- 0:00So we have upcoming the holidays, Sukkot and in some
- 0:08ways the Sukkah is the maybe pretty underrated place.
- 0:16And Mitzvah and Yan, I'll tell you what I mean.
- 0:20That means that the Sukkah itself is a very spiritual
- 0:24place. I'll give you one example.
- 0:25We have this idea that we do the ish cuisine, cuisine.
- 0:29Each day we welcome in a different guest, Abraham Itzhak
- 0:32Meerkov, 7 days, 7 guests. And the idea is a unique thing.
- 0:37What does it mean? You have Abraham coming on on
- 0:40one day, it's hot coming. You talk at this day.
- 0:42What is this concept? And these are words brought down
- 0:46from the heart of this concept. But the theme is, is that the
- 0:50sukkah is a term. The name for this guy is called
- 0:53Soto de en Ruta. Soto de Ruta means you're in the
- 0:57shade of Hashem. So the spiritual level of a
- 1:02Zuka, like I said, underrated. It's an unbelievably highly
- 1:07spiritual place. In fact, I think you can say
- 1:11that the zuka in a way is the most spiritual place on earth.
- 1:14Sense Now a shul has shul, remember that has the only
- 1:18unique qualities. That's because they're
- 1:20designated for service. So when something is designated
- 1:24for service, it has a very important level as well for the
- 1:27suka without designation, just the fact that suka is a suka is
- 1:31an extremely spiritual place. For example, a president should
- 1:35avoid talking things that are inappropriate in a suka because
- 1:39of that level of spirituality. And you should recognize the
- 1:41fact that in the very holy place, OK, it's called the shade
- 1:45of Hashem now. So the Dermuto, the shade of
- 1:48Hashem now, why isn't a point to know it's a shade of Hashem?
- 1:50So here's the thing I want to lead to, and that is that we
- 1:54know there's two cars supposed to be more shade than sun.
- 1:59I mean, this car has to be there.
- 2:01You have Sodom and as he can have major gaps where there's
- 2:04too much sun coming in, you have to have some sun coming in, but
- 2:08more shade than sun. Now how does that relate to
- 2:12first kind of very relates in depth is that that idea of
- 2:16having more shade than sun is a literal halacha, but it's also a
- 2:20very deep concept and that is that a person supposed to be
- 2:24more in the shade of Hashem and they are in the shadow of Hashem
- 2:28than they are under the sun. Now what does that mean?
- 2:31So let's go a little deeper. The sun represents nature.
- 2:38The sun represents I don't call wealth, but represents basic
- 2:47natural things. When someone's going into more
- 2:50shade than sun, what they are saying is I'm going more into
- 2:53Hashem's hands than I am into nature.
- 2:56That's actually the deeper theme of the zuka.
- 2:59They stepping into Hashem's hands more than you are nature.
- 3:03That's the idea. So you put in more shade than
- 3:04sun, you're blocking out nature because you're going into God's
- 3:07hands. That's the idea.
- 3:08I'm going to tell you again, it's a very and I think we break
- 3:13it down or get cloudy again. That's the first one.
- 3:17The first one is that this Zuka is an extremely powerful place,
- 3:21and the core of its power is value in a shem Shem's Shea
- 3:26Shem's hands, so to speak. You know, on that point, by the
- 3:31way, you know, the sugar has to be two walls, three walls,
- 3:35really. Two walls and a drop.
- 3:37All right, Two walls and a like, you know the idea because you're
- 3:41in a Shem's embrace, and an embrace is like this.
- 3:44One arm, 1/2 of the arm and the half of the arm and the hand.
- 3:48So 2 walls and a drop, that's the idea.
- 3:52So you're literally in a sham shade and you know sham is
- 3:54embrace. That's the idea.
- 3:56Now listen to this game. I know it's going to start off
- 3:58very random, but his explanation is deep and relates to this
- 4:02point. Tenderabana mass Saberly is it?
- 4:06There's a story with a rabbit who is sitting in someone's Suka
- 4:13Hegia Hamada Suka to the sun started to shine down on the
- 4:19suka amarlo on Rabbi SL Driver. Rabbi, am I allowed to put a
- 4:27sheet over the sukkah? The sun is shining down too
- 4:32much. Can I put a sheet to block out
- 4:35the sun? What's the Haleh Khan Shabbat?
- 4:38You let him put a sheet over Sukkah amarlo?
- 4:41The rabbi answer. This is left field.
- 4:43The rabbi answer with those random statement he said and the
- 4:48car called Shavette. They share it.
- 4:51Mr. Hill, she'll go, hey, meet me men or shop it.
- 4:55There hasn't been a tribe of the Jewish people who never had
- 5:01didn't have a judge. Exactly.
- 5:04It's a very strange camera. We were changing subject, right.
- 5:10The rather the question was, are you allowed to put a sheet over
- 5:14the suka? It's too much sun you can relate
- 5:16to in a second. All you like to put a sheet over
- 5:18a suka, it's too sunny. Can I put a sheet and they're
- 5:23out and the response was what are you doing Jennifer you there
- 5:26are there has been no tribe without a judge was what his
- 5:31apples have to do with this wonder what's going on.
- 5:34So now the sun starts to get stronger.
- 5:39The sun starts to come over to the center to go.
- 5:42Now deciding to beat down even harder.
- 5:45He tells him can I put the sheet?
- 5:48He tells him it hasn't been a tribe that went without a
- 5:53prophet. You're not talking to me.
- 5:55A model in the car called Chevy to share myself.
- 5:58Should I assume Naveen? I understand.
- 6:02And then the stuns start to beat down really hard and without
- 6:05even asking the question to get these ridiculous answers, it
- 6:08seems he took a sheet, covered the Zucca, called a day,
- 6:12strangest came out of ever. He's asking the question, are
- 6:15you allowed to put a sheet over the Zucca because it's too
- 6:18sunny? He's being answered.
- 6:21Every tribe has had a judge. He asked the question again
- 6:25because it got more difficult. He was answered.
- 6:27Every tribe has had a prophet. He asked the question for the
- 6:31third time because the sun was beating down so much, and he
- 6:34said, you know, enough with this.
- 6:36He covered the sukkah himself. What in the world is going on in
- 6:40this kimono? All right, Wonder what was going
- 6:43on with this kimono. Charles, have any idea?
- 6:45Sounds like left fields, right? You hear their words left field
- 6:50as it gets. So there's another explanation.
- 6:53Told you before that this, this shade of a sukkah represents the
- 6:59idea that we're going into Hashem's hands and out of
- 7:02nature. That's what represents the sun
- 7:04is nature and the shade is Hashem.
- 7:08This is a rabbi singing as Surat literally but also figuratively.
- 7:14She was a very wealthy rabbit, a very wealthy rabbi with a lot of
- 7:18business. And he asked the question, can I
- 7:22go more? Can I cover the sukkah?
- 7:24Which meant, says the Khatan Sofir, can I cover the sukkah?
- 7:27Meaning can I get less involved in my business?
- 7:30Can I get less involved in my natural income and get more
- 7:34involved than Hashem? You know, learn more not be so
- 7:38busy with my money because I want to be able to be involved
- 7:41with Hashem. I want to move out of the sun
- 7:44and more less involved in material and get more involved
- 7:49with my learning. This is this question in the
- 7:51idea he was very wealthy man and he answers this question Charles
- 7:54the other question nothing he was he said sheet.
- 7:58He said sheet covering the sun. But he really meant as a
- 8:01metaphor. Can I move out of my current
- 8:04state where I'm a wealthy person and I want to get more involved
- 8:07in learning. I got rid of my business and I
- 8:09go more into learning and the answer was answer was every
- 8:14tribe has had a judge. What that meant was
- 8:17figuratively, every single type of person in their state has had
- 8:22a leader. Don't leave your role.
- 8:24Your role is perfect for you. I know you have wealth and I
- 8:27know you have business and you're trying to get out of it.
- 8:29It's good for you. So he asked the question again
- 8:31because his son started to get stronger, which meant he got
- 8:33wealthier, more business, and now he was getting really,
- 8:37really felt bad. Too much business for me.
- 8:39I want to learn. I want to, I don't want to be
- 8:41this kind of person. Can I cover this sheet?
- 8:44Can I move out of my business and go straight into learning?
- 8:47Totally. So that I can spend more time
- 8:50and I show him his hands. Now the question is clear as you
- 8:52follow the question. And the rabbi ignored him again.
- 8:55He said it hasn't been a tribe without a prophet.
- 8:57In other words, I shall put you into your role.
- 8:59You're a unique situation. You're a wealthy rabbi.
- 9:02Unique situation. Continue your role, don't move
- 9:04out. Continue to make money.
- 9:06Continue to make money and learn.
- 9:07Do your thing. Then the sun started to beat
- 9:10down like crazy, which means he became an extremely, extremely
- 9:15wealthy man. And then he just started on his
- 9:17own, right. Asking the question for me
- 9:19personally, I only have 120 years to live on this earth.
- 9:23It's too much sun. In other words, I'm clearly
- 9:26being pulled too much materialism.
- 9:29It's beyond the need for a judge, beyond the need for a
- 9:32profit. In other words, there's no need
- 9:34as a leader for me to have this much sun.
- 9:37I'm going to make the decision myself, spread the sheet over
- 9:40the sukkah, which meant I'm going to move out of my business
- 9:43now because I'm so wealthy. I don't need it anymore.
- 9:46Maybe I'll sell his shares, whatever it is.
- 9:48I'm not going to Torah full time.
- 9:51But the process of this camera is showing you, and this man was
- 9:55debating what do I do in my role?
- 9:57I have a lot of material and I also have a lot of capability in
- 10:00Torah. I'm a rabbi.
- 10:02What do I do? Do I move out from my business
- 10:05part He was told no. Second time he was told no.
- 10:08Only when he was extremely wealthy.
- 10:12Beyond all means, he was able to be told or either made decision
- 10:17on his own. Cover the sukkah with the XI.
- 10:20That's the metaphor of this camera.
- 10:23So the camera itself sounded like Chinese, but this is the
- 10:26metaphor. Now.
- 10:27There's two things to take away when it's coming up.
- 10:28One thing take away is if a person is placed in a unique
- 10:32situation. Wealthy rabbi, right?
- 10:35He has a business. I know how to learn.
- 10:38Don't think you know, I have to do away with this.
- 10:41Strange I have to go all one way.
- 10:44If you're in a unique situation, God put you there for a reason.
- 10:47Keep it only when it's, excuse me, only when it's over the top.
- 10:52It's extreme. He only has a certain amount of
- 10:55time to live. Does he change the situation?
- 10:57Aside from that, you leave it up to Hashem and you accept your
- 11:01role as is. That's point #1 and there's
- 11:03tsuka point. Our tsuka.
- 11:05Is that our tsuka? Literally that it's she which
- 11:09puts us, blocks us out from materialism, and sun represents
- 11:14materialism. So the previous point, which is
- 11:16that materialism is sun because the sun, if you go drop deeper,
- 11:22there's a difference between the sun and the moon.
- 11:24What's difference between the sun and the moon?
- 11:26The sun is always strong, Sun is always whole.
- 11:29The moon has ups and downs. The sun represents full
- 11:32materialism because materialism is something called nature and
- 11:35nature is something that's basically in a certain sense,
- 11:40very automatic. It's a system.
- 11:42And the idea of going into the sukkah is he going into the
- 11:44shade of Hashem and you're getting out of nature.
- 11:47That's what you see in the story as well, going into the shade of
- 11:49Hashem, getting out of nature, you're getting out of
- 11:51materialism through sense. That's the overall idea and the
- 11:54deeper idea of the sukkah. All right, that's the previous
- 11:57thing. And one last point on this
- 12:00embrace of Hashem, this idea of she, this idea of getting out of
- 12:04nature is that we know that when it comes to income specifically,
- 12:13it can be all over the place. People have UPS, people have
- 12:16downs, people have good times and bad times.
- 12:19That's how income works. Part of the idea of going into
- 12:24the shade of Hashem outside of the sun is down like this.
- 12:29I recognize the fact that the sun always be down the same,
- 12:33which means I want to have it always the same, but I'm in
- 12:36Hashem's embrace, which also means I have ups and downs.
- 12:41I don't have that same steady, always the same income, but I'm
- 12:46good with that because that's how sham is embrace.
- 12:50That's another item that the Sukana tells us if you follow
- 12:52that point, which means if you're in a sham's hands, you're
- 12:56outside of the automatic natural system of nature.
- 13:02Nature is more automatic, but it's also not so much cars.
- 13:06Whereas I'm going into Hashem is embraced.
- 13:08When I go into the cigar, it's more of a sense of the fact that
- 13:12it may not be as steady beating down like the sun, but it's a
- 13:16sham is embraced. And that's the final point with
- 13:18this idea of the shade, which when you're not Hashem's hands,
- 13:22it's not automatic system. It's not always every day the
- 13:26same, but it's a shem system, so that's better.
- 13:29That's another thing with this cigar.
- 13:30Let's just pull out these different points and I hope we
- 13:32got them. The opening point was the idea
- 13:36of a Zuka being more shade than sun is a way of saying I'm going
- 13:42out of the of the mindset of nature of automatic materialism.
- 13:47I'm going into Hashem's hands. That's Hashem is blocking out
- 13:50the sun point of 1. All right.
- 13:53The second point is he came out, told us with the story of the
- 13:56Zuka, and this rabbi had a Side Story, which was he was being
- 14:00told through the sukkah metaphor.
- 14:03He's being told to stick to his role until he had his mind too
- 14:06much materialism. Then the story changed.
- 14:09But aside from that, stick to his role.
- 14:11And the final point is, and our idea of being in the sukkah, our
- 14:16idea of being under the shade is an idea of being.
- 14:21And I shams embrace. And even if that means you're
- 14:23not going to have the same automatic system, everyone says
- 14:26to themselves, people say all the time, I wish my business is
- 14:30always the same. I wish I can go to sleep.
- 14:33I wake up in the morning and it's always going to be the
- 14:35same. We all wish that because you
- 14:38have a certain steadiness, you have a certain automatic
- 14:40element. You have a certain element that
- 14:42gives you calm when you go into Hashem's embrace called the
- 14:47shade, which is a scrub. We are saying is I know it's up
- 14:51and down. I know it's not like the sun
- 14:53which is steady, but it's also God's.
- 14:56And that's fine with me. Which means this certain level
- 14:59of nervousness that we all have, worry that we have, because when
- 15:04it comes to income, it's always up and down.
- 15:06But you recognize the fact that it may not be as steady as the
- 15:09sun, as automatic as the sun, but it's far greater because the
- 15:13sham is Braves. Because our final point is if
- 15:15the zucca is literally going into Hashem's home, that's what
- 15:19it is. And when you're in Hashem's home
- 15:21and we said it may not be as steady, but it's far greater
- 15:25because you're in a much more comfortable guaranteed mindset.
- 15:30The final point is this, the sukkah may not be as guaranteed.
- 15:35The income of Hashem may not be as guaranteed in our eyes, but
- 15:39it's a guaranteed because of who it's coming from.
- 15:41Which means the sukkah itself in Hashem's embrace is coming from
- 15:46the greatest source. So it gives you the degree of
- 15:48calm. Are you calm business job?
- 15:52Typically you calm business, No. Why you not coming?
- 15:54There's a nervous wreck. Why you nervous?
- 15:58Break it down. I don't know what's coming,
- 16:00right? The reason we're always nervous
- 16:02because you don't know what's coming.
- 16:03We don't know what tomorrow's going to bring.
- 16:04We all wish for the sun mentality, Every one of us, no
- 16:08matter who we are, we all wish for the sun somehow for some
- 16:12reason and never happens. Why is that the case?
- 16:16Why do you think it's the case that we never get that
- 16:19steadiness? And that's sort of, you know,
- 16:22calm. By God telling us you're good,
- 16:25don't worry about the next year, you're good, I mean.
- 16:27The steadiness is actually a negative because when you go
- 16:30backwards, you go forward much stronger.
- 16:33Right to this, the steadiness has two negative elements to it.
- 16:37One, when it comes to your belief in Hashem, there's no way
- 16:41to fully it's it's harder to fully believe in Hashem when you
- 16:45are resting settled and you're perfectly fine.
- 16:48It's harder. There's always you know, I feel
- 16:51good, I'm calm. You don't think I Hashem as much
- 16:53when you have a degree of of worry, you think of a share
- 16:56more. And secondly, tomorrow's this
- 16:58point, which is your development comes from that level of
- 17:04insecurity, from that degree of maybe not, don't go to work
- 17:08worry, but I think we are being on your toes, right, Every,
- 17:13Yeah. Is the only thing that you can
- 17:14rely on this change, And if you can rely on change, that's all
- 17:18you can do. You don't know what's coming,
- 17:19like they both said, so therefore you have to rely on.
- 17:22Right. To guide you through, right.
- 17:23But relying on change is a very scary thing is your point.
- 17:26So when you go into how it works, we are all, no matter who
- 17:29we are, we're all in any business that you're in, you're
- 17:32in a state of flux. No matter how it works, everyone
- 17:36is in a state of flux. And it's by far the most
- 17:39frustrating thing you say yourself.
- 17:41I just wish, you know, you see these guys who are the
- 17:44government workers exactly. They just have this steady
- 17:48income. It might be small, but it's
- 17:50steady, It's guaranteed. It's always the same.
- 17:53He says, what do we have to be in the most volatile up and down
- 17:57mindset business, right? But the reality is being in this
- 18:02volatile mindset makes you stronger as a person, makes you
- 18:06a better businessman for sure, because you're always on your
- 18:08toes, common new ideas. And it develops your real belief
- 18:12in Hashem. Because over time you start to
- 18:15realize it works out. I have no idea what two weeks
- 18:18from now is going to bring, but it works out and it works out
- 18:21and it works out. And that for you gives you a far
- 18:25greater connection to God. So the sukkah literally
- 18:29represents that. It's not the sun.
- 18:31It's not steady nature, it's not automatic.
- 18:34The sun is automatic. We actually going to see how we
- 18:36block out the sun 'cause we're more happy, we're happier being
- 18:42in the shade, we're more comfortable being in the
- 18:45unsettled waters of the God's waters than we are being settled
- 18:50waters outside of God. That's literally how it works.
- 18:54And that's the pasuk and kochadas Takata Shamesh,
- 18:56shamesh. The sun is nature.
- 19:00We like to be in the shade, under the sun, not in the sun.
- 19:05And that's the idea of the sukkah.
- 19:06So you're going into Hashem's house, you're going into
- 19:09Hashem's embrace, and you're going into Hashem's sensing
- 19:12comfort. And it's the volatile but
- 19:14comfortable world that we live in is what the sukkah
- 19:17represents. Can we start with that?
