- 0:51Speaker 3: Hello, ladies and gentlemen, This is Carl Lee and this
- 0:54Speaker 3: is Let's Talk. And we've got uh. I got my
- 0:57Speaker 3: two co hosts in the building, Hollis Lewis and the
- 1:01Speaker 3: Miss Lisa ode Hell. There were the old props today,
- 1:06Speaker 3: Thank you. So today's going to be a kind of
- 1:10Speaker 3: a really interesting conversation I think in different categories, I guess.
- 1:17Speaker 3: And we've had a we've kind of had a kind
- 1:21Speaker 3: of a tripping week to try to get to get
- 1:26Speaker 3: this show set up. It's got it. Took us a
- 1:28Speaker 3: little while to get it set up, but I guess
- 1:30Speaker 3: we've got it. So Lisa, go ahead and get a start.
- 1:33Speaker 4: I would love to so.
- 1:35Speaker 5: Our honored guest is a former professional football player who
- 1:39Speaker 5: was an offensive lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs in
- 1:42Speaker 5: the NFL from nineteen eighty six through nineteen eighty eight.
- 1:46Speaker 5: He was drafted in nineteen eighty six in the first
- 1:48Speaker 5: round as a seventh overall pick. He played huge He
- 1:54Speaker 5: played collegiate football at West Virginia University. In nineteen eighty three,
- 1:59Speaker 5: he was can team All American by the AP Pole,
- 2:02Speaker 5: and in nineteen eighty five he was a consensus All American,
- 2:06Speaker 5: only the sixth ever honored at that time from West
- 2:09Speaker 5: Virginia University. So I would like to introduce mister Brian Jozwiak. Welcome, Brian.
- 2:17Speaker 6: Thank you for having me, and I appreciate the build up.
- 2:19Speaker 6: It's nice to you know, reminius a little bit of
- 2:23Speaker 6: that thirty five years ago. But hey, Vin, it's a
- 2:29Speaker 6: good thing. I appreciate you guys having me on.
- 2:32Speaker 3: We actually appreciate you coming on. So tell me a
- 2:37Speaker 3: little bit about I'm just going to ask the question
- 2:40Speaker 3: from a from a former player. When you're looking back
- 2:44Speaker 3: now at football, professional football, you watch it, how do
- 2:49Speaker 3: you view it now? Is it a like? Do you
- 2:51Speaker 3: critique it? Does it bother you? Can you tell me
- 2:55Speaker 3: how you feel about it?
- 2:58Speaker 6: Well, first of all, the greatest sport played on the
- 3:01Speaker 6: face of the planet. Brothers that participate in it excite
- 3:07Speaker 6: me every time I watch the game because you know,
- 3:10Speaker 6: Carl being on offensive lineman. Man, I watch the trench,
- 3:13Speaker 6: I watch the physical battles that take place up front.
- 3:17Speaker 6: You know, the instilling your will on somebody is a
- 3:21Speaker 6: challenge because there's somebody across from you that's doing the
- 3:25Speaker 6: same thing and fighting the battle. And it's just that
- 3:28Speaker 6: that part of the game, the game itself, to me,
- 3:32Speaker 6: had changed a whole lot. It's still blocking and tackling
- 3:34Speaker 6: and eleven guys trying to push a ball across a
- 3:38Speaker 6: goal line and eleven try to stop you. And you
- 3:40Speaker 6: know that that part of the game is what I enjoy.
- 3:43Speaker 6: I you know, I critique in my own mind, and
- 3:47Speaker 6: you know, and I formulate my own opinions and all that.
- 3:49Speaker 6: But at the end of the day, man, I just
- 3:51Speaker 6: like to watch the game and how it unfolds it
- 3:55Speaker 6: and how guys face adversity and deal with challenges, and
- 3:59Speaker 6: you know, just like watching that game this weekend up
- 4:01Speaker 6: there in Morgantown and and seeing our guys, you know,
- 4:04Speaker 6: fight back from a ten point deficit and and fight
- 4:08Speaker 6: to a finish man. It ain't over and it's over
- 4:10Speaker 6: ever ever you could score in one play, right, yes,
- 4:16Speaker 6: and and that on. You know, it's that that's the
- 4:19Speaker 6: part of the game that that I I really enjoy.
- 4:23Speaker 6: Uh you know, all the other stuff is ancillary. I
- 4:25Speaker 6: have no control over any of it. So I just
- 4:28Speaker 6: enjoy the game of football. And my son's a head
- 4:32Speaker 6: football coach at Clearwater High School down here in Florida,
- 4:35Speaker 6: so I get a chance to see as much high
- 4:38Speaker 6: school football as I want. I just I just love
- 4:41Speaker 6: the game and it's such a such a such a
- 4:43Speaker 6: great game.
- 4:44Speaker 5: He so, Brian, I'm going to take you back a
- 4:47Speaker 5: little bit and already did in the intro, but let's
- 4:50Speaker 5: go back a little bit more here, so uh so,
- 4:54Speaker 5: and then we'll talk a little more about the backyard
- 4:56Speaker 5: braw But but while you were at WVU, uh you
- 4:59Speaker 5: you played in the coach Nelan and he moved you
- 5:02Speaker 5: from defensive tackle to offensive lineman. What was that change
- 5:06Speaker 5: like for you and how did you adjust to that position.
- 5:10Speaker 6: Well, I'll tell you a little bit of the backstory.
- 5:13Speaker 6: I came in as a freshman out of Baltimore, and
- 5:16Speaker 6: you know, I was at that time six six, about
- 5:18Speaker 6: three hundred and ten pounds, and you know, of course,
- 5:21Speaker 6: that was nineteen eighty one, and I was a defensive lineman.
- 5:25Speaker 6: I was actual noseguard, and got recruited as a defensive.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Lineman, right and I.
- 5:31Speaker 6: Got signed it, I got signed and it was me
- 5:34Speaker 6: Bill Kerlavitch, who's going into the Hall of Fame up
- 5:37Speaker 6: there this year, and a guy named Ernie Anderson, and
- 5:40Speaker 6: we were we were the two freshmen defensive libe and
- 5:44Speaker 6: under collab under coach Dealon. And in the first couple
- 5:51Speaker 6: of weeks, you know, of training camp, I was the
- 5:54Speaker 6: number one nose guard. I was running with the first unit. Heck,
- 5:57Speaker 6: I was on the field with Darryl Tally Folks and
- 6:01Speaker 6: and uh Jeff Seals and Todd Campbell and all those dudes.
- 6:05Speaker 6: And I was a freshman and I was the starting
- 6:08Speaker 6: nose guard and we were getting ready for the opener
- 6:11Speaker 6: and every Thursday we did ten live goal line plays
- 6:15Speaker 6: ones versus ones and they were real. I mean there
- 6:18Speaker 6: was no joke. And of course that was before knee
- 6:20Speaker 6: braces and played scrimmage. I blew my left knee out,
- 6:25Speaker 6: had to have surgery, had surgery on Monday, and uh
- 6:29Speaker 6: I actually came back in about four weeks. Doug Bowers
- 6:32Speaker 6: sticks my knee. That was when they were first starting
- 6:35Speaker 6: to do ar for scopic surgery. When I got back,
- 6:38Speaker 6: I got back four weeks. I was back in the
- 6:41Speaker 6: lineup US again. Uh I got back into the lineup.
- 6:45Speaker 6: I was the number two and then I was getting
- 6:47Speaker 6: rotations with the number one. We were getting ready. I
- 6:50Speaker 6: think it was like the age or ninth game of
- 6:52Speaker 6: the year, and I was going to get back in
- 6:54Speaker 6: there and give it her shot. And I swear the
- 6:56Speaker 6: same thing happened to my right knee. I was in
- 6:59Speaker 6: on my and right after I got out of surgery,
- 7:02Speaker 6: Coach Delon was in my room with with Kerlavitch and
- 7:08Speaker 6: the coach Carl Battershell. Battershell was the tackle coach and
- 7:12Speaker 6: Coach Delon informed my mom and dad and me. Hell
- 7:16Speaker 6: I was laying in bed with my knee packed in Ice,
- 7:19Speaker 6: and he's like, hey, listen, we're gonna move your kid
- 7:22Speaker 6: to offensive tackle because we feel that he's going to
- 7:25Speaker 6: be susceptible to knee injuries. And of course, back then
- 7:28Speaker 6: there was no knee braces that you could cut anybody
- 7:30Speaker 6: you wanted any time. And so they moved me to
- 7:33Speaker 6: offensive tackle. And to this day, I give coach deal
- 7:36Speaker 6: and a kiss on the forehead every time I see him,
- 7:39Speaker 6: because it was the best move they could have ever
- 7:41Speaker 6: made for me.
- 7:42Speaker 3: I played with Dennis Folks, actually he came to Minnesota,
- 7:46Speaker 3: and I know Dale Telly really well.
- 7:48Speaker 6: So hey, mister inside, mister Alison.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:55Speaker 6: Great players, great players.
- 7:57Speaker 3: How you doing that?
- 7:58Speaker 6: That's how I hit it up on offense.
- 8:00Speaker 3: That's a great story, and that's a and it's a
- 8:02Speaker 3: testament to you know, your athleticism and versatility. So watching
- 8:08Speaker 3: the game, you know, can you just sort of recount
- 8:11Speaker 3: your experience playing in the backyard brawl during your time
- 8:14Speaker 3: at w v U.
- 8:17Speaker 6: Oh my, what a great history. Of course. You know,
- 8:20Speaker 6: you know when I got hey Carl, when I was
- 8:23Speaker 6: on my recruiting trips, I was I was I was
- 8:27Speaker 6: told to hate Pitt and I didn't know why hell,
- 8:32Speaker 6: I was from Baltimore. I require Pittzburg was I know
- 8:36Speaker 6: it was a Pennsylvania somewhere, and uh, anyway, it was
- 8:40Speaker 6: just you know, back then it was the third longest
- 8:43Speaker 6: running rivalry. Uh. Now it's dropped because it broke off
- 8:48Speaker 6: there for a number of years and such. But you know,
- 8:50Speaker 6: when I showed up, you know, the pitt rivalry was
- 8:54Speaker 6: was already like I said, it was the third longest
- 8:57Speaker 6: running rivalry in the nation. And the brawl and so
- 9:00Speaker 6: only seventy miles apart, you know, Mills Mills versus minds. Uh,
- 9:05Speaker 6: it was deep seated in the blue collar mentality that
- 9:10Speaker 6: you know western Pa and and in West Virginia are
- 9:14Speaker 6: and and it's just there was just so much to it.
- 9:17Speaker 6: And of course, uh, you know being in those battles, uh,
- 9:21Speaker 6: you know the games I got, I got, I got,
- 9:23Speaker 6: I was two, I was two to one and one
- 9:27Speaker 6: two one and one lost in in uh in katy
- 9:31Speaker 6: two one, eighty three, eighty four, And of course you know,
- 9:35Speaker 6: the harshest memory I have of that rivalry was eighty five,
- 9:39Speaker 6: the ten ten tie. How do you how do you play?
- 9:43Speaker 6: How do you know? You beat the living dog out
- 9:45Speaker 6: of each other for priars. As you get back, you're
- 9:48Speaker 6: sitting in your locker room going what the hell? I
- 9:51Speaker 6: just know it's like this was ridiculous, Like this is
- 9:55Speaker 6: your sister. I mean there was there was nothing, you know. Yeah,
- 9:59Speaker 6: and hey, uh that that was so fun to be
- 10:03Speaker 6: part of that. And I tell you ironically, I got drafted.
- 10:06Speaker 6: When I got drafted, seat I get out there, and
- 10:09Speaker 6: who's my locker? Right? A button next to broke Billy Moss.
- 10:14Speaker 6: Bill Muss was a pit d lineman. We played against
- 10:17Speaker 6: each other in eighty three and uh uh, he went
- 10:21Speaker 6: out and got drafted out there and we had to
- 10:23Speaker 6: pang against each other. It took a while for he
- 10:26Speaker 6: and I to even you know, like talk to each other.
- 10:30Speaker 6: It was and you know, we were touching lockers.
- 10:34Speaker 3: You know, Oh my goodness.
- 10:36Speaker 6: Yeah, great, Robberry, just such a just such a it's
- 10:39Speaker 6: just again it's a it's a different kind of game, yeah,
- 10:43Speaker 6: because of all the emotion and you know, yeah, the
- 10:46Speaker 6: challenge is the next game after a win like that?
- 10:49Speaker 4: Yeah for sure.
- 10:51Speaker 5: Hey, So, so, Brian, what I would like to do
- 10:53Speaker 5: as you're talking about the blue collar mentality, I'm just
- 10:56Speaker 5: going to have our producer run a clip of rich
- 10:59Speaker 5: Rod interview after the game, and then maybe get your
- 11:02Speaker 5: thoughts on all the emotion rich was feeling.
- 11:05Speaker 4: You're gonna play the clip.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Please, what a seeing coach? Congratulations Just about as happy
- 11:11Speaker 3: as I've ever seen you. Coach, How do you describe
- 11:13Speaker 3: your emotions right now?
- 11:15Speaker 7: I'm so happy for our kids, for the state of
- 11:17Speaker 7: West Virginia.
- 11:20Speaker 3: What is this speaking coach?
- 11:21Speaker 7: Heuto West Virginia. We got a lot of credit, We
- 11:24Speaker 7: got a lot of hardworking people. Don't ever quit it.
- 11:27Speaker 7: Don't ever quit it, West Virginia Mountaineers, don't ever quit it.
- 11:31Speaker 3: What do you think made the difference?
- 11:32Speaker 7: Coach just kept playing along with the game's gonna go
- 11:36Speaker 7: the better for West Virginia.
- 11:39Speaker 3: God bless the Mountaineers.
- 11:41Speaker 7: And God blessed West Virginia.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Now, I have to say, as a Marshall guy, yet,
- 11:49Speaker 3: I have to say, I don't know if I've ever
- 11:53Speaker 3: seen a coach be that just emotional, just that emotional
- 12:00Speaker 3: to the point like gives you chills. Yeah, because he
- 12:02Speaker 3: because because he's not and it's like he's counting everybody
- 12:06Speaker 3: in West Virginia, like he's throwing everybody in West Virginia
- 12:10Speaker 3: into that victory to celebrate it, regardless of where you
- 12:14Speaker 3: played or who you root for. And I and to me,
- 12:17Speaker 3: I thought that that was that was good. But can
- 12:20Speaker 3: you can you explain what you hear when you when
- 12:24Speaker 3: you hear him going crazy like that?
- 12:27Speaker 6: Well, I can tell you that while that was going on,
- 12:30Speaker 6: I was over in the end zone jumping around like
- 12:32Speaker 6: a baby because I felt that same, that same passion,
- 12:39Speaker 6: that same that same emotion, because it is such a
- 12:44Speaker 6: I'm getting choked now, but so rich. I mean, I
- 12:49Speaker 6: mean think about you know this, this is the not
- 12:53Speaker 6: many of us get second chances and the emption. And
- 12:59Speaker 6: you know, the last game against Pitt that he ever coached,
- 13:02Speaker 6: we lost. And for him to get that game to
- 13:06Speaker 6: share it with with all the people in West Virginia.
- 13:09Speaker 6: You gotta remember, some mark brand is quite unique. And
- 13:12Speaker 6: I'll tell you what our brand is. A is a
- 13:16Speaker 6: w AV. It doesn't there's not a U on it.
- 13:19Speaker 6: There's it's just w V West virgin That w V
- 13:23Speaker 6: represents all of us that are West Virginia, you know,
- 13:27Speaker 6: I mean everywhere it matters. A stadium was it was
- 13:32Speaker 6: the most I haven't seen an atmosphere like that in
- 13:35Speaker 6: a stadium for twenty years, and a lot of that
- 13:38Speaker 6: is because of Rich's energy and what he said in
- 13:42Speaker 6: the beginning of the year. Man, hey, we need you,
- 13:45Speaker 6: don't you. We're not gonna quit. What he said in
- 13:48Speaker 6: the postgame, We're never We're never gonna quit. We're gonna fight.
- 13:51Speaker 6: And and that that is what we saw a great
- 13:56Speaker 6: example of and our bands. You know, a year or
- 14:00Speaker 6: two ago, in the third quarter, when we got down
- 14:02Speaker 6: bout ten, half our fans would have been out in
- 14:05Speaker 6: the parking lot. And and this game, we got down
- 14:09Speaker 6: bout ten, and the energy just increased and intensified to
- 14:13Speaker 6: the point where in the last couple of minutes of
- 14:16Speaker 6: that game it rattled so bad that they had to
- 14:19Speaker 6: go and and try tactics to try to figure it out.
- 14:24Speaker 6: And at the end they rattled enough that that twelveth man,
- 14:28Speaker 6: that that West Virginia fan base that was in there
- 14:31Speaker 6: provided such an energy that it just it's just it
- 14:37Speaker 6: was a work of art. It was it was really
- 14:38Speaker 6: something special. And again it's for like Rich said, it's
- 14:42Speaker 6: for everybody to share in, you know, but that past,
- 14:46Speaker 6: you know, it's in the past. So for us, you know,
- 14:51Speaker 6: it's exciting to grasp me. You know, I'm driving down
- 14:53Speaker 6: to Florida with a buddy of mine. Of course, you
- 14:56Speaker 6: know that's been the topic of conversation for most of
- 14:58Speaker 6: the trip, and it's excited speaking a trip go fast.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Well, I think you have something real. I just because
- 15:07Speaker 3: I know one of the things we have said after
- 15:08Speaker 3: the bad loss to to Ohio, and one of the
- 15:12Speaker 3: things I had said last week on the show was that,
- 15:14Speaker 3: you know, West Gia is very much in this thing
- 15:16Speaker 3: as far as international conversation. Uh and obviously Beaten Pitt
- 15:21Speaker 3: helps that. So what what do you think just Wes
- 15:24Speaker 3: Virginia going into Big twelve play and and and what
- 15:27Speaker 3: are you foreseeing?
- 15:28Speaker 4: What?
- 15:28Speaker 3: What? What's a good season as far as from alumni perspective?
- 15:33Speaker 6: You know, I mean one of a time for one thing,
- 15:36Speaker 6: and from an alumni perspective, And hope we all understand,
- 15:40Speaker 6: you know, Rich had to Rich had to pull the
- 15:44Speaker 6: whole new staff. Rich had to bring in you know,
- 15:49Speaker 6: like seventy one plus however many freshman I think it
- 15:53Speaker 6: was like.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Eighty eighty one new players.
- 15:56Speaker 6: Yeah, eighty one new players. I mean that's like that's
- 15:58Speaker 6: like me buying a business, have one hundred and fifty
- 16:00Speaker 6: employees and on the first day, one hundred and thirty
- 16:03Speaker 6: five of them to walk out the door, and I
- 16:05Speaker 6: got to go replace them and try to get production
- 16:08Speaker 6: almost immediately because the Mountain. Here's what we expect, we expect.
- 16:13Speaker 6: And you know that that gives give down on teams
- 16:16Speaker 6: some credit. They're good football team.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, they're great.
- 16:20Speaker 5: You know.
- 16:20Speaker 6: So at the end of the day, we are still
- 16:25Speaker 6: experiencing growing pains and it's going to take a continual effort,
- 16:30Speaker 6: but we will get better. And I'm telling you, I
- 16:33Speaker 6: was a practice on Wednesday before the game, and I
- 16:36Speaker 6: was so excited to see the energy and the tempo
- 16:41Speaker 6: and and I'll tell you I had this one was
- 16:44Speaker 6: really cool. And I'm before practice. Rich brought the offensive
- 16:49Speaker 6: line to the corner of the end zone and and
- 16:52Speaker 6: kind of gave me the stage said hey man, you
- 16:55Speaker 6: got some words. I was like, are you kidding me,
- 16:59Speaker 6: and kind of stepped aside and let me let me
- 17:02Speaker 6: throw some words at him about you know what it
- 17:05Speaker 6: means to us and uh, you know, as an offensive lineman.
- 17:10Speaker 6: And and to see that and to watch those guys
- 17:14Speaker 6: go out there and and and do what they did
- 17:17Speaker 6: and fight to the finish and over time and and
- 17:19Speaker 6: grab that victory like that. Man, that is just wonderful.
- 17:22Speaker 6: And it does. It's sets a stage now because we start,
- 17:26Speaker 6: you know, with Kansas next week, we start the Big
- 17:28Speaker 6: twelve play. All the goals are still intact. Yeah, you know,
- 17:31Speaker 6: we're undefeated in the Big twelve, as everybody is or
- 17:35Speaker 6: will whoever whatever, But right now we're we're undefeated in
- 17:38Speaker 6: the Big twelve. And and we're starting off and here
- 17:42Speaker 6: we go, and uh, you know, if if we could
- 17:45Speaker 6: come out of here with you know, maybe one more
- 17:48Speaker 6: really big win and knock off the ones that we're
- 17:52Speaker 6: supposed to uh, and and you know, who knows, I mean,
- 17:56Speaker 6: who knows? I mean, look at what Indiana did last year.
- 18:02Speaker 6: You get enough, you get enough going, and you get
- 18:05Speaker 6: that mojo going and and you know, as we all know,
- 18:07Speaker 6: whinn is a great deodor and it and it really
- 18:10Speaker 6: fixes a lot of good things. So the faster these
- 18:12Speaker 6: guys can can continue to learn and grow, and the
- 18:16Speaker 6: more game experience they get, I mean, heck, as an
- 18:18Speaker 6: offensive lineman, you know, you've got five guys and it's
- 18:21Speaker 6: a first game we've ever played in and Ohio is
- 18:23Speaker 6: the second game, and Ohio is running all over the place,
- 18:26Speaker 6: and you know, for them to go from that week
- 18:29Speaker 6: to this week and the improvement made right there, they
- 18:32Speaker 6: continue on that kind of crescendo through the year and
- 18:36Speaker 6: you know, stay healthy. You know, our devil becomes extremely
- 18:40Speaker 6: valuable in this case. But he went out and recruited
- 18:43Speaker 6: a bunch of new guys that you know he's going
- 18:46Speaker 6: to have the depth. So I'm I'm excited about the year.
- 18:50Speaker 6: I really am.
- 18:51Speaker 4: So that's that's me too, Brian. I agree with you
- 18:55Speaker 4: one d and ten percent.
- 18:57Speaker 5: I have a question though, and it's kind of the
- 18:58Speaker 5: elephant in the room that I'll lot of fans are discussing,
- 19:01Speaker 5: probably on social media. So we know that Nico Marcio
- 19:06Speaker 5: was was the starting quarterback for the game, and and
- 19:09Speaker 5: and you know, play played pretty decent the first half.
- 19:12Speaker 5: WVU was up seven to three at halftime, and then
- 19:16Speaker 5: when we come out to the third third quarter, we
- 19:18Speaker 5: see that true freshman Scottie Fox takes the helm at
- 19:22Speaker 5: at at offense. Uh, I know you're not You're not
- 19:25Speaker 5: rich Rod. You can't answer for him. What are your
- 19:27Speaker 5: thoughts about the change? What why do you think that
- 19:29Speaker 5: change was necessary? At the beginning of the third quarter,
- 19:32Speaker 5: in the pit game.
- 19:34Speaker 6: I think they probably made a decision first to maybe
- 19:38Speaker 6: try to get a little spark going. Uh. And I
- 19:42Speaker 6: think that from a from a psychology standpoint, you know,
- 19:46Speaker 6: this guy is going to be the future quarterback of
- 19:48Speaker 6: your football program. Let's let's get him in the one
- 19:52Speaker 6: of the biggest games ever and and get him into
- 19:55Speaker 6: that that pressure cooker and get him into that situation
- 19:58Speaker 6: and and welcome him to college footballs and and and
- 20:03Speaker 6: and that creates some depth. And then you put the
- 20:05Speaker 6: other guy in you try a little bit of that.
- 20:08Speaker 6: That gets him some more game experience as the year goes,
- 20:11Speaker 6: and then you put your stud back in there and
- 20:13Speaker 6: you get what you expect out of him, a great
- 20:16Speaker 6: performance and finish and uh, you know, you gotta build
- 20:20Speaker 6: depth because you just never know, and you gotta be
- 20:23Speaker 6: interchangeable at the whim it's got to be able to happen.
- 20:26Speaker 6: That's his kind of mentality. And he's got, you know,
- 20:29Speaker 6: some some quarterbacks to work with, and he's trying to
- 20:32Speaker 6: get him, you.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Know, some game time, you know, and that's game time
- 20:36Speaker 3: in a big game.
- 20:38Speaker 6: On top of that, Yes, sir, yes sir, I'm.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Gonna I'm gonna say something that's gonna sound crazy, but
- 20:45Speaker 3: I'm going to ask you a question, and I'm curious
- 20:49Speaker 3: because what this reminds me of. It reminds me of
- 20:53Speaker 3: Bob Pruitt going back to Marshall and the change that
- 20:59Speaker 3: took place at Marshall. Can you do you think this
- 21:04Speaker 3: is something that is going to go that direction for
- 21:07Speaker 3: WU now to to really be you know, you got
- 21:11Speaker 3: the right coach with the right team at the right time.
- 21:16Speaker 3: What what what is this? Is this going to be
- 21:18Speaker 3: a remake? Do you think he's gonna just rebuild this
- 21:20Speaker 3: whole thing to a to a level that people didn't
- 21:24Speaker 3: think he could go.
- 21:27Speaker 6: You know, Uh, that is a great question, you know.
- 21:30Speaker 6: I mean, I think our limitations are always going to
- 21:33Speaker 6: be the depth of resources that are available to us.
- 21:37Speaker 6: As far as facilities are concerned. We got we got
- 21:40Speaker 6: one of the best facilities in the nation, you know,
- 21:42Speaker 6: but we're in Morgantown. Uh And you know, uh, Ken Ken.
- 21:48Speaker 6: The bottom line is in the in the landscape we're in.
- 21:52Speaker 6: You guys know the n I L and the way
- 21:54Speaker 6: the portals designed We've got We've got to have a staff,
- 21:58Speaker 6: which I think we do that will hold players here.
- 22:02Speaker 6: But at the end of the day, you know, And
- 22:05Speaker 6: I hate it, but it is about money. When somebody
- 22:08Speaker 6: says I'm getting one hundred thousand dollars, and somebody says,
- 22:11Speaker 6: come here and I'll give you half a million, and
- 22:14Speaker 6: you know, where's my loyalty? Yeah, you know, and I hope,
- 22:18Speaker 6: I hope the loyalties not to the dollar. But you know,
- 22:23Speaker 6: how can how I mean, I may never play in
- 22:25Speaker 6: the NFL and I can go get you know, three
- 22:27Speaker 6: or four hundred thousand.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Ye that I mean.
- 22:29Speaker 6: It really muddies the water a lot. I mean, I'm
- 22:32Speaker 6: sure you know I would have liked to have got
- 22:35Speaker 6: you know, CEMENTI I own money, mate, I don't know.
- 22:38Speaker 6: But uh, I'm sure glad that it didn't happen during
- 22:41Speaker 6: my time because I enjoyed the building of the locker
- 22:45Speaker 6: room and coming in as a freshman and leaving us
- 22:47Speaker 6: a fifth year senior and seeing it happen over and
- 22:50Speaker 6: over again, and having a coach in place for twenty years.
- 22:53Speaker 6: I got blessed, man. I was I was part of
- 22:55Speaker 6: something really special. It's just you know, different.
- 23:00Speaker 5: It is a different world, whole different world, Brian. So,
- 23:03Speaker 5: so I have a question for you now. It's it's
- 23:06Speaker 5: we're going to wrap this up with you because we
- 23:08Speaker 5: know you're traveling and you're probably tired. But so you're
- 23:11Speaker 5: Kansas City Chiefs, your former team. They're out of the
- 23:14Speaker 5: gate at oh and two.
- 23:16Speaker 4: So, so what are.
- 23:17Speaker 5: Your thoughts about that, about that story with you and
- 23:20Speaker 5: why do you love Taylor Sweft?
- 23:23Speaker 6: Well, I'll answer that by saying this, I will always
- 23:28Speaker 6: be a debt to the Hunt family for drafting me
- 23:31Speaker 6: number seven in the nineteen eighty six draft and then
- 23:35Speaker 6: you know, uh, you know, uh, three and a half
- 23:38Speaker 6: years later they cut me. So you know what, at
- 23:42Speaker 6: the end of the day, you know what I mean? Yeah,
- 23:45Speaker 6: I have no loyalties. I don't even get a Christmas
- 23:49Speaker 6: card from him. Now, Okay, so this point it is
- 23:53Speaker 6: and the other thing I think Travis dy So just
- 23:56Speaker 6: quit thinking about her. I want to drop a past
- 24:00Speaker 6: a right to freeing out that I.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Knew you would take that made.
- 24:06Speaker 5: Line and Brian, you took it. Tell us about your
- 24:12Speaker 5: podcast a little bit before we let you go.

- 24:27Speaker 6: do is we take a couple of former WV legends

- 24:36Speaker 6: Uh My Collins has been with us, Owen Schmid has
- 24:39Speaker 6: been with us. Uh you know, and uh, I said
- 24:42Speaker 6: Major Harris, we we we did together, and we'll go
- 24:46Speaker 6: to these watch parties and we will do a live
- 24:51Speaker 6: on the spot, you know, kind of pregame talking about
- 24:54Speaker 6: the upcoming game and telling some stories and and and
- 24:58Speaker 6: just chop it up, but it have some fun with it.
- 25:03Speaker 6: And uh, get around a bunch of Mountaineer fans and
- 25:06Speaker 6: you know, we're gonna be in Myrtle Beach, are coming up.
- 25:09Speaker 6: This will be our fourth year in Myrtle Beach, and uh,
- 25:12Speaker 6: it's just wowd it would be three foreign people packed
- 25:15Speaker 6: his place, and it's just, you know, we're just hanging
- 25:17Speaker 6: out with the Mountaineer fans.
- 25:19Speaker 5: You're living You're living your best life, aren't you your

- 26:40Speaker 6: and think he's such a great fit down there, and
- 26:42Speaker 6: and and for him, you know, his first head coaching.
- 26:45Speaker 6: Run man and he gets that first victory.
- 26:47Speaker 5: That's best, big yes, sir, thank you, thank you for

- 28:37Speaker 10: The Ravens were planning to select Schador Sanders. When he
- 28:41Speaker 10: found out, he got word back to the Ravens that
- 28:43Speaker 10: he preferred not to go to a place where he
- 28:45Speaker 10: would be competing in backing up Lamar Jackson, you want
- 28:48Speaker 10: to be in a place that he could play a
- 28:50Speaker 10: right Like, if this is true, I think this is crazy.
- 28:51Speaker 3: At this point, you're in the fifth round.
- 28:53Speaker 11: I understand you had higher hopes. You've dropped to the
- 28:55Speaker 11: fifth round and you're thinking about being a starting quarterback
- 28:58Speaker 11: the next year. I think this is incredibly short sighted. Like,
- 29:01Speaker 11: if you're in this situation, you want to go to
- 29:03Speaker 11: an organization that is going to develop you, Instead, you
- 29:07Speaker 11: choose the Cleveland Browns because you think you have a
- 29:09Speaker 11: chance to start the next year.
- 29:10Speaker 12: Teddy, you're talking about Lamar Jackson is going to be
- 29:12Speaker 12: probably retire with this organization. So if the backup does
- 29:16Speaker 12: get in, he's in for garbage time. So I can
- 29:18Speaker 12: see Washador Sanders made that decision. I want to go
- 29:21Speaker 12: compete for a job and get out there and play
- 29:22Speaker 12: as a.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Rookieh I know, when I don't know, there's if there's
- 29:26Speaker 3: any athlete that does not want to go to whatever
- 29:29Speaker 3: next level who wants to play. But when you here's
- 29:35Speaker 3: my issue when you name if I say I don't
- 29:38Speaker 3: want to go to GW because Hollins Lewis is the
- 29:42Speaker 3: quarterback and I'm a quarterback, what did I say? You know,
- 29:49Speaker 3: I'm supposed I got That's where I'm supposed to go,
- 29:53Speaker 3: But I'm going to go somewhere else because I don't
- 29:55Speaker 3: want to face the reality of competing against a true
- 30:03Speaker 3: high school quarterback. Well, in this case, you're not competing.
- 30:08Speaker 3: So I think that's the thing. If he went to Balltimore,
- 30:11Speaker 3: there is no competition, Lamar Jackson is the yes, I
- 30:15Speaker 3: think the thing and again, and I understand sort of
- 30:20Speaker 3: what he was thinking is that again, I'll have a
- 30:24Speaker 3: chance to play if I go to Cleveland. I think
- 30:26Speaker 3: the thing he underestimated is that Cleveland is a terribly
- 30:29Speaker 3: rand organization. And I think, no matter if you start,
- 30:34Speaker 3: no matter if you're on the bench, no matter what happens.
- 30:36Speaker 3: And he's already being he's already seen that. I mean,
- 30:39Speaker 3: when you have the owner making disparaging comments about you
- 30:43Speaker 3: and you haven't even played it down for the organization,
- 30:46Speaker 3: you know, I think you just have to measure far
- 30:49Speaker 3: as in a professional standpoint, you have to look long term.
- 30:52Speaker 3: You can't look short term and long term. Even if
- 30:55Speaker 3: you are a backup for the Ravens, you get that
- 30:57Speaker 3: garbage time, you perform in that garbage time, you may
- 31:00Speaker 3: set yourself up for a starting job, and you know,
- 31:03Speaker 3: it's always possible that Lamar Jackson gets hurts and you're
- 31:05Speaker 3: in there, see but see to me and and sorry,
- 31:10Speaker 3: at least I know you had something to But here's what,
- 31:14Speaker 3: here's what I can remember getting to the vikings and
- 31:18Speaker 3: I knew, you know, I looked at the two corners
- 31:21Speaker 3: and I'm thinking to myself, Okay, I can't get Willie
- 31:24Speaker 3: till he's just like he's he's solid. The other guy
- 31:29Speaker 3: was okay, you know, and I'm thinking, okay, maybe I
- 31:31Speaker 3: could get him. But it took. It took basically most
- 31:35Speaker 3: of the you know, some games before I could even
- 31:38Speaker 3: get into the starting lineup to think that you have
- 31:44Speaker 3: to be a starter, that you're gonna go somewhere to
- 31:48Speaker 3: just to be a starter, go beat somebody out, Go
- 31:52Speaker 3: go take a go take a job. Don't what he's
- 31:54Speaker 3: trying to do now. And he's not getting an opportunity.
- 31:57Speaker 3: And the thing is unlike corner there, because corner you
- 32:01Speaker 3: have maybe three or four opportunities to get on the field.
- 32:04Speaker 3: You can get in a Nickel package. You can be
- 32:06Speaker 3: the starter there. You can be the start a right
- 32:07Speaker 3: or left corner. And there are other dime in different
- 32:09Speaker 3: prevent practices that you could possibly find yourself. We may
- 32:12Speaker 3: not be official quote unquote starter, but you may be
- 32:15Speaker 3: the first guy off the bench. Quarterback is one shot.
- 32:17Speaker 3: It's only you got one chance. And I think again,
- 32:21Speaker 3: maybe because it's arrogance, maybe because of this, maybe because
- 32:24Speaker 3: of that. But now he's finding himself in a situation
- 32:27Speaker 3: where again you go to a terrible franchise, terrible things happen,
- 32:31Speaker 3: and you got a long list of quarterbacks who have
- 32:35Speaker 3: went to Cleveland to die. I mean, they let this
- 32:38Speaker 3: organization let Baker Mayfield go. And Baker Mayfield is a
- 32:42Speaker 3: legit starter in this league. He's leading Tampa. I think
- 32:46Speaker 3: he went to the playoffs. So I think it was
- 32:50Speaker 3: just a miscalculation because and again, no matter how good
- 32:53Speaker 3: you are, you go to a crappy franchise, it's only
- 32:56Speaker 3: gonna hurt you.
- 32:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean those are all good points.
- 32:59Speaker 3: What you guys are.
- 33:00Speaker 5: I think I'm gonna go to the emotional route here.
- 33:02Speaker 5: I think I think what bothers me the most about
- 33:04Speaker 5: all of this. It's not that you know, he passed
- 33:07Speaker 5: up an opportunity to go play under a superb quarterback
- 33:11Speaker 5: and could have learned much from Lamar Jackson.
- 33:13Speaker 4: You know he could have done that.
- 33:14Speaker 5: I think the biggest thing was is the victim role
- 33:17Speaker 5: he played during the draft, knowing all along, you know,
- 33:20Speaker 5: he had this this free fall, you know, during the draft,
- 33:23Speaker 5: he made people feel bad for him, feel sorry for him,
- 33:26Speaker 5: when he in reality, the Ravens wanted to draft him
- 33:29Speaker 5: at what one hundred and forty one draft pick or something.
- 33:32Speaker 3: Like that, at.
- 33:35Speaker 5: The one and forty first pick, so's I don't know
- 33:38Speaker 5: what round that would be. But you know, to me,
- 33:42Speaker 5: he did this Woe is Me song and dance when
- 33:45Speaker 5: in reality.
- 33:46Speaker 3: You knew what was happening. He knew what was happening.
- 33:49Speaker 5: He knew what was happening, yet he played on the
- 33:50Speaker 5: heartstrings of all the fans you know, of the NFL
- 33:53Speaker 5: and during the draft of Oh nobody wants me, look
- 33:55Speaker 5: at me, poor me? And you know Dad knew what
- 33:59Speaker 5: was going on as well. Yes, you know, Dion knows
- 34:01Speaker 5: everything his sons are doing. So to me, it's kind
- 34:05Speaker 5: of like a false I don't know, a falsehood that
- 34:08Speaker 5: he kind of put out there, or is.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Do you think he's trying to find what I'll call
- 34:13Speaker 3: favor for somebody to you know, because if you get that,
- 34:19Speaker 3: if you get the negative side of the fan base, right,
- 34:24Speaker 3: is he trying to find a way to create a
- 34:27Speaker 3: way for people to feel bad for him?
- 34:30Speaker 4: Well that's how I felt during the draft.
- 34:32Speaker 5: Now that this has come to light, Yeah, I think
- 34:35Speaker 5: during the draft he wanted people to feel sorry for him,
- 34:38Speaker 5: And in reality it wasn't the case at all. He
- 34:40Speaker 5: didn't do this free fall. He had a team, a legitimate,
- 34:43Speaker 5: legitimate team that was interested and wanted him and wanted
- 34:46Speaker 5: to bring him under Lamar Jackson's wing. I mean, we've
- 34:49Speaker 5: seen that happen time and time, especially you know the
- 34:51Speaker 5: good quarterbacks in the league.
- 34:52Speaker 4: Look what happened with Aaron Rodgers or Aaron Rodgers and.
- 34:55Speaker 5: Jordan love Well saying that could have ever happened to
- 34:57Speaker 5: Jordan love I was.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Going to say, like, why, why? How would you not
- 35:01Speaker 3: going from college to pro? Why could why would you
- 35:05Speaker 3: not be okay of playing behind I don't care what
- 35:08Speaker 3: the position is, playing behind somebody who's a starter your
- 35:12Speaker 3: first couple of years, I don't care how many years
- 35:14Speaker 3: it takes for you to become that guy. Why would yeah,
- 35:17Speaker 3: why wouldn't you be okay with that? And again, well,
- 35:21Speaker 3: and just to answer the question, it's still the fifth round.
- 35:24Speaker 3: It just would have been the third pick in the
- 35:27Speaker 3: fifth round, so he would have went he would have
- 35:29Speaker 3: went three or four positions up. But I think it's
- 35:32Speaker 3: like Rex Ryan had mentioned in that clip. We didn't
- 35:36Speaker 3: hear his comments, but he said should door probably don't
- 35:38Speaker 3: think he need that much development. Probably thought I'll come
- 35:41Speaker 3: in to Cleveland and I'll start regardless, you know what
- 35:44Speaker 3: I mean, And I'll figure it out. I'll start eventually,
- 35:48Speaker 3: which he still made. But I mean at this point
- 35:50Speaker 3: he's not even getting scout team reps right now. I
- 35:53Speaker 3: mean he's literally I could see a situation it wouldn't
- 35:56Speaker 3: surprise me if they cut him, maybe not this year,
- 35:59Speaker 3: but next year. So I think it was just like
- 36:01Speaker 3: I said, it's just a major miscalculation, and probably in
- 36:06Speaker 3: his it probably would have been the best suit to
- 36:09Speaker 3: go to the Ravens for a lot of different reasons.
- 36:11Speaker 3: I agree with you, and I think I think he
- 36:18Speaker 3: has to. And when I say separate himself from his dad, dude,
- 36:22Speaker 3: you're not your dad. You are not that guy. You
- 36:26Speaker 3: have some legitimate talent, for sure, but you are not
- 36:30Speaker 3: your dad. And I think that's what I'm telling you,
- 36:32Speaker 3: I don't know him, but I think it's a lot
- 36:34Speaker 3: of that. I do think he sees himself as prime
- 36:37Speaker 3: time too, a prime time junior. And you ain't him,
- 36:41Speaker 3: You ain't him, by close by him, and you are
- 36:44Speaker 3: so far apart that you know you ain't him. Bro,
- 36:48Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, Because I mean, even if
- 36:50Speaker 3: you look at Colorado, he played well, he put up
- 36:52Speaker 3: some good numbers. Like I said, he's a legit I
- 36:54Speaker 3: think arm talent as far as accuracy and all those things,
- 36:57Speaker 3: ball placement like I mentioned before. But I mean, you
- 37:00Speaker 3: had a barely winning record there. You didn't light it
- 37:03Speaker 3: up as far as wins and losses are concerned. And athletically,
- 37:07Speaker 3: you're nowhere near Prome.
- 37:09Speaker 6: No.
- 37:09Speaker 4: Who created that monster? You know what I mean? I
- 37:12Speaker 4: mean an overinflated ego.
- 37:13Speaker 5: And here's the other part about the falsehood that I
- 37:16Speaker 5: wanted to bring up real quick because I know, you
- 37:18Speaker 5: know this is kind of off, this is kind of
- 37:20Speaker 5: off to the side conversation. But he's still not admitting
- 37:24Speaker 5: that the Ravens reached out to him, like he hasn't
- 37:28Speaker 5: publicly come out and said, in fact, I think one
- 37:32Speaker 5: of the reporters asked him about it, and he said,
- 37:34Speaker 5: my mind doesn't remember five months ago like past draft,
- 37:39Speaker 5: and we're focused on the now. So he wants to
- 37:42Speaker 5: sweep it under the rug. He doesn't want the bad
- 37:43Speaker 5: press that comes with it now. And to me, that's
- 37:46Speaker 5: all part of the this vibe that I get from him,
- 37:49Speaker 5: that it's he's just he thinks a lot of himself.
- 37:53Speaker 3: And if you're going to create that kind of conversation, okay,
- 37:57Speaker 3: and that kind of dialogue and and give us the
- 38:00Speaker 3: opportunity to ask the question like bra, why would you
- 38:03Speaker 3: why would you do that? Why don't you take go
- 38:05Speaker 3: wherever whoever gets you go and play right? He has
- 38:11Speaker 3: the idea of he is his dad, like I just
- 38:16Speaker 3: think he he thinks his and and and I don't
- 38:19Speaker 3: know if I can blame Dion Ford. I just think
- 38:23Speaker 3: he feels that way.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Oh you don't think played a part in that.
- 38:27Speaker 3: I think Dion saw him as a great player. But
- 38:31Speaker 3: I'm gonna, I'm gonna and it's hard not to have
- 38:34Speaker 3: Dion around you that rub off right, right. But but
- 38:39Speaker 3: I'll say this, if beonfair and and and imagine trying
- 38:45Speaker 3: to compare your son to you you're going to give
- 38:49Speaker 3: him the benefit of the doubt, Like, right, you know
- 38:51Speaker 3: what I'm saying, Because it's your son, you can't say, oh,
- 38:53Speaker 3: I was a ton better than my son. I'm speculating
- 39:00Speaker 3: and looking at who Dion was and what what's his
- 39:08Speaker 3: son's path? Where did he shine right to be great,
- 39:12Speaker 3: to be the first pick to be Yeah, I mean
- 39:16Speaker 3: it's he just doesn't have he Yeah, he just doesn't
- 39:19Speaker 3: have that. Deon is the greatest athlete ever. In my book,
- 39:21Speaker 3: he's the greatest athlete ever. There's no athlete greater than
- 39:26Speaker 3: Deon Sanders, So to compare yourself to that. But I
- 39:28Speaker 3: also think what happens too is that you know, when
- 39:32Speaker 3: we're talking about a quarterback, you are a CEO of
- 39:36Speaker 3: a multi billion dollar organization inside a multi global, trillion
- 39:42Speaker 3: dollar conglomerate. So you have to conduct yourself. You have
- 39:47Speaker 3: to be a certain way and the me me, guys,
- 39:51Speaker 3: I'm talking and let's just walk with me here. There's
- 39:54Speaker 3: never ever in the NFL history been a successful, multi
- 39:58Speaker 3: time Pro Bowler, super Bowl winning quarterback that's been a
- 40:02Speaker 3: MEMI guy. Those guys don't walk around with the go
- 40:04Speaker 3: play with thee. Those aren't though, And I'm not saying good, bad,
- 40:09Speaker 3: right or wrong. I'm just saying if you look at
- 40:11Speaker 3: the Joe Montanas, the Tom Brady's, the John Elways and
- 40:14Speaker 3: Steve McNair, the Warren Moons, even Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes,
- 40:18Speaker 3: even Aaron Rodgers on the field is a guy off
- 40:22Speaker 3: of he's quirky, but on the field you don't hear
- 40:25Speaker 3: say you don't hear his teammates, Brett Fahr, he may
- 40:28Speaker 3: be the closest with Joe Vial right, Jim McMahon, he
- 40:32Speaker 3: had that sort of ara, but he had like one
- 40:34Speaker 3: year and he was kind of fizzled after that. So
- 40:36Speaker 3: I'm saying from if you're an NFL quarterback, you have
- 40:40Speaker 3: to think like a CEO, and you have to present
- 40:43Speaker 3: like a CEO. And I think teams are looking at
- 40:46Speaker 3: that like we don't want that guy, even like if
- 40:48Speaker 3: you look at it, and I'll be quiet. But even
- 40:50Speaker 3: if a guy like Kirk Cousins, he's like he's not
- 40:53Speaker 3: your CEO, but he's like the entroim CEO. He can
- 40:56Speaker 3: come in, he can get your get your going, and
- 40:58Speaker 3: then he can go by this way. He's not long term,
- 41:00Speaker 3: but he sort of fits the bill, Russell Wilson fits
- 41:03Speaker 3: the bill, and then we can move on. So even
- 41:06Speaker 3: like a James Wissen and I think just shudor his
- 41:09Speaker 3: his provado is probably going to be his downfall. See
- 41:13Speaker 3: and I and and I and to that, I think
- 41:18Speaker 3: I think when I when I think of him as
- 41:20Speaker 3: a player, I think of him as an average draft
- 41:24Speaker 3: pick coming through. I think he sees himself as maybe
- 41:28Speaker 3: one of the best players in the draft. He's not.
- 41:33Speaker 3: And and so if you're if you're thinking yourself that way,
- 41:37Speaker 3: how are you what's coming across? What are you projecting?
- 41:40Speaker 3: What are the owners seeing? What's the coaches going to see?
- 41:43Speaker 3: And can't hide You can't hide that because that kind
- 41:46Speaker 3: of arrogance is a show up. If Dion didn't have
- 41:50Speaker 3: the skill set, we wouldn't know him as prime. You
- 41:54Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, We wouldn't know him. He'd be
- 41:56Speaker 3: a story that we remember, but he would never become prime.
- 42:01Speaker 3: This young man is not primed. And again, arrogance at
- 42:06Speaker 3: the quarterback position at the NFL level, it don't play
- 42:09Speaker 3: it just it just because it's it's never just. And
- 42:13Speaker 3: if you make it about you, you're going to make
- 42:15Speaker 3: everybody in the whole organization pete off and you're gonna
- 42:18Speaker 3: put a big old target on your forehead. So I
- 42:22Speaker 3: don't know. I just think we'll wait and see. But
- 42:24Speaker 3: I don't see this plan out well unless things dramatically.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Which one was going to get cut? Which one of y'all,
- 42:31Speaker 3: I said, he possibly get. I'm with you on that,
- 42:35Speaker 3: I really do. And Bro, if you ain't getting Scout
- 42:39Speaker 3: Team reps, I mean, maybe they don't want to get
- 42:44Speaker 3: your hurt. I mean, but yeah, because they don't want
- 42:46Speaker 3: to get your hurt because they don't want you to
- 42:48Speaker 3: have to linger if we cut you. That's true, because
- 42:53Speaker 3: you don't get when you stop getting reps, you know,
- 42:56Speaker 3: that's that's a bad sign. When you ain't number one.
- 43:00Speaker 3: If you're the number one guy, right, if you the
- 43:03Speaker 3: starter and you ain't getting a whole lot of reps,
- 43:06Speaker 3: that means we're protecting it. Yeah, yeah, if you ain't.
- 43:10Speaker 3: If you sitting there at number three, number four and
- 43:13Speaker 3: you ain't get no reps, we ain't taking no risk
- 43:16Speaker 3: of getting you hurt, because that might be a good
- 43:18Speaker 3: old trade commodity might package you up.
- 43:22Speaker 6: There you go.
- 43:24Speaker 4: Wish he'd went to the Ravens.
- 43:26Speaker 3: Let me ask this question. Is he tradable? I think so.
- 43:31Speaker 3: I think I think a team will Again, you're not
- 43:34Speaker 3: going to get a bunch for him as a fifth
- 43:36Speaker 3: round draft pick, So I think in a package. I don't.
- 43:38Speaker 3: I don't know we're gonna trade you and get all
- 43:40Speaker 3: this back. I don't know about that. But I think
- 43:42Speaker 3: he's he is tradable, trade cut her trade. I think
- 43:46Speaker 3: he's tradable in the package. But I said, if they
- 43:48Speaker 3: can't get what they looking for, I think he's cuttable,
- 43:51Speaker 3: and I don't I'm getting your fifth round draft pick. Unfortunately.
- 43:53Speaker 3: Did he deserve to go in fit?
- 43:54Speaker 6: Maybe?
- 43:55Speaker 3: Maybe not, But I think, you know, if it's if
- 43:58Speaker 3: it gets it On my end, the thing about it,
- 44:00Speaker 3: man the owner that came out and just said, I
- 44:02Speaker 3: ain't really you know what I'm saying that, And that's
- 44:07Speaker 3: what I'm saying. Older never talk outside of outside of J. Jones's.
- 44:12Speaker 3: Owner's never right, Literally, they never talked outside of d Jones.
- 44:16Speaker 3: He's the only especially not about cutting not a popular guy.
- 44:20Speaker 3: What you what you think of this draft? Pickles in
- 44:22Speaker 3: the fifth round? So they don't want I don't. Yeah,
- 44:25Speaker 3: it don't bowl at all.
- 44:27Speaker 5: Hey, let's talk a little more NFL. Let's talk about
- 44:29Speaker 5: what happened over in Cincinnati this past weekend. Yeah, yeah,
- 44:33Speaker 5: what's going on there? I mean, can can they not
- 44:35Speaker 5: find an O line to protect Joe?
- 44:38Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 44:38Speaker 3: I mean, like you, like I said, I mean, even
- 44:41Speaker 3: in lieu of an O line. I just think when
- 44:43Speaker 3: we traded Nixon a couple of years ago, running back,
- 44:46Speaker 3: I think that's who it was. Hopefully I'm not getting
- 44:48Speaker 3: his name incorrect, but you know, if you're not going
- 44:52Speaker 3: to have a great old line, you need a good
- 44:54Speaker 3: running game. Yes, you gotta give him something him standing
- 44:57Speaker 3: back there, I think he took the most Saxony League
- 45:00Speaker 3: last year. He's getting back hicked. And then when you're
- 45:03Speaker 3: down in games and you're trying to come back, that
- 45:05Speaker 3: means you're passing forty and fifty times a game. And
- 45:08Speaker 3: if you're doing that, obviously you succept people turning the
- 45:12Speaker 3: heat up. They're turning the heat up, and it's just
- 45:14Speaker 3: creating a situation where again it's kind of the inverse
- 45:17Speaker 3: where you have this great quarterback who's on the cuss
- 45:20Speaker 3: of of you know, internest prime and and really could
- 45:24Speaker 3: be elite. But I don't know if he has the
- 45:27Speaker 3: foundational pieces around him to actually fulfill that and hopefully,
- 45:31Speaker 3: like I said, he's been hurt the last few years.
- 45:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, is it that hard to draft offensive lineman?
- 45:37Speaker 4: I mean, is it? Is it?
- 45:41Speaker 5: I don't understand why that wouldn't be a focus when
- 45:43Speaker 5: the draft rolls around.
- 45:44Speaker 4: I mean, I understand the running back part too.
- 45:46Speaker 5: I agree with that, but but you could also draft
- 45:48Speaker 5: a couple of guys, you know some you.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Gotta get a couple. You gotta get a couple no
- 45:54Speaker 3: matter what. You gotta get d line O line guys
- 45:57Speaker 3: all the time, like every cause you need it. Somebody's
- 46:01Speaker 3: gonna go down. Some lineman if you if your left
- 46:03Speaker 3: tackles down, man, you gotta have it. You gotta have
- 46:06Speaker 3: a dude. You gotta have somebody who can make can
- 46:08Speaker 3: can protect it. But similar to Cleveland Tencin A Bengals
- 46:12Speaker 3: are terrible franchise. They're they're not a great historical franchise,
- 46:16Speaker 3: they're cheap, they're they're just not a good franch I
- 46:19Speaker 3: don't know what it was with Ohio teams, but it's
- 46:22Speaker 3: just not a good franchise. And these are the things
- 46:24Speaker 3: that happen when you're again you have a potential elite
- 46:28Speaker 3: quarterback and you're just getting banged up. And the more
- 46:32Speaker 3: times that happens, I think, just the his windows get
- 46:35Speaker 3: shorter and shorter. So hopefully we can you know, running back.
- 46:41Speaker 5: Possibility that he'll leave, I don't know about that. I
- 46:45Speaker 5: don't know what his contracts like at all.
- 46:47Speaker 3: I'm not I don't either, But I'm gonna say this,
- 46:50Speaker 3: the very first opportunity that he can play out his contract,
- 46:54Speaker 3: I think I'm playing that out. Yeah. And I mean
- 46:56Speaker 3: and for him, it's like, shoot, if I can go
- 46:58Speaker 3: to again a better organization, do I think the question?
- 47:01Speaker 3: And the thing is he is. He's a an Ohio kid.
- 47:04Speaker 3: So for him from the yeah, he's representing more than
- 47:07Speaker 3: just the Bengals. He's kind of sort of representing this
- 47:10Speaker 3: Ohio you know what I mean. But but but but
- 47:12Speaker 3: in representing, he's not he's not able to do what
- 47:19Speaker 3: he's capable of doing because he because of the organization itself.
- 47:24Speaker 3: I mean, it's not it's not helping it. Right, We'll
- 47:28Speaker 3: we'll see, man. I mean, like I said, hopefully, hopefully
- 47:32Speaker 3: things turn around.
- 47:33Speaker 6: Man.
- 47:33Speaker 3: And we've seen but we also see Patrick Mahomes. He's
- 47:36Speaker 3: going to Yeah, so he took the loss to the
- 47:38Speaker 3: Philadelphia Philadelphia Eagles, which was a really good game. And then,
- 47:41Speaker 3: like like I said last week, these games have been
- 47:45Speaker 3: fous great to that to that game, there is Kansas
- 47:55Speaker 3: City on the other side of great this like, is
- 48:02Speaker 3: Philadelphia now rising to the top, are they going and
- 48:06Speaker 3: Kansas City dropping? Or is that just Philadelphia beat it?
- 48:09Speaker 3: Here's what good team. Here's what I'll say. My opinion
- 48:12Speaker 3: is that yes, now Kansas City isn't done yet. But
- 48:16Speaker 3: like I said, when you spent the last four or
- 48:18Speaker 3: five six seasons making deep playoff runs, playing in the
- 48:21Speaker 3: Super Bowl and your core, you still have that core intact,
- 48:25Speaker 3: those guys are tired. Those guys are worn out. Those
- 48:28Speaker 3: guys you know how it goes, like you done played
- 48:29Speaker 3: a bunch of football. And I think for them it's
- 48:32Speaker 3: going to take them three, four or five, maybe even
- 48:36Speaker 3: six games ish. They'll get some wins in between there
- 48:38Speaker 3: to really warm it up. Like, I think, these guys
- 48:41Speaker 3: are incredibly tired because they played a bunch of football.
- 48:44Speaker 3: But I do think you know, as far as the
- 48:47Speaker 3: team doing the back end, and I think next year
- 48:49Speaker 3: moving forward, they're going to have to take a hard
- 48:51Speaker 3: look at some of the pieces and start to replace
- 48:53Speaker 3: some of their core pieces.
- 48:55Speaker 4: And here's some food for thought, guys.
- 48:56Speaker 5: If this is the first time since Week ten of
- 48:59Speaker 5: twenty twenty one, they are not the favorites to win
- 49:02Speaker 5: the AFC.
- 49:03Speaker 3: West, I'm telling you.
- 49:04Speaker 4: And we could be witnessing the Dynasty.
- 49:07Speaker 3: Broncos, the Chargers, the Raiders, they've all gotten better in
- 49:10Speaker 3: the AFC West. So everybody's getting better, and you're getting older,
- 49:14Speaker 3: and you got a bunch of mouths on see that's yeah,
- 49:16Speaker 3: And see, I think that's the hard piece when you
- 49:19Speaker 3: when you were great four years ago, five years ago,
- 49:22Speaker 3: ten years last year, you know, and year after year
- 49:27Speaker 3: after year after year, and you're you know, all of
- 49:31Speaker 3: a sudden, there's a there's a turnaround to somebody's gonna
- 49:36Speaker 3: get older. Okay, somebody's you know, a cornerback over there,
- 49:40Speaker 3: he's just paying Yes, all those kind of things, All
- 49:45Speaker 3: those kind of things happen and are distractions and change
- 49:49Speaker 3: the dynamics of the foundation of that core group of players,
- 49:53Speaker 3: and you watch them leave one by one. You know.
- 49:57Speaker 3: I can remember being in the Vikings and literally we
- 50:02Speaker 3: started we were we were doing some winning and had
- 50:06Speaker 3: some good games, had some good pushes going to the playoffs,
- 50:09Speaker 3: and then all of a sudden it was like two
- 50:12Speaker 3: or three guys gone. Yeah, two or three more guys gone.
- 50:15Speaker 3: You know, year after year season that season they start
- 50:19Speaker 3: chipping away at those guys who are who they're thinking,
- 50:24Speaker 3: we can do better than that.
- 50:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 50:25Speaker 3: I just they just played a bunch of football, man,
- 50:28Speaker 3: And like I but so you think it's a bunch
- 50:30Speaker 3: of football football. I mean, it's what you're saying. I
- 50:34Speaker 3: was guys, guys, you know, moving on to different teams organizations,
- 50:38Speaker 3: as you get successful, you want to get chase the
- 50:40Speaker 3: big count and count them out.
- 50:41Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 50:42Speaker 3: I ain't count them out. I just think it's gonna
- 50:43Speaker 3: take them a long time to warm up. Yeah. And
- 50:45Speaker 3: speaking of woman up, like, I watched the the New
- 50:48Speaker 3: York Giants and Cowboys game. Another great game it was.
- 50:52Speaker 3: I watched the kicker go out there and makes a
- 50:56Speaker 3: sixty four yard field goal with ten yards of spare. Yes,
- 51:01Speaker 3: that guy could have made it seventy yard.
- 51:04Speaker 4: A former soccer player or something like.
- 51:07Speaker 3: These kickers are crazy crazy. I can't believe the foot
- 51:12Speaker 3: the leg on these guys.
- 51:14Speaker 4: And I'm he won the game too. For the Cowboys.
- 51:17Speaker 3: They want to get Yeah, that that wasn't that wasn't
- 51:19Speaker 3: the winning kick.
- 51:20Speaker 5: They want to know, I know, the sixty four yard
- 51:22Speaker 5: but then they kick right, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that's
- 51:25Speaker 5: what I mean.
- 51:25Speaker 3: I'm trying like, if you kicked a forty some yarder,
- 51:30Speaker 3: that was a big deal and more more, And if
- 51:33Speaker 3: you got a fifty oh my gosh, that's that's crazy.
- 51:37Speaker 3: This dude's kicking it from the other side of the Yes, yes,
- 51:40Speaker 3: he's on the other side of you know what I'm saying,
- 51:44Speaker 3: Like he's gold.
- 51:45Speaker 4: I'm telling him player the Cowboys.
- 51:49Speaker 3: When he lined it up, I'm looking like, hell, I'm thinking,
- 51:52Speaker 3: like it'll be short, It'll be it'll be wide, like
- 51:55Speaker 3: just wide left, bro. That thing was straight down the
- 51:58Speaker 3: middle and he had like ten yards of stick. It
- 52:00Speaker 3: was beautiful. A seventy yard field goal. It was. It
- 52:04Speaker 3: was amazing, man, And like, how does that change the
- 52:07Speaker 3: dynamic of the game. Now you team's todd It's get
- 52:15Speaker 3: to the fifth. All you got to do is get
- 52:17Speaker 3: to the fair get and you're good.
- 52:19Speaker 5: You get your your kicker cans up a whole lot
- 52:23Speaker 5: of opportunities for the whole team, the offense, the defense, everybody.
- 52:26Speaker 4: When you know your kicker can do that.
- 52:28Speaker 3: I think, yes, if you don't have that kicker, yeah,
- 52:31Speaker 3: you're in trouble. Yeah, because because teams are gonna beat
- 52:35Speaker 3: you in that last second. With those kind of kickers,
- 52:39Speaker 3: I can't even and I don't know if it's just
- 52:41Speaker 3: the whole soccer that it's just the soccer leg that's
- 52:44Speaker 3: just so much stronger, so much better than it than
- 52:48Speaker 3: just quote regular kickers, guys who have just kicked. But
- 52:52Speaker 3: I think, now all those dudes play soccer.
- 52:55Speaker 5: Did you No, you didn't, Okay, think what would even
- 53:01Speaker 5: make you think?
- 53:02Speaker 3: What would even make you think that? And also I
- 53:07Speaker 3: know we talked the NFL. I don't think we have
- 53:09Speaker 3: that much time left. But there were some great college games. Uh,
- 53:12Speaker 3: you had Georgia versus excuse me, Clemson versus Georgia Tech,
- 53:15Speaker 3: Georgia versus Tennessee. Obviously we talked about the backyard brawl,
- 53:20Speaker 3: you know Alabama not Alabama. Sorry, but yet there was
- 53:23Speaker 3: just some great again Texas A and m versus Dame.
- 53:28Speaker 3: Just great. It's been just great football. And I just
- 53:32Speaker 3: want to talk about four seconds. I know, like a
- 53:34Speaker 3: lot of people talking about like arch Manny and he
- 53:37Speaker 3: struggled against Utah, and I just want to go on
- 53:41Speaker 3: record and say, I think it's just it's just my
- 53:44Speaker 3: opinion from watching him, he has a serious shoulder issue.
- 53:47Speaker 3: You think, just my opinion. I have no insight, I
- 53:50Speaker 3: have no details, but just watching him throw the football,
- 53:52Speaker 3: Doctor lewis in the house telling you just being a quarterback,
- 53:55Speaker 3: he has a serious shoulder problem. I don't think he's
- 53:58Speaker 3: letting anybody know what. They're keeping it in house because
- 54:01Speaker 3: I wouldn't say it's a mechanical issue, because obviously he's
- 54:04Speaker 3: a man, and he's got his uncles and they could
- 54:06Speaker 3: and even his dad and his granddaddy probably worked through
- 54:09Speaker 3: a mechanical issue. But I think he has a serious
- 54:12Speaker 3: show the problem. And I think in the next couple
- 54:14Speaker 3: of months, depending on how things fall, if they feels
- 54:17Speaker 3: by himself, well, I think it's already shown. But I
- 54:20Speaker 3: think they'll they'll say something about it if they find themselves,
- 54:23Speaker 3: like outside the playoffs, and to repair it because something's
- 54:26Speaker 3: not right, because he's totally inaccurate. I mean, he's missing
- 54:29Speaker 3: wide open guys and routine. Why wouldn't you, Why wouldn't
- 54:32Speaker 3: you if I was an uncle, I was a dad
- 54:36Speaker 3: and had played. And I know that I'm getting him
- 54:40Speaker 3: out of that, but that can't you can't make his
- 54:41Speaker 3: grown man. You can't make it. And plus I think
- 54:44Speaker 3: he's thinking it's a lot of pressures his year, possibly
- 54:47Speaker 3: win the Heisman, he could set himself up for a
- 54:49Speaker 3: first round draft.
- 54:51Speaker 13: But yeah, that's it's over now, Yeah, that's done. But well,
- 54:55Speaker 13: if he was, where's the SEC if he wins, you think.
- 55:03Speaker 3: It's all Yeah, the only way it could even remote,
- 55:09Speaker 3: the only one, the only way that that's going to
- 55:14Speaker 3: be possible if his dad and uncles and all them
- 55:16Speaker 3: getting But I'm saying, if you win the SEC, Like
- 55:20Speaker 3: right now, I think they're going into SEC play. So
- 55:23Speaker 3: it is individual, I know, But I'm just saying, if
- 55:25Speaker 3: he if he just shows out he has great games
- 55:28Speaker 3: the next six seven grand, you don't think he can
- 55:30Speaker 3: claw his way back. I don't think there's the games
- 55:33Speaker 3: would be would have to be so great. I mean,
- 55:38Speaker 3: you're right that that it's because he's looked terrible. Yeah,
- 55:42Speaker 3: and he'd I mean, he'd have to like break records
- 55:45Speaker 3: and you know what I'm saying to have any any
- 55:49Speaker 3: legitimate But I'm telling you and I want to here here. First,
- 55:52Speaker 3: he has a shoulder issue and he has a shower.
- 55:55Speaker 3: Now I'm telling watch, I can tell by the way
- 55:58Speaker 3: he throws something wrong. Okay, your quarterback, you know how
- 56:03Speaker 3: it's supposed to look. Is it possible that he just
- 56:06Speaker 3: is it's just an awkward throw. Nah, because the way
- 56:10Speaker 3: he's overcome, like when you have a shoulder issue, like
- 56:12Speaker 3: for example, some throws, you're not gonna be able to
- 56:15Speaker 3: set your feet. You're gonna run you how that goes,
- 56:17Speaker 3: So it's sort of a body movement. And then it's
- 56:19Speaker 3: some issues you have a defensive linement holding and you
- 56:22Speaker 3: you just gotta flick it out there. The way he's
- 56:25Speaker 3: throwing the ball, it's almost it's a body push because
- 56:27Speaker 3: he can't get rotation on that throw. So he's not rotating.
- 56:30Speaker 3: He's not rotating, and he's not coming over, so it's
- 56:33Speaker 3: elbow sunk. And he's almost like a three quarters a
- 56:36Speaker 3: half to almost a side arm because I think he's
- 56:40Speaker 3: having trouble getting that shoulder all the way up, excuse me,
- 56:42Speaker 3: getting that shoulder and the elbow aligned, and and and
- 56:45Speaker 3: he's and he's almost pushing the ball, which if you're
- 56:48Speaker 3: pushing the ball is going to create a level of inaccuracy.
- 56:50Speaker 4: So why wouldn't.
- 56:53Speaker 3: No way, But you're not gonna leave he again. He
- 56:57Speaker 3: may not be telling him this, you know.
- 57:01Speaker 4: If you can tell, they can tell.
- 57:02Speaker 3: I would I would think I would think so. And
- 57:05Speaker 3: but but I do understand who's going to bench. Yeah
- 57:09Speaker 3: they're not doing Yeah, you're not doing that.
- 57:11Speaker 5: For again so horribly that it ruins his career for forever.
- 57:18Speaker 3: But I mean, it could be like I said, and
- 57:20Speaker 3: I say, serious, let me take that back. It could
- 57:22Speaker 3: be tend to night, it could be a budget, could
- 57:26Speaker 3: could be sore anything. It's something. But he's not. He's
- 57:30Speaker 3: not himself. I was gonna say, I'm saying, go watch him,
- 57:33Speaker 3: Like I said, anybody listening to y'all, anybody go watch
- 57:36Speaker 3: some clips of him throwing and you'll see them in
- 57:39Speaker 3: acurate throws and somethings off. That's just not mechanical. Well,
- 57:45Speaker 3: we we got we got some doctor, some some doctor
- 57:49Speaker 3: from from.
- 57:51Speaker 5: Quarterback and quarterback coming out of.
- 57:55Speaker 3: What's interesting to me, though, is what I know about
- 57:59Speaker 3: this conversation is that when you're watching it, you're not
- 58:05Speaker 3: like just watching the game, like you're watching that position.
- 58:08Speaker 3: You're watching at that.
- 58:09Speaker 4: Position that's his mindset quarterback.
- 58:12Speaker 3: So you don't really just watch the game. You you
- 58:14Speaker 3: you're you're kind of watching. When I'm watching you, I'll
- 58:19Speaker 3: start offensive line, all kind of tape there, then immediately
- 58:24Speaker 3: just go Then I'm going downfield. I wish I could
- 58:27Speaker 3: watch the game from an up from the other angle.
- 58:29Speaker 3: I wish they would show the game from behind the
- 58:31Speaker 3: quarterback so I can really just see downfield. So that's
- 58:35Speaker 3: kind of the way in which I watched the game,
- 58:37Speaker 3: you know what I mean. And then when quarterbacks are throwing,
- 58:40Speaker 3: I'm not looking at just the pos mechanics. I'm looking
- 58:42Speaker 3: at ball place kind of where they're you know, different
- 58:46Speaker 3: things like that like Pennis has a he has he
- 58:50Speaker 3: has damn Marino quickness and that thing jumps off his
- 58:53Speaker 3: office hand. Pinnick from the quarterback from Atlanta pum he does.
- 59:00Speaker 3: I wondered if it's that is how I say see
- 59:03Speaker 3: it looks like, yeah, okay, so here's here's here's something
- 59:08Speaker 3: that's interesting, and we're getting ready to have to get
- 59:11Speaker 3: out of here. But like for me, I can't, like
- 59:14Speaker 3: I'm I can't watch defensive backs. I don't like to
- 59:18Speaker 3: watch it because when I watch, I'm I don't like
- 59:22Speaker 3: the critique it cause you know, I don't want to say,
- 59:24Speaker 3: like somebody who's really good in the league now and
- 59:27Speaker 3: I'm like, oh man, he you know, he he didn't
- 59:29Speaker 3: do this, he didn't do that. I don't like that
- 59:31Speaker 3: because I feel like people were doing that when I
- 59:35Speaker 3: was playing, you know, you know, And I just feel
- 59:38Speaker 3: uncomfortable in critiquing defensive backs on the defensive side of
- 59:44Speaker 3: the ball.
- 59:45Speaker 5: He doesn't open my eyes because it must be hard,
- 59:48Speaker 5: like you're a quarterback, you're a former defensive player to
- 59:51Speaker 5: watch these other like you're analyzing. I never even thought
- 59:54Speaker 5: about this made this connection different. You guys like you
- 59:57Speaker 5: guys don't watch the game through the same like mindset
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: that I do. Like I'm not analyzing, like I would
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: have never thought about his shoulder, like I just think,
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: oh he's off, you know, or you're you're you're comparing
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: you know, these players to you know yourself or others.
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: I just never thought about it.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: I mean, then we've got to wrap up. But it's
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: not even hosting for Pitt playing the backyard ball he took.
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: He looked uncomfortable hole game, and I knew he was
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: gonna have a rough game, the whole game, because he
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: couldn't see the field. All right, Well, ladies and gentlemen,
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: we've got to get out of here. We will catch
