Transcript
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: welcome in soon as on a side post game podcast here for me very very small confines it's just a radio room of high above Williams Bryce Stadium sorry for a little close but it's intimate here which is totally fun is what happens
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: This is a radio booth for you Ryan Chapman here, Carson viewed alongside me jubilant after his sub-devils, just took down the Texas Tech Red Raiders of appealing that many of you probably are feeling right now, as you watch this Oklahoma, comes into South Carolina first time ever Carson 26 to 7 victors in a game that wasn't even really that close.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: No, it really was, and I think viewers are going to be fine with this a little bit closer up setting.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little amateur, but after what happened on the field, I think you guys are okay with that.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: It was dominant all three facets of the game, which is just a total 180 from what happened last week against Texas or I mean, oh, you fans have to be breathing the biggest sigh of relief possible after today's game.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's only talked about league, right?
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: That, uh, come on out of the Texas game, was it ugly at times?
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, third quarter, yes, for sure.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: The fact of you're just five and one, you're one of one at SEC Play, but everything in front of you is totally valid and it's totally on the table.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's what the coaches have to say, so the players have to say, if you can come and take care of business here on Saturday at Williamsburg Stadium, and this is a game, a road game that Brent Benholz has not been great on the road.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: It is Oklahoma career, this particular game trying to get off of the skid on the road has been a bad spot.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: And there was one kind of tense moment.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start the end of the first half course.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: the whole situation where South Carolina punts, Oakland is up 14 to nothing, and you're sitting here going, okay, is this a spot where Oklahoma can really slam the door and it at the end of that punt.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: Elijah Thomas gets hits for an unnecessary rep, so it moves the little back from the near, you know,
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's not quite an infield, but it puts in the Oklahoma 2425 yard line, oh you go three and out, and then Grace Miller, who is done nothing but impressed since he stepped into the lineup.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: He only boots at 18 yards, Carson, and then Oklahoma, one of the 13 pins, who it bows up, looks like they have a stop on 4th and 2.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think that the Laura Souther's got there, but after review, they claimed that he did.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: You get back to back past your fear, and it's probably the balls of the 2, Oklahoma
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: Almost has a big goal line stand Carson and then on fourth and two Kindle Daniels said hand up after the game.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm the one that blitz late.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's 14 seven and There's a little bit of time left in the first half We get to the end of that, but that's come to the spot last week, right?
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: Oakland dictated the game It was six not 14 for Oklahoma Texas able to kind of get back in it and then Texas sees a bit of a third quarter Oklahoma Infatically shut that door very very fast at a half time
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: They really did, and it was one of those things that I think everybody in the press box on the field was thinking, oh gosh, is this just another version of what happened last week?
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: And it really could have been if the response wasn't good if the half time they didn't respond to it the right way, make the right adjustments.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: Third court quarter they just came out great they had to drive it into with the San Del Fielgo, then obviously Matthier's ball to Isaiah Satania in the corner of the inzone.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: After a fulfilled fake attempt to buy South Carolina, it was just a great response, both defensively offensively needed, did what they needed to do to, by the time the fourth quarter started, that mean the game was pretty much over.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a daily touchdown.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: It started empty, and it's kind of a weird setup.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: Behind us, the state fair, of South Carolina fairs rolling on it.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of people, you can see a half time.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: There were some people who decided it was kind of hot out there today to funnel out, head to the fair, all that.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: And Oklahoma did with a good team guess.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: They said, that was a sloppy five minutes of probably real time.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: And they made it just a sloppy five minutes.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: Even when you look at it, Carson, soon it's kind of got the ball back.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: Not enough time to probably make something happen, had to give it away, and then Grayson kind of went out there ahead of much better sped her pun, and then that moment at the end of the first half where Salka and I had burned the time out trying to go over the middle didn't get the first half, so it had the time out the back of their pocket.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: They try to go over the middle again and go tempo and spike you just to get a feel goal at tip.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma, coolly, calmly, just
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'm kind of, uh, wow, without a peer, your legs are my leg.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just make sure that everything's good, Seth going, I can't get it off.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: And really, from there, it was like South Carolina, if they had any momentum, it lasted quite literally three or four minutes.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oakland comes out strong first defensive series of the second half, and then by, like you said, by the end of that third quarter, the game was over it, and it was just a,
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: I thought they showed a lot of poised today and a spot that not as good a team as Texas that they played today but a spot where it could have snowballed at this team if the wheels were going to fall off, they had a little bit of the ingredients for it to happen and they quickly just stood up and said, one bad drive, not happening, not today.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they did.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: I want to first ask.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: I was diagonal from where it happened when the time ran out in the second quarter was that kind of bush league on the part of OU did the table It was just what it's what I mean it's smart.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, one of those things that I'm I would even say this, but it's like hey, they have to clock it They had multiple guys rally to the football and then they just I'm a little slow They later I mean a smart football everyone that's yeah, I didn't know if it was clear that
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: that there should have been more time left.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I know that you were kind of in the corner because the touchdowns really, really bad.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the hedges right behind the insult, but there's all those things that Oklahoma start running off the field and Shane being trying to get everybody stopped.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: And we were looking around, going,
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: the only wrong thing that can happen is to put more time on more time on for that because Oklahoma it wasn't it wasn't like a grieges it wasn't like a personal foul level someone jumping on the pile and no one extra jumped on the pile they just laid on it was just smart football a hey you know that they had to be in a hurry
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: Lay on the pile and time ran out.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: So after I could get the spike they never even got the ball spike Here was by thing.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't just like oh, is there one second like they never got the ball spot There was no argument.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was a good moment there and then that kind of I thought paid the way for Oklahoma to just dictate things in the second half much Like you did in the first quarter
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, to answer your original question.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry for going a little bit of a tangent there, but yeah, that really was that and I guess allowing them to score on that drive even though when you talk about that drive They almost had a gold line stand when Norris apparently if he even did get that first down.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean the defense
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to say the defense was bad against Texas, but it was the worst it's been all season.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: There was tackles.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: It was a bad corner, right?
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: It was a bad corner, where they let Texas go some for eight on third days.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: But there were a lot of missed tackles.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't see that.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't see players who really struggled last week, like Robert Speer's yearning, the Samuel Masigo.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: I thought both of them were excellent, and I haven't seen the grades or anything like that yet.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: But they looked fantastic.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of those players that kind of didn't live up to expectations against Texas played really well.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: You see a guy like Taylor Wein.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: He was good against Texas.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: He was even better today.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: I just thought holistically the defense was phenomenal today.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and you look at what they did to 13 tackles for loss, six sacs.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: They could have had a couple more, but that's what Laura Celis does.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's what everyone talked about on all the clients.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: You made an LSU defense that should have gotten home a lot more.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: And credit to him, because he just had no time and he made so many plays out of nothing.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: So credit to him, he's going to be good on Sundays.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: I believe.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the one, like the one moment we were picking one moment there was like, I don't know how this is going to go chief was that first fourth and two where South Carolina basically runs like a full-back dive with their running back and it busts through for a 36-yard game.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's to play the attention Williams got her, which Britain will say, good news after the M1 Gentry Williams.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: He said that they went through all the x-rays.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_01]: the initial reports were positive as far as like the initial stuff going for uh... juncture was he did not come back into the game but we'll see there and then from there that was the first instance with a defense really stood tall they got a great play from jayme jackson uh... it was what jayme jackson second down kingdom then is a third down and then they played good coverage more so it's try to get through the middle of the line scrimmage it was tailored wine there on fourth down
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: They went for our only you could tell this was a South Carolina team was kind of like on till on edge trying to save their season today And outside of again that the hygiene trip before halftime, Oklahoma just boat up and it made their life really, really tough to that.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: They did it and I mean It is you have to take it that South Carolina's offense is one that has problems.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: They're not perfect.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: They're lines bad
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: the fans are calling for the offensive coordinator to be gone at this point.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: Even so, this was an incredible defensive performance, the pick on the fake pump.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: That was just icing on the cake.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: It really was stout.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: They gave up some big plays, but it was always how they responded to those.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's what really stood tall to me.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: It was what we saw against Michigan and against Hopper, right?
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: That was kind of the...
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to say there was no response last week because they were good in the first half.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: It was just that in the third quarter when against Texas when like the first down start happening, that's where no one was found away to say, okay, this is where we stop and that's kind of, I think that it was kind of a part of a set after the game.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: He said that what they did this week on offense and defense was challenge everyone.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, look at some of the stuff against Texas, the pile was not moving the right way.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: Let's move this pile the right direction and the offensive line did their job.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get to that here in a second, but I thought the defense certainly was one that they just bottled up South Carolina.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: There's nothing that they could do.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you look at it and
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: Even if you left the sack yardage in for a South Carolina off the six acts, they still didn't get quite to a hundred yards rushing below our sellers in the game the only real op it like they they finished with the of course my wife I goes out.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: They finished with I think it was like 255 or 285 Tellyarts of offense.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: I wrote it in the store.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'll go inside the side.com
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: 85 with the total yards from South Carolina came in the fourth quarter when the game was done.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: It was not happening.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: It was a absolutely, I thought, dominant performance from the defense and he looked at it and go, another one of those days where 26 to 7, not even really that close.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: And for me, part of that was just simply that for John Baterer, they didn't ask him to push the ball down to him.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: If he would fully healthy John Baterer that asked to push the ball down.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: and 85 of those came in the court quarter for South Carolina.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, go to almost ran for Moriards, 171, and South Carolina had totally gone.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I picked them to win this game, and I never thought, in my wildest dreams, who you say, and that about the run game.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's really impressive what they did on the ground, I thought Xavier Robinson looked fantastic, Tory Blaylock.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's been the lead back, but he looked really sharp today, and a lot of it's obviously a credit to the offensive line.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: Could actually do something today.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: They looked really good, but here had a good day, even though we wasn't caught upon, and necessarily be that downfield, like, okay, we need you, and that's a good thing to have.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: You don't need to have those Heisman stat lines to win football games, Handoi.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: That was proven today, great, just great, collective effort from them, just balance, balance.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's the word I'm looking for.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: We've been here for a while.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: But the balance was really impressive in being able to find something against the solid defense, not like top of the SEC, but a good South Carolina defense obviously a lot of, a lot of dominance on their front seven and their first six games of the year.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't look as great today against this OU offense, which says something about how they played.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: Dylan Stewart went out on the first series, shedding him back once, wasn't able to make it back.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't really care if it was 85 bears.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't really care if it was just stuff care.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I didn't see him.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about it coming out of the kid's state game.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: The numbers look okay coming out of the kid's state game, but that was not the kind of performance like Florida State, he didn't put up.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: And things like that.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: It started from the third snap of the game.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: Second snap, offensively.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: Michael Pussus, he gets flagged for a holding.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: You're in the second and 20.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think there was a little murmur in the press box.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: So we're all kind of like, we know how this thing is.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then we were all wrong, why?
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: Tory Blaylock, 18 yard round, that was a bit of a bit of a article after the game said, that sent the tone that some of the Tory Blaylock said it in front of the suci.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: First off, you've got to go watch the suci interview either, Oklahoma suitors on outside.com, or who's YouTube page, John and Maria.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think what the lipid's gonna love this guy.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: The suci came out, we're like, hey, how'd it go?
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: And he immediately goes on like a one-minute rant about himself and how he did not play well enough and how he's very frustrated.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: He could tell he was like, ready to like get after it.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: That was like, hey man, you guys just ran for a hundred and so into what you are.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's like,
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: In general, I know that you didn't go good about it, but in that sense of the telling that you want, but you had Tory Blair like himself, Rush for 45 yards on four carries in a touchdown on that opening drive.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: When you add in the material five yarder on the first drive alone, Oklahoma had Rush for Moriards and they had Rush for, in both the Auburn game and the Texas game, Oklahoma's second scoring drive, it wasn't necessarily play like it was a garab.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's a new bounce went outside for 25 yards, didn't have a 10 yard touchdown run, and that was a scoring drive man
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's been 13 plays, 90 yards took five, 17 off the clock, six of those 13 plays were rushes for 50 six yards.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: So you will get it on the first two drives of the two touchdown drives, excuse me, I'm the game for Oklahoma.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: They had rushed for more than either of their SEC games individually and you slap those two together and Oklahoma already had more rushing yards.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: So at any point in SEC play this year.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I thought material as far as when he kept the ball and just took it I thought he was a lot more decisive He didn't put up gotty rushing numbers by any means.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: What does he've fortune?
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's about what I expected But he was a lot more decisive today figured out like okay, I should not take that hit.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: I should slide here I thought that he was a lot more comfortable.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's the product of a full week of practice.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: I know that material doesn't want to say that.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't want to make excuses for what happened against Texas, but you could tell that that was just so much a lesson that rust.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: Even if he had some dicey throws, he was not perfect today.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: There was that one of the third quarter that should have been picked.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: His throws today were the kind of throw.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: So the interceptions he had thrown today has been a lot of missing high into the ride and things like that.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: That what I thought was, hey, he was pushing it down field on a big third down.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: That was not in deep in his own end.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought it took a good play anyway for Safeline to dive and kind of tip it.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: Could they have caught it?
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but that was one where you're like, ill advice throw maybe, but at least it was then having to make a play on it.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: It was supposed to like, I think behind it had two interceptions last week where he'd, it was just thrown, all he was like, catch it in it.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: The big thing is no other turnover's welcome was the plus to the turnover Which bread even kind of like jokes about he's like hey, nice to see that type thing I thought that was huge and they didn't need to because you finally got so it Can you imagine if they had run like this against Auburn or against Michigan even?
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: I know that they had the the long drive there at the end But if they had run but this kind of consistency those two games would have been totally different in in just way more cup of vocal as well
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's good to see Xavier Robinson especially come to life because we were kind of wondering like what's going on with him?
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: Where his Xavier Robinson been?
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: He was awesome against Alabama, the back half of the season he was really good last year.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: And he comes back in today and looks fantastic.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's someone that we talked about on the podcast during the week.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's someone that can catch short passes, be an asset, and not the run game but kind of that intermediate short range.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: Um, as a target for material, I think that's helpful to have adds another element to this offense.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, we've seen Blaylock, he's looked good, he's shown flashes, I mean, even against Texas, he had a couple runs for about 10 yards, looked like he was a solid back, he just couldn't get the blocking.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: Those two ran well, got the blocking today, and you saw the result.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it's really big too.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: We on radio, we talked to Randy Anderson, a ton, and he is always really a pinch of throwing him back, obviously.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: Without being too overly critical, he's basically said that in Tory playlock, we asked him on Monday, like, how hard is it just to build a rhythm when you're in from one drive and out, things like that?
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: He, to his credit, was just like, I just got to be better, but Rodney Anderson, he talks about it all the time.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's really, really hard as a running back to field the, hey, how is the defensive line coming down and trying to knock things off?
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: How's the offensive line at all?
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: They're angles, proper, and things like that.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's really hard to get a feel for that when you go,
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: One drive-in, then you might not touch the ball for another quarter.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: It really feels like Oklahoma is able to just say, we're going to pair down this running back rotation.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be Xavier Robinson and Tori Blay.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like, Tori or one A, Xavier or one B, sprinkle the material in there.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: Materials didn't have to run the ball 20 times or anything close to that.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: We saw Taylor Tated right at the end.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: We saw Jayden not right at the end, but Tated being so banged up.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't be surprised if they maybe looked to see.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, if you could be a plus sure, but it is that a guy that might
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: Red shirt or not, I don't know because he's a young guy still.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: Jvontay Barnes, I think Jvontay Barnes is going to try and red shirt and maybe transfer to you.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I know that Brits and the Hammie, we saw no Jvontay Barnes, I know Kindle Dolby as well.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: He was the latest to the injury report, think it's the same deal there.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think that you just saw Blaylock and Robin's gotten to a rhythm, the offensive line, moving the pile the right way.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: And even credit to I thought Kate and Helms, who had struggled at time, blocking early, that he was good today.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: Jerry and Canick was doing enough, and they weren't asking Jerry and Canick to be the guy that Tory Blaylock's having to run behind.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: I just thought that like,
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: Great game plan for a bit.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: Our bot cool great work from I don't know if it was Bribble's going to be like hey, can we tweak this a little bit but the defensive game plan was really good There weren't any moments for like the end of the half wasn't great But I didn't think it was like mismanaged I thought it was just penalties stuff like I thought it was like a really really clean game There was one time out early in the third quarter
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: because of a sub-late type thing that Brett Metables was immediately talking to Kevin Wilson and Kevin Wilson was keeping it through.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was just like a very calm, Oklahoma side-bind today, which is usually the sign of two coaches that had really good game plans and know that they had outmatched an out-foxing B-ring today.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and I want to really like you mentioned Helms.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think he had a really good game.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: Dr. Michael Carter, this isn't going to show up in the stat sheet, he had an
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: awesome block.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think that was in the third quarter.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember exactly a win, but that was amazing.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like a lot of players with Keyantes out, Javante being out a lot of players stepped up today.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: That was necessary Javante Gibson starting to get into a little bit more of a rhythm with Oklahoma.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the depth was on display.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't, we've seen a lot of defensive depth this year.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not as much on the offensive side just because the receivers happen good.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: The sooner or later you don't need to see anybody else in this asseroly canic was a star for the first four games didn't really need to see Helms Can't huggins any of those guys Seeing some of that offensive depth, I think that was very promising Yeah, and I think that I thought Satan today he finished semichaches for 73 in the touchdown
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't like, oh my gosh, this is like a huge, he's bus stop at 50 yards, but just the simple stuff, like he's coming toward the sideline, and just the field will turn back in and really wrong foot some of the South Carolina D.B.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's Giovanni Gibson, you look at it.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: And Karsten, if I just told you five catches 24 yards, you might be like, hold on, what's that?
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: He was targeted.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: on six occasions.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, caught five of them.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: One of them was taken off the board because it was a catch and it was the first down catch, but it was right at the stick, so it was a passenger front, he bought through a passenger ferrets and that gave Oklahoma more yard and so they wiped that away.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: Three of his five catches.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: were first stands.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_01]: You look at it.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's a three-yard grab on third and two.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_01]: A seven-yard grab on the dot on third and seven and a five-yard grab on the dot on second and five physical pound.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was really important.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: He kind of took just slotted in, perfectly, for Cantas Lewis.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: Cantas, we didn't play today.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: A guy who's been a third-down target from a tier.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: He, uh, I thought that he like bit that perfectly.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: And that gave Oklahoma enough when he'd play that with the running game and in
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think gold star for the offensive, I was really, really pleased to get it.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: South Carolina, they're like 60s of the country, yards per carry, 73rd coming into this in Russian defense.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_01]: They also don't have played.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: five conference teams.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is they've coals looking on it not to the end of the year.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I know Climps is not going to help juice their numbers or anything like that, but it's a team that's played a bunch of SEC games so far.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, it was definitely impressive.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think coming to your point about Javani, he talked about how how needed is to play in an SEC road game.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: He played against Arkansas on the road while he was at Pine Bluff, but
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: Playing for an SEC team, in a game that he knows is going to be competitive.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_00]: He talked about how different that is, and his role is obviously a lot different than he was at Pine Bluff.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: That wasn't a very good football team.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_00]: He was kind of their offense.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: Here it's kind of finding that role of those short passes for first downs.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's a big body with good hands.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't need to be that a thousand-yard receiver.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_00]: He needs to be someone that can move the ball.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: Today, prove that he can really do that even if his numbers, what five or twenty-four
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: Not eye-popping, not flashing, not sexy, but those are good numbers when you really look into what those catches were.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and they were big players, like just telling it like big, big plays, then you go over to the defense and it's hard to even highlight one person for big plays.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: You had Grace and Holtton who basically ended a drive.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: That was, I felt really bad for Grace and Holtton because he had a really big pressure and then a really big sack.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: Those two plays preceded
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: all the hijinks that really really got going in the at the end of the second quarter so it was kind of lost because the punt that came after that was when the Elijah Thomas play happened then you have Taylor Wein like he has the interception on the fake punt he finished with the four tackles two tackles for last there was the moment where he like perfectly plays the speed option right at the end of the first quarter starting the second quarter I think it was
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: That was then third down play that punt and an Oklahoma marchers down the field.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: That was their big long touchdown drive there So if that like all of these moments that come up came up in big moments, it was like you said Really they compliment each other that they played good on both sides of the ball and
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: and even with Ginger Williams going down, it was Eli Bowen, Portland, Geolary, look good, wasn't really a bunch of moments of a misstop that the big flag downfield was a Michael Bowenowski, that it was almost like the ball was under throne, and he made cut, if he had just turned around hard to kill him for that, but that'll be what they'll teach up, and I'm so the two pass referred to as the end, so our plant was like, yeah, but if you're a head around, I'd prefer that than the touchdown.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I thought it was pretty good.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: No, the secondary was good.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think every facet of the defense was good today, and like you said it's We'd be here a long time if we just listed everybody who looked really good today on the defense.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Kip Lewis was great I thought you was a standout.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: Gillary kind of he's met some resistance now.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: I mean facing Cam Coleman
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: didn't play a lot last week versus Texans because he if I bow and got more I believe But he looked good.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he had a lot of really good hits just every not everyone but across the board It was pretty pretty consistent on the defensive end and I thought the way they defended on an arm like when or a sellers That was the biggest question work I had with the OU defense because they faced archmaning jacks and Arnold guys with potential Bryce Underwood of course
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: they hadn't seen someone that's proven likely to resellers that at this point we pretty well know that guy is going to be a first round pick in the NFL draft he is that good and even if his weapons around him aren't just amazing it's still a dang good quarterback that you have to take care of and I thought the secondary really did a good job big bounce back for a long third down held South line a third of three of fifteen they were four of seven forked down and Brett then most did come in and basically he was like
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: Listen, there's a bunch of little technical stuff on a lot of those 4th down, so I'm not happy with Kindle Daniels had raised his hand that like we had said earlier, and said I was like on the rush, but he's like, the effort was always there, the balance back, but just the poised and the tally was there, and again, any time you go and do a conference game and hold the opponent to 224 yards, I don't think it's going to be a too big of a big complaint, they didn't get bit by any special teams, I thought that.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: Outside of the penalty, they kind of won the special teams battle, even the one good puck return that South Carolina was able to get on the board.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: That was that into the half situation, David Stone, who put a big tackle there.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: You Elijah Thomas got it back because of the job at your pooch punt late that he died on the one yard line, turned into the safety that was last score this game.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: And then the two massive ones, I thought, first stop, Taylor
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: just drop-in-backing, being aware of the fake punt, easy interception, and then the other side of it was, John material, didn't throw that interception like we said.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: Immediately after it sets up a 55-yard vehicle, and I said this is a joke on Twitter.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: This season could have really well, not really, like it doesn't really matter what the season is.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: This is about, this is a Tate Sandale tweet.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma can build around Tate Sandale in 2026, and I believe that, because the young man goes out there just bangs in 55-yarders for fun.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, he has, he missed his first ever kick as a sooner against Michigan and really nerfed.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: So at this point, we can just feel like that is clearly nerfed because he is banging.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I almost feel a little bad for Austin Welch's the other leg that they got out of a portal.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's only kicked one field goal and I don't think he's going to kick anymore this year just because of how good Sandell's been.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, he was good at UTSA.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's different to do this at William's Bryce Stadium in the heat with the fan screaming at you.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: He looks really dang good.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: I predicted this is my hot take for the year that he would win the groza war It's looking it's not out of the cards at this point.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know it's a card really dang good But yeah, he's he's fantastic.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: Not another card's Grayson Miller did hurt his right guy Can't see today, but he got it back.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: He had a really really good punt how long did that last punt end up being for Grayson Miller
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: 50 50 yard pun that that'll do for that and that was the one that put them like within the fire Yeah, yeah, that was the one that like really really pinned So we're right and it'll come up just dictate it again They came on the road and they emptied the stadium by the end of the third quarter I feel bad for our old pal Shane Beamer there were a lot of you know this well more than a lot of fire my Truly a lot of fire Shane Beamer as I think that Shane Beamer
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: kind of war pretty long fade.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: I would be shocked if Shane Beaver's not trying to work his way to Virginia Tech because I think he kind of knows, hey, might be time to head back home a little bit.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_00]: You start to wonder especially with this was supposed to be a really day and good year for South Carolina.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: If they didn't make the playoff at least make like the citrus bowl, something like that, finish similarly to what they did last year.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they were one of the hottest teams in college football by the end of last season and it's really
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: It is shocking to see how inept they are on offense right now with the guy like La Nura Sellers.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: I still think beamers are dang good coach.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think she was got to go and I think he will soon.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it's going to be tomorrow next week, but I think he's gone.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: Shane was asking his like he does like the coach you show on the field and he kind of snap his ass right like.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: Do you guys go to Hitchie's like, brother, I just did on some day if I might open the line coach, like what are you going to do?
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, it'll be interesting to see here, but I thought still, uh, not, I don't think Oklahoma was quite in the spot that's how Toronto was in this game last year.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_01]: They were three and three, all that's, again, it's, it's five and one.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: I know that every loss to, if it comes to Texas feels like the world has imploded, no, that's stuff.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: It was bad week last week, about 3rd quarter, really.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: They rebounded it, and here's the key now.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: Can they build off this Rashi attack?
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: Ole Miss, Georgia ran up and down the field on Ole Miss.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's a Rebels team coming to Norman, trying to bounce back off a loss.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: Probably won't be the top five Ole Miss Rebels, obviously, after losing to Georgia.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: But now it becomes, I think that this is probably the best road win of Brent Minibles career.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think I was looking to either Auburn last year or in 222, going to Iowa State,
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: really good rebound after- I think these guys are better than operas.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I think this team, especially this was kind of like the crossroads where the Auburn last year was already a little bit hinky and weird and you already had a map.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: Neither one of them top 25 teams or anything like that, but I thought this was a really really good and the way it happened to it, it wasn't just that they needed a pick six or anything like that.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: It was that yeah, but by the time that Oklahoma re-established themselves, I went back up to scores.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: The game was like, it was a bucket.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty much over it was just hey, avoid the big turnover, put one more in the end zone.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: They did that and I thought it was poised, it was mature, it looked calm, it looked in control.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: Very rarely are you just gonna totally totally put out you know 50 to three or something crazy massive like that I thought this was like it's good of a an Okuma team still growing still trying to build I think they took a step forward on both sides of the ball today
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: They did it, and I mean, it's always a good sign of wit and new powers coming in in an SEC game.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: That means you're doing something right.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_00]: Have a big enough lead, late in the game.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like you said, I mean, there's no atmosphere in this conference that's easy to win at.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_00]: It looked pretty dang easy today, and that's a testament to how this team played from top to bottom.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: Important there.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: Just reminding people, Oklahoma would like to maintain Michael Hawkins Jr's red shirt and I'd feel like a transition shirt just because like they burned it last year.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: They'd like to keep it this year.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: And so there was the one moment where the helmet popped out for Trumpeteer, Hawkins was like ready to go in and I was like, I don't know, we got to sit and look over at him.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: The hand it off, he played the Bopup duty.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: Hawkins, like, it's like something serious and they need to like say the season.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be Hawkins if they can, if it's just a play where they're going to hand the ball out.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's probably going to be new about trying to maintain that red shirt because Hawkins is now played in what two games, three games, temple, this, uh, can't say, not just the two games, temple, can't stay.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_00]: I guess he didn't play against Texas.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: I, can you tell?
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: We, we've got up and drove in very, very early there, but yeah, that's something there, uh, but otherwise, uh,
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that it was really, really strong performance rolls into another big one.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_01]: They're all huge to the rest of the way, obviously.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: But if you had said, going back to the time of the material injury, that you could be one and one coming through Texas and South Carolina, and have a chance to be seven and one at the end of the night next Saturday by the time that Ole Miss comes, 11 A.M.A.M.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: you see.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think everyone just blind the way to said, yeah, we'll take it and really care how it comes.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's, uh,
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: Everything changes the week the week all that stuff, but I really really really saw that for today No, totally.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean blindly you say one-in-one.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: I mean maybe that implies a win against Texas and a lost against South Carolina Which I think sooner fans would be more happy about that rightfully so.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean big rivalry with UT but
- 30:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's just crazy to me that they can go from looking so bad one week to so good one week or the next week.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think sooner fans have got to be happy with the response shows that they can win the rest any of the rest of these games even if they might not be favored.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, five really good football teams still would come.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be interesting.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_00]: They could win them all.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_00]: They could lose them all.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of different outcomes but
- 31:00[SPEAKER_00]: Today's win proves that they belong and they should at least stay on the hunt for the time being assuming they don't lay an egg against Ole Miss.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: It resets the foundation for like, okay, this is the worst-year run game should look because like now we've seen that you can do this now you need to go out there
- 31:17[SPEAKER_01]: improve on it and improve on it and improve on it and that that's a really good song because coming out of the kid state text game was kind of like I don't know if the run gives just ever going to happen this year and we've seen it happen now in a really big way today that is massive and that's going to be necessary if you want to get to the place that you want to be by the end of the year but that'll do it here for us.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: How did you like Williams Royce our first trap go out I like South Carolina a lot of
- 31:38[SPEAKER_01]: a lot like the state I've been to Charleston once had never come through here and joined the Charlotte it was easy right in here I like this setup it's a pretty nice state it's not like the biggest thing in the world and I know that they weren't as Jews but like they gave it a good college try early before Oklahoma 12 80 atmosphere here.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm pretty impressed with William's prize stadium.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: A little bit on the older side, but it's a good place to watch a game.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, 4 and 11, 45 a.m. kick or 12, excuse me, or on Eastern Time.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_00]: 1245 kick off with its struggling team.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_00]: I was pretty impressed with the fans her now about 20 minutes before the game it was sparse.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_00]: By the time the game kicked off, it was a really good crowd.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_00]: The student section was popping.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: I was pretty impressed with
- 32:21[SPEAKER_00]: How engaged there were when the game was still close, obviously, like you said, that's the tanias hatched down, a lot of the students started trickling out, but really good fans here really enjoyed just covering a game here.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: It was, it was a good trekkin, uh, Oklahoma forced a lot of booze early, and you could see it half time the, the upper deck that was behind us across from this was, Phil turned out it was hot, I get it up there, but yeah, by the end of the third quarter, it was pretty much empty, and
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: As the South Carolina on the lottery's trying to play it's just oh use ringing down You know that Brent Vendibles really really enjoyed you obviously loves Oklahoma And I think he still likes getting one over on South Carolina all the clumps in South Carolina happenings But that'll do it for us we'll be back midweek pod on Wednesday breaking that everything the player said on Monday night preview Don't miss same with been our buckling Brent Vendibles previewed Ole Miss that'll be on Tuesday
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: For all those videos, Okomatsuners on SI.com, that is the website Okomatsuners on SI.com, head there.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: I wrote about the defense and that third quarter, how much different it was from the Texas game last week, was a little current game tonight.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: Plenty of stuff still up, Abers report card, who's stock report, my takeaways.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: All of Carson's videos, all of his highlights, watch out for those as they entertain you, touch cam, as as they've deemed did not watch out for us.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: We almost got it.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: We almost got it.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: And then everything out, all throughout Sunday, Monday, you know, there's your Okomatsuners on SI.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be back on the podcast on Wednesday, and then we'll be full for the worst back out of the weekend.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: Saturday, 11 a.m. back in Norman, the whole coming for Oklahoma, as the seniors take on the whole next.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: But that'll do it for Carson and I Brian Chapman, they should have to who Abraham Brady all hold that down back in the 405, but he's not an Abraham, but he just wins.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_01]: We will talk to you guys here on Wednesday.
