- 0:00Speaker 1: Cocoa tough battle today. Just give us your first thoughts.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Of the match.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I don't know, I had chances, so
- 0:10Speaker 1: I think just trying to capitalize more on these good
- 0:13Speaker 1: points that I'm hitting and not quite finishing. So yeah,
- 0:18Speaker 1: I think that was the difference that she was able
- 0:21Speaker 1: to finish the points and I wasn't.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Question so I could go to flock today. What was
- 0:34Speaker 3: the most frustrating out there today that maybe you couldn't
- 0:37Speaker 3: play the game you wanted or have the sensations you
- 0:41Speaker 3: were used to, maybe playing a bit defensive, But did
- 0:43Speaker 3: you did you see that coming?
- 0:45Speaker 1: I mean, I think again, just like not capitalizing on
- 0:49Speaker 1: certain shots. I mean that three all, I had a
- 0:51Speaker 1: couple of breakpoints and miss think two back ends or
- 0:55Speaker 1: three back ends, which just can't happen in that scenario.
- 0:58Speaker 1: So I think, I don't know. I feel like I'm
- 1:02Speaker 1: practicing well, and when the moments get there, I'm not
- 1:06Speaker 1: quite translating that I do it at times, and then
- 1:09Speaker 1: I also don't do it. So I think it's just
- 1:12Speaker 1: a learning experience and hopefully when I'm in this position again,
- 1:15Speaker 1: I can make better decisions.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Okay, you've had a lot of success in your career,
- 1:24Speaker 2: being able to win matches where you're not always playing
- 1:26Speaker 2: your best, it's one of your strengths. I'm just wondering
- 1:28Speaker 2: if you felt like you could still get over the
- 1:30Speaker 2: line today even if things were not firing for you
- 1:32Speaker 2: and just get what ultimately was not able to get
- 1:36Speaker 2: you to escape this one.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I think just I lost this. I feel like I
- 1:41Speaker 1: lost the same way in Rome as I did here,
- 1:44Speaker 1: which is not good. I think, I don't know. You
- 1:49Speaker 1: never want to lose the same way back to buy times,
- 1:53Speaker 1: and I did, and I feel like also in Madrid
- 1:56Speaker 1: it was a similar thing, losing the same way, So
- 2:00Speaker 1: it's one thing to lose. But I think today I didn't.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I mean I competed like I fought my hardest, but
- 2:06Speaker 1: I don't think I played the way I wanted to
- 2:08Speaker 1: in the crucial moments.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Just looking ahead to Wimbledon, if you can, it was
- 2:15Speaker 4: a pretty good serving performance today. Do you take confidence
- 2:20Speaker 4: and the improvement and the serve and what do you
- 2:23Speaker 4: think the impact will be from that at Wimbledon?
- 2:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, obviously the serve is more consistent of
- 2:28Speaker 1: I'm not holding serf, which is the issue. I guess
- 2:32Speaker 1: who cares how many serves I make in the court.
- 2:35Speaker 1: If i'm the result is still the same, so I guess.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I mean, obviously the grass I think will help a
- 2:41Speaker 1: little bit more, but I think I could have served
- 2:43Speaker 1: more aggressive at some points and did more patterns that
- 2:47Speaker 1: I work on in practice today I just didn't do. So, Yes,
- 2:51Speaker 1: it's more consistent and I have a lot of trust
- 2:54Speaker 1: now in my serf. But at the same time, I
- 2:57Speaker 1: got broken a lot of times and I have to
- 3:00Speaker 1: correct that.
- 3:02Speaker 5: When you got to six or five in the second
- 3:05Speaker 5: set and then three to one in the third set,
- 3:07Speaker 5: did you think, Okay, I've got this under control. I
- 3:11Speaker 5: think you get that sort of feeling like the opponent
- 3:14Speaker 5: was going to go away at this point.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I mean you never obviously you win some games in
- 3:20Speaker 1: a row, so you feel like the momentum is on
- 3:22Speaker 1: your end. But it's pro sports, so I never feel
- 3:25Speaker 1: completely comfortable, to be honest, until the match is over.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And yeah, I think that's maybe the issue too, that
- 3:32Speaker 1: when I see the momentum is on my side, I
- 3:35Speaker 1: should put my keep putting my foot on the gas
- 3:37Speaker 1: instead of maybe letting up a little bit. And I
- 3:40Speaker 1: think that's what I did. Cook go tough one today
- 3:52Speaker 1: in terms of, you know, playing against the top of us.
- 3:54Speaker 1: She can She's a player that isn't automatic. When she
- 3:58Speaker 1: has leads, she can kind of let them go. How
- 4:01Speaker 1: tricky is that to play against as well? When you
- 4:04Speaker 1: maybe sometimes want to put, you know, your foot on
- 4:06Speaker 1: the gas pedal, but if you don't, she might you know,
- 4:10Speaker 1: back up a little bit and vice versa. Did you
- 4:12Speaker 1: struggle with that in your head at all?
- 4:14Speaker 5: Either?
- 4:16Speaker 1: I mean I kind of noticed, like obviously in the
- 4:18Speaker 1: second set, she I really broke her so many times
- 4:22Speaker 1: and I could have held and maybe if I hold
- 4:26Speaker 1: one time at four to two or at four to
- 4:28Speaker 1: make it four to three instead of five to two,
- 4:31Speaker 1: could be different. But yeah, I think when I, you know,
- 4:35Speaker 1: most players, I feel like when they have the lead,
- 4:37Speaker 1: they kind of, especially against me, kind of get a
- 4:40Speaker 1: little bit tight. And that show today. But obviously when
- 4:45Speaker 1: you kind of like lose a lead, I've been in
- 4:48Speaker 1: that position and you're playing from behind, you're a lot
- 4:50Speaker 1: more freeer because you're just like whatever. And I think
- 4:53Speaker 1: I need to have that same mentality when I'm in
- 4:56Speaker 1: behind playing like that to get back into the lead,
- 5:00Speaker 1: and I need to figure out how to make that
- 5:03Speaker 1: mental switch of keeping that level of play when I
- 5:06Speaker 1: do have the league, because I think I five two
- 5:09Speaker 1: to six five, I played great, and after that the
- 5:12Speaker 1: tiebreaker was really bad.
- 5:15Speaker 2: This is your second time being defending champion at a major,
- 5:18Speaker 2: just wondering how much, if at all, that sort of
- 5:20Speaker 2: status affected how how you played.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I mean, I think at US Open it did a
- 5:26Speaker 1: lot more, but honestly, this time it didn't. I wasn't
- 5:30Speaker 1: really nervous. I was nervous in my first round, but
- 5:33Speaker 1: after that, I wasn't really nervous going into today, and
- 5:37Speaker 1: I wasn't really thinking about it. I think I learned
- 5:39Speaker 1: from my US Open experience, so I don't really think
- 5:41Speaker 1: it played a result like I played a part in
- 5:45Speaker 1: the result today. Yeah, but I don't know. I think
- 5:49Speaker 1: that's what's more frustrating, because I felt like I learned
- 5:51Speaker 1: a lot from that US Open experience and am a
- 5:54Speaker 1: better player since then, and I just don't think I
- 5:57Speaker 1: portrayed that today
