- 0:00We normally judge things based on our own individual egoistic
- 0:05standpoint, basically how a particular event or circumstance
- 0:10affects us in the moment. We build up expectations and
- 0:14plans, and suddenly something gets in the way and destroys or
- 0:19diverts those plans. We naturally become
- 0:23disappointed, potentially even angry, about what happened.
- 0:28With the benefit of hindsight, however, we may frequently find
- 0:32that what took place at that time actually was an enormous
- 0:35act of grace that helped us move into a direction that we
- 0:39otherwise would not have seen or would have actively avoided.
- 0:45There is the case of an individual who was poisoned and
- 0:49upon recovery he recognized that there was a divine existence in
- 0:53the world and he had been given back his life to serve that.
- 0:57He promptly gave up his career plans and set off to learn about
- 1:02and practice a spiritual discipline.
- 1:06There's the case of a man struck by lightning and pronounced
- 1:09clinically dead, who returned to life with a new focus and
- 1:13mission and switched from being a hired mercenary to someone who
- 1:18founded a Hospice care organization.
- 1:22Many such anecdotes can be reported to show that what
- 1:25appeared to be a tragedy was actually a positive turning
- 1:29point in someone's life. This is particularly true for
- 1:33those who take up and follow a spiritual path after some
- 1:37traumatic event that they had at the time considered to be a very
- 1:43unfortunate circumstance, the mother writes.
- 1:47Quote If you are in a state of conscious aspiration and very
- 1:53sincere, well, everything around you will be arranged in order to
- 1:59help in your aspiration, whether directly or indirectly.
- 2:04That is either to make you progress, put you in touch with
- 2:09something new, or to eliminate from your nature something that
- 2:14has to disappear. This is something quite
- 2:17remarkable. If you are truly in a state of
- 2:21intensity of aspiration, there is not a circumstance which does
- 2:26not come to help you to realize this aspiration.
- 2:30Everything comes, everything, as though there were a perfect and
- 2:35absolute consciousness organizing around you all
- 2:38things. And you yourself, in your outer
- 2:42ignorance, may not recognize it, and may protest at first against
- 2:47the circumstances as they show themselves, may complain, may
- 2:52try to change them. But after a while, when you have
- 2:57become wiser and there is a certain distance between you and
- 3:02the event, well, you will realize that it was just what
- 3:06you needed to do to make the necessary progress.
- 3:12And you know it is a will, a supreme goodwill which arranges
- 3:17all things around you. And even when you complain in
- 3:21protest instead of accepting, it is exactly at such moments that
- 3:27it acts most effectively. If you say to the divine with
- 3:34conviction, I want only you, the divine will arrange all the
- 3:40circumstances in such a way as to compel you to be sincere.
- 3:46Something in the being. I want only you, the aspiration.
- 3:52And then one wants 100 odd things all the time, isn't that
- 3:56so? At times something comes, just
- 4:00usually to disturb everything. It stands in the way and
- 4:04prevents you from realizing your aspiration.
- 4:08Well, the Divine will come without showing himself, without
- 4:12your seeing him, without your having any inkling of it, and He
- 4:17will arrange all the circumstances in such a way that
- 4:21everything that prevents you from belonging solely to the
- 4:24Divine will be removed from your path.
- 4:27Inevitably then, when all is removed, you begin to howl and
- 4:33complain. But later, if you are sincere
- 4:37and look at yourself straight in the eye, you have said to the
- 4:42Lord, you have said, I want only you.
- 4:46He will remain close to you, All the rest will go away.
- 4:52This is indeed a higher grace. Only you must say this with
- 4:58conviction. I don't even mean that you must
- 5:01say it integrally, because if one says it integrally, the work
- 5:06is done. What is necessary is that one
- 5:10part of the being. Indeed, the central will says it
- 5:14with conviction. I want only you even once, and
- 5:21it suffices. All that takes more or less
- 5:25long. Sometimes it stretches over
- 5:28years, but one reaches the goal. But one has all kinds of
- 5:35imperfections, eh? The more the imperfections, the
- 5:40longer it takes. The more the attachments one
- 5:44has, the longer it takes, but the goal is sure.
