- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to today's episode of the Daily Writer Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: As you probably know, this episode is part of a series that we're doing called The Writer's Path: Seven Steps to Building a Writing Business.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: So if you're just now joining us here on the podcast and this is your first time listening or you haven't listened in a while, go back to the June 27th episode so you can listen to this whole series.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: And today's episode will make honestly a lot more sense if you go back and listen to some of those previous episodes over the last couple of weeks.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: So one of the things that we have emphasized in the writer's path is the importance of developing multiple streams of income for your writing business.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: And today I want to share three writers who are great examples of what we've been talking about in this series.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Each of these folks has a clear message for a specific audience.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: They use multiple platforms to share their content.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: They create content consistently, including having multiple books.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: They've been expanding their network for years and they've used their writing and their books as a basis for building multiple streams of income.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Now, if all that sounds complex and confusing, that's okay because I know a few years ago when I just got into all this kind of stuff like, you know, online writing and podcasting and thinking about building a writing business, all this felt very scary and intimidating to me.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And when I was around other people, like the three I'm going to share with you today, when I was around people like that or tried to analyze their platform and that kind of a thing, I felt very intimidated.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: And basically anytime that I was around somebody who was highly successful, I kind of felt like dirt.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: And it had nothing to do with them.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: It was just I was kind of starting from zero and they were going 100 miles an hour.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: And it's easy to feel that way whenever you see people who are doing a great job and they've been doing it for a while.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: But one of the reasons, or rather, one of the values of the writer's path of understanding the framework of how all this is put together is that you can see how somebody got to where they are and there's a clear laid-out pathway.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: It's not just because they were lucky or because they, you know, just did a couple things one day and all of a sudden, poof, they were really successful.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: No, they put specific things into place over a long period of time that resulted in phenomenal success.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: So, with that in mind, I want to share three people who are doing a great job or who have done a great job and are continuing to do a great job building a writing-based business.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Now, a little caveat before I dive into these three here.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Keep in mind that I don't know everything about their businesses.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: I know all three of these people personally.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: I would consider each of them a friend.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Um, in a couple cases, very good friends.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: And I've been following them for a long time, and I have tons of respect for them, but I don't know everything about their business and about their income streams.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Um there's no way I would know that because I'm not them.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: I'm not on the inside of their business.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: These are just my best guesses and my best estimates based on what I know about them and what I have personally observed and talked with each of them about.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: So, with that said, let's dive in.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Number one is Dan Miller, who I've talked about quite a bit on the podcast.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: I have immense respect for Dan Miller.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: He has had a huge impact on my life and my business and my way of thinking, as he has a lot of people.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: His website is 48days.com, and he has a companion website, which is 48daysegles.com.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: That is his membership site.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Dan's core message is helping people find or create work that they love.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: And another way that you might say this is the value of building a business with multiple income streams.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: That is definitely part of his overall message.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: But his message really is all about helping people find and create work that they love.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: His main two platforms that I have seen are his long-running 48 days podcast and also his email newsletter.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: He's been doing both of those a really long time.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: They're both phenomenal, they're great, and he's had a lot of success building up a large audience, specifically with those two things.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Now, as well as you know, live events, masterminds, conferences, all that kind of stuff.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: But the two things that have been in place for a really long time and that are like consistent on a on a weekly basis are the podcast and his email newsletter.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: His income streams, or at least the main ones that I can see, is that he has lots of books out there, number of great books.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: He has a membership community, which is 48 Days Eagles, which I'm a part of.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: He has at least one paid mastermind.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: He has online courses.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: He also sells disc profiles.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: He does live events and also, I'm sure, has affiliate income of various kinds.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: So those are a few things from Dan Miller, and he's done, as I said, a great job building up over the long term a business that's based around the core of his message and his writing.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Number two is my friend John Stongy.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Now, John is a pastor in Pennsylvania.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: He's been a pastor for his whole adult life, and John really does two main things.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: His primary website is desirejesus.com, and that is where he shares about faith and spirituality and the Bible.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: His second website is platformlaunchers.com, which is a blog and a podcast and a membership site devoted to helping people launch a platform.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Now, I'm also a member of John's Platform Launchers, and uh it's really, really a great tool.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: He uh created that, I think it was just last year.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: So it hasn't been in operation a super long time, but it's really successful and it's fantastic.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: So make sure and check both of those things out.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Now, John's core messages.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Now I'm I want to break down both of these because he has kind of two different things for desirejesus.com and for his books related to faith and spirituality.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: That message is simply all about practicing your faith and and getting into the Bible and finding out what God wants for our lives and basically desiring Jesus in your life, desiring to follow, uh follow and live in accordance with the principles that we see in the Bible and in Jesus' life.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Obviously, very much a Christian-focused message.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: I used to be a pastor, I'm a Christian, so I very much am in tune with all the things that John talks about.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Now, the core message of platform launchers is simply how to develop and grow your platform.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: John's main platforms is that he has several podcasts.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: One of them is a very successful daily audio bible podcast.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: He has several other shows as well, and he has email newsletters.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: John's income streams are varied.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: He has several podcasts and he has podcast sponsors also, which is cool.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: He has at least a couple dozen books out there.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: He has affiliate income, he has a membership community, speaking engagements, and other things as well.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Now, number three is Honore Quarter.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Her website is honorequarter.com, and the way you spell that is H-O-N-O-R-E-E-C-O-R-D-E-R dot com.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Honore's core message is simply the value of writing a book.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: In fact, one of her more recent books that came out a few years ago is called Simply You Must Write a Book.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: And what a great book title that is.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: The main platforms that Honore uses are a very successful email newsletter, which is one of the, by the way, one of the most valuable newsletters that I get.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: Like everyone is packed with super, super helpful stuff for writers.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Now, also, she is a frequent guest on other people's podcasts.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Honore does not have her own podcast, but instead, she has done a very smart thing and she is basically on everybody else's podcast.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: She's been on my show at least two or three times.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: She's a really great podcast guest.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: So the lesson there being that if you don't want to produce your own podcast, just be a guest on everybody else's.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: You'll save a lot of time, honestly, that way, because it takes a lot of time and effort to produce your own podcast, let me tell you.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: Now, Honore has a lot of different income streams.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: She has a mastermind called the Empire Builder's Mastermind, which I'm a part of.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: She has courses and I've been a part of several of her courses.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: She has dozens of books.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: She's co-authored lots of books.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Uh, she does coaching, she does speaking, books, she does book marketing services for clients, she has certifications, she collaborates with other authors, she has referral income, affiliate income, all those kinds of things.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: So Anore is a great person to learn from because she's not only a wonderful writer and author, she's also a genius business mastermind.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: And it has been so great to be a part of her Empire Builder's mastermind these last few months.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: I've learned a ton from her.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: And wow, she's just a genius at all this stuff.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: So I feel very blessed to not just learn from her, but also from John Stongy and Dan Miller and so many other people.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: But those are three that I wanted to point out.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: I encourage you to check out each of their uh each of their platforms and their websites, which I've mentioned, because you're gonna learn a lot just by looking at what they do and kind of reverse engineering the cool things that they're doing.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Now, again, these are only three examples.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: There are lots more that I can mention, but you get the picture.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: The main idea here is not to get overwhelmed by other people's successes and all the cool things they're doing.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: These three people have all been involved in their businesses for many years.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: I just want you to see what's possible when you stick with it and when you follow a prescribed pathway to success.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Now, here's today's question that I want to throw out here to you.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: And I've asked this question before, but I think it's worth repeating.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Do you believe amazing success is possible for you?
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Do you truly believe it?
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Because I believe it, I believe it for you.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: So if you don't quite have faith in yourself just yet, I want you to know that I believe in you.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: And I truly do believe that you are capable of far more than you could ever dream for yourself if you just are consistent and you follow this pathway that we've been talking about these last couple weeks.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: Now, in the next series, which we're probably not going to jump into right away, we may take a week or two break between these sort of mini-series, which are part of the larger thing.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, the next one is gonna be simply on milestone number one, which is clarifying a powerful message for a specific audience.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: I want to teach you how to get clear on your message, why you need a specific core message, and how to know who your specific audience is that you're writing and creating for.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: That's coming up in the next section of this overall uh series, the writer's path that we're talking about.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: So I hope this is helpful.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: I would love to hear from you about uh some things that you would love to learn related to this series.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: So you can always shoot me an email.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: My address is Kent at dailywriterlife.com.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: So I'd love to hear from you.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: And with that said, thanks so much for listening, and I will see you tomorrow.
