- Lucas: Hej hej, and welcome back to Learn Swedish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. We're back for episode 166. Lucas, I was thinking about our last episode where we bought gloves. It's still cold outside, right? Lucas: Oh, totally. And when it's cold, you need more than just gloves. You need a scarf too. Luna: A scarf! Yes. I actually need one. So today, can we learn how to buy a scarf in Swedish? Lucas: Absolutely. Perfect timing. So, the Swedish word for scarf is 'halsduk'. Let's start with the basic phrase: 'Jag skulle vilja ha en halsduk.' Say it with me, Luna. Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en halsduk. Lucas: Yes. 'Jag skulle vilja ha en halsduk.' Means 'I would like a scarf.' Good. Now, what if you want to ask about colors? You can say: 'Vilken färg har ni?' Means 'What colors do you have?' Luna: Vilken färg har ni? So I can ask about colors. But what if I want a specific material, like wool? Lucas: Great question. You can say: 'Har ni en i ull?' Means 'Do you have one in wool?' Ull is wool. Luna: Har ni en i ull? So I can ask for a wool scarf. That's perfect because wool is warm. Lucas: Exactly. Now, after you choose one, you'll need to ask the price: 'Hur mycket kostar den?' Means 'How much does it cost?' Luna: Hur mycket kostar den? And then I can say 'Jag tar den här, tack' to buy it, right? Lucas: Yes! 'Jag tar den här, tack.' Means 'I'll take this one, thanks.' Perfect. Luna: Let me try a mini scene. So I walk into a store, I say: 'Jag skulle vilja ha en halsduk.' Then 'Vilken färg har ni?' The shopkeeper shows me colors. I see a blue one. Then I ask: 'Har ni en i ull?' They say yes. Then: 'Hur mycket kostar den?' They say 200 kronor. I say: 'Jag tar den här, tack.' How was that? Lucas: That was really good. You sounded like a natural. Let's go through the phrases once more. Listen and repeat after me: 'Jag skulle vilja ha en halsduk.' Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en halsduk. Lucas: 'Vilken färg har ni?' Luna: Vilken färg har ni? Lucas: 'Har ni en i ull?' Luna: Har ni en i ull? Lucas: 'Hur mycket kostar den?' Luna: Hur mycket kostar den? Lucas: 'Jag tar den här, tack.' Luna: Jag tar den här, tack. Lucas: Excellent. Now, you know, if Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with Swedish, and you want to support the show and keep it ad-free, you can buy us a coffee at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It's a small way to help us keep making episodes like this. Luna: Yeah, and every bit helps. We really appreciate our listeners. Okay, back to scarves. So if I want to say 'a blue scarf', how would I say that? Lucas: That would be 'en blå halsduk'. Remember, colors come after the noun? No, actually in Swedish, the color comes before the noun. So 'en blå halsduk'. Luna: En blå halsduk. Got it. And a red scarf would be 'en röd halsduk'? Lucas: Yes. And a green scarf is 'en grön halsduk'. Let's practice: 'Jag skulle vilja ha en grön halsduk.' Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en grön halsduk. So now I can specify the color too. This is great. Lucas: And if you want to say 'I'll take the blue one', you say 'Jag tar den blå.' Because 'den' is for common gender nouns like 'halsduk'. Luna: Jag tar den blå. So I can skip the noun once I've mentioned it. That's handy. Lucas: Exactly. So to recap today's phrases: 'Jag skulle vilja ha en halsduk', 'Vilken färg har ni?', 'Har ni en i ull?', 'Hur mycket kostar den?', and 'Jag tar den här, tack'. Also, 'en blå halsduk' and 'Jag tar den blå'. Luna: I feel ready to go scarf shopping. Let's do one more repetition. Lucas, you say the English, I say the Swedish. Lucas: Okay. 'I would like a scarf.' Luna: Jag skulle vilja ha en halsduk. Lucas: 'What colors do you have?' Luna: Vilken färg har ni? Lucas: 'Do you have one in wool?' Luna: Har ni en i ull? Lucas: 'How much does it cost?' Luna: Hur mycket kostar den? Lucas: 'I'll take this one, thanks.' Luna: Jag tar den här, tack. Lucas: Perfect. Now you can confidently buy a scarf in Swedish. Practice these phrases, and next time you're in a Swedish store, you'll be set. Luna: Tack så mycket for this episode, Lucas. See you all next time on Learn Swedish with Fexingo.
