- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, here we are, guys, our last break of
- 0:03Speaker 1: the day. It's been a great day. Thank you guys
- 0:08Speaker 1: for listening, as always. We appreciate it. Yeah, Junior, you
- 0:11Speaker 1: got a question for Steve?
- 0:12Speaker 2: Yeah. How do you.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Feel about people who make excuses for failures? How do
- 0:18Speaker 3: you feel about that?
- 0:21Speaker 2: When they make excuses for failures?
- 0:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, you know, like, it didn't work out for
- 0:26Speaker 3: me because, you know, I ain't do it this way.
- 0:28Speaker 3: I'll get it next time. You know, I'll try it again.
- 0:32Speaker 3: You know, they just keep making excuses for failures.
- 0:35Speaker 2: And excuses, period.
- 0:37Speaker 4: You know, I think everybody around me knows this, especially
- 0:41Speaker 4: people who work with me and people who work for me.
- 0:46Speaker 4: I think they all understand this. Steve Harvey does not
- 0:50Speaker 4: do excuses. The thing about an excuse... An excuse is
- 0:56Speaker 4: only good for the person that's providing it.
- 1:00Speaker 2: It does nothing for the recipient of the excuse.
- 1:05Speaker 4: It only provides a cushiony out or an explanation as
- 1:11Speaker 4: to why something didn't happen as said.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Or promised or committed to.
- 1:18Speaker 4: And that gives you a cushy out that you didn't
- 1:21Speaker 4: accomplish the task or you didn't follow through.
- 1:24Speaker 2: It does nothing.
- 1:26Speaker 4: An excuse does nothing for the person that's receiving it.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Because all I know is now, the thing that I've
- 1:33Speaker 4: been counting on, I've been waiting on you to get
- 1:36Speaker 4: here with it. When you get here, it ain't there.
- 1:39Speaker 4: It happens in every aspect of life. I had a
- 1:42Speaker 4: guy while I was at work was supposed to fix
- 1:45Speaker 4: my TV.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I came home. I'm ready, man. Been working all day.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Cut my TV on. Bam, it don't work. I called
- 1:54Speaker 2: this guy. He said, oh, yeah, Mr.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Harvey, I came by, but I had left a certain
- 2:03Speaker 4: tool that I needed, so I'm going to get to
- 2:05Speaker 4: it tomorrow. See, that excuse that he gave me as
- 2:09Speaker 4: to why my TV wasn't working, it didn't do nothing
- 2:11Speaker 4: for me. It created a reason why he didn't complete
- 2:16Speaker 4: the task. Now, I'm sitting here going, why don't you
- 2:19Speaker 4: bring all the tools you needed, Why didn't you go
- 2:21Speaker 4: back and get the tool and come back and fix
- 2:23Speaker 4: my TV? Both of them would have solved the problem.
- 2:27Speaker 4: But that would have been something extra he had to do.
- 2:31Speaker 4: So people who work with me or around me know
- 2:35Speaker 4: I don't do excuses. I don't do excuses. Because when
- 2:40Speaker 4: your paycheck is due, I don't call you at one.
- 2:43Speaker 4: I don't call nobody work for me and say, hey, man, listen,
- 2:48Speaker 4: you know, uh, You know that thing you was expecting?
- 2:51Speaker 4: You know that check you was supposed to get twice
- 2:55Speaker 4: a month? You ain't going to believe this, man. I
- 2:58Speaker 4: didn't fill out the paperwork, and now it's going to
- 3:03Speaker 4: be 10 days before y'all get paid.
- 3:06Speaker 3: What?
- 3:07Speaker 2: Wait a minute, man.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Because the average person, man, they need that check on
- 3:11Speaker 4: the day that it's supposed to be there.
- 3:13Speaker 2: They need it.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Now, I done gave them an excuse. Now, I'm going, man,
- 3:17Speaker 4: but my excuse is, It does only something for me.
- 3:20Speaker 4: It does nothing for them. So I don't use excuses,
- 3:25Speaker 4: and I don't allow for excuses because I don't give
- 3:27Speaker 4: nobody none. If I'm going to be late, I usually
- 3:30Speaker 4: tell you. I'll be a little late. I'll let you know.
- 3:35Speaker 4: But I don't know, Junior. I get frustrated, man, because excuses,
- 3:41Speaker 4: that's one of my pet peeves in life. I just
- 3:43Speaker 4: don't like them, man. Because I know that all that
- 3:46Speaker 4: means is you didn't accomplish the task. And why you didn't,
- 3:49Speaker 4: I don't care.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I really don't. I really don't.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Because what you finna tell me ain't gonna fix nothing
- 3:55Speaker 4: I need. What I needed for you to do was
- 3:57Speaker 4: what you said you was gonna do. That's what I needed.
- 4:00Speaker 4: I'm not an excuse person. You know, I just don't.
- 4:05Speaker 4: I'm just not, man. I mean, look, have you had
- 4:08Speaker 4: to give some people some excuses in your life?
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I have too.
- 4:13Speaker 4: But after I learned After I learned from them how
- 4:16Speaker 4: it made them feel, I stopped doing it. I don't
- 4:19Speaker 4: have excuses. Here's all you have to do to eliminate excuses.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Do what you say you're going to do. If you
- 4:31Speaker 4: do that, you ain't got no more excuses. Hey, man,
- 4:35Speaker 4: I'm going to pick you up at 2 o'clock. Man,
- 4:38Speaker 4: I had a flat tire, man. I'm going to get
- 4:42Speaker 4: to you by 2 o'clock some kind of way. And
- 4:45Speaker 4: if you can eliminate excuses, you will gain a lot
- 4:50Speaker 4: of trust and favor in all your relationships.
- 4:56Speaker 2: If you always tell your woman, hey, baby, I'm going.
- 4:58Speaker 4: To pick you up at 7 and 8 o'clock, she's
- 5:01Speaker 4: still looking for you. How do you think that's going
- 5:03Speaker 4: to work out if you keep doing that? How do
- 5:06Speaker 4: you think that works out? How do you think it
- 5:09Speaker 4: works out if you get a new job and you're
- 5:10Speaker 4: on probation for 90 days and you're supposed to be
- 5:13Speaker 4: there at 9 and you keep getting there at 9.15?
- 5:16Speaker 2: How do you think that's going to work out for you?
- 5:20Speaker 4: So, man, the best way to eliminate excuses is just
- 5:23Speaker 4: do what you say.
- 5:23Speaker 2: You're going to do. If I tell y'all I'm not
- 5:26Speaker 2: going to do something, Shirley?
- 5:30Speaker 1: No, sir, you will not.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Carla?
- 5:33Speaker 3: Nope.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Now, if I tell you I'm going to do something Yes.
- 5:39Speaker 2: You do it. You can really count on it. Yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Yep.
- 5:42Speaker 4: I am reliable and dependable, and my father raised me
- 5:46Speaker 4: to be that way. Man, my father would tell me
- 5:49Speaker 4: to do something, and I would start with an excuse
- 5:52Speaker 4: out of his mouth. Man, I don't want to hear
- 5:54Speaker 4: that BS. And he didn't do abbreviations.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Ha, ha, ha. He said the whole word.
- 6:06Speaker 4: I mean, as soon as I say why I ain't
- 6:07Speaker 4: do it, he said, man, I don't want to hear
- 6:09Speaker 4: that BS. I bet you better get over there and
- 6:11Speaker 4: get it done. And then, now I got to turn
- 6:13Speaker 4: around and go get it. So I learned real quick,
- 6:17Speaker 4: don't go in here to slick Harvey with any excuse
- 6:20Speaker 4: because he's not going to have it. Y'all have a
- 6:22Speaker 4: great day today, man. Talk to God today. He would
- 6:25Speaker 4: absolutely love for you, love to hear from you.
- 6:27Speaker 2: And you know what? Don't make any excuses.
