- 0:04Thank you for listening to De Pictures Media Radio. You rat you readything to
- 0:31me? Oh well, jus well not a bad stop alone I just see
- 1:14sow supomasson stop alone? Is it tests? Welcome back, everybody. I
- 1:38want to introduce a friend of mine to Zeene Jamal, and let's read a
- 1:44little bit about what she has said about herself. I have been a SPA
- 1:49pro for over thirty years. I am a masterisician and award winning SPA biz
- 1:55coach. I started my own SPA biz at the age of twenty one,
- 2:04is still and still operate my own spot part time. I am an accomplished
- 2:13seven time book published author. I am regularly invited to write articles for the
- 2:22spot industry magazines. My passion is helping spot owners achieve more money for every
- 2:30hour that they work. During COVID, I was given an award for the
- 2:37work I did to support the industry and have been featured in a variety of
- 2:45podcasts and of course she's on this podcast now, including skin inc Associated skincare
- 2:55professionals and I have been an ambassador for ted X and her city of Port
- 3:06Moody for three years and an influencer with the ACE ASCP. Currently she Currently
- 3:19Tzim is working on her own publish, publishing her own book, a SPA
- 3:27anthology featuring assicians and SPA professionals around the globe, and the hope that she
- 3:39can actually touch other people's lives and help improve their SPA owning experience. So
- 3:47when we welcome to Zeem to the show and let's hear more about her story,
- 4:25Welcome to the show. To Zeem. You've been in the spot industry
- 4:29for like, I don't know, forever, almost forty years. It's the
- 4:35only career that I've ever had. Yeah, and I do want to say
- 4:41this because I have received some spot treatments from you personally that I don't know
- 4:49too many people who are better at it than you. They have actually they
- 4:55have actually touched me. So I got the crazy nervous system thing going on.
- 5:00So you toucht me the wrong thing and it's and you were always very
- 5:05gentle and I say, just a warm energy. So that's so for anybody
- 5:15listening who's looked. They lives in the Lower Mainland, Lower Mainland of British
- 5:21Columbia. Pert Moody look for t Zine Jamal and I don't remember the name
- 5:30of your spa though I'm sorry, that's okay. It's called Skindultance Spot.
- 5:33Yeah, it's a very very it's a tiny little boutique skin studio now that
- 5:38I work very, very part time at. But it's I'm super passionate about,
- 5:43you know, that side of the business, and so I keep my
- 5:46finger in the pie even almost of the time. Now I'm spending my time
- 5:49coaching other SPA owners to build their business strong like I've had the great fortune
- 5:54to be able to build beautifully. So yeah, it's it's it's awesome.
- 5:58I love what I do and I love the client interaction. I love the
- 6:01communication, the conversations, the results so I can give my clients. But
- 6:04really it's you know, our industry is so much about relationship building, and
- 6:10when you can build a great relationship and you can be mindful of a client's
- 6:14needs no matter what they are, and cater to them to the best of
- 6:18the best of your ability, I think it creates beautiful environment for your clients
- 6:23to feel so welcomed and feel at ease because it's not I mean, it's
- 6:27never easy to come in and you know, maybe you're having having a manicure,
- 6:31pedicure or haircut is different. But when you're you know, basically lying
- 6:35on the bed and having a treatment, whether it's a waxing or a facial,
- 6:39you know that there is a level of intimacy that you really have to
- 6:42be a total professional when you are dealing with your clients, male or female.
- 6:46Right, So, yeah, it's it's an amazing industry. I love
- 6:49it and I'm super passionate about It's the only thing I've ever done. And
- 6:53now I'm basically taking my forty years of experience and teaching others and supporting and
- 6:58coaching others from what I've learned, and you know, a lot of great
- 7:01success, but I've also had, you know, downfalls. I've also made
- 7:04mistakes, and so to be able to teach other people to avoid some of
- 7:10those eras is a really great thing. Right. So yeah, thank you
- 7:14for having me miked. I'm really happy to be here. So let's roll
- 7:15the clock back. I think it's thirty eight years yep, is that right?
- 7:21So how did you ask you exactly? How did you get started?
- 7:26Well, you know, it started like way further back than that. My
- 7:29mom's sister, who was actually one of my favorite aunts. She was like
- 7:31a second mom. To me. She always used to say to me.
- 7:34She lived in Belgium when I lived in the UK, and we would go
- 7:38and visit her, and I would she'd often have headaches, and so I
- 7:42get her to sit down on a chair and put her head on a pillow
- 7:44and I would massage her shoulders. And she said to me one day,
- 7:46she said, you know what, honey, you have such magic energy in
- 7:49your hands. I would love to see you do something with that when you
- 7:55grow up. And this I was very young. I was maybe seven or
- 7:58eight, like very young, and so is something that really stuck in my
- 8:01head. And I really was like, wow, okay, that was pretty
- 8:05incredible. And you know, she's no longer with us. She was an
- 8:07amazing influence in my life, as I've been my parents. But I started
- 8:13going as she started in the fashion world, and I actually did fashion design,
- 8:16which I liked but didn't feel like it was my calling. And then
- 8:22I progressed from there to do makeup artistry, and then from makeup artistry I
- 8:26ended up doing aesthetics, and esthetics is where I stuck and I absolutely loved
- 8:31it. You know, I've done extensive training in all areas of the industry,
- 8:35but it has been my passion to really focus on skincare, natural non
- 8:39invasive skincare treatment. So that's really what I provide. And even when I
- 8:45had my business, I often would get phone calls from other spot owners around
- 8:50the city that would say, you know, I've heard about you. I
- 8:52hear about the success that you've had. I'm wondering if you can help me.
- 8:56And so I've been kind of coaching on and off for probably fifteen or
- 8:58eighteen years, but ten years ago is when I decided it was time for
- 9:03me to share my passion and my knowledge with SPA owners in an official capacity.
- 9:09And so that's when I formed my business and started doing workshops and trainings
- 9:15and then created a couple of different memberships for SPA owners. And my primary
- 9:20client is very definitely a higher level solo practitioner or an esthetician that maybe has
- 9:28you know, three or four estheticians working for her or for them, and
- 9:31so that's my audience, that's the client that I cater to. I have
- 9:37been approached by larger spas to work with them, like you know what I
- 9:41would call corporate spas, but that's really not my passion, Like I think,
- 9:45for me it's about helping the small esthetician to grow their business, and
- 9:48there's so many great ways that they can do that. So being able to
- 9:52have access to somebody like myself who's been there, done that, right.
- 9:56I started out solo, took on a staff member, rotated into building a
- 10:01physical bricks and mortar business for the second time, had nine estheticians on board
- 10:07at one point in my career, and then I went backwards, you know,
- 10:11basically downsized everything and when a solo again. So I've kind of done
- 10:16the whole circle. So I really do understand probably any level that any esthetician
- 10:22is at in their career, whatever stress and challenges, I've quite likely probably
- 10:26experienced them as well. So yeah, it's a really cool place to be
- 10:30and I'm really passionate about helping SPALL owners. And my area of expertise for
- 10:35sure is retail sales, profitability, and creative outside the box what I call
- 10:41purple carpet marketing, so really helping them elevate their brand by using you know,
- 10:46quality care for their clients. I have a philosophy called purple Carpet Experience
- 10:52that is really about helping you build the relationship, because again, relationship is
- 10:58the new currency right today. So yeah, yeah, definitely, definitely.
- 11:01It is about building relationships in any business, right absolutely. I think when
- 11:09you have the privilege to make physical touch contact with a client, you know,
- 11:13that privilege I think is even more of a responsibility for us to make
- 11:16sure that we are honoring that relationship even even deeper, you know, for
- 11:20the client. Right, So agreed, And I have to say that you
- 11:26do a pretty good job of that. Yeah. It's really being aware.
- 11:31It's being aware of who you are, you know, what we look like,
- 11:35how people perceive us, but also then what we're doing in turn to
- 11:37allow the client to feel relaxed and feel welcomed in the space. Right.
- 11:43So yeah mm yeah. In having having been on should we say better table,
- 11:52I don't treatment, I comment the treatment, okab treatment, having been
- 12:01there and because on on the on the client and you're you're kind of vulnerable,
- 12:09right and that's exactly right. Yeah, yeah, And to have somebody
- 12:16with with with that, with that that kind energy, uh, come and
- 12:22touch you. And because I don't, I don't. There's there's some people
- 12:30out there they always want to flip things around on you. But but there
- 12:33is a lot of touch. The whole the whole process is you're touching uh,
- 12:39just about every inch of their face, their necks, their shoulders,
- 12:43their hands even sometimes right So, yeah, absolutely, like you have to
- 12:48be you have to be such a professional, but you have to be so
- 12:50in tune with your own energy as well as theirs, right. I mean
- 12:54I always tell my esthetician, you know, clients that you know, when
- 12:58you walk into make sure that you are not thinking about the last client.
- 13:01You're not thinking about what was going on at home. You have to let
- 13:05that go at the door, because you've got to give you one hundred and
- 13:07ten percent undebedded attention to the client and what they're needing right now. Right
- 13:11so, right now, they are they are the only thing you need to
- 13:15focus on when there, when they're in your treatment room. For sure,
- 13:18that's a good thing to teach people, you know, I do, That's
- 13:24definitely one of the things I talk about a lot is that they are they
- 13:26are they are, they are the number one thing that you should be focusing
- 13:30on in that moment, and they deserve that. They deserve one hundred percent
- 13:35of your attention in that moment, right So for sure. So with with
- 13:43that being so, you you you talked about retail and skincare. I want
- 13:48about dive into skincare a little bit because you've always had the clearest skin I've
- 13:54ever seen. Now go talk here, no failure is here. It's like,
- 14:03so what does your h what does your skincare regimen actually look like?
- 14:11And how do you decide how to build one for someone else? So I
- 14:16think you know, you do need to like if we're going backwards, like
- 14:20I obviously carry a skincare line, I'm not necessarily going to talk about that,
- 14:24but the most important thing as an aesthetician, if you're looking to build
- 14:30a skincare practice, you know, I think you need to decide who you
- 14:33want to cater to, right because there are many lines that have areas of
- 14:37specialty. Now, the line I carry is pretty extensive if they have something
- 14:41for almost every skin type, but their major focus is you know, preventative
- 14:48and anti aging skincare. That is what they are known for. And so
- 14:52it's so important to know who you are catering to. If you're in a
- 14:54university town, you can't be you know, bringing in a high end,
- 15:00you know, anti aging skincare line because your clients that are walking through the
- 15:03door quite likely to be teenagers or in their early twenties probably dealing with acne
- 15:07right or breakout, and so you know, focusing on that is a really
- 15:11big part of your business, knowing who you cater to or who you want
- 15:15to cater to, right, But the location you choose is also going to
- 15:18quite likely determine who you cater to because the community you are based in and
- 15:24who is surrounded in your community is who you're you're quite likely going to come
- 15:28through your doors, and so making sure that you've got that. But coming
- 15:33back to my own skincare routine, I am I've been you know. Yes,
- 15:37I'm a little bit obsessive. I'm one of those crazy estheticians. I
- 15:39need a suitcase just for my skincare product. When I'm traveling. My husband's
- 15:43like, do I I dare you? We're going away to next month And
- 15:48my husband's like, we're gone for four days? Can I dare you can
- 15:50get on on the plane with a carry on luggage? And I'm like yeah,
- 15:56I think, because okay, let's see how you fail. Right,
- 15:58So, because skin care is I would rather not have one extra pair of
- 16:03shoes or even extra clothing. But for me, my skincare is everything.
- 16:07Now I am a shoe girl, Let's not. I won't know. I'm
- 16:14like, all right now, one extra pair of shoes so you can have
- 16:19another part of your Skincare's saying something because I know how you are about shoes,
- 16:25because I am. I'm obsessed with shoes as well. A Melda Marco's
- 16:27here for sure, and I have like probably close to one hundred pairs of
- 16:30shoes. But for me, my skincare is everything, right SPF, you
- 16:36know, and like I were attended SPF every single day, you know.
- 16:38It cleansed my face twice a day. I use a serum, two different
- 16:41serums, one in the morning, one at night. I cream miss offt
- 16:45my face like a double cleansed. So you know, for me, like
- 16:48my skin care is a huge part of my self care, my self love,
- 16:53and it's my time, whether it's five or ten minutes, twice a
- 16:57day, I do really nor to my skin. I exfoliate my skin at
- 17:00least once or twice a week. I use a mask once or twice a
- 17:03week, you know. And I do appeal like at least once a month,
- 17:07if not more often than that, depending on the time of year that
- 17:11it is. So you know, I'm one of those crazy yes days that
- 17:14really does practice what they preach. And when you say to me, you
- 17:18know, how how do you determine or create a program for a client,
- 17:21It really starts with the consultation. When you are doing a great consultation,
- 17:26you can really understand where the client's needs are as well, because sometimes people
- 17:30they don't know any different. They'll go to a drug store, they go
- 17:32to a department store, maybe they even go to another repetition. And people
- 17:34have said to me, gosh, you know, I've been to spas and
- 17:37no one's ever asked me these kinds of questions. So I have a very
- 17:41customized consultation form that I've created and like tweaked over the years, and it's
- 17:48if someone's asking, I've had people saying, oh, you know, can
- 17:49I have access to that? Yes you can. I have a whole digital
- 17:52platform where you can purchase a lot of a lot of my tools right and
- 17:56my consultation sheet. I call it my Magic consultation Sheet because there are some
- 18:00seriously magical questions on there that gets the clients to say, oh my god,
- 18:03yes I want to hear more about what you what you have to offer.
- 18:07So understanding the client's needs is so crucial and asking the right questions so
- 18:12that you can get the right answers, but visually right doing a consultation,
- 18:17when you see the client and you're looking at their skin properly, you can
- 18:19get a very strong gauge on what's going on with them, and then in
- 18:23turn asking them the questions and then allowing yourself to, you know, offer
- 18:29your professional expertise on what you think is best for their skin and what their
- 18:33best protocols are for even a treatment when they come to see you in this
- 18:36ball, So does that answer all your questions? Actually? That that and
- 18:41it leads into because we want to talk about about your coaching program, because
- 18:48hey, you're anybody who actually knows you, anybody who goes to go to
- 18:55your website or anything that you're about is going to discover right away that you
- 19:00are about great skincare and you're about having the right energy around people so that
- 19:04they feel comfortable. They were going to find that out right away. But
- 19:07there's some other stuff that and you started talking about because I wanted to get
- 19:15deeper into you know what, what are some of the steps that you teach
- 19:21other spot owners and you started off with this consultation. It's like, how
- 19:25do you teach teach a new an esthetician to or a new spot owner to
- 19:33do a really good consultation, because let me tell you, there's some out
- 19:37there that they think they're asking deep questions, but they it's like by the
- 19:41time we get home, it's like, oh my god, that just burnt
- 19:42my skin, and it is. I mean, you know, I always
- 19:48say I remember one time I had a client who came into the spa and
- 19:52it was the middle of summer, and she wanted to have appeal and she
- 19:56said to me, I want to book it. And I looked at her
- 19:57and I said, I can't and all good faith as a professional, do
- 20:02this treatment for you. And she was really annoyed, like she was just
- 20:06like, what do you mean you can't do it for me? And I
- 20:07said, I can't remember her name, but let's just say Leanne was her
- 20:10name. I said, you know, I can't do it for you because
- 20:14I would not be doing you a good service by allowing you to treat this
- 20:19treatment today because it's not the right time of the year. It's boiling hot
- 20:23outside, the sun is beaming down. You've never been in to seeing me
- 20:26before and you want to have a peal. No, I can't do that,
- 20:32And the reason for that is because I need to prep your skin first.
- 20:36You know, if you're using soap and water or you know, off
- 20:38the shelf products, they are not pH balanced to give you the results that
- 20:45you want that you think you're going to get from something like doing appeal.
- 20:48So I always have to back it up. And that day she left and
- 20:52she was annoyed, but I have to tell you. She called me back
- 20:53about two weeks later and she said to me, you know, I have
- 20:56a lot of respect for you for not doing the treatment for me, because
- 21:00I realized pretty quick after I left, even though I was annoyed, that
- 21:04you really did care about me, even though you didn't know me and you
- 21:08didn't want my money. And I said, no, I'm not in it
- 21:11for a short term gain. And that's a piece of advice I would give
- 21:14to anybody listening to this. No matter what area of this industry you work
- 21:18in, don't be in it for the short term game. You're almost better
- 21:22off saying no to the client and giving you legitimate reasons why, because you
- 21:26will. She came back. She came back a couple months later and she
- 21:30booked a treatment with us, and so we were able to help her create
- 21:36the results she wanted versus me doing a one off treatment for her having never
- 21:40prepped her skin, not knowing what she's using. But asking those questions is
- 21:44so critical for your success and for theirs. But it protects you as a
- 21:48professional, and it protects your reputation when you do ask those questions. And
- 21:53so I know a lot of skincare lines, including the one that I carry,
- 21:57has their own consultation for or sheets. But I say to anybody who's
- 22:03listening to this, I will tell you, hands down, I have seen
- 22:07so many different consultation sheets, but the questions that are on this one page
- 22:12consultation sheet that I've created is so powerful. Not only would it allow you
- 22:18to create a space as the professional to talk about home care products for your
- 22:22clients, but it will allow the clients to feel really confident in who you
- 22:29are as a professional. And so it's very very simple. I will say
- 22:33to people, just use whatever other consultations sheets that you may already have,
- 22:40use this as a supplemental consultation sheet. And it's only one page. I've
- 22:45seen like four and five page consolet sheets that are so overwhelming the client is
- 22:48like, oh my god, So if you use this one sheet and that's
- 22:52pretty much all I use. I don't even use the one that my skincare
- 22:56line carries. I used to use it, but now I just use one
- 23:00I got And I feel like I never there's not a hole or a gap
- 23:03in anything that I'm asking the questions for my clients because I get the results
- 23:07every single time. People come the first time and they're like, Wow,
- 23:11my skin has never felt this amazing after a single treatment. So it really
- 23:18is about getting to know your clients, but sometimes asking the hard questions,
- 23:22right, like what are they using at home? Like that's something I've been
- 23:27into spas and people haven't asked me that. They're like Jesus, the moisturizer,
- 23:30yes, I do. Well, now how about if you take it
- 23:33to the next level and say what kind of moistrozer, what skin came brand
- 23:36are you using? Okay, So that leads me to another question, because
- 23:42where do you use the which moisturizer or where do you use it? Right,
- 23:49because like personally it's like from the chin up. I'd even I say
- 24:00from the deck called take oh Okay, you're you're you're kind of getting from
- 24:08from this up. I don't use any kind of chemical product, just water,
- 24:15maybe occasional sea salt or Himalayan salt to exfoliate, but because because I
- 24:25do have the shave, there's an exfoliation level right there, Yeah, exactly.
- 24:29Yeah, And I don't use a lot of moist striders because next thing
- 24:33I know, I wake up the next morning and I got like welps all
- 24:37over my face. Right yeah, yeah, I do kind of live by
- 24:41my face. Of course you do, but I think it again, it
- 24:48depends, And this is where you need to have this conversation with client,
- 24:52right, you need to know what their concerns are, what kinds of reactions
- 24:56have they had, Have they had treatments in other spas, and if so,
- 24:59what kind of experience was it for them? So again that all you
- 25:03know comes back to the consultation. You start with that, right, and
- 25:07when you can find out again, you know, you as a professional are
- 25:10going to recommend products obviously, but sometimes you've got to work with the clients.
- 25:15Someone's like, you know what I'm I don't want to use, you
- 25:17know, a foamy cleanser. As an example, I want a creamy cleanser.
- 25:19Well it's not the right thing for her skin or for their skin.
- 25:22But you've got to work with them. You either have to teach them why
- 25:26they need to do it differently. But even then sometimes we're not going to
- 25:30win, right, So you've got to work with the client and you need
- 25:33to slowly introduce products to them. Right. I had clients that have said
- 25:38I don't think I want to do anything today, and I'm like, Okay,
- 25:41that's that's fine. I respect that. However, this is if you
- 25:45were going to take one or two things, this is what I would recommend.
- 25:48And then people are like, okay, but like tell me why.
- 25:51So you know, sometimes it's it's we're not in the game of convincing.
- 25:53I will say that right off the bat. We're not in the game of
- 25:56convincing. We are only here to provide the best opportunity for our clients to
- 26:00get results at home. Yeah, selling isn't convincing people. Selling is offering
- 26:07them the opportunity and make the decision to say yes or no. Yeah,
- 26:15absolutely, absolutely so. Yeah, it really is important to be mindful of
- 26:21how we sell. And I have a tip for those that are here.
- 26:26If you ever feel like, oh my god, selling is a four letter
- 26:29word, which I actually have a program it's called sell is not a four
- 26:32letter word. People feel very much a personal rejection when a client says no.
- 26:40And I want you to remember the acronym q tip as in what we
- 26:45used to clean our ears. Quit taking it personally. That's what q tip
- 26:49stands for. They're not saying no to you. If you go into a
- 26:52restaurant and the waitress says, oh, we have this on special and I
- 26:56don't buy it or I choose not to order that, she's not going to
- 26:59be dead stated. She's not going to be offended by my choices. So
- 27:03we too have to not be offended by the client's choices. If they say
- 27:07no, we have to respect that. If they say yes, then excellent,
- 27:11right. But we're there just to offer our recommendations as professionals and really
- 27:18help the clients decide that that maybe isn't the best choice. This might be
- 27:22a better choice. Yeah, that's all right. So you're also teaching people
- 27:27to teaching your students to build a better customer experience. Definitely. I developed
- 27:37a philosophy. I guess it's like a framework called the Purple carpet experience.
- 27:44Now, we're all very familiar with the red carpet experience, right, and
- 27:48red carpet is fabulous, but you know, I mean, for me,
- 27:51the red carpet is what I call flash in the pan experience. Right.
- 27:55It's usually like people will say, I had by fifteen minutes of fame,
- 27:57right, Like, when you think of carpet, you think, oh my
- 28:00gosh, e this was amazing, but it's very often not long lasting.
- 28:04For me, the purple carpet experience is about connecting with the other human that
- 28:10you're standing in front of at a belly to belly level, because when we
- 28:14connect as humans, there is a deeper connection that is made versus being on
- 28:18a stage, you know, being like maybe you see a celebrity, it's
- 28:22a whole other experience. I want to see the client again. So the
- 28:26purple carpet experience is about building the foundation of a strong relationship and building a
- 28:32KLT factor, which is the no like and trust factor. So that really
- 28:37is what all encompassing the purple carpet experience is all about. Is about creating
- 28:42a wow experience for the clients that leaves them feeling holy moly. That was
- 28:48like the best treatment I've ever had, and at that point, price becomes
- 28:52irrelevant because they've had such a great experience. With that being said, you
- 29:00aren't you kind of starting with an emotional level one hundred percent? So I
- 29:08wrote an article last year for an industry magazine called using the five Love Languages
- 29:15in your spa business, And we really need to tap into those things because
- 29:22some people are very much driven by words of reformation. For some people,
- 29:27it's you know, gifts, and I'm not saying you've got to give things
- 29:30away, but you can do tiny little things in your business to make the
- 29:34client feel like they actually got something from you, whether it's a nail file
- 29:38or lip bomb, or a mini handstream or a packet of bath salts.
- 29:42Like, there's so many small things that we can do to leave a memorable
- 29:48impact on the client after they've left your spa right right, So, yes,
- 29:55it does start with emotions. Always, It always starts with the emotionals,
- 29:56because if the client is not em connected to the conversation and what you're
- 30:02doing, because they're not comfortable because they feel anxiety, or they feel uncomfortable
- 30:07because you haven't made them feel welcome fully, or maybe they're like, oh
- 30:11my god, she didn't tell me what to do. Like that's the other
- 30:12thing I find so many aestheticians, sadly, even a Sari stapers, they
- 30:15don't tell you what to do. If you walk into a room and there's
- 30:18a bed setup and you've never been in to see them or see anybody who
- 30:22to have this treatment before. How about if you ask the client that have
- 30:26you ever had this type of experience before? And just so that you know
- 30:32when you come into the treatment roo, I'm going to walk you in.
- 30:34This is the bathroom I want you to put on, and this is how
- 30:37you put it on. And I know that sounds super elementary, but I've
- 30:41walked in back into my studio and the client is laying on the bed with
- 30:45the wrap around her neck versus around her armpits underneath her armpits, and she
- 30:53I was so embarrassed because this is very very early in my career, because
- 30:56again, nobody had taught me this. I started thinking, oh my god,
- 31:00Like I was embarrassed for her, but I was embarrassed for myself because
- 31:03I didn't I didn't know at that point in my career that I should have
- 31:06sent that to the client. So even saving the client embarrassment of making such
- 31:12an error. I mean, we giggled about it, but I mean there
- 31:17was a there were moments of me feeling uncomfortable because I didn't do what I
- 31:21was supposed to do as a professional to guide them through the process, right,
- 31:26And that's something else that we have to do, and that is all
- 31:30part of the Purple Carpet experience is really allowing the client to feel confident at
- 31:34every level of the stage of the treatment protocol, you know, and that
- 31:41all makes really good sense. Yeah, Yeah, because if you're not feeling
- 31:48comfortable, how do you expect the person you're serving. Our energy is literally
- 32:00we're giving that energy. When we make contact with the client and we touch
- 32:06them, we are transferring our energy to them. So if you are stressed,
- 32:10if you are angry, if you are upset, if you are tired,
- 32:15you're transferring that energy to them. Yeah. I'm a big believer of
- 32:20crystals and clearing your treatment room after every client, and that's something that I
- 32:27do, all right. I mean, I'm not saying you have to sage
- 32:29your room, but I'm very intentional. If you do have like fresh area
- 32:32of a window, or have you have like a fan of some sorts.
- 32:36Just blowing air through the treatment room and like really just clearing the space with
- 32:42crystals is a great way just to shift the energy. Because maybe the client
- 32:45is coming in to see you and she's super stressed out. The last thing
- 32:50she needs is for you to be stressed out. She's there to unload what
- 32:53she's feeling, so that when she leaves, she's leaving all this negative,
- 32:58negative or heavy energy in your space because she was there to relax. And
- 33:02so we really do need to make sure that we are clearing our treatment rooms
- 33:07properly and therefore allow not allowing the next client to feel any of that energy.
- 33:15Yeah, that makes that again, makes sense. Yeah, you want
- 33:21to at least blow the energy that all the other previous energy away and refresh
- 33:27it exactly, Yeah, exactly, so it feels optimum and a healthy,
- 33:31happy environment for the clients to walk into, right, Yeah, because you're
- 33:37a strong believer in it. We're all energetic beings, yeap. And the
- 33:43power of touch is one of the most powerful you know, too many emotions
- 33:47and physical things that we can do for our clients, and therefore we do
- 33:52need to be very very conscientious about our own thoughts when we are going into
- 33:57a treatment room. Yeah, yeah, for sure, mm hmm yeah,
- 34:05because I remember your your treatment room. It's still it's still you know,
- 34:08it's been a while, but it's still buzzes in my head. It's like,
- 34:13oh yeah, I remember that. And then I've gone to other places
- 34:15and I'm like, this wasn't it seems no. A lot of time.
- 34:22I think a lot of times people want to make their space look clinical,
- 34:25and I provide clinical treatments with results, but at the end of the day,
- 34:30it's still an experience for the client, right, Like, how are
- 34:35you making amazing for the client? Like I have like purple fluffy blankets,
- 34:39I have, you know, I have I have the carpet on the floor
- 34:44underneath my treatment bed. I have you know, like warm lighting. I
- 34:47have this beautiful crystal chandelier that sits above my treatment bed that when a client
- 34:52is laying there, that's what they're looking at. Right, So it's people
- 34:57are also very tactile, again using the emotion, but using the senses.
- 35:00How are you using all the senses in your that we that we have as
- 35:05humans? Right, there's five senses. How are you using all of those
- 35:08in your spa. Yeah, to again amplify the whole purple carpet experience for
- 35:15the client. Yeah, yeah, I like to. I like the purple
- 35:21carpet because the the purple carpet, the regalness stays, the starfacker flashes out
- 35:30absolutely well, because purple, you know, represents royalty, but it also
- 35:35represents loyalty. Right, It's a very deep spiritual color as well. So
- 35:39I think I'm using the purple. I've always had purple in my business and
- 35:44I've continued it into my coaching practice because it's my signature color. You're sitting
- 35:50in a purple chair, I'm sing God, not my husband. For Chris
- 35:59maybe for those of you who are listening to the audio only version of this
- 36:05podcast. Right, it's a Tizzy is sitting in a purple chair, and
- 36:10she's got a purple pillow and her uh leopard print. Uh is it dressed
- 36:19for a top? It's a top. It's a top has a lavender and
- 36:24purple flecked through it. Yep. And then my hand purple and your glasses
- 36:32and everything, and you have a wonderful shade of lavender lip gloss. I
- 36:39do. Yes, Purple is definitely my color in fact, I've had three
- 36:45people in the last couple of weeks send me a link. There is a
- 36:50store in Seattle called the Purple Store. And I've been to Seattle so many
- 36:53times i didn't even know there was a purple store there. So I'm gonna
- 36:55have to My husband and I talked about them, We're gonna have to get
- 36:59down there one of these kends and just go and explore the Purple Store.
- 37:02It would be super clothing and everything. Everything everything in there is purple.
- 37:09It's quite wild. So when one of your students learns and actually puts your
- 37:20your purple experience into action, what should the client on the other end feel
- 37:29or what are they going to walk away with. Sometimes I've had people say
- 37:32to me, I can't put my finger on it, but that was the
- 37:36best experence I've ever had, And I think it leaves the client feeling so
- 37:42relaxed. I think it increases the trust level. It increases the chance of
- 37:50the client rebooking, because you set such an incredible tone as a professional that
- 38:00you want the client to come back. You're creating an inviting environment for them,
- 38:04and so I think that all of those things when a client is a
- 38:07great experience. You know, they're quite likely to write an incredible review for
- 38:10you. They're going to tell their friends about you. They're going to share
- 38:15about their experience verbally with their inner circle. They're going to be like,
- 38:21oh my god, my skin looks fantastic. I mean it could. I
- 38:23mean, I'm saying skin because that's what I do, but it could be
- 38:27like, oh my god, my eyebrows look fabulous, my hair looks amazing.
- 38:30You know, your nails look great. There's no matter what area of
- 38:32the industry you provide a service in, you can leave the client feeling so
- 38:39incredible. I've had people say to me to zem, i feel like you've
- 38:43got two sets of hands. When I'm misogic, I've had people say to
- 38:45me, it feels like you've got two sets of hands. But people have
- 38:47also said your energy, your hands are so warm. But that was the
- 38:52best experience that I've ever had. I mean, I have clients that are
- 38:57most of my clients are very affluent, and you know, they travel a
- 38:59lot, and they said, you know, we travel all over the world,
- 39:02but I'm always thrilled to come back here. Even though they had beautiful,
- 39:07you know, chandeliers and big big spaces. Your space is cozy,
- 39:10but it is I feel like I'm the only person that exists when I'm here,
- 39:15and that's how we want the clients to feel. We never want a
- 39:17client to feel rushed. We never want to have them feel pressured, you
- 39:22know, Like it's not about that, right, Like, yes, as
- 39:27a business owner, really the best way to grow your business is to add
- 39:30retail sales. And you and I've talked about this even in previous conversations.
- 39:34Retail sales is the foundation to your business, right, but there is a
- 39:37methodology in how you do it, and it never needs to happen at the
- 39:43front desk at the end of a treatment because you've already lost them at that
- 39:45point. So that's what I teach people in my coaching practice in various levels.
- 39:51So I have a small group coaching program which is very intimate. So
- 39:57the girls that are in the group are getting a lot of my attention.
- 40:00You know, we have a private Facebook group. They get you know,
- 40:04done for them, seasonal monthly marketing content. Email marketing is already done for
- 40:09them, so they just have to cut and paste and edit, you know,
- 40:13maybe add whatever. So for example, this month is the month of
- 40:15May is melanoma month, right, and so it's really important to be talking
- 40:20about the protection of your skin using SPF, the different types of SPF,
- 40:23you know, is there really a difference. So I write a lot of
- 40:25articles that the girls can use in their marketing and then they just have to
- 40:30talk about their products and you know, they can add that in and just
- 40:32say, you know, we at x y Z SPA have you know,
- 40:37a variety of different options for what you need. And so a lot of
- 40:40that marketing stuff is where a lot of seditions struggle. So I do all
- 40:44of that for them. So when you join my small group coaching program,
- 40:47you can access all of that content. Plus we get to do this like
- 40:51what we're doing right now. We do twice a month. I do at
- 40:53least sixty to ninety minutes each time the girls will come on. We get
- 40:58to you know, do a coach, actual life coaching session and then everything
- 41:00is recorded. So yeah, so that's my main program and I'm super excited.
- 41:05I'm I'm just embarking on a new journey personally. I've been published in
- 41:09seven books and now I am embarking thank you, yes, And now I'm
- 41:15embarking on creating my own book project. So I'm working on a book project
- 41:20right now, and it's actually the first of its kind. I'm creating a
- 41:24spa anthology. So if you are a spa or beauty professional anywhere in North
- 41:30America or even globally, you can't participate in this book. And it's a
- 41:34really it's a it's going to be such a fun process. I'm so excited
- 41:37about it. And yeah, hopefully the book will be up by the end
- 41:40of the year. So yeah, very excited. Is there a link that
- 41:45I should be sharing with people? I can? Yeah, I can send
- 41:50you. I can maybe I can forward you a link to We actually have
- 41:52a Facebook pop up group that I've created for that, or they can send
- 41:57me a private message on on on on Facebook for sure, or even Instagram.
- 42:01Either way, it doesn't matter. But yeah, I'm happy to do
- 42:04that. So we have a we have a group right now, so those
- 42:07that are interested in in participating can certainly come in and check out the information
- 42:10about the book. And then just by the end of this month that she's
- 42:15going to be starting to scale people out. That are those those that are
- 42:19interested and have signed up will stay and then we'll work through all the different
- 42:22things. Between now and probably end of September, everything will be due for
- 42:29submission before it goes for the last proofing. So yeah, it's a it's
- 42:31a long process for sure, but it's a very exciting process. Absolutely.
- 42:37Yeah awesome. So yeah, you you it. I'm going to make a
- 42:44comparison here. You're not actually franchising yourself. You're doing one better is you're
- 42:50allowing people to see behind the scenes of how you're your process works, you're
- 42:58and you're allowing them to have access to it with all the pre printed or
- 43:05pre done yeah stuff, the same as they would to franchise. But I
- 43:12bit you the fees are a lot less than actually bad, a lot less,
- 43:15absolutely for sure. And I love it because I really want to work
- 43:20with a very select group of estheticians. I don't want to have a group
- 43:23of you know, fifty or one hundred estheticians or more. My group is
- 43:27very small, right, and so there really is a lot of you know,
- 43:30time for you guys to have access to me. And that's really my
- 43:34that's that's that's that's something I'm passionate about, is helping the people that really
- 43:38want to work with me. And yeah, you can buy my you know
- 43:43my content. Of course, you can buy my tools. I've got lots
- 43:45of downloads. I've got all kinds of master classes that I've done over the
- 43:49years, and so you can access all of that stuff through my digital platform,
- 43:52which I will also send you a link for if anybody's interested in that.
- 43:55But yeah, it's the coaching program, right, That's that's my real
- 43:59passion. And then currently, of course, the book project is actually that's
- 44:04been a probably ten plus year dream that I've had to come together, and
- 44:10I'm so thrilled to finally be doing it. It's we started it pre see
- 44:15pre covid, and then we had to kibast everything because everything came to a
- 44:20full stop. And so it's taken me a few years to find the energy
- 44:23because it's a long term project. It's going to take most of this year
- 44:27to put it together, right, and so but this year just felt like
- 44:30the right year to do it, and I'm so thrilled to be doing it.
- 44:34We've already the book is starting to fill up already. We've got quite
- 44:37a few aestheticians that have already committed and have joined. And it's so exciting
- 44:39to see because it's such a diversity so many people. You know, I'm
- 44:44based in Canada like you are, Michael, but most of my coaching clients
- 44:49are actually in the US, and I've got clients that are in Europe and
- 44:52in the Caribbean, and so it's, you know, the power of the
- 44:57Internet, the power of you know, social media. You know, you
- 44:59can grow a business today, especially at the level that you and I work
- 45:04at, that we can grow a global against right. And that's the thing,
- 45:07Like, you know, the reason I'm doing the book. I I
- 45:08A lot of people say, well, why why do you want to do
- 45:09the book? You've already been published. But for me, it's my passion
- 45:14in doing this project is to help highlight all these amazing estheticians and what they're
- 45:19doing. Right. Sometimes you're in a really big city and you're a small
- 45:22esthetician and you just get lost in the shuffle, or you're in a small
- 45:25town and nobody would even has even heard of that little town. And so
- 45:30for me, participating in this book is a great way to showcase who you
- 45:34are and showcase each one of these amazing aestheticians at a global level. So
- 45:37I'm really really excited about it. It will be a printed book available on
- 45:42Amazon, and so you know that's that's pretty big, Like that's the third
- 45:45largest you know, search portal in the world is Amazon. So I am
- 45:51super, super thrilled and very honored to be working with these amazing women.
- 45:54And I say women because right now there's only women in the book. You
- 45:58know, there's there's a handful of less editions that are in my industry,
- 46:00but they haven't quite committed yet. So right now I have all the women
- 46:04that are in there, and I'm super honored to be working with them.
- 46:07But yeah, the book is the book is open and available, and you're
- 46:09very welcome. Anybody who might be hearing this, even up to like July,
- 46:14you can certainly, you know, join the book at that point,
- 46:15even at that point. So yeah, I'm I'm just thrilled. I'm so
- 46:20excited to be doing this. So yeah, it's a real it's a real
- 46:22threat. It sounds really exciting, and there's going to be links to all
- 46:28this in the liner notes, especially back to your coaching system. That's probably
- 46:32the best way to actually figure all this out with you is to go through
- 46:37your coaching system. So yeah, well we'll make sure we put the links
- 46:42to your coaching system in place. Awesome. And for everybody who's in the
- 46:49spot industry and you're listening to this today, it's like you really do need
- 46:54to make sure you've worked with her because to seem she she just has magic
- 47:01in her energy and she can actually help you develop your magic so that you
- 47:07put that that type of energy, it becomes yours. That purple carpet becomes
- 47:13your purple carpet, not just to Zeem's purple carpet. So thanks for joining
- 47:19us to Zeem. Yeah, thank you for having me. It's great to
- 47:22see you. Thanks for connecting. And yeah, and thank you everybody for
- 47:29listening. And if you're a spot owner, click on the on the links
- 47:35in the liner notes and work with the Zeem and watch your business just explode
