- 0:37Welcome to MAN Talk 133, where me and unite.
- 0:42Welcome to the show. Tonight I'm your host, Saul
- 0:46Whitaker, and tonight we're going to be talking about
- 0:51something that strong men rarely ever talk about.
- 0:55What happens with the man everybody depends on gets tired.
- 1:00Not lazy, not responsible, not weak.
- 1:06Tired. Tired in his body, Tired in his
- 1:10mind, tired in his spirit, tired of caring expectations that
- 1:16never seems to get lighter. Some men wake up tired, work
- 1:23tired, lived, lead, tired love, tired love their families tired
- 1:28serving minutes retired, and then lie at night in the bed
- 1:33awake, tired 'cause their minds will not let them rest right.
- 1:39But we go into further. Hey, check out check out my
- 1:41platforms, Facebook us talking man Talk 133 on all the other
- 1:49platforms, Instagram, iHeartRadio, Spotify, Pandora,

- 2:04Oh, and the apparel, then we get the apparel Man talk 133 apparel
- 2:09ceo.com, this man talk 133 apparel company.com.
- 2:16Check me out, see what I got, maybe some up there.
- 2:18You like never, never, never know.
- 2:21All right, so for the way they lay in the bed at night, tired,
- 2:26right? But nobody sees what it cost
- 2:30them. You know, people congratulate
- 2:33their strength, you know, and but they don't want to always
- 2:36notice the strain that they go through, right?
- 2:40So here's a question I want to put out there tonight.
- 2:45Who checks on who checks on the man everybody checks with?
- 2:51Who becomes a safe place? Who gives him permission to say,
- 2:56I don't have it today? The day just ain't my day,
- 2:58y'all. I can't I ain't got it without
- 3:01treating him like he has lost his value, meaning that you
- 3:08know, if he just said, hey, look, I I'm I'm I'm just tired,
- 3:11you know, and everybody be like, well, hey, I thought you
- 3:14supposed to be the leader around here, bro.
- 3:16You can't tote the load like you normally used to tote it.
- 3:20Like I mean, come on there, we looking to you.
- 3:24What happens? This conversation is not
- 3:28teaching me anything about running away from
- 3:30responsibility. That's not what it's about.
- 3:31It's teaching them to carry responsibility without losing
- 3:35themselves. It's about recognizing the
- 3:39strength that without rest becomes strange.
- 3:42So you got to as men. I'm speaking for my man because
- 3:46I'm a man. You got to get rest, no question
- 3:51about it. You got to.
- 3:54It's OK to look strong. It's OK to, you know, you know,
- 4:00I got this thing right. But the name of the show isn't
- 4:07tonight is when strong men get tired, the weight nobody sees.
- 4:15So it's not about you, you know, running away from
- 4:17responsibility. It's about you recognizing the
- 4:19strength without rest become strange, service without
- 4:23boundaries become resentment, and silence without support
- 4:27becomes suffering. Think about that for a minute,
- 4:31man. Let's think about that for one
- 4:34second, OK? One second.
- 4:36Just give yourself a man to think about that.
- 4:40I mean, if you put if, if, if you think about it from from a
- 4:46man's perspective, right? Some men, if you're tired,
- 4:55hopeful, angry, focus, overwhelm, grateful, numb,
- 4:59whatever it is, some men feel like that.
- 5:03So tonight we're going to talk about the invisible weight.
- 5:08Invisible weight men carry. Why some men hide exhaustion.
- 5:15What? What the cost of it?
- 5:17What? What the cost of exhaust?
- 5:19What? Sorry y'all, let me slow it
- 5:22down. Bring it down for a minute.
- 5:25Wu Shah this live, so take a minute.
- 5:34What that exhaustion cost genuine recovery, what genuine
- 5:39recovery looks like, and how faith and brotherhood can help
- 5:43us become honest without surrendering our strength.
- 5:49And at the end of the show, stay with me till the end of the
- 5:51show, I'm going to give you a 7 day strongman reset.
- 5:57You can begin immediately. Let's let's get into it man.
- 6:01Let's get into it. Let's begin with the invisible
- 6:06weight. A man can look completely in
- 6:09control like me. I look in control.
- 6:11Don't I look like I'm in control?
- 6:19That may break. Excuse me?
- 6:24Is an example, y'all? I'm just saying.
- 6:27He may be paying bills, raising children, checking on parents,
- 6:29trying to protect their marriage, working overtime,
- 6:32serving people, building the dream and answering everybody
- 6:35who calls. From the outside, he looked
- 6:37dependable. On the inside, he may feel like
- 6:41a bridge, carrying more traffic than is designed to hold.
- 6:47You can't be Superman, men. You can't do it.
- 6:50You. I'm, I'm, I'm gonna keep going,
- 6:53y'all. I'm gonna keep going 'cause I
- 6:54I'm gonna get into some other stuff later on.
- 6:58Men are often praised for what we carry.
- 7:02Think about it. From childhood, many of us heard
- 7:06versions of this. Be tough, don't cry.
- 7:09Figure it out. Protect everybody, especially
- 7:13little sister, little brother, whatever right provide, no
- 7:17matter what. If you got to work 10 jobs to
- 7:19go, do it. Never let them see your sweat.
- 7:23I know all of us have heard them before.
- 7:27Now, some of these lessons did teach discipline, some taught
- 7:30endurance. But some taught us to hide our
- 7:34ordinary human limits, like how far we can really go.
- 7:37Because, you know, some men can go and they'll do it even when
- 7:45they don't want to do it. So they're carrying this silent
- 7:48weight that nobody, they're carrying this silent, this
- 7:52invisible weight. And nobody see, I haven't.
- 7:55When the strong man get tired. When a strong man gets tired, a
- 7:59man begins to believe that his value is connected only to his
- 8:03usefulness. If you can fix it, fund it, lift
- 8:09it, lead it, and protect it, he feels valuable.
- 8:12Without debt, he don't feel valuable anymore.
- 8:19Take that away from him. What does he have right?
- 8:23This does does it kind of what some men feel like, right?
- 8:28When he cannot do that, Shane begins to talk to him.
- 8:34You fail like the shame and nobody got to say it in their
- 8:37mind like, hey, you should have known better.
- 8:40Now somebody tell them, hey man, you should have known better
- 8:42than that. You have made more money or this
- 8:46wouldn't happen. You wouldn't have to borrow
- 8:48nothing from nobody. We just made more money.
- 8:51You should have been stronger, stabbing like a punk.
- 8:54You remember back in the day you told you don't be a punk, you
- 9:01shouldn't need help. You're the man of the house.
- 9:04And because shame speaks in the language of failure, many men
- 9:09suffer rather than risking being as seen as insufficient.
- 9:17Think about that. They would rather they would
- 9:21already carry all this weight on their back.
- 9:26Just imagine this, all right, your weight that you could just
- 9:30say you can carry safely and say £20, right, easily, no problem,
- 9:3720 lbs easily, right? And well, for the, for the next
- 9:43couple of weeks, I'm going to give you extra 30 lbs and now
- 9:46you're carrying 50 lbs. But because you want to look
- 9:50strong to everybody else, you'll try to carry that weight even
- 9:55though your back hurting, your knees hurting, you want to cry
- 10:00all that blisters on your feet and all just all of that.
- 10:06But you're still trying to carry it because you want to look
- 10:09sufficient. You want to look like you in
- 10:11control as rather than just say, you know what, there's just too
- 10:16much. I can somebody help me with
- 10:17this? There are at least five kinds of
- 10:21weights a man may be carrying at the same time.
- 10:25The first one is financial weight.
- 10:29The financial weight is a tough piece.
- 10:32He may be trying to keep the lights on, make the mortgage,
- 10:36hand the car repairs, pay for medication, help grown children
- 10:42and rebuild out the set back. If he's had ever had a set back,
- 10:47think about that. He's he's covering all that.
- 10:50Now. I'm not saying that the women
- 10:51don't help. Women don't get mad.
- 10:54I ain't saying y'all don't help. I'm just saying these are the
- 10:56things he feel like he needs to do as a man.
- 11:00I got to do this no matter what. Some guys only want their wife
- 11:04to work. They'll they'll rather you take
- 11:06care of the house and I'll go take everything else where they
- 11:11got to work 80 hours a week or whatever they got to do.
- 11:14Now when they're doing it, they're still sacrificing time
- 11:20for money. Basically time with their family
- 11:22for money. Then when they get off on the
- 11:24weekend, they dog tired and can't enjoy the weekend with,
- 11:29you know, with their family or whatever anyway, so they got to
- 11:33do all this stuff. Even when nobody asked him
- 11:37directly, he still may feel that every need in the house is
- 11:42silently looking at him for him to do, which is a true statement
- 11:49no matter what. A man, if he's a, if he's a real
- 11:54man financially, he want to try to make sure everything is good,
- 11:59period. He want to make sure if he got
- 12:02to work overtime, work another job.
- 12:05I mean, one time I was working, but I don't know, I miss it.
- 12:08I was in the AF force. I was in school full time
- 12:14working a full time job and delivering papers at one time.
- 12:22A The bills got to be paid y'all, you got to do what you
- 12:24got to do sometime. The second is emotional weight.
- 12:27He may be grieving somebody, disappointed in himself, afraid
- 12:31of losing the relationship, you know, with his homeboys, you
- 12:35know, or his brother. They didn't got into an
- 12:37argument, you know, struggling with an old wound that never
- 12:41fully healed. You know why?
- 12:44Because he has never developed the language of that pain, you
- 12:49know, for that pain he's never come to grasp with it.
- 12:55And if you don't handle that man, it may be, may come out as
- 12:58anger, distant sarcasm, overworking and shutting or
- 13:04shutting down. That's basically self
- 13:06medicating. That's why so many, so many men
- 13:09go to alcohol because they're self medicating, self medicating
- 13:14with alcohol, self medicating with, you know, with different
- 13:17things. It's, it's the same thing as
- 13:20this right here, anger, dissing, sarcasm, overworking,
- 13:24overworking themselves. I'm come out.
- 13:27Just work those fingers to the bone.
- 13:29Like they just just tie it when they get off work.
- 13:34But they have not dealt with the, the, the disappointment
- 13:41that he may have experienced or, you know, suffering from an old
- 13:46wound. You know what I mean?
- 13:47You never know what it could. It could be a number of things.
- 13:49I'm just naming a few of them because those are some of the
- 13:52ones I saw when I did my research.
- 13:54All you know what I'm saying? Third is relational weight.
- 14:04A man may love his family and still feel misunderstood inside
- 14:08his own home. He may be trying to communicate
- 14:11with a spouse who hears criticism when he means concern.
- 14:17He may be trying to guide children who seem to reject
- 14:21everything he says. He may be caring responsibility
- 14:24for Asian parents by trying to, by trying not to worry anyone.
- 14:32Now this relational thing, relational 1, I don't think
- 14:37there's a, a major one in a lot of households.
- 14:40I can't say it ain't their minds, so I can't really say
- 14:43that it could be a real major one in families.
- 14:47I I, I don't know, but it's you know, I just I can't relate to
- 14:50that one that well, you know what I mean?
- 14:54Before I go into the next one. I got to go to a break, y'all.
- 14:58I will be right back after the break.
- 15:00Stats tell that each day, 22 veterans commit suicide due to
- 15:05PTSD. These stats shook us and urged
- 15:08us to do our part. After hours and hours of
- 15:11thinking, beekeeping for veterans was born.
- 15:15Beekeeping for veterans combines beekeeping with mindfulness
- 15:19meditation. Why combine them?
- 15:21Here's why. Beekeeping causes positive rush
- 15:25of adrenaline. While beekeeping you have to be
- 15:28calm during it. You are mindful of your
- 15:30movements. Each week, a veteran will
- 15:33receive a mindful meditation to build emotional and mental skill
- 15:37sets. Mindfulness is a set of three
- 15:39attentional skills that work together, concentration, sensory
- 15:43clarity and equanimity, mental calmness, composure, evenness of
- 15:48temper. Every time mindfulness is
- 15:50practiced, we build these skills.
- 15:53Beekeeping for veterans not only helps veterans overcome
- 15:56emotional trauma but also aids our environment as without bees
- 16:01there is no food. Come forward.
- 16:03The people who have supported your country now need your
- 16:06support. Military broadcast radio, the
- 16:15station that's giving veterans a voice.

- 16:22Opinions expressed in this program are those of the
- 16:24speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views or positions
- 16:29of any entities they represent. Welcome back to Man Talk 1/3
- 16:34through A Man Unite. Tonight we're talking about when
- 16:37strong men get tired, the weight nobody sees.
- 16:45So I talked about before the break, you know, I went through
- 16:47a couple of them. You know, I went through the
- 16:49financial weight, the emotional weight, the relational weight.
- 16:54And the 4th is identity weight, the pressure to know who you are
- 17:02when the uniform comes off because you work so much.
- 17:09Let me finish reading that. Y'all pressure to know who
- 17:13y'all? When the uniform comes off, the
- 17:15job ends, the children leave, the ministry changes, the
- 17:18business slows down, or your body can no longer do what it
- 17:21once did. I talked about this before.
- 17:27You know what happens when like football players when they don't
- 17:31hear the applause no more? What happens, you know, when,
- 17:36when, when nobody's cheering for them and they they're not the
- 17:40top player no more. And you know, like they were at
- 17:45at the time, right? So they so, so men, regular men,
- 17:51you know, that work jobs struggle with that same thing.
- 17:54You know, the identity of them trying to figure out who they
- 17:57are. They work so much, they're so
- 18:00invested in their job, they don't understand who they are.
- 18:06Like kids leave, right? What I'm going to do now because
- 18:13that's all I used to work for. I used to work all the time for
- 18:17the kids, make sure the kids were good and the house is good.
- 18:20You know what I mean? The ministry changes.
- 18:24People leave now if you're down from, you know, 5 or 600 to 100,
- 18:35how do you deal with that? If you stick with me at the end,
- 18:40I'm going to give you that seven step that's going to help you
- 18:42out with that for sure. Veterans understand this.
- 18:47Retired men understand, understand this.
- 18:49Men who are laid off understand this.
- 18:52When your title has been holding your identity together,
- 18:56transition can feel like disappearance or example.
- 19:02You're known in the military as you know, Master Sergeant so and
- 19:06so Master Sergeant Whitaker, that what I'm known as in the
- 19:10military. Now, when you retire, you ain't
- 19:13Master Sergeant no more. You go to DMV, you just regular
- 19:17Shawl Whitaker. That's who you are.
- 19:21And you so used to having that title, Master Sergeant or
- 19:25whatever your title is or was. And let me say this too, I was
- 19:30not a master Sergeant. I just used this, used that as
- 19:33an example, Y'all, I was not a master Sergeant Whitaker or
- 19:37drill instructor Whitaker. I want none of that.
- 19:39I'm just saying I just use that as an example.
- 19:43But when men go through this process, the titles is what hope
- 19:49is what was holding them to get. That was their identity.
- 19:52The uniform was their identity. I've known guys that have worked
- 19:59at the job for 40 years. That was the identity.
- 20:03That's all they've ever known. And then when they retire six
- 20:08months later, they passed away. Never got to enjoy life.
- 20:12Ever got to enjoy life. I'm just saying, like when you
- 20:17take the uniform off and you're not, people now say, hey,
- 20:22Madison would have, hey, you know.
- 20:24A wit let me, let me holla at you for Master Sergeant, let me
- 20:27holla at you for a minute. And and they don't hear that
- 20:30anymore. They feel like disappearance.
- 20:33They, they like, they draw back. They don't know how to they
- 20:36don't know how to handle that. So man, we got to figure that
- 20:39out. The fifth one is a spiritual
- 20:41weight. A man may be praying, serving
- 20:46and encouraging other people while probably wondering why God
- 20:52feels why wondering why God feels quiet like I mean, I'm
- 20:57praying for all these people. I mean, I mean, I ain't got out
- 21:01and pray for some stuff for me too and and and and and and and
- 21:06why you quiet on me? I see everybody else
- 21:08celebrating, you know, getting their stuff.
- 21:11What's going on with me? I'm, I've been praying for
- 21:14everybody. Don't wait.
- 21:15No, you got to kind of, you know, on my behalf.
- 21:20You know what I'm saying? That's, that's how they feel,
- 21:22right? So he may feel guilty for being
- 21:27tired because he thinks fatigue makes weak faith.
- 21:34But exhaustion is not evidence that God has abandoned you, and
- 21:39rest is not rebellion against your assignment.
- 21:42You got to get rest so you can properly handle your assignment.
- 21:48You got to get sleep so you can and rest.
- 21:50And they not necessarily sleep all the time, but you got to get
- 21:53rest so that you can properly handle the assignment that God
- 22:01has given you. If it's but to pray for other
- 22:04men or it's for a lead, a man's prayer, whatever, you can't 6:00
- 22:14in the morning, you stayed at 3:00.
- 22:16You're always cleaning out. You get up on the call, that's
- 22:22seven and you said the call was at six and everybody gone.
- 22:26So you got to be get enough rest to be able to properly properly,
- 22:30properly handle the assignment. I promise you God ain't going to
- 22:36get mad if you get to rest. It's in the Bible.
- 22:40I think it is a Psalms 127. I think it talks about that.
- 22:45He give it is vain to sit up late and rise up early and eat
- 22:51the sorrows of life. I think it's Psalm 127.
- 22:54I think anyway, it's in there. Go look it up.
- 22:58It's definitely in there. So He ain't going, He ain't
- 23:01going to spank you for you getting some rest.
- 23:06They're thinking for the men that's watching.
- 23:07Think about your own life. Think about it.
- 23:11What weight is heaviest right now?
- 23:14Financial, emotional, relational identity or spiritual?
- 23:22Think about it. If, if, if you're, if, if
- 23:25you're, if you're accountable, you're more than welcome to put
- 23:30it in the chat. You know, you know, put one of
- 23:33the words in the comments, you know, wherever you feel like you
- 23:36are, You know what I'm saying? You ain't got you don't got to
- 23:40tell the whole story. Just identify your category name
- 23:44the weight. Naming the weight helps us stop
- 23:49threatening every problem like a giant foul.
- 23:53So where you at right now? What's the heaviest financial,
- 23:59emotional, relational identity and spiritual?
- 24:02I think for most people, I ain't going to say more.
- 24:05I can't speak, you know, almost all speaking for most people, I
- 24:08ain't going to say most people. For some people, I would say
- 24:12spiritually and financially and emotionally, that's what I would
- 24:18say. I'm not sure, but that's what I
- 24:20would say. I don't know.
- 24:21All right, so now I do want to make a distinction.
- 24:28A heavy season does not automatically mean you're,
- 24:31you're doing life wrong. That's that's not, that's not
- 24:36the case. It's not the case at all.
- 24:39Sometimes the season is heavy because life is changing.
- 24:42For example, sometimes you might be grieving like somebody passed
- 24:48away. You can't get past it.
- 24:51You know, you, you struggling with getting past it.
- 24:54You know what I mean? It's just like you can't believe
- 24:57it. You got to can't believe things
- 24:59or I can't believe that happened and you can't get past it.
- 25:05You're stuck in the grief. You know what I mean?
- 25:09Sometimes you are building, trying to build life, just
- 25:14trying to build it and build it and build it.
- 25:17And it's hard and heavy in that season.
- 25:20Sometimes you care for people you love.
- 25:25You know, some people do that. Some people are true caretakers.
- 25:29They take care of their parents, you know, they take him to the
- 25:32doctor's appointments and all the things.
- 25:35Shout out to my brother OB whatever, whatever, homie, he do
- 25:40it. Shout out to my guy Antonio.
- 25:43He do it too, man. He you know, they it's other
- 25:46people too with I know that they really do it taking the parents
- 25:50to appointments, making sure they're good, taking care of
- 25:54them, you know, and stuff like that.
- 25:56He definitely the liaison and envy appreciate you, bro.
- 25:59Envy, a Rocky Mount area. Y'all, y'all get it.
- 26:03So sometimes you're carrying care for people you love.
- 26:06The problem is not that way to exist.
- 26:10The danger begins when you convince yourself that you must
- 26:14carry every piece alone. If you feel like you're
- 26:19carrying, gotta carry everything alone, seek some help, seek some
- 26:24help. Get somebody to actually kind of
- 26:28kind of help you out with it, because you're going to need
- 26:31help. You cannot do everything on your
- 26:33own. Men, men, you can't do it all on
- 26:38your own. I know you feel like you can,
- 26:41but you can't, all right? Strong men often become the
- 26:46emergency contact for everybody else, but do not have an
- 26:51emergency emergency contact for their own soul.
- 26:57They know who to call when the car breaks down, but when their
- 27:03coverage breaks down, what happens?
- 27:08They have a mechanic, a Barber or pastor, supervisor or doctor,
- 27:11but yet may not have one person who knows how the how the
- 27:17unedited truth about them. They don't know the unedited
- 27:21truth. And you know what I'm going to
- 27:22do y'all? I'm going to slow down because
- 27:24I'm talking so fast. I'm reading and trying to talk
- 27:27and process everything at the same time.
- 27:30So I'm going to slow down a little bit so y'all can get what
- 27:33I'm saying, right. So let me let, let me read that
- 27:37one more time. They know who to call when the
- 27:43car breaks down, but not when their coverage breaks down.
- 27:49They have a mechanic, a Barber, a pastor, a supervisor, and a
- 27:54doctor. Yet they may not have one person
- 27:58who knows the unedited truth about them.
- 28:03That's why it's good to talk to y'all.
- 28:04Why y'all married? Talk to your wife.
- 28:06Tell you the unedited truth. That's a good thing to do.
- 28:10Tell her the unedited truth. Y'all straight up, you know what
- 28:14I'm saying? Make sure y'all do that.
- 28:18Brotherhood is not just about being around other men.
- 28:20I think that that's what we get mixed up.
- 28:23We think we have to be around men for it to be a brotherhood,
- 28:29right? Man Talk 133 is building a
- 28:32coalition of men all over the world, anywhere in the world.
- 28:39That's what Man Talk 133 is is trying to do, Build coalition of
- 28:45men. If we need some in Texas, we got
- 28:47people in Texas. If you need some in North
- 28:49Carolina, we got people in North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, all
- 28:53over California. That's where Man Talk 133 is
- 28:56trying to do, to build a coalition of men so that we can
- 29:02work together as 11 unit. That's what the whole goal of
- 29:07Man Talk 133 is. So brotherhood is just not about
- 29:10being around with the men. Brotherhood is having
- 29:12relationships where truth can survive.
- 29:18It is the freedom to say I'm not OK.
- 29:22And no other men will not gossip, minimize, compete, or
- 29:26turn your pain into a sermon before he listens past us.
- 29:34We got to stop that y'all. When people come tell y'all
- 29:38something because I, you know, I teach the word myself, word of
- 29:42God myself, myself, my wife, we both teach the word of God at
- 29:46our church, right? So we can't take, we can't be
- 29:51have people come talk to us and then we go do a message about
- 29:57it. That's not how that works.
- 29:58We can't do that. And if you do that to men, you
- 30:02then lost them 1000%. But I'll be right back after the
- 30:06break y'all. Military broadcast radio The
- 33:05station that's giving veterans a voice.
- 33:07Find us. On the web at MB radio dot US.
- 33:11Opinions expressed in this program are those of the
- 33:14speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views or positions
- 33:19of any entities they represent. Welcome back to Man Talk 133 O
- 33:26Menunite. Tonight we're talking about when
- 33:31strong men get tired, the weight nobody sees.
- 33:36So when with the break, I was just talking about how, you
- 33:38know, passes don't turn propane into a message.
- 33:42Don't do that. That ain't, that ain't cool
- 33:44'cause you got, sometimes you got one chance with men and if
- 33:49you blow it, they're gone. So we got to be a little bit
- 33:52more strategic in how we do that.
- 33:54You know what I mean? We can't just, you know, 'cause
- 33:57you don't ran out of information.
- 33:58It's a whole 66 books you can write a message about.
- 34:03You know what I mean? You ain't got to write a message
- 34:06about somebody that became to you in confidentiality.
- 34:12It's all I'm saying. So, yeah, no dealt with with.
- 34:16That's what I said when we for winter break.
- 34:18But anyway, let me hop back into this show, y'all.
- 34:21Some of us are carrying things that belong to somebody else.
- 34:27Think about that. Somebody come tell you
- 34:30something. Come tell you something like,
- 34:33hey, you know this what's going on with me, you know, blah,
- 34:36blah, blah, blah, blah. And now that thing that
- 34:40transferred on you, you know what I'm saying?
- 34:42Now you got to try to shake that off because you like, man, I
- 34:45hate that going through that after that, I hate that going
- 34:49through that. Now you're going through it with
- 34:51them. You're trying to make grown
- 34:52people make healthy decisions. You can't do that.
- 34:57They going to do what they want to do.
- 35:02You are paying consequences that your boundaries should have
- 35:05allowed them to face. Listen, you can't solve
- 35:09everything for everybody. Help is good.
- 35:12Help is a great thing, very great thing, a great thing.
- 35:16But you can't help everybody. Y'all.
- 35:18You got to do your part what you can do and that's it.
- 35:21Ask yourself these three questions what is mine to carry?
- 35:27What is mine to share? What was mine in the first?
- 35:31What was never mines in the 1st place?
- 35:35Think about it. What was mines in the 1st place?
- 35:39That that third question right there going to free some of
- 35:42y'all straight up like why? Why am I?
- 35:48Why am I carrying somebody else's stuff?
- 35:52Straight up? I I don't need to be doing that,
- 35:54you know what I'm saying? Your strength should serve your
- 35:58purpose, not destroy the person carrying the purpose.
- 36:07You should have enough strength to be able to serve your
- 36:13purpose. If your purpose is to reach the
- 36:15youth, you should have enough strength to do that with, with
- 36:20the mental capabilities or whatever you want to call it.
- 36:24You should have that to be able to serve your purpose.
- 36:30You get what I'm saying? I'm just saying we should, we
- 36:33should be able to take that. We should be able to do that.
- 36:36You know what I mean? So why do men hide exhaustion?
- 36:45Why do men hide? They know they're exhausted,
- 36:48right? Why they try to hide it?
- 36:53Why do men try to hide exact exhaustion?
- 36:56That's you know what I mean? Why the easiest answer would be
- 37:02pride, right? I mean, we, but pride is just a
- 37:07part of it. You get what I'm saying?
- 37:10Like, you know, some people are hide exhaustion because they
- 37:14don't want to look like they're weak, you know, and then when
- 37:18you don't do what you're supposed to do, that's exactly
- 37:21what you look like weak. You get what I'm saying?
- 37:24So listen, we got to stop hiding the exhaustion.
- 37:29Pride comes before the great fall sometime men.
- 37:34I'm I'm gonna tell you another reason why I think men hide
- 37:37exhaustion, right? It's because they were
- 37:44previously punished. This it was happen if a man
- 37:48opened up and somebody mocked him.
- 37:54He admitted fear and was later used against him in the
- 37:58argument. He cried and was so hey, boy
- 38:03tight, you know, look, you're a grown man.
- 38:06Cut that out wrong with you, you know, crying up and he'll stop
- 38:10it. I'm hanging like a baby.
- 38:13He asked for help and he felt like he got judged, so he made
- 38:19the decision. I will never give anybody that
- 38:23kind of access again, period. I'm never doing that again.
- 38:32So we got to be very, very, very careful with how we do that with
- 38:37men. We got to because we can lose
- 38:42the man when they're trying to really, and they're really
- 38:47trying to open up, you know what I'm saying?
- 38:54When they're trying to open up, it's, it's, it's hard because if
- 38:58they've been hurt before, they're not going to do it.
- 39:01They definitely not going to do it.
- 39:03So before I get over here, get out of here, give you God, the
- 39:07men, the men. I'm going to give the men the
- 39:10seven steps to recovery. The first step is permission.
- 39:16Give yourself commit permission to admit that the old place is
- 39:21not working. Men often wait for a breakdown
- 39:27just to justify a break. Nah, give yourself permission to
- 39:34admit the old, that the old place is not working.
- 39:38Second step is assessment, ask or question.
- 39:44What is draining me? What is restoring me?
- 39:47What can be changed now, what requires a longer plan and be
- 39:53specific. Don't say everything ain't
- 39:55draining because everything don't drain.
- 39:59Name the meeting, name the debt, name the conflict, name the
- 40:02schedule, name the expectation or the unresolved grief.
- 40:06Clarity turns fog into decisions.
- 40:10You got to do it. Third step.
- 40:15Is on this conversation, choose the person affected by your
- 40:21current condition and speak clearly to a spouse.
- 40:26You might say, hey, Lil, I ain't I ain't been physically present.
- 40:32I've been physically present but emotionally absent.
- 40:36I ain't blaming you though. I'm just saying this is this is
- 40:39exactly what happened. You know, this is what's been
- 40:41going on, or you can your supervisor might say to you,
- 40:45hey, I want you to maintain quality, but the camera workload
- 40:49is creating avoidable errors. You got to you got to just
- 40:57figure out how to earn this conversation.
- 41:01Step #4 step #4 is restoration through basics.
- 41:08Sleep is not the reward for finishing everything.
- 41:13Nothing is ever completely finished.
- 41:15Never build a bedtime that protects tomorrow's judgment.
- 41:21Reduce late night stimulation when possible.
- 41:25Eat consistently. Drink water.
- 41:28Move your body schedule. Overdo health appointments.
- 41:31That's another thing, man, we got to get on.
- 41:35These practices are not glamorous, but the foundations
- 41:39rarely are. Listen, we got to get to these
- 41:43appointments. We got to, we got to get to
- 41:46these appointments, period. If they overdo, I'm talking to
- 41:53y'all because I'm talking to me too.
- 41:55You know, I've had all my stuff done except for my eye exam.
- 41:58I got to go get my eye exam. And then I think October, I got
- 42:02some other things going on, but this is physical.
- 42:05But I got to get my eyes done. This is one of the appointments
- 42:07I need to get taken care of. Y'all being honest with you.
- 42:10So I'm up here just talking and then I, I like I got it all
- 42:13together. Nope.
- 42:14I've been about a year and a half and I got to go get my eyes
- 42:17checked. Period.
- 42:20You see what I'm saying? The fifth step is boundaries.
- 42:26Everyone spends time, energy, attention or money.
- 42:34No, I'm sorry I'm married. I forgot one of my words y'all I
- 42:38got. I got the readers on and still
- 42:40missing word. We got to get this together.
- 42:43I just talked about my eyes. Just did it.
- 42:47Every yes spends time, energy, attention, money before saying
- 42:52yes as to whether the request fits your values and current
- 42:57capacity. They lay the answer when
- 43:01necessary. Don't be people pleasing people
- 43:07pleasing person. Everything they say yeah, I got
- 43:10it. I say yeah, I got it, I got it
- 43:12sometime. Think about it.
- 43:13I have. I'm telling y'all from
- 43:14experience. I have been like that before.
- 43:18So don't. It'll wear you out.
- 43:21I'm telling you, let me check my schedule to get back to you.
- 43:23You know what I'm saying? 6th step Is support appropriate?
- 43:31Is the support appropriate to the weight?
- 43:33A financial problem may need a budget and clarify financial
- 43:38guidance. A medical symptom may need a
- 43:42clinician. A trauma history may need a
- 43:45licensed mental health professional.
- 43:47A spiritual struggle may need a mature pastor or spiritual
- 43:52mentor. A marriage pattern may need
- 43:55counseling. Do not keep taking every problem
- 43:58to the same tool. It's not going to work, ain't
- 44:02going to work y'all. I'm telling you, it's not going
- 44:04to work. Just ain't.
- 44:08A clinician can't help you with with spiritual struggles.
- 44:15They, some of them believe in what they believe in.
- 44:18So ain't going to get into that. You know what I'm saying?
- 44:21I'm just not y'all. The 7th step is rediscovering
- 44:27joy that does not have to produce anything, just happy for
- 44:33no reason. What do you enjoy that does not
- 44:38make money? Build a platform, solve a
- 44:41problem or prove your worth? Which one?
- 44:44Other than those that don't have to make money, don't have?
- 44:47You don't have to be on Instagram, your Facebook, none
- 44:49of that music, fishing, bowling, working on a car, walking,
- 44:55reading, playing the bass. I play the bass, y'all straight
- 44:58up four string and I'm getting pretty good at it.
- 45:02Yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm putting in time.
- 45:04I pull a play a four string bass at the church.
- 45:08So I'm getting pretty good at that thing too.
- 45:09I'm telling you, sitting outside don't cost you nothing.
- 45:15Time with people who don't need a performance from you.
- 45:20You can just sit and let your head down and just talk to them.
- 45:26Recreation. Recreation reminds the nervous
- 45:33system that life is more important than emergencies and
- 45:38outcomes. So in other words, take a break,
- 45:46chill, calm down. That's all you got to do before
- 45:52I get out, get out of here. I got to.
- 45:53I want to. I want to address the
- 45:55entrepreneurs, creators, passes, leaders.
- 46:00Your gift can become the place where you hide from life.
- 46:06Work feels controllable, so you stay busy.
- 46:10The platform gives affirmation so you avoid quiet.
- 46:15The ministry give purpose so you neglect your own healing.
- 46:19Productivity can be socially rewarded, a socially rewarded
- 46:24form of avoidance. So listen, before I get out of
- 46:28here tonight, I want to thank y'all for joining Man Talk 133
