- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode thirty-two! Can you believe it? Lucas: I know. You've learned so much already. Greetings, days of the week, colors, numbers... Luna: Even months! That was a lot. Lucas: Yeah, and today we're learning something you can see in any room. Luna: Ooh, furniture? Like tables and chairs? Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with a simple one. La mesa. Luna: La mesa. That sounds like 'table'. Lucas: Right. La mesa. Say it with me. Luna: La mesa. Lucas: Good. Now, the word for chair is la silla. Luna: La silla. Silla. That's nice. Lucas: Yep. So now you know two common pieces of furniture. Luna: Let me practice. La mesa... la silla. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's use them in a sentence. Hay una mesa. Luna: Hay una mesa. That means 'there is a table'? Lucas: Exactly. Hay means 'there is' or 'there are'. So Hay una mesa. Luna: Hay una mesa. Okay. And 'there is a chair' would be Hay una silla. Lucas: Yes! Good job. Hay una silla. Luna: Hay una silla. I love it. Lucas: Now imagine you're in a kitchen. There's a table and a chair. How would you say that? Luna: Um... Hay una mesa y una silla? Lucas: Yes! Hay una mesa y una silla. Perfect. Luna: Hay una mesa y una silla. I can describe my dining room now. Lucas: Let's do a little back-and-forth. I'll say a sentence, you repeat. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Hay una mesa. Luna: Hay una mesa. Lucas: Hay una silla. Luna: Hay una silla. Lucas: Hay una mesa y una silla. Luna: Hay una mesa y una silla. That was fun. Lucas: Now let's say the table is red. La mesa es roja. Luna: La mesa es roja. Because mesa is feminine, right? Lucas: Exactly. So roja with an 'a'. And for chair, la silla es...? Luna: La silla es... also roja if it's red? Lucas: Right again. La silla es roja. Luna: La silla es roja. Or if it's blue, la silla es azul. Lucas: Yes! You're mixing old vocab with new. That's great. Luna: So I could say 'La mesa es roja y la silla es azul.' Lucas: Beautiful sentence. La mesa es roja y la silla es azul. Luna: La mesa es roja y la silla es azul. I love that. Lucas: Now, let's talk about where things are. You can say 'La mesa está aquí.' Luna: Está, that's 'is' for location, right? Lucas: Yes. So 'La mesa está aquí' means 'the table is here.' Luna: La mesa está aquí. And 'the chair is there'? Lucas: La silla está allí. Luna: La silla está allí. Lucas: Great. So we have two verbs: ser for description, estar for location. Luna: Right. La mesa es roja, but la mesa está aquí. Lucas: Exactly. Let's wrap up with a mini review. Luna: Sounds good. Lucas: What's table in Spanish? Luna: La mesa. Lucas: Chair? Luna: La silla. Lucas: How do you say 'there is a table'? Luna: Hay una mesa. Lucas: There is a chair? Luna: Hay una silla. Lucas: And 'the table is here, the chair is there'? Luna: La mesa está aquí, la silla está allí. Lucas: Perfect. You're ready to describe any room. Luna: I can finally talk about my furniture in Spanish! Lucas: Keep practicing with what's around you. Look at a table and say 'Hay una mesa.' Luna: That's a great tip. Thanks Lucas. Lucas: Thanks for joining us on Learn Spanish with Fexingo. We'll be back with more. Luna: See you next time! Practice your mesa and silla! Lucas: Adiós.
