Transcript
- 0:02Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, well here only Alex Garrett
- 0:08Podcast Network. In my haste to be really opinionated about this emotional I still
- 0:14call Matt Gates a lizard man. I mean, I'm not taking that back.
- 0:18What he did yesterday was despicable. But you know what, you know
- 0:24what I think, Ret McCarthy or Speaker McCarthy, Former Speaker McCarthy, right,
- 0:29had to see this coming. When you make concessions the very first day
- 0:34you are a speaker, or even to get the votes to become speaker,
- 0:37where only one person in that house has to can make emotion to pretty much
- 0:44kick you out of the speakership, you don't see that being a problem.
- 0:49A few months later, the concessions that Speaker McCarthy made led to yesterday and
- 0:57led to Saturday when Gates actually started to file the motion, filed the motion,
- 1:03and the voting happened. And now we don't have a speaker. Forget
- 1:07this a week a week what they do go on vacation for a week.
- 1:11What is this? We have an interim acting speaker. Pat McHenry Well,
- 1:17I guess slammed the gabble down after closing session and frustration because he doesn't want
- 1:23the position. But my thing is a Gates is an idiot. B I
- 1:30didn't really extrapolate how this all came about because maybe you don't know. Maybe
- 1:34Zach Miller is right. I needed to educate people more that this was brewing
- 1:40in January. I would say Saturday, but this was brewing back in January.
- 1:44Fifteen rounds to begin with to get McCarthy elected, and the concessions he
- 1:51made, the biggest one being only one, not a majority, not even
- 1:55a small minority. One person in the House vote him out or file emotion
- 2:02to get out of everybody else on board to vote him out. But that's
- 2:07a lot of power for one person of a what four hundred plus members of
- 2:13Congress, that's a lot of power. So Speaker, former Speaker McCarthy,
- 2:23you then complained yesterday, why wasn't this the majority? Why was that you
- 2:27allowed one person when you made that concession? It didn't have to be Matt
- 2:31Gates. It just happened to be mac Gates because he's just out for himself.
- 2:39It didn't have to be Gates, but it of course would be him
- 2:43because he's had issues with McCarthy for a long time. But but to then
- 2:52complain, hey, why didn't a majority save me? Well, why do
- 2:54you allow one person even make a motion to do all of this? Why
- 2:59did you concede so much? And I feel for Speaker McCarthy because I think
- 3:05he was trying to do the right thing here by going across the aisle and
- 3:07averting a government shutdown. As I said yesterday, American government workers are Americans
- 3:15and their people too, and McCarthy knew the drasticness of a government shutdown,
- 3:23so they averted it. But then to go on at seven thirty last night
- 3:28and then complained about, well, why didn't you know? Why wasn't this
- 3:30done a majority in this and the other and why didn't the House democrats?
- 3:35House Democrats don't like you, dude, They don't want They probably liked the
- 3:39ships in your back by the Republican Party? Are you kidding me? And
- 3:44then you complain about the minority versus majority, wrote, well, look again,
- 3:47this concession that was made in January has led to this. And then
- 3:52my final point before I signed off for UH today on the one up feature
- 3:57anyway, I now see a if not immediate assuon resignation of McCarthy. I
- 4:11see him resigning. How can you sit at the lunch table with fellow Republicans,
- 4:16a lot of them who probably voted you out. How could you even
- 4:19go to the house cafeteria the same ever again? And then to be from
- 4:28our perspective, the onlooker's perspective, embarrassed the way that you know, being
- 4:33voted out as speaker is an embarrassing thing, especially when your first speaker ever
- 4:38to be voted out has to be an angry feeling, and the optics of
- 4:45it is it's embarrassing, And it's also embarrassing on Gates's part. And I
- 4:51think he's going to be hopefully something done with him too for even floating this
- 4:58idea, for it to be a reality. But now you're seeing calls for
- 5:03Trump, you're seeing calls for Scalise, you're seeing calls for Jordan. I
- 5:09just do not see you. And I'm gonna make this prediction before and I
- 5:12don't think anybody else has yet, I'm gonna make this prediction. Kevin McCarthy
- 5:17will not be a congress member congressman at all in the near future. He
- 5:23may very well resign, and I think I just can't see him staying on
- 5:31to partake in the vote to replace him. I just cannot see it.
- 5:38But imagine if all this was a push against Trump as speaker, an idea
- 5:43he himself has floated, by the way, that would be even more chaotic
- 5:47in the House, be a media circus. Forget about the New York trial
- 5:51going on right now, where the judge is smiling, be a New Yorker.
- 5:56It'd be a circus. If he decided if he got nominated and elected
- 6:00as Speaker of the House, albeit he might have some great ideas to inject
- 6:05into the House, it'd be a circus. But I only can say this,
- 6:15Kevin McCarthy reap what he showed when he conceded to having one member of
- 6:19Congress, any one of them, be able to make the motion to kick
- 6:25him out of speaker. And though it's under really awful premise of oh my
- 6:32god, by partisanship, what a terrible idea. Oh my god, working
- 6:35with the Democrats across the island get a deal. Don What a terrible idea
- 6:42is it? Though? Was it? Though? That's the hill pun intended
- 6:49that this faction of Republicans that wanted macarthy out are going to die on That
- 6:54means they don't want by partisanship, you understand that right. And without by
- 6:58partisanship, how can the government function? All right, I'm done for now.
- 7:03I got a cool off a little bit. We'll be back at some
- 7:05point on the Alex Garret podcast Network. Thanks for listening. Continue to do

- 7:35you soon.
