach.
- 10:09Mister. On top of this, your own nephew, Warren wanted to do
- 10:11the same with your estate. This was too much. What you have said
- 10:15is too much. Then by the time I arrived, you learned from an
- 10:16expert, ray Roland, that your dog would never stand a chance against Kenworthy's,
- 10:20so you wouldn't dare let him compete At least until you'd hooked Kenworthy some
- 10:24other way, and part of your whole scheme was to build up evidence of
- 10:28attempts against you through the dog. Of course, though I'll bet you actually
- 10:31hate the munt. No, that's not true anyhow, From the moment I
- 10:33talked to Ray Roland, I was only in the way, so you tried
- 10:35to get rid of me. Had somebody booby trapped my luggy? You have
- 10:39no proof, Andy Lafort, this so called chauffeur of yours, would do
- 10:43anything for money, and I fully intend to break him down and make him
- 10:46admit you hired him as a killer. Listen, listen to me. On
- 10:50the second try the poisoned liquor, your nephew Warren got it instead of me.
- 10:54Fine, Fine, another obstacle out of your way. After all,
- 10:56he had opposed you, mister Dollar, how much do you want? I
- 11:01can make you financially independent? And you set your sights on Ronald Kenworthy,
- 11:07who was trying to break up the other empire you wanted to get your hands
- 11:09on. You even hope that somehow I might help you shoot first your cent.
- 11:13You don't understand. I was just what plans you had for his old
- 11:16man on that warp twisted brain of yours. I don't know, but I'm
- 11:20sure you had plans. Well, lady, now it's too late, No,
- 11:24mister dollar, No, it isn't too late. Stay with that drawer.
- 11:31You'd even shoot somebody down with your own hand if you thought it necessary,
- 11:33wouldn't you? But it isn't necessary, mister dollar. Are you sure
- 11:37it wouldn't be easier if I were just to give you, say, a
- 11:41hundred thousand dollars and two hundred thousand All right, Andrew? Right here,
- 11:52missus lampikee, Wow, wow, Hello, Andy, got a license for
- 11:56that thing? Want me to do it now? Missus van? Yes,
- 12:01Andrew? What if the servants hit a shot hold of Donna? Don't worry,
- 12:07Andrew. I'll take care of things, haven't I always for you?
- 12:11Yeah? Yeah, sure, sure, she'll take care of things. While
- 12:15you're pulling that trigger, she'll blast you down so fast you won't know what
- 12:18hits you, like it looked like we killed each other and leave her in
- 12:20the clear. She's got a gun in that drawbyside her, and showed you
- 12:22is that if you hear me out, I say, quiet. What you
- 12:26don't know is that she can't do without me, but we can do without
- 12:31you. All right, Andy, wait, now listen with you now,
- 12:35missus van all right, Andrew, now, thanks lieutenant. Oh lieutenant,
- 12:48then you saw he was going to shoot down mister Dollar. Yes, I
- 12:52heard too, missus Varan Phyton play. Oh no, you don't understand.
- 12:56Mister Dollar had come up here to talk to me. I wanted to offer
- 12:58him a deal more money for his work for me. I guess it almost
- 13:01didn't make it. Lead you keep tugging to him so long, got a
- 13:05cough dropping? Is this, buddy, the air bit of fortune? Oh?
- 13:07Shut up? What was that? You heard him? I beg your
- 13:13pardon, clever shrewd astute, you're just off your rocker. You'd have to
- 13:20be, I guess to start a thing like this in the first place.
- 13:26Well, I guess by the time the estate and inheritance laws get properly applied,
- 13:31the Van Piton Empire will be spread around the way Warren wanted it.
- 13:35Expense Account Item ten twenty eight ninety fair and incidentals back to Hartford, total

- 14:43Roy Rowan speaking where Where Welcome back Well. I told him that the scripts
- 16:11were getting better, and I think this was definitely a better episode than the
- 16:17last couple of Johnstone stories we've heard. This was not the expected result,
- 16:26although he did kind of tip his hand a little bit towards the end,
- 16:33with hers basically suggesting that they would support shooting down the guy who was the
- 16:44son of the other family. But other than that, I thought this was
- 16:48an interesting episode, even though it had that really kind of bizarre tone issue
- 16:56where Sirius the first two the last three episodes after being really a comic episode
- 17:02the first two. But at anyway, let's go ahead and take a listen
- 17:07now to doctor Tim Detective and today's story is the case of the dog who
- 17:15did and didn't to Tim Detective to bring you by friendscription the mystery of the
- 17:22dog that did and didn't. It had been a tiring week, and as
- 17:34I washed up after some experiments I've been making to determine whether a certain murder
- 17:38case that involve the use of poison, I thought what a swell day would
- 17:41be for a picnic in the mountains. It is early in November, and
- 17:45from my laboratory window, the mountains looked as if they'd been sprinkled with pottered
- 17:48sugar. I'll get Sandy and Jail, I told myself, and we'll make
- 17:52this a Saturday to remember. You see. Jill's my landlady's daughter, and
- 17:56Sandy lives up the street aways. They were both mighty useful time to time,
- 18:00and helping me to solve the mystery. I turned off the water,
- 18:03dried my hands, and started to go out into the hall of calls.
- 18:06Jill and Sandy hung the phone, rang him, Jim, Yeah, Jarvis,
- 18:15I've got a case that looks right up your alley. I sided there,
- 18:18I thought, goes my holiday in the mountains, because whatever my hols.
- 18:22The doctor Jarvis called it sure to be a case of more than ordinary
- 18:26interest. Jarvis works for the health Department, and I've been consulted by him
- 18:30on problems before. He continued, Yes, it's right in your neighborhood,
- 18:33Tombs. If just taken a woman to the hospital, and there's no doubt
- 18:37about it. She has Rocky Mountains spotted fever. What in November interested out?
- 18:42But that takes season has been over since well in the middle of the
- 18:45summer. Well, you can examine the woman yourself if you want to.
- 18:48But three doctors, including myself, has made the diagnosis and it can't be
- 18:52wrong. Severe chiln's followed by a fever of one hundred and four or five.
- 18:56Pain and the muscles and joints, and get this spotting of the skin
- 19:00has already started this morning. But where do I come in. Well,
- 19:04you and I know there's one cause and one cause only for a spotting fever
- 19:08ticks. She's been hidden by an infected chicken recently. What did you say
- 19:14that tick season has been over for several months now. Why don't you go
- 19:17over to the house. Oh, look, Javis, that makes you think
- 19:19I am the one. Well, you're supposed to be good at that sort
- 19:22of thing, Okay, but don't expect any results spotted fever in the winter.
- 19:29This plan doesn't make sense, that's all. Oh, give me that
- 19:32name and address. Slipping on my top coat, I tried to make sense
- 19:45of the puzzle. The address was that of mister Herman May, just around
- 19:48the corner from me. I recognized the name. I was a Willie May,
- 19:52a few years older than Jill and Sandy who played with him sometimes.
- 19:56And speaking of Sandy and Jill, it was curious eyes thought that I hadn't
- 20:00seen anything of them this morning. Usually on Saturdays they'd be clamoring at my
- 20:04dog here. Well, I needn't wonder any longer. I called, come
- 20:11in like a streak, A yapping hike dog ran between my legs, jump
- 20:15up and down and greeting, and then dash around and around my laboratory,
- 20:18barking and sniffing in great excitement. Sandy and Jill followed the dog into the
- 20:22room, more slowly, but obviously bursting with excitement. Sorry, sorry,
- 20:26come back to the systance. Oh hey, I'm scry. Got to stay
- 20:30caring. When he got away, a little ball of fur silent now came
- 20:33dancing into the laboratory from my adjoining bedroom. I blushed to admit that my
- 20:38ambassador house keeping his knowledge should be. The dog proved that for two days
- 20:42I've been looking for that particular sock the dog carried in his mouth. It
- 20:47must have been under the bed. Put it down stairs, put it down
- 20:49at one The dog off the sock and wagged his tail nearly off. Honeys,
- 20:53I'm awful, Sorry dat you, camp City. I'm really name.
- 20:56He's mad as you has to do. I mean the dog mother phebe Dick,
- 21:00I mean Reilly's man, and he has something awful. I could get
- 21:03what it's called him. It's called Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and it's caused
- 21:07by the bite of a tick. Despite its name, the disease is found
- 21:10in almost every state of the Union. The only funny thing is they aren't
- 21:14supposed to be any ticks around during the cold season. Good gosh, how
- 21:18did you find out not? Miss man detectives know everything? Sandy O have
- 21:25that ice tournament? Jackie Keating got him in a case already, but he
- 21:29can't keep us out of it because Willy na assus to take care of this
- 21:32jog's baying how he's doing already? There did miss a nice working and can't
- 21:34get off? And left the key with us to the doctors, is going
- 21:37to investigate? Can get in? And all the time it was you docty
- 21:38camp and then what are we waiting for? Let's get going. A few
- 21:53moments later we unlocked the door to the may house and went in silence and
- 21:57pondering. All equip men consisted of flashlights for peering in the dark corners in
- 22:02our search for the presence of another tick or two which might have been countered
- 22:06to the illness of Missus Maine. Each of us had an envelope, but
- 22:08a pair of tweezers, so as not to run the risk of crushing an
- 22:11infected tick and getting some of the deadly microbes upon ourselves. After a few
- 22:15joyful home coming yelps, Heiney disappeared to some secret place of his own.
- 22:19We began the search in earnest. We divided the front room and the adjoining
- 22:25dining room in the areas, calling across to each other as we searched for
- 22:27a chance tick that might be hiding. Yeah, I don't think I've ever
- 22:30even seen touched out as him. Well, you can't miss one if you
- 22:34find it. They're grayish brown little bugs oh less than half the size of
- 22:40your little fingernail, which makes them pretty hard to see when they're in their
- 22:42natural setting. Yeah, I know, I found them in riding laws in
- 22:45the woods. The bite is the bite of the stick if you've bought at
- 22:48season. The bite of most ticks won't. But there's one particular kind of
- 22:52tick. We doctors call it Derman Center and her SONA, which can pass
- 22:56on the disease to human beings. Gee, what ant He's just the season
- 23:00and they don't, Jill, They only carry the organism that causes it.
- 23:03I wish you'd quit you in Norse words, what the Heck's in an organism?
- 23:07It's an agent which carries a disease, but it's so small that it
- 23:11can't be seen except through a microscope. Yeah, but I'm still want Well,
- 23:15these ticks bite sheep or squirrels or parry dogs or kyotes that have a
- 23:18disease, and then they bite people and pass it on to them. And
- 23:22what we call carriers. They can pass spotted fever on but don't have it
- 23:26themselves. You think, just like the mosquitos did cause malaria exactly. Oh,
- 23:30I like tuh flaid Mary. They ain't about her in school. He
- 23:33goes hundreds of people's high floid after she covered some of his suff You didn't
- 23:37even know she was carrying the disease around. Hey, if bot some don't
- 23:40touch it, let me see it. I thought it was a kick.
- 23:42It's only an old piece of rubber band. Well, kids, we've covered
- 23:47these two rooms thoroughly. We can give them a clean bell of health.
- 23:51Let's move on towards the bat. By the time we'd covered the downstairs thoroughly,
- 24:08Sandy and Jill had received an elementary course in Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
- 24:14They learned that it's mostly in April, May and June the ticks are active.
- 24:17They were made to realize the necessity for protecting one's self with heavy boots
- 24:21stockings, gloves, and tightly buttoned shirts before going into areas in the mountains
- 24:25which are known to be full of ticks. They learned that the only way
- 24:27to make sure even then is to have one's body thoroughly inspected each evening before
- 24:32going to bed. Thank explain how to remove all ticks gently from the skin,
- 24:36and removed them without crushing. They learned that the clothing must be inspected
- 24:40as well, and all danger of ticks hiding there eliminated. It was a
- 24:44good lesson, but we weren't any further along in our mystery. Just as
- 24:48we'd finished looking over the downstairs part of the house and the basement, the
- 24:52door opened and mister May came in. We introduced ourselves and soon were deep
- 24:56in comfort. Well, yes, doctor fire in the old hunting clothes and
- 25:00sheepskin jackets that they might it taken into tick country. I don't die.
- 25:04I haven't been outside my car in the woods and the metels for several years.
- 25:07Well, what about the dog, Brass he had a tine, has
- 25:11never been on a trip during the year we've had him. Finey hearing his
- 25:15name came rudily backing in bears a trophy exactly one half of what looked to
- 25:19be a bedroom slipper proudly he later performed. Mister May, we all quickly
- 25:23agreed that such a short haired dog couldn't very well carry ticks without their being
- 25:27easily found. Besides, he'd had no chance to pick them up. There
- 25:32was nothing to do but continue our search. Slowly we moved upstairs, mister
- 25:37May leading the way, or rather Hine leading, with all of us following
- 25:41behind. It was in the closet of missus May's room that our first break
- 25:57came. In the case, Stanley, he a shout, look a tit
- 26:02right here on this master colt. Quickly we gathered around. I took the
- 26:04coat, laid it on the bed, and then one by one hauled the
- 26:07clothes out of the closet. By the time we were finished, the count
- 26:11was five ticks under my magnifying glass, all of them we easily identified as
- 26:17the carrier of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, the wood tick Derma Center ANDERSONI in
- 26:22the clothes closet of a house in town, months after the ticks season was
- 26:27over, here was a mystery. Indeed, in fact, in the excitement
- 26:33of our discovery, I overlooked what turned out to be one of the most
- 26:36important clues in the whole case. Honey, the dog came bounding into the
- 26:40room with a small box in his mouth. He shook his head back and
- 26:42forth as if he were worring a bone. Suddenly the lid of the box
- 26:45drew off, and some of the coppets threw out a messus butterflies the food
- 26:49of some collector's search of the previous summer. So man, come on,
- 26:53he rockets them out, pick them, and with a farewell to mister May
- 26:57and the promise to resume our detective work later, I took the kids out
- 27:00to eat. It was an hour later we sat over dessert in a downtown
- 27:19left had with both kids feeding their week's allowings into a jukebox while we discussed
- 27:25the progress of the case. Well, I got a theory anyway. I
- 27:29think it was murder. No one's dead in the first place. Now could
- 27:33it even be attempted murdering that one person in a million would think of scattering
- 27:37woodticks around a room. And I hope that the right victim would get spot
- 27:41at the beaver. I don't know, you know how that's complete? Widow
- 27:45picks that have detten him or young willing for me. Hey, that reminds
- 27:49me. We looked all over that dog gone hot, but we didn't remember
- 27:53the secret room in the basement. They said room. What gives this a
- 27:57Middle Ages thriller? Oh, it isn't really excent room. It's really sorry,
- 28:02drap as may killum to keep the collect phone too, keep hanging teleb
- 28:07on. Sure you go to kind of a whining passage, all painted black
- 28:10lighte ones spoil the pictures? Will he developed? Let me stop and think
- 28:14a moment. What sort of collections the master will he make? Oh?
- 28:18Butterflies, buzz and stuff for pretty apisots. Got that that's the first one.
- 28:22Now hold on a second. You mean the dog can go in and
- 28:23out of that room as he pleases? Drake? Can do you like as
- 28:27you can't like to connection? I'm not sure, but I think I know
- 28:33how missus May got footed fever. You kids dropping the car offside. And
- 28:37I'll make two phone calls and maybe I'll come up with the answer. And
- 28:55I did the first call of the young Willy May at his ants house.
- 29:00I asked one question. Willie said, yes, he did collect a lot
- 29:03of miscellaneous insects the summer before, some of them were ticks. The second
- 29:07call was to a specialist friend of mine who is an authority on the habits
- 29:11of insects. He assured me that certain insects that would tick among them can
- 29:17live in hibernation for months and still have enough life to attach themselves to a
- 29:21human being and cause the disease. It was obvious that Willie's tick collections,
- 29:25scattered around the bedroom by the dog, just as he'd scattered the butterflies,
- 29:30was the solution to the mystery, and it turned out later it was.
- 29:34Sandy and Jill were full of questions, but only one or two were to
- 29:37the point, Well what about moss mose d he get, Well, yeah,
- 29:41she has an excellent chance, Jill. Spotted fever is often fatal,
- 29:45but one of the new wonder working drugs is being used in a lot of
- 29:48cases these days. They're using it on her. Gosh, isn't there some
- 29:52kind of stuff like vaccination for spotted fever? There is that There isn't much
- 29:56reason for anyone to have those inoculations unless he plans to go into places where
- 30:00ticks might reasonably be found. It's not a sure method of preventing spotted fever.
- 30:07Even if used, the injections must be taken six weeks before exposure.
- 30:11Being careful is the only answer. Wow, this is here wanking where a
- 30:15dog was the carrier of the disease? He Jetty whyn't Yeah, No,
- 30:18you're your way now, the mystery of the dog that did. I puzzled
- 30:23over that one and finally came to a compromise. It's the mystery of the
- 30:29dog that did and didn't. This is doctor Tim detective saying, so long
- 30:37until next week. At the same time when Sandy, Jill and I will
- 30:40bring you by transcription the Mystery of the Girl from Singapore. Welcome back,
- 30:59good educational program. And at the very least, Cindy shows a very active
- 31:07imagination with his suggestion of murder. Doctor TAM's almost practically saying what type of
- 31:15show do you think this is? And that actually, Rocky Mountain spotted fever
- 31:22does continue to remain one of the most lethal illnesses in the United States,
- 31:30so it's definitely messing. I thought it was pretty clever solution here. Obviously
- 31:37no criminal to track down, but they definitely do what they do pretty well
- 31:41in terms of making these medical science stuff interesting. Well, speaking of that,
- 31:48we have a listener comment from Clarissa, who says, Hi, Adam
- 31:52love your podcast. I've been enjoying the new Johnny Dollar serials but missing Sherlock
- 31:56Holmes. I've also liked a few episodes of Doctor Tim, not particularly from
- 32:00a mystery standpoint, but because I think the medical knowledge from the nineteen forties
- 32:05is really interesting. I was wondering if do you know if the young girl
- 32:12from Doctor Tim is played by Sandra Gould, possibly best known as the second
- 32:15Glightest Kravitz from Bewitched. It sounds like her to me. Thanks for all
- 32:20the great mysteries. Well, Clarissa, thanks for the question. I delayed
- 32:25answering on the show just because we didn't have any Doctor Tam episode last week.
- 32:31But my answer is not in lightning though. I just we don't know.
- 32:37Doctor Tim is one of those shows we have very little information on as
- 32:40to who the players were or where it was even produced. It may sound
- 32:47like the character, but yeah, there's just no information really available on the
- 32:52series other than the name of the company that produced it, Monarch or Syndicated
- 33:00Monarch Program Library Syndication. Other than that, we have no information on it
- 33:07at all, and that it was released in nineteen forty eight. So,
- 33:14and what we can say about Gould's career is that she did do some radio,
- 33:19but when you get to nineteen forty eight, she was making appearances on
- 33:24programs like My Friend Irma, The Adventures of Sam Spade, and Feb McGee
- 33:30and Molly, which doesn't totally exclude the possibility of her doing an obscure kids
- 33:37show, but I think the career probably wasn't at that point. Personally,
- 33:45I lean towards this series. My best guess is that it didn't even come
- 33:49from Hollywood and was made somewhere else as an educational effort. I could be
- 33:55wrong, but that's just my best guess. All right. Well, and
- 34:00if there's anyone out there who has some more information on Doctor Timdetective, I'd
- 34:06love to hear it. But that'll do it for today. Join us back
- 34:08here tomorrow for the lineup. We kick off a new Johnny Dollar story on
- 34:15Monday, and Doctor Tim will be back next Friday. Send your comments to
