[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, folks, welcome to the episode of Film Study.
• 0:04
[SPEAKER_00]: This is Ken McKiesick, very brief, short for you today.
• 0:08
[SPEAKER_00]: This may be the shortest short in film study history, but it's kind of a humorous moment on the Atlanta scoreboard that I want to talk about for a few minutes on Sunday night football.
• 0:22
  [SPEAKER_00]: Now,
• 0:23
[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, thanks at a big hat tip to Andrew Ganses who took a picture, he's at the game, he took a picture of the scoreboard when the Falcons posted the inactive's list for the Ravens, and I'm going to post that right now, include this in the video here, and I hope you can see that, not sure if you can, but it lists six inactive players and their positions,
• 0:51
[SPEAKER_00]: Andrew Voorhees inside linebacker, Cam Jurgen's, I think that's just his linebacker, and then Elijah Sarat, wide receiver, and right at the top, Lamar Jackson running back.
• 1:06
[SPEAKER_00]: So, you see something like this, at first of all, I guess the person assumption at an NFL stadium, that this is just some sort of error that's happened.
• 1:16
  [SPEAKER_00]: There's a look here.
• 1:18
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, I'm reading it for the listeners here, but when I first saw that, I thought it's probably an error and then I thought, you know what?
• 1:23
[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably actually a joke, because somebody is responsible for that at school board operator, and he's got some arch nemesis within the organization
• 1:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Off a sheet so that he would enter them that way and look like an idiot and maybe the scoreboard guy is You know, he's a he's a music guy or whatever.
• 1:45
[SPEAKER_00]: He's not a big football fan It's he doesn't necessarily know the positions although it's a pretty long stretch to believe he doesn't know You know what position Lamar Jackson plays
• 1:54
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what I thought the initial thing was.
• 1:58
[SPEAKER_00]: And then maybe a member of the PR staff who's not popular, nepotistic relationship, all those kind of things that can't happen in football and they're just, somebody's out together.
• 2:08
[SPEAKER_00]: But then I talked to some other folks who live in Georgia, including a huge brand of this show, who's a big Georgia Bulldogs fan, you probably already know I'm talking about Jake Vogel.
• 2:18
[SPEAKER_00]: He says, no, they do that kind of stuff all the time in Atlanta.
• 2:23
[SPEAKER_00]: petty little stuff on the video boards.
• 2:25
[SPEAKER_00]: And any mention, one specific one related to the New Orleans Saints, little background on this, because the Steelers and the Ravens have a rivalry.
• 2:37
[SPEAKER_00]: The bears and the Packers have a rivalry.
• 2:40
[SPEAKER_00]: The Saints and the Falcons by comparison is the micro penis of NFL rivalries.
• 2:47
[SPEAKER_00]: When the Saints visited Atlanta though, it's been said they are simply listed as visitor on the board, not Saints or New Orleans, so interesting little different way to do it is kind of petty doesn't mean a lot but other teams are treated a little bit differently in that regard and honestly it's not that
• 3:08
[SPEAKER_00]: different from what the Ravens originally did when the cults would come to town, they would put up indie on their score line.
• 3:16
[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't, I don't think terrible either, and it was born of the cities.
• 3:20
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, very deep hatred for the earth says, but also, I don't think it crosses the line of being unprofessional either case.
• 3:28
[SPEAKER_00]: I think you know, putting a visitor or using indie either case,
• 3:35
[SPEAKER_00]: add Indianapolis in the 2009 playoff game, I did witness an incredibly unprofessional and unpolitically correct pre-game ceremony where there's a skit being done by the Colts mask guy who's that ridiculous looking blue horse and someone who has dressed up in a Ravens jersey
• 3:58
[SPEAKER_00]: who was portrayed as a homosexual coming out of a box.
• 4:02
[SPEAKER_00]: It might have been intended to be a closet or something like that, but they were coming out of a box and, you know, they were dressed up and it was makeup and it was weird, but it was unbelievably politically correct, that politically incorrect.
• 4:15
[SPEAKER_00]: This happened in 2009, by the way, not 1960.
• 4:18
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so there's obviously our expectations of behavior changed over the years, but by 2009, this was pretty silly.
• 4:25
[SPEAKER_00]: And I, you know, I commented on the politically correct this to the, to the guy sitting next to me, because yeah, you're probably okay here in Indiana, kind of, with that sort of stuff.
• 4:35
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not saying this is not going on anywhere else, but this was, you know, it was across the line in that way for, for that display in Indianapolis.
• 4:45
[SPEAKER_00]: then I thought a little more about what it actually happened here and the first thing is, I think it's a bridge too far to believe that it's an error because there simply has to be better quality control and NFL game.
• 4:58
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think about the inactive list.
• 5:00
  [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is
• 5:01
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to overstate the matter, but as an analyst, it is very important information to come out at 1130 before we want a clock aim, or in this case 650, before an 8020.
• 5:13
  [SPEAKER_00]: It's something I really wait for.
• 5:14
[SPEAKER_00]: I certainly wouldn't want it to be accurate.
• 5:16
[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't want to get this thing, even if I would be able to interpret correctly with a player positions were, and I certainly wouldn't want it for an opponent that I knew less about in terms of their
• 5:30
[SPEAKER_00]: So, critical piece of game information which should be reported properly in and are two and by the media.
• 5:40
[SPEAKER_00]: So, the media certainly re tweets this kind of stuff.
• 5:43
[SPEAKER_00]: Imagine if this tweet had been put up by the Falcons on their Twitter feed.
• 5:49
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, then it would have just been retweeted by, you know, every time they can clown across the country and it would have been, you know, spread like wildfire.
• 5:57
  [SPEAKER_00]: But,
• 5:58
[SPEAKER_00]: as it was, you know, this is an effort to say something in the stadium.
• 6:03
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's also very unlikely to be a joke played by one employee on another.
• 6:08
[SPEAKER_00]: And the reason is that the person who is responsible for inputting this information is going to tell someone where they got it from.
• 6:14
[SPEAKER_00]: And then the guy who did this is probably either going to get fired or reprimanded, but you know, it's a career setback at the very least to be caught, you know, involved in some stupid scheme like this.
• 6:25
  [SPEAKER_00]: So I don't think
• 6:27
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a person willing to risk their job and without the express written authority of the Atlanta Falcons who probably are directly behind this so once we know it's not a mistake or joke and we have to come to conclusion that the Falcons directly response over this I don't know if the PR team gave the go ahead to it I don't know if if someone in the front office
• 6:47
[SPEAKER_00]: uh, gave their, uh, uh, go ahead to it.
• 6:49
[SPEAKER_00]: But there's no doubt about it.
• 6:50
[SPEAKER_00]: This came from the Atlanta Falcons.
• 6:51
[SPEAKER_00]: They knew what they were doing.
• 6:53
[SPEAKER_00]: Once we know, it's not a mistake or joke, though, then the errors are are clearly a level of additional deception that had been added here.
• 7:02
[SPEAKER_00]: So it got three hundredths in position, correct.
• 7:04
[SPEAKER_00]: They got Elijah Sarat's position, correct.
• 7:06
[SPEAKER_00]: They have three other wrong positions on the group.
• 7:08
  [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm sorry.
• 7:09
[SPEAKER_00]: We must have gotten the positions on this stuff.
• 7:11
  [SPEAKER_00]: Look at this.
• 7:12
[SPEAKER_00]: And oh, we got a little more at running back.
• 7:13
  [SPEAKER_00]: That's terrible.
• 7:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Look, we'll fix that for the next game.
• 7:17
[SPEAKER_00]: It's that kind of thing, it's obviously an attempt to cover up the other issues.
• 7:23
[SPEAKER_00]: They either would have more wrong, I would say, or they'd have, you know, they wouldn't have some mix of wrong and right in the group, you know, it pretty way I could would think of it.
• 7:37
[SPEAKER_00]: This leads, you know, the lead and obviously on that top line that Lamar Jackson is this is running back and you know, this is a longstanding source spot since the draft of course Lamar very famously got up in his in his fancy suit on draft night and was asked, you know, what are they getting in in terms of a
• 7:57
[SPEAKER_00]: of a player and you know he's he's saying I'm gonna I'm a quarterback and you know not only that they're going to the Super Bowl kind of thing so we love that from Lamar on that day but you know certainly the greatest running quarterback that ever has but the also happens to be the best greatest passing quarterback that's ever played in this game.
• 8:15
[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's, you know, if I had to guess, I think the more probably did not see it, but I don't also think he'd be bothered in any way that would impact the game because he wasn't playing.
• 8:27
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he's inactive in the game and that maybe the Falcons staff somehow thought, well, it's okay because he's not playing in the game, so it's no big deal there.
• 8:37
[SPEAKER_00]: what were they hoping to achieve though that really comes out of it here is it was I think perhaps a petty distraction for the ravens will does that mean we should show pictures of any players wives that we have you know doing things with other men does that mean we should you know get the only fans page of of wives of players that that sort of things and show that or give links to it I mean there's just a it's just a a limit where you go I'm not saying that when
• 9:07
[SPEAKER_00]: If the Ravens, obviously, we're talking about on the sidelines and they're not thinking about the game so it may actually have been attempt to derive a competitive advantage.
• 9:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Could also have been just an attempt to quiet the Ravens fans who were there in numbers.
• 9:22
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that's the net impact or something like this.
• 9:24
[SPEAKER_00]: The Ravens fans obviously very loud, some of them saw this, and we're kind of pissed off about it.
• 9:29
[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm at a loss as to what they were really trying to accomplish with this little bit of chicanery here.
• 9:36
[SPEAKER_00]: It's unprofessional, it's certainly petty, and I don't think it's what the NFL should demand in terms of its member teams.
• 9:43
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not out here claiming that they should have draft picks, doc, or anything ridiculous like that.
• 9:48
[SPEAKER_00]: They're probably a small fine might be appropriate for this sort of thing.
• 9:52
[SPEAKER_00]: It's clearly a gamesmanship thing done with a scoreboard.
• 9:55
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what rules exist in the NFL that might preclude that, but is the sort of thing I think the NFL
• 10:04
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, not a big deal, we're by it and you know, in the last possible sense here, the Falcons rolled the Karmic dice in putting this on their scoreboard and they lost big time on this one.
• 10:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Stake guys on the roll here and the Ravens walk out of here laughing with the win.
• 10:23
  [SPEAKER_00]: All right, that's it.
• 10:24
[SPEAKER_00]: Good to do it for this episode.
• 10:25
