- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up. I'm not from Don Pajon and I'm on
- 0:02Speaker 1: Eating Wild Broke.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Yes and she done? People, fuck that up. Welcome to
- 0:09Speaker 2: another episode of Eating Wild Broke. I'm your host, Colleen Witt,
- 0:12Speaker 2: and today we have very special guest knocks from Don Pajeon.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Y'all in the building. This is her clothing line. She
- 0:22Speaker 2: has accessories boots that I absolutely love, and I'm going
- 0:26Speaker 2: to harass her because I need to be rocking these black,
- 0:29Speaker 2: black and the red. They had the red tongue. You
- 0:32Speaker 2: know which ones I'm talking about.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, the military joints with the red tongue.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I promise you guys, when you see me out with it,
- 0:39Speaker 2: I'm gonna take a picture and post it in the video.
- 0:42Speaker 2: But but yeah, Don's in the building. You are from
- 0:45Speaker 2: New York, so this is a very special episode for
- 0:49Speaker 2: me because I'm also from New York. Yeah, I didn't
- 0:52Speaker 2: know that. Yeah, that's what I wanted to call it,
- 0:54Speaker 2: Dan Pigeon.
- 0:55Speaker 1: But a lot of people do until they know. It's like,
- 0:58Speaker 1: it's like, if you don't know, you don't know, you're
- 1:01Speaker 1: gonna read it like damn pigeon. But when I tell
- 1:02Speaker 1: you don't you're like.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Oh shit, So why did you name it that instead
- 1:07Speaker 2: of damn pigeon?
- 1:09Speaker 1: It was damn pigeon.
- 1:10Speaker 2: It was right, It's so fresh though.
- 1:13Speaker 1: But then my man's knocked up my dorm room and
- 1:16Speaker 1: he said, yo, you know, you gotta call it Don Pajeon.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, that's fly, that's fly.
- 1:22Speaker 2: But I feel like, as a New Yorker, there's like
- 1:24Speaker 2: something truly special as damn Pigeon, but for the sake
- 1:28Speaker 2: of Don Pageon and respecting the name because it does
- 1:32Speaker 2: sound it does sound more luxurious luxurious when you say that,
- 1:36Speaker 2: but then you get like the Timberlain vibe when you
- 1:39Speaker 2: hear damn pigeon. But you know, maybe there could be
- 1:42Speaker 2: like a mixed like video where you do damn Pigeon
- 1:46Speaker 2: and down Pugeon and like you have two different fits.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And one is giving and one is giving. Damn pigeon.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Yes, would it would be cool? Please if you do that.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I just want to see it, or you know what,
- 1:59Speaker 2: maybe maybe I could work on my team creating it
- 2:02Speaker 2: and then like sending it to you. Should we do
- 2:03Speaker 2: the Damn Pigeon version versus the Don Pajon.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I got the outfits for real?
- 2:08Speaker 2: Hell yeah, yo, let's do it. Let's do it. So
- 2:11Speaker 2: what are you gonna have us eating today? On eating
- 2:13Speaker 2: while broke?
- 2:15Speaker 1: Today, I'm gonna be cooking some French toasts because I'm
- 2:18Speaker 1: not gonna lie. This is special for me because I
- 2:20Speaker 1: don't cook.
- 2:22Speaker 2: So it specially be special for me because you're cooking
- 2:25Speaker 2: for me.
- 2:25Speaker 1: That's a that's a that's a fact, and people, I
- 2:28Speaker 1: like pride myself on how I can't cook, so when
- 2:31Speaker 1: people watch me do this, they're gonna be like, there's
- 2:33Speaker 1: no fucking way not just cooking.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Wait, so you can't.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I can't.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I cannot myself on that though I like I pride
- 3:03Speaker 2: yourself on not being able to to.
- 3:05Speaker 1: There's some things that people do well and there's things
- 3:08Speaker 1: that people don't do well. I like to do what
- 3:10Speaker 1: I do well and what I don't just admit it,
- 3:12Speaker 1: own it and let other people handle what they do
- 3:14Speaker 1: well well.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I appreciate you coming on a cooking show to tell
- 3:18Speaker 2: your story and taking one for the team by cooking
- 3:21Speaker 2: us French toasts, so we whenever I jump in on
- 3:25Speaker 2: a meal, I tend to burn it. So I'm gonna
- 3:28Speaker 2: stay in my lane as much as possible to not
- 3:30Speaker 2: distract you, but I definitely want you to take me
- 3:33Speaker 2: back to what was going on in the era of
- 3:35Speaker 2: French toast.
- 3:37Speaker 1: My era of French toast, you know, growing up as
- 3:39Speaker 1: a kid, it's the first thing that I got put
- 3:42Speaker 1: on to how to cook. My Mom's like it's easy,
- 3:44Speaker 1: you know. And then when I got older, I'm at
- 3:48Speaker 1: a shorty house or whatever, can you cook? No, but
- 3:51Speaker 1: I got the French toast, you know, and then I be,
- 3:55Speaker 1: you know, in the crib by myself, need something to eat,
- 3:58Speaker 1: eggs and French toasts. A couple of new Pizza Hut wings.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Those are like my holy right there.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I remember when I got the email. The
- 4:07Speaker 2: initial email response was your meal was gonna be Pizza
- 4:10Speaker 2: Hut wings, and I was like, no, if we're shooting
- 4:13Speaker 2: in New York, she could do it. But in LA
- 4:16Speaker 2: because we had the studio and it's a cook top,
- 4:19Speaker 2: you had to cook. So I appreciate you not fighting
- 4:21Speaker 2: back like no, this is what I ate when I
- 4:23Speaker 2: was broke.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Man. Nah. I was nervous though, because I'm like, damn,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and then me and my manager, I'm like, oh, French toes,
- 4:29Speaker 1: French talk. It gives the French I could do that.
- 4:32Speaker 2: If you had to choose between French toast pancakes and
- 4:35Speaker 2: what's the third French toast pancakes and waffle and a waffle?
- 4:38Speaker 2: Which one would you choose?
- 4:39Speaker 1: Freunch toast all day?
- 4:41Speaker 2: Me too.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I will go French toast, one waffle, second pancakes.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Pancakes as I can't stand. I cannot stay in pancakes.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Believe it or not. I make it every day for
- 4:51Speaker 2: my daughter. That's how much I hate pancakes. I don't
- 4:55Speaker 2: know why I do that.
- 4:56Speaker 1: They're hard to make, and you gotta really be because
- 4:59Speaker 1: when you bust open in the middle, sometimes it's not
- 5:01Speaker 1: sitting how it's supposed to be sitting. It's not like, yeah,
- 5:04Speaker 1: some people's ship. It's still like dude, I don't know.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I feel like it's the easiest thing to make because
- 5:10Speaker 2: nowadays you could just buy the pancake mix, add the water,
- 5:13Speaker 2: create the consistency, put the butter in.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Done.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I literally every Sunday night, if you call me around
- 5:18Speaker 2: eight o'clock, what are you doing. I'm making a week's
- 5:20Speaker 2: worth of pancakes for my two year old.
- 5:22Speaker 1: That's what's up.
- 5:24Speaker 2: That's what's up every Sunday. But go ahead, and start
- 5:28Speaker 2: this dish. And uh, well, first, what are the ingredients
- 5:32Speaker 2: for your French toast? Because it looks very simple.
- 5:35Speaker 1: It's as simple as you could get. We got bread
- 5:37Speaker 1: over here, we got some cinnamon, two eggs, vanilla extract
- 5:43Speaker 1: or some you know what I'm saying. It's a milk,
- 5:45Speaker 1: that's it.
- 5:45Speaker 2: That's it in some butter. But all right, well, get
- 5:49Speaker 2: to whiskey in while I throw some questions and find
- 5:52Speaker 2: out how Don Pogon came about.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I have to turn this on first. I might need
- 5:58Speaker 1: some might need some tips, you know what I'm saying.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Okay, well, right now she has the stove. Bye, so
- 6:06Speaker 2: I feel like whatever is gonna happen, it's gonna burn.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Let's put it, okay, I'll have to help you. Yeah yeah,
- 6:13Speaker 2: put it? Well, not low, but like three or four.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I think we had a three and a half. That's good.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Up a little bit more?
- 6:18Speaker 1: Sorry actually four?
- 6:20Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, all right, so you got the milk. Okay,
- 6:26Speaker 2: I'm just watching you. I'm calling it out so our
- 6:29Speaker 2: listeners can hear. I mean, if this, if this comes
- 6:32Speaker 2: out terrible, I can't wait. One egg. Well, look, you're
- 6:37Speaker 2: cracking your eggs pretty good for someone that can't cook
- 6:42Speaker 2: and wait wait, no, no, no, no, you got a whisker. Yeah, guys,
- 6:46Speaker 2: Oh this is hilarious. She's really struggling in the kitchen. Okay,
- 6:50Speaker 2: so okay.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I was about to do the fork.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you got a whisker, and then you gotta do
- 6:56Speaker 2: the uh I think you have you have to add
- 6:59Speaker 2: on me. Well, I'm gonna watch. I'm gonna watch this happen.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I think I think I'm surprised myself.
- 7:06Speaker 2: By the way you added almond milk versus regular milk.
- 7:09Speaker 2: So let's see how this holds up. This almond milk
- 7:12Speaker 2: that's what they said in the email.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Oh that's what I like.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Okay, well let's see. Have you ever made friends shops
- 7:18Speaker 2: with almond milk?
- 7:18Speaker 1: Nope, I was gonna take dairy for the team.
- 7:20Speaker 2: But so, take me back to prior way before Don
- 7:30Speaker 2: Pujon even arrived on the scene, Like, take me back
- 7:34Speaker 2: to what what your home environment was like.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Hmm, Well, I grew up with two parents and I'm biracial.
- 7:41Speaker 1: My mom's white, my dad's black. I grew up in
- 7:44Speaker 1: upstate New York, so it's kind of by like Syracuse.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Syracuse, that's crazy. I'm from Brooklyn, and upstate, but by
- 7:51Speaker 2: Port Jervis and Middletown. Do you know that's where like
- 7:55Speaker 2: crack and heroin are just murdering everybody.
- 7:57Speaker 1: That's my city. I'm from Elmira. You know when people
- 8:00Speaker 1: get sent upstate and go like to jail, like Southport Box,
- 8:03Speaker 1: Elmira Penitentiary. So my town is known for prisons, like
- 8:08Speaker 1: super heavy on the prison.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Dang, do they ever have people break out of prison
- 8:12Speaker 2: and they end up in your backyard or something?
- 8:14Speaker 1: Now, we had a person break out of prison when
- 8:16Speaker 1: I was in high school. Oh, it was pretty dope.
- 8:21Speaker 2: You're like, that's the only thing a small town could
- 8:23Speaker 2: talk about.
- 8:25Speaker 1: High schools right next to the prison. So it was wild,
- 8:27Speaker 1: Like people were worried, but I was never really worried
- 8:29Speaker 1: about it. But as a kid, you know, regular kids
- 8:32Speaker 1: should riding the bike, getting in getting into trouble on
- 8:35Speaker 1: purpose type shit.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Okay, okay, So in the upstate where I'm from. Upstate
- 8:42Speaker 2: New York is pretty racist, is it? Where is it
- 8:44Speaker 2: racist where you're from?
- 8:45Speaker 1: You have to deal with that, Yeah, But something crazy
- 8:48Speaker 1: about my town. It's crazy story. We call it zebra town, right,
- 8:51Speaker 1: h because all of the inmates or whatever from the pen,
- 8:55Speaker 1: they get out and they have babies with white women.
- 8:58Speaker 1: So my town per capita as the most biracial. People, like,
- 9:02Speaker 1: get the freak out.
- 9:03Speaker 2: That's hilarious. I wish portan about it, because, uh, well,
- 9:08Speaker 2: I came out in the air. I always tell people
- 9:10Speaker 2: I was in the eighties where like me and mixed
- 9:12Speaker 2: was like rare. But you're you're younger than me. So,
- 9:17Speaker 2: but I guess you went to school with a bunch
- 9:19Speaker 2: of mulattos.
- 9:20Speaker 1: A bunch of mulatto's, and then we had whites and blacks,
- 9:23Speaker 1: and the whites, you know, they was a little bit racist.
- 9:26Speaker 1: But there was so many light skinned people, like a
- 9:28Speaker 1: lot of our moms is white, but they like hood white.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I guess you're trying to say, So there was a
- 9:33Speaker 1: little racism. I didn't really feel it though, because I
- 9:35Speaker 1: was around a whole bunch of light skin.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, that's interesting.
- 9:41Speaker 1: It's supers interesting.
- 9:43Speaker 2: So your parents stay married, they married right now? Oh
- 9:47Speaker 2: so you get to see what real love looks like,
- 9:49Speaker 2: real love and devotion. So tell us for all those
- 9:51Speaker 2: married people that have been married forever. Do your parents
- 9:53Speaker 2: look happy?
- 9:55Speaker 1: Oh, they're super happy. But it's like, uh, they so
- 9:58Speaker 1: happy when they fight all the time. Is funny because
- 10:01Speaker 1: they just say whatever. It's not disrespectful, but it's it's funny,
- 10:04Speaker 1: like it's so real.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Like like they like your mom will like, well, I
- 10:08Speaker 2: guess she won't curse your dad out, but should just
- 10:10Speaker 2: tell him how it is.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Tell him how it is. And my dad be like,
- 10:13Speaker 1: shut up, like you know, just be quiet.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Do you think that's the secrets of relationships? Just get
- 10:18Speaker 2: it off the chest, right off the top.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Yeah. I do a funny thing about my parents the
- 10:22Speaker 1: other day. Uh my dad's like, well, divorce me, and
- 10:26Speaker 1: my mom's like, I'll divorce you tomorrow. Just get the
- 10:28Speaker 1: fuck out of my room, you know.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, just chill.
- 10:33Speaker 1: They chilly, each other's best friends. They super chill.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I love that.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I love that. Okay, okay, so now I got the
- 10:40Speaker 1: batter mix.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Now you gotta just butter. Now it is fun fact.
- 10:44Speaker 2: I love butter. I will go through a brick of butter.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I would say per every three dishes, like literally, because
- 10:52Speaker 2: I literally basee the pan in butter.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Especially keep it a butt. I don't even I'm gonna
- 11:01Speaker 1: do it right here.
- 11:03Speaker 2: That's actually brilliant. I usually leave the rapper on and just.
- 11:08Speaker 1: That's brilliant too.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Yeah, but no, I like the way you do it.
- 11:11Speaker 2: I may steal it, but like I said, I go
- 11:12Speaker 2: through way too much butder I have to buy it
- 11:14Speaker 2: and bulk it cost costco. That's how unhealthy my habits are.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I don't even creak. So I'm like, do I eat
- 11:19Speaker 1: butter like that? Whoever's cooking my shit is using butter?
- 11:21Speaker 1: I'm assuming. Yeah, I might be way too much butter.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 11:24Speaker 2: No, that's good. You want it lathered in butter. Butter
- 11:27Speaker 2: is the secret sauce.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Okay? Is it?
- 11:29Speaker 2: It is? It is anytime you're making eggs.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I got but is that a shell in there?
- 11:35Speaker 2: How'd you get a shell in it?
- 11:36Speaker 1: In the butter?
- 11:37Speaker 2: Not?
- 11:37Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 11:38Speaker 1: It is suh, that's wild. Get that out of this.
- 11:43Speaker 2: I was gonna give you credit. I was gonna give
- 11:46Speaker 2: you credit. So you grow up in a multi racial home.
- 11:50Speaker 1: You have siblings, Yeah, I got a little I got
- 11:52Speaker 1: a little brother. We like best friends. Yeah, a year
- 11:54Speaker 1: younger than me. Could I start knock?
- 11:57Speaker 2: Yeah? Go ahead, man, I'm hungry.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Go ahead. The dude doing the things.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I want to see you do this. See if she
- 12:03Speaker 2: does it right. My thing is like, you got a
- 12:06Speaker 2: sat raped bread. No no, no, no, no, no, don't don't. Don't
- 12:10Speaker 2: follow my lead. Okay, I mean knowing to burn dishes
- 12:12Speaker 2: on this show.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Because when you do that, then the bread ain't breading
- 12:16Speaker 1: in the middle.
- 12:19Speaker 2: So you got you came from middle class or poor.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I came from middle class Almira, which is poor.
- 12:27Speaker 2: I would say that about anybody upstate. Anything outside of
- 12:29Speaker 2: the city is like, yeah, you're pretty much poor.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Yeah, just to be there, It's like, but yeah, I
- 12:35Speaker 1: grew up like, you know, middle class on Myra. I
- 12:38Speaker 1: guess you know, we got a little house's tiny, one
- 12:41Speaker 1: bathroom type shit.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, yep, that sounds about right.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Tiny. But none of my people's had bread, Like none
- 12:47Speaker 1: of my friends had bread, none of my grandparents, you don't.
- 12:51Speaker 1: It was normal.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I felt like in small towns they always have like
- 12:54Speaker 2: the they always have the fresh kicks, you know, like
- 12:57Speaker 2: the rich kid always had the fresh new sneakers. Or
- 13:01Speaker 2: it was all about the sneakers, like if you weren't
- 13:03Speaker 2: wearing like the name brand knewest sneaker. But that's how
- 13:07Speaker 2: we would tell if you had money, which looking back,
- 13:09Speaker 2: didn't make it any sense I don't have to.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Have money that because I always had some fresh sneakers.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Oh okay, so you was popular? Yeah yeah, yeah, you
- 13:16Speaker 2: was popular.
- 13:16Speaker 1: But I was always in the kicks, even like five
- 13:19Speaker 1: years old. My mom would be like, yo, you always
- 13:21Speaker 1: knew like the Jordans and shit, Like, I don't know
- 13:24Speaker 1: how you learned it, because my mom's not fashionable.
- 13:26Speaker 2: She's not like what about your pops.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Pops is older. He fashionable, but in an old man like.
- 13:31Speaker 2: An old school way, like the pimp play away or
- 13:34Speaker 2: play away like the Loafers, Like loafers, he got a
- 13:37Speaker 2: walk with a king Pin play away. Yeah okay, so
- 13:41Speaker 2: you were always into fashion, so you always knew you
- 13:44Speaker 2: were going to have a clothing brand.
- 13:46Speaker 1: No, I just always knew I was gonna be fly.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Okay, So take us out of the home environment and
- 13:52Speaker 2: tell me what's the next step towards don Pajon.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Well, I could fast forward all the way through high school.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I was just fly. Then when I got to college,
- 14:01Speaker 1: I started thrifting. I went to college at a few
- 14:04Speaker 1: different places. Boy, I started thrifting with Elford State. It's
- 14:07Speaker 1: like a technical school, little Juco near Buffalo.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Okay, And you say, thrifting. Are you doing like nasty
- 14:15Speaker 2: gal status where you were like shopping for closing and
- 14:19Speaker 2: selling it online for more.
- 14:21Speaker 1: No. I was going to the thrift store and finding
- 14:24Speaker 1: things like old army jackets or old varsity jackets, and
- 14:27Speaker 1: I was like, whatever embellishments they had on them, I'd
- 14:30Speaker 1: take them off and like paint on them or add
- 14:32Speaker 1: like my own patches and shit like that.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Okay, Okay.
- 14:35Speaker 1: So I found an embroidery lady, and I was looking
- 14:39Speaker 1: through the book, you know, just looking through the book,
- 14:41Speaker 1: and I saw the pigeon and I was like, oh,
- 14:42Speaker 1: this is fucking fresh. So I started putting the pigeon
- 14:45Speaker 1: on everything, man on everything, all types of shit.
- 14:50Speaker 2: But did you have the name yet?
- 14:52Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, we had. We had a dad pigeon and
- 14:54Speaker 1: that was just we got high, me and my friends,
- 14:56Speaker 1: and we had this idea of how to make a
- 14:58Speaker 1: store look like Central Park. We walk in, there's fucking
- 15:02Speaker 1: grass on the floor and the hangers are like pigeons
- 15:04Speaker 1: with the wings and the and the lights were like
- 15:06Speaker 1: the park lights and shit, that's cool. Yeah, and then
- 15:08Speaker 1: we're like, damn pigeon and it would be like so
- 15:10Speaker 1: dope to have a store like that, and then we
- 15:13Speaker 1: made hats with white paint on them, like we were
- 15:16Speaker 1: getting shitted on by pigeons and it's just that damn
- 15:18Speaker 1: pigeon that's hilarious. Yeah. So so, but now this is.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Something you would talk about amongst your friends. When did
- 15:25Speaker 2: it become When did you start to realize it started
- 15:28Speaker 2: to morph into a business.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Ooh. When I first moved out to California, I was
- 15:35Speaker 1: twenty one and I still had damn pigeon stuff, right,
- 15:39Speaker 1: But when I came out here, I started getting in
- 15:42Speaker 1: the culture shock, like everybody wasn't as fresh. So the
- 15:44Speaker 1: people i'm I'm like, damn, I want to go to
- 15:47Speaker 1: the club, but you look kind of wicked. I'm being real.
- 15:51Speaker 1: So I used to dress my friends up like this
- 15:53Speaker 1: is better, and they used to get compliments. They come
- 15:56Speaker 1: back to the crib and be like, yo, I got
- 15:57Speaker 1: stopped by like five people today, ten people today. I'm like,
- 16:00Speaker 1: were like stop, like they want to buy the sweater okay, okay.
- 16:04Speaker 1: So then I will started turning like I could sell
- 16:07Speaker 1: these joints. So then I made a website, got my
- 16:09Speaker 1: first order, which I was thankful for, God willing, God blessing,
- 16:13Speaker 1: and it just started rolling, so.
- 16:15Speaker 2: You okay, So what made you actually go and say
- 16:21Speaker 2: I'm gonna get this website? What was that triggering point?
- 16:24Speaker 1: The compliments that the homies were getting on the gear.
- 16:26Speaker 2: But they were giving you compliments based off styling.
- 16:29Speaker 1: They was giving me compliments. This motherfucker outside wanted to
- 16:33Speaker 1: buy the sweater, but.
- 16:34Speaker 2: It was sweaters that you were designing, or what the
- 16:37Speaker 2: swas that you were designing. Okay, so you were you
- 16:40Speaker 2: were putting them in Oh okay, so yeah, so then
- 16:45Speaker 2: you're like, oh, hell yeah I could make or maybe
- 16:48Speaker 2: the homie came back and was like here's the number
- 16:50Speaker 2: he wants to buy it, or is that what triggered it?
- 16:52Speaker 1: Homies came back with no sweater, sold it off their
- 16:55Speaker 1: back type shit.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Get the freak out? Did you ask how much? Was
- 16:59Speaker 2: it impressive?
- 17:00Speaker 1: At like sixty eighty? I was like kind of crazy?
- 17:04Speaker 2: Did they text you before they sold it?
- 17:06Speaker 1: Or nah? They just sold it?
- 17:07Speaker 2: Came back like like can you make another one?
- 17:10Speaker 1: Exactly because that's all I wore. So that's all I
- 17:12Speaker 1: was wearing my own shits. So people see me out
- 17:14Speaker 1: like what is that and just hats you know, what's
- 17:16Speaker 1: about branding?
- 17:17Speaker 2: Yeah, of course I'm just now learning it, hence hat.
- 17:21Speaker 2: But okay, so then you create this website. Now did
- 17:24Speaker 2: you know anything about marketing? How did you start marketing it?
- 17:29Speaker 1: Instagram was still young back then, so just a whole
- 17:34Speaker 1: bunch of pictures and linking with people and putting my
- 17:37Speaker 1: pride and ego to the side, like, yo, if I
- 17:39Speaker 1: get to you for free, whien you tag me or
- 17:41Speaker 1: wear it? Helped me out. Then I started promoting parties
- 17:44Speaker 1: in like the first fifty people free, get a dumpuge
- 17:47Speaker 1: on hat, get the freak out. Yeah, And then I knew,
- 17:51Speaker 1: how are you covering all the costs for all of this?
- 17:54Speaker 2: Were you side hustling? Yeah, let me tell you something
- 17:58Speaker 2: about this show. If you're entrepreneur and you didn't sign hustle.
- 18:01Speaker 2: I had a girl on here, got a dude, you
- 18:03Speaker 2: gotta do fake luxury prints and selling them out the
- 18:07Speaker 2: trunk of her card.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I was selling Kicks. I was selling anything that could sell.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Man.
- 18:11Speaker 1: I was selling Kicks and a whole bunch of shit,
- 18:12Speaker 1: but I was putting it back into the brand. And
- 18:15Speaker 1: I went downtown and I did a lot of footwork,
- 18:17Speaker 1: you know, So I was getting the best stuff for
- 18:19Speaker 1: the lowest price because I was like out there every
- 18:21Speaker 1: day building relationship. You know what I'm saying. Some people
- 18:24Speaker 1: will make the hats and let me pay them later later.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Wowship yeah, yeah, yeah, hell yeah. But that's what it's about.
- 18:34Speaker 1: You know. You got to get out there, put yourself
- 18:36Speaker 1: out there, because if you don't, then you're just always
- 18:39Speaker 1: gonna make up another excuses why I can't do it.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I don't got the money.
- 18:41Speaker 2: What are your parenting the whole time?
- 18:44Speaker 1: I mean they were supportive. I got the best parents show,
- 18:48Speaker 1: very supportive. When I first started at my mom was like,
- 18:50Speaker 1: I don't know if people go to wear Damn Pigeon
- 18:52Speaker 1: on the chest, but I'm like, it's not Damn pigeon, it's.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Don dompa on. I saw a video with I think
- 18:58Speaker 2: it was Tank wearing Don Pygeon shirt. It was red,
- 19:02Speaker 2: but it had a shininess to the material, and I
- 19:04Speaker 2: was like that fucking sure.
- 19:07Speaker 1: It was like leather. That wasn't one of my designs
- 19:09Speaker 1: where I really killed them when I put the.
- 19:11Speaker 2: But it was it. But yeah, yeah, it was a leather.
- 19:15Speaker 2: It was like a red. It was like a shinier material.
- 19:18Speaker 2: I said, damn, I don't even know how you did that.
- 19:21Speaker 2: But I was thoroughly like, that's a nice ass shirt.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Yeah. That design was inspired by like Egyptian pharaohs, you
- 19:28Speaker 1: know how they used to have all those like gold chains.
- 19:30Speaker 1: And I just put a piece of fabric that overlaid
- 19:33Speaker 1: right there.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Now, did you when that piece? I didn't see on
- 19:38Speaker 2: your website.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Though it's old, it's super it's super old.
- 19:41Speaker 2: But it's super nice.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:42Speaker 2: And what happens You just retire it and that's it.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Yeah, they gotta go. They gotta they gotta get hung
- 19:47Speaker 1: with the jerseys and the rafters. You know what I'm saying.
- 19:50Speaker 1: You always gotta be new and come fresh. Yeah.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Man, So have you ever had anyone, like say myself,
- 19:55Speaker 2: that's like, Yo, this one shirt, where can I get it?
- 19:58Speaker 2: And you're like, nah, it sold out?
- 20:00Speaker 1: Yeah? Hell yeah. I feel like that's how you build
- 20:05Speaker 1: hype around your brand, you know what I'm.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Saying, By having like limited editions, and of.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Course, if everybody could get it anytime they want it,
- 20:11Speaker 1: there's no mystique around it. Why should I come back?
- 20:14Speaker 1: Why should I spend right now? Why should I Why
- 20:16Speaker 1: should this be an impulsive buy? If I know I
- 20:18Speaker 1: can get it all the time.
- 20:20Speaker 2: So that one shirt he has there may only have
- 20:23Speaker 2: been like a hundred of that one.
- 20:25Speaker 1: That one, the one that tank had probably like twenty
- 20:29Speaker 1: get the freak out. Yeah, probably like twenty.
- 20:32Speaker 2: If y'all don't know that's y'all can probably look up
- 20:35Speaker 2: that shirt online. That shirt was Hella Fresh. I think
- 20:37Speaker 2: we should Pastor knocks every day until she brings it back.
- 20:42Speaker 1: I might, because you know, fashion comes back around.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Yeah, really did it? I don't think that shirt would
- 20:48Speaker 2: ever go out.
- 20:49Speaker 1: It is a classic now now you gotta be thinking
- 20:51Speaker 1: about it. Classic.
- 20:53Speaker 2: It would have looked great with the red and black
- 20:55Speaker 2: sneak the boots.
- 20:57Speaker 1: That was because it's got the leather.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Yeah tell me, I see you let me know if
- 21:00Speaker 2: you need a back seat. I'm definitely not the person
- 21:03Speaker 2: that's style. I literally have to pay people to style me.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Like that's how terrible I am addressing.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Would do you like? Do you like fashion?
- 21:11Speaker 2: I can appreciate it, but like if like, if I
- 21:14Speaker 2: need something done, I need someone to dress me, like
- 21:17Speaker 2: when I do. Like if you look at all the
- 21:19Speaker 2: eating Wall Broke pictures, I had a stylist do it.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Oh and he did a great job. He nailed my style,
- 21:24Speaker 2: but I can't do it. I don't even know how
- 21:26Speaker 2: to accessorize. I'm terrible.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Okay, well, but I can't spot great shoes, great shoes,
- 21:32Speaker 4: great sneakers all day, okay, like the Dome Pigeon, boots gone, the.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Site gone, don pygeon dot com, damnpigeon dot n YC,
- 21:42Speaker 2: damnpigeon dot NYC. And then if you go in the
- 21:44Speaker 2: boots section you will see what I'm talking about.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Listeners and I'm still flipping these, flipping these toes.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Yeah, you're taking forever to make some French tones. Seen
- 21:54Speaker 2: somebody take so long, but it looks good. And then,
- 21:56Speaker 2: just so you know, guys, she was flattening the French toasta.
- 21:59Speaker 2: I mean that French tostal like a thin. You're gonna
- 22:04Speaker 2: stop her after two just to have a get out
- 22:07Speaker 2: the kitchen and never go back. We ain't got no
- 22:10Speaker 2: syrup though, you know what Jared's gonna call cut when
- 22:13Speaker 2: you sit down, and we're gonna run out and get
- 22:15Speaker 2: syrup in a new fork and hook you up.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I haven't cooked this a mad long. It's very hot.
- 22:20Speaker 2: It smells like French dostal. Are you proud of yourself?
- 22:23Speaker 1: I'm proud of the peace.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Really that thin as thin as that's how I like it,
- 22:28Speaker 2: though it's too I want to I want to try
- 22:30Speaker 2: it like that. No, I'm gonna keep it say less,
- 22:33Speaker 2: say less. I got you less less, Okay? So what
- 22:36Speaker 2: made you end up moving to Cali?
- 22:38Speaker 1: I was getting in trouble, Like what kind of trouble
- 22:41Speaker 1: Like trouble trouble? Bill?
- 22:44Speaker 2: Do tell inspire all the all the gangsters.
- 22:47Speaker 1: I was broke, broke, but broke broke, broke, broke, Okay.
- 22:51Speaker 1: I'm talking about at home making subs at the grocery store.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Make you know how you got cigarettes, but you goties
- 23:01Speaker 1: like rolling rollies, not even enough to buy a pack.
- 23:03Speaker 1: I was like rolling rollies, waiting for a nigga to
- 23:06Speaker 1: drop his shit so I could get the tibet you
- 23:07Speaker 1: know what I mean?
- 23:08Speaker 2: No way, okay, bros broke? Oh, I like this, broke, broke, broke, broke, okay.
- 23:12Speaker 1: And then I gotta broke sure from the Art Institute
- 23:16Speaker 1: of Hollywood, and I was like, damn, that sounds pretty dope.
- 23:19Speaker 1: But my GPA was like a two point three, and
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'm thinking to myself, I'm gonna just be a failure.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Drinking still reserves and four locos drink away still reserves
- 23:28Speaker 1: and four locos like the worst shit of your life? Okay, okay,
- 23:32Speaker 1: you know the two dollars Holla special at the little
- 23:37Speaker 1: bodega shit. Okay. So going down the bad path and
- 23:41Speaker 1: just got into just mad trouble. You know. My mom
- 23:44Speaker 1: used to tell me you either gonna be like in
- 23:45Speaker 1: jail or really get caught up doing some bad shit
- 23:48Speaker 1: get hurt out here. So I got to bro sure.
- 23:51Speaker 1: My mom called then had an interview. There was like, yeah,
- 23:54Speaker 1: you could come out here. Five days you got accepted,
- 23:56Speaker 1: and I was in shock, like damn, cause I don't
- 23:58Speaker 1: know nobody in Campa.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Mom called, she was trying to save you too.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Yeah, she was trying to save me.
- 24:04Speaker 2: She was like get out.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Yeah, she's the best. So she called.
- 24:07Speaker 2: The school sent me an appointment.
- 24:08Speaker 1: So when I got to talk to them about my art,
- 24:11Speaker 1: about my clothing line, they was like, yeah, come down.
- 24:13Speaker 1: So five days I went from working in the grocery
- 24:15Speaker 1: store making suffs. Five days later, I.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Wow, on your own, on my own, when you moved
- 24:35Speaker 2: out here with like how much cash to survive?
- 24:38Speaker 1: I sold my car. I had three thousand dollars and
- 24:41Speaker 1: my mom she's a g She was giving me like
- 24:43Speaker 1: sixty dollars a week. You know what I'm saying.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Sixty dollars a week ain't ain't allowed for Cali. But
- 24:48Speaker 2: I could see the appreciation in it.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I appreciated it, but it wasn't it was going in
- 24:52Speaker 1: the day. Yeah, you know what I'm saying. I appreciated
- 24:55Speaker 1: it though, because I didn't have nothing. You know.
- 24:57Speaker 2: So what happened at the Art Institute.
- 25:01Speaker 1: I met a couple of friends. The best thing that
- 25:03Speaker 1: happened at the art Institute is I met a couple friends.
- 25:05Speaker 1: They ended up, you know, kicking me out because I
- 25:10Speaker 1: had alcohol bottles on my mantle. But I was over
- 25:14Speaker 1: twenty one, so I just feel like that was an excuse. Yeah,
- 25:17Speaker 1: but then I really got out on my own. Yeah.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Do you think it was a good looking back? Do
- 25:21Speaker 2: you think it was great that it happened?
- 25:23Speaker 1: Heck? Yeah, that really motivated me to be like, Okay,
- 25:27Speaker 1: I wasn't doing anything at home. I come out here.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I feel like they don't want me to really grow
- 25:33Speaker 1: being in this school setting. And I played basketball and
- 25:36Speaker 1: I was in school all my life, so I was like, okay,
- 25:38Speaker 1: I'm done. Yeah with the scholastic, you know, athletic.
- 25:42Speaker 2: But you didn't go home. Nah.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Nah. I got a one bedroom and a bike from
- 25:47Speaker 1: like Walmart, and I started getting on my hustle.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Man, what were you doing?
- 25:51Speaker 1: Whatever I could, selling the kicks, making T shirts. I
- 25:56Speaker 1: got with a shorty that got kicked out too. She
- 25:57Speaker 1: knew how to sew. I was like, YO, could live
- 26:00Speaker 1: with me, just make just make the clothes, make my
- 26:03Speaker 1: ideas come to life. Because I had mad ideas. I
- 26:06Speaker 1: just didn't have the functionality to be able to sew
- 26:09Speaker 1: back then. I can sew now, but back then I
- 26:11Speaker 1: ain't know how she did so, giving her the infrastructure
- 26:14Speaker 1: of safety and somewhere to stay. She was giving me
- 26:18Speaker 1: work and making my designs.
- 26:20Speaker 2: But now you were in a relationship with her too.
- 26:22Speaker 1: No, it was homie. It was the Homies girl.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Okay, okay, okay, cool.
- 26:27Speaker 1: It was the Homies girl. Boom, I'm done take the kitchen.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Thank god she passed that. Okay, guys, we're gonna throw
- 26:35Speaker 2: the commercials and guess some syrup. Look she throwing that towel.
- 26:38Speaker 2: I don't think you're ever gonna see her in the
- 26:40Speaker 2: kitchen ever again?
- 26:42Speaker 1: Or not?
- 26:43Speaker 2: All right, you're throwing to the commercials. So Knox has
- 26:47Speaker 2: made our flat French toast. Hey, and uh it looks
- 26:54Speaker 2: it smells real French toasty. This will probably be her
- 27:00Speaker 2: last meal that she ever cooks.
- 27:02Speaker 1: It's gonna be the last.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Really, what if another podcast is like, you gotta cook,
- 27:06Speaker 2: You're gonna be like, no, I only cook for eating
- 27:08Speaker 2: while broke.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a fact. Okay, that's a fact. I'm loyal
- 27:11Speaker 1: like that.
- 27:12Speaker 2: I like that. I'm loyal too. I feel like, damn
- 27:15Speaker 2: pigeon is gonna be mine when you see me out. Guys,
- 27:19Speaker 2: once I get that red shirt, you're gonna be You're
- 27:21Speaker 2: gonna be dripped once she gets that red shirt back.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Definitely do the red shirt.
- 27:25Speaker 2: The red shirt is fresh.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely the red shirt my sleep, Yeah, I definitely
- 27:29Speaker 1: do the red shirt.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Okay, okay, all right, let's do a test of whether
- 27:34Speaker 2: Knox can cook or whether she is a fraudulent cook.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I'm a fraudulent cook.
- 27:41Speaker 2: In the back praying that she would flip the French
- 27:44Speaker 2: toast by the way.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Good money, really, let's see is good money man?
- 27:51Speaker 2: You know what, Be honest, it's really hard to mess
- 27:55Speaker 2: up French toast. But for someone that does and cook.
- 28:00Speaker 2: You did not mess this up. It takes the delicious.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Don't you wish you would have made all four?
- 28:05Speaker 1: Hunh, that's the fact. But you see the timing life's
- 28:08Speaker 1: about timing.
- 28:10Speaker 2: The middle is kind of soft.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Oh my bad.
- 28:14Speaker 2: I actually like it. I actually like it. But I'm
- 28:18Speaker 2: trying to hate on you. But it's really hard to
- 28:21Speaker 2: hate because this actually came out pretty good.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Okay, so I'll take that.
- 28:26Speaker 2: I'm trying to hate on her because you can't cook,
- 28:28Speaker 2: but I'm probably gonna your whole damn freend schuse right.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm about to eat this slice because you know what,
- 28:32Speaker 1: I was hungry anyway. First of all, you.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Should have made all four. But if it didn't take
- 28:36Speaker 2: you nineteen years to finish this and what it told
- 28:40Speaker 2: you to make more, but you would have been cooking
- 28:42Speaker 2: the whole interview.
- 28:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna come back and tra your places with you
- 28:44Speaker 1: so you could cook. Let me cook for you, okay,
- 28:48Speaker 1: and see where your bars.
- 28:49Speaker 2: You'll be like Colleen, we need to add you to
- 28:51Speaker 2: the shorty list, and I'll be like, you know, should
- 28:54Speaker 2: over those references, all right, So take me back once
- 29:02Speaker 2: you're done biting. I'm gonna take a step.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Boom, I'm done. I killed that.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Okay. So you and this shorty are making clothes in
- 29:12Speaker 2: your house and you're flipping them. That's how you're surviving.
- 29:15Speaker 1: La.
- 29:16Speaker 2: So not once did you end up getting a real
- 29:18Speaker 2: job from getting kicked out of the art institute. No,
- 29:23Speaker 2: do you know how amazing of a feat that is?
- 29:27Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 29:27Speaker 2: Do you ever think back, like, holy cow, you want.
- 29:31Speaker 1: To know the truth. I really never wanted a job,
- 29:35Speaker 1: so I don't think about it. It's like I feel
- 29:38Speaker 1: like if I was working a to the odd job
- 29:40Speaker 1: before it felt like a crazier feet But now that
- 29:44Speaker 1: you put it into perspective, it kind of is. Because
- 29:46Speaker 1: a lot of people got to just do whatever they
- 29:47Speaker 1: got to do out here.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Yeah, when I would start a company, even the people
- 29:52Speaker 2: I mental, I always say, try to get unemployment. I
- 29:55Speaker 2: mean like, try to get fired because then that will
- 29:57Speaker 2: at least cover well. Back then unemployment could it was
- 30:00Speaker 2: like sixteen hundred I think it's your max around two K.
- 30:03Speaker 2: You could pay your rent and as long as you
- 30:06Speaker 2: made your rent, then you could keep your side hustle
- 30:08Speaker 2: going as long as so that unemployment so for you
- 30:12Speaker 2: to be able to do that without unemployment or some
- 30:14Speaker 2: kind of assistance. I think that's incredible because I am
- 30:19Speaker 2: forever that person that's like, try to.
- 30:21Speaker 4: Get fired before you start your company, like get fired,
- 30:26Speaker 4: don't quit, get fired.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Yeah, but I do think that's cool because that is
- 30:31Speaker 2: a big feat, especially for California when I and also
- 30:35Speaker 2: to have like a one bedroom apartment. When I was
- 30:38Speaker 2: starting all my companies, I was always renting like a
- 30:41Speaker 2: room that was the size of like you could touch
- 30:43Speaker 2: all the walls and it was never ac I had
- 30:46Speaker 2: like twenty roommates. But you didn't do that. You literally
- 30:50Speaker 2: went from art institute to hustle. Hustle hustle. Now did
- 30:53Speaker 2: you start making quotas like I better make two K
- 30:55Speaker 2: this month to survive or were you behind on bills?
- 31:00Speaker 1: Really? Seck, I've never really set quotas because my type
- 31:05Speaker 1: of hustle is I've always been a hustler. So it's
- 31:09Speaker 1: not even like I'm gonna set I'll make two K today,
- 31:11Speaker 1: make three K to day or one K to day
- 31:13Speaker 1: or nothing today. I just let I just let the
- 31:15Speaker 1: days roll, lin. But I never stopped working, like from
- 31:18Speaker 1: six to ten.
- 31:19Speaker 2: For someone that never wanted a job, it sounds like
- 31:21Speaker 2: to me. It's like, the only jobs you want to
- 31:24Speaker 2: work are the jobs you're passionate about.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's what And back then I was super
- 31:29Speaker 1: passionate about. It's really, really, really a powerful thing. When
- 31:33Speaker 1: you take an idea and you bring it to the
- 31:35Speaker 1: forefront and then you have a tangible product that you
- 31:37Speaker 1: could sell people. It's like, I'm not going to pick
- 31:40Speaker 1: this up from somewhere. We making it ourselves and then
- 31:43Speaker 1: we we like feeding the streets with it. It was
- 31:45Speaker 1: just empowering. So it was like something I've never done before.
- 31:48Speaker 1: So once it was like a drug. Once I got
- 31:50Speaker 1: a hit of that, I'm like, every day be making
- 31:52Speaker 1: shit and I'm going to get fabric and I'm coming
- 31:55Speaker 1: back and I'm cutting sleeves. At one time, had the
- 31:57Speaker 1: homies in the crib cutting sleeves, just cutting like three
- 32:00Speaker 1: thousand T shirts at the crib.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Wow. So what when your first order came in on
- 32:05Speaker 2: the website? Who was the first person you called? Woo
- 32:14Speaker 2: or screenshot it at my bro?
- 32:16Speaker 1: My brother? We got to order, Yeah, my bro And
- 32:21Speaker 1: it was a popular basketball player at the time, female
- 32:23Speaker 1: basketball player. So when she got it, she was hype
- 32:27Speaker 1: about it because I'm gonna be the only one with this.
- 32:29Speaker 1: But then a couple of weeks later, she was like,
- 32:31Speaker 1: my sleeve fell off. So I was like, oh shit,
- 32:36Speaker 1: quality control before I even try to go and sell
- 32:41Speaker 1: a product. And then I had to like revisit on
- 32:43Speaker 1: how we were making it and if the machinery was good.
- 32:45Speaker 1: So I took a couple bumps and bruises trying to
- 32:47Speaker 1: just learn how to make sure it air tight? You
- 32:49Speaker 1: feel me? So?
- 32:51Speaker 2: How did you catch when that the So she was
- 32:53Speaker 2: the first person that ordered, first person. It was like
- 32:56Speaker 2: a famous woman, basketball star.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Yeah she was. It's like collegiate famous.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Yeah, how did she catch wind of your site? Did
- 33:05Speaker 2: you ever find out Instagram? Instagram? So she orders it?
- 33:08Speaker 2: Then how do you find out that the sleeve falls off?
- 33:11Speaker 1: She just texted me. Yeah, she texted me like, Yo,
- 33:14Speaker 1: I'm not even tripping, but the sleeve fell off. I'm like,
- 33:17Speaker 1: oh shit, bro. And then I went back to the
- 33:20Speaker 1: shorty who was helping me make the shit. I'm like, yo,
- 33:22Speaker 1: check it out. Sleeves are falling off. What's going on?
- 33:26Speaker 2: How do we make this better?
- 33:27Speaker 1: Yeah? She's just like, well I need this so that
- 33:30Speaker 1: doesn't happen. And then we kind of got I'm like,
- 33:32Speaker 1: why didn't you tell me that before? Yeah, of course,
- 33:34Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So then we got the machinery,
- 33:36Speaker 1: and you know, every time I could level up as
- 33:39Speaker 1: far as machinery was concerned, I took the time to
- 33:42Speaker 1: do so because I felt like it was important. So
- 33:45Speaker 1: every time I got bred, got something to make the
- 33:48Speaker 1: quality a little better, got tags to make the packaging
- 33:50Speaker 1: a little better, and just kept and then.
- 33:52Speaker 2: The also thing I think you learned too. It sounds
- 33:55Speaker 2: like I remember my first company, I had a high
- 33:59Speaker 2: school magazine, Nick Cannon, and one of my employees had
- 34:03Speaker 2: came to me and said, you should make the magazine smaller,
- 34:06Speaker 2: and I was like, at the time, I just was
- 34:08Speaker 2: so young. I didn't ask the manufacturers of like different sizes,
- 34:12Speaker 2: but I was like, oh, that's silly, and they're like, no,
- 34:13Speaker 2: it's easy for the kids to put in book bags.
- 34:15Speaker 2: What I learned is that you really got to pay
- 34:17Speaker 2: attention to your team because they're also the eyes and
- 34:20Speaker 2: the ears of the streets. And I think even for
- 34:22Speaker 2: her to kind of she I'm sure she didn't withhold
- 34:26Speaker 2: it on purpose, but she just assumed maybe the money
- 34:29Speaker 2: wasn't there to cover this one minor tweak for the
- 34:31Speaker 2: sleep to fall off?
- 34:32Speaker 1: Right?
- 34:33Speaker 2: Did you learn that? You think from that?
- 34:35Speaker 1: I think she withheld it on purpose?
- 34:37Speaker 2: Really, yeah, I do o the tea on this one.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I think she with held it on purpose because you know,
- 34:44Speaker 1: we was young. You want to really go out and
- 34:48Speaker 1: do what the boys was doing, like me and the
- 34:50Speaker 1: homiesuits going out, you know, making donfus on a thing.
- 34:54Speaker 1: He was going to the club. He was outside selling
- 34:56Speaker 1: it while she's inside making it. Yeah, So I felt
- 34:59Speaker 1: like her mindset was just like, let me cut corners
- 35:02Speaker 1: the easiest way, so I don't got to be in
- 35:03Speaker 1: here all day.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Oh okay, okay, I'm which is what I Yeah, shout
- 35:08Speaker 2: out to her.
- 35:09Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, God, do what you gotta do.
- 35:10Speaker 1: But we ended up separate part ways after that because
- 35:14Speaker 1: like that, Yeah, yeah, of course, like you always want
- 35:16Speaker 1: to cut corners when I'm trying. Like, if you rock
- 35:19Speaker 1: with me, we could take this shit somewhere. But if
- 35:21Speaker 1: you always want to cut corners, you're not the type
- 35:23Speaker 1: of person I could work with.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think it's important that everyone on the
- 35:27Speaker 2: team is in it for more than money. Yeah, that
- 35:30Speaker 2: to me is always like, the second I find out
- 35:32Speaker 2: some of my team's in it for money, I'm like,
- 35:34Speaker 2: first of all, I don't pay enough money. You never
- 35:37Speaker 2: gonna be happy.
- 35:38Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 35:39Speaker 2: So I become a millionaire, you ain't gonna be happy.
- 35:41Speaker 2: So you probably shouldn't be on my team. But in
- 35:44Speaker 2: the meantime, for everyone on our team, it's like you
- 35:47Speaker 2: have to care about the project. Like everyone on your
- 35:50Speaker 2: team loves Don Pajan, right, yeah, so you feel like
- 35:53Speaker 2: they're your rider dyers or oh yeah.
- 35:55Speaker 1: And at the time, I had a big core group
- 35:59Speaker 1: friends Homies that was just rocking it and looking good
- 36:02Speaker 1: in it, and we're always together, and it's just it
- 36:04Speaker 1: was like a clan, you know what I'm saying. We
- 36:08Speaker 1: always had it on. So it made a statement when
- 36:11Speaker 1: we would go somewhere or be seen somewhere, like, oh,
- 36:13Speaker 1: don't put you on on them.
- 36:15Speaker 2: So sometimes I go to the post office and I'll
- 36:17Speaker 2: see someone walk in with like a million boxes. I'm like, oh,
- 36:20Speaker 2: this motherfuckers. Oh I wish I had this guy's jobs
- 36:24Speaker 2: going to the post office mailing whatever he's mailing. Is
- 36:27Speaker 2: that what your life is like? Yeah?
- 36:30Speaker 1: For a long time, you know it was a lot,
- 36:33Speaker 1: a lot of packages, a lot of like going not
- 36:35Speaker 1: even to the post office. We go to the hub,
- 36:37Speaker 1: the hub. Yeah, we pull into like the back of
- 36:39Speaker 1: the post office. When you have a lot of mail,
- 36:41Speaker 1: you just go to the hub. And then do you
- 36:43Speaker 1: hear that she just dropped that.
- 36:44Speaker 2: I'm I'm bothering.
- 36:47Speaker 1: I go to the back of the post office.
- 36:48Speaker 2: I don't wait in line, I dup a whole truck
- 36:50Speaker 2: in the back of.
- 36:51Speaker 1: The post office, drop a whole bend in there. And
- 36:53Speaker 1: you don't even they don't scan the gas.
- 36:56Speaker 2: And then how do they bail you?
- 36:57Speaker 1: I pay if I was hand beforehand, you know, just
- 37:01Speaker 1: do the label. Wow, you get the orders.
- 37:05Speaker 2: That's crazy. So when you look back from that first
- 37:08Speaker 2: order to like where you're at now, what is some
- 37:10Speaker 2: of the stuff that you're like most impressed about.
- 37:15Speaker 1: From the growth? H I'm super impressed when I see
- 37:20Speaker 1: my shit in like a thrift store.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Really.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like a full circle moment for me. Why
- 37:26Speaker 1: because I just know that this has been on so
- 37:29Speaker 1: somebody for so long they decided to not throw it
- 37:32Speaker 1: out but donate it, and now it's thrifted for like
- 37:35Speaker 1: eight ninety nine and somebody else can take it and
- 37:37Speaker 1: give it a new life, and then give it a
- 37:39Speaker 1: new life and give it. I love that perspective and
- 37:41Speaker 1: that's how I started. I think that shit is dope.
- 37:43Speaker 1: I've been in the thrift store sometimes. Oh shit, that's
- 37:46Speaker 1: my shirt.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Do you ever buy it?
- 37:47Speaker 1: Nah?
- 37:48Speaker 2: Now I'm gonna want to go thrifting to see if
- 37:49Speaker 2: I can get through.
- 37:51Speaker 1: You. Right.
- 37:52Speaker 2: You know what, when I was a kid, we were poored.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Our parents would take us to the Salvation Army, and
- 37:56Speaker 2: of course it was very embarrassing. So like l A,
- 38:00Speaker 2: I feel like thrifting is like a cool thing. And
- 38:02Speaker 2: I remember one of my axes was like, yeah, you know,
- 38:05Speaker 2: let's go to you know, one of those exchange stores.
- 38:08Speaker 2: I'm like, hell no, that's what poor people do. Why
- 38:10Speaker 2: would I buy used clothes?
- 38:11Speaker 1: And yeah, like a Buffalo exchange.
- 38:13Speaker 2: I'm like, heck no, you won't catch me. It's only
- 38:15Speaker 2: new for me.
- 38:16Speaker 1: There's gems in there, though, shit in there. There's some
- 38:20Speaker 1: gems in there that you could remix. And my skill
- 38:23Speaker 1: is always dope because I could see something in two
- 38:25Speaker 1: X and making my size in two what two X
- 38:28Speaker 1: like a two x L big ass. Let's say I
- 38:31Speaker 1: see a big ass av Rex coat and I'd be like,
- 38:34Speaker 1: that's just dope. But the zipper's broken and the lining's busted.
- 38:37Speaker 1: I'll buy that shit for like twenty dollars. Go give
- 38:39Speaker 1: it a new lining, give it a new zipper.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Wow, you know, I mean damn. So I would love
- 38:44Speaker 2: to see your closet. We should have did a home interview.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Oh, the closet is crazy.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Really, do you have a lot of closet space or
- 38:51Speaker 2: is it like you have those racks like the celebrities do.
- 38:54Speaker 1: I have a lot of closet space, but then I
- 38:56Speaker 1: got like tons of racks, just racks, and it's.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Not the rack like, oh, well, racks, racks.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Racks, but it's not even like all my stuff. It's
- 39:04Speaker 1: like archive pieces I've made or things I just want
- 39:06Speaker 1: to hang on to a lot of stylists come to
- 39:08Speaker 1: my crib and pull things.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Really, So, what are some of the celebs that you
- 39:12Speaker 2: were like the most? Like, holy shit, I can't believe
- 39:16Speaker 2: they're wearing my stuff.
- 39:22Speaker 1: I know I'm flying. I make fly shit, So that's
- 39:25Speaker 1: like the goal for people to be in it. But
- 39:28Speaker 1: things that made me happy, like j Cole made me
- 39:29Speaker 1: happy when he was in it. Chris dip Lo Davies
- 39:34Speaker 1: people like that. But the real people, know bullshit that
- 39:37Speaker 1: make me the happiest are the people I've met and
- 39:39Speaker 1: my true supporters that buy for me all the time.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Shout out to y'all. Y'all know who you are all
- 39:43Speaker 1: the way around the world. The average Joe. I'm the
- 39:45Speaker 1: average Joe, So it's made by the average Joe for
- 39:48Speaker 1: the average Joe. I don't follow like style trends. So
- 39:50Speaker 1: I like when a regular person buys my shit and
- 39:53Speaker 1: I see him at like the mall, that hits harder
- 39:57Speaker 1: than like.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Do you ever say anything to them?
- 39:59Speaker 1: That probably say something to me, or I have a
- 40:01Speaker 1: lot of people who know me, so like a homie
- 40:06Speaker 1: will be out in another homies like, oh you know,
- 40:09Speaker 1: I feel like gang shit. Yea, you know what I'm saying.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Like it's a small group of people who know what's
- 40:15Speaker 1: up now?
- 40:16Speaker 2: Is yours is the only place for customers to get
- 40:20Speaker 2: your product? Is it only through the website or is
- 40:22Speaker 2: there like brick and border.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Nah, it's through the website. It's just the most cost
- 40:27Speaker 1: efficient way cut out the middleman bullshit, Like, have you.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Thought about getting into like major retail with it? Or
- 40:34Speaker 2: do you want to be like more boutique.
- 40:37Speaker 1: We've done boutiques, We've done major retail and stuff like that.
- 40:40Speaker 1: But it's a whole bunch of you know, things that
- 40:42Speaker 1: go on behind those scenes, and they like to drop
- 40:45Speaker 1: the price and you know, hit you with a net
- 40:47Speaker 1: sixty and get paid sixty days later and shit like that.
- 40:50Speaker 1: So and it kind of can water down and diminish
- 40:54Speaker 1: my brand. Yeah. Yeah, And I'm not too money hungry
- 40:56Speaker 1: where it's like I want this shit to be everywhere.
- 40:59Speaker 1: I'd rather go deep than why. I'd rather get with
- 41:04Speaker 1: my core fan base and dig deep with them than
- 41:06Speaker 1: try to cast the net and get everybody.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Okay, but what if the check was like devilish tempting.
- 41:13Speaker 2: They were like, hey, Tarot calls and he just wants
- 41:16Speaker 2: you to do this line for like a million dollars
- 41:19Speaker 2: worth of whatever in Target. I'm just saying like non regular, Yeah,
- 41:25Speaker 2: I know it's Dawn Pusan. I'm not saying like, maybe
- 41:27Speaker 2: they came at you for a tear, would you not be?
- 41:30Speaker 1: I would negotiate because I'm not married. I'm not married
- 41:33Speaker 1: to any any of my art, and you will any
- 41:36Speaker 1: of my brands. I'm not married to them like they don't.
- 41:39Speaker 1: They don't outweigh my logic. You know what I'm saying.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Because I can do If I did it once, I
- 41:43Speaker 1: can do it again. I do it all the time.
- 41:45Speaker 1: I do it with other people's brands. I've I've have
- 41:48Speaker 1: helped other people make brands that are bigger than mine.
- 41:50Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. So I'm not married to anything.
- 41:52Speaker 1: If a deal makes sense, I'm gonna take it. But
- 41:54Speaker 1: it's gotta make sense. Target makes sense.
- 41:56Speaker 2: Yeah. So have you had to get like business loans
- 41:59Speaker 2: or how did you survive the pandemic and all of
- 42:01Speaker 2: that business loans?
- 42:03Speaker 1: No, I never took as I never took a business loan.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Damn, that's crazy.
- 42:08Speaker 1: No, I never took a business loan. I don't like
- 42:10Speaker 1: to play I don't like to play around with I'm
- 42:15Speaker 1: a strong believer, like if you got it, keep it.
- 42:18Speaker 1: I'm not like a crazy credit I don't like owing
- 42:21Speaker 1: anything really. Yeah.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Well some sometimes owen in the in for the sake
- 42:27Speaker 2: of leverage can be good.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Yeah, but I get I get paranoid. But I've done
- 42:30Speaker 1: it for other businesses. So it's like when it made
- 42:35Speaker 1: when if if it makes sense, I would do it
- 42:37Speaker 1: but if I don't have to, I won't.
- 42:41Speaker 2: What advice do you give to people starting in that
- 42:44Speaker 2: line of industry in fashion?
- 42:47Speaker 1: Yeah, when you start a brand, my word of advice
- 42:51Speaker 1: would be that it's expensive, so come correct and give
- 42:58Speaker 1: away shit for free because you have to and you
- 43:00Speaker 1: can't feel no type of way about it.
- 43:02Speaker 2: Like now your brand, your pieces are very unique. Like
- 43:06Speaker 2: there was a hat that had it was sold out.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Of course it was sold out. It was a New
- 43:12Speaker 2: York had and it had half one color and half
- 43:16Speaker 2: no color. I think it was like white and orange
- 43:18Speaker 2: split down the middle. Though that shit was fresh death.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Clearly that was the reason why I was sold out.
- 43:23Speaker 2: So is it when you make well, the hats are
- 43:28Speaker 2: cool because there are different sizes, but some of the
- 43:30Speaker 2: clothes and stuff. Do you ever get nervous making a lot?
- 43:34Speaker 2: Because what if you get stuck with the product? Or
- 43:37Speaker 2: is it just like you make it and then it
- 43:38Speaker 2: just sells out till it does or how does that work?
- 43:41Speaker 1: I try to make it and let it, let it
- 43:44Speaker 1: do its thing. But let's say if I made a
- 43:46Speaker 1: lot of overstock and I'm sitting on some shit and
- 43:49Speaker 1: I gotta get rid of it, I usually go back
- 43:51Speaker 1: to my hood. I'll go back to New York and
- 43:53Speaker 1: I throw a pop up shop where everybody in my
- 43:55Speaker 1: hood could get shipped for like twenty thirty dollars.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Oh shit, okay, smart, Smart, So you're gonna get rid
- 44:01Speaker 2: of it, regard to get rid of it regardless. But
- 44:03Speaker 2: you never take a loss.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Never take a loss.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Okay, okay, never to take a loss.
- 44:07Speaker 1: But I do a lot of shit. I'll give a
- 44:09Speaker 1: lot of stuff away for free because I know it's
- 44:12Speaker 1: like each will teach one when I have it. I
- 44:14Speaker 1: wanted to be fresh, and I know the people that
- 44:16Speaker 1: I look out for are mostly good people when they're
- 44:19Speaker 1: gonna do the same thing when they get up. So
- 44:20Speaker 1: it's like a it's like a circle like that. So
- 44:22Speaker 1: if I'm sitting on product, yeah, i'll go barely make profit.
- 44:26Speaker 1: But now my whole hood's in it.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Smart, And you get a lot of love from
- 44:30Speaker 2: New York, Yeah, because some people their own city doesn't
- 44:33Speaker 2: go as hard.
- 44:34Speaker 1: My city go hard.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Now how often are you in New York
- 44:39Speaker 2: going tomorrow? I know, and you're going to see the
- 44:42Speaker 2: Book of Hope, And I feel like I'm sad that
- 44:47Speaker 2: I won't be there it's spirit in spirit my little
- 44:51Speaker 2: brother uh Ego, he's a comic in New York. Shoul
- 44:54Speaker 2: check him out when you go. He has hair just
- 44:56Speaker 2: like us, long as fu. But jay Z is my
- 45:02Speaker 2: favorite artists of all time, hence the jay Z painting
- 45:05Speaker 2: in the studio. But when Book of Hope came out,
- 45:08Speaker 2: I was like, Ego, man, is it worth a flight?
- 45:11Speaker 2: Is it worth a flight? Or should I book four
- 45:13Speaker 2: interviews down there so I could totality it? And he
- 45:16Speaker 2: was like, look, I'm gonna be honest, it's inspiring as fuck.
- 45:20Speaker 2: And I was like, oh, the wrong answer.
- 45:23Speaker 1: I know it. Jay Z's my favorite too. You know
- 45:25Speaker 1: what I'm saying, what's your favorite jay Z song?
- 45:29Speaker 2: Friend? And fos Ooh, I think it'll always be my favorite.
- 45:33Speaker 1: I think that's a good one.
- 45:35Speaker 2: I mean to be honest, it's hard to have a
- 45:37Speaker 2: favorite jay Z song because I feel like you grow
- 45:44Speaker 2: with jay Z even if it goes from reasonable Doubt
- 45:46Speaker 2: to like any record, you may not have liked it
- 45:49Speaker 2: the time it came out, but you will like it
- 45:52Speaker 2: at a time in your life, like you know, Like
- 45:55Speaker 2: there were periods where I was like Reasonable Doubt was
- 45:57Speaker 2: the worst record. Then I'm like twenty, I'm like, reasonable,
- 46:00Speaker 2: I was, I just wasn't wasn't it yet? Like you know,
- 46:03Speaker 2: I wasn't there yet yet. Yeah, And and it's weird
- 46:07Speaker 2: because I could relate to him from I don't know,
- 46:10Speaker 2: ten twelve. I mean that's when I really started listening
- 46:12Speaker 2: to him. But like being that young and being able
- 46:15Speaker 2: to relate to someone with the lyrics that he had
- 46:18Speaker 2: about hustling, it's weird. Like I just feel like, I
- 46:21Speaker 2: don't know, for whatever reason, I've always liked him, and
- 46:23Speaker 2: now to be what thirty nine and be like, yo,
- 46:26Speaker 2: this is the number one man in the game. It's like, yo,
- 46:29Speaker 2: I knew it, you know, But but he's truly I
- 46:33Speaker 2: don't know.
- 46:34Speaker 1: To meg Yeah, yeah, I don't argue nobody.
- 46:37Speaker 2: Have you Have you met him?
- 46:39Speaker 1: Nah?
- 46:40Speaker 2: I did?
- 46:41Speaker 1: That's dope.
- 46:41Speaker 2: I did, and I wasted my moment.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Oh shit.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's one of those things. I heard. My
- 46:48Speaker 2: dad met him and said to him, you should do
- 46:51Speaker 2: a song about Brooklyn, And then jay Z looked at
- 46:54Speaker 2: him and was like, got really upset. Clearly you don't
- 46:58Speaker 2: listen to my music. I was like, that's what you
- 47:02Speaker 2: came with. Yeah, so you know, but my dad's like,
- 47:08Speaker 2: we'll give him the white jew pass and yeah, my
- 47:11Speaker 2: mom is Jamaica and my dad is Jewish, so flip,
- 47:17Speaker 2: I'm so used to your combo. I never really see mine.
- 47:21Speaker 2: But then I see like, I think it's Serena Williams
- 47:23Speaker 2: or one of them.
- 47:24Speaker 1: That I barely ever see your combo either. Yeah, yeah,
- 47:27Speaker 1: I wouldn't have I wouldn't have pegged you for that combo.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Really got asked, what what cause that combo? I feel
- 47:33Speaker 1: like that com that combo. I don't know. I just
- 47:37Speaker 1: feel like I can I can sense them, the ones
- 47:40Speaker 1: that have the black mom and the white dad.
- 47:43Speaker 2: Did you ever read Trevor Noah's book called Born a Crime?
- 47:47Speaker 1: No? It was it good.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Bro, When you go to New York, don't take no
- 47:52Speaker 2: advice from me but this and and text me. Well,
- 47:56Speaker 2: I'll give you my number and hopefully you'll text me.
- 47:57Speaker 2: But when you go to New York, get the ever
- 48:00Speaker 2: Noah book Born a Crime, and just enjoy it and
- 48:04Speaker 2: then tell me. Or if you listen to audio books,
- 48:06Speaker 2: listen to it on audio. But I think being a
- 48:09Speaker 2: mixed person has its pros and its cons. I know
- 48:14Speaker 2: with my family it's been at the timing. Maybe of it.
- 48:19Speaker 2: It was more difficult for like maybe the white six
- 48:22Speaker 2: have black and the you know yeah or whatever. But
- 48:26Speaker 2: I feel like Trevor Noah kind of in that book
- 48:28Speaker 2: gave us our own lane, which I never thought we had.
- 48:31Speaker 2: So I was like, I never thought I had an identity.
- 48:35Speaker 2: I always was like, I'm black, I'm black, black, black,
- 48:38Speaker 2: or definitely never claimed white. That's for damn sure. Sorry guys,
- 48:43Speaker 2: either never claim white. In America. It's like once you
- 48:46Speaker 2: have a little bit of black, you're you're you're black,
- 48:49Speaker 2: you know whatever. So never ever, white was never something
- 48:52Speaker 2: I claimed. But I always felt like, you know, as
- 48:54Speaker 2: a mixed person, you're fighting to stay black or you're
- 48:58Speaker 2: trying it's fighting to prove that you're black, especially if
- 49:01Speaker 2: you're the lighter you are, the more you're trying to
- 49:04Speaker 2: fight to hone that crown. Right, did you ever have
- 49:07Speaker 2: those issues?
- 49:09Speaker 1: I'm super light, like white light, you know, you know
- 49:13Speaker 1: what I mean? And growing up I was just like, damn,
- 49:17Speaker 1: I'm light. Even though my mom's white. I was like,
- 49:20Speaker 1: in a winter, lighter than her because she'll go to
- 49:22Speaker 1: the tannem booth and all that. But I always felt
- 49:40Speaker 1: and it's just like I ain't never had those issues.
- 49:42Speaker 1: I'm not even gonna lie, not even internally.
- 49:44Speaker 2: But you you didn't feel like you had to cling
- 49:48Speaker 2: to one side. Well, I think also because the way
- 49:51Speaker 2: you described your town. Yeah, I kind of like my.
- 49:53Speaker 1: Whole white side, Like I love them, but I feel
- 49:55Speaker 1: like they was kind of like I definitely couldn't couldn't relate.
- 50:00Speaker 1: I could tell they were kind of like probably racist
- 50:03Speaker 1: before me and alone, you know what I'm saying. And
- 50:05Speaker 1: I always felt that and I sensed it a little bit,
- 50:07Speaker 1: but they had love for us. And you know, once
- 50:09Speaker 1: you start loving biracial babies, I feel like it changes
- 50:12Speaker 1: your perspective on like what it really is, the intermix
- 50:15Speaker 1: and intermingled with the other race. And I feel like
- 50:18Speaker 1: they got a little bit more kind and soft and
- 50:20Speaker 1: became more peaceful. But it was never like belligerent disrespect
- 50:24Speaker 1: or anything towards me that made me feel like I
- 50:26Speaker 1: had to choose.
- 50:27Speaker 2: Have you ever seen them do anything disrespectful to your dad?
- 50:30Speaker 1: Though? No, Okay, that's cool. My mom says this shit
- 50:34Speaker 1: like before I was born, in all that which I
- 50:36Speaker 1: could see different times, you know what I'm saying.
- 50:39Speaker 2: But nah, yeah, cause it it's weird. It's weird because
- 50:45Speaker 2: you get just a caoll it, like you get to
- 50:46Speaker 2: see how both sides live. Yeah, you know, you get
- 50:48Speaker 2: to see like you're right there. The white side will
- 50:52Speaker 2: definitely form some kind of attachment. But in my mind,
- 50:55Speaker 2: I will never feel one hundred percent equal to his
- 50:58Speaker 2: like cousins, not my white cousins. I'll never feel like,
- 51:02Speaker 2: you know, if there's favor to be placed, it's gonna
- 51:05Speaker 2: be from them, yeah, you know. And so you definitely
- 51:08Speaker 2: will always feel one hundred percent black, whether your mixed
- 51:11Speaker 2: or not. In if you're biracial, you're always gonna fee
- 51:15Speaker 2: one hundred percent black when it comes to your white
- 51:17Speaker 2: family because as there is that invisible line that's drawn
- 51:21Speaker 2: in the sand where it's like, yeah, we cool, but
- 51:23Speaker 2: we now one hundred percent you know.
- 51:26Speaker 1: But I don't come from like affluent white people. I
- 51:32Speaker 1: come from like trailer.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Well, well you said your hotwn is kind of like that,
- 51:36Speaker 2: so it's like kind of normal.
- 51:37Speaker 1: My moms don't play about her kids, so it was
- 51:40Speaker 1: never like it was like never like that.
- 51:43Speaker 2: Your mom sounds a little gangst a.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Little bit, she don't play about her kids. So well,
- 51:48Speaker 1: it's thick because like but if my if my white
- 51:51Speaker 1: side was like richer and affluent. I definitely saw that
- 51:54Speaker 1: with other my other biracial friends. But I'm like, yeah,
- 51:58Speaker 1: it's tough, y'all play over there type. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 52:00Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying.
- 52:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I experienced. But I think the I
- 52:05Speaker 2: always recommend the Trevor Noah but because I think that
- 52:07Speaker 2: it for me at least, it gave me so much
- 52:09Speaker 2: peace within myself. I was like, we got our own issues.
- 52:12Speaker 2: Nobody ever talks about.
- 52:13Speaker 1: We for sure got our own issues. But more so
- 52:17Speaker 1: like when you get into the school in like college,
- 52:19Speaker 1: and like start hearing conversations with my black female friends
- 52:24Speaker 1: and just not to me towards other light skin of honeys,
- 52:27Speaker 1: I would get a rhetoric and be like.
- 52:29Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, you know what I'm saying. It gets uncomfortable.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:33Speaker 2: It was a period where I would be like, oh man,
- 52:34Speaker 2: please don't have this conversation around me, Like the colorism
- 52:37Speaker 2: is crazy. It's crazy now. I know for me, when
- 52:40Speaker 2: I date, I don't prefer to date guys that only
- 52:44Speaker 2: date mixed or light skin. I feel like there's some
- 52:47Speaker 2: kind of internal something went wrong. So your mama's black, right,
- 52:53Speaker 2: but you don't date they? Okay, yeah, I don't want.
- 52:57Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 52:57Speaker 1: It just feels people think I don't date black women,
- 53:00Speaker 1: like really, yeah, it's just wild.
- 53:02Speaker 2: I always feel like, now this is racist what I'm
- 53:05Speaker 2: about to I always feel like light like dark and
- 53:10Speaker 2: dark light slighter, but it could be a myth. I
- 53:13Speaker 2: don't know. I like darker. I don't really date guys
- 53:16Speaker 2: that are light.
- 53:17Speaker 1: I like smart, pretty fine, you know, don't funny. You
- 53:24Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. But you know, once Instagram started
- 53:28Speaker 1: getting his wheels and shit showing your little honeys on Instagram,
- 53:31Speaker 1: now everybody like I come across females like, oh, I
- 53:34Speaker 1: already know your type. I know you don't you don't
- 53:36Speaker 1: like black girls. I'm like, how you say that? Like
- 53:38Speaker 1: my first love of my life full black, my other
- 53:43Speaker 1: first girl like full guy in these like black or
- 53:45Speaker 1: black black?
- 53:46Speaker 2: Do you respond when people through that, like if they
- 53:48Speaker 2: start throwing those accusations, because I'll just stop talking to people.
- 53:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no, I like to be like I gotta
- 53:54Speaker 1: I gotta track list, Like yeah, I like.
- 53:57Speaker 2: But you explain yourself if they do. Yeah, I'll exit
- 54:01Speaker 2: a phone call, like if a dude says something that
- 54:03Speaker 2: like an accusational and I don't know you, like, oh yeah,
- 54:06Speaker 2: you date this type, I'm like, all right, well I
- 54:08Speaker 2: gotta go, Like are you serious? I'm like, yeah, I
- 54:11Speaker 2: gotta go, because if you're coming to me with these
- 54:14Speaker 2: presumptions already, you're not trying to get to know me.
- 54:16Speaker 2: You've already figured out who I already am, a.
- 54:19Speaker 1: Woman that I wouldn't get to know anyways. They just said,
- 54:21Speaker 1: so you try and back, yeah, just just to be funny.
- 54:24Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, that's that's funny. You know what I'm saying,
- 54:27Speaker 1: I probably would't like you. Yeah, that doesn't mean I
- 54:30Speaker 1: don't like like white women. I'm more I'm on the
- 54:32Speaker 1: other side, like I don't I don't really date white women, not.
- 54:35Speaker 2: That I don't really.
- 54:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I hate them, but I don't.
- 54:38Speaker 2: Hate white But I've never I fucked up with one
- 54:43Speaker 2: white guy. For the record, some guy from high school. Okay,
- 54:47Speaker 2: later on in life, I felt like, dude's been trailing
- 54:49Speaker 2: me for.
- 54:50Speaker 1: So long.
- 54:55Speaker 2: Whatever, But once that is it, and it's probably gonna
- 54:59Speaker 2: remain that way. Definitely haven't unless it's like I don't
- 55:03Speaker 2: know the dude from shameless, you know, like I don't know,
- 55:08Speaker 2: for some strange reason, that guy from Beer, Yeah, I'd
- 55:11Speaker 2: be like.
- 55:12Speaker 3: Well, you know, yeah, maybe you Leonardo DiCaprio one hundred. Yes,
- 55:21Speaker 3: you know there's certain people where you'd be like, you know,
- 55:23Speaker 3: there's exceptions to every room, you know, like I'm sure
- 55:26Speaker 3: like the girl from Barbie, there's.
- 55:31Speaker 2: Not a lot of people. I don't give a fuck.
- 55:34Speaker 2: If you could be a diehard, I will never date
- 55:37Speaker 2: white shell walk into your room and you'd be like,
- 55:39Speaker 2: today's a different day.
- 55:40Speaker 1: I would date you. Know what I'm saying, I don't.
- 55:42Speaker 1: I don't have a problem. I just haven't really came
- 55:44Speaker 1: across a white woman where I'm like okay.
- 55:48Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But also I think for you, would
- 55:52Speaker 2: you would you if you met the perfect one? Would
- 55:55Speaker 2: you be a little intimidated about? Would you be the
- 55:58Speaker 2: type of call your friends and be like, so I
- 56:00Speaker 2: met this girl, she do would you disclaimer before you
- 56:05Speaker 2: decide to like make it official? I feel like you
- 56:08Speaker 2: will ship?
- 56:10Speaker 1: No? You want to know, Yo, that's got it crazy?
- 56:15Speaker 2: Why does that happened to you?
- 56:16Speaker 1: No, because that's some shit I might do.
- 56:19Speaker 2: I'm yeah, not everybody, you know, Like I noticed, like me.
- 56:23Speaker 1: But people say id take or whatever the case may be.
- 56:26Speaker 1: But I know, like it's a problem with me. I
- 56:32Speaker 1: feel uncomfortable around a huge white group of people. It
- 56:40Speaker 1: makes me feel uncomfortable.
- 56:41Speaker 2: That's how I kind of feel around like a lot
- 56:43Speaker 2: of rich people. I don't know, for some sort of
- 56:45Speaker 2: reason I think I get in my head. Yeah, but
- 56:48Speaker 2: white people, no, I just I played my position in
- 56:54Speaker 2: those rivers, you know, back in the day. It's funny
- 56:57Speaker 2: because now we're like more talking about like rules of
- 57:01Speaker 2: the workplace. But like whenever I work for white people,
- 57:03Speaker 2: you know, I used to rock a lot of braids
- 57:06Speaker 2: and it was like, Okay, Coley, we're about to have
- 57:09Speaker 2: an event, so uh, hair looks great. But events on Thursday, Yes, sir,
- 57:17Speaker 2: it's gonna be out and the braids will be gone
- 57:19Speaker 2: by Thursday. You know, they still saying now all the
- 57:22Speaker 2: way relation.
- 57:23Speaker 1: Ship, you know what I'm saying, Yeah, white people do
- 57:27Speaker 1: that ship a lot, Like do comb your hair? Your
- 57:29Speaker 1: hair so nice to brush? Can I touch it? Like
- 57:33Speaker 1: I had that way. I had a white woman do
- 57:35Speaker 1: that to me the other day. She didn't even asked,
- 57:37Speaker 1: she just started touching my hair, like, oh god, it's
- 57:38Speaker 1: so beautiful and it wasn't in a bad way, but
- 57:40Speaker 1: it was just like you're miss You didn't even have
- 57:44Speaker 1: to touch my hair. You're like you're petting me now. And
- 57:46Speaker 1: I don't like the code switch. I like to keep
- 57:48Speaker 1: I like to keep it me wherever I'm at. And
- 57:50Speaker 1: I'm very like smart, intellectual, well spoken one. I need
- 57:53Speaker 1: to be what I'm still I still like to be me.
- 57:56Speaker 1: I still like to get my urban ebonics on.
- 57:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yea, yeah yeah.
- 58:00Speaker 1: I hate the colde switch. And I'm like I switch
- 58:03Speaker 1: in my body about.
- 58:04Speaker 2: It, like you know, really, so you don't switch. I
- 58:06Speaker 2: switch all day. Because my grandfather, with my first company,
- 58:10Speaker 2: the magazine, he would always come up to me. He'd
- 58:13Speaker 2: be like, Colleen, when you get in a room with
- 58:15Speaker 2: these people, please don't speak you bonics. I'd be like
- 58:19Speaker 2: what and he'd be.
- 58:19Speaker 1: Like, don't speak to you bonics.
- 58:22Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like, okay, Grandpa, okay. But
- 58:27Speaker 2: my grandfather loved the shit out of me, but he
- 58:29Speaker 2: definitely was like, don't don't speak to you bonics, you know.
- 58:32Speaker 2: And I was like, all right, whatever, you know, it
- 58:36Speaker 2: is what it is. But depending on the white room,
- 58:40Speaker 2: you know, but I'll switch it up for money.
- 58:42Speaker 1: I'll switch it up at.
- 58:45Speaker 2: People in there. I'll be like, yes, sir, uh, you'll
- 58:48Speaker 2: never hear it. Curse really my mouth, you know. But
- 58:50Speaker 2: I will say this though. I sent my daughter to
- 58:52Speaker 2: school and she doesn't let me touch your hair. She
- 58:55Speaker 2: just curly hair, never lets me touch it, acts like
- 58:58Speaker 2: bloody murder. If I barely touching right go near, I'm like, hey,
- 59:02Speaker 2: can I do? But every day she comes home from
- 59:06Speaker 2: school with a brand new hairdo, and a part of
- 59:09Speaker 2: me is like, I wonder why they're always playing in
- 59:10Speaker 2: your hair. But the other part of me is like,
- 59:13Speaker 2: at least someone gets to do her hair, and they
- 59:16Speaker 2: do great styles. So I'm like, kudos to you. You
- 59:18Speaker 2: want to run your fingers to dry curly hair, by
- 59:21Speaker 2: all means I would spray it down.
- 59:24Speaker 3: You let her run her fingers to it. I can't
- 59:26Speaker 3: even spray it down. Do you comb your hair dry?
- 59:30Speaker 1: Oh?
- 59:30Speaker 2: No, never, I've never done it.
- 59:32Speaker 1: No, no, right, it's not gonna work.
- 59:35Speaker 2: It would never happen.
- 59:35Speaker 1: I'm breaking comb, that's just going.
- 59:39Speaker 2: I'm like, conditioner and water is my best friend. I
- 59:42Speaker 2: barely shampoo. Do you shampoo?
- 59:44Speaker 1: What?
- 59:45Speaker 2: I know we're getting so off topic, but anyways.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Nah, conditioner all the way.
- 59:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like, I shampoo probably once or twice twice
- 59:54Speaker 2: a week. No, I don't do it that much. The
- 59:58Speaker 2: amount of here you have, I wouldn't even do it
- 59:59Speaker 2: that much. It's dries it out.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: Yeah, but my ship, I swim a lot.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Oh I don't know how to swim.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Teach me, that's great, teach me.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: Teach me please. Yeah, I could see that that chlorine
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: would dry it out.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Yeah, do but I like to swim. I like to
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: run so and I want you know, you have a
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: hug somebody in their hair stins. I don't want that.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: I don't want that.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: I use to Garnier or herbal Essence. I feel like
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: they're the thicker, thickest conditioner I can find. I've tried
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: all the mixed chicks, all the random products, black hair products.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: None of that stuff works for me. But fruit tos Guardia,
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: what are you using?
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: Oh? I go through a plethora of things, you know
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: what I mean.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: As long as it's not like tailing Pony. I saw
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: that ship, I.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Was like, I use like that Moroccan, the Moroccan brand.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: Oh, really, that stuff doesn't work either. Have you tried
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: the fruits garnier you don't like, oh, I I literally
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: leave in their regular conditioner. It keeps my without frizz.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: Okay, get that's a gem.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: Yeah. I just don't rent it all out because if
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: you if you, if you rent out too much, then
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: it doesn't keep the frizz. But if you keeping too much,
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: it keeps your weight on your curls heavier, so it
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: doesn't get as fluffy if you use it. Holler at me,
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: I promise you, and I combed through my hair so
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: fast in the shower with it, versus like I could.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: Literally if you gave me ten conditioners, I will tell
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: you which is the best from curly hair just by
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: touching it. Like if you line them all up, I'd
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: be like, this one's not gonna work. This one's gonna work,
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: this one's not just by the thickness period. I don't
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: give a fuck what you name it. I'm like, that
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: shit ain't gonna work. I don't use no gel or nothing,
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: just conditioner and water.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: This shit works.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: But all right, back to don Pujon. What is the
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: biggest milestones you think you have reached thus far? And
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: what milestones are you hoping to reach.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: The biggest milestone I've hit thus far for me is
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: accepting the fact that it's okay to like rebrand and
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: readjust and start over sometimes and like pull everything down
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: to get a fresh new start. I used to just
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: go so fucking hard and sometimes I'll burn out. So
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: now I finally reached a point in my career where
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: I'm okay with like recharging instead of just burning out
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: and then burning out and burning out. I have like
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: a really good work life balance and I'm happy about that.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: And it's through the ebbs and flows of learning the
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: business that I've gotten there.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: And what I want to do in the future, I
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: just want to I want to be like the biggest
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: black lesbian creative director, fashion stylist. I want to be
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: known for just having a fashion brand, creating other fashion brands,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: and I want to do costume for film and TV.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: I've never seen I thought, you're you're getting into that, right, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: for sure, you just got into that, right.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: Just got into that. But I've never seen a brand Lupid.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: I've never seen an actual fashion designer Lupid around.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: Now I'm gonna play Devil's Advocate. Is there a reason
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: why you want to be the biggest black and lesbian
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: brand instead of just the biggest creative director.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Oh, creative, creative, creative director, because I just see a
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: lot of.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: Do you see a lot of certain type in that
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: space or some see a lot of men? Okay, see
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: a lot of men and women's fashion. I don't see any.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: There's Wilds Browner, shout out to her, but I don't
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: see a lot of women in men's fashion at all.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: Oh, so you want but are you saying that you
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: want to just be in men's fashion.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Or just yeah? That's why I stand. I'm not really
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: in the women's way.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: I'm fuck it, but your gear, I feel like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: but you don't really mess with the women's Yeah, I don't.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: Really mess with the women's stuff. It's because women are
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: getting more fashionable and more comfortable in baggy and baggy
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: and drogeness looks. Yeah, yeah, more than they were.
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: But imagine if like East Saint Laurent did the whole
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: costume for like a breakfast at Tiffany's the movie. Okay,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: that's how I kind of I wanna. I want to
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: structure it that way, Like Don't Put You On? Did
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: the costuming for the whole Black Panther or something like that.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: Now, with the writers strike and everything that's going on,
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: is it hindering you at all?
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, a lot of productions are just stopped.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: So how long have you been doing the costume work
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: for TV or have you started six months? Six months?
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: And what was like the big the first big one.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: You did, the shy On show on Show Tom, the
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: show called the Shay Shoot.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Did they pay a lot?
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: Well, it's a I'm in a union, so you only
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: get paid at the rate the rate of the union,
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: which the costume designers were at the bottom of the
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: totem pole, and they want to strike for that because
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: it's like you're naked without us. You know, you can't
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: build a character without the costuming.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: And the way the union works is like you can't
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: make over, Like you can't negotiate over a certain amount.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: Hell no, because you you. I mean you could, but
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: nobody will ever do that because they don't have to,
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So it's like you got
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: your producers, then you got like a cinematographer, then you
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: got everybody else and fucking and everything else, and then
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: you got costume designer assistant costume designer at the bottom.
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: What how'd you get into that line? Though? How'd you
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: get into shy?
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Somebody called me and asked me if I wanted to
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: do it?
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: So you got in through your friend?
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: Yeah? Through my friends. She's one of the you know,
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: creators of the show. Showrunner. She called like, I got
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: this project for you, broke down the details, and I'm like,
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: I'm down. You know what I'm saying. It was my
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: first time.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: Did you even ask how once you You're just like
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: I'm down. Just like I'm down. I would have been
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: so excited and you were you on set? Or how
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: does it work.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: For that one? I wasn't on set. I was just
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: corresponding with the costume designers on set to make things
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: and then ship them, and then we're shipping back and
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: then we FaceTime a lot and try to get down
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: to the nitty gritty.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: Why wasn't Why could? Cause it's taped over there.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: Cause it's taped over there, and they have to put
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: you up. So a lot of productions will cut corners,
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: cut costs, do whatever they need to do. Like if
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: you have your machinery and all that shit at home,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: you're better there than you are on set every day.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: So you're making the clothes and stuff get the freak
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: out and your names and the titles and everything. Is
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: the check worth it?
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: I like it.
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: You make more money from don Key John.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it sounds like you're like, yeah, but my bread
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: and butter is this.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Yeah. I like it though. So it's like it's a
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: different It's like you part of the energy of a
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: a ah of a show and like a film or
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: something like that. It's a different energy source than when
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: I give them don Do.
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: You get to put your clothes on them? I could,
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: but you don't.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: I could, by don't like why I god like to
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: the savagery. I could, but I would slip it in.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: There's a lot of bells and wisdom whistles. That's like
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: a Disney the uh a Disney m Corporation thing. So
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: it's not just as easy as like, yo, put the
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: fucking shirt on us. Yeah, yeah, a lot of Okay,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: those are whistles and shit.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: So down the road you can. So now the writer
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: strike has you on hold in regards to that lane,
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: but don is holding you.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: S yeah, yeah, holding me strong, and and I the
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: strike's gonna get over and I'm gonna con and I'm
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: still a new booty in it. So I got a
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: I got a lot to learn, but I would do
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: that just to do that. I always I manifested that.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: I always wanted to do that. I used to tell
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: my girl, like, Yo, I A always wanna I wanna
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: do costume man? Yeah, yeah, And it just l T.
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: Do you believe that manifestation is a part of the
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: key to your success?
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Me, I'm not. I'm not even gonna lie. A couple
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: of years ago, I wasn't even put on to any
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: of that. I got with my lady and she put
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: me on to this manifestation awareness all that shit. Even
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: though I don't like the word, cause I think it's
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: like a buzzword. Now everybody's like I manifest everything. But
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: I do feel like when you're a good person and
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: you got good energy and you speak life in to
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: yourself and they call it affirmations, I didn't know what
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: it was. I always talked good about myself, don't spoke
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: kind words to myself and shit like that. I didn't
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: know the terminology for it, but I was always doing that,
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: and I feel like that's a powerful thing in anybody's success,
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: and not only that, being like a avid reader in
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: search of knowledge. You know what I'm saying in other
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: people's stories. You learn a lot from other people. Man,
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: and you and you know, just just soak it like
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: a sponge, just soaking up game. Even like talking about
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: jay Z, I don't got much to relate to jay
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: Z and what he's doing now, but I feel like
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: a lot of my confidence I got from listening to
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: that man yep, And even though I'm not jay Z,
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: after I take my headphones off, I felt.
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: Like, yeah, yeah, like there is something like I feel
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: like my most baddest self is when I'm listening to
- 1:09:21Speaker 5: jay Z, even though I do cheat on jay Z
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: a lot with Drake Mgmen, though it's so hard because
- 1:09:29Speaker 5: Drake got that Sar.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: I never listened to a Drake singing song, just so
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: you know. All whenever he puts out a record, he
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: puts like the singing tracks on, I.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: Completely ignore it in the garbage. Fuck it.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: I hate when Drake sings, like, I absolutely hate it.
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: I'm like, bro, stick to wrap your amazing, amazing, but
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: that singing It's like, dude, I don't even know who
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: you are. Did you listen to the last ten records.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: The fuck is this, dude?
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: I feel the same exact ways to tell my manager,
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: Like whenever he did that double disc, I'm like, throw
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: that Honeymoon out the window. I don't want. I don't want.
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: That time he puts out like some kind of singing,
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: I'm like, yo, me too, I feel because it's like
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: two different people. It's like, Yo, Drake, you had all
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: this this confidence and swagger, and then you go to
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: this record and you just singing. I don't even know what.
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: I don't even listen. It's just it's so polar opposite
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: of who he is.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: The same way. But it's funny though, because I do
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: not have the same affinity for Drake. Like whenever I
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: listen to Drake take it out my headphones, I don't
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: feel like Drake, you know, because some of it.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: I play energy and I'd be like, okay.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like he just went off on a verse.
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: But I'm really telling you, when I used to listen
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: to Whole, I used to feel.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: Like that, and I feel like he just got me
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: through so many difficult conversations. I mean, I mean different
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: difficult life experiences, you know, Like he's just I don't know.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: But enough about Jay, So Knox, is there anything that
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: your fans don't know about you that you could share
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: with us on this show that would be kind of interesting?
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: I know we don't talk about your music. Are you
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: pausing music or.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: Oh no, I'm about to I'm about to drop something real, real, fancy.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: I actually went to Paris for like thirty days and
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: kind of got my got inspired. I guess you would say,
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: like reinspired. So I'm definitely definitely.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: Paris for thirty days.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: I saw a video online that said Paris wasn't as
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: pretty as everybody.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: I don't know where he was staying. You can't cheap
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: out Paris.
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: Man, Oh for real? Okay, because some guy was like,
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: I don't know what they talking about parents, look at all.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: The hood and can't go to Paris on spirit living
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: in hostels?
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: And okay, got it?
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: So were you balling out of control in Paris?
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: Not too crazy? But you can't go to Paris looking
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: for Vegas?
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, okay, got it.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: You can't go to Paris looking for Miami. You can't
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: go to Paris.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: Look, I'm gonna send you that video if I ever
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: see it.
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: I know the video. I've seen it.
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: It was terrible. I was like, damn, but.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: It's like I'm staying by like the Champs Elis and
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: the arts they triumph for. It's like where it's like cool.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: If you staying in the that's like going to La
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: but you stay in downtown.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's facts.
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: Okay, okay, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: So where you were at it was nice. You wouldn't
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: put out your video on saying.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: You're in the heart of Paris. But go to the
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: heart of any city, man, it's shitty. Yeah.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Every city has its ups and down.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Every city got there.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: He made like it was just this wild.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: Some was wild. The food.
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: Why didn't you You should put out your.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: Yeah, the food is banging. He's wild.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: He was just in the food too. Yeah.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: I've reposted it and a lot of people agree with me.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: Now they were like, oh, but there's no black shit
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: to do. Check it out, yo, go on the internet.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: There's a lot of shit for black people to do
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: in Paris. You can google it, you can get on Instagram,
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: you can go on certain pages. It's just for black
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: people in Paris. Man, you gotta do some some research,
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: and you can't go to one place looking for another
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: type of turn up. I had a fabulous time in Paris.
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: Well thirty days, got lee, I've never been. I gotta go.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: I gotta travel more.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: You gotta go.
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: I'm gonna go.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Don't listen to that guy well Ship.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: I saw that video. I said, say less, say less.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: Say less, scratching it off my bucket list.
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: It was never on my bucket list, like I want
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: to go to Jamaica stuff like that. But you know,
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: to be honest, I have a two year old, so
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: I'm all about all the kids ship right now. A
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: ten year old gave me a dope ass compliment the
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: other day and I felt like a fucking superstar. She
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: was like, you're your daughters so lucky. You're such a
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: cool mom. You know all the fun stuff to do.
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: And I said, shit, let me call all my girlfriends
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: tell him about this compliment.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: Yea.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: I called all my friends, was like, you never guess
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: what happened to me. They were like, you got a man, No.
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: No, But this ten year old at the playground while
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: I was pushing the Ryde some swings told me I
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: was a cool mom because I knew all the cool shit.
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: So I loog up every week like cool stuff for
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: like toddlers to do cool experiences, and literally, like all
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: week long, I'm like looking for cool shit. And it's
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: like basically I get I pay for me and she
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: gets in for free. So it's even more dope because
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: she's just like my tag along or whatever. But we
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: do cool ass experience. I'm like a kid again.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: You gotta let them absorb and you can.
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: Look at and I'll be honest, I've never been into
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: the club never, never, once, Like you've probably seen me
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: in the club like twice my whole life. So like
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: I feel like I'm more suited for the kid experiences.
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: So I have a fucking blast, and I don't pull
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: out my phone and tape and like spread it with
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: the world. I literally am just like present present and
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: I fucking enjoy it.
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: That's a vibe people don't know about me.
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: I'm pretty I'm pretty vulnerable. I'm pretty open. I got
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: a this might be something I stopped smoking with.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: Well, I saw you smoking this, like was it e cigarette? Yeah,
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: so he smoked cigarettes because I heard it in your thing.
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: You were like, I pick up the cigarettes and.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: I at that time when I was super super fucking down,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Yeah I did, I was, but not.
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: She never decided maybe quitting was the option.
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: Not like nah, But I was never a pack buyer,
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: Like it's it's crazy to say. I was always like that,
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: can you bust me? Can you ace me? Can you
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: trace me on? Like my man cigarette? Like, bust me,
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: give me half of that. I never wanted to buy
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: a package. I'm not like, I'm not a cigarette buyer.
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: You can ask my manager. It's crazy, but this nigga
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: never seen me.
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: He e cigarette. Though, I'm gonna get on you by
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: about this. By the way, some shake it.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: I'm addicted.
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: You're addicted to it.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: I'm now I'm addicted to the act of smoking. Like
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: if I was addicted to it, I would have had
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: to hit it right now.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: Why don't you just get candy cigarettes? And just they
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: don't even sell candy cigarette?
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: You know what. I'm waiting on my other things to come.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: I usually have this thing that's made out of Switzerland.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: Though all of this it's just like natural herbs you
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: could smoke, you could vape like cammameal and ostragonda and shit.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: But I ran out.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: But you're just you're you're I thought you're addicted to
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: the movement. You're you're actually addicted to the inhill or the.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: Smoking, the mouth and the Really, it's the thing. A
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: lot a lot of people are. Really it's a fucking thing. Okay.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: You think everybody who smokes all the time, it smokes,
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: he wants to get high. I'm addicted to the act.
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: It's the act. It's the Oh okay, it's the act
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: of it.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: It's not like pretending to act. It's like the Actually, it's.
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: The actual act of of the rich.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: Get your herbal smokes so I don't have to talk
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: stuff about your e cigarette.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: Yeah that's a fact. And I wish I could remember
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: the name of this company, but I gotta send to
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: New York while I'm going because I love that way more.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: They taste way better and the energy exchange is just
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: way better. But I just ran out, you know what
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: I mean. And they take forever to come. Okay.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: So when we were shooting, a lot of you guys
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: don't know this, but uh, knocks knocks got pulled by
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: the police, yeah, or something ridiculous. I like how you
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: handled it. You were super chill me. I probably would
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: have been way more hostile and attitude. You were really
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: chilled with the cop. I think that was like really
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: different and unique how you handled it, cause especially because
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: the ticket was so expensive.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I would be like, what the.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Bleep bleep bleep, you know, and I would it probably
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: would have ruined my day. And I think that's kind
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: of cool to see someone in a stressful situation and
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: see like, that's how they handle that energy. And so
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: your energy since you've got here has been really really
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: nice and sweet, and I think that's something that people
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: that see don Pujon and they see the brand and
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: the merge. I don't think you look at that brand
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: and say, okay, well knocks you look cool, you're very hip,
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: But this is how she is in stressful situation. I
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: think that was kind of cool. You know, it gives
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: a different side of how you handle stressful, messed up situations.
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: I was like, oh, don't worry, I got this. I
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: thought it was mall security, so I was like, I
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: got this, and I saw Purpa girl. I don't know
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: what to tell you. The police are bad, he was alriting.
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, I'm not gonna approach him.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: He went right. He was like, I'm gonna you're getting
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: a ticket and I'm taking the sticker.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, yeah that I saw how serious he was.
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: And you know, if I hear the blue sound, I'm
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: already about to hit the day.
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: He's like yeah, but I'm like, come on, man, but
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: you know, people, he's having a bad day and I'm not.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: So that's how you looked at it? Is that why
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: you were so calm?
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: You think I looked at but it honestly, I looked
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: about it as a blessing because I was like, your
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: father stopped down the road or something. It could have been,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: could have been worse. At least I'm parked. You can't
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: ask me for my l was and my ID. We're
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: not doing all that shit, oh I'm saying. So I
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: was like, okay, better better than not better here parked
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: than any other situation or some more bullshit where he
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: could have got messy and stupid. I'm on the sideline
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: all crazy.
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: Let me tell you, In California, there's so many ways
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: to get pulled over. But I've driven in California so
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: many years with a suspended license with bad tags. Just
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: looking over my shoulder. I've learned the secret to driving
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: in LA is driving expensive cars. You drive an expensive car,
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: you're less likely to get pulled over.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: When you drive a hootie, man, you ain't gonna make
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: it three blocks. Yeah, they gonna they gonna find something.
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: Whenever I drove a hootie, I switched up police. I
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: got'ta never fuck with me.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't really get fucked with either. Until this
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: dude wanted to fuck me today.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: Yeah. Well you could tell he was looking for something
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: because he was parked.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: Yeah, he would you ever get parked? He looked at me,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: he followed me, parked behind me. I said, Yo, this
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: man about the hop and you know what I should
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: have done. I should have just hopped out the car.
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: No, no, I.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: Think he would have sucked with you more. One time
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: I got pulled over and the told me to get
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: out the car. Remember this story for the rest of
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: your life. And now he was like, uh, yeah, I
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: just need you to get out the car and sign
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: this ticket. True story. My friend behind the screen notes
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: because she got the phone call. But uh, he's like,
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: get out the car, sign the ticket. I get out
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: and he's like, now put your hands behind your back.
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: I'm like, what is this? MTV punped, like, what the
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: fuck is going on? He's like, you're under arrest.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: I'm like, for what see that that would have been
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: a little bit more.
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: I'm not bro I went to jail for like twenty
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: four hours, and I didn't know why I was in there.
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: But let me tell you something. I learned a lot
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: about prostitution and pimping in jail I never will ever
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: use in real life. And it was a horrifying experience.
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: And I said, moving forward, I will never miss paying
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: a ticket or anything, because when I was there, I'd
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: be like, oh, let these tickets rack up. They could
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: give me time served. What's three days in jail?
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: Shit?
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: R There is nothing more painful in life than prison.
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: And I only went for one day and I was like,
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: I'll never I'll never do anything to in the back here.
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: And then I got out and they said there was nothing.
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: So I just had time served for nothing, and I
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: called my girl Mackenzie. Her and her daughter picked me up,
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: and her daughter asked me a series of questions like
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: she was an adult. But but all I know is
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: that that was the last time I'll ever go to jail,
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: god willing, and I don't fuck with the police now,
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: it's crazy. Try if they ever take you, get out
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: inside the ticket. Just no, it's not good.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: I'm not doing that.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: Don't ever get out the car in the car, sir.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: I'd rather let You're gonna have to do what you
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: gotta do. Like I'm not. I'm not doing I'm not
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: giving you my idea and all that ship. I just don't.
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, ego, my little brother, we're all running with him,
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: and he jumped the termstile with us, and my dad
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: was with him, and luckily this white man is gonna
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: argued my brother out of this ticket. But my goodness,
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: it was. It was hilarious for that. But thank you
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: so much for coming on our show and sharing your
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: truth with Don Pujan and uh. And I'm definitely gonna

- 1:22:26Speaker 1: not bullshit. I have put some things in the air fryer.
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: You feel me, but I don't.
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: I don't like pre frozen things in the air fire.
