- 0:30SPEAKER_04: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 0:33SPEAKER_04: I'm your host, Mike Wade, co-host over there in South Richmond.
- 0:35SPEAKER_04: Mike White.
- 0:36SPEAKER_04: Happy Thursday, my dude.
- 0:38SPEAKER_04: Happy Thursday.
- 0:39SPEAKER_04: Happy Conference Championship Week.
- 0:41SPEAKER_04: This week has flown by at an incredible pace.
- 0:44SPEAKER_04: I can't even begin to tell you.
- 0:46SPEAKER_04: I cannot believe it's I've been so busy this week.
- 0:47SPEAKER_04: I can't believe it's Friday.
- 0:49SPEAKER_04: Um, and I hope it's Friday in about an hour and a half, I should say.
- 0:52SPEAKER_04: Just wild.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's it's the season's flown by, and here we are, staring down the barrel of conference championship week, and you've got a Santa hat on.
- 1:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I got all Santa hat holiday cheer going on.
- 1:09SPEAKER_04: It is the season, effectively, as of uh yesterday or today.
- 1:13SPEAKER_04: Uh is is Christmas time, so might as well get the Christmas spirit.
- 1:16SPEAKER_04: Uh what's new with you, man?
- 1:18SPEAKER_04: When was the last time we spoke?
- 1:18SPEAKER_04: What's what do you what do you got going on?
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Ooh, last time we spoke.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Um recovering from COVID.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Yep, we're we're done.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: We're negative Nancy's over here.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Amen to that.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: And yeah, we're we're blasting into the Christmas season for us.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't know.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: And that's that's it, really.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we just got a Christmas tree tonight, and uh it's getting a little cheery around here.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: That's what's up.
- 1:45SPEAKER_04: That's what's up.
- 1:46SPEAKER_04: My report's pretty similar.
- 1:47SPEAKER_04: So as most of you know, listeners, no, my wife is expecting number three um actually any day.
- 1:52SPEAKER_04: She's actually she was actually full term since the last time we recorded.
- 1:55SPEAKER_04: So, really, it could be if my wife walks in here in the middle of our show.
- 1:58SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm gonna go ahead and preemptively apologize for not finishing the show.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: No, we're gonna we're gonna I will coach you through this.
- 2:04SPEAKER_04: All right, never mind.
- 2:05SPEAKER_04: I'll put mic on speaker, we'll drive the hospital, we'll finish the show after I will deliver this baby via it might get a little weird, but it'll be there'll be a different episode, but that's that's that's what's happening.
- 2:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so we've been just in heavy Christmas and planning mode.
- 2:18SPEAKER_04: The reason this week has gone so fast is because literally I've spent every single day like unpacking baby stuff, rearranging it, getting the nursery ready, like all this stuff.
- 2:27SPEAKER_04: I built my new garage office and I saw I put some pictures in the in the Patreon, the Discord.
- 2:32SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm building, I'm I'm currently in our fourth bedroom, which has been my office for the last couple of years.
- 2:38SPEAKER_04: It believe it or not, it has to go back to being a bedroom here pretty soon.
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: So I have to go to a new place.
- 2:43SPEAKER_04: So I built this garage office, which I'm really excited about, this big platform.
- 2:47SPEAKER_04: Um, so between Are you putting walls on that?
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: You putting railings?
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: What's what's that?
- 2:51SPEAKER_04: No, right now, right now it's just like a platform, it's a stage, and I'm gonna put I'm gonna put some uh carpet down, I'm gonna put some blackout curtains, I'm gonna have Xfinity out there to make the make sure the internet's super fast out there.
- 3:02SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna hang my lights and microphone.
- 3:04SPEAKER_04: I'm just gonna build a studio out there.
- 3:06SPEAKER_04: Um, the garage is like pretty much insulated and it's like nice and elevated.
- 3:09SPEAKER_04: So I got all my like storage stuff under it.
- 3:13SPEAKER_04: So it's kind of it's kind of because my garage has these these ridiculous 15-foot ceilings for no reason.
- 3:17SPEAKER_04: So my we'll have a nest.
- 3:19SPEAKER_04: It'll be like exactly a little perch.
- 3:21unknown: Yeah.
- 3:22SPEAKER_04: So I'm excited.
- 3:22SPEAKER_04: I'm excited.
- 3:23SPEAKER_04: That's what I've been really doing.
- 3:24SPEAKER_04: Like hardcore, it's just like getting this house just in crazy change with rigor.
- 3:29SPEAKER_04: Um I saw you have a I saw I saw you had a beer in your hand.
- 3:31SPEAKER_04: What's what are you drinking tonight?
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm drinking a Hardywood Christmas morning.
- 3:37SPEAKER_04: Hardywood Christmas morning?
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 3:40SPEAKER_04: In a can?
- 3:42SPEAKER_04: In a can they do them in cans now.
- 3:43SPEAKER_04: Oh, I've never seen that.
- 3:44SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's dope.
- 3:45SPEAKER_04: I like the like the video game graphics a little bit.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so for the listeners, it's basically um one of the variations of the gingerbread stout, except it's got a coffee blend in it.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: So it's it's really good.
- 3:59SPEAKER_04: I actually like that one.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: It cuts the because gingerbread stuff.
- 4:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I like the less sweet.
- 4:06SPEAKER_04: And the Christmas morning one's definitely less sweet.
- 4:08SPEAKER_04: The coffee kind of cuts it a little bit.
- 4:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:09SPEAKER_04: And gives a little more caffeine, gives you a little kick, a little pipe, a little spike.
- 4:13SPEAKER_04: So I like that.
- 4:14SPEAKER_04: I like that too.
- 4:15SPEAKER_04: Um, so keep supporting local man.
- 4:17SPEAKER_04: Love that.
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: Uh, I am drinking, uh, in order of our uh Charlottesville Brethren, I am drinking Champion Brewing Company, Cavalier Lager.
- 4:26SPEAKER_04: This is a beer by Champion, which is a brewery in Charlottesville that they partnered with UVA to make.
- 4:31SPEAKER_04: And it's called the Cavalier Lager.
- 4:33SPEAKER_04: It's got blue and orange all over it, wahoo, all the things.
- 4:37SPEAKER_04: And I saw this at the store when I was in Crozet for Charlotte uh for Thanksgiving with my uh in-laws, and I I was like, I'm I have to have a six-pack of this so I can drink it on the podcast.
- 4:46SPEAKER_04: So here we are drinking my caval cavalier lagers for my four of the wahoos here for you guys.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: So yeah, Star Hill and Charlottesville also does a wahoo pale ale.
- 4:56SPEAKER_04: They do.
- 4:57SPEAKER_04: I almost bought that.
- 4:58SPEAKER_04: I saw that as well.
- 4:59SPEAKER_04: I wanted the lager, so I got that.
- 5:00SPEAKER_04: So there's like three co-opted beers for UVA.
- 5:04SPEAKER_04: Good for them.
- 5:05SPEAKER_04: I haven't I haven't had an LSU brew yet or a Tennessee beer yet.
- 5:08SPEAKER_04: Um the Hokies have one too.
- 5:10SPEAKER_04: They got a Hardywood beer, so I'm waiting for waiting for LSU to get their turn.
- 5:13SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 5:13SPEAKER_04: Are there any volunteer brews out there?
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: Not that I'm aware of.
- 5:17SPEAKER_04: Well, there should be.
- 5:18SPEAKER_04: That's a damn shame.
- 5:19SPEAKER_04: I can I know at least one buyer, probably multiple for that matter.
- 5:22SPEAKER_04: Um, anyway, very cool.
- 5:23SPEAKER_04: All right, let's jump in right now.
- 5:25SPEAKER_04: So the big piece of news, obviously, right now, is a lot of hirings and firings with with coaches.
- 5:29SPEAKER_04: And we are still in the midst of that.
- 5:30SPEAKER_04: We don't know where Deion Sanders is gonna go as a hot name, but three of the big jobs, probably on, I mean, Mike, you could push back on me, probably the three biggest jobs this year: Nebraska, Wisconsin, and um Auburn have all come up and they've all been hired.
- 5:44SPEAKER_04: Hugh Freeze, uh, who is a controversial uh coach, uh but a winning coach, which it seems what people care about most, um, from Liberty took the job at Auburn.
- 5:54SPEAKER_04: Uh, thumbs up, thumbs down, what do you take on that hire?
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: Well, I think it's an excellent hire from a win-loss perspective.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: I think he's paid his dues.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: I don't think anybody would would gnash any teeth from my perspective at this point.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: I mean, he he's been at Liberty for what four years now?
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's been in in coaching purgatory, you know.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, and he's done it at a Christian school.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: So um he has earned the right to come back to a big time program.
- 6:27SPEAKER_04: I think you're right, frankly, because also you have to remember that he what he he lost his job for his off-the-field stuff.
- 6:32SPEAKER_04: He had all miss trending up when he got like when he got unceremoniously fired.
- 6:37SPEAKER_04: So I think everybody who's around the guy, and and this continued to be true liberty, is just thinks he's a winning quarterback.
- 6:43SPEAKER_04: And I think at the end of the day, all Auburn really cares about, thank you, Scripts Bank coach.
- 6:48SPEAKER_04: All Auburn really cares about, and if we're being honest, probably our teams and a lot of other teams, the SEC and Big Ten as well, all they really care about is winning.
- 6:54SPEAKER_04: And he's a winning coach, so good for him to get back to that.
- 6:56SPEAKER_04: I mean, I mean, SC West Point's.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: All they care about is winning, but he you he's earned a right to have another shot.
- 7:04SPEAKER_04: I mean, I guess, yeah.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's got I mean, whatever blowback should your career forever be crossed in the toilet because of a mistake that you made.
- 7:15SPEAKER_04: I mean, no, I guess not, but I don't know, but I don't know but who decides what like have you been punished enough?
- 7:20SPEAKER_04: Like, what's enough of like what like where is the line of like I you know I don't that's all arbitrary to me.
- 7:26SPEAKER_04: I guess so.
- 7:27SPEAKER_04: Um I just know that I know that Auburn they want to win, so they got a winning coach.
- 7:31SPEAKER_04: Good for them.
- 7:32SPEAKER_04: They're gonna get some blowback.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: And the question is there's I'm saying if you're a fan of all, if you're a fan of Auburn, are you saying Oh, if I'm a fan of Auburn, I'd I can't forgive him for the for what he's doing.
- 7:42SPEAKER_04: No, I'm definitely no, I'm not saying that.
- 7:43SPEAKER_04: In fact, if I'm an Auburn fan, I'd be I would be happy because I mean honestly I'm a college football fan.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: Because he didn't do anything wrong for the football program, technically.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is all off the field stuff.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, for those of you who don't know, he used the the university's phone um to purchase hookers, escorts of the other of such.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: So it's all it's ethical, it's ethical issues.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: Um and if he's learned his lesson, I mean he's a grown man, they've done their vetting.
- 8:12SPEAKER_04: I mean, yeah, it's helpful, it's helpful, but he didn't, you know, he didn't he didn't harm any players, he didn't, you know, like there's there's no other you're right, is this really just about like him just doing some cruddy things, not representing old miss well, and across the line where old miss was like, you gotta go because you crossed that line so so bad.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: And they're clearly keeping him under a tight leash.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, they've given part of his contract is he doesn't control his own social media.
- 8:35SPEAKER_04: I saw that.
- 8:36SPEAKER_04: He can't control his own Twitter account.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: So it's not like they I mean they trust him to coach football, and I'm sure they've got I'm sure they're I'm sure they're gonna keep an eye on him.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Um but he's proven that he at least can handle himself.
- 8:52SPEAKER_04: If you're a winning coach, college football has proven time and time again that there is a path to redemption.
- 8:57SPEAKER_04: So I don't know why this would be different.
- 8:58SPEAKER_04: So I mean, I you're and the more I think about it, no, you're right.
- 9:00SPEAKER_04: He has earned another shot to get back.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: But I mean, I mean, not just college football.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: If this if he was like the CEO of a lesser, you know, company or or or a Fortune 500 company, he would certainly get a shot, you know, again five years later at another big time company.
- 9:19SPEAKER_04: You're probably right.
- 9:20SPEAKER_04: Talent is talent.
- 9:21SPEAKER_04: Uh so other big pieces, other big pieces of job news that are we I think Mike and I both really love these hires.
- 9:25SPEAKER_04: Uh Matt Rule, uh former Baylor coach, went to the uh Carolina Panthers, NFL, pretty much bombed there for about a year and a half.
- 9:32SPEAKER_04: Um, took the job at Nebraska.
- 9:34SPEAKER_04: Uh, I'll go ahead and offer my take first.
- 9:36SPEAKER_04: I love it.
- 9:37SPEAKER_04: Uh, I think he's I think he's I think he likes rebuilding.
- 9:40SPEAKER_04: I think Nebraska is a place where they've been desperate for life again.
- 9:43SPEAKER_04: I think Matt Rule is gonna go in there, being able to energize.
- 9:46SPEAKER_04: So I'm pretty high on the Matt Rule higher.
- 9:48SPEAKER_04: Any takes on that one?
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think it's a great fit for them.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: And um I think he wants to get back and prove himself.
- 9:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think so too.
- 9:57SPEAKER_04: I think I think frankly, his his very brief NFL career could not have gone worse than it did.
- 10:02SPEAKER_04: So I think he's ready to come to the city.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: Oh, we've seen this before uh from college football coaches going up and trying their hand at the NFL and still being fantastic college football coaches uh when they return.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: And he had Temple performing at an extremely high level.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: Now he's gonna have more resources, more recruiting, he's gonna have NIL, he's gonna have that NFL, you know, stuff that he can drop.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, but he's gonna do well.
- 10:28SPEAKER_04: No, I'm I'm expecting I'm expecting him to do better than Frosted, which isn't saying much, but I know I think he could have, I don't think he'll have them competitive.
- 10:34SPEAKER_04: We saw, I mean, Pete Carroll, Nick Saban, Lane Kiffin, just off the top of my head, we've seen coaches who were good, great college coaches, went to the NFL, didn't really work out, went back to college, and have continued to win at a high level.
- 10:45SPEAKER_04: So, I mean, I'm I kind of think Rat Matt Rule was gonna pick off where he left off.
- 10:48SPEAKER_04: Other other job, and I think might might end up being, you know, we're gonna we're gonna have this conversation three or four years from now, and we're gonna look back at this conversation.
- 10:56SPEAKER_04: The crown jewel hire of this one might be the Wisconsin job.
- 10:59SPEAKER_04: Luke Fickle.
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: Luke Fickle was a former coach at Cincinnati.
- 11:02SPEAKER_04: Before that, he was an assistant in Ohio State for like a bajillion years in that system, is now the head coach in Wisconsin.
- 11:08SPEAKER_04: Um here's my hot take.
- 11:09SPEAKER_04: I think the best coach in Ohio is not Ryan Day, is Luke Fickle.
- 11:13SPEAKER_04: And I think Ohio State fans kind of knew it, and they just and they just took their backup plan, and now he's coaching for Wisconsin.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Well, he's a great fit there, too.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's done a tremendous job at Cincinnati, obviously.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, but what he and and he's had them consistently winning and he's done it the right way.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: He's done it with lesser talent, and what his brand of football is fits very well with what they want to do and what they've done traditionally.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: He plays good defense, he wins in the trenches.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Um, he's he's he just he knows how to run a football program.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: And uh yeah, I think he he could have taken a job last year and he waited for the job that fit best for him.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: And I think this is a slam dunk for both parties.
- 12:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think so too.
- 12:37SPEAKER_04: And he's also he's also done a really good job of handling quarterbacks.
- 12:39SPEAKER_04: I mean, I'm really I was really impressed with what he did with Desmond Ritter, turned him into a top uh NFL quarterback prospect as well.
- 12:45SPEAKER_04: Um, I think he's gonna, I think whoever he's whoever he gets under center at Wisconsin, he's gonna do really well with it.
- 12:50SPEAKER_04: I mean, Sauce Gardner is one of the might have been the steal of the draft last year.
- 12:54SPEAKER_04: He's one of the best defensive backs um in the NFL, and he came out of Cincinnati.
- 12:57SPEAKER_04: So yeah, Luke Fickle has proven that he can um, if not develop them develop them himself, get coordinators and position coaches in place with that as well.
- 13:06SPEAKER_04: So I actually think Luke Fickle, hot take, that might be the crown jewel of these three hires, all of which I'm bullish on.
- 13:12SPEAKER_04: I think all of them are gonna do really well on fields.
- 13:14SPEAKER_04: I think fickle might be the best.
- 13:16SPEAKER_04: So we'll see.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they all they all kind of had their guy targeted, they got the process rolling early.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, the Auburn, the writing was on the wall for weeks and weeks and weeks, and um, all these back channel things were were in process for a long time.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: And um, yeah, they all handled the search the right way.
- 13:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, agreed.
- 13:38SPEAKER_04: Uh, very cool.
- 13:39SPEAKER_04: So now we're gonna talk about a little bit about what happened last week.
- 13:41SPEAKER_04: Although, and since it's already Thursday, you're right, you're gonna hear this Friday morning.
- 13:44SPEAKER_04: Uh, I'm assure management, you already know.
- 13:46SPEAKER_04: So we're gonna move kind of quick.
- 13:48SPEAKER_04: We'll start.
- 13:48SPEAKER_04: We always start off the top.
- 13:50SPEAKER_04: Number one, Georgia, Georgia Tech.
- 13:51SPEAKER_04: Georgia play with their food for a minute, end up winning by 23.
- 13:54SPEAKER_04: They are all systems go.
- 13:55SPEAKER_04: Finish the season 12 and 0 uh for the second time in a row.
- 13:58SPEAKER_04: Um, and they're gonna place LSU in the SEC Championship.
- 14:01SPEAKER_04: Um, they're awesome, they're the best team in the country.
- 14:04SPEAKER_04: Continue to show that.
- 14:05SPEAKER_04: Anything?
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, Georgia Tech is not very good.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: Georgia's very good, and keep on rolling.
- 14:12SPEAKER_04: Keep on rolling.
- 14:12SPEAKER_04: Uh, number two versus number three, number two, Ohio State.
- 14:15SPEAKER_04: This is the game probably give the most attention because uh this was one of the best games of the year.
- 14:20SPEAKER_04: Uh, number three, Michigan goes into Columbus, goes in the shoe, knocks off number two, Ohio State, and just an awesome game.
- 14:27SPEAKER_04: Awesome, awesome game.
- 14:28SPEAKER_04: If it weren't for LSU Tigers losing so bad, I would have been on cloud nine just for this game.
- 14:33SPEAKER_04: I saw this game coming a mile away.
- 14:35SPEAKER_04: It happened exactly the way I thought it was gonna happen.
- 14:38SPEAKER_04: Well, I thought true.
- 14:39SPEAKER_04: Uh it did not happen anymore.
- 14:42SPEAKER_04: The results, the result was what I thought the result would be.
- 14:45SPEAKER_04: How Michigan won is definitely not what I thought was gonna happen.
- 14:48SPEAKER_04: Um, there has been uh so sorry, I get to the point.
- 14:52SPEAKER_04: Michigan beat Ohio State 45, 223 in Columbus.
- 14:56SPEAKER_04: First time winning in Columbus since Mike and I were in high school.
- 15:00SPEAKER_04: And those of you don't know us, just tell you, only tell you, that was a long time ago.
- 15:04SPEAKER_04: Uh what do you got?
- 15:05SPEAKER_04: Give me your give me your give me your hot takes.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: Well, the reason I'm so impressed with this win, um, and you did call it, uh, but it wasn't the reason I'm so impressed with it is because it didn't happen the way that we all predicted if this was going to happen, it would happen, which is what you said.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: They did it through the air, they did it through chunk plays, um they flexed their muscle on offense, and it wasn't with Blake Coram, who was injured, it was with the pass game.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: They threw all over Ohio State, and um they just did whatever they wanted to do on offense.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: And Ohio State let me say this too not to take anything away from Michigan, this was a very, very impressive win for Michigan.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: They looked way better than I thought.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Ohio State laid an egg.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Ohio State had all they they had one other game to prepare for the entire season, basically.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then they had Michigan at home circled since last year, and they got blown out.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, they got this this was Michigan does not have that much more talent than Ohio State.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: They don't there's no reason for this game to be this lopsided.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: There's no excuse.
- 16:22SPEAKER_04: No, I I mean I would argue I think Iowa State has more talent than Michigan.
- 16:25SPEAKER_04: I think if you look at the recruiting classes, it would be on paper pretty clear.
- 16:28SPEAKER_04: Um, a couple things.
- 16:29SPEAKER_04: JJ McCarthy played way better than I thought he was.
- 16:32SPEAKER_04: You're totally right about that.
- 16:33SPEAKER_04: Blake Korm, obviously, he tried to go, he carried the ball twice, he wasn't the same guy.
- 16:37SPEAKER_04: Um, the first half, uh, they were kind of going blow for blow, but I just it just kind of felt like Michigan was always on the precipice of kind of blowing it open.
- 16:46SPEAKER_04: And frankly, I want to give Jim Harbaugh a ton of credit.
- 16:49SPEAKER_04: He just outcoached Ryan Day on both sides of the ball.
- 16:52SPEAKER_04: He they just he just beat him in every respect.
- 16:55SPEAKER_04: And now is the weird thing.
- 16:56SPEAKER_04: We've been, you know, you and I have lived through virtually 20 uh 15 years of Ohio State dominance in what is one of the most storied franchise in college football.
- 17:04SPEAKER_04: It has shifted.
- 17:06SPEAKER_04: You know, last year, winning at home, cool.
- 17:08SPEAKER_04: That's your rival you hate, you get up for one game, anybody can do that.
- 17:12SPEAKER_04: Doing it twice against a better team in their house the way they did it.
- 17:17SPEAKER_04: If you're an Ohio State fan right now, you're looking at Ryan Day saying, How did you let this happen?
- 17:23SPEAKER_04: And Luke Fickle, your backup plan just took the job at Wisconsin.
- 17:27SPEAKER_04: CJ Stroud is gone, they're going back to Ann Arbor next year.
- 17:30SPEAKER_04: It's just crazy.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: It's it's gotta be a little bit of panic, though.
- 17:34SPEAKER_04: It's gotta be a little bit of panic, which is crazy because you know, as you and I will talk about later in the show, they might go to the playoffs this year, even still sitting at number five.
- 17:41SPEAKER_04: They still might back themselves in.
- 17:43SPEAKER_04: I don't think they will.
- 17:44SPEAKER_04: I don't think they will.
- 17:45SPEAKER_04: I don't think they will.
- 17:46SPEAKER_04: But if you're if it's what what's been what this game made clear to me was that there is a discrepancy on the sidelines, and Michigan has a massive advantage over Ohio State in the coaching ranks.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: I think I think that's an easy knee-jerk reaction.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Um Jim Harbaugh has had that monkey on his back for many, many years.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: And last year was the first time that he exercised those demons.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: Uh they were they I mean, if he didn't win last year, we might have been talking about Jim Harbaugh being on the hot seat this year.
- 18:23SPEAKER_04: True.
- 18:23SPEAKER_04: It's also yeah, it's also worth mentioning that guy really wanted the Mice in a Vikings job last year.
- 18:27SPEAKER_04: Didn't get it.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: So he was one foot out the door.
- 18:30SPEAKER_04: One foot out the door came back and still beat Ohio State.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I think that there's question marks um on Ohio State.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: I think it's really easy to have that reaction.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: I think for me, I'm not really questioning the coaching as much as um I don't know.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: I I do think there's there's a shift in in the power, you know, dynamic.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: Um, but that's just what happens when you have two in a row.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: Um and that's the way it should feel for Ohio State fans.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the way that big rivalries go.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: That's the way this sport is laid out to be.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: I think for me, the biggest sort of takeaway is just like this should have been a close game.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: And you haven't seen Michigan's offense do what they did like they did to Ohio State.
- 19:17SPEAKER_04: No, they obviously brought something to the playbook, and JJ McCarthy went above and beyond.
- 19:20SPEAKER_04: He he only uh completed 12 passes for two or I mean, when you're compete when you're completing 60, 70 yard plays, you know, you only have to complete like 10 or 12 of them.
- 19:28SPEAKER_04: He only completed 12 balls, 263 yards, ran the ball 627 yards.
- 19:32SPEAKER_04: He was just so multiple.
- 19:33SPEAKER_04: He was able to spread out and do so many things, and he was able to get to the edge.
- 19:37SPEAKER_04: The and on the other side of the ball, Ohio State put up 500 yards of offense.
- 19:43SPEAKER_04: Like it wasn't like Michigan shut them down.
- 19:45SPEAKER_04: The thing for me, the thing that I don't understand is that Ohio State brought in Jim Knowles, former defensive coordinator of Oklahoma State, who I'm still super bullish on.
- 19:54SPEAKER_04: I think he's an awesome coordinator, and they gave him five stars everywhere, all over that defense.
- 20:00SPEAKER_04: And it just has been a bad, mediocre, not good enough unit by their standards by any means, unless they're playing a team that stinks, frankly.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: Well, I kind of think um that this was a situation where I mean we we know that college football is all about matchups, and we know that Michigan's MO has been run the ball, run the ball, run the ball all year long.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I kind of think Ohio State was like, we know what happened last year, we know like there's no way we're gonna let them run the ball like that, like they did last year.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: And then Michigan was like, hey, we're gonna throw it.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: And they weren't ready for that.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they had guys running wide open deep in the secondary, they had one-on-one coverage on the outside, and they made they had they had guys making plays and beating, they had guys winning one-on-one matchups, and the safeties weren't there to to help because they were worried about the run.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that's what we saw, and they didn't adjust.
- 20:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and there was a there was a couple of single single coverage guys with Ohio State man just took a terrible angle, guessed wrong.
- 21:05SPEAKER_04: Um, just uh out of it was just poor technique.
- 21:08SPEAKER_04: You just it just seemed like they got beat a bunch.
- 21:11SPEAKER_04: Um, I want to one one thing, one more point I will say um before I move on.
- 21:14SPEAKER_04: I was I was a little skeptical on how good Ohio State's receivers were.
- 21:18SPEAKER_04: I was wrong.
- 21:19SPEAKER_04: They are very, very good.
- 21:20SPEAKER_04: Marvin Harrison Harrison Jr., Amika Abugba, we all you know about Jack Smith Majigma.
- 21:26SPEAKER_04: Those guys are awesome.
- 21:27SPEAKER_04: They still, I mean, despite even the loss, yeah, they caught some balls.
- 21:30SPEAKER_04: They made some plays that like they're those guys are all playing on Sunday.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, they're amazing.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: I don't know why you're skeptical skeptical.
- 21:38SPEAKER_04: I guess well, I mean the reason I was skeptical was because they I mean, I mean, like they played a decent Notre Dame defense, a pretty solid Penn State defense, but then like nobody could who could punch back except for Michigan, and Michigan obviously did punch back, and Michigan is a is a good defensive team, probably top three or four defense in the country, frankly.
- 21:58SPEAKER_04: And those Ohio State receivers just balled out.
- 22:01SPEAKER_04: And I didn't I didn't think that was gonna happen.
- 22:03SPEAKER_04: I thought Michigan, Mission secondary was gonna hold their own, and whatever, they got the win, they won by three touchdowns.
- 22:08SPEAKER_04: I can't be that critical of them.
- 22:09SPEAKER_04: I just no, I mean I just want to give Ohio State receivers more credit.
- 22:12SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm sorry, maybe I'm late to the show.
- 22:14SPEAKER_04: Everyone knew this back in August.
- 22:15SPEAKER_04: I'm now I'm now realizing they are all really good as well.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: I am late to I mean, I'm not late to the show, but I am proven wrong for now on Michigan.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Here's the thing though there's a reason I'm proven wrong.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: Michigan didn't play anybody all year long.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: We didn't we don't know what Michigan's capable of because they didn't have to show it.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: So I'm still I'm not I'm not I'm not ready to eat crow on anything because it's not my fault that Michigan only had to play one game this year.
- 22:46SPEAKER_04: Two Penn State's a good team.
- 22:47SPEAKER_04: Penn State's a top 10 team, but two.
- 22:49SPEAKER_04: I'll be honest.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: Penn State is a good team, but like you get what I'm saying.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: When you have to show up twice in a year, yeah, we don't know who you are.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: We just don't know what you're capable of.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: Michigan never had to throw the ball.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: Michigan never had to open up the playbook.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: Michigan never had to play in an offensive juggernaut like Ohio State.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: Penn State is boring on offense.
- 23:10SPEAKER_04: Here's a question for you.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: Is Michigan the second best team in the country?
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: I think so.
- 23:15SPEAKER_04: I think so too.
- 23:16SPEAKER_04: I think so too.
- 23:17SPEAKER_04: Which what but I but I agree with you, it wasn't really, it was not that was not clear until uh till Saturday.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: So no, uh this is like the conversation that you have in like week three on a team that's ranked number two.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 23:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I agree.
- 23:31SPEAKER_04: I agree.
- 23:31SPEAKER_04: Uh let's keep it rolling.
- 23:32SPEAKER_04: Uh number four, TCU beat the breaks off Iowa State.
- 23:35SPEAKER_04: They are full steam ahead going to the Big 12 championship against K-State.
- 23:38SPEAKER_04: I don't have anything there.
- 23:39SPEAKER_04: I don't watch this game.
- 23:39SPEAKER_04: You have anything you want to add on that one?
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: Um, I watched it a little bit.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: Um not really.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: Um TCU continues to look really good.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: Ohio State is a capable team, and TCU took care of business, um, which they should at this point.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: So uh that was nice.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that's a good win.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: Ohio State is a is a is a capable opponent.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: So Iowa State, yeah, totally.
- 24:02SPEAKER_04: Uh uh saying the Big 12, which comes to us the soup by conference.
- 24:06SPEAKER_04: Uh, number 12, K-State took it of in-state rival, uh Kansas 12.
- 24:10SPEAKER_04: Uh, hey, great year for Kansas, six and six, really happy for the Jayhawks, Lance Leopold.
- 24:15SPEAKER_04: Um, Will Howard, the guy who's taken over for the quarterback of K-State, is flat out good.
- 24:20SPEAKER_04: Don't be surprised if K-State ends up getting revenge for their loss in the Big 12 championship next week, which we'll talk about in a minute.
- 24:26SPEAKER_04: Uh, but K-State rolled, ended up winning by 20.
- 24:28SPEAKER_04: Anything about the Kansas matchup you want to you want to add?
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: Um, not a whole lot.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: I I think Kansas State is very good.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: I think Kansas is is still a you know a solid team.
- 24:39SPEAKER_04: Six and six, baby.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Six and six Jayhawks, baby.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think they're better than six and six.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: I think a lot has been made about how the Big 12 is not a very good um conference this year, especially when you're talking about TCU's resume.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Um I think the Big 12 is is is is pretty solid top to bottom.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: I think what you're looking what you're looking at is is a conference that doesn't have your one or two teams that are extremely good, right, and then a lot of middling opponents.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: I think you've got a very competitive league.
- 25:14SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 25:15SPEAKER_04: No, I agree.
- 25:15SPEAKER_04: I would actually say that Big 12 is probably the third best conference in the country, maybe second, because the Big Ten is so, so top heavy.
- 25:21SPEAKER_04: Um, after the you know, I've the Big 12 is just quality top to bottom.
- 25:25SPEAKER_04: Although, you know, we're we talk about TCU like they're not some super team, they get two more wins.
- 25:29SPEAKER_04: We're gonna have to change our tune.
- 25:30SPEAKER_04: They actually may end up might be able to do that.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: That's the national commentary.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: I think nobody wants to give TCU their their due.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: And I think that they deserve, I mean, we slept on them for a little while, but we slept on them while we were championing so many of these other teams in the Big 12, and TCU undefeated.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: I think the Big 12 is a strong league.
- 25:50SPEAKER_04: No, I think I think it I think for quality top to bottom, it's as good as anyone.
- 25:55SPEAKER_04: I really do.
- 25:55SPEAKER_04: Maybe they don't have a Georgia or Michigan in their conference, but they but they have they have 10 well well-coached teams that will fight every weekend.
- 26:04SPEAKER_04: It's hard as hell to get through that conference.
- 26:05SPEAKER_04: So credit to that.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: So I'll say this compared to the Big Ten, if you're in Ohio State or Michigan, you've got to get through one, two big, big, big, big games each each year.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's so much harder to play really strong teams week after week after week after week and get through the year than it is to get up for two extremely tough games.
- 26:29SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 26:30SPEAKER_04: But I will say that's got that that model has kind of flipped itself.
- 26:32SPEAKER_04: Typically, uh Michigan State is better.
- 26:35SPEAKER_04: The big the Big Ten West was a whole league was a disaster.
- 26:38SPEAKER_04: Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska.
- 26:41SPEAKER_04: I'm just talking about this year.
- 26:42SPEAKER_04: No, no, I I told but you're I know I totally agree with you.
- 26:45SPEAKER_04: It's just funny that these these conferences this year have have flipped have flipped the script because in previous years, it's like Oklahoma and Texas, those your superpowers, and they got a bunch of pretty pretty much, you know, not very good teams that you can kind of beat up on.
- 26:58SPEAKER_04: Uh so kudos to Big 12, uh, TCU.
- 27:00SPEAKER_04: I'm eager to see them in the K-State rematch.
- 27:02SPEAKER_04: Uh let's keep it rolling.
- 27:04SPEAKER_04: Uh, Iron Bowl.
- 27:06SPEAKER_04: Hashtag Iron Bowl.
- 27:07SPEAKER_04: Uh, number seven, Alabama uh takes down Auburn 49-27.
- 27:11SPEAKER_04: Uh Auburn came out and scored first seven-nothing.
- 27:13SPEAKER_04: They got excited for Cadillac Williams.
- 27:14SPEAKER_04: They played hard, they're in great hands.
- 27:16SPEAKER_04: Alabama rolled.
- 27:18SPEAKER_04: Uh that's all it's gonna be weird not seeing Alabama next week, um, the SEC championship, but I'm also not gonna miss it.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: I don't think anybody will.
- 27:28SPEAKER_04: Uh number eight, Clemson.
- 27:30SPEAKER_04: This was the great, great game.
- 27:32SPEAKER_04: Number eight, Clemson gets upset by South Carolina.
- 27:36SPEAKER_04: I know you're not too yourself.
- 27:37SPEAKER_04: Big something fan right now.
- 27:38SPEAKER_04: 3130.
- 27:40SPEAKER_04: Um so many just ridiculous blunders by South Carolina, but kudos to Beamer, Shane Beamer, and Spencer Rattler to come out um back-to-back weeks talking knocking off two Giants.
- 27:54SPEAKER_04: Um, I know this is SECE's rival.
- 27:56SPEAKER_04: Go ahead.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Spencer Rattler.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: Um, where's this guy been?
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's all I've got to say, honestly.
- 28:03SPEAKER_04: Show up until Turkey Cat here.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: I so there's two takeaways here.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: Um, Spencer Rattler, this is what you should have been all year long.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Um also Clemson, I mean, this is just this is the Clemson team we have this year.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: Um they should they probably they had chances to win the game.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: Spencer Rattler played really well.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Um we they had some late blunders, a punt fumble, a punt return fumble, um, some some poor clock management at the end.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: That goofy kickoff thing.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean it just South Carolina's found a lot of ways to win this year, and um it's yeah, it was it was an interesting game.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: It was a weird one.
- 28:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 28:53SPEAKER_04: South Carolina is probably the best eight and four team in the country.
- 28:56SPEAKER_04: I mean, they've really you could you could really make a strong argument.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: Right now they're playing extremely well.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and which is I mean right now they're very dangerous.
- 29:03SPEAKER_04: I mean, obviously, you know, next year I I'm I'm inclined to think Spencer Rattler's probably gonna come back.
- 29:08SPEAKER_04: I don't think he's ready to go yet.
- 29:09SPEAKER_04: And that their their defense was terrible all year.
- 29:12SPEAKER_04: So if they improve and that offense continues to give gives you know give their team a chance, I mean South Carolina could be a force.
- 29:19SPEAKER_04: But obviously, forget all that.
- 29:21SPEAKER_04: South Carolina beats Clemson for the first time, first time in God knows how long.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: Um and it was losing their offensive coordinator.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: South Carolina's offensive coordinator is gone, um, which is funny.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: Uh, but he took an he took another job, which was like two weeks ago.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: They were calling for his head, and now he's gone, and they're wondering what they're gonna do.
- 29:45SPEAKER_04: It's tough.
- 29:46SPEAKER_04: It's you you don't know, you don't know how much you want something until it's gone, or it's like something.
- 29:51SPEAKER_04: I do always say that.
- 29:52SPEAKER_04: I do always say that.
- 29:53SPEAKER_04: So kudos to kudos to the cocks.
- 29:56SPEAKER_04: Uh all right, let's get this over.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, and speaking of that, I heard a rumor.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: Little birdie told me DJ Uyangolai, surprise, surprise, entering the transfer portal.
- 30:06SPEAKER_04: He is done.
- 30:07SPEAKER_04: I'm so glad you brought that up.
- 30:08SPEAKER_04: That was one of my takes.
- 30:09SPEAKER_04: I'm afraid to say it.
- 30:10SPEAKER_04: He's I'm that's that's his only way.
- 30:13SPEAKER_04: His time at Clemson is over.
- 30:15SPEAKER_04: Here's yeah, he it's it's Cade Club level.
- 30:17SPEAKER_04: Uh, he's you know, the he's the future.
- 30:19SPEAKER_04: I know Club Nick, whatever his name is.
- 30:21SPEAKER_04: I know he's not.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: Well club clubstep.
- 30:23SPEAKER_04: I kind of like that name for him.
- 30:24SPEAKER_04: Kind of club.
- 30:25SPEAKER_04: Club Club Bite, Club, Club, Club, Club, Club, Clubfoot.
- 30:28SPEAKER_04: Um, I he is yeah, he thought he should he showed some real freshman warts this year.
- 30:33SPEAKER_04: Um, but he also he's the five-star who's got talent.
- 30:36SPEAKER_04: He could get there, he's not there yet.
- 30:37SPEAKER_04: But DJU's time at Clemson is done.
- 30:40SPEAKER_04: I just he couldn't get it.
- 30:41SPEAKER_04: It's been too long.
- 30:42SPEAKER_04: He he laid an egg in this game.
- 30:45SPEAKER_04: He was terrible.
- 30:46SPEAKER_04: Um, Will Shipley tried to force this game to win, um, and just it didn't happen.
- 30:51SPEAKER_04: I wonder where DJU will end up, but I'm of course he's not gonna play.
- 30:54SPEAKER_04: I'm I don't think lovers play a game of Clemson ever again.
- 30:57SPEAKER_01: No, it's it's probably a good move for him.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: Um sometimes things just don't work out, yeah, aka Spencer Rattler, and you go somewhere else and you have a pretty good run, and you improve your stock and you you find a better fit schematically, and you find a better fit for you know I wonder if coaching staff.
- 31:17SPEAKER_04: I wonder if he'll go out to back west.
- 31:19SPEAKER_04: He's from he's from Maider D, I believe, with the the um our John or maybe St.
- 31:22SPEAKER_04: John Bosco, I can't remember.
- 31:24SPEAKER_04: One of the superpowers in Southern California.
- 31:26SPEAKER_04: I wonder if he wouldn't go back to like a Washington once Michael Penix moves on.
- 31:30SPEAKER_04: Um you know, DTR is gonna graduate, UCLA.
- 31:33SPEAKER_04: Uh, I wonder if there's not a Pac-12 coach who sees DJU, knows him from his youth, knows the physical tools, because DJU still has all those things.
- 31:41SPEAKER_04: He can still throw the ball a mile, he's a big, strong, physical kid.
- 31:44SPEAKER_04: I wonder if they're saying, come to us, play our system.
- 31:47SPEAKER_04: I wonder if he doesn't in a back west, is my is my guess.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised with that either.
- 31:53SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, that's probably a likely definition for him.
- 31:56SPEAKER_04: All right, let's get this over with.
- 31:57SPEAKER_04: Uh Texas AM.
- 31:59SPEAKER_04: Man, did they mess up my mess up my weekend?
- 32:01SPEAKER_04: 38, LSU 23.
- 32:04SPEAKER_04: Um, LSU was primed for a chance, even though let's face it, probably weren't gonna beat Georgia anyway, to crash the playoff party and Texas AM ripped it out from us.
- 32:12SPEAKER_04: Uh, Texas AM played out of their minds.
- 32:15SPEAKER_04: They had an outstanding game.
- 32:17SPEAKER_04: They they played their hair on fire.
- 32:18SPEAKER_04: Um, LSU slept walk.
- 32:20SPEAKER_04: They never showed up.
- 32:21SPEAKER_04: Defense was terrible.
- 32:22SPEAKER_04: Uh uh Devon A.
- 32:24SPEAKER_04: Chain, who is one of the best backs country, of course, had his career high day.
- 32:28SPEAKER_04: 38 carries, 215 yards, was unstoppable.
- 32:31SPEAKER_04: LSU just couldn't set the edge um at any point.
- 32:34SPEAKER_04: Uh Moose Mohammed, other true freshman, is an awesome receiver.
- 32:38SPEAKER_04: Connor Wagman is the is the is their uh true freshman quarterback who's definitely a true freshman, but he just continues to get better and will continue to get better.
- 32:47SPEAKER_04: Um for me, it just you know, LSU is not a championship level team this year.
- 32:54SPEAKER_04: It was fun to pretend we were when we beat Alabama in Ole Miss, and we, you know, we're looking at chat number five, but um this is what you know you talked about earlier, you were saying how great teams, it's harder to play good teams every week.
- 33:09SPEAKER_04: This is what the SEC is, and we LSU has too many flaws.
- 33:13SPEAKER_04: We couldn't, we couldn't, we couldn't sustain it for as long as we did, I think.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: Well, this is not unique to LSU.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: This is why it's hard to win a championship.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: Totally, especially when you have a new coach, a new a new regime, a new culture, and this is what happened in Tennessee too, quite frankly.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: Um, it's hard to get up every week and play, especially when you've got a lot of people patting you on the back, yeah, and when you haven't been there before.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: And these programs have been there before, but these kids have not been there before, and not with this coaching staff.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: And they don't know that you're going on the road to face a bad Texas AM team and it's their Super Bowl, and that that you're gonna get their best shot.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: Tennessee kids, they they thought South Carolina was gonna roll over, that they were gonna go into uh Columbus and and and and they were gonna roll over.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: And the you know, the Georgia program, they've been there, they know that.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: Alabama knows that, they see it.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: They've they've had kids on the sideline watch that for a few years before they've had to experience it.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: So they haven't had to take that lesson the hard way.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: And this is you know, it's it's a it's a letdown for both of us that probably I'm surprised took this long to happen.
- 34:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 34:38SPEAKER_04: No, I think it's funny.
- 34:39SPEAKER_04: I think if you talked to both of us in August, I said, Mike, you can take you can it's August right now, I'll give you 10 and 2 and second place in the East.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: Will you take it?
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: Probably would have said yes.
- 34:47SPEAKER_04: If you had told me I could have nine and three, won the West, and go in the SEC championship, I would have said, absolutely.
- 34:53SPEAKER_04: Both of us, I think.
- 34:54SPEAKER_04: Especially with Lindsay, Obama, yeah.
- 34:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think both of us are pretty happy with where our teams are in the grand scheme.
- 35:01SPEAKER_04: How we got there certainly had its highs and lows.
- 35:03SPEAKER_04: You would love to finish, you know, we would have loved to finish differently, but in the gram scheme of things, there's been a lot of parallels between Tennessee and LSU seasons.
- 35:10SPEAKER_04: I've been thinking about that all year.
- 35:12SPEAKER_04: And this was so, yeah.
- 35:13SPEAKER_04: I mean, everything you said, uh what happened Tennessee South Carolina game is exactly what happened to the tech Tech Synam.
- 35:19SPEAKER_04: Tech Synam is five and seven.
- 35:21SPEAKER_04: They're they're a patently bad team.
- 35:22SPEAKER_04: They're going to a bowl, and we just didn't show up.
- 35:24SPEAKER_04: They beat the pants off us.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: And not even this year.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is what's happened to our programs this year, but it took Georgia several years to get over the hump.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: It took Clemson.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: Remember the Clemsoning that we used to, everyone used to joke about everything.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, that took them several years to get over the hump.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: They're gonna but what I'm saying is these programs, you don't just win a national championship in year one or two.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: Like it takes nine and nine and three, it and ten and two, and eleven and one.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: It takes those seasons stacked on, stacked on, stacked before you have the talent, the depth, yeah, the the understanding of how to prepare for these games.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: That's what it takes, like in college football, to build a program that is capable of going through the gauntlet.
- 36:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, I totally agree.
- 36:11SPEAKER_04: And we don't have that much quality depth as well.
- 36:14SPEAKER_04: This is this is a super tough loss, super painful for LSU fans, obviously, because you know, there was, and I was I bought into this as well.
- 36:22SPEAKER_04: You know, I thought we were going, I mean, maybe maybe we could pull maybe beat Georgia, maybe we could see the playoff, maybe win the national championship.
- 36:29SPEAKER_04: Like, obviously, that's not that's gonna happen, and it's you know, the result isn't as shocking when you put that all in that perspective.
- 36:37SPEAKER_04: Um, and Texas AM is pound for pound still one of the most talented rosters in the country.
- 36:43SPEAKER_04: So, of course, they have the capability of showing up.
- 36:47SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm excited about it.
- 36:48SPEAKER_04: Um, I mean, I'm really glad we're playing LSU.
- 36:50SPEAKER_04: LSU is getting getting them at home next year because we're gonna need another year of depth, another year of quality, another year of 25 high school kids getting in there in the weight room and building this roster out, much like Tennessee is as well.
- 37:01SPEAKER_04: You know, I think we're both um really excited for 2023.
- 37:04SPEAKER_04: So that's pretty cool.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and you can do it a little bit quicker now with the transfer portal, obviously.
- 37:09SPEAKER_04: Yep, sure.
- 37:10SPEAKER_04: Uh very cool.
- 37:11SPEAKER_04: All right, let's keep it rolling.
- 37:12SPEAKER_04: Um, Oregon, Oregon State, the Civil War.
- 37:15SPEAKER_04: Uh, number 21, Oregon State upsets number nine, Oregon.
- 37:20SPEAKER_04: Uh game was 38-34.
- 37:23SPEAKER_04: Uh the Oregon State scored 21 points in the third, in the fourth quarter, excuse me.
- 37:29SPEAKER_04: This game was all it was 17 to 31.
- 37:32SPEAKER_04: Uh Oregon had a 14-point lead going to fourth.
- 37:35SPEAKER_04: Uh, Oregon State storms back, gets the win.
- 37:37SPEAKER_04: I did watch a little bit of this game.
- 37:39SPEAKER_04: Um, well, one kudos to Oregon State being your interstate rival is all, especially one that especially a team that's typically better and higher ranked and more talented, always feels so, so good.
- 37:49SPEAKER_04: Uh, two, um, Bo Nicks is not right.
- 37:52SPEAKER_04: He is hurt.
- 37:53SPEAKER_04: Uh, there was a number of plays where you could see him trying to like plant his foot and throw.
- 37:57SPEAKER_04: His ankle is still wrong from uh the UW game a while back.
- 38:01SPEAKER_04: Um, and he's he's not he's not or as good as Oregon is, as multiple as they are, as as good as Dan Lanning has those guys playing, they need full speed Bo Nicks, and they didn't have it today.
- 38:10SPEAKER_04: Or that right.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, this was one I think we both hit.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: I think that you know, we we had a feeling we we knew Bo Nicks was was banged up.
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: Um the more concerning thing for me is Dan Lanning's in-game management.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: Because we saw this in their last loss where they went against Washington, they went for it, it was like the head scratching, uh yeah, inexplicable fourth down try, right, on their own side.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: And he did some weird, really weird things that that really just made this a much easier comeback for Oregon State.
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: And if I'm an Oregon fan, I'm kind of starting to I'm kind of starting to wonder about him a little bit.
- 38:57SPEAKER_04: Well, you know, he's like the youngest, he's one of the youngest coaches in college football.
- 39:00SPEAKER_04: He's a former defensive coordinator at uh Georgia.
- 39:02SPEAKER_04: He's I mean, we talked about like we we just talked about like teams having to learn and build.
- 39:06SPEAKER_04: I think a little bit of that is him learning how to be a head coach.
- 39:10SPEAKER_04: To my knowledge, I think this is his first head coaching gig, at least um at the at the FBS level.
- 39:15SPEAKER_04: Um, so I I think there is something to be said about that.
- 39:19SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, how I just as an Oregon fan, losing losing to a losing a game in state rival, you had him on the ropes, you should have had that game won.
- 39:30SPEAKER_04: To lose like that in the fourth quarter is just tough.
- 39:33SPEAKER_04: That's uh that's brutal.
- 39:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I mean people are always gonna question going for it on fourth down when you don't make it, and times have changed.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: It's not automatic punt anymore.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: Um he's just he just does it in some weird situations.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: That's all I'll say.
- 39:52SPEAKER_04: He does.
- 39:52SPEAKER_04: And I was and frankly, I was Oregon State's defense.
- 39:55SPEAKER_04: Also, let's give them some credit.
- 39:56SPEAKER_04: I know they played, they face a wounded bone Knicks, but they they played above their weight class.
- 40:01SPEAKER_04: Oregon State's defense did a really good job to secure the win.
- 40:04SPEAKER_04: All right, three more.
- 40:05SPEAKER_04: We're gonna move kind of quick.
- 40:06SPEAKER_04: Uh, Penn State beats the breaks off of Michig of Michigan State.
- 40:09SPEAKER_04: Uh number 11 uh finish number 11.
- 40:12SPEAKER_04: Penn State finished 10 and 2.
- 40:13SPEAKER_04: The most clear case in any conference in any year of the third best team being clearly the third best team in the conference, Penn State University football.
- 40:24SPEAKER_04: Not as good as Michigan, Ohio State.
- 40:26SPEAKER_04: We know that for sure, but better than everybody else, very clearly.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: Um that is an extremely accurate take.
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: I've never seen it's I've never seen such a clear.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: Not very good.
- 40:37SPEAKER_04: I'll tell you, no, it's easy.
- 40:39SPEAKER_04: I mean, we've we you watch this football to know this.
- 40:41SPEAKER_04: It's easy to spot the number one team, it's easy to spot the number 12 team.
- 40:45SPEAKER_04: Those middle teams, because they're kind of like, well, you don't really know.
- 40:48SPEAKER_04: I've never seen a more clear-cut number three in the history of college football than Penn State this year.
- 40:52SPEAKER_04: Um, on their side, five and seven Michigan State.
- 40:55SPEAKER_04: Mel Tucker,$100 million man, not going to a bowl.
- 40:59SPEAKER_04: Ouch.
- 41:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 41:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: They're gonna they're gonna people in in Lansing.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: Um, that could be still about that.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: Not not that psyched.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: Not gonna love that.
- 41:10SPEAKER_04: Uh, Tennessee Vanderbilt blanked your boys 56 to zero.
- 41:14SPEAKER_04: Go ahead.
- 41:15SPEAKER_04: Tell me what you got.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: We didn't blank my boys.
- 41:17SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know what I mean.
- 41:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was a sloppy, super rainy game.
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: Joe Milton came in.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: I was excited to see him play, see what he could do.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: Um, but it was hard because the conditions were so bad.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: Um, but we got to see, I mean, we had so many guys out this game.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: Cedric Tillman out again, Brew McCoy out again.
- 41:37SPEAKER_01: We have five five guys in the secondary out for injury.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: Uh, so it was interesting.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, it was a kind of a worry going in, a little bit of a letdown game, um, and so many injuries across the board.
- 41:49SPEAKER_01: Uh, I mean, I've never seen that many guys out in the secondary on one team.
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: So just to see us blank even a Vandy was really nice.
- 41:57SPEAKER_01: Um, our run game.
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: We had runs of 53, 51, 83, and 82, or something like that.
- 42:07SPEAKER_01: We had like four four 50 plus run run um breakout runs.
- 42:15SPEAKER_01: Um, and Milton hit a really nice deep ball.
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: He still missed on some throws, so you'd like to see him clean that up.
- 42:21SPEAKER_01: But yeah, the defense played well.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: We responded to a lot of criticism.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, it was it was a good win.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: It was a nice way to kind of cap the regular season.
- 42:30SPEAKER_04: Well done.
- 42:30SPEAKER_04: Kudos to the Vols.
- 42:31SPEAKER_04: 10 and 2.
- 42:32SPEAKER_04: First, first was I mean, when's the last of the Vols had double digit regular season?
- 42:35SPEAKER_04: It's been 2003.
- 42:37SPEAKER_04: 2003, been a minute.
- 42:38SPEAKER_04: Kudos, welcome back.
- 42:40SPEAKER_04: Um well, I don't know why we say this game for last, but here we are.
- 42:44SPEAKER_04: Uh, number six, USC takes down number 15, Notre Dame.
- 42:47SPEAKER_04: I did not think this game was gonna go as way it did.
- 42:49SPEAKER_04: Uh, 38-27.
- 42:51SPEAKER_04: Uh Notre Dame.
- 42:52SPEAKER_04: Uh USC continues to win the way they always win, which is one, Caleb Williams.
- 42:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, one, Caleb Williams being the absolute man.
- 42:59SPEAKER_04: And I watched a lot of this game.
- 43:01SPEAKER_04: He is because the LSU game was just hurt my hurt my brain.
- 43:05SPEAKER_04: Caleb Williams is absolutely uh should be the runaway Heisman winner at this point.
- 43:09SPEAKER_04: Two, they keep getting so many damn turnovers.
- 43:13SPEAKER_04: And yes, they and you know, at this at this point, it they're 11 and one, they're playing for the Pac-12 championship, they're gonna win the Heisman.
- 43:20SPEAKER_04: If they beat Utah next week, which we'll talk about in a second, um, they're going to the playoffs.
- 43:24SPEAKER_04: You know, I you're right, it takes multiple years, unless somehow you're Lincoln Riley.
- 43:29SPEAKER_04: I don't know why he's the exception to our rule.
- 43:31SPEAKER_04: We're talking both sides of our mouths here.
- 43:33SPEAKER_04: Why?
- 43:33SPEAKER_04: So I'll just I'm gonna go ahead and ask you why is USC the exception to that?
- 43:37SPEAKER_04: How are they able to do what LSU and Tennessee couldn't?
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: Um that is a good question.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: Uh I don't know.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, my thoughts.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: I think maybe maybe it's it's the just the sheer amount of transfer talent that they brought in.
- 43:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, Jordan Addison won't be.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: Lincoln Riley's familiarity with Caleb Williams already.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, he basically brought in his own guy.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, I think uh it's a little bit of a different situation than the rebuild that Tennessee and LSU went through.
- 44:13SPEAKER_01: Um I mean, we lost like 36 guys to the transfer portal last year.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: You were in a similar situation this year.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: Um I don't know what USCs, I'm not as familiar with their roster.
- 44:25SPEAKER_01: I know how many guys they brought in and how many high-level guys that they brought in.
- 44:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, they were hitting on basically every big name that was out there.
- 44:33SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I don't know.
- 44:35SPEAKER_04: You know, I mean, I mean, I kind of think you well, one, they had some.
- 44:39SPEAKER_04: They they they don't not only did they bring in nice cars, they brought in Ferraris.
- 44:43SPEAKER_04: I mean, Jordan Addison won the Blitnikov.
- 44:44SPEAKER_04: He was the best receiver in the country.
- 44:45SPEAKER_04: Travis Dye, the running back from Oregon, was awesome until he got really hurt, which is really too bad.
- 44:49SPEAKER_04: And Caleb Williams is going to win the Heisman this year.
- 44:52SPEAKER_04: He has had a Heisman.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: You gotta have that first and foremost.
- 44:55SPEAKER_04: You gotta have that.
- 44:56SPEAKER_04: Um, so I think all of I think the high-end talent is probably more they they've brought in more high-end talent than Tennessee or LSU.
- 45:03SPEAKER_04: One.
- 45:03SPEAKER_04: Two, I'm you know, and you talk about the Big 12.
- 45:07SPEAKER_04: It's certainly true with the SEC, especially Tennessee's schedule, who takes against Alabama every year, and how good the East has been this year, and LSU.
- 45:15SPEAKER_04: USC, how many games did USC have to get up for this year?
- 45:18SPEAKER_04: I mean, it was more than two.
- 45:20SPEAKER_01: We talked about it, we talked about it pre-season.
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: Um and we knew it.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is the Pac-12 right now.
- 45:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, you've got the schedule is and it, and that's one of the things.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: I'm glad you brought it up because I didn't, you know, I didn't think about it right now when you asked me why.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: But when you've got half a season to kind of let these guys gel and figure out who your guys are and and you know, get things settled, that helps.
- 45:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, I mean, obviously, they they ended the season in a flurry.
- 45:51SPEAKER_04: UCLA, Notre Dame, and they're gonna play Utah next week.
- 45:53SPEAKER_04: Those are three impressive, flat out impressive wins they if they get them all.
- 45:57SPEAKER_04: But they're back loaded.
- 45:59SPEAKER_04: But they are backloaded for sure.
- 46:00SPEAKER_04: Um, I mean, Utah middle season, they lost that game.
- 46:03SPEAKER_04: And now they're gonna get a chance to redeem that loss.
- 46:05SPEAKER_04: But Rice, Stanford, Fresno, Arizona State, Washington State, uh, Colorado, California, Arizona, most of these teams are not putting fear.
- 46:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, most of these teams.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: They're not even they're not even capable of winning.
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: They're not they're not your middle-of-the-pack SEC teams.
- 46:21SPEAKER_01: They're terrible.
- 46:22SPEAKER_04: Those are bad teams.
- 46:23SPEAKER_04: I did I did quin I did quincly leave out at Oregon State, which happened to be the game they barely won, 17-14.
- 46:29SPEAKER_04: So the one challenge they had, they weren't up.
- 46:31SPEAKER_04: So my point is if US, what's let's just play a fun game.
- 46:34SPEAKER_04: What's USC's record with Tennessee's schedule this year?
- 46:38SPEAKER_01: This year?
- 46:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: Probably like 9-3.
- 46:46SPEAKER_04: I was gonna say nine and three as well.
- 46:47SPEAKER_04: I think it's about right.
- 46:48SPEAKER_04: I think they're I I they I think they slip up somewhere along the lines, especially the way, especially the way of foot the brand of football they play, which is just like live and live by the sword, die by the sword.
- 46:57SPEAKER_04: You can't get away with not playing defense in the SEC.
- 46:59SPEAKER_04: You just cannot.
- 47:01SPEAKER_04: I just I don't care who you are.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: Um Yeah, I think, and and I was thinking about this today.
- 47:06SPEAKER_01: Um what's Ohio State's schedule with Tennessee's, and vice versa.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's probably I think Tennessee probably goes 11-1 with Ohio State's schedule, and Ohio State probably goes nine and three, ten and two with Tennessee's schedule.
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: Like the and so, you know, I mean the the margin is razor thin.
- 47:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:28SPEAKER_04: Especially, especially, especially right there in that in that top five.
- 47:31SPEAKER_04: But anyway, I just I watched this game.
- 47:33SPEAKER_04: USC was really impressive, their offense is really good.
- 47:35SPEAKER_04: I thought Notre Dame throws some showed some fight, and then obviously they they made it close at the end.
- 47:39SPEAKER_04: They scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, so the so it looks a little bit closer than it was.
- 47:44SPEAKER_04: Um, Michael Mayer, Notre Dame's tight end, is awesome.
- 47:47SPEAKER_04: Um, Drew Pine, he is not the future.
- 47:49SPEAKER_04: You know, Notre Dame is a really interesting school to keep a keep your eye on because they're gonna be the ones looking around DJU, maybe.
- 47:57SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 47:57SPEAKER_04: Devin O'Leary, I think he graduated NC State, he might be looking for a new job.
- 48:00SPEAKER_04: Sam Hartman was looking for Transfer Florida, Brennan Armstrong, Brennan Armstrong, our boy.
- 48:06SPEAKER_04: I was so sad to see that.
- 48:08SPEAKER_04: UVA quarterback Brennan Armstrong.
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: It makes so much sense, though.
- 48:11SPEAKER_04: I don't blame him.
- 48:11SPEAKER_04: I don't blame him at all for leaving the leaving what's you know, the tragedy aside, we'll be able to go somewhere and ball out.
- 48:19SPEAKER_04: I think so too, especially especially in offense that's not less pro-style, it's more wide open.
- 48:23SPEAKER_04: I think he's gonna do really well.
- 48:24SPEAKER_04: And there's a lot of teams in the country, power five teams, that will be kill for his services, and he will be like a straight shot of adrenaline to some program next year.
- 48:34SPEAKER_04: I totally agree.
- 48:35SPEAKER_04: I don't think it's Notre Dame, but my point is Notre Dame is a team that they're gonna be, they are starting Marcus Freeman's putting together some really good recruiting classes.
- 48:43SPEAKER_04: I think Notre Dame is still trending up.
- 48:45SPEAKER_04: They finished the season eight and four, another good eight and four team.
- 48:48SPEAKER_04: Um, and I will I'm keep an eye on their quarterback position this offseason.
- 48:53SPEAKER_04: I think the Notre Dame quarterback next year is not gonna be Drew Pont.
- 48:56SPEAKER_04: I don't even know if he graduates or not, but whether he is or not, I don't think he's gonna be there.
- 49:00SPEAKER_04: I want to, I'm very interested to see who in the portal he gets because I'm sure Marcus Freeman's looking around saying, like, I gotta find somebody who can throw the ball to more than one person, which is Michael Mayer, over and over and over again.
- 49:14SPEAKER_04: Uh, very cool.
- 49:15SPEAKER_04: Anything else you want to touch on?
- 49:17SPEAKER_04: Uh oh, sorry, we got we got we gotta hit these couple games really quick and we'll go super fast.
- 49:21SPEAKER_04: Uh Florida State uh knocks off Florida.
- 49:23SPEAKER_04: Highly entertaining game.
- 49:24SPEAKER_04: Uh 45-38.
- 49:26SPEAKER_04: Mike Norvell has him nine and three.
- 49:28SPEAKER_04: He's a good coach at turned around.
- 49:29SPEAKER_04: Uh Florida, uh six and six finish, kind of a thud.
- 49:33SPEAKER_04: Go ahead.
- 49:34SPEAKER_01: No, that was an incredible game.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: That could have gone either way.
- 49:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, the the takeaway from that is like, oh, six and six, Florida, you suck.
- 49:43SPEAKER_01: Like nine and three, Florida State.
- 49:45SPEAKER_01: You're great.
- 49:46SPEAKER_01: That game was this that game could have gone either way.
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's literally.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: That was like that was to the finish, bounce of the football.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: Like it was a great game.
- 49:57SPEAKER_04: I'll admit, I'm I've kind of I kind of had that opinion before that game.
- 50:00SPEAKER_04: I just think Florida State is going the right way, and I think Florida is a has a long ways to go in terms of just kind of their rebuild.
- 50:06SPEAKER_04: They don't have anything on defense.
- 50:07SPEAKER_01: And I also just really like Jordan.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: Florida doesn't have Anthony Richardson, is is still such a project.
- 50:13SPEAKER_01: And whether he goes to the NFL or not, I don't know.
- 50:16SPEAKER_01: Um, he's still a project whether he goes, but that's the difference.
- 50:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 50:22SPEAKER_04: I really like Jordan Travis a whole lot.
- 50:24SPEAKER_04: I mean, he's the Florida State kid.
- 50:25SPEAKER_04: He didn't have a he didn't have a great day, 13 for 30, less than 50%, 270 yards and a touchdown.
- 50:30SPEAKER_04: Pretty good.
- 50:31SPEAKER_04: Um, obviously didn't have to beat in-state rivals, so good for them.
- 50:34SPEAKER_04: Uh Florida State, I think Mike Norvell, I think, I think that I think he's finally got that team going the right direction.
- 50:39SPEAKER_04: Um, NC State uh takes down with their backup quarterback, uh Finley, uh, North Carolina.
- 50:45SPEAKER_04: North Carolina's really end of the season.
- 50:47SPEAKER_04: That we were talking about them being I well, I was.
- 50:49SPEAKER_04: I was foolishly, I was foolishly talking about them being a potential playoff contender crashers, not so fast, my friend.
- 50:56SPEAKER_04: Uh, lose in double overtime, 30 to 27, NC State, heck of a win.
- 51:02SPEAKER_04: Uh, this was also a really entertaining game.
- 51:03SPEAKER_04: Did you watch this game?
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:05SPEAKER_01: This was another one that um that I got to watch pretty much from start to finish.
- 51:09SPEAKER_01: That was an awesome, awesome game.
- 51:11SPEAKER_01: A lot of defense, a lot of just good football.
- 51:15SPEAKER_01: Good stuff, good stuff.
- 51:16SPEAKER_04: And last but not least, we're gonna talk about the egg bowl.
- 51:18SPEAKER_04: This game was on Thursday.
- 51:19SPEAKER_04: This game was on Thanksgiving.
- 51:20SPEAKER_04: I watched this game.
- 51:21SPEAKER_03: This was another fun one.
- 51:22SPEAKER_04: This I mean, this is a great game.
- 51:24SPEAKER_04: It was 24-22.
- 51:25SPEAKER_04: Um, it it was in the rain, it was sloppy.
- 51:28SPEAKER_04: These teams hate each other.
- 51:30SPEAKER_04: There was some super questionable officiating.
- 51:32SPEAKER_04: Uh, there was a at one point there was stuff being thrown onto the field.
- 51:37SPEAKER_04: Um, the one thing I didn't understand for the life of me.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: Nobody said a word about it.
- 51:46SPEAKER_04: Not a word, not a peep.
- 51:47SPEAKER_04: Um, the one thing that stuck with me in this game is it's 24-22.
- 51:51SPEAKER_04: Uh Ole Miss score scores a touchdown, they have a chance to tie the game.
- 51:56SPEAKER_04: They're gonna, they're gonna they they need a two-point conversion to tie.
- 51:59SPEAKER_04: They called two timeouts.
- 52:01SPEAKER_04: They had three timeouts, knowing that they didn't get it, they weren't gonna get the ball back.
- 52:05SPEAKER_04: They don't get the two-point conversion, they only have one timeout, they can't stop the clock again.
- 52:09SPEAKER_04: Mississippi State runs the ball twice, and the game is over.
- 52:12SPEAKER_04: Wow, Lane Kiffin, you know what a timeout is.
- 52:16SPEAKER_04: You like, why would he did he not leave himself an out?
- 52:19SPEAKER_04: That was one of the most wild end-of-game coaching decisions that I could see and I've seen in a walk.
- 52:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this one, I don't know.
- 52:26SPEAKER_01: It was just one of those weird games.
- 52:28SPEAKER_01: It was it was really a lot of drama, uh, you know, a lot of questionable calls, like you said, a lot of like big time plays that you know almost went one way and then ended up going the other, like swings of momentum.
- 52:43SPEAKER_01: Um, it was a fantastic game.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: This is what you want on like a Thanksgiving college football game when it's the only one on.
- 52:51SPEAKER_01: This game feels like it was like two weeks ago.
- 52:54SPEAKER_01: Like it's it's insane.
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, it was a fantastic game.
- 52:57SPEAKER_01: Mike Leach still does such weird things.
- 53:01SPEAKER_01: Um I'm I think we both we both picked Mississippi State to win this game.
- 53:07SPEAKER_01: It's crazy that they did the way in the fashion that that that it happened.
- 53:11SPEAKER_01: It is Lane Kiffin should have probably won this game.
- 53:15SPEAKER_04: You know, it's funny.
- 53:16SPEAKER_04: A week ago we were both saying Lane Kiffin's gonna take the Auburn job.
- 53:18SPEAKER_04: We both we were both kind of buying that hype.
- 53:20SPEAKER_04: Turns out it was just a ploy to get himself more money, which he did, and then he turned around and lost his.
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: Which he did, but but it but after he lost this game, the reports came out like literally the next day, like Auburn cooling on Lane Kiffin.
- 53:35SPEAKER_01: Lane Kiffin wants to stay home.
- 53:37SPEAKER_01: His family likes fullness.
- 53:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 53:42SPEAKER_01: Just interesting.
- 53:43SPEAKER_04: Uh, kudos to the uh Mississippi State.
- 53:45SPEAKER_04: I don't think they've won that game in a couple years.
- 53:46SPEAKER_04: So this was the first, I think it was their first victory in two or three years.
- 53:49SPEAKER_04: So obviously, massive, massive uh rivalry win for the Bulldogs.
- 53:54SPEAKER_04: Kudos to them.
- 53:54SPEAKER_04: All right, that's enough of last week's football.
- 53:56SPEAKER_04: Let's talk about what's gonna happen starting tomorrow.
- 53:59SPEAKER_04: We're gonna preview six games, and we're gonna do them fast because we've already been talking too long.
- 54:03SPEAKER_04: Uh, we'll start with the Patch Royal Championship, number 11, Utah, number four, USC.
- 54:08SPEAKER_04: This game is at Allegiance Stadium, Las Vegas, home of Doradas.
- 54:12SPEAKER_04: It's good.
- 54:12SPEAKER_04: Um it's going to be awesome.
- 54:14SPEAKER_04: Uh, you uh USC is a two and a half point favorite, less than a field goal over under 67 and a half points, six seven and a half points.
- 54:22SPEAKER_04: This is the USC's one loss.
- 54:24SPEAKER_04: So this is either gonna be the game that they avenge or Utah is gonna beat them twice.
- 54:29SPEAKER_04: Uh, what do you got?
- 54:31SPEAKER_01: It's so hard to beat a team twice in one season.
- 54:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:36SPEAKER_01: And USC is peaking at the right time.
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, I do think it's gonna be a good game, but I don't think that Utah has it in them to win this one again.
- 54:49SPEAKER_04: It's gonna come down to meet turnovers, frankly.
- 54:52SPEAKER_04: I think this is gonna be it's this is if they don't turn the ball over.
- 54:56SPEAKER_04: I really like Cam rising, and I really like uh Dalton Kincaid, the tight end for Utah.
- 55:01SPEAKER_04: I just think he's the best tight end in the country.
- 55:02SPEAKER_04: He's so, so good.
- 55:04SPEAKER_04: Um, if they can just play what what USD wants to do is what Oklahoma Lincoln Riley does.
- 55:11SPEAKER_04: He wants to spread them out wide, he wants to go fast, he wants to get in a shootout.
- 55:15SPEAKER_04: If Utah can just not do that, if they can if they can run the ball well, they can if they can keep uh Caleb Williams on the sideline, not turn the ball over, which is the one thing that nobody has been able to do against USC is avoid the turnovers, really.
- 55:31SPEAKER_04: If they can do that, I think I can I can't I I think Utah's got a great shot for the upset.
- 55:36SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna pick them.
- 55:38SPEAKER_04: I think I'm gonna pick USC because I think they're surging, but I think it's gonna be close.
- 55:41SPEAKER_04: Uh this is gonna be a field goal game for me.
- 55:43SPEAKER_01: So this game um is very, very much like Michigan-Ohio State last year.
- 55:51SPEAKER_01: And what Utah wants to do and what USC can do on offense.
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 55:58SPEAKER_01: And we've seen it play out.
- 55:59SPEAKER_01: Utah won a very physical matchup and they won the game on a razor-thin margin again on a two-point conversion.
- 56:06SPEAKER_01: Um I just think if if teams are if they're if it's that tight again, I trust USC's offense to make some bigger plays than Utah.
- 56:15SPEAKER_01: And Cam rising has been very bright at certain spots, and um he's he's been mediocre at other times, and and you know, he he he's gonna try to do it all with his legs.
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: And I just put it on Caleb Williams, man.
- 56:35SPEAKER_04: Man, if it weren't for that goofy Florida game the first week, we'd be talking about Utah as a potential two loss Big 12 Pac-12 champion uh playoff crasher.
- 56:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 56:43SPEAKER_04: Um, because you know their losses are both.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: Everyone forgets that Utah lost to Florida.
- 56:47SPEAKER_01: I know because it makes no sense.
- 56:50SPEAKER_01: No one's talked about that in like eight weeks.
- 56:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because it makes no sense because their losses are good.
- 56:54SPEAKER_04: They've at UCLA, 42-32, and at Oregon, 20 to 17.
- 56:59SPEAKER_04: I mean, those are those are two quality losses in the you know, in the minds of good losses.
- 57:04SPEAKER_04: I mean, Utah is a darn good team.
- 57:06SPEAKER_04: Um, this is gonna be great.
- 57:07SPEAKER_04: It's also on Friday night, so we're gonna get it ahead of all the other ones.
- 57:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love that.
- 57:11SPEAKER_04: I love that.
- 57:11SPEAKER_04: I'm excited for that.
- 57:12SPEAKER_04: Love it.
- 57:13SPEAKER_04: Love it, love it, love it, love it, love, love it.
- 57:14SPEAKER_04: All right, good stuff.
- 57:15SPEAKER_04: Let's go to the next one.
- 57:16SPEAKER_04: Um, what is the next one?
- 57:18SPEAKER_04: Uh-oh, I lost my spot.
- 57:21SPEAKER_04: Uh oh.
- 57:22SPEAKER_01: All right, here we go.
- 57:22SPEAKER_01: Elevator music.
- 57:23SPEAKER_04: Elevator music.
- 57:25SPEAKER_04: Uh, let's talk about the let's talk about the um group of five uh game.
- 57:29SPEAKER_04: The American Athletic Championship.
- 57:32SPEAKER_04: This is actually a roommate uh rematch as well.
- 57:34SPEAKER_04: Tulane UCLF UCF, Tulane number 18, UCF 22, 4 o'clock ABC.
- 57:39SPEAKER_04: Tulane is a four-point favorite, uh over under 57.
- 57:43SPEAKER_04: Um, it's gonna come down to for me, this is um Gus Melzanne's uh high flying offense, John John Reese Plumley, and then versus Tulane's sound defense.
- 57:53SPEAKER_04: Um, you have you have a you have a takeaway, you got to read on this one?
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I kind of like UCF to win this game.
- 57:59SPEAKER_01: Um, Tulane's been a great story.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: Uh UCF has a little more talent.
- 58:04SPEAKER_01: I like them on the offensive side of the ball.
- 58:07SPEAKER_01: Um and there's I mean, yeah, I mean he he just knows how to dial up plays, and I think he's got a little bit more in the chamber than than what Tulane's gonna bring to the table.
- 58:18SPEAKER_04: UCF has really solidified themselves down the stretch, and they've they've they've been playing uh solid football.
- 58:23SPEAKER_04: Obviously, the loss to Navy was kind of a was kind of a silly one.
- 58:26SPEAKER_04: Uh super weird one.
- 58:27SPEAKER_04: Super weird.
- 58:28SPEAKER_04: But they before that they beat Cincinnati at Memphis, good team at Tulane.
- 58:33SPEAKER_04: They beat Tulane already once this year.
- 58:35SPEAKER_04: Um, they obviously ended the year on South Florida, who's not very good this year, but a win's a win.
- 58:39SPEAKER_04: Um, I kind of think UCF is in is hitting the is hitting their stride at the right time.
- 58:45SPEAKER_04: I think they're gonna beat Tulane again.
- 58:47SPEAKER_04: I know Tulane's a four-point favorite.
- 58:48SPEAKER_04: I think this is a great spot to make some money.
- 58:50SPEAKER_04: I would take the I like the UCF outright money line.
- 58:53SPEAKER_04: Don't worry about the points.
- 58:54SPEAKER_04: UCF's gonna win.
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm not a big believer in Tulane.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: I know I you know, I like their defense, but like I just yeah, yeah.
- 59:03SPEAKER_01: That's awful.
- 59:04SPEAKER_04: Let's leave it at that.
- 59:05SPEAKER_04: All right, these two games are gonna be laying, so we'll just go ahead and do it.
- 59:07SPEAKER_04: Number two, Michigan, uh, Purdue.
- 59:09SPEAKER_04: Your Purdue boilermakers.
- 59:11SPEAKER_04: You were on Purdue in August and give Mike some credit.
- 59:14SPEAKER_04: He was big on them.
- 59:15SPEAKER_04: Uh, they won the awful Big Ten West, but hey, all you can do is win your games and get there.
- 59:19SPEAKER_04: And they're the conference championship.
- 59:20SPEAKER_04: Good for them.
- 59:21SPEAKER_04: They did it, baby.
- 59:22SPEAKER_04: They did it.
- 59:22SPEAKER_04: Unfortunately, they are 17-point dogs to Michigan.
- 59:26SPEAKER_04: Um, I, you know, what's I mean, there is there any world where Michigan loses this game in your mind?
- 59:33SPEAKER_01: There is no path for Purdue to win this game.
- 59:36SPEAKER_01: No.
- 59:37SPEAKER_01: Purdue has zero run game.
- 59:39SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 59:40SPEAKER_01: And they're not gonna play enough defense.
- 59:42SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 59:43SPEAKER_01: And that's it right there.
- 59:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, if you can't, you, if you can't run the ball and you're gonna have to sit back and throw every time.
- 59:50SPEAKER_01: Um, there's just no there's no recipe for Purdue to win this game, unless Michigan just coughs it up like five times.
- 59:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, something like that.
- 59:57SPEAKER_04: I mean, Aiden O'Connell is, I still think, the second best quarterback in the Big Ten outside of um CJ Stroud.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_04: So they have that going for them, but everything else is they've got they've just got holes.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_04: I expect this game to go a lot like did last year for Iowa.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_04: Michigan came off that massive program altering win against Ohio State.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_04: Um, and this time they did it again in the shoe.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_04: Michigan is surging, they are believing, and JJ McCarthy has got to be confident.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_04: They're probably gonna get um Michigan's gonna get healthy.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_04: I don't know if they're gonna get quorum back, but they're gonna get some guys back.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: They're not quorum's done for the season.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's god, that's even if even a playoff a month from now, if they have their eyes, God, it's yeah, he's gonna have surgery.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_01: Ah, he should probably drop like um Michigan should probably drop like two or three spots based on uh the committee's most recent ranking of Tennessee.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_04: That's probably I agree, it's reasonable.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_04: Um, either way, with it without him.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_04: There, I I just Michigan is too much in too many places playing too playing too well, and they are surging.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm gonna be watching so I I'm I'm Michigan's as be has become one of the fun teams to really watch this November and December now is December 1st.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_04: Um, but I can't see I can't see.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this will be a beatdown.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_01: There won't be much to see, honestly.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_01: Um Purdue puts up a lot of passing yards, like 300 plus per game, but there's they don't run the ball, so they throw the ball like 50 times a game.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_01: So like they're doing this dink and dunk stuff.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_01: It's just not gonna work.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_01: No, moving on.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_01: Michigan's gonna roll.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think you're right.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_04: Uh, number nine, Clemson.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_04: Man, has this game lost some luster?
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_04: Uh number nine, Clemson, 10 and 2.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_04: Uh, hosting or yeah, number 23, North Carolina, nine and three.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_04: Clemson is a seven and a half point favorite.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_04: This game's at Bake of America and Charlotte, North Carolina.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_04: Um, what is Clemson's offense gonna look like now?
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_04: I don't even like who like if I guess they're gonna win the ACC again.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_01: I guess I don't think so.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_01: I think UNC wins this game.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: I think this is just such a bad spot for Clemson.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_01: UNC got Drake May.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_01: Their offense is is good, has been has been really good.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_01: They've been their offense is so much better than than what Clemson brings to the table.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: And you've got a quarterback in DJ Ui Angular that's got one foot out the door.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_01: You've got you've got Dabo Sweeney, who's probably gonna be looking for a new offensive coordinator.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_01: You've got a lot of you've got a lot of questions in Clemson, and you've got a disappointed team who's just lost to South Carolina, not going to the playoff.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_01: They're they've got a consolation prize.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_01: Can they rally to win the conference championship?
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_01: What does that mean to those players?
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, this is a culture game for them, um, which you know UNC is just chomping at the bit to take advantage of.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_04: So you're calling for you're calling for a motivational letdown out of out of Clemson.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm not, I I don't know.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_01: I don't have any inside information.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_01: There's nothing I've read or seen other than other than DJU saying he's gonna leave at this point in time when they're playing for a conference championship, which is not a good look.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_01: Um, but it just, you know, UNC um is just kind of in a prime spot for this to be a little bit of a trap game for Clemson.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_04: No, I I wholeheartedly agree.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_01: And they've got the tools to do it.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_04: They have now UNC is, I mean, I'm gonna play devil's advocate with you.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_04: UNC is coming off of two losses.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_04: They've lost the loss of Georgia Tech and just an inexcusably bad loss.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_01: Terrible, terrible.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_04: And the NC State game, which could have gone either way.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_04: They could have won.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so that was that was a coin flip.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_04: So they've lost two straight, but they still have a chance to win a conference championship.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_04: I can't tell you the last time a Carolina school won the ACC, won the ACC.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_04: It's been so long.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_04: Um, so and you mentioned coming off two losses.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_01: This is where you rally the troops.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is where you like save your season.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_04: No, I think I mean I I think you're absolutely right.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_04: I think Drake May is rocketing up people's boards.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_04: I think he's gonna want to put on a big show.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_04: I think they know who they are, I think they know what they can do well.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_04: I think that so I don't know who's gonna win.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_04: I'm not as confident as you're not as confident as you.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_04: I don't like the spread.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_04: I like the over here.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_04: I'm only seeing 63 and a half points.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_04: I think this there's gonna be a lot of points.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_04: Clemson's defense is a shell of what it was supposed to be, despite the fact that it has five NFL guys on there, it's just not a great unit.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_04: And UNC hasn't played defense since 2021, full stop.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_04: So I think we're gonna see points, points, points.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_04: So I like the over here.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna put the over on this one.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_01: Who do you want to win?
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, who do I want to win?
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_01: Who do you like to win?
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's our that's what we're doing here.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_04: I think Drake May is the best player on the field.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_04: I mean, uh frankly.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_04: So I guess I'm gonna go with the better quarterback in this spot.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_04: Um, I mean, I think Will Shipley's a solid back.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_04: I mean, Clemson has things he can do on offense.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_04: Um, uh, I just I don't I don't like club level or DJU, frankly.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_04: So I'm gonna go with I'm gonna go with the better quarterback.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_04: And so I kind of agree with you.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_04: If I had to pick, I'm not confident, but if I had to pick a winner, I think I would take North Carolina as well.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_04: Uh go heels, I guess.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_04: Uh, very cool.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_04: Um, let's talk about which probably the most interesting conference championship.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_04: The only game of like it's really got some spice to it, I think.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_04: Well, it's not sure, but one of the better ones.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_04: Uh number 10, K-State looking to avenge its loss against undefeated 12-0 TCU.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_04: This game is at ATT Stadium, Jerry World, Arlington, Texas, noon on Saturday.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_04: TCU is only a two and a half point favorite.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_04: This game is gonna be a war.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_04: Ken season Kansas State feels robbed.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_04: They feel like they should have beat them the first time.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_04: They're gonna get it.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_04: I think they might get it today.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_04: I think they might get it.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_04: I think they might get it.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think out of all the games that we're looking at, this would be the one that I would circle as the potential, you know, like the most likely for an upset.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_01: And I still think that TCU.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_04: A meaningful upset.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_04: A meaningful upset, yeah.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_01: But I think TCU should still be in the playoff, even if they lose this game, unless it's just an absolute beatdown.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you're probably right.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_04: I think I think being 12-1.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_04: I think the only we probably we glazed over it already, but let's go back and say it.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_04: I think the only team that could potentially lose their playoff spot is USC.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: Um and that would probably be to Ohio State.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and I which and they would they who who would who would slide into that fourth spot.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_04: Um uh yeah, I mean, uh TCU Kansas State had the had this game one earlier in the season.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_04: Uh TCU came storming back.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_04: Um Max Duggan, kudos to him.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_04: He's also he's an awesome quarterback.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_04: Uh Kwishan.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_04: Uh Johnson is one of the best receivers in college football.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_04: But Will Howard and Deuce Vaughn, they're no slouches either.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_04: This game has a ton of offensive firepower and two great coaches on a neutral site.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_04: Jerry World, I'm expecting to be electric.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_04: This is the most excited I've been for a Big 12 game since like, you know, Red River shootout of like five, six years ago.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_04: I think it's going to be awesome.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, you look at it on both sides of the ball.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, you've got two fantastic quarterbacks, you've got weapons on both sides, you've got defenses that have shown flashes.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_01: They've been able to shut people down.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_01: A TCU hasn't done it consistently, but they've done it when they've needed to.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_01: They shut down uh Bijan Robinson, they shut down um, you know, the Texas offense.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_01: Um, I forgot to mention Bijan Robinson.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_01: Good lord.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_01: He put up six touchdowns and like 400 yards in the last two games.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he didn't.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_01: So to shut him down, I mean, they can do things when they need to.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_01: Um, so this will be a fun one.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think so too.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_04: Um, it's gonna be hell competitive.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_04: I'm actually gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna pull for chaos.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_04: I have been saying this and I've been wrong every time.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_04: Um I'm I'm gonna die.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_04: I'm going down on this boat, Mike.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_04: I'm going down on it.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_04: K-State's gonna win.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_04: I think K-State is the best team in the Big 12.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_04: I think I've been wrong about that boat.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_01: I kind of think so too, honestly.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_04: I feel like I've been wrong about that take for like a month and a half, but I'm gonna die on it.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_04: So I'm gonna be wrong about it one more time.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_04: So obviously, fade that pick TCU, they're gonna win.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_04: But I'm taking K-State.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_04: I think K-State is the best team in the Big 12.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_01: And this is my So I just, yeah, I mean, I just said like TCU deserves so much credit uh because because of what they've done, that doesn't mean that they can't lose the next one.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_01: So yeah, definitely doesn't play K-State.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm on the Wildcats.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_04: Uh all right, cool.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_04: Last but certainly not least, last game that we're gonna talk about uh before the Bulls, the SEC Championship.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_04: My LSU Fighting Tigers, number 14, playing number one, playing uh gorilla with a chainsaw, 800-pound gorilla in University of Georgia, 12 and oh, uh over under 52 and a half.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_04: Georgia is a 17 and a half point favorite.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_04: I'm just glad to be here.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_04: I'm just I don't know what else.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_04: I had to be invited.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_04: I'm just glad to be able to brought punch.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_04: I've you know, I got my six-pack up here, I got some chips.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_04: I'm just glad to be here.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_04: I literally I've been thinking about this all week.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_04: I've been reading the message ports all week.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_04: I don't think most LSU fans really think they have a fight, but we're all everyone's kind of in the same boat.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_04: We're like, nobody thought we're gonna be in December.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_04: We get to play one more week of football when most folks are at home.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_04: And for that, I'm gonna celebrate because I think unfortunately, the on-the-field product is going to get ugly.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_04: Um I, you know, Georgia is so complete in every level at every unit.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_04: Um uh LSU's warts.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_04: LSU has a is a team that can do well and is capable of great things, but they do have warts, and all of those are well documented now.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_04: I have a hard time understanding uh given the what other teams know about Jaden Daniels, given what they know about our players.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_03: And he's banged up, too.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_04: And he's banged up.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_04: They're saying his ankle is better, they're saying he's banged up.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_04: Given what other teams know where we struggle and how to kind of on both sides of the ball, how what do we do about that?
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_04: Like what what are we gonna how do we attack Darth Vader when you know when you when he knows what you know what you're thinking?
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_01: Um this game, I mean, LCU would be fortunate to keep it close in the first half, which I think they you know, it it should be pretty it should be close.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_01: It should be a game, it should be like it should feel okay in the first half.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_01: Um, and that's what Georgia does.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_01: And it'll it'll be not so close in the second half.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_01: And that'll just be that.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_01: That's just there's nothing.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, what is the spread at 20 17 and a half?
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_04: Georgia has played Georgia has played with their food a number of times.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_04: Obviously, the Kent State and Missouri.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_01: That's the thing.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_01: So that's the thing, yeah, is if if they're doing that, and you can get some turnovers, you can get a sack foam ball or something.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, uh muff punt, something.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_01: But that has to be so timely, you know, it has to be yeah, um, and and then again, you know, Georgia can turn it on when they need to.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_01: Um, I just don't, and and it's at home for them, basically, because LSU, you know, how many of those LSU fans believe enough to make the trip that's in Atlanta?
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_04: We'll we'll travel pretty well, but you're talking about Atlanta.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_04: You're talking about Atlanta, Georgia.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_04: It's like what, like an hour and a half from Athens?
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_04: I know it's gonna be black and red in there.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_04: There are gonna be folks barking.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be, it's gonna be crazy.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_04: Um, it's gonna be it's gonna be a tough vibrant.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_04: I the one thing I I mean, I'll say this.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_04: I mean, I think I think Brian Kelly's not intimidated by uh Kirby.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_04: I I think that's true.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_04: I think um LSU is mad.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_01: I'm not intimidated by Kirby.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_01: Have you seen that haircut?
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_04: I think that LSU is gonna lack no motivation like they were last week.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_04: I think right, I I think what they want to do is not go into bowl season on back-to-back losses.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_04: I don't think they want to do it.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_04: I mean, they might might happen anyway, but I think they're gonna I think we're gonna see a really motivated LSU team.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_04: Might throw some wrinkles at them.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_04: I think Matt House, with the coordinator, is going to do a lot of things.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_01: They're gonna have to throw some wrinkles at them.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, really, they're gonna have to throw some trap.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_01: They're gonna have to throw wrinkles and hit on everyone.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think we're gonna, I think we're, I think, I think Matt House is gonna make some adjustments so we can get better at setting the edge.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_04: Because I'm a little worried about what what the what the Georgia running backs are gonna do to us.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_04: We are getting um Jarek Bernard Converse, our best cornerback, back, which will be helpful um for our secondary.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_04: Um I'm gonna take LSU to cover because you guys all know me.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_04: Of course, I'm going to take LSU to cover.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm not gonna say we're gonna win, um, but man, you bet you better believe if there's somehow, some way that we do, uh, I'm gonna be pretty happy.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_04: Um uh no, I'm just I'm this is year one of Brian Kelly, 38 scholarship players a year ago.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_04: We're in the SEC championship, we won the West.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_04: So I'm glad to be here, but I have very low expectations for this game, frankly.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_01: What's your yeah, this is college football.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_01: This is college football.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_01: So anything can happen.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_04: Anything happened.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_04: Do you think we could do you think LSU covers, please?
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_01: I don't really think so, but so no.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_01: I can't say that I do, honestly.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_01: No, there's nothing that there's nothing I've seen from either team that says that they that they cover, but again, anything can happen.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_04: Anything can happen.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_04: Uh, very cool.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_04: I think that's it.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_04: Anything else you want to add before we kind of do uh housekeeping wrap it up?
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_01: No, we should wrap this up.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_01: We should very cool, yeah.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_01: Let's do it.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_01: Uh, folks, thank you.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_01: Let's say let's say goodnight.

- 1:14:10SPEAKER_04: Um so this is the last one.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_04: Um, man, it's been it's been awesome, Mike.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_04: This has been fun.
