- 0:27Speaker 1: in Mike d Mike Ntilier WWL Radio on the Farm
- 0:32Speaker 1: Bureau Insurance guest Line. We talked extensively last week with
- 0:37Speaker 1: Mike on Drew Brees going into the Pro Football Hall
- 0:41Speaker 1: of Fame.
- 0:41Speaker 2: That will be this weekend.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Weekend, and it'll be awesome and there will be plenty
- 0:46Speaker 1: of Saints fans with water in their eyes as Sean
- 0:49Speaker 1: Payton will be the presenter and Drew Brees is going
- 0:52Speaker 1: in as first ballot Hall of Famer as QB one
- 0:56Speaker 1: for the New Orland Saints and the greatest player to
- 0:58Speaker 1: ever play in the organization. But I'm going to start
- 1:00Speaker 1: off with a little bit different angle here today, Mike,
- 1:04Speaker 1: who has a better chance of going to the playoffs
- 1:08Speaker 1: LSU or the New Orleans Saints with the weak NFC South.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Uh, Yeah, it's a good question. I would lean toward
- 1:19Speaker 3: LSU me too, only because I mean, you know, the
- 1:23Speaker 3: the talent they've accumulated would certainly give them an opportunity.
- 1:31Speaker 3: You have approven quarterback and Sam Levitt, you've redone your
- 1:36Speaker 3: offensive line. We'll see how quickly all that comes together upfront. Defensively,
- 1:44Speaker 3: You've got some pieces in place there, especially in the secondary,
- 1:50Speaker 3: where I think that they can make it work. But
- 1:54Speaker 3: it's a rough early schedule when you talk about starting
- 1:58Speaker 3: off against Clemson and then having Ole Miss and Texas
- 2:04Speaker 3: A and M back to back weeks the end September,
- 2:08Speaker 3: So I would lean toward LSU. I just think the
- 2:13Speaker 3: Saints are one year away, and we see it in
- 2:18Speaker 3: the practices, which you know started last Wednesday, and that
- 2:22Speaker 3: you know, the defenses that sort of had the upper
- 2:26Speaker 3: hand across the board. Uh. And that's not a surprise
- 2:31Speaker 3: to me because you know, basically eight of the eleven
- 2:36Speaker 3: starters from a year ago on defense are back and
- 2:40Speaker 3: some of the key role players are back on offense.
- 2:45Speaker 3: And you know, you got new receivers, new tight ends,
- 2:50Speaker 3: David Edwards, Travis a Chan and still a young quarterback
- 2:55Speaker 3: in this league. So I think it's it's a dead
- 2:59Speaker 3: heat to see who can hit the tape first. Uh.
- 3:02Speaker 3: In the NFC South, but I would certainly lean toward
- 3:06Speaker 3: l s U.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Mike Detillier L s U Saints in Chadder on the
- 3:11Speaker 1: Farm Bureau Insurance guest line. Uh, Mike, could you make
- 3:15Speaker 1: a I think you can make a strong argument that
- 3:19Speaker 1: LSU has the best tight end duo in the country.
- 3:24Speaker 3: They have the best tight end and treds Green I
- 3:27Speaker 3: know that. Uh Huh. I don't know about duel, but
- 3:31Speaker 3: they got one who's who's a cut above. And uh.
- 3:36Speaker 3: We have heard Lane Kiffin talk about this in some
- 3:40Speaker 3: of his pressers on Tuesday, that he would give about
- 3:45Speaker 3: you know, his unique talent, uh, and that he's going
- 3:49Speaker 3: to use him different ways. I don't think you're going
- 3:53Speaker 3: to see him use like a traditional in line tight end.
- 4:00Speaker 3: They're gonna flank him out, and I think he wants
- 4:04Speaker 3: to cause some issues of downfield from a coverage standpoint.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Freda as a six foot seven and a little change,
- 4:16Speaker 3: there's nobody that's going to match up with him otherwise.
- 4:19Speaker 3: I know that. And athletically, you know, he's a cut above.
- 4:24Speaker 3: He's a guy that literally could have played college basketball
- 4:28Speaker 3: if that was what he really tried to pursue. But man,
- 4:34Speaker 3: he has some talented and last year and remember and
- 4:39Speaker 3: we've got it on tape. You know, we had Brian
- 4:42Speaker 3: Kelly on and I asked him about feeding the football,
- 4:46Speaker 3: you know, more to Trade as Green his dealer is.
- 4:49Speaker 3: You know, you know we think Trade is a great talent,
- 4:52Speaker 3: all this and that, but you know, we want to
- 4:54Speaker 3: distribute it to everybody. Keep everybody healthy, Okay happy. My
- 4:58Speaker 3: thing is, man, the hell with that. I want to
- 5:02Speaker 3: win and he and he's my biggest weapon, and feed
- 5:07Speaker 3: it to him. And you know he talked about Barry
- 5:11Speaker 3: and Brown, but you know, they didn't feed the football
- 5:13Speaker 3: of him at all after they brought him in from Kentucky.
- 5:18Speaker 3: So I don't know what was in his head about
- 5:20Speaker 3: what offensively he wanted to do last year, but you
- 5:25Speaker 3: can bank it. Tradees is healthy. He gonna see a
- 5:29Speaker 3: lot of footballs going his way. Man, if I was kipping, okay,
- 5:37Speaker 3: we ain't reinventing the wheel here. Six foot seven plus
- 5:42Speaker 3: tight end flanked out, Uh, You're gonna get a lot
- 5:45Speaker 3: of footballs thrown your way.
- 5:47Speaker 1: A lot, man, Can you Matt in the college game?
- 5:50Speaker 1: Six foot seven in the red zone? I mean, Mike,
- 5:56Speaker 1: that's that's tough. To defend and stop. I mean, it's
- 5:59Speaker 1: tough in the NFL, but they can do it. In
- 6:02Speaker 1: the college game, I'm not sure that you can.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Well, especially the way Kiffin's gonna you know, because he
- 6:11Speaker 3: tries to have you guard every inch of grass out
- 6:15Speaker 3: on that field, and he's going to create some things
- 6:20Speaker 3: that is going to give trade As a better opportunity
- 6:25Speaker 3: to make more plays downfield, not only red zone and
- 6:30Speaker 3: short yardage, but also over the middle, which you know,
- 6:34Speaker 3: my thing is, and will you watch film today of
- 6:39Speaker 3: college football, the biggest openings you have are right smack
- 6:44Speaker 3: dab right down the middle because everybody's trying to cover
- 6:49Speaker 3: the edges, they're trying to cover the chalk, you know,
- 6:52Speaker 3: and so you got some big holes in the middle
- 6:55Speaker 3: of the field. And that's I think part of you know,
- 7:00Speaker 3: Lane's madness and how he coaches and how he tries
- 7:04Speaker 3: to get these mismatches downfield with players and in situational football.
- 7:12Speaker 3: So yeah, I think trade As is going to have
- 7:16Speaker 3: a super year. He was one of three guys that
- 7:20Speaker 3: he would constantly talk about, Well, one thing with coach Giffon,
- 7:24Speaker 3: He's not one to throw a lot of bouquets out
- 7:27Speaker 3: to players, but trade As was one of three. He
- 7:33Speaker 3: would consistently talk about how good they were.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Mike Ntilier WWL Radio, New Orleans on the Out of
- 7:42Speaker 1: Bounds Show ESPN one oh five nine, The Zone your
- 7:46Speaker 1: next video wall for your business or church powered by
- 7:48Speaker 1: Sound and Communications. All right, Mike, what is the what's
- 7:53Speaker 1: the best most talented unit on this twenty twenty six
- 7:58Speaker 1: LSU football team as they get ready to host game
- 8:01Speaker 1: day in Clemson.
- 8:03Speaker 3: I think it's a linebacker with a healthy with Weeks
- 8:08Speaker 3: and TJ. Dottery at linebacker and you know you got
- 8:14Speaker 3: With Weeks his brother backing it up. I think that's
- 8:19Speaker 3: that to me, is a very good unit at the
- 8:22Speaker 3: linebacker position. We saw last year once Wit went down
- 8:28Speaker 3: and he actually hurt that ankle in a in the
- 8:37Speaker 3: game that they played. He broke it. It was late
- 8:42Speaker 3: last year and it was in one of the bowl games.
- 8:45Speaker 3: It was in the bowl game that LSU played, and
- 8:49Speaker 3: he went down and they were limiting him in practice,
- 8:55Speaker 3: and I get what Kelly was doing. He was trying
- 8:57Speaker 3: to save him for games. But he didn't quite look
- 9:01Speaker 3: the same. But even if he was seventy five percent,
- 9:05Speaker 3: he was so good, you know, he was better than
- 9:08Speaker 3: anything else they had, and he's healthy now ready to roll.
- 9:14Speaker 3: We saw Dotttery and what he did at Old Miss
- 9:17Speaker 3: the last couple of years, where you know he was
- 9:19Speaker 3: a good football player for him. So I think the
- 9:21Speaker 3: linebacker position is probably the strongest spot for them. The
- 9:31Speaker 3: crazy thing I think on offense maybe at halfback because
- 9:35Speaker 3: of Harlem Barry returning, Cayden Durham returning, and a young
- 9:42Speaker 3: man that if I would have told you this when
- 9:45Speaker 3: they signed him, most people wouldn't have believed it, but
- 9:48Speaker 3: you know it was taking a lot of the reps
- 9:51Speaker 3: late in the spring. Was Dylan Jones at running back,
- 9:55Speaker 3: who they got from Wisconsin. He's built totally different than
- 9:59Speaker 3: Harlem Our Cayden. He's a big thunder back. And you know,
- 10:05Speaker 3: I do know one thing Kiffin likes that he likes
- 10:08Speaker 3: the guy that can run hard between the tackles. Harlem
- 10:12Speaker 3: tremendous foot speed, quickness, sees the whole gets through it.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Cayden Durham has been a good player on this team.
- 10:20Speaker 3: I'm shocked both of them return to LSU. I thought
- 10:24Speaker 3: they would lose at least one, but both of them returned.
- 10:28Speaker 3: And then Dylan's really, really played well in the spring,
- 10:31Speaker 3: got a lot of accolades, and that's not coming from
- 10:34Speaker 3: the press. That's coming from guys that are on the
- 10:38Speaker 3: team and having an opportunity to talk to him, they
- 10:41Speaker 3: were like, man, we don't know who this Dylan Jones was,
- 10:44Speaker 3: but we sure know now and he gives us another dimension.
- 10:49Speaker 3: So the running back corps of those three I think
- 10:53Speaker 3: is a nice strength for this LSU team. Man, they
- 10:57Speaker 3: got a ton of receivers. How that all shakes out
- 11:00Speaker 3: remains to be seen and will it be kind of
- 11:03Speaker 3: down in distance on how it works out. You know,
- 11:07Speaker 3: one thing with l s U, they produced receivers, a
- 11:10Speaker 3: ton of them throughout the years, and I think that
- 11:16Speaker 3: eventually may end up being the strength of this team.
- 11:22Speaker 3: But that that's got that's still a little bit of
- 11:26Speaker 3: a work in progress because we haven't really seen them
- 11:29Speaker 3: work out with Sam Levitt practice wise. Now, they've done
- 11:35Speaker 3: a lot of stuff on their own, and Sam has
- 11:38Speaker 3: sort of orchestrated that of working out on their own
- 11:43Speaker 3: and they you know, they've even traveled on the road
- 11:47Speaker 3: where I think it was seven or eight receivers along
- 11:51Speaker 3: with Levitt that you know, they went out of state
- 11:54Speaker 3: and and and worked for three days together. So it's
- 12:00Speaker 3: going to be an interesting offense on how all this
- 12:02Speaker 3: comes together and how quickly it comes together. The key
- 12:06Speaker 3: there certainly is Levit. But so to answer your question,
- 12:10Speaker 3: I think right now would be running back linebacker, but
- 12:13Speaker 3: eventually I think it'll end up being wide receiver.
- 12:16Speaker 2: All right.
- 12:17Speaker 1: So Mike Dettillier on the Out of Bounds Show LSU
- 12:20Speaker 1: hosts Game Day and Clemson and Dabo, and Clemson's coming
- 12:26Speaker 1: off a really rough year where Dabo called out his
- 12:30Speaker 1: fan base and was like fire me and had to
- 12:33Speaker 1: recite his resume throughout the season and all kinds of
- 12:36Speaker 1: It's like crazy pills over in Clemson. So we'll see
- 12:38Speaker 1: what's happening here. Uh, Mike, do you think this is
- 12:41Speaker 1: a pretty pretty big mismatch here as far as uh
- 12:47Speaker 1: LSU and and and Clemson Labor Day weekend?
- 12:52Speaker 3: No, I don't think it's a mismatch. Clemson's still got
- 12:56Speaker 3: talent on that team. Uh. Year, I thought they were
- 13:01Speaker 3: they were a bit dishoveled. Uh sometimes in crucial points
- 13:06Speaker 3: of games that that there was a little kind of
- 13:12Speaker 3: misdirection and not knowing exactly what to do. I can't
- 13:19Speaker 3: say that I've seen a lot of that before at Clemson,
- 13:23Speaker 3: but they seemed a little bit disheveled about how to
- 13:27Speaker 3: handle some situations. And you know, you had a veteran
- 13:32Speaker 3: quarterback and you had some pieces of the puzzle there.
- 13:36Speaker 3: They they just didn't seem to be all on the
- 13:40Speaker 3: same page. And a defense that was really heralded before
- 13:45Speaker 3: the season started in play very good at times, and
- 13:51Speaker 3: you're talking about you know, they got two guys up
- 13:54Speaker 3: front that you know, ended up being really high. You
- 13:57Speaker 3: have choices, you know, in Peter Woods and TJ. Park,
- 14:00Speaker 3: and what happened there. It really never came together for them,
- 14:07Speaker 3: and losing some of the games that they did, it
- 14:11Speaker 3: was head scratching a little bit about how did this
- 14:15Speaker 3: all fall apart for Clemson. So it's certainly a critical
- 14:20Speaker 3: year because the fan base, Man, if there's some unhappy
- 14:26Speaker 3: people there, it's in Clemson, because you know, you got
- 14:29Speaker 3: them used to winning and winning big and I'm not
- 14:32Speaker 3: just talking about no conference championship. I'm talking about national championship.
- 14:38Speaker 3: And they're not real happy, and they're not real happy
- 14:41Speaker 3: about getting lashed out at by the head coach. And
- 14:46Speaker 3: remember Brian Kelly started doing the exact same thing here
- 14:50Speaker 3: at LSU, lashing out at media, lashing out at fans,
- 14:56Speaker 3: everything else. Man, when that starts to happen to a coach,
- 15:00Speaker 3: I will be honest with you. You you can hear
- 15:03Speaker 3: the saying pauling out of the hour gone, no doubt.
- 15:08Speaker 2: No doubt.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Mike Detillier on ESPN one oh five nine to the Zone.
- 15:13Speaker 1: LSU will host game Day and Clemson Lavery Day weekend.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Then they'll basically take a week off and beat somebody
- 15:21Speaker 1: fifty six to zero LA Tech, and then they go
- 15:24Speaker 1: to Ole Miss and the Old Miss will host game Day.
- 15:26Speaker 1: This could be crazy, the spotlight and the uh, you know,
- 15:30Speaker 1: media around Kiffen. You mentioned Kelly didn't do a good job.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I mean he caught out the fan base kind of challenge.
- 15:38Speaker 1: That's not what you do. I think Kiffen has handled
- 15:41Speaker 1: it really well. Mike d the last seven months or
- 15:44Speaker 1: so being in bat Rouge in that he knows the
- 15:48Speaker 1: expectations are sky high. They went out and landed a
- 15:51Speaker 1: really good transfer class and high school class and Levitt
- 15:54Speaker 1: and so on. But he understands people think they're going
- 15:58Speaker 1: to go twelve to zero and they're not. But I
- 16:00Speaker 1: think he's been able to handle it well in his
- 16:03Speaker 1: media hits.
- 16:04Speaker 2: How do you see it, Mike d.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Yeah, for the most part, he's done pretty well with it.
- 16:10Speaker 3: He's played, he is saying, to their tune, okay, and
- 16:15Speaker 3: when you're getting paid the amount of money he's getting paid, man,
- 16:18Speaker 3: you learn how to sing it real quick. And so yeah,
- 16:23Speaker 3: I think he's done a good job of playing to
- 16:25Speaker 3: the to the fan base. He knows expectations here and
- 16:31Speaker 3: even he talked about, you know, when he first went
- 16:34Speaker 3: to Ole miss and there's no comparing what happened when
- 16:39Speaker 3: he first hit Oxford and then him coming to Baton
- 16:43Speaker 3: Rouge man rebuild what I mean, Uh, I don't want
- 16:49Speaker 3: to hear that. You know, we're paying you all this money.
- 16:52Speaker 3: We want you to do one thing when and no
- 16:58Speaker 3: other stuff around it. Just win. And so it's it's
- 17:02Speaker 3: gonna be a lot of expectations on him and and
- 17:07Speaker 3: how things go. But I think overall, what he's been
- 17:11Speaker 3: able to do in getting players high school wise from
- 17:15Speaker 3: the state of Louisiana to buy in and in the
- 17:19Speaker 3: transfer portal that was his wheelhouse, I think most people
- 17:25Speaker 3: thought that's where he would do very well. And I
- 17:28Speaker 3: think you know, we haven't seen it on the field yet,
- 17:33Speaker 3: but you know overall from the players he's been able
- 17:36Speaker 3: to bring in, uh, that that's gonna be a strong
- 17:40Speaker 3: point of his team. When you know, again, I brought
- 17:43Speaker 3: up trade as the other two guys he he really
- 17:46Speaker 3: talked tremendous amount about. One was Jordan Seaton, uh, the
- 17:51Speaker 3: tackle from Colorado. The other one was ty Binifield from
- 17:55Speaker 3: Boise State, the safety. He had spoken glowingly about both
- 18:02Speaker 3: of those guys. So you can you get it that
- 18:08Speaker 3: that was gonna be the strength of that football team.
- 18:11Speaker 3: And man, you know, I just can't wait to see
- 18:15Speaker 3: how it all pieces together. And the one thing with Lane,
- 18:21Speaker 3: we all know, if he gets a chance to pounge you,
- 18:27Speaker 3: he's gonna load the boot up. He's gonna load it
- 18:32Speaker 3: and pounge you as much as he can, uh to
- 18:35Speaker 3: prove a point that, hey, I'm not just here for
- 18:40Speaker 3: the for the ball, crawfish and the barbecue shrimp.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Had Mike Detillier w WL Radio.
- 18:50Speaker 1: We got time for one more, Mike, d Have you
- 18:53Speaker 1: had Eddie O on in the last week or two
- 18:57Speaker 1: or so.
- 18:59Speaker 3: No, haven't He's been. He's been busy with stuff. I
- 19:04Speaker 3: think the last time was probably three weeks ago. We
- 19:07Speaker 3: had him on and he you know, he's all fired
- 19:09Speaker 3: up about coaching again. Man, he you know, I know
- 19:14Speaker 3: from all the conversations we've had since he got fired
- 19:19Speaker 3: at LSU, he talked about getting back and coach again.
- 19:23Speaker 3: He had some opportunities a couple of north and hey,
- 19:29Speaker 3: my blood's too fin get up there, no multi boy,
- 19:34Speaker 3: you know so. But yeah, man, he's all fired up
- 19:38Speaker 3: about it. Doing it in Louisiana, coming back and working
- 19:43Speaker 3: with the defensive line. That's his wheelhouse as a guy.
- 19:47Speaker 3: Was recruited and coached thirteen NFL first round picks, and
- 19:55Speaker 3: he thinks he's got a couple more on this football team,
- 19:58Speaker 3: younger guys. And I think that that was a big
- 20:01Speaker 3: part of it too, that him being able to help plane,
- 20:06Speaker 3: kip and navigate through some things here, you know, at
- 20:11Speaker 3: l s uh, you know, and Lane's always talked about
- 20:14Speaker 3: it's different here, and yet it is. It is different here,
- 20:18Speaker 3: and I think Ed's been able to kind of help
- 20:20Speaker 3: out in that manner and being able to he knows
- 20:23Speaker 3: every high school coach around. Man. We stood on the
- 20:27Speaker 3: sidelines for one of the championship games and and man,
- 20:33Speaker 3: he was a magnet for it. I mean, all the
- 20:35Speaker 3: coaches coming around, and I told us to Coach Will
- 20:40Speaker 3: Haul at Tulane, they had a junior day where they
- 20:44Speaker 3: brought in a whole bunch of juniors to tour the
- 20:48Speaker 3: campus at Tulane and everything else. And you know, his
- 20:52Speaker 3: son is the tight ends coach at Tulane, Edson and Tyler.
- 20:57Speaker 3: And I never saw one picture of somebody take a
- 21:01Speaker 3: picture with Will Hall that I saw posting online, but
- 21:05Speaker 3: I must have seen about thirty of them with coach
- 21:08Speaker 3: o if I weren't have known any bedos for he
- 21:12Speaker 3: was the head coach at Lay. He laughed him, He's.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Like, I can't turn them down they come over to there.
- 21:18Speaker 4: I was like, no, I get it, I get it.
- 21:20Speaker 4: I even brought it up to Coach Hall, who laughed
- 21:22Speaker 4: and he was like, man, anytime he wants to come
- 21:25Speaker 4: on this sideline, he's he's welcome to do it. But yeah,
- 21:31Speaker 4: it was funny to see all those pictures and these kids.
- 21:34Speaker 4: They treat him like he's some kind of rock star,
- 21:38Speaker 4: you know, And he just turned sixty five years old.
- 21:41Speaker 4: It was sixteen, seventeen years old, and they treat him
- 21:45Speaker 4: like he's some rock star. So yeah, got a good
- 21:47Speaker 4: laugh about that.
- 21:49Speaker 2: That's so good. Eddio Man of the people.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Oh, Mike de Tilier at Mike de Tilier on Twitter,
- 21:56Speaker 1: Afternoon Drive WWL Radio. He does Saints in LS you
- 22:00Speaker 1: game days. The man is everywhere at Mike Detilier on Twitter.
- 22:07Speaker 1: I know Mike will be locked in this weekend as
- 22:10Speaker 1: somebody who he's interviewed a couple hundred times is inducted
- 22:15Speaker 1: into the.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Pro Football Hall of Fame.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Number nine to go, Drew Brees Goes into Canton this weekend.
