- 0:00Speaker 1: It's your early morning praise party. I am Sherri Mackie
- 0:04Speaker 1: and it's time right now for today's word. Protect your circle.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Protect your destiny. Protect your circle. Protect your destiny. Psalms
- 0:16Speaker 1: 101 and 5 in the New Living Translation says, I
- 0:19Speaker 1: will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors. I will
- 0:23Speaker 1: not endure conceit and pride. Let me ask you something today.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Are the people you spend the most time with helping
- 0:31Speaker 1: you become better? Or are they pulling you into conversations
- 0:34Speaker 1: and behaviors that can make you worse? We need to
- 0:38Speaker 1: understand that everybody who has access to us doesn't deserve
- 0:43Speaker 1: influence over us. The people around us can affect our attitudes,
- 0:47Speaker 1: our decisions, our peace, and even how we see other people.
- 0:53Speaker 1: You know those conversations that start with, girl, did you
- 0:56Speaker 1: hear about what happened? Before you know it, you're listening
- 0:59Speaker 1: to somebody else's business, discussing somebody else's mistakes, and passing
- 1:04Speaker 1: judgment on a situation you may not know anything about.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And let's be honest, gossip can be entertaining until you
- 1:12Speaker 1: realize you've become a part of the problem. See, Psalms
- 1:15Speaker 1: 101 and 5 reminds us that we should not tolerate
- 1:19Speaker 1: slander or pride. David understood the importance of being intentional
- 1:24Speaker 1: about the people he allowed into his circle. He wasn't
- 1:27Speaker 1: willing to make room for people who use their words
- 1:30Speaker 1: to tear other people down. Here's the danger. What you
- 1:34Speaker 1: continually entertain can eventually influence what you tolerate, what you repeat,
- 1:39Speaker 1: and how you behave. See, if you're constantly surrounded by
- 1:43Speaker 1: people who complain, who criticize, who spread rumors and find
- 1:47Speaker 1: fault with everybody else, you may eventually find yourself doing
- 1:50Speaker 1: the same thing. You know, birds of a feather. Negativity
- 1:54Speaker 1: can become so familiar that you stop recognizing how it's
- 1:58Speaker 1: affecting you. And remember this. If someone feels comfortable tearing
- 2:04Speaker 1: other people down in your presence, don't you dare assume
- 2:07Speaker 1: your name will never become the subject of their next conversation.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Come on now. See, your time is too valuable, your
- 2:14Speaker 1: peace is too precious, and your God-given purpose is too
- 2:18Speaker 1: important to spend your days caught up in unnecessary drama.
- 2:22Speaker 1: You have dreams to pursue, character to develop, relationships to nurture,
- 2:27Speaker 1: and work to do. Now, this doesn't mean you should
- 2:31Speaker 1: look down on people or treat them unkindly. It means
- 2:34Speaker 1: you can love people without participating in every conversation. You
- 2:38Speaker 1: can be respectful without giving everyone unlimited access to your life. See,
- 2:43Speaker 1: sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is change
- 2:46Speaker 1: the subject, walk away, or establish a healthy boundary. Choose
- 2:51Speaker 1: people who challenge you to grow, encourage you to do
- 2:54Speaker 1: what's right, celebrate your progress, and remind you of who
- 2:58Speaker 1: God has called you to be. And while you're being
- 3:01Speaker 1: selective about your circle, examine your own heart too. Make
- 3:05Speaker 1: sure you're the kind of person who speaks life, protects confidences,
- 3:10Speaker 1: and encourages others instead of tearing them down. Don't just
- 3:14Speaker 1: pray for the right people to enter your life. Ask
- 3:17Speaker 1: God to help you become the right person in somebody
- 3:20Speaker 1: else's life. Come on, Jesus. Father, thank you for giving
- 3:23Speaker 1: us wisdom to recognize the influence of the people around us.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Help us establish healthy boundaries without bitterness or pride. And
- 3:31Speaker 1: give us the courage to walk away from gossip, negativity,
- 3:35Speaker 1: and conversations that don't honor you. Guard our hearts, guard
- 3:39Speaker 1: our relationships, and surround us with people who encourage our growth,
- 3:43Speaker 1: strengthen our faith. And Father, let our own words bring healing, hope,
- 3:48Speaker 1: and encouragement to everybody else in Jesus' name. Hey, now,
- 3:52Speaker 1: that's your word for today. Take it, apply it to
- 3:54Speaker 1: your everyday life, and you continue to be encouraged and inspired.
- 3:59Speaker 1: It is your early morning praise party. I am Sherri Mackey.
