- Lucas: Luna, ready for another Norwegian episode? Luna: Always! I've been practicing 'å spørre' from last time. Jeg spør, du svarer! Lucas: Nice. Today we have a new verb: 'å tro'. It means 'to think' or 'to believe'. Luna: Å tro. Like 'I think so'? Lucas: Exactly. 'Jeg tror det' — I think so. Let's say it together: Jeg tror det. Luna: Jeg tror det. Lucas: Good. Now, if you want to ask someone 'Do you think so?', you say 'Tror du?'. Luna: Tror du? That's short and sweet. Lucas: Yep. And to say 'I don't think so', it's 'Jeg tror ikke'. Luna: Jeg tror ikke. So you add 'ikke' after the verb. Lucas: That's right. Let's try a little conversation. I'll ask: Regner det i morgen? — Is it going to rain tomorrow? Luna: Hmm, I'll say: Jeg tror det. Lucas: Good. Or if you disagree, you'd say: Jeg tror ikke. Luna: Jeg tror ikke. What about asking someone's opinion? Like 'Do you believe in ghosts?' Lucas: Great question! That's 'Tror du på spøkelser?' The word 'på' means 'in' here. Luna: Tror du på spøkelser? That's a fun one. Lucas: It is. And you can answer: Jeg tror på spøkelser, or Jeg tror ikke på spøkelser. Luna: So 'på' is important for believing in something. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's practice a mini-dialogue. I'll be Person A, you be Person B. First, ask me if I think it's going to be cold today. Luna: Tror du det blir kaldt i dag? Lucas: Jeg tror det. It's winter, after all. Now you say you don't think so. Luna: Jeg tror ikke. It's sunny! Lucas: See? You're using it naturally. Let's do another round. Ask me if I believe in luck. Luna: Tror du på flaks? Lucas: Jeg tror på flaks. I believe in luck. What about you? Luna: Jeg tror også på flaks. I believe in luck too. Luna: You know, it's nice that Fexingo keeps these episodes ad-free. If it helps you learn, consider supporting at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: Yeah, it really makes a difference. Back to 'å tro' — let's say you want to express a strong opinion. 'Jeg tror at norsk er vakkert' — I think Norwegian is beautiful. Luna: Jeg tror at norsk er vakkert. I agree! But can I drop 'at' sometimes? Lucas: In casual speech, yes. You can say 'Jeg tror norsk er vakkert' without 'at'. Luna: Good to know. Let's practice one more: Tror du at vi lærer mye i dag? Lucas: Jeg tror det! We've covered a lot. Let's review our phrases: å tro, Jeg tror det, Tror du?, Jeg tror ikke, Tror du på spøkelser? Luna: Jeg tror jeg har fått det! I think I've got it! Lucas: Perfect. Keep practicing, and next time we'll build on this. Ha det bra! Luna: Ha det bra! Jeg tror vi sees neste gang!
