- 0:00Spiritual seekers have differing affinities and capacities from
- 0:04which they begin their conscious spiritual focus.
- 0:08Some of them take up the seeking for the self, the Jivatman, with
- 0:12liberation from the illusion of the external world and its
- 0:15temptations. As a primary objective.
- 0:19They practice Nyana Yoga, the Yoga of knowledge, and the path
- 0:24can be austere as they tend to not want to be actively involved
- 0:30in the usual occupations of society.
- 0:33They seek the divine and tend to follow the path of the
- 0:37renunciate or ascetic. Srioro Binda describes this in
- 0:41The Life Divine when he delves into what he calls the refusal
- 0:45of the ascetic. He also devotes an entire
- 0:48section of the synthesis of Yoga to the practices of the Yoga of
- 0:53Knowledge. There are also seekers who begin
- 0:57with the upwelling of a deep sense of devotion, consecration,
- 1:02bhakti, the way of love. This path is described in detail
- 1:07by Sri Aurobindo in the section of the synthesis of Yoga called
- 1:12the Yoga of Love. Each of these paths takes up one
- 1:17of the natural starting points for an individual who has moved
- 1:20to devote himself to the spiritual life.
- 1:24Each can attain the objective of union with the Divine as the
- 1:29Self above and distant from the individual life, as well as the
- 1:34psychic being guiding and developing from within the
- 1:38manifestation and participating in that way in the individual
- 1:44life, are both focused on conscious union with the Divine
- 1:49in the one aspect or the other. Sri Robindo mentions the issue
- 1:55which we have ourselves seen on several occasions of individuals
- 1:59who have a deep or intense spiritual experience or even a
- 2:04major change in their understanding and perspective
- 2:07based on spiritual experience, and then allow the vital ego to
- 2:11more or less hijack the realization through the sense of
- 2:15superiority or uniqueness. In some cases, the individual
- 2:21may believe he is the Divine without the corresponding
- 2:25recognition of the Divine imminent in all beings.
- 2:29Or they may believe they are an incarnation of a great spiritual
- 2:34teacher of the past or divinely moved to lead others on the
- 2:38spiritual path without a recognition of the Divine
- 2:41presence active in others. In some cases, an individual
- 2:46believes he has a special role to play and act as gatekeeper to
- 2:50an individual with a transformative divine
- 2:53experience, as Srioro Bindo briefly notes in the case of
- 2:57Ramakrishna and Hrudaya. Here Srioro Bindo observes quote
- 3:05The phrase central being in our yoga is usually applied to the
- 3:09portion of the divine in us which supports all the rest and
- 3:12survives through death and birth.
- 3:15This central being has 2 forms Above it is Jeevatman, our true
- 3:21being of which we become aware when the higher self knowledge
- 3:25comes below. It is the psychic being which
- 3:30stands behind mind, body and life.
- 3:34The Jeevatman is above the manifestation in life and
- 3:37presides over it. The psychic being stands behind
- 3:41the manifestation in life and supports it.
- 3:45The natural attitude of the psychic being is to feel itself
- 3:48as the Child, the Son of God, the bhakta.
- 3:52It is a portion of the Divine one in essence.
- 3:56But in the dynamics of the manifestation there is always,
- 3:59even in identity, a difference. The Jivatman, On the contrary,
- 4:05lives in the essence and can merge itself in identity with
- 4:09the divine. But it too, the moment it
- 4:13presides over the dynamics of the manifestation, knows itself
- 4:18as one centre of the multiple Divine, not as the Parameshwara.
- 4:23It is important to remember the distinction, for otherwise, if
- 4:28there is the least vital egoism, one may begin to think of
- 4:32oneself as an avatar or lose balance like Hrudaya with
- 4:37Ramakrishna. End Quote Reference Sri
