- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning. Sometimes life is going great, and then something
- 0:11Speaker 1: can happen that absolutely brings fear into your heart and mind.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Maybe something happens that threatens your income.
- 0:21Speaker 1: And suddenly, those things that were on the back burner,
- 0:25Speaker 1: your rent payments, your utility bills, even paying your phone
- 0:29Speaker 1: bill and things like that, that were just, by the way,
- 0:32Speaker 1: your income is there every month and you pay your
- 0:34Speaker 1: bills every month, and suddenly, you're paralysed by fear. How
- 0:38Speaker 1: am I going to pay my bills? What am I
- 0:40Speaker 1: going to do? What's going to happen to our family?
- 0:43Speaker 1: Where are we going to live? All of these kinds
- 0:45Speaker 1: of things.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Or you're in a relationship and suddenly there's conflict in
- 0:51Speaker 1: the relationship that threatens your relationship, instantly, fear grips your heart, right?
- 0:59Speaker 1: What's going to happen to my relationship?
- 1:03Speaker 1: Well, we're talking all this week about fear. We've looked
- 1:06Speaker 1: at the nation of Israel's experience in the Old Testament
- 1:10Speaker 1: when God delivered them from slavery in Egypt through Moses,
- 1:15Speaker 1: and Pharaoh started chasing them with his whole army, and
- 1:18Speaker 1: they were so afraid. Then God, of course, parted the
- 1:21Speaker 1: Red Sea. They walked across, the sea crashed in on
- 1:25Speaker 1: the Egyptians who were trying to chase them. They were delivered.
- 1:28Speaker 1: That experience of God showed them that God was actually
- 1:33Speaker 1: much greater than the thing they were afraid of. And
- 1:36Speaker 1: that's true for us as well, isn't it? I want
- 1:38Speaker 1: to take you to another passage today in First Peter
- 1:42Speaker 1: in the New Testament of the Bible, in chapter 5.
- 1:46Speaker 1: He says this, Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand
- 1:51Speaker 1: of God, so at the proper time he may exalt you. Listen.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Casting all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Let me read you another few verses in Matthew chapter
- 2:09Speaker 1: 6 where he's talking about fear in our lives and
- 2:13Speaker 1: anxiety that overtakes us.
- 2:17Speaker 1: He says, therefore do not be anxious, saying, What shall
- 2:21Speaker 1: we eat or what shall we drink or what will
- 2:24Speaker 1: we wear, for the Gentiles seek after all these things. Listen,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them.
- 2:34Speaker 1: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,
- 2:39Speaker 1: and all these things will be added to you. God
- 2:43Speaker 1: will take care of you. Put Him first in your life,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and He'll take care of you. Well, just look at
- 2:50Speaker 1: the progression of what we've looked at this week about
- 2:53Speaker 1: responding to fear.
- 2:55Speaker 1: First of all, this, this reality that we fear what
- 2:59Speaker 1: will happen because we view the possibilities of today and
- 3:03Speaker 1: tomorrow as if God were not on our side.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And we saw that trusting God and seeing him come
- 3:09Speaker 1: through for you is like building up an immunity to
- 3:12Speaker 1: the disease of fear in our lives.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Then we saw that recognising that God is greater than
- 3:20Speaker 1: these things, puts those things in perspective, those things we're
- 3:24Speaker 1: afraid of, and reminds us God is so much more
- 3:28Speaker 1: powerful than that thing.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And today we're seeing that this powerful God who delivered
- 3:35Speaker 1: the Israelites from the Egyptian army is also your loving father,
- 3:41Speaker 1: who cares for you.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And there is no reason to fear. You say, but, but,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and you start immediately thinking of those situations again. Remember,
- 3:54Speaker 1: God is so much bigger than those situations. You may
- 3:58Speaker 1: go through some hard times, but God will take you
- 4:01Speaker 1: through those hard times.
- 4:04Speaker 1: He loves you. He's your loving father. Cast all your
- 4:09Speaker 1: anxieties on him because he cares for you. View the
- 4:14Speaker 1: possibilities of tomorrow as if God were on your side, because.
- 4:22Speaker 1: He is. I'm John North.
