- 0:16If you could have a tail, would you have a tail?
- 0:19If it was like a prehensile tail so I could like grab stuff with.
- 0:22It like I'm talking like Goku. Like Goku.
- 0:25I don't know. I don't know what he has like a.
- 0:27Little monkey tail that can grab shit.
- 0:29What you're talking about? Yeah, that's what I'm talking
- 0:30about. What about?
- 0:31You get my hang. What about like a Navi tail?
- 0:35The Navi tail doesn't do anything unless you're the water
- 0:38one then it helps you to swim and I don't know what good that
- 0:41would do for me. But otherwise tail connect.
- 0:44To the animals, right? No, that's not with the tail.
- 0:47The tail doesn't do that. Shit.
- 0:49Oh, that's there. Could you?
- 0:49Could you use it for anything Way cool if.
- 0:53It if it was a prehensile tail you could use it, but if it
- 0:56wasn't it would be like being a dog.
- 0:58But could you use it for like jabbing?
- 1:01It's like a cat I could use. It to like hold a bat something.
- 1:04But could you use it to jab? Yeah, probably.
- 1:08I guess like a big boxing glove on the end of it.
- 1:11No, I don't think you want to do that for what I'm asking what?
- 1:15Are you talking about? I don't.
- 1:15Know what you're asking? Are you being welcome back to
- 1:20the show, everybody? We are your hosts, Nick.
- 1:23Oh, so so I am going there is some loud there is some loud
- 1:28noise coming from someone's mic. I.
- 1:30Think it's Noah some. Loud noise, is it my fan?
- 1:34I don't know, I don't know. That's all staying in.
- 1:38It was the fan. Gonna be fair fucking hot in
- 1:42this room. Dude, brother, we, we got this.
- 1:44We just gotta get through the episode.
- 1:45We're gonna have a good time. Let's go.
- 1:47Welcome back to the show, everybody.
- 1:48We are host Nick, Noah, Alex and Evan.
- 1:51This is a WASD and beyond Beyond episode.
- 1:55Screen box returns next week. All the video game conversation
- 1:58returns next week. Before we get into this week's
- 2:02episode, we are sponsored by the one the only final boss.
- 2:05Go check them out the for the best clothing in the game, wear
- 2:09final boss. I'm currently wearing the
- 2:11Manhunt shirt. Evan's wearing the Counter
- 2:13Strike shirt, I believe. Hell yes.
- 2:18What does Alex got? We all final bossed out.
- 2:22I have I. Do not.
- 2:23Have the final boss stuff. That is the classic that you can
- 2:27only get never again apparently because I haven't made more, but
- 2:31that is the old school WSD and beyond.
- 2:33Let Doc Lonnie at go. Check Doc out, he's making new
- 2:36merch as well. Check out Scream Box.
- 2:41Let's just get right into it. We have a lot to talk about.
- 2:43We have a lot of movie to talk about.
- 2:45We are reviewing Macon Blair's brand new The Toxic Avenger
- 2:53Boys. It's finally time to dive into
- 2:56this movie. We took for some context.
- 2:58Noah and I went to California, saw the premiere.
- 3:01That was cool. Great time.
- 3:04The coolest shit I think about this movie for me, though,
- 3:08obviously that was amazing. But it was seeing it in a
- 3:11theater with 13 of our friends. Yeah, like.
- 3:16The the screening out out West was really cool, but I think it
- 3:20was it was slightly more fun to be to be able like to where we
- 3:24were sitting in the whole row of the movie theater, just look
- 3:27either direction. It was all of our friends down
- 3:29the line and I could just look over and see Alex Cheese and
- 3:32Hard. I think my problem was I knew
- 3:37that you knew Noah that the entire time I was like looking
- 3:40over going you think they're going to see it?
- 3:42You think they're I'll just sit there like nudging every I was.
- 3:45It was so funny because there was sit that would happen in the
- 3:47movie because I was right next to Evan and right next to Kyle.
- 3:52So Kyle I was right next to Ben and I could just see them both
- 3:56going what the fuck? Like especially Evan, he'd be
- 3:59like, I'm like, did you see it? He goes, I saw it.
- 4:02It just. I think I, yeah, I think I
- 4:05watched people's reactions more than I watched the movie this
- 4:09time. Yeah, dude, it, it's, it was
- 4:13awesome, especially for like Evan, who's only really seen,
- 4:15you've seen like the Toxic Avenger, kind of.
- 4:20Every time I think I've been in the discord, you've at least if
- 4:24you've been in the spot in discord, you've seen at least
- 4:26bits and pieces of it. I've seen like the same piece
- 4:30every single time where I'll join, I'll go, what's this?
- 4:32And it's the same like thing of him walking down the street or
- 4:35it's that woman in the sauna. And I'm like, OK, I, I've seen
- 4:39this before. I'm clicking off of it now and
- 4:42then I I move on with my day. So yeah, this is like actually
- 4:46the first full toxic adventure that I sat through and watched.
- 4:50Dude, and what a time suck at this 13 people.
- 4:53He'll watch the original soon enough.
- 4:55But now see, the problem is now we have to watch Toxie and then
- 5:00we have to watch the new Mr. Melvin film, which is Toxie 2
- 5:03and three or three and four combined.
- 5:06It was cut together how it was supposed to be originally cut,
- 5:10so that also came out. There's a whole lot of toxic,
- 5:12but we're here to talk about 2020 Fives or doing a technical
- 5:172020 threes Toxic Avenger. Should we kick it off with the
- 5:21movie itself, like I was talking about it or Noah?
- 5:23Did you want to talk about how this came to be and how it
- 5:27finally came to theaters? Where do you want to where?
- 5:30Should I start with it's? We can do that and then we give
- 5:33a general overview and then we're going to go straight into
- 5:36spoiler stuff. Yeah.
- 5:42So yeah, I guess we'll start off with what exactly happened here
- 5:47because this, it's sort of there was a buzz around it ever since
- 5:51sort of they the last one they made, which I don't remember
- 5:54which one that is. There was sort of like, are they
- 5:56going to do something with this? Are they not going to do
- 5:59something because the Toxic Avengers we'd like we talked
- 6:01about in a previous episode, it's sort of like the Mickey
- 6:05Mouse for trauma, like it's their big thing.
- 6:08So there was always like a buzz, like is trauma going to do this?
- 6:10They're going to do something else.
- 6:11They were making more projects, like a Shakespeare shitstorm was
- 6:15the most recent one before this movie.
- 6:18And then there was all the buzz for a remake of The Toxic
- 6:22Avenger, and it was up in the air.
- 6:23And then it was for real. They filmed it.
- 6:26They like started saying like, it's filmed it.
- 6:29We did it. We're like going to festivals
- 6:30with it. And then it never came out.
- 6:33Like if there was just no information about a widespread
- 6:38theater release, they had a little bit of trouble finding a
- 6:44distributor. Originally they showed it at a
- 6:47fantastic fest in September of 2023.
- 6:51And then just, I think like midway through last year, I
- 6:55don't really remember when, but Syniverse announced that they
- 6:57would be distributing the movie. And then it was going to like go
- 7:01to all these theaters where they we got popcorn buckets.
- 7:04It was going to get the whole the whole theater treatment.
- 7:07So we finally got that and then a couple months ago they started
- 7:13doing at Comic Con. They started showing screenings.
- 7:16The first one was the media one that we went to and then I think
- 7:19they just screened it over the whole weekend.
- 7:21They did? Yep.
- 7:24OK, which is super cool. Like if you were there, you
- 7:26could just show up and and watch it and.
- 7:29Hopefully. We were there.
- 7:32There was like people who were like waiting in line for they
- 7:34were at least waiting for like two or three hours.
- 7:38They were waiting for our viewing to finish.
- 7:41Yeah, Which? Means they waited through our
- 7:43whole thing and then another one.
- 7:46Yeah. So.
- 7:48So like the buzz was there, but like for me.
- 7:51Love the monster. They do.
- 7:53I mean, they fucking do. It's a great story.
- 7:55But like, for me, I remember seeing the buzz around this
- 7:59movie releasing a fantastic fest or whatever it was called.
- 8:03I think that's what it was called.
- 8:05And I just remember seeing like little articles like Peter
- 8:11Dinklage's Toxic Venture. I'm like, no, he's not Like,
- 8:14what the fuck are you talking about?
- 8:16Toxic Avenger? Back then when my brain, I was
- 8:18like 2023, I'm like, he's, he's like 6-8, seven feet tall.
- 8:24He's a big hulking thing. It's it, it's not Peter
- 8:27Dinklage. And then it's like, here's a
- 8:29screenshot of like a silhouette. I'm like, oh, OK, that works.
- 8:32That's cool. And then it's like Elijah Wood's
- 8:34in the movie and I'm like, no, he's not.
- 8:37It's like, yes, he is. And then it's Kevin Bacon.
- 8:40And I'm like, what are we doing? How is like all of this?
- 8:44Because that's what they were like.
- 8:46They're drip feeding all this information and drip feeding
- 8:49screenshots. I remember when I first saw, I
- 8:51was like, oh, this is real. Like we're getting a Toxie
- 8:54movie. And then just radio silence for
- 8:56two years. And I was like always pissed off
- 9:00about that. I was like, this sucks like it
- 9:01will never. I was tweeting at them all the
- 9:03time, like this sucks. Whoever's not letting this film
- 9:05come out, you're fucking Wiley Coyote, Coyote ING the movie.
- 9:08That's bullshit. Like release it and it got
- 9:12released and people seem to love it, so let's go.
- 9:16No, it's all Xenoverse stepping in and being like, we will,
- 9:20we'll put this up, we'll like front this for you to get it
- 9:23out. And then I have a feeling that
- 9:28because so screen box is also like they get like a company
- 9:34logo in the movie. So I don't know if they had some
- 9:38kind of deal where they were like we're going to release this
- 9:41new Toxic Avenger and then it's going to be on your streaming
- 9:44platform along with a lot of other Troma movies that they
- 9:47just put on there. So Screen Box is also involved
- 9:51in this in a way, which is sort of how we got is that I think we
- 9:55got involved with Screenbox via the Cineverse promotional stuff
- 10:00for the movie. Yes, we that's how we got
- 10:04involved. And then we met all the
- 10:06wonderful people at Screenbox and Cineverse and it's just
- 10:10awesome. You could tell the team behind
- 10:12that's like the one of the biggest things we talked about
- 10:15on it came from Screenbox. Our our other show is you can
- 10:18tell when there is a good time being had in a film and you
- 10:25could tell a team that really wants us to succeed.
- 10:29Everything we saw from me and Noah, seeing Macon Blair in
- 10:32person with the entire cast just elated to show us this movie,
- 10:37screamed they had a good time making this film and wanted this
- 10:40film to be seen. And it's even more so evident
- 10:44when you see this movie that this was just a good time to
- 10:48make like everyone on screen is having a blast.
- 10:52Again, a huge thing we talked about on the show.
- 10:56It's just looked amazing to be a part of.
- 10:58And it for it to finally be out is just fucking awesome because
- 11:02it could have been one of those things where tax write off, it's
- 11:05gone. Sorry, not happening.
- 11:08And that didn't. Happen it could have just been
- 11:10dumped onto a streaming platform.
- 11:12So it's pretty incredible that it we got to be able to see this
- 11:15in theaters and it wasn't very limited like they were running
- 11:18it at all the big theater chains for like the whole weekend
- 11:22least. There's still, there's still.
- 11:25It's still in theaters. Still in theaters?
- 11:27I'm looking at some showtimes right now.
- 11:29Yeah, it's like a movie like this, Like I it's a big deal,
- 11:33but I did not expect it to get such an extended run.
- 11:36But that really shows like that this is this is something that
- 11:40people are still interested in. Well, look at Terra Fire three
- 11:44of them. Give them more money for
- 11:46possibly the second one. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:49Hopefully we get a second one, but but but again, my points to
- 11:53this all is like look at Terrifier 3.
- 11:55Terrifier 3 is the domino that has to be pushed for Toxie to
- 11:59hit theaters because Syniverse put out Terrifier 3 in the in
- 12:03the theaters. Terrifier three hits theaters
- 12:05does astronomical numbers crazy return on Terrifier 3.
- 12:11People love art the clown. You go into fucking target,
- 12:14there's art the clown. You go to Walmart art like this
- 12:16movie that we watched here in the server with people, and
- 12:21people were in our server going, what the fuck is now a
- 12:25mainstream media monster? This Art the Clown is this
- 12:29generation's Jason Voorhees. Yeah, Michael Myers.
- 12:33Yeah, Freddie. Brooke and I were at, we went to
- 12:35a Spirit Halloween and they had some pretty good art.
- 12:38The clown costumes there, the like, the masks they had were
- 12:42like pretty good. I was like, dude, that's sweet
- 12:44because I don't think you would have seen that even last year.
- 12:47No, no, absolutely not. Well, there's some Halloween
- 12:51stores across. Did you see the clown last year?
- 12:53I. Don't remember when the movie.
- 12:54Came out, they're public, they're holding hard the clown.
- 12:59Stuff during Terrifier too. But.
- 13:02Yeah, well, this is the first time that I really noticed it
- 13:05out in public, but they're like Terrifier and Toxie.
- 13:08It's sort of like the the audience is kind of overlap.
- 13:12For those movies, yeah. Yeah, Oh yeah, dude.
- 13:14Especially when you look at the films themselves and like,
- 13:17they're just fun movies, right? Like Terrifier is a bit, you can
- 13:22debate if it's fun or not, but it's a good time to watch.
- 13:25But yeah, no, because Terrifier, Damian Lyon and that whole team
- 13:30and Syniverse like This is why Toxie hit theaters and This is
- 13:33why we got to go see it and why everyone else is seeing it now.
- 13:37And This is why we're about to talk about the movie itself.
- 13:39Unless Noah has some crazier facts about the.
- 13:42Movie now this is really the thing of it, but we're going to
- 13:46do goes everybody should see this.
- 13:49Yeah, I read some shit about it that they took 5 million of the
- 13:56budget and paid off people's medical debt.
- 14:00Yes, for the marketing budget. That's, you know, that's.
- 14:06That's awesome. That's fucking awesome.
- 14:08That's awesome. And it's, and it kind of got a
- 14:12little bit to do, you know, you could relate that to the story a
- 14:14little bit. When we, I, we should have, we
- 14:17should have watched back our prediction video that we did to
- 14:21see if we were what we said, because I don't honestly
- 14:24remember, but I definitely remember saying something about
- 14:26it, you know, focusing on the pharmaceutical aspect of things.
- 14:30Full spoiler, by the way, that's this is your warning.
- 14:33If you haven't seen it, go, go watch it and come back.
- 14:35But it was based on like the Pharmaceutical industry and a
- 14:40big like point of it was him having to deal with.
- 14:45The. Customer facing side of an
- 14:48insurance agency. So like it's kind of, I don't
- 14:50know, it's kind of like topical that they would use part of the
- 14:54movie, use part of the budget for the movie.
- 14:57That's a commentary on health insurance to pay people's
- 15:01insurance debts and stuff. So.
- 15:02They they put out a statement saying we planned on doing like
- 15:06flash mobs, Toxie flash mobs and all of these other marketing
- 15:10stunts. Like we were like Toxie at like
- 15:13a Mets game, right? Or like, you know, like
- 15:16incredible. They were going to do shit like
- 15:18that and they're like, or we'll just pay people's medical debt
- 15:22off and that's what they did. It was it was a couple million.
- 15:26It was it was either 2 to. It was between 2:00 and. 5
- 15:29million I read 5. That's 5 million is no Trump
- 15:33change. That's that's huge.
- 15:35Yeah, yeah. So, you know, I mean that just
- 15:38goes a lot. Of Americans taken care of right
- 15:39there. Yeah, that's also like it says
- 15:43something about like the kind of people making this type of
- 15:45movie. Because I don't know if I would,
- 15:47I don't know if I'd call this necessarily independent because
- 15:50Troma has been around forever, but it's definitely like
- 15:55smaller, like it's like a. Oh, this is this.
- 15:58Is I don't know what like you would call it.
- 16:00And for them to like, yeah, they had all that budget and they
- 16:03were like, well, we can actually like do something good with this
- 16:07other than making an awesome movie, right?
- 16:10This is kind of speaks to the caliber of yeah, but I'm curious
- 16:16to know Evan's perspective, mostly because he's sort of a
- 16:20trauma newbie. This is really.
- 16:23So we're going to go this. Is like, if you're a young kid
- 16:25now, this is your trauma. This is what you.
- 16:29This is what you'll like if your parents were trauma fans.
- 16:32Take you to see this. This is your generation's toxic
- 16:35Avenger. And yeah, you're not like a kid,
- 16:38obviously, But for you, this is like the first.
- 16:41Oh, I am yeah, you get. So I want to I want to know your
- 16:46perspective coming in from a non trauma perspective.
- 16:52You know, I went in with, like I told Nick before we went and saw
- 16:56it, I had like, I kept my, my expectations like pretty much
- 17:00just like neutral. I didn't expect it to be
- 17:02something terrible. Like I wasn't going in like,
- 17:06like with like a negative opinion of it already or like a
- 17:08super positive when I was like, I'll just see it and, you know,
- 17:10go be along for the ride more or less.
- 17:12And once everything kicked off and it started going, I was just
- 17:19really enjoying it. I thought the humor in the movie
- 17:23was probably my favorite aspect of it.
- 17:25Like I liked the the fighting and the, the gore and all that
- 17:29sort of this, that sort of stuff was really good.
- 17:31But it's honestly just the humor and the the a lot of the
- 17:35bickering between the actors felt like it was improv.
- 17:40Yeah. So like, that's what I liked was
- 17:42it sounded like they had done it, like they just turned the
- 17:44camera on and we're like, all right, go ahead and do a couple,
- 17:47like do a couple rounds of this and we'll see what we get out of
- 17:49it. But yeah, I really just like
- 17:52Peter Dinklage especially, I thought that was, I thought he
- 17:54was actually a great pick, especially once, once I heard
- 17:57his voice as Toxic Avenger after the the the change.
- 18:02And I was like, oh, I get it, like.
- 18:05Yeah, man's has such a good voice.
- 18:07It's also just like, I liked that change too, of it being
- 18:10like, literally the little guy, but also like I thought that
- 18:14theme or like that little metaphor there was nice, but
- 18:17just his voice adding on to it was really funny at every time.
- 18:20Like whenever he would get really mad and swing, you were
- 18:24just like, this is like, yeah, there's a little oomph behind
- 18:28that. Yeah, no, I thought that I
- 18:30thought that was cool. I thought the story of it itself
- 18:32was really good. Like Noah talking about it being
- 18:35not just about like health insurance, but like, like snake
- 18:39oil, like, like people selling you a bad product and going,
- 18:42this will make all of your pain go away.
- 18:44You know, your, your, you know, joint pain, your, your aches and
- 18:48and whatnot. Like it'll go away if you just
- 18:51take this one thing that says cure all.
- 18:53It's like. It's very obviously bullshit,
- 18:56but like, yeah, I mean, like, that's the the thing about it
- 18:59too, right? Is kind of has an environmental
- 19:02spin on it as well. Like, you know, this company
- 19:04also polluting everything too. So it touches on a lot of
- 19:07really, as Noah said, like topical themes, which I also
- 19:10liked. I like that it had some pretty
- 19:12good commentary on those things while also keeping it light and
- 19:16funny and happy. I thought I, I loved it.
- 19:22I honestly, I thought it was a really great movie.
- 19:24And like I said, I didn't go in expecting it to to be anything
- 19:27specific. I was just like, I will see what
- 19:29this is 'cause it's like, no, I said the first movie I'm seeing
- 19:32from these people I can't really go in with however their past
- 19:36movies may have been or whatever I may have heard from you guys
- 19:39or from other people, good or bad.
- 19:40I can't go in with thinking of those things.
- 19:42I just got to go in with my own perspective and leave it alone.
- 19:46So yeah, no, I I really loved it.
- 19:48One weird part about it though, the guy on my right just kept
- 19:51really trying to show me when Toxie was going to show his Dick
- 19:55and I didn't like. That it's It's funny because the
- 19:59similar thing happened to me when we were all watching Dune
- 20:01Part 2 it. Really isn't that interesting.
- 20:04Yeah, he wasn't talking about anybody's Dick but he but he was
- 20:07very excited. He was very excited about a
- 20:10worm. Listen, I get when I get excited
- 20:13about something, the. Elbows come out.
- 20:16Five years and I it's I am excited about Dicks.
- 20:21Well, dude, OK, but let's toxie's Dick was wild.
- 20:27That was insane when we when no one.
- 20:29I first saw them over at the premiere.
- 20:31We were like. That was the only last.
- 20:34Moment. It's like a bad dragon.
- 20:37It was like a bad. I'm surprised Bad Dragon doesn't
- 20:39make one of those. That would be.
- 20:41It might now. Oh my God, bad dragon get.
- 20:43On I can't, I can't lie. I would buy one I I can't even
- 20:46front, I'd buy one I'd put. It on my taxi shelf.
- 20:49I put it on my Toby. That's they.
- 20:52Should do that. What is that pretty money?
- 20:54That scene, that's toxic Dick. That's what it is.
- 20:59That scene itself, though, was just funny.
- 21:01Well, it's just like one of those moments where it's like,
- 21:04OK, yeah, you showed Toxie's cock, but it's the whole, All
- 21:08right, now turn around. I got to piss on my face.
- 21:11Like it's just not a pervert. Like, I'm not a, I'm not a
- 21:13pervert. I got a piss on my face.
- 21:17He's very serious. He's like, I am not a pervert,
- 21:20OK, but hold. On yeah, it's like just that
- 21:24good slapstick fucking in your face humor and it's like, this
- 21:28is awesome. For the most part.
- 21:31Movie was. Are you going?
- 21:34Who's doing it? I just say this movie is just
- 21:37filled with slapstick. It's yeah, top to bottom fucking
- 21:423 stooges comedy. Fucking hilarity.
- 21:46Yeah. Oh fuck.
- 21:47Yeah, but it also upon the rewatch, I was like, well, this
- 21:52movie kind of takes itself seriously for a lot of it.
- 21:55Like there's jokes and stuff, but it is actually like it's,
- 21:59it's a it's a proper narrative movie.
- 22:01Like when we rewatched, we saw that, Evan, we, we saw you
- 22:05missed the straw just there. But he's out.
- 22:09For the listeners haven't just poked himself in the chin trying
- 22:12to drink his little drink there, but Doctor Pepper anyway.
- 22:17Anyway, the the original Toxic Avenger, I don't know if we said
- 22:21it, but we definitely said it while we were watching it.
- 22:23It's kind of like a montage of just stuff going on, and there
- 22:28was definitely shades of that in this movie, but it was way more
- 22:31of like a single narrative. It was on the rail basically.
- 22:36That's how it felt. This is on rails.
- 22:38It it had a little bit of like A twist and turn where it's like,
- 22:41which way are we going? Which way?
- 22:43But it always put itself back on track and you're like, oh fuck
- 22:47yeah. I liked all that.
- 22:48Like that. I see why we did that.
- 22:50Like it all made sense as to why it was kind of looping you and
- 22:54pulling you and it made sense. And yeah, this is a bit more of
- 22:58a cohesive Toxic Avenger. And that's why I think with
- 23:01today's audiences, it's going to hit like in the way they're
- 23:05marketing it honestly, like this is the hero you need like talks.
- 23:10She's going to mop up crime and, you know, love the monster
- 23:14bringing that old ad back. It's it's I think it's it's good
- 23:18for people seeing it today. Now I am curious.
- 23:25We've asked Evan, no. And I are going last, Alex.
- 23:28We have to go last. We cannot go first or second or
- 23:32third. Alex.
- 23:33Why not? Because we can't.
- 23:34That's. What you're going to say?
- 23:38Alex. I will say this is probably one
- 23:40of the best films of the year and like not being biased like
- 23:43it is, it's great. It honestly is.
- 23:47I mean, movies are kind of in AI.
- 23:50Shouldn't say the movies are in a rough state, but like the
- 23:53mainstream movies are in a rough state.
- 23:54Unless you're like only watching horror movies, there's not much
- 23:58good going on. Even even with horror movies.
- 24:03Weapons together him. Well, yeah, horrors, I think.
- 24:09Been OK we're not talking. We're not talking about that.
- 24:13This film is good from beginning to end.
- 24:16The slapstick I'm going to talk about 1 scene that actually had
- 24:19me like cracking up laughing as when Toxie's sneaking into.
- 24:24I can't remember Kevin Bacon's character's name.
- 24:28He's. Just sneaking into the the comp.
- 24:32Is his real name is. You can call him by his nickname
- 24:36that he doesn't like. Oh yeah, they call him.
- 24:40Bozo, bozo, bozo, bozo. His real name I think is Robert.
- 24:46I think his real name is is Robert but they call him.
- 24:48Bozo, I think so too, yeah. But when they're sneaking into
- 24:53the compound, you're like. What's your name?
- 24:56Get in compound. And I don't remember dude.
- 25:00Chut Haven. I smoke.
- 25:02Is it Chut haven? Yeah, it's Chut Haven.
- 25:05It is Chut Haven. I keep talking about that part
- 25:09though, because this, it's incredible.
- 25:11You know what I'm talking about. Yeah.
- 25:13The, the, the, the, the girl, she's like, I got this.
- 25:16She like unbuttons her blouse and like gets the girls all like
- 25:19fucking ready and she's like hey boys and they just turn and look
- 25:22and they both shoot each other right in the fucking head.
- 25:25They like, drop their guns and they go.
- 25:28Just just like both stink right in the fucking head.
- 25:31So fucking funny. Like that shit actually had me
- 25:33laughing out loud. That part was so fucking funny
- 25:37because I I must have like blinked or something when we saw
- 25:40it the first time because I did not remember.
- 25:42That I didn't remember it. That was, that's comedy fucking
- 25:47gold. And then he was like talks.
- 25:48He was like, that was easy. It is so good.
- 25:54So good. Well, she was surprised too.
- 25:56She's like, I didn't think that would happen it.
- 26:00Happens twice. It happens again later on in the
- 26:02same fucking scene. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:08Kevin Bacon did great job, did a great job.
- 26:11He's he's a horror icon. Friday the 13th Scrummers.
- 26:16He's our boy. We love Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood
- 26:21probably wouldn't have this movie if it wasn't for Elijah
- 26:23Wood from what I recall. He's a big proponent.
- 26:26Yeah, he's a big part of it. And, and Dinklage killed it.
- 26:31Yeah, dude, yeah. And and whoever this kid who
- 26:34played the son he killed. Jacob Tremblay.
- 26:36Jacob Tremblay, he he killed it. And you can't forget Luisa
- 26:45Guerrera Guerrero. I don't know how to say it.
- 26:49I butchered that, but she's the stunt performer who is in the
- 26:53suit the whole time. She's a toxic.
- 26:56Which I can't imagine that was probably, honestly, hell.
- 27:00Yes, that's why Peter couldn't do it.
- 27:02Peter basically knew that he wasn't going to be able to do it
- 27:06from what I recall listening to. And they were like, well Louisa
- 27:10can. And then basically she just like
- 27:13studied his mannerisms, how he and her would like practice
- 27:17together. And that's how they got that
- 27:20working. And she did a phenomenal job in
- 27:23that fucking suit. We used to talk about the that
- 27:26effect for a for a bit. The Toxie Avenger himself.
- 27:31Yeah. So as far as I can tell, it's a
- 27:34suit. A lot of the effects, like a lot
- 27:37of the the fluids and stuff is all practical.
- 27:42There's definitely CGI going on with the suit, like I think I
- 27:46maybe the glowing, I don't know if that's really not the eye.
- 27:50Yeah, but it it's very like it looks very practical, but it's
- 27:55like not it's it's like it's good enough that it doesn't look
- 28:01like an obvious practical effect like I was.
- 28:03I was not quite sure sometimes if that was if it was practical
- 28:07or not, which is like, in my opinion, is a really good
- 28:11indicator that they're like blending the effects really well
- 28:14together when you don't always know.
- 28:16And sometimes you definitely know, like when there's any
- 28:18dismemberments and it's like a gore spray.
- 28:21Yeah, yeah. You know, all that stuff is
- 28:25like, yeah, it's big, big time effects.
- 28:27But then other times there's a lot of practical stuff.
- 28:30Beat a motherfucker with their own arm.
- 28:33Yeah, yeah, so good. There was butt guts in this
- 28:36movie. What are you talking about, bro?
- 28:38Yeah, that was crazy. Fuck it, that was a quick what
- 28:41did you have for lunch? Toxic.
- 28:45Toxic. Chef.
- 28:46But that's so funny. I thought the suit was great
- 28:50from the moment it was like shown actually, right?
- 28:53So it's the minute you get to see Toxie.
- 28:55The transformation scene is awesome.
- 28:57What a great homage to the original.
- 29:00The transformation was sweet. The way Toxie becomes Toxie is
- 29:03cool. I thought it's it's cool.
- 29:09It's the window scene for me that's really sold it like, hey
- 29:12buddy, I'm your dad. What the fuck throws an ashtray
- 29:15toxic. He just falls straight back into
- 29:17a car and the guy who was terrorizing his neighbor earlier
- 29:22with the cat, basically, you know, he lands on his car, just
- 29:26shoots Toxie in the arm, and that's the first time you get to
- 29:28see a. It's the the woman with the cat
- 29:31who you will know from Ted Lasso as the as may the the public.
- 29:36Two Ted Lasso actresses in. This movie 2 Ted Lasso, folks.
- 29:40Who haven't watched it? Oh, it's so good, but Toxie gets
- 29:45shot in the arm and the bullet hits and pierces, sticks,
- 29:49bubbles and pushes out and that's when it starts to bleed.
- 29:53And but it's like pulsating and it's moving and it's pushing
- 29:56fluids and you're like, oh, shit, like this is wild.
- 30:00Like this looks great. And like Toxies like cheeks are
- 30:03like in the face are like actually like being like moved.
- 30:06And there's emotion. That's the biggest thing with
- 30:09the mask itself and the the prosthetic there is.
- 30:12You could see emotion. Yeah.
- 30:15Like it was, it was done so well.
- 30:17And the homage obviously, to the pink Tutu, like immediately, you
- 30:21know, Peter Dinklage walking down the street in the pig pig
- 30:23Tutu and you're like, oh, they're going to do the thing.
- 30:26Like, that's as soon as I saw him walking in the Tutu, I'm
- 30:28like, that's when he becomes toxic.
- 30:30Like, OK, so this is about to be where we're going to get the
- 30:33hero. It was, it was awesome.
- 30:37I love that practical effect. Now, I was a little bummed with
- 30:40some of the CGI choices in this film.
- 30:43There were some points in the film where I was like, really
- 30:46like you guys are. I didn't.
- 30:49I don't think you needed to do it like that, right?
- 30:51But I don't know anything about filmmaking what you know but.
- 30:55I feel like have a specific example.
- 30:57It's the broom throw, so that the broom throw was definitely
- 31:01one of those ones where I was like that could have been done
- 31:03in a funny, you know, cast head, throat the head.
- 31:07You know, the broom flies smash the head open type shit.
- 31:12But it's you know, the eyeball pot.
- 31:14I understand you were trying to they, they had to get the shot.
- 31:17That was a commercial shot, too. It was a trailer shot, right?
- 31:20The broom flies through the head or the mop?
- 31:22Not the broom. The mop flies through the head.
- 31:25The eyeball is at the camera. At that point in time.
- 31:28You're like, that's cool. Yeah, it's a great shot.
- 31:31The problem is with that budget, it's real.
- 31:35The blood in that instance is like really red.
- 31:39And I was like, damn, dude. That would have been, that would
- 31:41have looked really cool had it been practical.
- 31:44And it was still fun because that entire scene when he's
- 31:47singing Motörhead was just awesome.
- 31:50You were saying it's like reference to an original.
- 31:54Toxic Avenger 4. Lemmy's in.
- 31:56Yeah, Lemmy's in one of the toxic Avengers. 4/4 the citizen.
- 31:59Is it citizen toxic? Citizen toxic What are we
- 32:02laughing about? Why are we laughing?
- 32:04I was just, I, I was in my head thinking myself like Nick's,
- 32:08like I just want to throw a mop through a guy's head and record
- 32:11it. Just I want to, I want to throw
- 32:13that mop through a guy's head for real.
- 32:16Let me, let me do this toxic, let me.
- 32:17Listen, if Christopher Nolan is going to set off a real nuclear
- 32:20bomb, I think we could throw a broom through a guy's head.
- 32:22I don't. I don't know.
- 32:24I think we can. Make it work I mean but.
- 32:29I will say one thing real quick, I I seen a spoiler scrolling
- 32:33fucking Instagram and it showed that scene of Toxie walking up
- 32:38to the stage singing Motörhead and I'm like man, I wish I
- 32:41didn't see that. That would have been so fucking
- 32:43cool. Just to like, as soon as I was
- 32:45like, oh I see this coming now, God damn it.
- 32:47It there's a lot of those sneaky little homages in this film.
- 32:51There's a lot of like pointing back.
- 32:53I'm surprised. I'm almost surprised we didn't
- 32:55get like a Sergeant Kabuki man like cameo or because you you do
- 32:59get a Newcomb High cameo. Yeah, well there is a so I have.
- 33:04I I got my list of references. We want to go down the list.
- 33:07We should. We should.
- 33:09I know this is not all the references don't at me, but if
- 33:12you are going to add me, use the e-mail.
- 33:15Wasdbeyond@gmail.com Yeah, I. Used the e-mail.
- 33:19Yeah, I used the e-mail. Inbox is pretty empty right now.
- 33:23Yeah, got on in there. But OK.
- 33:26So this is in no particular order, but at the very
- 33:29beginning, the doctor character who JJ is working for, his name
- 33:35is Melvin. Melvin.
- 33:36Obviously reference to original Toxie.
- 33:41Kevin Bacon's character is called Bozo by like people who
- 33:46have known him for a long time and and they use it to like
- 33:48insult him. It's clearly like an
- 33:50embarrassing nickname. Here's a fun one that I figured
- 33:53out while I was looking at the cast.
- 33:55Sorry, it just clicked in my head.
- 33:57Why, Yeah. Go ahead.
- 33:58Well, that leads into. This one.
- 34:00Yeah, OK. Well, OK, so this is probably a
- 34:04coincidence, but the actor who plays his name is Bob Garbinger.
- 34:09That's Kevin Bacon's character is a female assistant who's
- 34:13like, clearly obsessed with them.
- 34:14The actress, her name is Julia. So we got, you know, a bit of
- 34:20roundabout. We got Bozo and Julie back
- 34:23together again, which I don't know if that's a coincidence,
- 34:27but that's crazy if it if it is. If they worked that into the
- 34:31film somehow, that'd be insane. Yeah, that was, I found that out
- 34:36when I was like in the IMDb and I was like, no fucking way.
- 34:39I don't know if any. Yeah, Yeah, I got some more.
- 34:43The town is called St. Romasville, which is the
- 34:47Emilyville reference to Tromaville because the the S is
- 34:50always missing or broken or something.
- 34:53You mentioned it. There's a Nukem High reference
- 34:56when the sports newscasters, when he's talking about the
- 35:01Saint Romasville High School team is going to.
- 35:04He's just like they're going to Nukem at the game.
- 35:06Yeah, that's the Nukemi reference.
- 35:09And then right at the end, it's probably more, but right at the
- 35:13end, the homeless doctor characters wearing a Trombaville
- 35:16Health Club T-shirt. Yes.
- 35:19Right at the end. He's not a doctor, though.
- 35:21He's not a doctor. He said he's a doctor.
- 35:25Yeah, like when I say that, when I say that.
- 35:28Does Jake say? That when when we were in
- 35:32California and I heard them, we say, yeah, he's just over there
- 35:35huffing jankum. I started to fucking cry.
- 35:39Because like, if you don't know what Jankum is, it's fermented
- 35:42shit. Your shit in a carboy and you
- 35:48put a balloon on it and you put it in the sun.
- 35:51You let the you let you let all the fucking the shit gas go into
- 35:59the balloon. You huff the gas.
- 36:00Methane. It's, you know, the stuff that
- 36:02burns a hole in the atmosphere. So you, you huff, you huff
- 36:07methane from your. Yeah, you huff the methane
- 36:09fumes. And then you get high.
- 36:12It's called jenkum. And that's what he was doing.
- 36:15That's Toxie's best friend. I kind of thought he was going
- 36:18to be more of a presence for the back half of the movie.
- 36:22Like, I thought he was going to, like, be like a sidekick
- 36:24character. Yeah.
- 36:26You know, why are you dying here, Evan?
- 36:29I could have gone for my rest of my life without knowing that.
- 36:32You. Didn't know that was a real
- 36:34drug. I didn't know anything about any
- 36:37of those words until you put them all into that order and
- 36:39said them. Wait till you learn about
- 36:41cheesing. Oh dude, you don't.
- 36:42Want to do cheesing? Please don't go cheesing to me,
- 36:46I beg of you. Oh.
- 36:47My God. You don't cheese, you'll never
- 36:49know about the major boobage. The major boobage, bro South
- 36:55Park deep cuts No man, I this movie is awesome from top to
- 37:00bottom. There's so much here that I
- 37:02think my biggest thing is I think you could take anybody to
- 37:07see this film and they will have a good time seeing it because
- 37:11it's a it's a film about the environment.
- 37:13It's a film about healthcare and insurance.
- 37:15The whole I have the platinum tier scene that.
- 37:19Was so funny that. That if you've ever.
- 37:22Called insurance. Seen as dying.
- 37:24Dude, you have platinum. Fucking work.
- 37:28You have, you were. Like trying to warranty we were
- 37:30trying to warranty out of like ARC car part at work and this
- 37:34company called Horizon hobby fucking total trash.
- 37:37Fuck them. I highly doubt it.
- 37:40Lick, fuck, lick my fucking lick my Grundy Oh.
- 37:44Yeah, I take that. Verizon like we're we're we're
- 37:47trying to fucking return a part and from what I've been told,
- 37:51we've been dealing their parts for like 20 years.
- 37:54There are stores and you're like, well, what tier are you?
- 37:57What what the? IT was literally the scene but
- 38:02with. Fucking I'm a platinum tier.
- 38:05Yeah, but you don't have the gold tier perks.
- 38:08Platinum's better than Platinum. It's so incredible.
- 38:13It's so. Sad.
- 38:15Yeah, no, it's so sad because. You know, that's like a real
- 38:18thing, yeah. Yeah, but she she goes and then,
- 38:20but it's not the gold tier. You need the gold tier.
- 38:25He's like, I don't know what a tier is.
- 38:28And this, yeah, isn't that the gold?
- 38:34I I like that they were clearly like taking a stance on that
- 38:37kind of thing. And then just to know that other
- 38:38fact that Alex said where they used like some of the budget to
- 38:42pay off people's health, you know, debts and stuff, It's
- 38:46just, it's. So fucking cool.
- 38:48Yeah, yeah. That's awesome.
- 38:50I mean, if you think about it, people like us, were there
- 38:54advertising budget? Yeah.
- 38:57That's why, you know, like we, you know, a lot of us and other
- 39:00creators really championed this film, and for good reason.
- 39:05It was. It's such a good time.
- 39:07And again, Evan's real first. What?
- 39:10Fuck your shit. I was gonna say what tier of
- 39:13what tier of supporter are you? Tier, we're pretty high.
- 39:16California. We flew. 3000 miles.
- 39:20That's got to be the gold tier. I I got a toxic avenger tattoo.
- 39:24For the Yeah. And he is.
- 39:25Alex and Nick are marked for life with the Toxic Avenger.
- 39:29That's it. Doesn't get much higher than
- 39:31that. Yeah, dudes.
- 39:34So you guys, you guys are what yours you need.
- 39:37You guys are diamonds in there. You need to have platinum.
- 39:40You need platinum to your perks that you do not have with
- 39:43diamonds. So I've had a.
- 39:44Platinum better than diamond? No, it's not.
- 39:48That was. But yeah, that was a relatable
- 39:50scene. But for me as well though, I
- 39:53picked up on a lot of the father story of this film too.
- 39:56Yeah, that was good too. Yeah, it's about him.
- 39:59That's when it's home. It's navigating being a dad
- 40:03because his, you know, his wife is dead.
- 40:05He's taking care of her son. He's the stepfather, but he's
- 40:08not like the evil stepfather. He's trying to be like, I am
- 40:11not, I'm your dad, but I'm not going to.
- 40:14It was a whole, it was awesome how they approached all that,
- 40:18right? Like it was just a it was just
- 40:20really fun. And it was cool to see how that
- 40:24interaction really plays out between, you know, Toxie and his
- 40:28son And I, I loved every minute of that.
- 40:31I thought that all those big home hitting factors,
- 40:34environmentalism, rally against the insurance companies in the
- 40:39medical field for the bullshit that they push on us being the
- 40:43father, like doing what's right. Like that's a major thing in
- 40:47this movie. The movie is majorly about just
- 40:50do the right thing behind all of its gore and it's, you know,
- 40:54gross outs, which I do. Before we close out and give our
- 40:58final thoughts here, I do want to touch on the gore in a
- 41:00minute. So, Alex, yes.
- 41:03It's just funny because at the end, like towards the end of the
- 41:06flick, it's he, he's like, he finally like this kid calls him
- 41:10dad and like, you could see it in Toxie's face.
- 41:13He's like, oh, and he's like, you're not.
- 41:16He's like, he's like, you haven't just been killing, have
- 41:20you? And he's like.
- 41:23He's like no A. Little bit like maybe once or
- 41:27twice. It's all the times like it
- 41:29doesn't matter. You already called me dad.
- 41:31You can't take it back. Yourself, is it self-defense?
- 41:34So what do you what do you mean? Well, define self-defense.
- 41:37You know, just yeah, that's a good scene.
- 41:39It's a fucking awesome scene that really pushes Toxie because
- 41:42that's a major push for him as well in the movie.
- 41:44It's now I got to go get my son. Yeah.
- 41:48We should mention the cameo. We get a little cameo.
- 41:52From Uncle. Lloyd and Macon Blair together.
- 41:56Macon Blair together Macon Blair gets his ass beat by the killer
- 41:59nuts really quick. Elijah Wood was a perfect baddie
- 42:03in this film. Like just like the henchman
- 42:06stooge character. All in the nuts, All in the
- 42:11nuts, or send in the nuts. You're fucking rock'n'roll band
- 42:15monster core. What?
- 42:17It's monster Core. It's it's what?
- 42:22I love dude. I love those guys.
- 42:26I was just thinking of Hollywood Undead the entire fucking time
- 42:29and I cannot get out of my head and it was like, oh.
- 42:33Well, the constant the constant parkour.
- 42:36No parkour. Yeah, I was.
- 42:38I was just going to mention him. Did love the guys.
- 42:39Like, is it, is it parkour time? Like now he's like, he's like,
- 42:44he's like getting out of the van.
- 42:45He'll do a flip and he's like, that was sick.
- 42:47I nailed that and then the like the chicken head guy, the
- 42:52chicken headed guy. Do you want to go into that?
- 42:54Because so. I knew he has like a shrunken
- 42:58head. There's.
- 43:00Presumably from the medicines. This.
- 43:03So that character itself reminded me of Hotline Miami.
- 43:06I was like, oh, that's cool. It's like a play on Hotline
- 43:08Miami right there. But then Toxie kills all of the
- 43:11killer nuts. There's one left that is the big
- 43:15chicken guy, the biggest dude of them all, chasing down basically
- 43:21Monty Python's him pulls the mask off and it's like this
- 43:25sickening. It's like a small baby head.
- 43:29It's an infant's head on this man's body.
- 43:33He's like, he's just, yeah, yeah.
- 43:36He's just like, where are, where are they?
- 43:38Like, where's my son? He's dad.
- 43:40He's just. All he says is Chad Haven.
- 43:42I like how they don't kill him like Toxie doesn't kill him.
- 43:45He's like, I'm not sure if this whole baby.
- 43:49What? What do I do?
- 43:50Why it ran the way it ran too instead of saying I'm just?
- 43:54Stupid and goofy. Oh my God, the the the girl.
- 43:59Could hardly keep the vomit down.
- 44:01She's sitting there swallowing her vomit because she's so sick
- 44:04and. His theater.
- 44:06Erupted. Yeah, and everybody was laughing
- 44:09at that one. That was another big laugh that
- 44:11we got in the theater, yeah. Something that I, I, I cracked
- 44:16up at and I don't know why I still am trying to figure it
- 44:18out. But when Kevin Bacon's character
- 44:20at the very beginning stuck to Elijah Wood's character and he
- 44:22goes, do you know how much is at stake here?
- 44:25And then he just screams everything.
- 44:27You know, it's like, I wonder if the people behind the camera
- 44:29were like, just deliver it normal.
- 44:31And then he just did that and they were all just like Jesus
- 44:34Christ it. Was.
- 44:35It was. Just going to say to his
- 44:37everything it was so. Cool the TV.
- 44:41Oh God you love how he throws this his he throws coffee at the
- 44:45TV and it breaks every time and the guy immediately a Butler
- 44:49immediately comes in starts wiping it down.
- 44:52Like that's going to fix it. And he's got he's got a basement
- 44:56full of lab nerds. Yeah, just doing the basement of
- 45:00the lab nerds. That was great.
- 45:02Fuck it. So good dude.
- 45:04Well, to get Kevin Bacon too. He was born for this role
- 45:07because he was just so mean and nasty.
- 45:10He's so funny. Like the banquet scene where
- 45:12he's like, what do you do for us?
- 45:13He goes mop shop. What?
- 45:15What? And he's like, oh, what?
- 45:17Yeah, You can tell, like we, like you said earlier, we always
- 45:24go on and on about like it being clear when people are having a
- 45:27good time on set. This is sort of like the
- 45:30ultimate culmination of that because the like a lot of these
- 45:33big actors, like they didn't have to do this.
- 45:35You know, they could have been doing something else, but they
- 45:39did this for the love of it. Dude, they're horror nerds just
- 45:44like us. Well, yeah, a lot of a lot of
- 45:47Hollywood points at trauma. We would not have the new
- 45:51Superman without trauma. That is a fact.
- 45:54James Gunn comes from trauma. Lloyd Kaufman was in the new
- 45:58Super. Uncle Lloyd is in.
- 46:00Uncle Lloyd makes an appearance, which that's got to be so cool
- 46:03for him to like, see like somebody who he worked with when
- 46:07they were just starting out. Yeah, who you sort of mentored
- 46:10them. And now they're making like
- 46:12mainline DC movies, like they're running the the mainline DC.
- 46:17Universe when you got to think Uncle Lloyd probably thinks of
- 46:20it in the old, not in the way of necessarily it's ADC thing, but
- 46:23it's your name is enshrined as one of the people who directed
- 46:26Superman. Like, yeah, you know, there's
- 46:29not that many people who have done that.
- 46:31And it's all the more important when you do it and it's good and
- 46:34it's received well and people like it.
- 46:36And obviously James Gunn nailed it.
- 46:37And I thought it was really cool because I didn't notice Uncle
- 46:41Lloyd the first time or second time I watched it because I
- 46:43didn't know what he looked like. And then I saw James Gunn say
- 46:46like, happy birthday, you know, Lloyd Kaufman or whatever.
- 46:49And then he was like, he's in the new Superman.
- 46:50I went back, watched the movie again just to see him in that
- 46:54little like half second, like blinking.
- 46:55You'll miss it. Could you imagine, and this is
- 47:00like, I'm putting my tinfoil hat on for this one, could you
- 47:03imagine the next Superman movie? It's just a lineup of heroes and
- 47:07it's whoever in Green Lantern, whatever, and Batman's there and
- 47:11it pans to the side. It's the Toxic Avenger.
- 47:15You just see the mock. I don't know how, I don't know
- 47:17where I am. I don't know what this is.
- 47:20Oh, that would, but that would be so good if you could do that.
- 47:23I. Do think he could just be there?
- 47:26That could be that be simple because.
- 47:29James Gunn, if you're listening. You.
- 47:31Should he said you should do that.
- 47:33He said Man of Tomorrow is going to have Lex and Superman working
- 47:39sort of together to stop a bigger threat, so maybe.
- 47:42The bigger threats could be the Toxic Avenger.
- 47:45Toxie's a good guy. Yeah, maybe he turns bad.
- 47:49Yeah, well, you know, so they're like Batman and Superman are
- 47:52supposed to be good guys, but they fight sometimes.
- 47:55They're getting. Spats.
- 47:56They're little spats. I wanted to touch on the gore
- 48:01because of a big proponent of why this movie couldn't be
- 48:05released was because of the gore.
- 48:08And which? I think it has a lot to do with
- 48:11maybe 2 scenes, Toxie's monster Dick and I think it has to do
- 48:19with the butt guts. All I mean, all I would say, all
- 48:24I would say is that if a movie like like Jigsaw can come out
- 48:28and movies like like Terrifier can come out, then this movie
- 48:33didn't have anything worse than that.
- 48:35No, I mean those movies. Terrifier had way worse.
- 48:38Well, and it's also like, it's like I I thought it was very
- 48:41like it's obviously fake. Like yeah, like just like that
- 48:46that the the scene when he throws not like he throws the
- 48:49the mop or no, he hits the the one guy in the diner and takes.
- 48:53On the jaw and everything. Yeah, and that's that's so
- 48:56obviously just like, come on, like what are we talking about?
- 49:00They like you guys. That guy looked Jigsaw.
- 49:03He did look a little familiar. It was the beret he looked like.
- 49:09Yeah. Like, but yeah, if, yeah, if you
- 49:12have like Jigsaw, like yet Terra Fire or any number of movies
- 49:16that have come out and like, not even necessarily gore, but just
- 49:19unsettling scenes, you know, this movie is not very
- 49:22unsettling. It's not really even like gory
- 49:26in the way that I would think. I like, I would want to shield
- 49:29people from because it's like, it's obviously not real.
- 49:32That's that's totally fake. It's meant to be like, funny,
- 49:35like, yeah, yeah, these guys are, yeah, these guys are jerks
- 49:40and like this, this, you know, guys beating them up with a, a
- 49:44toxic mop. And it's like, you know, it's
- 49:47not really meant to be something that you're, yeah, concerned
- 49:49about, I guess. But I think the gore was fine.
- 49:52I was only disappointed that there was a, a so, so little of
- 49:56it. Like, I thought it was going to
- 49:57be much more gory. And it ended up not being that
- 50:00way. And I was like, huh, strange.
- 50:03You are. You brought up the restaurant
- 50:06fight, which itself is a big reference to the original.
- 50:11And in that it is a, no pun intended, but a blink and you'll
- 50:14miss a thing. There's the the woman who turns
- 50:17out to be the She's like the FBI person.
- 50:20Yeah, she's the FBI. She's and she's there in the
- 50:23restaurant. She's blind, which is a
- 50:25reference to Sarah from the original 1.
- 50:28That's Toxie's girlfriend and becomes his wife.
- 50:31Oh, OK. Yep.
- 50:33Interesting. That's also in her in her being
- 50:36her being FBI also makes sense to why she wasn't like but.
- 50:41She didn't freak. Out at all?
- 50:42Yeah. By these thugs.
- 50:45Well, one of the thugs almost get out of gets out of his
- 50:48mouth. I've never cornholed me a blind
- 50:50bitch like that, which is almost comes out and then it's just
- 50:54boom, Toxie comes in. I was like.
- 50:56Rips his jaw off. That was sick as fuck.
- 51:00Like there's a lot of that. The gore was fun the whole movie
- 51:04but I wanted more but the whole movie it was as a fun
- 51:08cartoonish. It's a it's a superhero comedy
- 51:13for adults. The Boys has way crazier, more
- 51:17unsettling shit than what this. Oh, absolutely, by far.
- 51:20In a way. But like, this was just a fun
- 51:22fucking time at the theaters. Yeah, dude, fucking more, Toxie.
- 51:29All right, boys, who wants. Does anyone else have anything
- 51:31else to say before we put a bow on this?
- 51:33Give our final thoughts on the movie.
- 51:36Noah and I, if we if we, if we want to start and then or if
- 51:40Alex and Evan want to start. If you wrap it up.
- 51:44If you do. Go to the theaters while it's
- 51:46still out and watch this. There's after credit scene stay.
- 51:50Yeah, we talked about you got to watch Toxie make a grilled
- 51:52cheese. How he teaches you how to make
- 51:54grilled cheese. I.
- 51:57Really use when I make grilled cheese.
- 52:00I do not you. Didn't tell anybody.
- 52:01So I'm not an animal, but Brooke also likes mayonnaise on the.
- 52:06Groceries, there's no, you can't taste it.
- 52:08It's no different, I said. I'll, I'll know, I'll know that
- 52:12it's. No, no, You'll know that it's
- 52:13there. Yeah.
- 52:14No, no. I.
- 52:15Know I did during that scene like right when the credits were
- 52:18ending I was looking at everyone going everyone sit back down and
- 52:21like to the other theater goes there just like I was like.
- 52:25I'm telling you behind one. Yeah, because I was like, stay
- 52:29where you're at, don't get off. Don't.
- 52:32They listened. Nick did.
- 52:33His other people were. Nick did his for the audio
- 52:37listeners. You won't see it.
- 52:38I'm going to violently jerk my elbow.
- 52:40He went make sure to stay for the after credits and I was like
- 52:43OK dude I get it I. Get it?
- 52:45I get it. Holy Chest.
- 52:47So they're holding my chest, holding my chest like Jesus,
- 52:49like I wasn't even planning on moving.
- 52:54Who wants to start off with their final thoughts of this
- 52:56film? I'll go hit it.
- 53:03Very good. Good to see you.
- 53:06I'm gonna punch you. No, no, I liked it.
- 53:09Like I said, if you like slapstick, like comedy and tales
- 53:16of like an Underdog, I think this is like the the perfect
- 53:19movie for something like that, like a 2025 movie that does both
- 53:22those things quite well. Skip gets the humor right, gets
- 53:26the, the shock, those things right 'cause it's not shocking
- 53:30in a way that is terrifying or horror or violent in a way that
- 53:33makes you go like feel unsafe. It is stuff that makes you just
- 53:37feel like that's no, there's no way they just did that on
- 53:40screen. And then it just like keeps and
- 53:42then it just keeps moving and you just keep enjoying it.
- 53:46Stay for, you know, come for the laughs and, and like the good
- 53:49story, but stay for the, you know, the actors who are, yeah,
- 53:52selling it and, you know, really giving it their all and love
- 53:55making it. And, and like, you can tell
- 53:56they're having a good time. You can tell that they're giving
- 54:00it their all. Like I said, I felt like there
- 54:02were just some scenes where they just put the camera on, put them
- 54:05in position and said, go ahead, just run this through a couple
- 54:08times and just let's see what we can get.
- 54:10And, you know, 'cause it's like these are all people who are
- 54:12very experienced and, you know, know what they're doing.
- 54:15And obviously, at the end of the day, I think when you have that
- 54:18combined with doing this movie, for the love of it, you have a
- 54:21lot of people who intrinsically understand the vibe you're
- 54:24trying to capture. So yeah, like, I mean, like I
- 54:29said, I give it like a like a nine out of 10 like.
- 54:33Holy. Shit, let's go.
- 54:35I don't. I think the lowest score I've
- 54:37ever given anything on any of the shows is like a 7 1/2 or a
- 54:41six if I really didn't like it, but for.
- 54:43You to give Toxie A9 is big. That's sweet.
- 54:46I mean, I don't know. It doesn't, Yeah, like it does.
- 54:48It's not hard to to entertain me.
- 54:50But like, it was good. It it had heart and that's kind
- 54:52of what what matters. All right, fuck yeah.
- 54:57You know it's. It wasn't made by an algorithm,
- 54:59I'll tell you that much. No.
- 55:01You know, you notice how he went out of 10 instead of 5.
- 55:05That's fine. Oh cuz that's what I'm used to
- 55:07from the the gaming side of stuff.
- 55:09Cuz we do. Well, technically we're on WASD
- 55:11right now. So we'll, we'll go to 10 here
- 55:13today. We'll go to 10.
- 55:15I had a problem with. I had a problem with.
- 55:17I had a problem with doing 10s when we were doing fives.
- 55:20Sorry. Just fine, fine.
- 55:22I was like, oh, all right, who is next?
- 55:27I'll give it like a four out of five if that makes it easier to
- 55:29gaze. There you go.
- 55:30So 9 out of. 10 or a four out of.
- 55:34I'll go. Alex.
- 55:38I'll give it a 10 out of 10, maybe a little.
- 55:40It might be a little bias in there.
- 55:41I I can't lie, it's toxic Avenger, love toxic.
- 55:45It's a great film. It's probably one of the best
- 55:47films of the year for sure. We'll be buying this physically
- 55:53when it is released. All hands down.
- 55:55This is going on my shelf. We'll be watching it.
- 55:59Go see it. Can't recommend it enough.
- 56:02It's. Great from beginning then fuck.
- 56:06Yeah, dude, no. Yeah, I also get, I would say 9
- 56:11out of 10. I loved it.
- 56:13It was, it was all that we kind of hoped for and maybe a little
- 56:19bit more. There was a a clear love of the
- 56:23craft on screen. You could tell by just the names
- 56:28of the actors who are in this. You could tell but that it was a
- 56:31love letter to the original. A lot of people have said that
- 56:35this is Lloyd Kaufman sort of passing the torch, passing the
- 56:38mop to make him Blair. And I think the the Trauma
- 56:45cinematic universe is in good hands with him.
- 56:48If this was his first sort of day out in the public with this,
- 56:56then, you know, I can only hope for what comes next.
- 57:00Sergeant Boogeyman, please, Macon, if you're there.
- 57:04Mr. Blair, Sir, if you don't mind.
- 57:08It's culturally insensitive, probably, but I'm sure you can
- 57:11figure it out. I just.
- 57:14Yeah. For For what?
- 57:15This for the implications of the movie and like what this is
- 57:19going to mean going forward for, like, smaller movie studios.
- 57:22It's just there's so much to love here.
- 57:26Yeah, no. The Toxic Avenger, man, 2025's
- 57:30Toxic Avenger from Macon, Blair, Xenoverse, Trauma, Bloody
- 57:34disgusting. Everybody involved.
- 57:36This is a smash hit. This is a easy 10 out of 10 for
- 57:40me, even despite some of the things I had a little bit of a
- 57:42gripe with, right? This is the hit.
- 57:44Everything I wanted it to hit and the people behind it make
- 57:47this a perfect film because of what they stand for, because of
- 57:52what they made, because of what they've given the audience.
- 57:57This movie has it all. It's it's again, it's a it's a
- 58:00father son flick. It's a flick against corporate
- 58:03greed and destroying the environment and insurance
- 58:07companies, ruining people's lives.
- 58:09It's an action flick. It's a superhero flick.
- 58:12It's a monster flick. It's it's all these things and
- 58:15one big amalgamation that is the Toxic Avenger.
- 58:20And it's important to see this generation's Toxie, this
- 58:25generation's trauma really breathing new life into cinema.
- 58:30It it's important that films like these also hit the the
- 58:33theaters. You can go see a Mission
- 58:36Impossible. You can go see a Top Gun or a
- 58:39marvel film or Oppenheimer and that those are all must sees in
- 58:44theaters, right. But like, to see something like
- 58:46this in theaters is is wild. I'm saying because those are
- 58:50critically acclaimed. Evan I.
- 58:51Was going to say, what are you? Talking to those Tom Cruise
- 58:53flicks, you know. 222 Tom Cruise.
- 58:56Flicks 2 Tom Cruise movies? Dude that was so strange.
- 58:58But those movies like, you know they're going to be in theaters.
- 59:01You don't have to wonder like you know it's going to go to the
- 59:04theaters. And I can just get.
- 59:05It something like this is. This is funny.
- 59:07Yeah. It's it's special when something
- 59:09like this hits theaters and audience go, oh, I love this.
- 59:14This was fun because everybody who's seen it has gone.
- 59:17I loved this. This was fun.
- 59:18I I can't believe I just saw that in theaters.
- 59:21It's important. It's like like we're going to do
- 59:25a little full circle back to like that street trash thing.
- 59:27I like. I tried getting a hold of some
- 59:31theaters to get St. trash in there and I got shit for
- 59:35response. So I was like, all right, dude,
- 59:38that that kind of sucks. But.
- 59:40Yeah, just like this needs to come into theaters.
- 59:43It really does. I think if this had like a lot
- 59:47of if this got a lot of people into the theater, that's like a
- 59:51really good sign. I think people are people are
- 59:54hungry for these more independent, you know, movies
- 59:58made by smaller studios if nothing else in a 24 is huge
- 1:00:04now. But they weren't always well.
- 1:00:06You got neon. Well, you got neon, you know.
- 1:00:08Yeah, Neon a 24. You know, now Syniverse is
- 1:00:12really busted into those theaters.
- 1:00:14Well, like those legendary. Yeah.
- 1:00:19Yeah. Like they're, they're correctly
- 1:00:23identifying that people have not gotten like Dumber in the sense
- 1:00:27that you can't make a good story anymore.
- 1:00:29That is complex and like has themes that are a bit deeper
- 1:00:32than just surface level. I think because there was a big,
- 1:00:35you know, superhero movie slash like franchise craze, people
- 1:00:40forgot that you could make a story that was just like that.
- 1:00:44That that's the thing that comes up often, right, where it's like
- 1:00:46some people will see a movie like marriage story and they'll
- 1:00:49go, it's just, it's just two hours of people talking.
- 1:00:52And it's like most movies were like that were, were like that
- 1:00:57prior to, to like a lot of things like this.
- 1:00:59So, and like this obviously isn't that.
- 1:01:02It's not just two people talking.
- 1:01:04It's a lot of action and humor and comedy, you know, just
- 1:01:07things going on. But it it's themes are it wears
- 1:01:11its heart on its sleeve is probably the best way I could
- 1:01:13put it. Like it is not afraid to
- 1:01:15advocate for the things it wants to advocate for.
- 1:01:17It's not afraid to stand up for the little guy as it literally
- 1:01:21is all about that. So yeah, great movie.
- 1:01:26Go see it. Fuck yeah dude.
- 1:01:29Or WASD and beyond. Gold Star.
- 1:01:33Oh, this gets yeah. Big time Gold Star here.
- 1:01:35Which is you can. Give it.
- 1:01:37Does not give you the same perks as a silver star, just.
- 1:01:41Or the platinum you have? Yeah.
- 1:01:43Or the platinum. Yes, they're they're separate.
- 1:01:46Yes, they're. Different know what a tier is.
- 1:01:48Well, I don't know what a star is.
- 1:01:51But yeah, man, no, we, we love the film.
