- 1:52SPEAKER_01: Make sure that you leave us a review, like, share, comment, subscribe.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's it.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: So I'm going to save for that, but it matters.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: So.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: I'm excited because I'm talking to a fellow problem solver today, which I love.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: So I want to introduce you guys to Rosanna.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: She has been referred over to me.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: So you guys get to know her at the same time I'm getting to know her.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: So Rosanna, why don't you start us off by sharing bits and pieces of your bio, I guess, what somebody would need to know, and then we can kind of chit-chat and go from there.
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: So I'm Rosanna Patella.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: And things you should know about me, I'm a lifelong learner.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: So I have a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, and a PhD, which just means paper that say I can solve a lot of problems.
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: But the truth is I've been able to solve problems since I was eight years old and I'd never had any of those degrees.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: I think that's just natural instinct with me.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: And so the reason I met Candice Gish, who you just mentioned, was because we are both very much aligned in trying to make the world a better place.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: My goal is I created a brain trust.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: I brought people in from all over the world that are brilliant.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: And we work together and we merge all our IQ to identify problems and to create solutions and then to go shoulder to shoulder with the people who need to execute on those problems.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: Right now, my team is the One Voice Institute of Elemental Ethics and Education.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: Long name.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Say that three times fast, right?
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: It is an institute right here in Canada and on the island.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: We have identified two problems.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: One is artists and entrepreneurs need a spotlight, need to be uplifted.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: We're working on that.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: And then secondly, we are really recreating a way for hospitality industry to come back.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I have a background in event planning.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: And let me tell you, I mean, when this thing hit, wow, it was like run for cover.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: And I was so grateful that I had transitioned a large part of my business from doing physical events, right, within hospitality and that sort of thing into marketing for the events, which, of course, was a great place to be.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: So thank goodness, right?
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: But I've seen a lot of friends in that industry just decimated by the recent changes.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: So that's exciting.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: We'll have to make sure that for my event type friends, you'll have to go to contact Rosanna down below please anybody in
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: hospitality tell them to reach out.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: We have a solution.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: Oh That's gonna be like the tagline.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: I think of this video now if you're in hospitality we have a solution but no, I love it because Actually the tagline of my current marketing company is this is a solution.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Absolutely Right anyway, so I love that solutions are great because I I think too many people are focusing on problems, which are fine, but within every challenge, there is the seed of opportunity, right?
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: And so it sounds like you guys really have a beat on that.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: So let's expand more on that because I think the world needs more positive content, especially right now.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: So which problems?
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: The highlighting the artists and entrepreneurs or would you like to discuss?
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: both
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: because you know there's like you know there's an artist in here too so run with that
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: so so firstly yeah firstly when I arrived on Vancouver Island the first group of people I spoke to were the charities wonderful charities Kool-Aid, Mustard Seed, Souk Crisis Center and Souk Food Bank who told marvelous work save people's lives literally and the their problem They couldn't predict income throughout the year.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: They couldn't project when they would have income.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: So we resolved that problem.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: We've defined four events a year that we will host that are fundraisers.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: And that way you have predictable income four times a year.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: That's a big problem for charities.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: And we think those organizations need our help.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: So that's one.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: One of those events.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: is a gala at the Da Vinci Center in a very elegant fair that raised money for that purpose.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: And once there, we realized that the artists and entrepreneurs that were involved with that event had the same problem.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: They needed to be spotlit and uplifted.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: They needed a way to get into the limelight.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: You know what that takes?
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: Money, know-how.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: Money, time, effort, energy, know-how.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: So we created a pay-forward model.
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: In other words, hi, Mr.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: and Mrs.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: Fantastic Artist, we're going to get you up on a global marketplace.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: We're going to create a bio, an elevator speech.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: um a headshot we're going to take product shots of all your stuff we're going to put you in an e-commerce situation you're going to pay nothing we're going to set this all up for you and then once we launch in august and you start making whatever threshold amount you need to make you will start paying 10 back into the platform so it's around forever for all of the other artists and entrepreneurs coming behind you so that's our model and it's about to launch in the end of august so we're very excited it's called the isla spotlight because that's what it is that's that So then our team is in progress in getting all of those people onto the platform and getting them ready to launch.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: That's amazing.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: Then next came hospitality.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: Then came hospitality because, in fact, what we did with the CLS spotlit the fact that most of our hospitality partners were going to close as a result of COVID.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: They're closed or have to close.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: highly diminished by the precautionary rules like distancing and only deliveries and takeout.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: Nobody can survive crunch the numbers.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: Nobody in a restaurant has that kind of margin.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: So we decided we would create a system that did not require the margin.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: And so we defined a a restaurant configuration and an offering, a very unusual offering, which is going to be unveiled in October, which I will share on your show if you like when it is, that provides an opportunity, an ambiance that doesn't exist anywhere in Canada yet.
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: And it will draw back the audience.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: It will create the participation and safety.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: And it will allow them to make back the money they lost during the COVID period.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: And I think that's going
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: to be a big challenge.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: So that's what we're working on right
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: now.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: A long
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: scroll of other
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: things.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: A long scroll
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: of other things.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: No, it isn't.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: We do.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: And I like how you're looking at it and then just, you know, finding the solution.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: It seems like it's also meant to be aimed at the local entrepreneur, which if anybody who's followed along with my podcast know that that's such a huge deal for me.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: Global mindset, but think local, right?
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: Always.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Because it's amazing.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: That's why we're unveiling all of these things here, but they're modularly component wise so that once like for example the isla platform is mounted and successful locally we will be then bringing it to other cities that need it like toronto ontario everyone needs that so it's easy to duplicate once you've got the system down yeah we're very agile lean we're very big on concept and so we do proof of concept prove it to be successful pack it up and move it on like I
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: like it but I think that's important and I mean um my team and I are working on some things right now to help you know ideas that you know they're like we'd like to franchise this and I'm like sure if your marketing is solid and you have systems in place then we're good to go and so getting those systems down we should talk about that we probably should I was thinking the same thing I'm like oh Candace I love you so much
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: I say we're not about ownership Right.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: We just met with a wonderful hospitality group this morning.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: We're not about ownership.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: We don't want to put something in there that they constantly pay us to do.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: We want to give them tested and then we want to give them ownership.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: So that's how we work.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: And that's awesome.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think that builds.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it does.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, even with our team, what we do is we end up building a lot of websites, right?
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Because we want, we do marketing.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: And so all the different elements of the sales funnel, which I won't get into here.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: And we always give them, you know, hosting and we give them, you know, permissions and they're like, well, this is never done before.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: And I say, yeah, I don't want your stuff.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: People do it so that they have control.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: I don't want that.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: I want to empower you.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Off you go.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: Send me a referral.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: That's how this works, right?
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: It's like that pay it forward kind of a model, right?
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: It makes sense.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: Definitely work together.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: We can hang out here.
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: I can see this
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: already.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: We're all about developing their wings and then pushing for the next.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: Like let them fly.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: Perfect.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: As our listeners can tell, once again, we've gotten on here.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: Honestly, honestly, it's like you find your tribe, right?
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: And then it's just amazing how things start to happen.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: And I was sharing this with a contractor who's busy working on my tiny house right now.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: you know, that some of us have really had an opportunity to thrive and other companies have been really struggling through that.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: But within that challenge, there is that seed of equal opportunity.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: And how neat is that?
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Now, for my listeners, they know I like to keep these compact.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: This is really like a teaser and a taste of, you know, who the guest is, where they can go and how they can get involved.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: So if I was going to hand you the microphone and say, you know, there's a message you want to share with our listeners, what do you want to share?
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: Very easy.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: The message is hope.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, it's a really tough time right now.
- 11:45SPEAKER_02: You're at home and you're behind closed doors and you miss everybody and you just want to see your friends and you just want to have a good time.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: There's this risk, a lot of people have lost their jobs or are about to lose their jobs because things are not running.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: Understand that this is a period that you're going through that is temporary.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: This is temporary.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: There's hope out here right now.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: There's groups like ours and yours that we are here to help just reach out and ask.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: And we want to make it better.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: We do.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: We want to share.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: We want to talk about ideas.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: We've got a couple of clients right now that we have the same sort of thing like you said, where we're doing a lot of work up front to say, and then when things start to pick up for you, it's going to come back around, right?
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: But you know what?
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: Like if we don't all help each other, and I don't know about you, but my intuition is fairly high.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: And so I feel like if I lean into that intuition and you're attracting the right people with the right attitude who are willing to put in the sweat equity, then sharing that extra different piece or, hey, here's how you do it, rock and roll, off you go.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: It also, life is short.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: Let's be real.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: And I don't know about any of our listeners or you, but for me, COVID kind of made me realize If it doesn't make me happy, if it doesn't bring me joy, if it's not lighting me up, there is not enough time for it.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: I am like your sister.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, there have been some big changes and not all of them felt great or still feel great.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: Even in my own life, as much as I've seen some amazing things happen, some painful moments, some painful letting go, some painful changes.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: And at the same time, I feel myself sitting back and saying, okay, as we're wrapping back up, right, there's a lot of those memes out there.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: Make sure that the things you're getting back into are things you actually want to have back in your
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: life.
- 13:34UNKNOWN: Absolutely.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: And
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: my team has got some younger people and some older people in them.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: And we broadcast every day.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: We have a scrum.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: You can make a decision to be miserable or you can make a decision to be happy.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: So let's just be happy.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: It's the same decision.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: Let's
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: just go for the positive side.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: And like you and I had started off when we chatted, I hope our listeners are enjoying this as much as I am.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: We have never chatted before, okay?
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: This is what happens when you get on plan, on purpose, and you start living from your values, when you start living from the place that lights you up.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: And if you are somebody who is sitting back and you do not have a life that lights you up, I've been there.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: I was totally there.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: We have been.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: You just got to start every day slowly.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: You're turning the Titanic.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: That's your life.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: It's not going to happen overnight, but you just start turning it and eventually you get where you want to go and you wake up one day and go, I love my life.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: That's the message.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: Reach out.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: Don't despair.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: The new normal is going to be that.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: It's going to be a new normal.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: We adjusted after 9-11.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: We all go through security now at airlines.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: It's not a big deal.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: We adjusted to this new normal, too.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: But let's hold on to each other, right?
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: Let's just push each other through.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: So anybody listening, you've got Candace Smiley to ask for help, and you've got Rosanna Patel at the One Voice Institute.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: Well, and to be honest, yeah, exactly.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: That's like the whole podcast, right?
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: And the reality is, it's like, we have networks right i mean if you and when you start following me rosanna i do these things where i say hey hive and everybody's like you and your hive and i'm like are you kidding one of the biggest blessings of my life is the group of people not just the you know the core right the core that knows me and then there's that other core that i'd hang out and have coffee and drink you know drink glass and wine with and then there's everybody else And I love, I just love it.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: I just want to, I want to hug it.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: Read, read the go givers when I was just getting started in business.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Love, love, love.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: And it's so amazing how I'll say, yo, this question and the people love to help.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: People love to help.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: They do.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: We get a kick out of that.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: They do.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: And so you
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: have to ask them.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: And right now, he was the care and one voice instant.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: are co-branding and co-hosting a bunch of things.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: You get two for the price of one.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: Ask anybody on either side and you get help from both sides.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: So that's perfect.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Can I
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: come back in August and talk about the launch?
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: That would be fun.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: Yes, let's do that.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: I'd love to.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Then I can actually
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: show you things.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: I would love that, Rosanna.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: I love the energy here.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: I want to connect after this podcast and hang out and see how else we can join things together.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: BC is near and dear to my heart, so I would love to see how we can bring more of the provinces together.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: Obviously, for my
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: listeners.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Seriously.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: you have a need, a question, a thought, a concern, you want to know more, get in touch with Rosanna.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Her information will be down in below and you can do that.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know what else to say.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: I feel like this is like, and that's a wrap.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: This is good.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: Go be inspired.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Seriously, like, love, subscribe, follow.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: Thank you for joining me today.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: I feel...
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: My pleasure.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: My honor.
- 17:07UNKNOWN: Thank you.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: Well, listeners, you know where to find us.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: Follow along.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Obviously, mark your calendars.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: I'll let you know when we're going to have Rosanna back.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: And we will go through those things.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: We will give you more details.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: If you're feeling lost or overwhelmed, I've been there.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: Okay?
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: Believe me.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: Lost my marbles more than a few times through COVID.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: And so reach out.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, find a friend, call somebody.
