- 0:29Speaker 1: Welcome to Table Talk here at the Philadelphia Sports Table
- 0:32Speaker 1: podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show
- 0:35Speaker 1: in the world, over twelve years strong.
- 0:37Speaker 2: We got a great discussion coming your way.
- 0:39Speaker 1: It is a post mortem from not only the NHL Draft,
- 0:42Speaker 1: but this Flyers draft and what Danny Brier and company
- 0:47Speaker 1: did this past week and weekend.
- 0:50Speaker 2: There are new.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Talent coming to the Philadelphia Flyers in the future and
- 0:54Speaker 1: joining us. We absolutely love having her on the show
- 0:58Speaker 1: from Broadstreet Hockey dot Com. She runs the ship over there.
- 1:01Speaker 1: She's been a good friend here at the podcast for
- 1:03Speaker 1: so many years. Jumping on, miss Kelly Hinkle, how you doing,
- 1:06Speaker 1: Kelly good?
- 1:08Speaker 3: Really, you've been on for twelve years?
- 1:09Speaker 2: That's sick for freaking twelve years. Yeah.
- 1:11Speaker 1: We celebrate our anniversary in April. So I can't believe
- 1:15Speaker 1: the guys are still doing this with me too. I honestly,
- 1:17Speaker 1: Lenn can't commit to anything in life, and the fact
- 1:20Speaker 1: that he's still been doing it for over twelve years
- 1:22Speaker 1: it's astonishing to me. But anyway, it's great to see
- 1:26Speaker 1: you and I gotta tell you too, Like before we
- 1:29Speaker 1: like really dive into the draft, I thought it was fantastic.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I was listening to the phl Y podcast as I
- 1:35Speaker 1: usually do. You Charlie O'Connor and Bill match You actually
- 1:40Speaker 1: were talking to Rick Tockett after the draft, you know,
- 1:43Speaker 1: talking about the draft process, what it was like, you know,
- 1:47Speaker 1: as they were evaluating players, and you guys had a
- 1:49Speaker 1: great interview. I would really really suggest that folks listen
- 1:52Speaker 1: to that phly Flyers podcast with the three of you,
- 1:57Speaker 1: or I should say the four of you including Rick Tockett.
- 1:59Speaker 2: How was the converse? Like, how was that talking to
- 2:01Speaker 2: the new Flyers head coach.
- 2:02Speaker 1: He hasn't done anything yet at this point, there's a
- 2:05Speaker 1: lot of optimism.
- 2:06Speaker 2: How was it?
- 2:08Speaker 3: It was really neat, actually, and it was kind of unexpected.
- 2:11Speaker 3: We were actually supposed to talk to Dan Hilfredy Oh okay, yeah,
- 2:15Speaker 3: and then last minute they were like, uh, never mind,
- 2:17Speaker 3: you're getting talking and we were like.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Neat, okay, fine, you guys. Yeah.
- 2:22Speaker 3: I mean, obviously it's it's cool to meet him. I'm
- 2:27Speaker 3: a big vibes person, and you know, to kind of
- 2:30Speaker 3: like get the vibe of what kind of guy he is.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I know that that people can be an authentic, but
- 2:35Speaker 3: I do kind of think it's difficult to kind of
- 2:38Speaker 3: completely shield who you are as a person when you're
- 2:41Speaker 3: talking to a group of strangers. Yeah, for twenty minutes,
- 2:46Speaker 3: and I got the sense that he is so no secret.
- 2:51Speaker 3: It's not who I would have chosen for the Flyer's
- 2:54Speaker 3: head coaching position, right, but you know, the second that
- 2:59Speaker 3: they made the decision, you know, behind it, I want
- 3:02Speaker 3: the Flyers to succeed. So you know number one Riptoka
- 3:05Speaker 3: fan here. But a lot of his answers I think
- 3:08Speaker 3: were a little bit more forward thinking than I think
- 3:12Speaker 3: you would imagine, a little bit more nuanced, Like he
- 3:18Speaker 3: seems like a very thoughtful guy. He seems to have
- 3:23Speaker 3: a lot of ideas about what he's going to do
- 3:26Speaker 3: with this roster and how he's going to maximize the
- 3:30Speaker 3: talent of you know, some of the guys that last
- 3:33Speaker 3: year didn't take the steps forward that we were hoping for,
- 3:36Speaker 3: like Tyson Forrester, Owen Tippett. We asked about them specifically
- 3:42Speaker 3: and it and it seems like he has put together
- 3:46Speaker 3: a team of assistant coaches that he is a lot
- 3:48Speaker 3: of faith in and also that it kind of seems
- 3:53Speaker 3: like he he thinks they're smarter than him, which I
- 3:56Speaker 3: feel like as a leader, like that's like a really
- 4:00Speaker 3: good way to build a team. Yes, to get a
- 4:02Speaker 3: bunch of people that you think are smarter than you.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Well, I don't know if it was your question, right,
- 4:07Speaker 1: I don't know if I forget if it was your
- 4:08Speaker 1: question or Charlie's question. When he was at like right
- 4:11Speaker 1: at the start of the interview, was asked about Danny
- 4:14Speaker 1: Brere and just like, you know, because they had known
- 4:17Speaker 1: each other and and and do have somewhat of a
- 4:19Speaker 1: pass together, and he was trying to describe Danny Brier
- 4:22Speaker 1: in that way where he's like, you know what, and
- 4:25Speaker 1: even himself as a as a coach, he's like, you
- 4:27Speaker 1: want to put people around you that know more than you,
- 4:30Speaker 1: you know, yea, and that are better than you at
- 4:32Speaker 1: certain things, you know. And I thought it was really
- 4:34Speaker 1: honest of him saying that. I thought I and that
- 4:37Speaker 1: gave me a lot of hope for the future, that
- 4:39Speaker 1: he's a real guy, that he's going to be able,
- 4:42Speaker 1: he's going to at the end.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Of the day, be relatable to these players.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think that like the worst thing you
- 4:49Speaker 3: can be as a leader is the type of person
- 4:54Speaker 3: that thinks you're the smartest guy in the room and
- 4:56Speaker 3: I do think that a lot of NHL head coaches
- 4:58Speaker 3: fall into that trap, particularly ones that have been around
- 5:01Speaker 3: for a long time. I mean a lot of people
- 5:05Speaker 3: generally fall into that trap. Whenever they get, you know,
- 5:08Speaker 3: a little bit of power, a little bit of authority,
- 5:10Speaker 3: they just start to assume that they know best and
- 5:12Speaker 3: they're the smartest guy in the room, and every decision
- 5:15Speaker 3: they make is infallible. And I really got the sense
- 5:17Speaker 3: that Rick Tucket is absolutely not that kind of guy.
- 5:22Speaker 3: And John Tortorella, while he was a nice guy, like
- 5:26Speaker 3: genuinely seemed like a nice man, I do think that
- 5:29Speaker 3: is particularly in his role as an NHL head coach.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I kind of got the vibe that he thought that
- 5:36Speaker 3: he was the smartest guy in the room.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Oh and he's putting his heels in and he wasn't
- 5:40Speaker 2: going anywhere.
- 5:42Speaker 3: That he made was the right one is the only
- 5:44Speaker 3: way to do it properly, And I think, I don't know,
- 5:48Speaker 3: I found it a bit refreshing to come away from
- 5:52Speaker 3: that chat with him thinking like, Okay, this guy probably
- 5:57Speaker 3: has some interesting ideas, and not only that, he's going
- 6:01Speaker 3: to be willing to listen to the people around him,
- 6:06Speaker 3: and you know, maybe implement some stuff that he didn't
- 6:08Speaker 3: implement in Vancouver or in Arizona, or as his time
- 6:13Speaker 3: as an assistant coach in Pittsburgh or whatever like it
- 6:15Speaker 3: just it made me feel better about the higher than
- 6:20Speaker 3: I did.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it made me as well.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Honestly, it's like I want I want this season to
- 6:27Speaker 1: get here sooner rather than later, just to see what
- 6:29Speaker 1: title she's really gonna be. But look, as we you know,
- 6:33Speaker 1: are reflecting on this NHL draft, this Flyers draft here, Kelly,
- 6:37Speaker 1: the last time that we talked was back in I
- 6:40Speaker 1: think like mid May, and I had asked you at
- 6:42Speaker 1: that point what your hope was for the Flyers at
- 6:44Speaker 1: the number six overall pick, and you know, let's just say,
- 6:47Speaker 1: you know you had mentioned and then I think the
- 6:50Speaker 1: consensus was leading up to the draft that we hoped
- 6:54Speaker 1: they would be able to pick.
- 6:55Speaker 2: A guy like James Hagen's.
- 6:57Speaker 1: He was and he was there at number six, and
- 7:01Speaker 1: they pressed on him for Porter Marton. So look, we've
- 7:04Speaker 1: heard what Danny Brieres had to say about Marton the decision.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Why we all know that I'm wondering as a as
- 7:12Speaker 1: as a fan, and as somebody who covers this team
- 7:14Speaker 1: as well, what are your thoughts about the pick and
- 7:17Speaker 1: what kind of player Porter Marton may be for this
- 7:20Speaker 1: team as part of this rebuild down the road.
- 7:24Speaker 3: So I'm pretty excited about it. Actually, I think that
- 7:28Speaker 3: it seemed like heading into the draft, the general consensus
- 7:34Speaker 3: seemed to be that Marton probably wouldn't be there, yeah
- 7:37Speaker 3: at six. I think that like most of the experts
- 7:42Speaker 3: assumed that he was going to be taken before six,
- 7:46Speaker 3: and then kind of like in the week leading up
- 7:48Speaker 3: to the draft, Anton Frondel seemed to like rock it
- 7:53Speaker 3: up to that third spot pretty quickly. Obviously you had
- 7:57Speaker 3: the Brady Martin thing happen. Yeah, you know, he was
- 8:00Speaker 3: taken before the Flyers could get to him. So I
- 8:04Speaker 3: think that, like I think, heading into the draft, I think,
- 8:09Speaker 3: at least in my mind, based on like conversations I
- 8:12Speaker 3: have with Charlie, reading mocks and things that the experts
- 8:16Speaker 3: had to say, it seemed to me like the best
- 8:19Speaker 3: case scenario for the Flyers was that they were going
- 8:21Speaker 3: to have the choice of one of like O'Brien, Porter
- 8:28Speaker 3: Martau or not Quartermarton sorry James Hagen's and then like
- 8:31Speaker 3: maybe Brady Martin, Like those were going to be the
- 8:34Speaker 3: ones that they were picking from, and in that situation,
- 8:37Speaker 3: I really wanted them to take Hagen's because he was
- 8:39Speaker 3: obviously the one out of those three that was going
- 8:42Speaker 3: to be the best.
- 8:43Speaker 2: And we're looking at the center position. Honestly, we're looking
- 8:45Speaker 2: at and.
- 8:46Speaker 3: You need centers, right, there's no denying that. But it
- 8:49Speaker 3: seems like Martone falling to them at six was a
- 8:53Speaker 3: little bit of kisnet because he's not Okay, he's a winger, yes,
- 8:56Speaker 3: but he also seems to be one of the best
- 9:01Speaker 3: playmakers and scorers in the draft. He seems to be
- 9:04Speaker 3: one of the guys that's closest to NHL ready yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 3: in this draft, which is cool. And we've been saying
- 9:10Speaker 3: all along that like, yeah, the Flyers have positional needs,
- 9:14Speaker 3: but they also just need talent. And I think that
- 9:19Speaker 3: I think that the wager is that Porter Martone is
- 9:23Speaker 3: a more of a sure bet on talent, high end talent,
- 9:28Speaker 3: than James Hagen's is. And then also on top of that,
- 9:33Speaker 3: the size thing. It was very clear if you look
- 9:35Speaker 3: at this draft, very clear that the Flyers were like,
- 9:39Speaker 3: we got to get bigger.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, we're going to get into that for sure.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, porter. Marton's a big boy. Yeah, James Hagans
- 9:46Speaker 3: is not. And I wonder if you know, trading for
- 9:49Speaker 3: Trevor Zegers the week before might have factored into that, Like, Okay,
- 9:52Speaker 3: now we have Zegris, he's kind of a small center.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Now we have Luchenko, he's kind of a small center.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Like they were probably thinking like, do we want to
- 9:59Speaker 3: add a third small center, like even though he's definitely
- 10:03Speaker 3: going to be good, or do we want to take
- 10:08Speaker 3: this big wing who's also really really good. Like it
- 10:11Speaker 3: would be one thing if you looked at Hagen's and
- 10:13Speaker 3: Martone and you know there was a real talent disparity
- 10:16Speaker 3: between them, but there's not like Martone is just as
- 10:20Speaker 3: good or arguably better of a player, right, you know,
- 10:25Speaker 3: as a whole than Hagen. So the Flyers got a
- 10:28Speaker 3: really good one. And I think it's it's exciting. I
- 10:31Speaker 3: believe he was a Flyers fan when he was a kid, yes,
- 10:34Speaker 3: which is kind of neat, Like that's always that's always
- 10:37Speaker 3: fun for me. You know, he's not from here, but
- 10:40Speaker 3: he was a Funds.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Fan talking about coming up to a game and stuff.
- 10:42Speaker 2: That was really cool.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really neat. I's kind of love when that
- 10:46Speaker 3: kind of stuff happened. So I think it was a
- 10:48Speaker 3: really good pick by Brier and his team. I think
- 10:52Speaker 3: it's a kid that we're going to be really excited
- 10:53Speaker 3: about once we start seeing him on the ice. Yeah,
- 10:57Speaker 3: and he seems you know, were the years last couple
- 11:01Speaker 3: we've had some I think anxiety about people wanting to
- 11:05Speaker 3: play here, right, I think he really wants to play here, So,
- 11:08Speaker 3: you know, that's also really good.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I think that was one of the best parts of
- 11:11Speaker 1: the draft in terms of the whole format, because the
- 11:13Speaker 1: NHL Draft format this.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Year, Holy Cow was really really rough. I was it
- 11:19Speaker 2: was so rough to get through. It really was.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm watching it on vacation and I'm like,
- 11:24Speaker 1: oh my gosh, I probably should be with my family here.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Kidding folks. I was with my family, but it was
- 11:30Speaker 2: it was rough. But that was that was like the best.
- 11:32Speaker 1: That story about how he and his family came up
- 11:34Speaker 1: to see a Flyers game, been a Flyers fan for
- 11:36Speaker 1: for his entire life.
- 11:37Speaker 2: It was great.
- 11:38Speaker 3: So quad Wall.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Exactly, Yes, absolutely.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Well, now let's get into their second first round pick,
- 11:48Speaker 1: Jack Nesbit.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Uh.
- 11:49Speaker 1: You know, I had this weird feeling that Nesbit was
- 11:51Speaker 1: going to be drafted by them. To be honest with you,
- 11:53Speaker 1: I thought it was going to be one of the
- 11:55Speaker 1: their later two picks. But then they they moved up.
- 12:00Speaker 1: They packaged those ladder first round picks giving them to
- 12:05Speaker 1: the Penguins, which I thought was interesting. Moved up to
- 12:08Speaker 1: did they move up to number eleven or twelve? I'm
- 12:10Speaker 1: forgetting it was twelve. Yeah, number twelve overall and has
- 12:14Speaker 1: been noted by our good friend Charlie O'Connor and other
- 12:17Speaker 1: NHL reporters and analysts there. There's definitely some big, big
- 12:20Speaker 1: upside with Nesbit, but his skating needs to improve. It's
- 12:25Speaker 1: probably the weakest aspect of his game. That's what everybody's
- 12:27Speaker 1: been talking about since he was picked by Danny Brier
- 12:31Speaker 1: and company. So what are your thoughts on how Jack
- 12:34Speaker 1: Nesbit coming to the Flyers in the first round, how
- 12:37Speaker 1: that actually played out, and your thoughts about the kind
- 12:39Speaker 1: of player he's going to be potentially for this team
- 12:41Speaker 1: down the road.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Yeah, so that was a really interesting one. So we
- 12:45Speaker 3: were at our draft party, the Broad Street Hockey slash
- 12:48Speaker 3: phl Wy draft party. We had a pretty sizable crowd
- 12:52Speaker 3: and when the trade went down, like people were excited,
- 12:57Speaker 3: like people were pretty amped.
- 12:59Speaker 2: The energy level got up to hear, the energy level
- 13:02Speaker 2: got up to here.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Yes, especially I think because of two players in particular
- 13:07Speaker 3: that we're still on the board at that time, Kashan
- 13:10Speaker 3: Ahison and Jack Smith, both defenseman, both kind of predicted
- 13:17Speaker 3: to be taken kind of in that you know, ten
- 13:19Speaker 3: to fourteen range, and I think people were kind of
- 13:23Speaker 3: excited about the prospect of getting one of those guys
- 13:25Speaker 3: because you know, the Flyers could use help on defense too.
- 13:29Speaker 3: And then they take nesbit and kind of like the
- 13:32Speaker 3: the air kind yeah, yeah, yeah, because and here's for
- 13:38Speaker 3: me too, because it kind of made me think back
- 13:41Speaker 3: to the the the Jet pick, because that was a
- 13:46Speaker 3: guy that was not on anyone's radar for the Flyers
- 13:50Speaker 3: at thirteen the night of the draft. It's not what
- 13:56Speaker 3: anyone expected, and when it happened, there was kind of
- 13:59Speaker 3: just this like palpable like, well, what the hell are
- 14:01Speaker 3: you doing? Like what are you doing? Yea, why are
- 14:04Speaker 3: you making this crazy reach? And to be fair, Jet
- 14:09Speaker 3: was kind of a pretty substantial reach, I think consensus
- 14:13Speaker 3: wise like that that was definitely a reach. However, in hindsight,
- 14:17Speaker 3: like obviously we don't know for sure yet, but right
- 14:21Speaker 3: now it seems like jet Luchenko is going to be
- 14:23Speaker 3: a pretty effective any shell hockey player. And I don't
- 14:27Speaker 3: feel bad about that pick at all at this point,
- 14:30Speaker 3: and I would be surprised if other people still felt
- 14:32Speaker 3: bad about it.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:35Speaker 3: So that said, I think that for most people, like
- 14:39Speaker 3: casual fans, casual draftwashers, the people who just look at
- 14:44Speaker 3: rankings and mocks and stuff like that, they saw that
- 14:48Speaker 3: pick and they were like, this is not a guy
- 14:51Speaker 3: that I had in my brain, Like, this is not
- 14:54Speaker 3: a guy that I thought we were going to take
- 14:56Speaker 3: at twelve, Like what are we doing? This is crazy?
- 15:00Speaker 3: And honestly, that's kind of what are we thinking? I
- 15:02Speaker 3: was like, what are we doing? This is crazy? Like
- 15:04Speaker 3: why are we not taking Agisin like that? What's happening?
- 15:08Speaker 3: But then, you know, in the days following, I did
- 15:12Speaker 3: some reading and it seems like as far as as
- 15:18Speaker 3: far as like you know, like public draft people, like
- 15:22Speaker 3: you know, the the buttons, the prawn men's, like the wheelers,
- 15:26Speaker 3: like those kinds of guys that put out these mocks
- 15:28Speaker 3: over and over and over again, the ones that we
- 15:29Speaker 3: all consume most, it did seem like you said that
- 15:33Speaker 3: Nesbit was going to be kind of a late first
- 15:35Speaker 3: round guy. But when you kind of dug in more
- 15:40Speaker 3: to like Bob Mackenzie's ranking, which is more based on
- 15:44Speaker 3: what teams will actually do, it seems like Nesbit was
- 15:49Speaker 3: definitely ranked higher among league people, you know, the guys
- 15:55Speaker 3: making the picks he was. He was ranked higher amongst
- 15:59Speaker 3: those people that he was in the private rank or
- 16:02Speaker 3: the public rankings, like for example, it's Barry Trotz said
- 16:08Speaker 3: that they were trying to trade up into that range
- 16:11Speaker 3: and then the guy that they wanted to get was taken,
- 16:15Speaker 3: and so they stopped trying. And it kind of is
- 16:17Speaker 3: like assumed at this point that they were going to
- 16:18Speaker 3: take Nesbit ye if they were able to get into
- 16:20Speaker 3: that range. So I don't think it was as much
- 16:23Speaker 3: of a reach as people felt like it was. Night
- 16:26Speaker 3: of that said, it's definitely not a sure thing, but
- 16:32Speaker 3: his biggest problem seems to be skating, and the Flyers
- 16:36Speaker 3: have kind of proven that they can fix that, like
- 16:42Speaker 3: to a degree, Like Tyson Forster was a terrible skater
- 16:44Speaker 3: when they got it, they've fixed that pretty well. They
- 16:48Speaker 3: seem to be confident in their ability as an organization
- 16:52Speaker 3: to take a bad skater and make him into one
- 16:55Speaker 3: that's at least good enough to maximize his talent in
- 16:59Speaker 3: the NHL. So I think there's that part of it,
- 17:03Speaker 3: and then there's also like the obvious fact, like you
- 17:06Speaker 3: said at the beginning of this, the Flyers need centers.
- 17:09Speaker 3: They went into this draft. I think we all went
- 17:11Speaker 3: into this draft assuming that the top and targets were
- 17:15Speaker 3: going to be centers. So they obviously wanted to make
- 17:18Speaker 3: sure that they got out of that first round with
- 17:22Speaker 3: the guy that they wanted to get, yes, and that
- 17:25Speaker 3: was clearly Nesbit, probably because he's big. He's pretty big,
- 17:30Speaker 3: but he also seems to apparently have like a high
- 17:32Speaker 3: end skill set that's held back by the bad skating.
- 17:37Speaker 3: And if they can fix the skating, if that gamble
- 17:40Speaker 3: pays off for them, we could have a pretty solid
- 17:43Speaker 3: two C on our hands. That's good. The problem is
- 17:46Speaker 3: we still don't have a one S. A lot of
- 17:49Speaker 3: people Charlie O'Connor included, seemed to think that James Hagen's
- 17:52Speaker 3: was a shore fire one se. I think if he
- 17:55Speaker 3: was a sure fire one sea, like, would he have fallen?
- 17:59Speaker 3: Like you know what I mean? Like, why wouldn't somebody
- 18:02Speaker 3: else has taken him before he got to six. Like
- 18:05Speaker 3: that's kind of like my thinking on Hagen's Like I
- 18:07Speaker 3: wouldn't have been that if they took him, But I
- 18:11Speaker 3: am starting to doubt just how much of a sure
- 18:14Speaker 3: thing one see he is, given that you know, a
- 18:18Speaker 3: bunch of other teams passed on him as well, So
- 18:23Speaker 3: I think it's definitely a gamble. It definitely kind of
- 18:29Speaker 3: I think put a little bit of a damper on
- 18:32Speaker 3: the Flyer's first round draft for fans particularly, But I
- 18:37Speaker 3: don't know. At this point. I still trust Danny Brier
- 18:40Speaker 3: in this front office because I still have no reason
- 18:43Speaker 3: not to. So if this kid's a total bust, well
- 18:46Speaker 3: then we know that they made a bad pick. But
- 18:49Speaker 3: until he is, I'm going to believe that, like they
- 18:52Speaker 3: see something there and they think that they're going to
- 18:55Speaker 3: be able to get it out of him, and if
- 18:57Speaker 3: they do, then, you know, landing a really good two
- 19:00Speaker 3: see with the twelfth overall pick in a relatively weak
- 19:04Speaker 3: draft not a bad thing at all.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I agree, totally agree with you.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I I came away from this draft and we're going
- 19:09Speaker 1: to get into more of these Flyers picks. I came
- 19:14Speaker 1: away just good vibes. At the end of the day,
- 19:16Speaker 1: I really did. I came away from having good vibes
- 19:19Speaker 1: and knowing that there is a plan of action in place.
- 19:23Speaker 1: We haven't seen that plan of action in so long
- 19:26Speaker 1: as fans.
- 19:28Speaker 3: A clear plan, and it's like it's just so clear.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Every move they make you can like see it as
- 19:35Speaker 3: an incremental movement, movement forward in this ultimate plan, and yeah,
- 19:41Speaker 3: it just feels really good to know that, like finally
- 19:45Speaker 3: his organization. Will the plan work? Unclear? Not going to
- 19:50Speaker 3: know for a little while. However, there is a very
- 19:54Speaker 3: clear plan. And not only is there a plan, but
- 19:56Speaker 3: it's like a plan that if you think it through
- 19:58Speaker 3: to the end and work and it makes sense. Yes,
- 20:02Speaker 3: and the moves that they're making are moves that will
- 20:05Speaker 3: get us to that end. Hopefully it works. But right now, yeah,
- 20:12Speaker 3: right now, knowing that the plan is in place and
- 20:16Speaker 3: pretty much every single move that has been made has
- 20:20Speaker 3: been a win, Yeah, it's hard to like, it's hard
- 20:24Speaker 3: to not have faith in what they're doing.
- 20:26Speaker 2: And at this point, I think Flyers Nation as well.
- 20:28Speaker 1: That's the vibes I'm getting from the fan base, a
- 20:31Speaker 1: fan base that is very segmented, a fan base that
- 20:33Speaker 1: absolutely loves to be critical constantly of an organization, and
- 20:38Speaker 1: you really feel the majority of folks just kind of
- 20:40Speaker 1: gelling together after this draft to say, Okay, we're seeing
- 20:43Speaker 1: some good things here.
- 20:45Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, look.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Hey, we need to take a quick break here to
- 20:49Speaker 1: pay some bills. And when we get back, we got
- 20:51Speaker 1: more draft talk, got more flyers talk. Folks, stick around,
- 20:54Speaker 1: We'll be right back.
- 20:57Speaker 2: All right.
- 20:57Speaker 1: We are back with our good friend from Broadstreet hot
- 21:00Speaker 1: dot com, Kelly Hinkle. Search her out over on Blue Sky.
- 21:04Speaker 1: She's also on the Twitter slash x at Hanks and
- 21:08Speaker 1: again Broadstreet Hockey dot Com. Subscribe over there. They've got
- 21:11Speaker 1: a lot of great content and a lot of great
- 21:14Speaker 1: great Flyers podcast too. You got a Flyers podcast two
- 21:17Speaker 1: over there too with our good friend Ryan Gilbert and
- 21:20Speaker 1: uh yeah, doing good stuff, doing good stuff. All right,
- 21:24Speaker 1: keep talking about this draft here, because I thought that
- 21:28Speaker 1: Danny Brier was kind of surgical when it came to
- 21:30Speaker 1: the second round when they drafted defenseman. I'm gonna mess
- 21:33Speaker 1: his last name up because I constantly screw up names.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Carter Amico, did.
- 21:37Speaker 3: I say, Oh my god, I said it right.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I can't believe it.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I thought it was. I thought it was a really
- 21:43Speaker 1: shrewd trade. They traded down to get the number thirty
- 21:47Speaker 1: eight overall pick in the second round, moving back just
- 21:49Speaker 1: two spots. Then they turned their third round pick into
- 21:52Speaker 1: a late second rounder, jumping eleven spots in the process. Right,
- 21:56Speaker 1: So this move essentially gave them back the second rounder
- 21:59Speaker 1: that they give to get Trevor Zegress. And I guess
- 22:02Speaker 1: the conventional wisdom, Kelly was that if Amiko didn't have
- 22:07Speaker 1: that injury, likely would have been a first round pick. So,
- 22:10Speaker 1: I mean, what are your thoughts on the Amiko pick,
- 22:13Speaker 1: the first defenseman that they picked here in this twenty
- 22:16Speaker 1: twenty five draft.
- 22:18Speaker 3: I think it was, like you said, the move that
- 22:21Speaker 3: he made to just move down a little bit to
- 22:24Speaker 3: move up a lot later. Yeah, again, does another one
- 22:27Speaker 3: of those Danny Brier moves where you're like, okay, surgical, Yes,
- 22:31Speaker 3: he cooks a little bit, you know what I mean.
- 22:33Speaker 3: He does stuff that's like unexpectedly sneaky and good. So
- 22:39Speaker 3: that was that was cool just in and of itself.
- 22:41Speaker 3: But Amiko seems to be kind of the logical successor
- 22:47Speaker 3: to Rasmus or Salignin. Like he's very big, he's got
- 22:51Speaker 3: a mean streak. He's a defensive defenceman. He's not an
- 22:54Speaker 3: offense guy, and like you said, it was just that
- 22:58Speaker 3: knee injury that kept him out for most of last
- 23:02Speaker 3: season and as a result, he just fell out of
- 23:04Speaker 3: the first round. It's an interesting pick to me because again,
- 23:14Speaker 3: there seems to be a very clear agenda that would
- 23:21Speaker 3: suggest that when this team is competitive. So if this
- 23:25Speaker 3: is like if this is a Cup contending team in
- 23:28Speaker 3: like three years, I think there'll be a playoff team
- 23:32Speaker 3: before that. But like if we're talking like real Cup contention,
- 23:34Speaker 3: probably like three if all things go well, you would
- 23:39Speaker 3: hope that most of these kids are going to be
- 23:42Speaker 3: ready by then, particularly because again they drafted big boys
- 23:48Speaker 3: and so all of them are kind of physically ready
- 23:50Speaker 3: already for the NHL. They're all big enough, so it's
- 23:54Speaker 3: just a matter of developing the skill and you know,
- 23:57Speaker 3: getting up to NHL speed and all that kind of stuff.
- 24:01Speaker 3: It seems like they very clearly want to make sure
- 24:04Speaker 3: that around the skill guys that they're getting, and they
- 24:08Speaker 3: don't seem scared of small skill guys. Jentlu shan't go again.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Not very big. Nietsch cough, He's thick, but he's not big, right,
- 24:18Speaker 3: Trevor's negros obviously not big at all. Like they don't
- 24:21Speaker 3: seem scared of the idea of having small skill guys.
- 24:25Speaker 3: But also I think that, like the rest of the league,
- 24:29Speaker 3: they took a look at what the Florida Panthers do
- 24:31Speaker 3: in the playoffs and they're like, Okay, so when we're
- 24:35Speaker 3: really ready to get there, we're gonna need some dudes
- 24:38Speaker 3: that are willing to, you know, elbow the goalie in
- 24:42Speaker 3: the head or take out somebody's knees or you know,
- 24:45Speaker 3: whatever the case may be. Like, they obviously very clearly
- 24:48Speaker 3: think that they need a little bit of big and
- 24:50Speaker 3: a little bit of nasty, kind of in like the
- 24:55Speaker 3: mid range skill wise, and I think that Amico seems
- 24:59Speaker 3: to fit that bill perfectly. Like he's not just big
- 25:03Speaker 3: and mean, he's also got some skill. But I do
- 25:06Speaker 3: think that like they're looking down the line and Risto
- 25:11Speaker 3: will probably not be here, and then like you have
- 25:16Speaker 3: Hunter McDonald, but like, is he actually good? You know, unclear,
- 25:20Speaker 3: Like he's definitely big, right, is he actually good? I
- 25:23Speaker 3: don't know. Amico seems more like a shore fired bet
- 25:26Speaker 3: to be a guy that can stick in you know,
- 25:30Speaker 3: your bottom pairing in the NHL and bring that kind
- 25:33Speaker 3: of nastiness that it seems very clear that the league
- 25:37Speaker 3: has just decided collectively that we need to be dirty
- 25:42Speaker 3: as hell in the playoffs in order to win the
- 25:44Speaker 3: Stanley Cup. Hard to argue with a team doing it
- 25:48Speaker 3: twice in a row. But you know, you could also
- 25:51Speaker 3: just like call penalties, but I guess we're not going
- 25:53Speaker 3: to do that exactly. Yeah, So, I mean it just
- 25:57Speaker 3: seems again, like we said, like, there seems to be
- 26:00Speaker 3: a plan. There seems to be like in place the
- 26:03Speaker 3: idea of what this team needs to look at look
- 26:07Speaker 3: like at the end of this and I think that
- 26:09Speaker 3: a Mago fits that bill of just like we need
- 26:12Speaker 3: to be a little bit bigger and a little bit
- 26:13Speaker 3: tougher when we get to the portion of this rebuild
- 26:17Speaker 3: that involves us competing for a Stanley Cup.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it was.
- 26:22Speaker 1: It was such an interesting draft in so many different ways.
- 26:25Speaker 1: And I'm also wondering too, like, and I know it's
- 26:27Speaker 1: a general question, but I mean, are there any picks
- 26:29Speaker 1: from this draft that you really liked? I mean outside
- 26:32Speaker 1: of the draft picks that we've already talked about thus far,
- 26:34Speaker 1: maybe like really liked or maybe really disliked. I mean
- 26:37Speaker 1: another center they picked up in the second round was
- 26:41Speaker 1: mech Matthew Guard. You know, they also ended up getting
- 26:44Speaker 1: another center in the sixth round, Nathan Quinn. I mean,
- 26:47Speaker 1: are there any guys that you liked did not like
- 26:50Speaker 1: in terms of the pick where they were picked, or
- 26:52Speaker 1: what are your thoughts here.
- 26:55Speaker 3: I don't know that there were any that I actively disliked.
- 27:02Speaker 3: I know it at broad Street Hockey there were a
- 27:05Speaker 3: couple on Day two that kind of had the folks
- 27:10Speaker 3: that I consider experts in the draft kind of being
- 27:13Speaker 3: like kind I don't know about that. One one that
- 27:17Speaker 3: I think is universally seemed to be liked both by
- 27:22Speaker 3: the folks at broad Street Hockey and like Charlie Shane
- 27:25Speaker 3: Van Sagi Okay to be a guy that people are
- 27:30Speaker 3: pretty excited about. I know Charlie had.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Him second folks, just to let you know.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Yeah second, yeah, who plays I think for Michigan State.
- 27:37Speaker 3: I think so, yeah, Michigan State. I know Charlie had
- 27:41Speaker 3: him as one of the guys that he was hoping
- 27:43Speaker 3: the Flyers would be able to land. I think in
- 27:45Speaker 3: the late first round when we were thinking they we're
- 27:46Speaker 3: going to be picking twenty second thirty first, So he
- 27:51Speaker 3: seems like he's a lot of fun as a player,
- 27:56Speaker 3: so that'll be interesting. It's just I kind of like
- 28:01Speaker 3: it's hard for me to get super excited about draft
- 28:05Speaker 3: prospects like the second after they're drafted, you know what
- 28:09Speaker 3: I mean, just because like it's like it's like, you know,
- 28:13Speaker 3: in the weeks leading up to it, we can all
- 28:15Speaker 3: pretend that we know what these kids are going to be, right,
- 28:18Speaker 3: I don't know what these kids are going to be.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Like the only way you really know is, like, you know,
- 28:22Speaker 3: the Islanders know that in Matthew Schaeffer they got a
- 28:27Speaker 3: stud defenseman that they can build an entire defense around,
- 28:30Speaker 3: Like they know that.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Well, this is the part this is it's the draft.
- 28:36Speaker 3: It's like you don't know, right, it's some of these
- 28:39Speaker 3: kids are going to be busts. Yes, some of them
- 28:42Speaker 3: are going to turn into something. I don't know what's what,
- 28:45Speaker 3: but like I I just know that, Like if you
- 28:48Speaker 3: look at what the experts grading drafts, everyone gave the
- 28:53Speaker 3: Flyers an a a's A minuses. I think the lowest
- 28:56Speaker 3: I saw was a B plus. So it's it seems
- 29:00Speaker 3: pretty clear that the people who do this for a living.
- 29:02Speaker 3: The people who watch tape on these kids and really
- 29:05Speaker 3: study this stuff, they think Danny Brier did a great job.
- 29:09Speaker 3: So like, who am I to argue with them at
- 29:12Speaker 3: this stage of the game. You know, if if in
- 29:14Speaker 3: three years Shane van Sagi can't crack an NHL lineup,
- 29:18Speaker 3: then like maybe I could be like, ah, well that
- 29:20Speaker 3: was kind of a bad pick, wasn't it. Yeah, but
- 29:22Speaker 3: like right now seems good.
- 29:24Speaker 2: It does. Right now it does seem very good.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Yeah, this is one of those times I know that
- 29:28Speaker 3: you and I talk about this a lot. This is
- 29:29Speaker 3: one of those times we're as a fan, you can
- 29:32Speaker 3: choose to be optimistic and happy about what happened, or
- 29:36Speaker 3: you can choose to be negative and pessimistic and think
- 29:40Speaker 3: that they did a bad job. Because both of those
- 29:43Speaker 3: outcomes are equally likely as we sit here today, So like,
- 29:47Speaker 3: it's your choice. If you want to be excited about
- 29:49Speaker 3: what has happened, you can be or you can you know,
- 29:52Speaker 3: be a bummer about it because they didn't get James.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Hagen to happen exactly.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Well, it's a perfect segue into the next topic, you know,
- 29:59Speaker 1: as we're reflect here on the draft too, because you
- 30:02Speaker 1: know the I think the biggest theme, and I was
- 30:05Speaker 1: whether I was asking Madeline Campbell from Broad Street Hockey,
- 30:08Speaker 1: who came on talking to Charlie as well recently getting
- 30:12Speaker 1: his thoughts too about you know what we wanted the
- 30:15Speaker 1: theme to be from this Flyers draft. And I think
- 30:17Speaker 1: the biggest theme coming out of this draft is that
- 30:19Speaker 1: Danny Brier in the front office they wanted their prospects
- 30:23Speaker 1: to be a lot bigger, which is what we're we've
- 30:25Speaker 1: been talking about as well. So many of these draft
- 30:27Speaker 1: prospects are well over six feet two at this point here,
- 30:31Speaker 1: I mean, and who knows, maybe maybe some of these
- 30:33Speaker 1: kids will still continue to grow.
- 30:35Speaker 2: We don't know.
- 30:36Speaker 1: I mean, this draft was a defining moment for Danny Brier,
- 30:39Speaker 1: and I think we also have to realize that as well,
- 30:43Speaker 1: Like you were just saying, some of these picks are
- 30:45Speaker 1: going to come to fruition in various ways. Some may flop,
- 30:49Speaker 1: some may be better than we expected on draft night itself.
- 30:53Speaker 1: But the vibes that you're talking about, and and just
- 30:57Speaker 1: I guess to talk about it one more time before
- 30:58Speaker 1: we get to uh, Trevor Zagris, because I want I
- 31:01Speaker 1: wanted to talk about him, get your thoughts there, But
- 31:05Speaker 1: I mean, I guess, what are the vibes that you
- 31:08Speaker 1: now have after this draft? You know what this moment
- 31:11Speaker 1: actually means for this Flyers organization overall? I mean pretty
- 31:14Speaker 1: positive from what you're saying here.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's it's really hard for me to look
- 31:20Speaker 3: at what has happened over the past season and not
- 31:24Speaker 3: be excited about the future of this team, just because
- 31:28Speaker 3: while every single move might not have been the move
- 31:31Speaker 3: that I would make if I were GM of the Flyers,
- 31:35Speaker 3: I don't look at a single one of them as
- 31:37Speaker 3: objectively bad. Like there has not yet been a bad
- 31:41Speaker 3: move made by Danny Breer. Be it like a trade
- 31:44Speaker 3: where they're just getting rid of guys like Faribe and
- 31:47Speaker 3: frost yep trade where they're bringing in a guy like
- 31:49Speaker 3: you get Trevor's Negres for essentially Ryan Paling and that's it.
- 31:56Speaker 3: This draft again, Like, I think that the Flyers should
- 32:01Speaker 3: at this point always be prioritizing high end talent. They
- 32:05Speaker 3: obviously were prioritizing size, but also with talent, Like I
- 32:10Speaker 3: don't think they took anybody in the Brady Martin vain,
- 32:14Speaker 3: which is to say, a guy that is questionable on
- 32:19Speaker 3: the talent side of things, but definitely big and mean.
- 32:23Speaker 3: They didn't do any of that, Like they took guys
- 32:26Speaker 3: that they think are going to be good hockey players
- 32:29Speaker 3: that are also big, and that kind of prioritization I
- 32:33Speaker 3: think is important because in the past, I think the
- 32:36Speaker 3: Flyers had a tendency to just go big, Like I
- 32:40Speaker 3: always think back to the Samaran Like that pick was
- 32:44Speaker 3: insane start to finish. The only reason they took him
- 32:48Speaker 3: is because he was really really big, and we.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Saw what he did in the AHL at the Fantoms,
- 32:52Speaker 1: you know, we saw what they brought him up to
- 32:54Speaker 1: and just the lack of being able to really develop.
- 32:58Speaker 2: We saw it.
- 32:58Speaker 3: And he had, you know, a lot of injuries that
- 33:01Speaker 3: of course hamper him a lot. Thing you can do
- 33:03Speaker 3: about that. But at the end of the day, when
- 33:07Speaker 3: they made that pick on draft day, they were making
- 33:10Speaker 3: it simply because he was large, and that's not really
- 33:14Speaker 3: a good reason to draft anybody. But in this draft,
- 33:16Speaker 3: the Flyers seem to be prioritizing a combination of talent
- 33:21Speaker 3: and size, and I think that's good. And you really can't,
- 33:25Speaker 3: I mean, you really can't succeed in the NHL if
- 33:30Speaker 3: you're just small guys, and the Flyers have been like
- 33:34Speaker 3: I said, they don't seem to be scared of small
- 33:37Speaker 3: talented guys, and they've been going out and getting some
- 33:40Speaker 3: of these small talented guys. So yeah, eventually you are
- 33:44Speaker 3: going to have to fill in with some big dudes,
- 33:47Speaker 3: and they seem to take the approach that, like, okay,
- 33:50Speaker 3: rather than going out and finding like a big fourth
- 33:53Speaker 3: liner in free agency in two years that we can
- 33:57Speaker 3: use to plug a hole, maybe we draft and develop
- 34:01Speaker 3: some big guys that might also have some upside on skill.
- 34:04Speaker 3: And I think that that's a fine gamble to take. Yeah,
- 34:08Speaker 3: it's the theme for the team very very clearly was big. Yep,
- 34:13Speaker 3: every kid they took pretty much was big. I think
- 34:15Speaker 3: they only took one guy that was under six feet tall.
- 34:19Speaker 3: But like I said, I don't look at any of
- 34:21Speaker 3: those picks and see just big, which I think for
- 34:24Speaker 3: a fan like me that wants to see like the
- 34:28Speaker 3: exciting high end skill that the Flyers have been lacking
- 34:31Speaker 3: for so long, not a lot of these kids are
- 34:35Speaker 3: going to bring high end skill. But like, you're not
- 34:37Speaker 3: going to get a lot of high end skill in
- 34:39Speaker 3: the second round unless you get super lucky fires took
- 34:42Speaker 3: a bunch of kids in the second and third rounds
- 34:44Speaker 3: that are big and might be good, and I'll take it. Yeah.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Good vibes. Good vibes for sure, exactly, Kelly.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Before I let you go, you know, we'll end our
- 34:55Speaker 1: discussion by you know, diving into the Trevor Zagris pic,
- 34:59Speaker 1: which you know, we still haven't been able to talk
- 35:01Speaker 1: about on this podcast show because of our schedules and
- 35:03Speaker 1: vacations and things like that. But Danny Brier, I mean,
- 35:06Speaker 1: he also you know, took a big swing on Zagres,
- 35:09Speaker 1: acquiring him right before the draft, and it was kind
- 35:11Speaker 1: of nice to see Flyers Nation again kind of like
- 35:15Speaker 1: after this draft basically at a consensus with this trade
- 35:20Speaker 1: to say, you know what, this is a damn good move.
- 35:23Speaker 1: This is a really good move for the future.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Of the team.
- 35:26Speaker 1: I mean, for the most part, everybody has basically loved
- 35:29Speaker 1: it from what I've been reading. I mean, of course,
- 35:30Speaker 1: you have a few negative Nelly's here and there. What
- 35:33Speaker 1: did this move mean for the Flyers organization is we're
- 35:36Speaker 1: now looking to see, you know, how these pieces of
- 35:39Speaker 1: the rebuild are really trying to take shape like a
- 35:41Speaker 1: puzzle here.
- 35:41Speaker 2: What are your.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Thoughts, well, I think it was kind of like the
- 35:48Speaker 3: textbook move that I wanted to see from this off
- 35:52Speaker 3: this front office, because they do need top line talent. Yeah,
- 35:58Speaker 3: without question, specific one C. And it's really hard to
- 36:04Speaker 3: get those guys, Like those guys don't really get traded, Like,
- 36:07Speaker 3: no one's trading you, Nathan McKinnon, Right, no one's trading you,
- 36:10Speaker 3: Connor McDavid, Like you're not going to get the sure
- 36:14Speaker 3: thing guys in a trade. You can probably get one
- 36:19Speaker 3: at the tail end of his career in free agency.
- 36:22Speaker 3: That's one option, or you take a risk on a
- 36:28Speaker 3: reclamation project, which is exactly what Trevor Segras is. The
- 36:32Speaker 3: high end talent is unquestionably there. Like we saw it
- 36:38Speaker 3: for two It wasn't just like a one season aberration.
- 36:40Speaker 3: We saw it two seasons from him ye when he
- 36:42Speaker 3: was very young, that he can be a very very
- 36:46Speaker 3: good center in this league. The Ducks kind of fell
- 36:51Speaker 3: apart as an organization. Their coach is apparently a nightmare
- 36:56Speaker 3: like towards times ten, just like a terrible guy to
- 37:00Speaker 3: play for. They moved him to wing. I'm assuming because
- 37:05Speaker 3: of his size and he is not a winger, and
- 37:10Speaker 3: I think that the Flyers clearly believe that he is
- 37:12Speaker 3: a center. Like everything that they've said since they traded
- 37:15Speaker 3: for him was seemed to suggest to me that they
- 37:17Speaker 3: think this guy is a center. At the very least,
- 37:19Speaker 3: they're going to give him ever up every opportunity to
- 37:21Speaker 3: succeed at center. So this is the kind of move
- 37:25Speaker 3: where not only are you able to get a guy
- 37:30Speaker 3: that potentially could be the one see that you're looking for,
- 37:34Speaker 3: but you're able to get him for practically nothing because
- 37:38Speaker 3: you were willing to be patient and kind of outweight
- 37:43Speaker 3: the teams that you're dealing with, which which Breer has
- 37:46Speaker 3: done before. He did it with Scott Lawton. Yes, he
- 37:49Speaker 3: got more for Scott Lawton than I think the Bruins
- 37:51Speaker 3: got for brad mar Shamp.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's crazy, simply.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Because he was like, no, no, no, if you want
- 37:58Speaker 3: to give me a first overall or if you want
- 38:00Speaker 3: to give me a first round pick, you can have him,
- 38:02Speaker 3: but otherwise no other gms that might have been like
- 38:06Speaker 3: all right, I'll take the second. Brier was like now
- 38:07Speaker 3: I'm gonna wait, and he ended up getting what he wanted.
- 38:10Speaker 3: He like these Zebra's rumors have been around for at
- 38:13Speaker 3: least like a year. Right, We've been hearing about the
- 38:16Speaker 3: possibility of Zebras coming to the Flyers, and clearly Brier
- 38:21Speaker 3: was waiting and waiting and waiting for the moment at
- 38:24Speaker 3: which he could get him for Ryan Paling. Like listen,
- 38:29Speaker 3: no shade to Ryan Paling. I really liked him as
- 38:31Speaker 3: a player. He was a very effective and fun fourth
- 38:35Speaker 3: line center, but very clearly a fourth line center, like
- 38:39Speaker 3: not anything more than that.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Right, And you.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Traded him and a couple of late picks, which, as
- 38:46Speaker 3: you said, you ended up getting back one of them.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Yea for a guy that could potentially and probably more
- 38:54Speaker 3: than like a fifty percent shot at him becoming your
- 38:57Speaker 3: one seat for the next ten years because he's like
- 39:00Speaker 3: twenty four, you know what I mean. Like everything about
- 39:03Speaker 3: this move is good, and like you said, I didn't
- 39:07Speaker 3: see a single and this is really hard to come by.
- 39:10Speaker 3: I didn't see a single negative reaction to this trade
- 39:13Speaker 3: on social media, Like everybody was like oh okay, like yes,
- 39:18Speaker 3: that's that's that's very good. I mean, everything about it
- 39:21Speaker 3: is low risk. He's got one year left on his contract.
- 39:23Speaker 3: If this is a disaster, then you let.
- 39:26Speaker 2: Him there you go.
- 39:28Speaker 3: If it's like only a little bit good. You could
- 39:30Speaker 3: probably sign him for a pretty decent price and hope
- 39:32Speaker 3: that he still turns into the guy that you want
- 39:34Speaker 3: him to be. If it's really really good and you
- 39:37Speaker 3: have to pay him a lot of money, good problem
- 39:39Speaker 3: to have in my opinion. So there's there's just a
- 39:43Speaker 3: lot to like about that deal. I would love to
- 39:47Speaker 3: meet someone that didn't like it. I would just like
- 39:49Speaker 3: to hear the reasoning behind not liking it. But like
- 39:52Speaker 3: you said, it was one of those rare moments when
- 39:55Speaker 3: every single Flyers fan was like, hell, yes, this is awesome,
- 40:00Speaker 3: let's go.
- 40:01Speaker 1: And it shows what it shows what Danny Prayer has
- 40:04Speaker 1: been able to do thus far as the jam of
- 40:07Speaker 1: this team and organization. It really, it really is amazing.
