- 2:39If anybody lives in Long Island listening to the show right now
- 2:42live and in color on YouTube and all the platforms we are at
- 2:46right now, ladies and gentlemen, it has been a beautiful day.
- 2:50No humidity really. It's been a nice breeze.
- 2:53The sun's been out. The clouds are out.
- 2:55It's about 80° today. This is where Long Island really
- 3:00flexes its muscles when it's a kind of day like this.
- 3:04I love it. It has been a very spiritual day
- 3:07and whatever that means. If if you're a churchgoer and
- 3:10you're a person that wants to go to, you know, one of those
- 3:14church days and enjoy the, the reign of, you know, God and, and
- 3:19the priest and reverends and all that other stuff.
- 3:22This is the perfect day, ladies and gentlemen, to go to church
- 3:25and enjoy the whoa, the, the lovely.
- 3:29Well, I was about to say weather, but it, it's weather.
- 3:32Anyways, I, I, I want to get off the weather situation.
- 3:35Speedy, what is up, man? Yeah, I'm doing well.
- 3:37Back of the producers here for the first time in a in a while.
- 3:40Shout out to Tommy. Hope he's feeling better too.
- 3:42I also want to give a shout out. Rest in peace to Ozzy Osbourne,
- 3:44one of the greatest rockers ever, passing away yesterday
- 3:47after his farewell tour with Black Sabbath as well.
- 3:50A big surprise. And if anybody has ever seen the
- 3:53Cosby shows, the Sun, I forget his name, who already played
- 3:57Malcolm Jamal Warner. Malcolm.
- 3:58Yes, he, he passed away too. He drowned at the age I, if I'm
- 4:02not mistaken, 54 years old, 53 years old.
- 4:04He was very, very young. And my mom always told me and my
- 4:08father used to always tell me that it's usually in threes.
- 4:11When somebody dies, they usually go in threes.
- 4:14And yesterday Ozzy Osbourne went, you know, went at what, 76
- 4:20years old, 76 years old, one of the greatest rock singers of all
- 4:23time. A lot of people believe Ozzy
- 4:25Osbourne was at his best when he left Black Sabbath, where he was
- 4:29just Ozzy Osbourne. And I used to watch the Osbourne
- 4:33show was the three seasons were very, very interesting.
- 4:36They are a very interesting family.
- 4:38So my heart goes out to the Osborne family and and the death
- 4:42of one of the greatest singers, one of the greatest rockers, one
- 4:45of the greatest personalities when it came to music and Ozzy
- 4:48Osbourne. So that's a horrible story.
- 4:51Jabba, what's up, man? Not just you guys got great
- 4:54weather today. We got felt like 106.
- 4:56It was, it was a tough one today for us, but and we got all the
- 5:00humidity and all the good stuff. So you guys took all the good
- 5:03stuff from us today, but other than that, got a good workout
- 5:06in, got some stuff, watching some baseball.
- 5:09Yankees are up 1, nothing. Dominguez went deep, so off to a
- 5:12good start. Well, hopefully the Yankees
- 5:14start to pull away in that, a division that the Blue Jays have
- 5:18really been dominating over the last five weeks.
- 5:21The Yankees got to get those bats waking up and they got to
- 5:24decide what they're going to do with Anthony Volpe.
- 5:26We will get into that a little bit later.
- 5:27And sure, I'm sure Jabba has his own thoughts.
- 5:29Actually, me and Jabba were speaking about it on the phone
- 5:32today about where the Yankees or what the Yankees should be doing
- 5:35at the trade deadline. And Anthony Volpe, Where did the
- 5:37Yankees go with Anthony Volpe? Do they decide to move them down
- 5:41or send them down? But what who are they bringing
- 5:43up to play the shortstop position?
- 5:45You know when somebody loses confidence like Anthony when
- 5:48he's going down to his knees and trying to block, block a shot or
- 5:52like a line drive to put his body in front of it, to throw it
- 5:55to 1st, that scares you if you're a shortstop fan,
- 5:59especially Anthony Volpe fan and it just the confidence level.
- 6:02Everybody wants to blame Aaron Boone, it's Aaron Boone's fault,
- 6:05but Aaron Boone is not playing Anthony Volpe's position.
- 6:09Aaron Boone was 1/3 baseman when he played for the Yankees and
- 6:12when he came from Cincinnati. So, and I believe third bases is
- 6:16a hard defensive position. He's pretty damn good at it.
- 6:19I'm not going to tell you that Aaron Boone is one of the best
- 6:23defensive minded managers in baseball because that would be a
- 6:26lie. But Aaron Boone can only help
- 6:30the kid develop. You can't teach the kid to
- 6:32develop. He's got to figure that out
- 6:33himself. So unfortunately, Anthony Volpe
- 6:36has not figured that out and the Yankees are going to probably
- 6:40start to look deeper into their farm system in the next two
- 6:43years. They do have a young shortstop
- 6:45that day. They I think signed.
- 6:47They got him from the Dominican Republic when he was 16 years
- 6:51old. He's now I, if I'm not mistaken,
- 6:5418, going to be 19. He's still pretty young.
- 6:57They do believe he's A5 to a player.
- 6:58We'll see where that kid, you know, as as the the next two
- 7:02years come along, what what type of player he's going to be when
- 7:06he gets called up from the New York Yankees.
- 7:08Anthony Volpe was the guy that I really thought was going to be a
- 7:10star in this league. But once you lose confidence,
- 7:12Clint Frazier is the the guy that really sticks out to me
- 7:16over the years. Clint Frazier was a 5 to 5 to a
- 7:18player when the Yankees traded for him, if I'm not mistaken.
- 7:21Was Cleveland right? Yeah, it was.
- 7:22It was the Andrew Miller trade with the Indians at that time.
- 7:26And he came to the Yankees and besides the the problems he had
- 7:30with his cats, if you remember that he never really developed
- 7:34with the New York Yankees, Then eventually the Yankees traded
- 7:37him or let him go. He went to the Sox if I'm not
- 7:39mistaken, and his. Bumped around a bunch of teams.
- 7:42Yeah, his career completely felt flat in his face.
- 7:45I don't want that to happen to Anthony Volpe, but I'm hoping
- 7:48that he figures it out. But the Yankees got to figure
- 7:49out what they're going to do. At 9:45, we'll be talking to
- 7:521111 year MLP catcher Jimmy Lawrence will be joining us.
- 7:56He's been on a show before. If you don't remember him, I
- 7:59remember him very, very, very much when he played in 95 with
- 8:04the Yankees, in 96 with the Yankees.
- 8:05But 95, those home runs against Seattle, those stuck out to me
- 8:09the most with Jimmy. And Jimmy is a great
- 8:11personality. Last time he was on the show, he
- 8:14was in, if I'm not mistaken, he was at Yankee Stadium at a
- 8:17playoff game in the, in the press area so or wherever he
- 8:22was. But Jimmy is a great guy, very
- 8:26good friend of the show and and a great personality.
- 8:28So I'm interested to hear what he's got to say with the Yankees
- 8:31and what he thinks the Yankees need to do moving forward.
- 8:33But a lot to get into. Maryland football coach Mike
- 8:37Locksley told ESPN that he blames the NIL for the reason
- 8:42his football team lost the locker room the last year.
- 8:45Lock Locksley said he still took accountability as a head coach,
- 8:51but says the discussions over which players should be given an
- 8:56NIL deal or money each week was a problem.
- 9:00He added that it was a difficult dilemma to reward the younger
- 9:04players with higher upside or the older players that have been
- 9:10committed to Maryland football and their program.
- 9:13Locksley now added added a sign in Maryland locker room telling
- 9:19players to leave their financial statements and car keys outside
- 9:24of the locker room to focus on football.
- 9:27He says that the players since the new court ruling in July on
- 9:32July 1st have been much more focused on football right now
- 9:37rather than how much they're getting paid with their NIL
- 9:42deals. Maryland was four and eight last
- 9:45season after three straight winning seasons from 2021 to
- 9:502023, winning a ball game in all three seasons.
- 9:56I don't know much about Locksley, OK, and and me and
- 9:59fish were talking about him off, you know, on the phone today
- 10:03offset of our show and this story.
- 10:07Obviously we knew eventually the nil deals were going to get in a
- 10:12way with players deciding where they're going to go to school or
- 10:17how much money are these players going to be asking for if
- 10:20they're a superstar player or one of the best recruits right
- 10:23now in the country. And again, you just don't know
- 10:26you you could be a four-star, five star recruit or you could
- 10:29be a 3 1/2 star recruit. Ward wasn't even I don't even
- 10:32think he was in any * recruit and look, he was the number one
- 10:36pick in the NFL draft. So again, everybody's going to
- 10:40star you because of what you did in high school.
- 10:42But again, Locksley has a point and he doesn't have a point.
- 10:46This is the same guy that me and Fish were talking about was a
- 10:49part of the Alabama Crimson Tide when he was the offensive
- 10:52coordinator over there with Nick Saban and his son passed away.
- 10:56Now obviously was an accident as far well, I don't even know if
- 11:00it was an accident because he got shot, but nevertheless, he's
- 11:04a guy that eventually stepped down or lost his job and he got
- 11:08the job over here with Maryland. And Maryland is a good
- 11:12basketball program. They're not really known for
- 11:14their football. We've had a couple of their
- 11:16college football players on our show over the years and they're
- 11:21they're a good, they're good sports program.
- 11:23They're just not really known for their football.
- 11:26But Locksley is a known coach in the NCAA and he's trying to find
- 11:32ways to pay his players. And the NIL deals are going to
- 11:36move forward no matter if they can.
- 11:40They decide who they're going to pay and what players are going
- 11:42to get paid over the next couple of years, or what player is
- 11:46going to be recruited or who is going to get recruited and how
- 11:49much money they're going to get through that recruitment.
- 11:52Now, the NIL deals are also something that a lot of people
- 11:55talk about. And then I don't realize that
- 11:57for years, even though there was not NIL deals, there was money
- 12:00being pushed under the table. So to think, even though NINIL
- 12:05deals are here and they're here to stay, as far as we know right
- 12:09now, there's no guarantees that some of these players aren't
- 12:12getting paid under the table. And again, Locksley could sit
- 12:16there and and make all the excuses in the world.
- 12:19Who's going to get what and what should get what and who should
- 12:22get this and who should get that?
- 12:24The cheerleaders, are they going to get some of that NIL deal
- 12:27because they're a world renowned top end Division One
- 12:30cheerleading squad? No, the fact is they're going to
- 12:33be handed a lot of money or they're going to be had a
- 12:35certain amount of money and they got to decide who deserves what.
- 12:39When you talk about 5 star recruits.
- 12:41And, and again, I will get into my opinion here on what I think
- 12:45how they should settle, how the NILNIL deal should be divided
- 12:49out to any player from any one of their programs, from baseball
- 12:54to hockey to basketball to football.
- 12:57You have to look at it and in a big understanding of what you do
- 13:01in high school. High school players.
- 13:04You work your ass off playing high school ball.
- 13:07Baseball, hockey, football, whatever you play in high
- 13:11school, you try to be the best player you could possibly be.
- 13:14Why? Because you get graded.
- 13:17When you come out of high school in football you get graded.
- 13:21Either a three star recruit, A2 star recruit, A4 star recruit,
- 13:24or a five star recruit, 5 star being the highest.
- 13:28If you're a five star recruit with NILDOS you should be
- 13:33getting the most money because if you're a five star recruit
- 13:36you're one of the best players in the country going into
- 13:38college. Now that doesn't mean you stay a
- 13:40five star recruit. I do believe if you're a five
- 13:43star recruit your first year you should get 5 star recruit and
- 13:48I'll deal money after that depending on how you play.
- 13:53That is where the team decides on how much you make.
- 13:56Furthermore, after your first season as a five star recruit,
- 14:00because after your first season you could be considered a three
- 14:04star recruit even though you're not, the fact is these NIL deals
- 14:09are going to get into the way of how these players decide what,
- 14:13where these these players decide where they want to go in the
- 14:16future. You want to go if you're playing
- 14:18football, you want to play for Alabama, you want to play for
- 14:21Georgia, you want to play for USC, you want to play for the
- 14:24you want to play for the top recruiting programs in the
- 14:27country. Usually in college football,
- 14:29it's the SEC. In college basketball now you
- 14:34have obviously the East, which has been very, very good with
- 14:38UConn and Villanova and some of the best teams we've seen being
- 14:42put together over the last 10 years in college basketball.
- 14:45And now you have Patino with St. John's over there.
- 14:49So you have all these top and head coaches, Calipari
- 14:52obviously, or what he's doing right now.
- 14:54And then you have baseball and baseball, obviously we all know
- 14:59who the best baseball team over the last 10 years has been, and
- 15:03that's the LSU Tiger. So the SEC is very big when it
- 15:07comes to baseball as well. So you look at that and that's
- 15:12where if you're a top recruit and we had Preston, we went to
- 15:15his and I was, I was hosting his event.
- 15:18Preston was a 4 1/2 star recruit, so he had Georgia,
- 15:23Rutgers. Who's the other team species?
- 15:25Florida and Auburn. Florida and Auburn, those were
- 15:27the four teams. All four teams were Division One
- 15:30schools, All four of them. And you look at the big picture
- 15:34here, it was probably Georgia or Florida is where you would if
- 15:39you were any one of these other recruited guys sitting there.
- 15:42And looking at all four of those teams, you're probably going
- 15:45with either Florida because they've been such a great
- 15:48recruiting program in college football, or ladies and
- 15:51gentlemen, you're probably going to Georgia Bulldogs because they
- 15:55won back-to-back championships, the last one in 2022.
- 15:58They have one of the best recruiting classes that are
- 16:01going to be put together in the next two years.
- 16:04So I have top three. So you know, and they have one
- 16:06of the best coaches right now in college football.
- 16:09So we we look at NIL deals. You have to look at where
- 16:13they're ranked, how their rank coming out of school.
- 16:17That is where I believe he divide out the money.
- 16:20Now, it's going to be very, very hard.
- 16:22If you're a player that's been playing for that college
- 16:25football team, you didn't decide to portal in to play for another
- 16:28team. That's why you have a portal.
- 16:30If you know a player's being brought in and he's going to be
- 16:33offered this amount of money for NIL, then you go into the portal
- 16:37and you go somewhere that's going to pay you some other team
- 16:39or some some other program that's going to pay you more.
- 16:42There are so many ways now when it comes to college sports where
- 16:47you're the player is really in the driver's seat.
- 16:49It used to never be that way. It never was really that way
- 16:54When you decided to go to a certain school you know that
- 16:58you're going to be on, you're going to be playing for that
- 17:00school for the three or four years you're going to be there.
- 17:03The only time you could decide to portal out of there in which
- 17:06they did, they gave you a chance, you would have to miss
- 17:10one year of eligibility. So that's the problem with
- 17:13college sports. Now you can't, you don't have to
- 17:16worry about that. There's a portal and every
- 17:18single year, actually, I think it's like you got two times.
- 17:21Yeah, the second time you transfer then you have to wait
- 17:23a. Year right, So you get two
- 17:25chances if you want to portal to another school and that opens up
- 17:30so many possibilities for these players to decide.
- 17:33Hey, you know what I could go here I can I'm playing for
- 17:36Georgia right now. I'm one of the best defensive
- 17:38players on this team right now and they're bringing in two or
- 17:40three five star recruits. They're going to be taking my
- 17:43spot at least another year. I want to play two more years of
- 17:45college football. I'll go to Florida, I'll be a
- 17:47starter and they're going to give me more money for my
- 17:50talent. That's the facts and I and I
- 17:52think that's the way the nil deal is going to work until
- 17:57obviously the NCAA figures out how it makes sense.
- 18:00Now, like I said, when you're getting recruited, I think first
- 18:04you should be looking at where they're ranked in the country.
- 18:08If you're a five star recruit, right off the bat, you should be
- 18:10making a certain amount of money there shouldn't that should
- 18:14definitely show these players in and tell these players, hey, you
- 18:17know what, you want to be a high recruit, you want to have, you
- 18:20want to get a lot of money as an NLNIL player.
- 18:24Well, guess what? You got to be a four, four or
- 18:26five star recruit to get that money.
- 18:29That's the only way you're going to make that money in your first
- 18:30year. And if you don't do that well,
- 18:33you're not going to make that much money because the other
- 18:35players that were playing for the team for two or three years
- 18:38and they're decided to stay there are going to because they
- 18:41were such high recruits and they're still great players.
- 18:44They're going to make that money too.
- 18:45And you know, and Jabba and speedy, you know what still is
- 18:49the most important position even in college football?
- 18:52That's the quarterback. So you know, if that quarterback
- 18:55is a top recruit, A4 star recruit and he even if he he
- 18:59wasn't, if he's a great player, like we just said, Ward, the guy
- 19:02wasn't. I don't even think that when he
- 19:05was recruited he had any stars. I don't even.
- 19:07Think he was at. A.
- 19:09Yeah, he was at a HBCU, I think it was.
- 19:12It was somewhere out West. I think it was in Texas too,
- 19:15before he transferred to Washington State.
- 19:16I forgot the name of the school but he was at one of those HBCU
- 19:20schools or one of those like second tier Division One schools
- 19:23and I don't think he was even recruited.
- 19:25He was a zero star recruit as coach Mr. Fish says over here on
- 19:29the, you know, fan private chat. I, I will say this, the nil
- 19:34deals are going to be a problem. It's everybody says it.
- 19:38Look at Deion Sanders. He was cheating right off the
- 19:40bat when he went to Colorado. He's going to Saudi Arabia and
- 19:44trying to seek millions and millions of dollars from these
- 19:47Princess. How many people know that Saudi
- 19:50Arabia's Arabia is one of the biggest and most expensive
- 19:54countries and big profit countries in the world?
- 19:57Why? Because of their oil.
- 19:59That is why, ladies and gentlemen, so that you know
- 20:02Deion Sanders, Prime isn't stupid.
- 20:04So you know what Prime did? He went to the one place he
- 20:07thought nobody was going to discover where he was going to
- 20:10take money to the States and pay his players off.
- 20:13So Deion Sanders deserves my golf clap if we had one.
- 20:18Nevertheless, you look at the big picture here.
- 20:21I just look at the Maryland situation locks.
- 20:24He's going to say whatever he wants.
- 20:25Loxy's going to play complain like every other coach.
- 20:28Nick Saban decided to step down after, what, two years ago
- 20:32because he said, you know what, I don't want to deal with the
- 20:34NIL deals. Dabo Sweeney has been bitching
- 20:37and moaning about these NIL deals.
- 20:39But guess what? These college coaches are making
- 20:41millions and millions of dollars and making it off the recruiting
- 20:45classes they bring in and try to win national championships.
- 20:48So I'm not going to cry the river for any one of those guys
- 20:51like Dabo Sweeney, who's making 10 million, or even Nick Saban
- 20:55at one point that was making 13 million.
- 20:57James Franklin, I think. How about?
- 20:58Bill Belichick, what's that guy making right now?
- 21:01I mean, seriously? And he's not even running that
- 21:03team. His girlfriend is.
- 21:04His fiance is running that North Carolina team as she's flashing
- 21:09and dancing and making decisions for Bill Belichick that Bill
- 21:12Belichick knew knew nothing about it.
- 21:14So it just shows you the way college sports is moving.
- 21:18That's why Bill Belichick went to North Carolina.
- 21:21Don't get it twisted. It had nothing to do with his
- 21:23father because was his father coached there and had nothing to
- 21:26do with, hey, you know what, I'm going to run this organization
- 21:29to the and I'm going to win national championships.
- 21:31No, it's the money thing. He knows that the way he can
- 21:35recruit players is going and jumping from one hand to another
- 21:40and finding ways to get money to get the best recruiting,
- 21:44recruiting players in the country to come and play for
- 21:47him. And that's why he built and he
- 21:48doesn't have to deal with those pro players bitching and moaning
- 21:52and and game playing from one team to another.
- 21:54He doesn't really have to do that.
- 21:56You know what he has to do? All he's got to do is raise men.
- 21:59He is so used to doing that as he was raining, raising a lot of
- 22:03stupid asses over there in New England and still winning
- 22:06championships. So there's no lie about that.
- 22:09I just think, and again Fish and me went back and forth on this,
- 22:13the Nil deal really has brought open opportunity for these
- 22:18players to not only bring a generational money home to.
- 22:22Their in good in good and bad ways.
- 22:24Yes, yes, generational money that'll help their families in
- 22:28the long run, but it also brings problems when it comes like
- 22:32Jabba was saying, it brings problems on how do you decide or
- 22:36where do you decide the money will go and what program is.
- 22:41Especially when you go into a college like let's say LSU, they
- 22:43got a good baseball team, they got a good football team and
- 22:46they have a decent basketball team.
- 22:47Where does that money go if you have all these big recruiting
- 22:51classes every single year with great programs?
- 22:54Where does that money go where you can distinctly understand
- 22:58how it would work throughout every single season?
- 23:02Locksley has a point there. But Locksley shouldn't be
- 23:04bitching because this is a good problem to have.
- 23:07This is not a bad problem to have Speedy.
- 23:10No, it's not. It's not a bad problem.
- 23:11And also I think the approach that Locksley is saying it has
- 23:14to be something that a lot of these kind of second tier Power
- 23:175 schools are going to take on like you're doing with Maryland.
- 23:19Like you said, Maryland's not really known as a football
- 23:21school. They're not.
- 23:22They're a basketball, basketball school.
- 23:23They're a good lacrosse school. They're pretty.
- 23:25They're up and down with hockey, I think, but mainly basketball
- 23:28like you were saying, especially when they were in the ACC
- 23:30football. They had a, they've had a few
- 23:31good years recently, but again, they've never been known Again,
- 23:34it's a tough conference they're in, in the Big 10 E, they're
- 23:36playing with Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State, but
- 23:38still never really known for their football.
- 23:40And that's why I think you have to establish yourself when it
- 23:42comes to the recruiting aspect to get those five star recruits
- 23:45to want to come to a school like Maryland and make them pick
- 23:48Maryland over those Big 10 schools, over those other
- 23:51schools in that region, that ACC schools that could have a better
- 23:54football reputation. And that's why I think him
- 23:57having the dilemma of doing that last season when they were
- 23:59struggling did not make a lot of sense.
- 24:01I think you want to establish that for the five star players
- 24:04to not only do that, but also want to stay there.
- 24:07If there is going to be a turn around, get a bowl, bowl season,
- 24:10a six or seven win season. If there's going to be a turn
- 24:12around in that program, it's going to have to come with those
- 24:14five star recruits staying there and developing there.
- 24:17And like you're saying too, it's hard in football, especially
- 24:19when those rosters are triple the size of NFL rosters.
- 24:23It's over 100 on a college roster because a lot of them are
- 24:25red shirted. A lot of them are like
- 24:27transferred over and they can't play right away.
- 24:29And there's a lot of duplicate numbers I you look at the
- 24:31roster. So it's like almost double the
- 24:33size of an NFL roster. And depending on the type of
- 24:36program that you are, that means you're looking at more.
- 24:38Not all, not all of them are going to get.
- 24:40NI Well, if you're on the practice squad, you're if you're
- 24:42not a top recruit, so. Yeah, I would imagine not all of
- 24:45them are not even like maybe half of them are going to get.
- 24:47Nil, If you're a 4 1/2 or 4 *5 star recruit, you're going to be
- 24:51a starter or you're going to be right behind the starters, the
- 24:54backups to be their backups. There's no way you're going to
- 24:57be recruiting. You're going to say listen,
- 24:59you're going to be red shirted the first year.
- 25:01It used to be that way when I was deciding to go to Maine, New
- 25:04Hampshire in Niagara, I was told and I was one of the best United
- 25:08States. I was top, top 20 United States
- 25:10hockey player. When I was 17 years old.
- 25:13I decided to go to Niagara because I did not want to go to
- 25:17Maine in New Hampshire and be red shirted my first year
- 25:20because of some of the best play.
- 25:21Remember these, the New Hampshire and Maine at the time
- 25:24were two of the best college programs in the country.
- 25:27So they have all the top recruits from the year before
- 25:31and the year before playing college hockey.
- 25:33Because in the NHL you want to play four years before you even
- 25:37go to the NHL. No matter how high of a draft
- 25:39pick you are, you're probably playing at least three to four
- 25:43years before you decide, hey, I'm going to play juniors or
- 25:46hey, I'm going to play AHL hockey.
- 25:48So it's a different world, world with different sports like
- 25:52Jabba, AAA, AA, Single A, and if you get drafted, more than
- 25:56likely you're not playing college ball.
- 25:59As we all know, Garrett Cole. Garrett Cole was drafted by the
- 26:03New York Yankees and he decided, you know what, I'm going to play
- 26:06college ball. I am going to rebut that and I'm
- 26:10going to go and play for, if I'm not mistaken, UCL.
- 26:13AUCLA. Yeah.
- 26:15And then he then was a first round draft pick because the
- 26:18Yankees drafted him in the in the mid 20s.
- 26:21He goes back into the draft and he gets drafted by Pittsburgh
- 26:24and he was the number one pick, if I'm not mistaken.
- 26:26So we went from like in the 20s to all the way to the number
- 26:29one. And Garrett Cole is one of the
- 26:32best pitchers when healthy in all of baseball.
- 26:34So we all know the type of talent that he is.
- 26:37But at the time there were no NIL deals because if baseball
- 26:42had NIL deals at that time, I could tell you this, Steven
- 26:46Strasburg doesn't jump all the way to the major leagues as fast
- 26:49as he did. Rice, Harper, all these guys
- 26:52that went into the draft. How about this, do you think,
- 26:56and there is a quarterback in Kyla Murray, If there were NIL
- 27:00deals and he was as good of a baseball player like they say he
- 27:04was, do you think he goes to football or decides, hey, you
- 27:08know what, I could play 4 years of college for baseball and make
- 27:11more money doing that and then go into the major leagues.
- 27:15He was a top what, 10 first round draft.
- 27:17Pick if I was a 6th pick by. The end?
- 27:19Hold on, Harold Cole was drafted in the first round out of high
- 27:22school. Yeah, I know.
- 27:24That he decided not, No. You said 20th.
- 27:28What? He was drafted 28th in the first
- 27:30round. Yes, that's what I mean.
- 27:31He was in the 20s still. A first round, yeah, it was a
- 27:34first round pick and then he decided I want to go.
- 27:37I know he's drafted out of high school and then he had to he
- 27:40wanted to decide if he's going to play college ball or play for
- 27:42the Yankees and he decided he wanted to go play college ball.
- 27:46So he rebutted the the draft and the Yankees got an extra first
- 27:50round draft pick because Garrett Cole decided to go back to to go
- 27:53play for UCLA. The fact is, at the time,
- 27:57Garrett Cole was a Yankee and that's why the Yankees were
- 28:00gunning for him when Houston was fighting to give him another
- 28:03contract and it's extend him. The Yankees grabbed the guy that
- 28:07Brian Cashman drafted years before he decided to go play
- 28:10college ball. What I'm saying here is you're
- 28:13going to see that NIL deals are going to drive these young kids
- 28:17to decide, hey, you know what? I don't know what I'm going to
- 28:20do as a pro. I could still make generational
- 28:23type of money playing college sports.
- 28:26And if I make a pro team, I still get a full scholarship.
- 28:30I'm still making millions of dollars as a as as a college
- 28:34player. I got nothing to worry about.
- 28:37The NFL, the NBA, the MLB, the NHL, that's all A+ to me.
- 28:42When I move forward after four years of college, this will push
- 28:45kids to decide, hey, you know what?
- 28:46I'll play my 4 years of college. I'm not going to rush into
- 28:50playing professional sports because I'm making them money.
- 28:52I understand that, but Speedy, you brought up something about
- 28:55the NIL money and you know, these five star guys wanting to
- 28:59keep them for four years. This is what I hate about the
- 29:01transfer portal because what like and you brought this up
- 29:04when you brought up Saban and raising young men and Belichick,
- 29:07right. Well, are we truly raising young
- 29:10men? Because if you say and let's
- 29:13let's do this as a commitment to anything you do in life.
- 29:16And when it gets harder, if you don't like it or you can go make
- 29:19more money. Oh, I'm just going to leave.
- 29:21Are we truly raising young men where, hey, I can go and make
- 29:25more money or hey, I didn't get the money I thought, or I didn't
- 29:28get the playing time. I can just leave and go Willy
- 29:31nilly. So are we really raising young
- 29:33men in the aspect of them, in their morale?
- 29:37Are we just making them good business people?
- 29:40Those are two different things. They go hand in hand.
- 29:44But if this gets hard, I don't get any playing time.
- 29:47Let me go take an extra year. I don't have to sit out.
- 29:50I can maybe go make a little bit of money, but oh, I'm not
- 29:54playing. So I'm going to leave because I
- 29:56don't like it. Wham, Wham.
- 29:58Well, if you don't like it, play better.
- 30:00So are we truly raising young men?
- 30:02Are we raising young businessmen and women?
- 30:05Well, and I you go back to this and and again going back to the
- 30:08NIL, DO's we go back to the coaches and what the coaches
- 30:11stand for. Is it good for the player to see
- 30:14the coaches? Hey, you know what somebody's
- 30:16offering me from 7 million to 13 million?
- 30:18I'm I'm the reason why you're making all that money.
- 30:21I'm the reason why you're ranked in the top ten in all of the
- 30:24country. I'm the reason why you're up for
- 30:26a national championship. OK.
- 30:28So if that's the case, they they're getting that money based
- 30:31upon projection and that's let's that's any draft, right?
- 30:34Like that's we're not we're not talking crazy in that.
- 30:37But also when it comes down to it, OK, we're offering say it.
- 30:42Let's just use 10 million as an example, just an EV number.
- 30:46OK, you're a five star coming in and you kind of touched on this
- 30:48a little bit and you come in and you aren't a five star, OK,
- 30:53you're going to get a signing bonus, but now you're not
- 30:56getting all of that money. That's where I think you were
- 30:59trying to get into like, OK, you come in, you haven't played a
- 31:03snap in college football. We're talking SEC where they're
- 31:05getting the big money. Nebraska is one of the top ten
- 31:08schools of NIL money just because you have all these rich
- 31:10farmers from western Nebraska. We have the most, We have the
- 31:13most billionaires per capita. I'm going to say Viola nil deal
- 31:18was pretty big I'm pretty sure. But yeah, but you got to forget
- 31:21they're not, they're just adding monetary.
- 31:23They're not adding the apartment that he got, the free cars that
- 31:26he gets. That's on top of everything.
- 31:29And so for me, it's like, and you touched on it where it's
- 31:33like, OK, you haven't played a snap.
- 31:36So you come in and you're this guy, right?
- 31:39Well, now you're not that guy and you got benched.
- 31:42Oh, you still expect that money? That's where it comes in.
- 31:45Are we raising men? Are you raising young
- 31:48businessmen and women? OK, because now he doesn't like
- 31:50it. He can go to another school and
- 31:52make money. What choice do you have for a
- 31:55program like Maryland, though? If you're getting, if you're not
- 31:57getting, if you're getting stagnant with football, they've
- 32:00made some few bowl games. Fish were showing the highlights
- 32:02of the the Mayo Bowl game or the mayonnaise.
- 32:04Stuff they've made, they've more and more bowl games than us, no.
- 32:07I know that. That's what I'm saying.
- 32:07Like a lot of those programs really don't have that kind of
- 32:10choice. You'd be able to just shy that
- 32:12away. Otherwise you end up with
- 32:13coaches like Davos Sweeney that are just to be anti transfer
- 32:16portal and a program like Clemson, maybe you can get away
- 32:19with that because they have a good reputation.
- 32:20A program like Maryland cannot get away.
- 32:22With do you cap it per team or do you cap it like do you tear
- 32:26it like OK, 5432 or do you like, OK, this sport gets this because
- 32:33obviously we know the footballs and the basketballs are the
- 32:35money driven sports, right? For us, it's not really like
- 32:39we're a different. We're a volleyball school and
- 32:41you know, we've got decent basketball, nothing, nothing
- 32:43crazy, crazy good. But you know, we get good
- 32:46attendance, obviously have great NIL and we get some decent
- 32:49players, don't get me wrong, but we're a volleyball school and a
- 32:52football school and most are football, basketball and and
- 32:56then there's football, baseball. It's it's it's kind of all over
- 32:58the place. But my question is do do we cap
- 33:01it per player wise? And I and speedy, I get what
- 33:04you're saying. It's like some of these schools
- 33:06don't have the opportunity. But then you got like Oklahoma
- 33:09State or somebody like that that has Boone pickings that just
- 33:12gives billions of dollars. Mind you, he's passed away, but
- 33:14you know, his his trust and his family.
- 33:17So I don't know the right. Do you do you do it because then
- 33:20it's kind of unfair? Do you make it like a luxury tax
- 33:23where it becomes like, OK, this school gets if it goes above
- 33:26this mount, then a Division One mid major like a South Dakota
- 33:31state or something around like I'm just thinking around here
- 33:34where it's like then it goes, it trickles down.
- 33:38I just don't know the right answer of of how to succumb
- 33:40that. I think the NCAA will obviously
- 33:44win the new rules and, and the transformation of where the NCAA
- 33:49is going to go with the NIL deals in the next three to four
- 33:52years. They're going to have some kind
- 33:53of plan. I'm sure a lot of different
- 33:56schools and programs, top schools and programs are going
- 33:58to find ways where it'll make it easier to get the recruiting
- 34:02players that they want because everybody knows and, and, and
- 34:05it's the truth depending on the sport that top ten schools to
- 34:09play basketball, the top ten schools to play football, the
- 34:12top ten schools to play baseball and the top ten schools to play
- 34:15hockey. So, and then volleyball and then
- 34:18lacrosse. Schools that are giving the
- 34:20money, no matter. What so if you know that they're
- 34:23they're the tops of of their programs in those areas, that's
- 34:28where the money is going to probably be divided out with
- 34:31those schools like Duke is not known for the football, even
- 34:34though they've had guys like Riley Leonard, they've had
- 34:37players come out. Obviously there's yeah, Danny
- 34:41Dimes that came from the organization.
- 34:43Well, the program. And then you look at what do
- 34:45they know for? They know for their lacrosse,
- 34:46which is one of the best in the country every single year, and
- 34:49their basketball, the Duke Blue Devils, which has really been a
- 34:53powerhouse since Coach K went there.
- 34:55So then you're looking, OK, where do I, I want to go and
- 34:58play for a top collegiate school where I'm going to get a great
- 35:01degree. I'm going to Duke because their
- 35:04program is telling you right now that you're probably going to
- 35:07elite 8:00 every single year or Sweet 16 every single year,
- 35:10Definitely a tournament and their their college lacrosse
- 35:13team always wins. They've won five national
- 35:16championships in like 1213 years.
- 35:19So that that's where you want to go.
- 35:21If you're going to Duke, those are the two programs you're
- 35:24going to jump into. It's about it's about money.
- 35:26And I know fish is going to go into this too, because it to me,
- 35:30it's not about how you divide it out.
- 35:32It it's when you look at these players and the type of
- 35:35recruiting players they are, is lacrosse that big of an
- 35:38important sport to go and watch? Is that going to bring a lot of
- 35:41money to, you know, the the program?
- 35:43No, the two programs, like you were saying, Jabba, that really
- 35:48drives those schools is the basketball program and the
- 35:51football program. Football being #1 basketball
- 35:53being #2 that's a fact. Go look at it.
- 35:56Go look at it. Even you look at the NBA in the
- 35:58NFL right now and why they're bringing in so much 10s of
- 36:01millions of dollars through sponsors and endorsements and
- 36:04all that other stuff. It's because of what those
- 36:07sports, those sports bring back, bring back worldwide.
- 36:11Now football is big in England. They might have an English team,
- 36:15maybe in the future. Germany, we saw our first
- 36:18Germany game a couple of years ago with Tom Brady.
- 36:21Remember that? Australia, Brazil, the first
- 36:25game of the season this past year, last year, I I think if I
- 36:28was a mistake, it was Green Bay and somebody else.
- 36:30Yeah, Philly. And that was when, if I, if I'm
- 36:33not mistaken, Love got hurt. He got hurt.
- 36:36Now have. They done one in London?
- 36:38Or was that baseball? They've done it a couple of
- 36:41times, and he's both on London, too.
- 36:42The Jaguars are an organization that might want to their owner
- 36:46is from he's foreign, he's a billionaire, and he's always
- 36:50wanted to move the Jacksonville Jaguars to England.
- 36:52Owns Premier League teams over there as well.
- 36:55I've always thought the perfect name if they move there is the
- 36:58London Knights. Wouldn't that be just I could
- 37:01see the jersey, I could see the merch.
- 37:03It just is like perfect. I I, I can't believe no one's
- 37:05taken that before. I I was in a Madden franchise
- 37:08with my brother and the chargers move and became nuts.
- 37:11That's interesting. I I would imagine it would look
- 37:13like a chess piece or something like that.
- 37:15You know what I mean? And you know what I would have?
- 37:17You know what I would have as a my logo?
- 37:19I would have the sword in the stone.
- 37:21That's what I would have. I like that.
- 37:23See, there's so much merch you can get out of it.
- 37:25Makes so much sense. I mean, there's only so many
- 37:27people who really love Jaguars, I think out there.
- 37:30But this whole thing, Errol, we were talking about earlier
- 37:35today, you've mentioned a couple of times.
- 37:37I just see this as like the coach getting really frustrated
- 37:40like all right, so I've got star players they have to get paid.
- 37:44Then I have starters, they have to get paid.
- 37:46But those starters, a bunch of them were two star and three
- 37:48star guys that developed and now they're going into their senior
- 37:52year. So they need to get paid, but I
- 37:54can't pay all of them because I also need to pay the freshman
- 37:58quarterback coming in. I got to pay these backup that,
- 38:00you know, the six foot seven £400 lineman who can't play at
- 38:04all right now, but I got to pay them because I'm going to
- 38:07develop them. So now this guy when or other
- 38:09guys like a red shirt freshman, you know, five star guy who's
- 38:13not playing this year is walking around campus flaunting money
- 38:17and you're a starter on the team and you're looking like a punk
- 38:21and he's probably talking shit about you too because he's got
- 38:24this money and you don't. So what's going to happen?
- 38:27You're going to transfer out of there, right?
- 38:29You're going to go where you can be big dog on campus.
- 38:32So now all these teams are going to lose their mid tier pieces,
- 38:35their depth and all they're going to have is a bunch of
- 38:38really good players and a bunch of guys that aren't there yet.
- 38:41And you're going to have these locker room issues.
- 38:42You're going to see a completely fall apart.
- 38:45This Maryland program. This guy is gone as a head coach
- 38:48if he can't figure this out this year.
- 38:49I mean, the fact that he admitted it as very brave of
- 38:52him. I think it very stand up guy to
- 38:53say like, you know, I screwed up.
- 38:55This is why I did not know how to handle it.
- 38:57And he said, I'll put my, my, my desk in the locker room.
- 39:01He's not going to let anyone talk about money in the locker
- 39:03room. He's going to try to make up.
- 39:04I don't know if that works either, though.
- 39:06Like that's, that's like, how are you going to get people to
- 39:08stop talking about this? It's you can't stop talking
- 39:11about it. I don't know.
- 39:12I mean, Jabba in the pros, I would imagine it's a little
- 39:16different, you know, as far as the professionalism of talking
- 39:18about it, but I'm sure you still see some of that, right?
- 39:21Yeah. I mean you do obviously I think
- 39:24it's a little bit different because there's I mean there's a
- 39:28lot of obviously the USA TODAY everybody's opening salaries is
- 39:32on opening day. So you can kind of see
- 39:34everybody. I mean the thing that probably
- 39:36is the only difference is endorsements and that's about
- 39:39it. But I think more so on the on
- 39:43the college side is you do see that two or three guy that is
- 39:46like, OK, well, I've earned my right.
- 39:48Like I was only getting, you know, 10 grand or 20 grand.
- 39:53And now, you know, you're bringing in, you know, this kid
- 39:56that hasn't done anything. And I've proven and we've gotten
- 39:582 bowl games. Why I've been here.
- 40:00Why are you going to give him, you know, 500 grand and I'm
- 40:03still only getting 10. So I can see it But and it it's
- 40:07just harder and I. I've tried to learn as much as I
- 40:11could about the nil and it's still still all kind of over the
- 40:14place as far as like logistics and how it works.
- 40:19So I don't know if it's public. I don't know if you can go and
- 40:22look and you. Were saying before Java like how
- 40:26are they going to distribute them to good programs versus
- 40:28like the most profitable sports. Right.
- 40:30And it's like it's like, OK, yeah, you have profitable in one
- 40:33sport. I don't know the balance.
- 40:34I don't know the right answer, but I think it's tough too,
- 40:37because that like fish, that's a great question because like the
- 40:41unknown is like, is this dude really making the 300 grand that
- 40:44I heard? Or is, you know, that just
- 40:46hearsay. You still got guys like still
- 40:48growing up, they're still teenagers.
- 40:50So I mean, that's a big deal. Like once you're in the big
- 40:52leagues, it's like, hey, I'm here, I'm making good money.
- 40:55Obviously some guys are making crazy money, but you're like,
- 40:58I'm doing all right. The NIL deals also, even though
- 41:01there's a certain amount of money that you can dish out to
- 41:03certain a certain one of these players and superstar players
- 41:06that they're going to bring up or bring in either through the
- 41:09portal or through, you know, recruiting them.
- 41:12They're they're still money going to be pitched under the
- 41:14table. And I don't care what anybody
- 41:16says, there's still going to be crooked owner, you know, crooked
- 41:21schools that are going to have the coaches do it or they're
- 41:24going to have somebody handing, handing these kids some kind of
- 41:28money where everything that they're like probably not
- 41:31getting because the team, the school's get saying, you know
- 41:34what, we're going to give it to this guy and we're going to give
- 41:37you some money under the table. That to me is going to be
- 41:40something that the NCAA is going to have to look at too in the
- 41:43future. Because that it's not only going
- 41:46to be the big recruiting schools, it's going to be the
- 41:48smaller ones. Because that is more likely to
- 41:51happen in the smaller schools. Knowing that they're going to be
- 41:55able to dish that kind of money and try to get a top tight end
- 41:58or a top quarterback or whatever they decide they think is best
- 42:02for their school and and winning or trying to win a ball game.
- 42:05Because remember, every time you go and play in a ball game, when
- 42:07it comes to college football, you'll automatically, if I'm not
- 42:10mistaken, making $10 million. Yeah, I think the conference
- 42:13gets a percentage too, which is going to incentive for football
- 42:16programs, other sports to be able to grow that way too.
- 42:19Jeff was saying to like a certain types of bowl games.
- 42:22Depending on the level of bowl games, we'll get a certain
- 42:24amount of money as. Well, it's a it's a good
- 42:26argument to where the NIL is going to go.
- 42:28And obviously they're going to have to sit down and decide how
- 42:31this money's going to be divvied out or how this portal thing
- 42:35that they have right now, which everybody is using.
- 42:38Because I want to go play on play with Deion Sanders.
- 42:40And then after that, you don't like Deion, I want to go and be
- 42:43coached by Davos Sweeney or one of these other guys.
- 42:46I want to go to Georgia. I want to go to Tennessee
- 42:48because they're a great program and I love the coach.
- 42:50Or I want to go and be coached by Bill Belichick's wife or
- 42:53fiance, future wife, and like to look at that, those tits and ass
- 42:57for the next couple of years. I wouldn't mind that.
- 42:59Maybe she's got some friends for me.
- 43:01If I'm a five star, don't. Tell, don't tell Catherine that.
- 43:07I mean, we know that. We know that's part of it, too.
- 43:10Right. Hey, I can I this and
- 43:11everything. I won't drop names, but we had a
- 43:13house that you went to when you when it was recruiting weekend.
- 43:17I wonder what Java it's true what you were doing there.
- 43:19Everybody does. Hey Java, I asked AI to show us
- 43:26what the Nebraska rich businessmen look like and it
- 43:29came up with this for us. Nice, sounds about right.
- 43:37The Corn Mafia. The corn.
- 43:39Is there actually a Corn Mafia? Is there really?
- 43:42I, I would assume all those farmers in western Nebraska, I,
- 43:46I don't necessarily know, but like if you, if you cross, like
- 43:50if you try to like cross pollinate, like, and like get
- 43:53over and somebody's like, it could be a row of whether it's
- 43:56beans or corn or wheat or barley.
- 44:00Like it's, yeah, it's, it's fighting words.
- 44:02Like I got a buddy his, they, they farm 21,000 acres.
- 44:07And so yeah, it's those. What'd you say?
- 44:09About my barley, Yeah. What did you say about my
- 44:12barley? Speaking and the best part is
- 44:15one of one of my good buddies in in western Nebraska.
- 44:18He works for a financial company as and literally they meet every
- 44:22morning for coffee and he just manages their money.
- 44:25That's all he does. They meet every morning for
- 44:27coffee and their average eight. Well, he's he's 4048 and he took
- 44:33over for a good friend of mine's dad who retired and he was like
- 44:378, like 80. And he's like, yeah, these dudes
- 44:40are like 848180. And he goes.
- 44:43We sit and have coffee every morning and talk about what we
- 44:46need to do. Coffee.
- 44:48It's coffee. It's.
- 44:50Coffee. It's coffee.
- 44:51Coffee. And now, ladies and gentlemen,
- 44:53our deuce of the day. The deuce of the day.
- 44:57You log? Not a log.
- 44:58I don't have a log. But all right, ladies and
- 45:08gentlemen, my deuce of the day has to go to the Pittsburgh
- 45:11Steelers, an organization that are absolutely out there when it
- 45:15comes to deciding who they're going to pay or who they're
- 45:20trading for. An organization that never went
- 45:22out there and bought a wide receiver, or did they recently
- 45:27as they traded for one in DK Metcalf?
- 45:30An organization that has said many times over the years that
- 45:34their coaches are players coaches but one of them can't
- 45:38get out of the first round and players coaches don't really win
- 45:41games. Or the same organization that
- 45:45had the best player in the league besides a quarterback and
- 45:50waited till really camps open up to pay him.
- 45:54What does that smell? Well, it smells.
- 45:57It smells a lot like garbage dump or whatever you want to say
- 46:01and you're mixed up in one. The fact is, DJ Watt has been
- 46:05the best player in the league. Not a quarterback in the last
- 46:10three seasons has been untouchable.
- 46:13When people were comparing obviously Micah Parsons to him
- 46:16and Miles Garrett to him and all these pass rushers, none of them
- 46:20touched the numbers of this man. When you look at the beginning
- 46:25of the offseason, who got the money first?
- 46:28Miles Garrett as Miles Garrett, as good as Miles Garrett is, and
- 46:32by the way, was the number one pick in the first round, what,
- 46:365-6, seven years ago? Same draft as TJ Watt.
- 46:39OK TJ Watt who was drafted 30 is considered a better all around
- 46:45player PPRPPF whatever you want to do it al your algorithms on
- 46:51YouTube and all that other garbage.
- 46:54The fact that Pittsburgh waited this long to pay this man a
- 46:59three-year 42 and a half, $1,000,000 contract tells me
- 47:02they're a dumb organization and almost lost the best player
- 47:06they've had really since I I would say Ben Roethlisberger if
- 47:10you really ask me. So I it just tells me Han gets a
- 47:15extended contract. You're going to pay this guy and
- 47:18give him an extended contract for all the garbage he has put
- 47:22together over the last couple years.
- 47:23They haven't won anything. They I haven't even been into an
- 47:25AFC title game. And how long this has been a
- 47:28joke, an organization, it going to keep that idiot in office.
- 47:32To me, it only smells like crap. And that's why I'm going to give
- 47:36him the deuce of the day. It there's no way you could sit
- 47:39here and tell me that this organization knows what they're
- 47:43doing and Mike Tomlin could be on his way out at the end of the
- 47:47season if he doesn't know how to control this worthless, no good
- 47:51quarterback who has come out numerous amount of time saying
- 47:55that he could still be an elite quarterback in the league.
- 47:57So that's my deuce of the day. Pittsburgh Steelers stupid
- 48:01organization even Dumber bringing in DK Metcalf and it's
- 48:04going to come back and backhand them right in the face.
- 48:08Let me ask you guys a question. You look at this is just the
- 48:13facts here. They traded a wide receiver to
- 48:17the Cowboys, OK, And he is a he's a really good wide
- 48:21receiver. Couldn't control him.
- 48:23Mike Tomlin has always said that he's a player's coach, but could
- 48:25never control he's he's big personalities.
- 48:28Couldn't control Le'veon Bell, couldn't control obviously
- 48:32Santonio Holmes over the years, couldn't control any of those
- 48:36guys, even Antonio Brown. And this organization decides to
- 48:41trade a guy that they can't control for another guy that was
- 48:45crying and complaining in Seattle because he wasn't making
- 48:49enough. I mean, come on.
- 48:51Did that to me. You're just bringing in another
- 48:53problem. And then to top it all off,
- 48:56you're bringing the biggest problem and the biggest mouth in
- 48:58professional football. Ask Pat McAfee and Aaron
- 49:02Rodgers. He just really liked that
- 49:03ayahuasca. It it doesn't make sense.
- 49:05And now they're giving this guy Han an extended contract.
- 49:09Is that his name? Han.
- 49:10Omar Khan? No, he wasn't the GM the whole
- 49:13time, but he again, the Steelers have not won a playoff game in
- 49:16TJ Watt's career. I don't care how long he's been
- 49:19there. You give him an extension when
- 49:22this is an organization with all this talent when it comes to
- 49:25defense and they can't get out of the first round.
- 49:28Look at the teams that have beaten them over the last 8-8
- 49:31years. They were.
- 49:32They were better than practically 5 or six of those
- 49:35teams, and they lost. Not against Buffalo.
- 49:38I'm not going to talk about that.
- 49:39Yeah. But they want 48 points to the
- 49:42Blake Bortles LED Jaguar. It's embarrassing.
- 49:45It is embarrassing. And I'm not going to sit here
- 49:47and beat around the Bush. And nobody honestly out there
- 49:50would actually believe that they're a smart organization
- 49:54because they're not. And there are not many smart
- 49:56organizations. I remember when they Pittsburgh
- 49:59was looked at, it was one of the smart ones and so were the
- 50:01Giants. Over the last couple of years.
- 50:03Would you put the Giants in the Pittsburgh Steelers on the top?
- 50:06Not a chance in hell. I put Philadelphia, I put Kansas
- 50:10City. Philadelphia has been a laughing
- 50:12stock when it came to executives and organizations of the way
- 50:16they're run. Look at how how they run right
- 50:18now. Yeah, the the Eagles, like maybe
- 50:20two years in a row, they'll, they'll be bad and they, they
- 50:23bounce back quickly. The Giants have never recovered.
- 50:25No. And that you want.
- 50:26You don't want to know why. And all you giant fans, here's
- 50:29where it's going to sink really deep into your brains.
- 50:32It was a coach that won two of them that surprised the New
- 50:37England Patriots not once, but twice, and beat them undefeated.
- 50:42Tom friggin Coughlin, That was the reason why your team fell
- 50:48flat on their ass, because they decided, hey, we're not going to
- 50:53give him the defensive players we want because we want Ben
- 50:55McAdoo. Wonderful move for the New York
- 50:58Giants. Wonderful move for John Mara,
- 51:01who, by the way, was right again about Saquon Barkley.
- 51:04You're going to treat him in the same division?
- 51:06I mean, you're going to let him go to a team in the same
- 51:08division? What are you nuts?
- 51:10And what did he do? He almost broke Eric Dickerson's
- 51:13record and wins the Super Bowl and was arguably the best player
- 51:18throughout the Super Bowl of the playoffs all season.
- 51:21So it just tells you one thing, Your owner's smart, but not
- 51:25smart enough. Don't worry, we gave Darius
- 51:26Slayton the same money this offseason.
- 51:28Oh yeah. Oh, that was another one.
- 51:30Oh what a joke. The guy that people and giant
- 51:33fans compared to Odell Beckham. Maybe we started with Tyler
- 51:36Harrison. What a joke.
- 51:38Oh my God, the Giants. I will say this, the quarterback
- 51:41they drafted in the first round looks pretty good.
- 51:43It looks pretty good. I've been watching some video
- 51:46and watching some footage about him and and what they're saying
- 51:50about him. Hey, if the Giants get a home
- 51:53run from him, even if they're wrong about the defensive line
- 51:56because he can't stay healthy from Penn State or any one of
- 51:59those guys, if they're right about that quarterback and they
- 52:02traded up and they got him the way they did and he becomes
- 52:05something special. Oh, my God.
- 52:07Yeah. Jackson Dart If.
- 52:09If if something if that works out for them.
- 52:12Oh what a freaking home run that is.
- 52:14Guess who that's going to make look bad?
- 52:15The Steelers, who also could have drafted him at #20.
- 52:18Listen, I mean Dart did. His first pass in camp was a
- 52:22pick 6. And what I've heard.
- 52:24That did happen. And what I've heard over the
- 52:27last couple of weeks and him practicing, he's the he's
- 52:30already the leader of that team. He's one of the top three
- 52:33leaders of that team, yeah. They will actually had to come
- 52:36out and say that Wilson was the quarterback, yes, because
- 52:39there's so much steam for Dart and he's so far ahead.
- 52:42Like in those intangible qualities and people realize.
- 52:45Well, first, we don't, we don't want, we don't want Jackson Dart
- 52:47learning leadership skills from Russell Wilson because we know
- 52:49how that went down. I'm just, I'm just telling you
- 52:51what I think. And I think that obviously when
- 52:54you look at the big picture and you look at the Giants, I mean
- 52:58this your GM has been an absolute debacle.
- 53:01But if they get it right with Jackson Dart, I mean, everything
- 53:06could go away. He could everything, all that
- 53:08goes away if Jackson Dart becomes a superstar player in
- 53:12this league. So I'm not saying that he is,
- 53:14but I've heard a lot of good things about him, you know, over
- 53:17the years, you know, when The Jets draft the quarterback, you
- 53:19hear all these mumblings are this guy's he's not really as
- 53:22good as what they they say he is.
- 53:24He hasn't looked good in practice.
- 53:26Everything I've heard about Jackson Dart is he looks very
- 53:29special and he's already one of the top three team leaders of
- 53:33that Giant team, even over the veterans.
- 53:35So says a lot about him. And and I like the fact that
- 53:39he's taking charge and and he believes that he's going to be
- 53:42the the Giants quarterback for the future.
- 53:44So I I mean, if you're a giant fan, which I'm not, I can't
- 53:47stand the organization. You should be happy.
- 53:49We'll see if it works out for them.
- 53:50I, I hope obviously our quarterback is the real deal
- 53:54and, and the The Jets figure him out and turn him into something
- 53:57special. Carl doesn't believe so.
- 53:58Well, that's why Carl is Niffen's worst nightmare or
- 54:03Niffen is Carl's worst nightmare.
- 54:05Carl. Plays with himself.
- 54:06As we all know, yeah. Because Carl's the expert.
- 54:08I know a great quarterback play as a Bears fan.
- 54:10The only team that's ever thrown 4000 yards in a season.
- 54:14Even the Browns have. Thrown 4000.
- 54:15Yards of the season. We all know that things happen
- 54:18for a reason and maybe the Giants get a slam dunk.
- 54:22If you're a dime fan, you should be happy about that.
- 54:24As a Jet fan, I want to see them be pulverized.
- 54:26I want to see Jackson Duck running for his life three years
- 54:29from now when he plays the New York Jets.
- 54:30Cuz that's what we pray to God it was going to happen.
- 54:33By the way, did you hear that Will McDonald gained 15 lbs in
- 54:38the offseason? He looks really, really good and
- 54:42a lot of different things that I've heard is he looks even
- 54:45faster than he did last year, as big as he is.
- 54:47Could you? Imagine was always his problem.
- 54:48He was 239 coming out of the draft.
- 54:50That's 15. Pounds of muscle.
- 54:52That's good, yeah. 15 lbs of muscle and what I've heard
- 54:55through the coaching staff is he looks like a beast.
- 54:58He looked and and and they're saying that James Jermaine
- 55:01Johnson could be back a lot sooner than they saying that he
- 55:04could be. Thank you again.
- 55:06We'll be back on Monday. Speedy, who will you have?
- 55:08On joining the show, thanks to Nathan for getting him. 9:45
- 55:11will be a former Ray's Rockies. A couple other teams I don't
- 55:14forget offhand. Ray's Rockies relief pitcher
- 55:16Jake McGee will be joining us. Jake.
- 55:18McGee solid there. You go.
- 55:20Jake, good stuff. Yes, that'll be fun.
- 55:23A little a little speedy. Little left-hander.
- 55:26Yeah, little left-hander who likes to blow loads, as we all
- 55:29know. Anyways, thank you again.
- 55:31We really appreciate it. The fans.
- 55:33Thank you to Blue Wire. Think, oh, I just hit myself in
- 55:36the crotch. Oh, that hurts.
- 55:38Oh man. How the hell did you do that?
- 55:41I put my hand up and I slapped down and it hit me right in
- 55:44between my legs. That hurts.
- 55:45The karma for the angry dragon stuff.
- 55:47Yeah, it was definitely calm up, but Oh my God, I'm feeling it
- 55:50down my leg right now. Anyways, thank you to the fans.
- 55:54We'll be back on Monday. Until then, have a good weekend.
- 55:57And by the way, here we go, A1 and A2 and A3.
- 56:03Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday.
- 56:13To you. All right, Speedy, happy 30th.
- 56:41We love you. Thank you very much.
- 56:43Thank you very much. As Elvis always says and he says
- 56:47got to go. Goodnight.
- 56:48It is the worldwide sports radio network.
