a majority of your tasks involved making calls, taking messages,
• 1:43
communicating back and forth with mister Epstein, scheduling appointments. Is
• 1:47
that all of fairer characterization? Answer yes. Question. I would
• 1:53
now like to introduce what will be marked as majority
• 1:55
Exhibit ten. This is FBI note from the Sworren statement
• 1:58
that you gave to the FBI on September twenty fourth,
• 2:01
twenty twenty one. It's batesmart EFTA zero one two four
• 2:06
six two one six. She's going to get that passed
• 2:09
out and we'll give you some time to review. In
• 2:12
the meantime, I'm just gonna ask you some general questions
• 2:15
about the interview, if that's okay. Answer sure. Question, So
• 2:19

• 2:54
not sworn Backner. Yeah, it's just not sworn, miss Tolan. Okay,
• 2:59
thank you. Question and then we'll give you a second
• 3:02
to review. Answer. Okay, you want me to read the
• 3:04
whole entire thing. Question You don't have to read it,
• 3:07
if you remember, I have some specific questions that I
• 3:10
can point you to answer, questions that you can guide me.
• 3:15
Question Yeah, if you would like me to begin answer
• 3:18
uh huh. Question. So on page two, you state that
• 3:22
mister Epstein would give you a call list of who
• 3:24
you were supposed to or of who he wanted to
• 3:27
see and have appointments with. I think we've already discussed
• 3:32
that in length. But you would receive that daily. Is
• 3:35
that correct? And then make appointments accordingly. Answer yes. Question.
• 3:39
On page two, you mentioned that you were responsible for
• 3:41
making all phone calls, including calling the chef and the driver.
• 3:45
Is that accurate? Answer yes, question What would you coordinate
• 3:50
with each of them about? Answer the driver for when
• 3:53
mister Epstein wanted to be picked up and where he
• 3:55
was supposed to be picked up. Give the driver an
• 3:57
address for when he wanted to leave the house and
• 4:00
be sure to be outside and ready to go that
• 4:02
type of thing. The chef would be if he wanted
• 4:05
his chef to bring lunch over to the office, or
• 4:08
it could be that he, you know, whatever he wanted
• 4:10
for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and just coordinate that with
• 4:13
the chef to make sure that he's ready at the
• 4:14
right time with whatever it is mister Epstein wanted to eat.
• 4:19
Question and were those conversations happening daily? Answer? Oh, yes question.
• 4:24
And on page three you mentioned that you would coordinate
• 4:27
with the pilots of mister Epstein's plane. Is that correct?
• 4:30
Answer yes, question. What would you coordinate with the pilots about?
• 4:34
Answer the time that he wanted to leave, the day
• 4:38
you wanted to leave. Usually that would be that would
• 4:40
be it. Question would you inform the pilots about guess
• 4:43
mister Epstein was bringing on his plane? Answer yes, that
• 4:47
could be possible to about who was going to be
• 4:49
traveling on the flight? Question and were those frequent communications
• 4:53
as well with the pilots answer, I mean yes, it
• 4:57
would be whenever he was going to be traveling. Question
• 5:00
and then on page three you also mentioned you'd coordinate
• 5:04
or you would schedule business meetings architects and designers. Is
• 5:07
that also correct? Answer? Yes? Question what would you coordinate
• 5:12
with each of them? About? Answer? Well, to business meetings,
• 5:16
it was just all his associates that I would coordinate
• 5:18
meetings with, be at his office or at his home.
• 5:21
Architects are recall buying tickets for them to fly in.
• 5:24
They would provide architectural plans. Mister Epstein never seemed to
• 5:28
be satisfied with any of the architects and the designers.
• 5:31
They would come and visit them. I would make appointments
• 5:34
with them, possibly buy the marror travel as well, and
• 5:37
just coordinate phone calls with all these people as well.
• 5:40
Question and just again, so the record's clear, we've talked
• 5:44
about your role in scheduling business meetings a lot of
• 5:48
different times today, is your testimony that you did not
• 5:51
have any knowledge about the purpose of what went on
• 5:53
in each of those meetings? Answer that is correct. Question
• 5:57
you just scheduled. Answer merely skeed world correct Brignac. In
• 6:02
your opening statement, I believe you said something to the
• 6:05
effect of you were thrust into the lives of the
• 6:07
rich and famous. But your testimony is sounded like you
• 6:11
were kept at an arm's length and that this was
• 6:13
very humdrum work, not as exciting as you said it was.
• 6:17
Can you help clarify my confusion, Miss Groff. Sure, it
• 6:21
was exciting just to know that you're talking to these
• 6:23
people's offices. I was not friends, but it's more exciting
• 6:28
than just speaking to, you know, the neighbor or the
• 6:30
regular businessmen. They were all very important people, you know.
• 6:33
It was exciting. Even though I had no real relationship
• 6:36
with these people, it was still it was better than
• 6:38
just working at your average accounting office and speaking to,
• 6:41
you know, a bunch of accountants. Nothing wrong with accountants.
• 6:44
I just mean these were movie producers, you know, record producers, businessmen,
• 6:49
Wall Street businessmen, government people. You know. It was not
• 6:52
normal Poland question and you mentioned on page eight that
• 6:56
mister Epstein would tell you to find a trader on
• 6:58
a few occasions. Is that correct answer? I'm sorry? Page
• 7:02
a answer? Yeah, question or answer? Okay, where are you? Question?
• 7:07
It should be near the top of the page. You
• 7:09
mentioned Epstein asking you to find a trader. Answer, Oh,
• 7:13
I think this is about a certain incident. Just bear
• 7:15
with me one second. Yeah, I recall one time mister
• 7:18
Epstein wanted to make a trade and it was something
• 7:21
if you know about trading things, stocks move and every
• 7:24
second matters, and I believe that I recall him calling
• 7:28
and telling me to get this person on the phone.
• 7:30
In my head, I was like, why is he not
• 7:33
just calling the person if it's so important that it
• 7:35
gets done. You know, right away the stock's going to move,
• 7:38
and I felt I remember I had to find the
• 7:40
phone number for the trader, and you know, that was it. It
• 7:44
was just one of those incidents. Yeah, that was nerve
• 7:46
wracking for me. Question just a one time occurrence. Answer.
• 7:50
I definitely remember that one occurrence. I'm not saying I
• 7:53
didn't connect them to a trader. Another time. Question and
• 7:57
then a few quick questions. You mentioned it briefly about
• 8:00
how exciting. The work was did you enjoy working as
• 8:03
an assistant or secretary apologies for mister Epstein. Answer? I
• 8:08
did at the time, Miss Brignat, Can you elaborate growth.
• 8:12
It was exciting, it was challenging, It was super super busy.
• 8:16
It was not like a regular a regular job as
• 8:18
an assistant. It was just haear on fire, lots of commotion.
• 8:22
People own islands and airplanes and homes and other parts
• 8:25
of the world. It was exciting, just not like a
• 8:28
regular job. Question and how did mister Epstein treat you
• 8:32
or how did he treat you as a boss? Answer?
• 8:35
As my boss, he was professional. He did not get
• 8:37
close to me. If you asked him, I bet he
• 8:39
would say that he didn't even know my husband's name
• 8:42
or my son's name. It was not that kind of relationship.
• 8:45
He would demand no mistakes. But I liked the challenge.
• 8:49
I did get in trouble at times. But I also
• 8:51
felt like I was good at coordinating and managing his
• 8:53
phones and calling people and organizing his day, and I
• 8:57
felt value from that. But we were not friends. He
• 9:00
did not socialize. I did not see him outside of work,
• 9:03
and it was all on purpose. Question and you mentioned
• 9:06
it just then and in your opening statement as well,
• 9:09
an instance where a mistake was made and he put
• 9:11
you on probation. I believe you turned it. Can you
• 9:13
explain what that was? Answer? So, yeah, they had told
• 9:17
me that I should not socialize with anybody that he
• 9:19
spoke to. They're friends for not my friends. I didn't
• 9:22
get invited to a party and I went with my
• 9:25
husband and he found out the next day. And I
• 9:27
definitely was more than just a reprimand it was very scary.
• 9:30
He was very powerful. He had this aura around them.
• 9:34
You sat up straight whenever he would talk or walk
• 9:36
into the office. Miss Brignac, What did it mean if
• 9:40
you were put on probation? Growth on probation? I think
• 9:43
it was for a month, and you know, if I
• 9:45
made any other errors, I would get fired Toland. Question
• 9:49
were you not working for the month that you were
• 9:51
put on probation? Answer? No, I was there. I was working, yeah,
• 9:54
and being very careful. Question what did probation mean then? Answer?
• 9:58
I think he was just watching for if I made errors,
• 10:01
I would get fired. Question and during your time working
• 10:05
for mister Epstein, was Miss Maxwell? Was she ever in
• 10:08
a supervisory role to you? Did you ever work under her?
• 10:11
Answer I did not work under her. Question what did
• 10:15
you understand her role to be? Answer? I thought she
• 10:18
was the office manager. Question and how did she act
• 10:20
towards you and the other staff? Answer? She was cordial,
• 10:23
she was professional. We really didn't interract much. When she
• 10:26
would come into the office, she would sweep through, sit
• 10:29
at her desk. She had an assistant. I didn't report
• 10:32
to her, Miss Brignac. Question who answered to Miss Maxwell? Question? Oh,
• 10:37
who is miss Maxwell's assistant? Answer? Oh, sorry, it changed
• 10:40
over time. It was first redacted, and then it was
• 10:43
I'm sorry redacted. No was it redacted? I'm sorry, I'm
• 10:46
drawing a blank after redacted? Yes, redacted moved back to
• 10:50
be her assistant, and we hired a new receptionist. Question
• 10:54
how long did you work with redacted? Answer? She was
• 10:58
let go when he went to jail. So into the
• 10:59
thousand and nine question why answer, we had to downsize
• 11:03
the office. Others were also let go. Question who else?
• 11:08
Answer redacted? Who was the attorney's assistant at the time?
• 11:11
I believe it was redacted who was a receptionist? And
• 11:14
that might have been That might have been it. Question
• 11:18
did you hear why they were let gos specifically. Answer,
• 11:21
it was just that they were downsizing the office and
• 11:23
it wasn't going to be that busy. Question in your
• 11:26
role as secretary for mister Epstein, did you ever work
• 11:29
alongside Richard Kahn? Answer no. Question. Did you ever conduct
• 11:33
work or assist Richard Kahn with his accounting operations? Answer
• 11:37
no question. Did you ever work alongside Darren Endyke Answer
• 11:42
I did a short period of time when he was
• 11:44
in jail. Yes. Question What was your position working for him?
• 11:48
Answer assistant? Question and what were you helping him with? Answer?
• 11:52
Filing calls, making his calls, connecting him to people who
• 11:55
was not nearly as exciting. Question and what time period
• 11:59
was that? Answer that was about two thousand and nine.
• 12:03
It was when he went to jail, and then after
• 12:05
he was released. I was still working a little bit
• 12:07
for mister Endyke, but then he did get an assistant himself.
• 12:11
Question and you mentioned traveling assistance of mister Epstein throughout
• 12:14
the course of today's interview. Do you know who those
• 12:18
traveling assistants were? Answer? Yes, Do you want me to
• 12:22
tell you their names? Question? If you know them, please
• 12:26
answer sure. When I first started it was redacted and
• 12:28
then it was Sarah and she stayed for a long time.
• 12:32
Then there was redacted, redacted or redacted or redacted and redacted.
• 12:36
Those are the ones that come to my mind. Question, okay,
• 12:40
thank you. And out of all those employees, was there
• 12:43
any office gossip about him going to jail or any
• 12:45
speculation about his affinity for young women or girls? Ms Groff. No,
• 12:50
