He was back on TV this morning, so maybe he got a little bit

Plus did you happen to see the President's interview with George Stephanopolis Friday night

3:29
during their regular meeting and they were asked to name someone to lead the board
3:32
as in being president of the board, and they chose Rick Cavner, longtime
3:36
member of the board, and he joins us now in the par of Marstore
3:38
studio. Richard, good morning, welcome to the show Mourning. David.
3:42
You congratulations, I think I think yeah, sure, No, it's great.
3:46
I'm excited. I know you are. I know you are. But
3:49
anytime you're your time. I mean you've been how long have you been on
3:52
the board. I mean you just got reelective, but how long you been?
3:53
Was elected third term SOS my eighth year. Okay, yeah, so
3:58
so how does it, I mean, explain the process of becoming the president
4:01
of the board, how exactly does that? So it is a that they
4:04
all go not me, not me, not it, not it, no,
4:08
no, no, I mean every two years, every election year effectively
4:11
that we have which we have it, we have someone is being elected from
4:15
to the board every two years right at that July meeting, whenever that first
4:18
July meeting, we are required to nominate and elect a president to serve two
4:23
years. And the president's role and of course the president pro ten which is
4:26
like the vice president, which is what I just was, and really our
4:29
role is to lead the meetings. Obviously you get the gable, get the
4:32
gabble. I don't know if I'm going to use the gavel or not.
4:34
We were joking about that. We do have a gavel there, but no
4:36
one that really used it. I've been there. Yeah, I think you
4:40
should. I think you should think that if things get like maybe unruly,
4:44
I could use it, but never really maybe a bullhorn, yeah, imagine
4:47
that. I don't I don't think I'm the bullhorn president, say, I
4:50
don't. I don't think you. I don't think you need that. So
4:53
so why do you do this. I mean, you have a you have
4:56
a job as executive director of Charleston Urban Works. Folks do fine, fine
5:00
work. Your full time dad involved in ten thousand other different things in the
5:04
community. Why do you serve on a border education? That's a good question.
5:09
I mean, I you know, and I think when I've been on
5:11
before, I made the joke that so many people when I see the mouth,
5:13
they'll say, you know that that's got to be such a thankless job.
5:15
I think that's sort of the reputation that we have as board members is
5:17
that it's like this thankless role. Right. For me, it's not.
5:21
And I can understand when people think that, because I mean, we're elected.
5:25
We don't run the daily operations of the school system. That's up to
5:28
the superintendent, that says or her role, right, and you know,
5:31
our job is to oversee the superintendent, right as any other corporate board does
5:35
with their executive director or the CEO, and to be that sort of link
5:40
with you know, between the community and the school system, right that that's
5:44
why the people elect us to be that link. And I've never really I've
5:48
enjoyed that role because and I think it's a personality thing right, Like,
5:51
if you enjoy talking to people, you enjoy being out and you know,
5:57
connecting with folks, you can really enjoy this role. So I've never once
6:00
woken up been like, God, what am I doing? It has never
6:02
been me. Now, I could see why some people think that, because
6:04
we do get blamed for things that aren't that aren't our fault, right,
6:08
because so much, you know, so many policy related issues are at the
6:13
state level. Right, we can set our own policies with you know,
6:15
we are a subdivision of the state. We can set our own policies as
6:19
long as it is in line with the state. But at the end of
6:21
the day, there's just some stuff that we can't control, and we're the
6:25
ones at the county level. Those local folks sometimes get blamed. So for
6:28
those reasons, I can see what people think it's not a great role.
6:30
But I think and we get along so well, the five board members here
6:34
in Kannall County, and it's we never really have those issues. It's been
6:39
really enjoyable, and it's not always that way. I know, you're friends
6:42
with BOE members across the state of West Virginia, and you know, everybody
6:46
tries to get along. But again, you're talking about five people, You're
6:48
talking about five personalities, five different ideologies. It doesn't have to run as
6:54
smoothly, and it doesn't sometimes, sadly enough, run as smoothly as what
6:59
it does in can On County. That's right now. I would like to
7:00
think that we set a really good example for how you do operate as a
7:03
board. You know, we've all said this a thousand times. The final
7:06
of us don't always agree on everything, but we respect one another and we
7:11
always, at the end of the day come back with the final result,
7:14
which what is best for the students and the faculty and the administrators of Okenwall
7:18
County. Talking to Rick Cavnar again, the President of the Kanaw County Board
7:21
of Education. Of the day Island Show in five Any Live brought to you
7:24
apart by Pinnacle Consultants. Poor indoor air quality can cause a variety of health
7:29
issues, including allergies, respiratory problems, and more. Pinnacle offers specialized indoor
7:32
air quality services for resident decline. And as long as we promise not only
7:36
our voters, but every constituent, every student, every faculty member, every
7:41
administrator in the county that we're going to be good stewards of their tax dollars,
7:45
their property tax dollars that they pay every year. We have to make
7:47
those difficult decisions sometimes. I want to talk about Rick about public schools in
7:53
general. You know, we have more and more parents nationwide that are choosing
7:58
alternative means of educating their kids outside the public school system, from private schools
8:03
to homeschooling, to charter schools, you know, you name it. The
8:07
number of quote unquote again this is a nationwide thing. The number of quote
8:11
unquote non traditional schools for lack of a better term, seem to be going
8:16
up or these parents are choosing other options. But what's your take on that?
8:20
How do you guys fix this? You know, I think that some
8:24
of that is if, if I'm being frank, is due to misinformation.
8:28
I think that there is definitely there is these voice There are these voices out
8:33
here that claim that and not even really focus on education, focused on like,
8:37
you know, what our students are being what they're hearing in their schools,
8:41
and what they're being taught in public school and whatnot. And there's a
8:45
lot of misinformation out there about what what's occurring in the schools. And that's
8:48
I think getting some parents worried and afraid and maybe wanting them wanting to see
8:54
them go have their children go to to other education of other means. Now,
9:00
as far as what's happened here in West Virginia over the past whatever four
9:03
years with the with the creation of charter schools in West Virginia, I'm personally
9:07
and i've been I have made public statements on this in the past, I'm
9:11
as far as West Virginia is concerned, and the way again back to our
9:13
population, I don't think charter schools can really really work in you know,
9:20
a long term setting, you know. But in as far as being a
9:24
public school board member, it's not great because those public tax dollars are still
9:28
being in part paying we're paying to help fund these schools that have absolutely we
9:33
have no jurisdiction over whatsoever, and they create their own charter, they create
9:37
their own bylaws, they have full control over what they're doing, and we're
9:41
still having to give them money. We're talking right now, Dave. We've
9:43
we budgeted over eight hundred thousand dollars that will be funneled through us to go
9:48
directly to charter schools for this coming for this coming school year. For our
9:50
budget year, that equals, you know, about ten teacher positions that we
9:56
may have to turn around and cut or move in some way because of those
10:01
funds that we are required to have to give to charter school. So excuse
10:05
me. I have my own personal sort of philosophical feelings on that, you
10:11
know. But parents do have the right to educate their kids how they see
10:15
fit. I grew up with some homeschool kids and they went on to do
10:16
some great things. You know, it really is up to the individual parent.
10:20
But I do believe that our public schools have a whole lot to offer
10:24
a lot of programming Here in Kannall County. We have a lot of programming
10:28
to prepare students, not just for if they decide to go to a four
10:31
year university, but also if they decide to go into a trade or if
10:35
they decide to go directly into the workforce. There really is something for every
10:39
student in Kannall County, and we have really great people leading those programs.
10:43
We have great virtual programs for maybe those kids who don't do well in a
10:46
in an in person setting. We have a wonderful the Model Virtual program for
10:50
the State of West Virginia so there's a lot of options out there, and
10:54
so I do want to I want people to keep that in mind when they're
10:56
making those decisions. They have a text before we let you go. It
10:58
says speak consolidation. Can you ask Rick if he thinks we really need fifty
11:03
five full boards of education in the small state seems very top heavy with fifty
11:07
five high paid superintendent said administration. I know you can't speak, you know,
11:11
to anything beyond Kanawha County, but this is an argument, or at
11:18
least a statement that's been put out there from time to time by people.
11:20
Do you care to comment on that I've heard. I've heard this argument,
11:24
and I've been posed this question several times. And you know, if you
11:28
take a step back and look at the whole state, and you know,
11:30
you've probably seen some of those studies, those hypotheticals where people will, you
11:33
know, they'll this idea of like you know, meshing three or four counties
11:37
together to create larger metropolitan statistical areas, right, which then will be good
11:41
for economic development purposes, right, because if you have more more condensed,
11:45
more folks in a condensed area, that you can then sort of tout as
11:48
one county versus three separate counties with three separate count of commissions or three separate
11:50
boards of education, or whatever the case is. There could be other opportunities
11:56
economically speaking, business development speaking, that could be beneficial. So I've I've
12:00
looked at both sides of those of those arguments, both of those those viewpoints.
12:03
As far as how we are set up in West Virginia, we are
12:07
one of the few county or excuse me states left in the in the country
12:11
that still operates in a county of just a full county school countem right.
12:13
Usually you see like independent school districts or school district the state of Ohio,
12:16
for example, I've spent when I when I was in Ohio. You know,
12:20
you have county schools and then you have city schools, different superintendents,
12:24
different different boards or commissions or whatever you call it. Funding is set up
12:28
differently all that. Yes, so we are sort of, I guess you
12:31
would say, sort of still in that archaic old school county school system set
12:35
up. But again, as you mentioned, that is a state decision.
12:39
I think as long as we are set up to be county school systems,
12:41
I'm very proud to be a county board member here in Kanaal, we definitely
12:43
have one of the best superintendents, probably not in the state, but in
12:46
the in the country. Well, Rick, class Act. I've known you
12:48
for some time, man, I know you're doing good things out there.
12:50
I appreciate you being here. Any final words that you want to say before
12:54
we leave. I ought to say thank you to my fellow board members for
12:56

12:58
put you a statements. Thank the voters for coming out strong and choosing to
13:03
keep me for another four years. It definitely means the world to me.

the Bigley Piggly Wiggly houtline Chris in good morning, welcome back to the show.
16:41
Good morning day, Thanks for having me, appreciate it, Thank you
16:42
for being here. Have a good fourth Yes, had a wonderful force is
16:47
relaxing time. Saw some good fireworks and ate some good food. So back
16:49
to the grinds. That's what that's what it's all about now, Chris,
16:52
even on several times in the past. But for people who may not know
16:56
exactly what is this alliance? Is Allen Creek Alliance. Yeah, So Allen
17:00
Creek Alliance more about community development within Allen Creek. So we do blood drives
17:07
fundraisers. Our mission is to improve community access to health, nutrition, social
17:11
and recreation services in Allen Creek area. So we aim to enhance a well
17:17
being of residents while also providing essential resources and fostering those community connections. And
17:22
how did a lot of fundraisers coming up? Well, I was going to
17:25
say, how did this whole thing come about? How did you get involved
17:27
in it? I've been involved with Allen Creek Alliance now for a couple of
17:32
years. So my aunt Laura mark Er, she's been affiliated with Allen Creek
17:37
for many, many years. They go way back, and she actually was
17:40
able to get me involved because I'm interested in community involvement. But it's a
17:44
great organization there. For a while when COVID hit, we were not joining
17:48
a lot of things, but since then we have grown now and we're out
17:52
and about in the community and we want people to learn and know about what
17:56
we're doing here to help enhance resources that we want to do. And then,
18:00
as you know, the Washington Just Community Center building is now complete,
18:04
which that's where we host most of our even I don't want to talk about
18:07
that because it's a I've never been in it, but I have driven by
18:11
it several times and it's uh. If you're if you're in the general vicinity
18:15
around South Ridge, I know that you've seen it several times on sand Planet.
18:18
It's a it's a great looking facility. It is. It's awesome and
18:22
inside it's amazing. It's pretty nice. We have a kitchen. There's also
18:26
basketball, so during the day anyone can go in and play basketball hoops.
18:32
They are open to the public from nine to seven. You go in,
18:34
there'll be a gentleman day or where you sign in and so you can do
18:38
that. We're looking at later on expanding maybe I adding some pickleball and volleyball
18:42
later, but now you can do there's awesome basketball hoops in there. Or
18:45
you can even walk even if you want to do some walking indoor because it's
18:48
so hot outside right now. Anyone is welcome to go inside and you can
18:52
actually do some laps around the court. And it's open to the public.
18:56
I mean, anybody can use it or anybody that does what you're telling me
19:00
exactly. Yeah, you can come in for open gym that is what we
19:03
call it, so open gym during the day for those types of things.
19:06
If you're interested. You can host birthday parties, private events, but that
19:11
is actually through the City of South Charleston, not through Allankirk Creek a line.
19:15
You can do that by reaching out to the City of South Charleston and
19:18
making those connections with them to schedule your event. Then the lot presented in

19:33

19:37
It's going to be inside and outside, So it's going to be this
19:41
Saturday from seven to twelve. We will have two sessions and you can come
19:45
and shop and grab a bite to eat. We'll have some biscuits and some
19:49
eggs biscuits and some sausage biscuits. And also though we are still accepting people
19:55
if you want to interested in renting a booth, so you can rent outside
19:59
or inside at si dollars. Outside it's twenty dollars for inside. We do
20:03
have tables right now. We do have people still available. Its needs to
20:07
be that we can provide to those who need them. So now, are
20:11
you looking for primarily just people that just want to you know, like like
20:15
you know, yard sale type stuff, you're looking for people to do food
20:18
I mean, or just open to anybody that wants to get a booth right
20:21
or yes, mainly yard sale stuff, okayel people who want to rent a
20:25
booth, because we still have availability for booth rentals. So we're still looking
20:30
to help facilitate that with people renting some booths because we do have that available.
20:33
But if you're interested just to come and shop and check out the community
20:37
center, you can do that as well. And you folks have done things
20:41
like this in the past. I mean as far as you know, you've
20:44
done you've done different different yard sales, inside out and whatever you want to
20:47
call it. You've you've done this in the past, and you've been pretty
20:48
successful with them. We have, yet we've been real successful. Yeah.
20:52
Absolutely, we always have a good crowd come in. Especially, Hey,
20:56
when you have yard tails and food, you can't beat it. So yeah,
20:59
we usually have a good crowd come in for both people coming into shopping
21:03
off of people participating. We do have I like to mention coming up a
21:07
blood drive American Red Cross will be in the Washington District Community Center July thirtieth
21:12
from one to six. Okay, interested in that as well. And I
21:15
can tell you from having talked about blood drives on the radio for the past
21:18
thirty some odd years, summertime tends to be and I'm not an expert,
21:23
but tends to be one of the times that the blood donations normally have a
21:27
tendency to go down because people are thinking vacations, they're eventually thinking back to
21:32
school, They're thinking all these different activities and festivals and so on and so
21:34
forth. Sometimes they don't think about giving blood. So you're giving people an
21:38
opportunity to do that again on the thirtieth. Is that what you said,
21:41
Yes, July thirtieth, one to six. All right, So if people
21:45
are listening right now and they say, hey, I want to get a
21:48
booth, what's the time frame here? I mean, is there a cutoff?
21:49
I mean, do you have so many slots available? What do you
21:52
got? Yeah, so we have flots available. We're still taking floods.
21:56
A cutoff time will be Friday. You can set up Friday evening the night
22:00
before if you don't want to come early Saturday and set up. So we
22:03
are going to be there Friday evening for that. But yes, you still
22:07
can sign up by going to Allen Creek Alliance Facebook page. There is a
22:11
link to sign up there. You'll see the yard Cell. You'll click the
22:15

22:33
you'll sign up from there. And I've got some information that I posted in
22:36

23:32
We're gonna be talking about a lot of them, including this Toward the end
23:36
of this week, I've got to have my good friend Johnny Rutherford on for

23:45
Well, this weekend they are going toward the end of the weekend. End
23:49
of the weekend, they got this major, major pickleball event happening in Nitro.
23:55
They're bringing in the top rank pickleball player in the entire country. And
23:59
I've actually had had her on the show a couple of months ago. So
24:02
tomorrow I've asked john to stop by the studios to kind of talk about it
24:06
and how you can get involved in it. That's going to be going on

25:02
I mentioned earlier in the show kind of preview, and I'm going to get
25:06
into a little bit later on. We are going to talk to Brian Hughes
25:07
about Regatta. Here momentarily, but I did mention the fact that the calls
25:12
are coming out for President Biden to drop out of the race. There's been
25:18
at least five to six well high ranking folks in Washington that have come out
25:23
and said it is time for him to withdraw from the race. And as
25:27
soon as I mentioned it, I got a text. So I'm going to
25:30
read this text and we'll go to break and I'll get back into this a
25:33
little bit later on the show. Texas, If you're calling for Biden to

26:07
That was a quote. Look what I'm talking about here, though, is
26:11
coming from Democrats. You're not going to hear a heck of a lot of
26:17
Democrats say well, I think Trump should stay in the race. I mean
26:19
they didn't want him there to begin with. And a whole lot of Republicans
26:22
didn't want Trump there to begin with. Not enough, in my opinion,

29:56
Now, Brian, good morning, Well, good pointed, Dave. You
30:00
still gotta regot it. I said that earlier. I was talking to Rick
30:03
Cavanter and I said, I think this was off the air. I was,
30:07
and I was going to say the words you got and Regott. It
30:08
just came out. You know, it's like you gotta Regot. I didn't
30:11
mean to say you got it, Regott. It. I turned on my
30:14
TV, as I do every morning, Brian. I turned on my TV
30:17
when I get out of bed and I'm having my coffee and turn on my
30:18
TV, and there you are on television. I thought, I thought,
30:22
surely that you would at least take a day off. Have you had any
30:26
sleep in all of the last couple of days for the entire event, I
30:30
pretty much slept two to two and a half hours each night. I mean
30:33
then if I would try and take a mid day short nap, I would
30:37
get phone calls the entire time. So my watchtow man slipped six hours last
30:41
night. I don't believe it. You're not as young as you used to
30:44
be, Brian. You know you know that right well, you know,
30:48
the mayor and I were discussing it. It just feel like it's just it
30:52
was tougher this year. But you know, we pulled it off, and
30:55
that's what matters. Could we call it a success in your in your in
30:59
your eyes? Absolutely we we we believe it was a round uh just a
31:04
round success across the board. And you know what what we've looked at is
31:10
we've looked at it, you know, just just eyeballing it. Attendance for
31:14
each night and such. And the only one that we had that we were
31:17
lower was on the country music night. We don't think it was particularly because
31:19
of music. And he had to be thunderstorm watched it had been issued,
31:22
storms were threatening earlier in the day and and uh, and plus the humiditative
31:26
just through the roof that day, So you know, I think that had
31:30
some factors in it. But you know, collectively, this was great.
31:33
Talking to vendors, a number of them who've been with us all three years,
31:37
we're talking about your numbers were roughly fifty percent higher than what they had
31:41
been in the prior years. And uh, you know, I was talking
31:45
with Tim Beavers over a corporate identity and uh and he said, man,
31:49
on Saturday, he said he was slammed. They had to pull in extra
31:53
people. He said he was a He said it was as guy quote bunkers,
31:57
so bokers knockers. Yeah, that's that's a quote. When you were
32:04
on the show, and I had the mayor on the show, and I
32:06
even had Tim Brady others on the show. We talked about and this goes
32:09
with any event, Brian. It's like, you know, year one,
32:13
when it came back, you're kind of learning what you're doing, Okay.
32:15
Year two you're usually trying to clean up the messes and things you did wrong
32:20
in year one. That this is true of any event, not just forgot
32:22
it. Year three is the pivotal year. Though this was the pivotal year
32:27
because you had two years under your belt. And again based on everything that
32:30
I have seen and everybody that I've talked to, you know, the city
32:34
and you guys knocked it down the park again well, and we greatly appreciate
32:38
that, you know, And we were even even going in about two weeks
32:44
a month to two weeks before, we were starting to write down things that
32:46
need to be fixed for twenty twenty five and and so we've got a number
32:51
of those things. And actually, you know, with our sponsorship packages,
32:54
U you know, we've had a number of people said I want to be
32:58
a sponsor. Now you know, it took them three years to say I
33:00
want to do this or I want to do more, and so you know,
33:04
we're going to have those out, you know, within the next month
33:07
going into twenty twenty five, and we're already discussing, you know, August
33:10
into September, getting these bookings finalized early for concerts and stuff, because once
33:16
we can secure you know, some of those sponsorship dollars when we're looking at
33:22
nonprofit moneies that that people are donating things of that nature, if we can
33:27
do those starting in August in September, a lot of those budgets are finalized
33:30
by October, you know, then we have you know, a basis for
33:34
where we need to be at certain levels. But we think we're in really
33:38
good shape going into twenty twenty five and two next years. You know,
33:44
I think it's going to settle up as a thirty Thursday, Friday, Saturday
33:46
Sunday event, you know. And here's the thing there and Mayor have talked
33:52
about it, you talked about on the show in the past two Brian.
33:54
I mean, everybody remembers the heyday of Regatta back around Labor Day, and
34:00
that's one of the complaints that we get is, you know, back in
34:01
the day it was also a ten day festival. People say, well,
34:04
why isn't it later because so many people have vacations in and around the fourth
34:08
of July it's you know, typically you're a weather guy. Typically you know
34:13
it's oppressive heat and so on and so forth. I think the Mayor brought
34:16
up a really good point. This was, you know, back when I
34:19
was in school, back back in the old days. You know, school
34:22
started the start of the day after Labor Day. It's not that way now
34:25
in most areas. August fifteenth, sixteenth or whatever, kids are back in
34:30
school. And so that's going to cut into that's going to cut into it
34:34
a little bit. But I'll let you speak to that and from the reg
34:37
from the Stern Wheelers perspective as well, because that's something you know a lot
34:39
about. Yeah, So when it was, when it was, the event
34:44
was terminated when the Stern Wheelers left. And you know, and on that
34:46
Labor Day way back when I say way back when, in about two thousand
34:52
and seven, thousand and eight, you know, everybody else filled in the
34:57
gap, and point pleasant took over labor a weekend. And while put pleasants
35:00
tribute to the river, it's not a big event. It's a pivotal event.
35:05
You know, it's you get to you get to essentially go almost halfway
35:08
to Marietta. And it was you know, and stopped there for a weekend.
35:13
So that occurred, and we'd even discussed briefly, just briefly about maybe
35:19
could we negotiate Labor Day weekend with Mary with a point pleasant it just didn't
35:24
make sense because you're right, schools start now middle of August now, some
35:29
of them even almost nearly the second versus almost second week of August. You've
35:32
got college football that you know, back then two thousand and seven eight,
35:39
you know, they weren't starting as early as they are now. Now you've
35:42
got you know, games or even a weekend before Labor Day. So all
35:46
that being said, the attendance just wasn't going to be There would have been
35:50
a touch schooler probably, but you know, that's just where we had to
35:53
conte do do are people making the changes in their vacation plans out? Yes,
36:00
I'm run into a number of people, my uh, my doctor,
36:04
my primary care position. She said, we can't leave on July fourth anymore
36:07
because my son wants to be here for Regatta with all his friends. And
36:13
I've heard a number of parents talk about that, that their kids do not
36:16
want to leave July fourth weekend. Now, uh, you almost to the
36:20
point that they don't want to go to the family vacation, Well, who
36:22
does want to go on the family give it us beside the point exactly,
36:27
because you never want to be with your with your parents the whole time on
36:29
a family vacation. But but they but they like this here. So you
36:32
know what we have and actually the mayor brought this up, you know,
36:35
a few years ago. We're gonna try this and if it works, people
36:38
will start changing their holiday bay holiday vacation plans and they'll stick around here because
36:44
for one thing, it is a vacation and the same you don't have to
36:46
pay for lodging, you don't have to leave, and you're gonna they're gonna
36:50
spend a lot of that vacation money right here in town and that's gonna help
36:53
everybody, the collective, whole businesses, everyone. It's amazing what a dollar
37:00
will do here in town. With Regatta talking to Brian Hughes before we let
37:05
you go, Brian, there was a couple of points I wanted to bring
37:07
up. One of the things that I noticed in uh and doing a lot
37:12
of the social media that I do for myself, and one of the other
37:15
stations here in the building was I was constantly monitoring the social media of the
37:19
city and Regatta and so on and so forth. The number of people that
37:22
commented and said, I've never been to this event before, how do I
37:28
do this? Or where's the best place to see this concert? Or where's
37:31
the best place for this? Because I've never been there before. That's what
37:36
that bringing this whole thing was about. I mean, you know, obviously
37:39
we want to take care of the locals we wanted off, but we also
37:42
want to get heads in beds. As Tim Brady would say, we want
37:45
to get people here from out of town. And when you see people posing
37:49
these questions, Brian and saying, you know, I've never I've never been
37:52
here before, Where's the best place for this, where's the best way?
37:54
I saw a whole lot of that on social media traffic. Brian. You
37:58
know what we did too, And I'm glad you say that, because obviously
38:02
I'm monitoring a lot of social media, have to do my own and everything
38:05
else. And you sell a lot of people who said I wanted to go
38:09
down there, but I just I just couldn't. But I really think I
38:13
want to be there now, And you're right, they're asking a few those
38:15
questions, and you know, we've got there there. I think about eight
38:20
to ten of us that monitors, you know, the Bragata Facebook page and
38:22
then also is the city page. So we can answer questions as are being
38:27
thrown at us and in the posts and such, and we're answering them.
38:30
We're answering almost all of them. But you know what was really neat as
38:34
well. You know you're talking about the heads and beds. You know a
38:37
lot of people who said, uh, and I saw this, and I
38:38
was told about this personally that hey, yeah, I live in Winfield,
38:43
but I got a hotel here because I knew it'd be down here and I'd
38:45
probably have a few drinks and didn't want to drive home, and and so
38:50
they would get a hotel in town and we get there just a short drive
38:53
away. Yeah and smart y smart, Yes, yeah, it's very a
38:57
smart move. But but that is that isy that is spent in town.
39:00
It's it's dollars that stay here, and it's people seeing their friends and having
39:05
a good time. And I got to tell you, you know, we
39:07
all we want to do is bring two hundred and fifty thousand of our closest
39:10
friends downtown, have a little party, and I think we've got that ton
39:14
If you had to estimate, and I know it's very very hard to estimate
39:16
because you don't know how many people are on the river. You don't know,
39:19
you know, and and it's not your job to you're you're a meteorologist,
39:22
you're not an accountant to go how many people would you say was there
39:27
for let's say the the show that had Vanilla Ice, the Isle of the
39:31
nineties with tone, Look, how many people if you had to estimate,
39:35
Brian, would you say, we're there? You know, I will say
39:37
this the street and the bowl here saying the bowl down in the Amphitheater,
39:45
it's very deceptive. But I know, having done the Flow Rider last year
39:50
and and you know the year before with Martina and everything else, the bull
39:54
was completely full down the Amphitheater was and people were dancing in front of the
40:01
JumboTron. And what was the most amusing thing to me was, you know,
40:06
some of them recording the jumbo tron on their phone down there. So
40:10
I mean that was cool. But the fact that it was completely full there
40:14
means you know, and we also don't I think you probably noticed this down
40:19
the boulevard that first block of the boulevard that runs right in front of Hadad.
40:22
We moved the vendors up on the sidewalk to open that lane. It's
40:27
open, essentially an extra lane of traffic and still get it was packed all
40:30
the way back to that area. So I couldn't give you an exact number,
40:35
but I think our numbers are going to be at least in total attendance
40:37
between two twenty five and two fifty and probably on the upper end of that.
40:42
I know our sales numbers were up for various sales points collected. I
40:47
mean first night, second night, they were up. They were knocking out
40:51
the numbers from the previous two years. So I think in I think as
40:54
a collective hole, we are going to be bigger and better than we have
40:58
been over the last two years. And you know it could be almost a
41:02
quarter million people in town and you know, economic impact probably gonna be well
41:07
known for north of thirty five million. Unbelievable. Brian. Before we let
41:10
you go, give me thirty seconds on the weather, because you've got to
41:14
make you as if you're on the clock. We got to have you do
41:15
something. Weather. Give me thirty seconds on this week's weather. Well,
41:19
the next two days are going to be stupid hot and get them. Is
41:22
that a scientific term, Brian, stupid hot? It is? It is
41:27
in my book. And if anybody liked George W. Bushy, and if
41:30
you didn't, he always made up some things. So you know, I
41:32
kind of go with that rule. You can make some things up as you
41:36
go along. But mid nineties today tomorrow, heat advisor at effect from noon
41:39
to five o'clock today, heated excite around one hundred. Tomorrow, I think
41:43
we're going to be solidly around ninety five and our heated excise you are going
41:46
to be ninety eight to one oh two. So another heat advisory, more
41:50
widespread will be issued for tomorrow across the region. Did we get some of
41:53
those thunderstorms on Wednesday from Hurricane Berrel that make landfall about five forty five this
41:59
morning? And we're briefly cool on Thursday? Say cool quote unquote at eighty
42:02
six, but back to the low nineties for the weekend. Twenty percent chance

mayor on the East Coast, says a Texter. Texays ha. Now with
46:47
this Biden administration, I've got two unemployed beside me that order in food every
46:52

46:54
president. President Biden is the subject of today's commentary, Hoppy's coventary that is,
47:00
and by the way, you can read that at wv metronews dot com.
47:04
The question is should the president step aside before or after the Democratic National
47:08
Convention? And Hoppy's answer is yes, And I think it would be the
47:14
same answer coming from any sane person Hoppy is a poll going on x now,
47:20
the artist formally known as Twitter, and as of when I checked it
47:23
before I started the show, the yes he should set aside folks were way
47:29
ahead. And I watched the interview Friday night that the president did with ABC
47:35
News and George Stephan Ovelis, and I will say this, I saw nothing
47:39
in that interview to clear up any questions about the mental faculties of President Biden.
47:46
Absolutely nothing, if anything, that interview actually made it worse. And
47:55
as Hoppy points out in his commentary, which I said, you can read
48:00
in full wv metronews dot com, the president's approval rating sets in the mid
48:05
thirties and he is trailing former President Trump by at least six points nationally and
48:12
in the battleground states that Biden won in twenty twenty, he is way behind
48:20
in most of those states. Four years ago, Biden was up by ten
48:22
in the polls. Now he's down and he's going to lose to Trump.
48:27
So where do the Democrats turn? First of all, Biden would have to
48:30
step up and step out. That's where it starts, and then it would
48:34
have to go to vice president. In my eyes, vice president Kamala Harris.
48:38
Polls have shown, at least some of them, that Harris beats Trump
48:43
in a hypothetical matchup, and there's simply folks, in my opinion, there's
48:50
no way that you can look at President Biden and think it's a good idea.
48:53
He continues, in this race, I just wish the Democrats would be
48:58
honest with themselves and everybody needs to stop playing the WATERBOUTI is in games.
49:02
So tech says, we'll close with this, should a thirty four time fella
49:07
step aside. Trump shouldn't have been there to begin with. In my opinion,
49:10
I think he's unfit to be the president of the United States. So
49:14
you're not gotta get an argument there for me one hundred percent. But this
49:16
is about Biden. This is not about Trump. Trump shouldn't be there to
49:19
begin with in my opinion. All right, thanks to Brian Hughes for being
49:22
