- 0:18Speaker 1: At the.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Instant to the people, Good morning, everybody, Happy Friday. We
- 1:34Speaker 2: have just about made it to the weekend, right on
- 1:40Speaker 2: the cusp of it. Beautiful day today, sunny and sixty
- 1:45Speaker 2: eight degrees. We're at fifty five right now, partly cloudy tonight,
- 1:50Speaker 2: forty five absolutely nothing like last night, which we're going
- 1:55Speaker 2: to talk about in a second. Saturday tomorrow cloudy, can
- 2:01Speaker 2: we just change I'm gonna change that to partly sunny
- 2:04Speaker 2: glasses half full sixty seven tomorrow, like the sound of that,
- 2:09Speaker 2: and then you're ready for Sunday. Listen, don't be surprised.
- 2:13Speaker 2: We live in Vermont, Okay. Calm down forty seven for
- 2:17Speaker 2: the high on Sunday with rain and a little bit
- 2:23Speaker 2: of snow both in the fort during the day in
- 2:26Speaker 2: the forecast. Yeah, forty seven. Last night was the best.
- 2:36Speaker 2: And I said to Sherilyn last night and like, probably
- 2:39Speaker 2: the best or the best lightning show we've ever seen.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And I'm like, I don't think it's probably. I think
- 2:48Speaker 2: it's the best period. What was Tyler Jankowski saying, Like
- 2:55Speaker 2: over two thousand lightning strikes. It was continuous, the sky
- 3:01Speaker 2: was just lit up. It was fascinating. I loved the
- 3:07Speaker 2: Lightning Show. Loved the hailstorm, which didn't last that long,
- 3:14Speaker 2: maybe I don't know, half an hour, forty five minutes,
- 3:17Speaker 2: something like that, but just incredible. To be out in
- 3:20Speaker 2: the barn with the metal roof unbelievable. And to see
- 3:24Speaker 2: the pictures that I saw just in my short time
- 3:29Speaker 2: last night on social media amazing and just out my
- 3:33Speaker 2: neck of the woods. Tim Jarvis, I'm gonna be sharing
- 3:36Speaker 2: up his video that he shot in his yard, which
- 3:42Speaker 2: was just amazing. We're just you know, and I know
- 3:45Speaker 2: I've got a couple of friends down south, and I
- 3:49Speaker 2: know that they're like, calm down, JD. It's not that
- 3:53Speaker 2: big of a deal. We get hail here all the time.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Up here, we just don't. We don't hear the words
- 4:01Speaker 2: tornadoes a lot. When we get hail. It might be,
- 4:07Speaker 2: you know, just one or two for a short period
- 4:10Speaker 2: of time. But last night was pretty significant. And that was,
- 4:14Speaker 2: as one listener put it, last night, a good old
- 4:18Speaker 2: April storm. Hearing Vermont this morning, we got some really
- 4:24Speaker 2: cool stuff going on. Gee's out, Potters, Angels is in.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I want to start this morning by just briefly saying
- 4:35Speaker 2: what happened last night for me, just on the early
- 4:39Speaker 2: side of yesterday and my experience last night with Downstreet
- 4:48Speaker 2: Housing and Community Development based right here in Barry. They
- 4:53Speaker 2: had their annual meeting last night and invited me and
- 4:57Speaker 2: I went and I had such a nice time, and
- 5:03Speaker 2: I wanted to start out this morning by saying, I
- 5:06Speaker 2: don't know how many of you know Kevin Ellis. A
- 5:11Speaker 2: lot of people, well pretty much everybody in the crowd,
- 5:15Speaker 2: not even pretty much last night does no Kevin Ellis,
- 5:20Speaker 2: And I can't wait for him to come on the air.
- 5:22Speaker 2: We've been working on this for a long time, but
- 5:24Speaker 2: for years, Kevin Ellis has been one of the most
- 5:28Speaker 2: trusted voices covering the State House and real issues facing
- 5:35Speaker 2: for Honors, and one issue that keeps rising to the
- 5:40Speaker 2: top is the housing crisis. Last night, it was so
- 5:46Speaker 2: much more than just a meeting. It was a celebration, frankly,
- 5:51Speaker 2: not only for the great work that Kevin has accomplished
- 5:56Speaker 2: over the years, but, as he would suggest, a celebration
- 6:01Speaker 2: of what all at Downstreet have done in just a
- 6:06Speaker 2: year's time. As Kevin reminded us last night, building and
- 6:15Speaker 2: managing affordable housing and helping first time home buyers is
- 6:21Speaker 2: really only a small part of the mission over at
- 6:25Speaker 2: Downstreet and making sure that people don't fall through the
- 6:31Speaker 2: cracks when life gets tough is the real meat of it,
- 6:36Speaker 2: because in Vermont right now, housing isn't just a policy discussion.
- 6:44Speaker 2: It's personal. And if anybody knows that, it's Kevin Ellis
- 6:49Speaker 2: and I just again I can't wait to have him
- 6:51Speaker 2: on the air here real soon, not only to talk
- 6:54Speaker 2: about what a rock star is, but also the exciting
- 6:58Speaker 2: launch of his new podcast which is about to take flight,
- 7:03Speaker 2: and he's going to tell you all about it. I
- 7:06Speaker 2: won't do it. I will let him spell the beans.
- 7:09Speaker 2: So stay tuned for Kevin Ellis coming to air it
- 7:12Speaker 2: out soon. I'll be sure to let you know the
- 7:17Speaker 2: date on that the minute I find out. Last night
- 7:20Speaker 2: I wrote on Facebook, and if you missed it, I
- 7:24Speaker 2: just want to just echo that real quick here before
- 7:27Speaker 2: we get to Potter's Angels, because it's really important. Many
- 7:30Speaker 2: of you know my friend Alice Goltz. She has mild
- 7:35Speaker 2: intellectual and developmental disabilities. She is one of the most
- 7:41Speaker 2: beautiful human beings that I have ever met on the planet.
- 7:46Speaker 2: And as I wrote last night, eighteen years ago, when
- 7:51Speaker 2: the state of Vermont decided for Alice that she was
- 7:55Speaker 2: unfit to be a mother and entered her hospital room
- 7:59Speaker 2: to take her baby from her. She started the journey
- 8:04Speaker 2: where she is today, and this is what I wrote
- 8:06Speaker 2: last night, advocating for those people like her to protect
- 8:10Speaker 2: their rights to make sure something like this doesn't happen
- 8:14Speaker 2: to them. On May ninth, Alice is going to be
- 8:18Speaker 2: returning as a participant in the Best Buddies International Friendship Walk,
- 8:23Speaker 2: which is going to be in New Hampshire to support
- 8:26Speaker 2: inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The event's
- 8:31Speaker 2: going to be at the State House and conquered not
- 8:34Speaker 2: just a walk, it is in experience to give great visibility,
- 8:39Speaker 2: attention and opportunity for folks like Alice. And the money
- 8:45Speaker 2: raised is going to go to a lot of different programs,
- 8:49Speaker 2: and I listed off some of them last night, and
- 8:52Speaker 2: I even wrote that I was barely scratching the surface.
- 8:55Speaker 2: She's going to be in here again on the twenty
- 8:58Speaker 2: seventh to sit on the couch, tell her story and
- 9:02Speaker 2: talk about her walk that's coming up on May ninth.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Alice has only raised thirty dollars of her goal of
- 9:12Speaker 2: one hundred dollars, so I put up the link last night.
- 9:19Speaker 2: All you have to do is click on it and
- 9:21Speaker 2: take it from there. And please, if you can help
- 9:25Speaker 2: out Alice, I am going to make sure by the
- 9:29Speaker 2: end of the day today that she has at least
- 9:33Speaker 2: hit her one hundred dollars goal, at the very least.
- 9:38Speaker 2: So more on that. I'll put up the link here
- 9:41Speaker 2: and again, and we'll be promoting this heavily. Taking you
- 9:45Speaker 2: to the Curvy couch this morning, where I have not
- 9:49Speaker 2: only two folks from Potters Angels, but also two beautiful dogs.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Good morning, Heather Bent, how are you?
- 9:59Speaker 3: Good morning, So glad to have you in here doing good?
- 10:02Speaker 2: How are you up great? Tell me who first of
- 10:05Speaker 2: all this guy over here next to you, Rockstar? Tell
- 10:10Speaker 2: us about Brown?
- 10:11Speaker 3: I mean you mean Jamie.
- 10:17Speaker 4: We have a bonded sibling duo here, Jack and Jamie,
- 10:21Speaker 4: both male Yorkshire Terriers, will be three years old in June.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Wow.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Yeah, very sweet dogs.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Brothers. Yes you say bonded. Yes, that's how they were.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Boy get really stretched out when they're separated, and they
- 10:38Speaker 4: do really well together. So yeah, we're looking for a
- 10:41Speaker 4: home that can take both of them.
- 10:43Speaker 2: All right, permanent home. You got foster care lined up.
- 10:46Speaker 3: We've got a foster home lined up. Yep.
- 10:49Speaker 4: They will be getting neutered on Monday, moving to foster
- 10:53Speaker 4: Tuesday and ready for adoption.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Wow. Yorkshire terriers Yeah, pure bread yeah yeah, beautiful.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Talk beautiful dogs.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Yeah, very sweet and well behaved. They are really Brad's
- 11:11Speaker 2: got the more. Uh, Brad's got the one that had
- 11:18Speaker 2: the coffee this morning. Yeah, he's ready to party.
- 11:24Speaker 3: He's ready for the weekend. Jas he wants to go
- 11:27Speaker 3: for a walk down Main Street.
- 11:28Speaker 2: That's so jacky.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Sitting here just chilling.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Wow.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:33Speaker 4: No, they're both good dogs, pretty quiet, but biggest issues
- 11:38Speaker 4: are not really house trained, so they do go on
- 11:41Speaker 4: pea pad So we got to that point. Okay, but
- 11:44Speaker 4: they we use pea wraps on him to keep them
- 11:47Speaker 4: from marking.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Yeah, obviously might help.
- 11:50Speaker 2: To of course. Uh it helped me when I was neutered.
- 11:56Speaker 2: But seriously, this is a fixable thing. This is not
- 12:00Speaker 2: that big of a deal.
- 12:01Speaker 4: Yeah yeah yeah common yeah yeah, yeah, very common with
- 12:05Speaker 4: small dogs.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:08Speaker 2: We're going to do a raffle drawing here in just
- 12:12Speaker 2: a little bit, which I want you to set us
- 12:15Speaker 2: up and tell us about before we do, though, tell
- 12:19Speaker 2: us about what's going on. This weekend.
- 12:21Speaker 4: This weekend, we have so this young lady, Riley gotcho
- 12:27Speaker 4: She sadly took her life this year due.
- 12:31Speaker 3: To bullying a young girl, a teenager.
- 12:35Speaker 4: And she was an avid volunteer for Potter's Angels Rescue.
- 12:38Speaker 3: She was at every adoption event, just sweet as could be.
- 12:43Speaker 2: And where did she live.
- 12:45Speaker 3: She lived in Rando, Vermont.
- 12:47Speaker 4: And we started a scholarship fund in her name and
- 12:53Speaker 4: memory to help kids out like her that are interested
- 12:59Speaker 4: in going in to the animal field. So we started
- 13:05Speaker 4: the scholarship and tomorrow we're doing a packwalk and bake
- 13:08Speaker 4: sale to raise money for it. Our walkers are all
- 13:12Speaker 4: getting sponsored. You can donate directly to the scholarship fund
- 13:16Speaker 4: as well, and we have a phenomenal baked sale happening,
- 13:21Speaker 4: so there's gonna be some great food there so you
- 13:23Speaker 4: can just stop buying and get some good food. And
- 13:26Speaker 4: all the money raised there will go to the scholarship
- 13:29Speaker 4: fund for Riley.
- 13:33Speaker 2: For it says here for from a students studying veterinary
- 13:37Speaker 2: medicine and Vermont. Yeah that is so incredible.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Yeah wow.
- 13:44Speaker 2: And she went to Randolph She.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Went to Randolph Union High School. Yeah.
- 13:48Speaker 2: How old was she when she took her life.
- 13:50Speaker 4: I'm fifteen fourteen, Yeah, yeah, just a babe.
- 13:59Speaker 2: And loved. I mean there there she is? Is that
- 14:02Speaker 2: with Potters Angels talks?
- 14:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I know what you're looking at, but probably yeah
- 14:08Speaker 3: the husky.
- 14:10Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, she she loved her huskies. She has two
- 14:14Speaker 4: of them.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Okay, my goodness.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Yeah wow.
- 14:20Speaker 2: So that's a packwalk is basically get together. Yeah, bring
- 14:25Speaker 2: your dog.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:27Speaker 4: And even though you know we're hosting this, it's really
- 14:30Speaker 4: about you know, and an anti bullying walk more directed
- 14:35Speaker 4: towards that. We will have some of our rescue dogs
- 14:38Speaker 4: there of course too, but we're promoting kindness and compassion
- 14:45Speaker 4: not just to animals but to your fellow Okay.
- 14:51Speaker 2: And where where we Where does this start? Where are
- 14:54Speaker 2: we meeting?
- 14:55Speaker 4: We'll meet in the parking lot of the Random Union
- 14:58Speaker 4: High School, the back parking lot, okay, and we'll be
- 15:01Speaker 4: doing it's a short loop probably, I don't even know,
- 15:08Speaker 4: something like that, right up into town through main Street.
- 15:11Speaker 3: We're going to do the loop around there.
- 15:13Speaker 2: All right, n is when we meet up? Ye all right?
- 15:17Speaker 2: Simple underway at ten yeah, ok yeah.
- 15:20Speaker 3: I'd love to see some people show up to that.
- 15:22Speaker 2: I love what you guys do. And your page is
- 15:26Speaker 2: just jammed with great stuff.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Yeah, we've got a social media team.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Yeah, you really do. Amazing animals and beautiful lots of
- 15:37Speaker 2: heart strings there, but also unbelievable community involvement that got
- 15:43Speaker 2: going on Heaven. That's key, Yeah, that's key. You guys
- 15:47Speaker 2: aren't just in a building, doors closed. You're really infiltrating
- 15:54Speaker 2: yourself out into the community.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, it takes a community to do the work
- 15:58Speaker 3: we do.
- 15:59Speaker 4: This is you know, we have a whole army of
- 16:02Speaker 4: volunteers that do what we do. Like I said, even
- 16:06Speaker 4: the social media team. We have an adoption team. I mean,
- 16:10Speaker 4: this is not something a small group of people can achieve.
- 16:13Speaker 3: It takes a lot of people.
- 16:15Speaker 2: How many animals do you have right now for adoption?
- 16:19Speaker 3: I a good question. I don't know how many we've
- 16:24Speaker 3: got right now. It just keeps me. Yeah many.
- 16:28Speaker 4: That's the constant influx and outflux of animals, dogs, cats, cats, Okay, yeah, yeah.
- 16:37Speaker 3: It's it's pretty consistent.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Just in this last week, for example, just at the
- 16:44Speaker 4: facility we we operate for pods in and Barry Vermont
- 16:48Speaker 4: as well, We've had five different dogs in and out
- 16:53Speaker 4: in the past week coming in for rescue. These are
- 16:57Speaker 4: local surrenders and moving into foster and getting the medical
- 17:02Speaker 4: care they need.
- 17:05Speaker 2: There's a lot here. Yeah, there's a lot going on.
- 17:08Speaker 2: There is a lot of follow up, a lot of
- 17:11Speaker 2: vetting to make sure that these animals are going to
- 17:15Speaker 2: good homes. Last time you were in here, we were
- 17:18Speaker 2: talking about some really funky stuff going on on a
- 17:23Speaker 2: state level when it comes to animals.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Yeah, we're still fighting that. We're still finding that.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, and you know we should we should have
- 17:34Speaker 2: you back at some point and take a dive on that.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Right now, we're pushing the bill H five seven eight,
- 17:45Speaker 4: and that's addressing some of the issues we're facing in
- 17:51Speaker 4: the legislature.
- 17:53Speaker 3: So if they could address the seizure issue, that would
- 17:58Speaker 3: be that would be a huge victory for us.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:05Speaker 4: We've we've done testimony at the state House over the
- 18:09Speaker 4: past few months.
- 18:10Speaker 2: And well received.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I think.
- 18:14Speaker 4: So it's still moving forward. Hopefully, you know, they won't
- 18:18Speaker 4: chop it all just shit like they do.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Yeah. I hope not. I hope not. One of the
- 18:26Speaker 2: great things that you're you're doing is you do an
- 18:30Speaker 2: annual raffle drawing fundraiser.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, so well, we annually we do our
- 18:38Speaker 4: silent auction, and we had a couple of uh leftover
- 18:43Speaker 4: things from a bidder that did not come through with
- 18:48Speaker 4: their payment, so we decided to do to raffle them
- 18:51Speaker 4: off instead. And it's this fundraiser is incredibly important because
- 18:57Speaker 4: rescuing local dogs costs so much much money, Yeah, just
- 19:02Speaker 4: to provide them with basic vegcare, and a lot of
- 19:05Speaker 4: them come in with additional issues that need to be
- 19:07Speaker 4: addressed prior to adoption. So the fundraisers we do, you know,
- 19:12Speaker 4: that's money we need to keep help in our community.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Heather Bent from Potters Angels. If you're just joining
- 19:20Speaker 2: us this morning on a beautiful Friday morning, and the
- 19:24Speaker 2: suns could be shining today, why do we call it
- 19:26Speaker 2: the rest and remix it up for the pups?
- 19:31Speaker 4: Why do we call it We have to ask our
- 19:35Speaker 4: social media team that they do the creative stuff.
- 19:38Speaker 3: I just do the background, dirty stuff.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Yeah. But you've got a couple of organizations here, a
- 19:51Speaker 2: couple of companies that have stepped up and said yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:55Speaker 4: No, these are wonderful, wonderful donations. We've got Vinyl one
- 20:01Speaker 4: four hours of DJ service. It is limited to Chittenhan County.
- 20:07Speaker 4: And then but then we've got the is it two
- 20:10Speaker 4: Nights Day at the FanHouse and Barnard, which is a
- 20:14Speaker 4: beautiful location, and that's over a five hundred dollars value
- 20:19Speaker 4: for that alone. In the DJ service is a four
- 20:22Speaker 4: hundred dollars value. So yeah, our community really rocked this
- 20:26Speaker 4: year with the donations to our silent auction.
- 20:29Speaker 3: It's it's awesome.
- 20:31Speaker 4: And we really rely heavily on our community because we
- 20:34Speaker 4: get no state funding or support to help what's happening locally.
- 20:40Speaker 2: You got to it totally organically, right, Yeah, whis tough.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Yeah, it takes a lot of work out of time.
- 20:48Speaker 2: I'm glad to reach out to listen. Anytime you guys
- 20:51Speaker 2: are are going to do something like this, let you
- 20:55Speaker 2: know as far ahead of time as you can. I'll
- 20:57Speaker 2: do everything and anything I can to promote and help.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Thank you, get it out to the masses. This is
- 21:04Speaker 2: great stuff, don't We're not going to say this too loudly,
- 21:09Speaker 2: but it looks like Brad's finally got it figured out
- 21:12Speaker 2: over there.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Brad, he's calmed down.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I'm talking about Brad calming down. Yeah, and this one,
- 21:27Speaker 2: I mean, this is you're killing me here, Heather. That's
- 21:31Speaker 2: just like I'm imagining myself on my own couch, just
- 21:36Speaker 2: sitting there watching TV Pett and the Dog. I mean,
- 21:40Speaker 2: what what the companionship is just killing I know?
- 21:45Speaker 4: These two are just so sweet and we're honestly all
- 21:51Speaker 4: the dogs we save.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Yeah, really, they're They're incredible.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Where do they? Where did they come from?
- 21:59Speaker 3: These you are surrendered from? Chelsea? I don't uh.
- 22:05Speaker 4: The It was kind of a convoluted story where the
- 22:08Speaker 4: person that surrendered them to us, they were given to them,
- 22:13Speaker 4: They were given to them last week and they couldn't
- 22:16Speaker 4: keep them, so they reached out to animal control, who
- 22:20Speaker 4: contacted us and we took them in.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:24Speaker 2: You know, good though that someone might realize, hey, this,
- 22:30Speaker 2: maybe I've gotten myself in a little bit over exactly.
- 22:34Speaker 3: There's nothing wrong with that. I'd rather have that.
- 22:36Speaker 4: And now we've got, you know, these two very desirable
- 22:40Speaker 4: breeds and we're gonna newter them, which is incredibly important
- 22:44Speaker 4: for their saferee homemen, because these guys would be a
- 22:48Speaker 4: target for people that wanted to breed for money. Yeah,
- 22:52Speaker 4: and because that could yeah, poor life for them. So wow,
- 22:58Speaker 4: So yeah, it's definitely better that they reached out to
- 23:01Speaker 4: rescue to take them in so that we can get
- 23:03Speaker 4: them fully vetted prior to rehoming them.
- 23:06Speaker 3: And we have a.
- 23:08Speaker 4: Screening process for adoptive homes, so we'll make sure they
- 23:12Speaker 4: get to a good home that can care for them
- 23:14Speaker 4: and afford the groom and needs and everything else.
- 23:17Speaker 2: What's the We're going to do the raffle drawing here
- 23:21Speaker 2: live in just a minute. But what are some of
- 23:24Speaker 2: the basic prerequisites to being considered as.
- 23:31Speaker 3: For an adopter?
- 23:33Speaker 4: So the very first step is just filling out an
- 23:36Speaker 4: adoption application on our website.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Then we have our.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Adoption team that screens the application. So I would if
- 23:45Speaker 4: you're applying to adopt, I think it's important to reach
- 23:48Speaker 4: out to your references that you use and let them
