- 0:00Anthony explored a variety of ideas for his escape, but eventually all of his brainstorming
- 0:09led to a pretty wild idea.
- 0:12One just wild enough to work maybe.
- 0:15I was like, "God damn!
- 0:18This man is determined, and you know what?
- 0:20He's really determined that his escape should involve a Jet Ski, which I mean, I get it.
- 0:26They're cool!"
- 0:27He's like, "God damn it, I had a dream!"
- 0:30And it will not be crushed.
- 0:32I must have the Jet Ski.
- 0:35Hi, Cassie.
- 0:41Hi, Caitlyn.
- 0:42Hi, creepy people.
- 0:44Hello!
- 0:45Hello!
- 0:46If you're new to our creepy corner of the world, this is PNW Haunts and Homicides, where we chat about true crime,
- 0:55the paranormal, my wedding shoes, and all things creepy in the Pacific Northwest.
- 1:01All of those are very true.
- 1:03You know what else is true?
- 1:04What?
- 1:05We also do a tarot reading at the end of every episode.
- 1:08That is true.
- 1:09We just want a little deeper insight into whatever we're talking about.
- 1:13It's fun.
- 1:14We like it.
- 1:15Yeah.
- 1:16And we do have some business.
- 1:19We just discovered.
- 1:20Didn't we?
- 1:21We found it.
- 1:22We decided.
- 1:23Yeah, I think we have a little bit of business.
- 1:24Okay, so the business is that if you'd like to come see us at True Crime Fest Northwest,
- 1:34then you can use our code HAUNTS10, and you'll get 10% off your ticket.
- 1:41Okay, so should we get into the episode?
- 1:45Do we say anything else about it?
- 1:47Like, you definitely want to come see us because we'll have like the wheel spinning.
- 1:51Oh, probably.
- 1:53It'll have many tarot readings.
- 1:54We'll be there.
- 1:55You can get a picture with us.
- 1:56We'll autograph something for you because we're so famous, you guys.
- 2:02She's really having fun with that.
- 2:05Okay, I just think it's cute because like we've actually had people like that wanted our autograph in a picture.
- 2:10I thought it was really sweet.
- 2:12Yeah.
- 2:13If you do want that, that would, you can have it.
- 2:15And then we'll melt and simply float away.
- 2:17And we'll probably talk to you too long and you'll never be able to get away from us.
- 2:21Yeah.
- 2:22And you'll be like, wow, you're not that famous.
- 2:25I'm just like meeting our creepy people.
- 2:28I love it.
- 2:29So yeah, we'll have that one of stickers.
- 2:31We usually have free stickers floating about.
- 2:34It's so many goodies.
- 2:36Good time, good time.
- 2:37It's always a good time.
- 2:38No, no, do we have balloons this time?
- 2:40What are we doing?
- 2:41Doing it up?
- 2:42I haven't decided what the table is going to look like exactly.
- 2:48But yeah.
- 2:49Maybe I don't know.
- 2:51Balloons at a true crime first.
- 2:53Do people do that?
- 2:54I don't know.
- 2:55We did it once before.
- 2:56Yeah.
- 2:57I don't know.
- 2:58We'll see.
- 2:59I've got a couple of ideas and we've done a couple of setups now for conventions.
- 3:06So we have some goodies already hanging out in storage bins.
- 3:13And I don't know.
- 3:14We fun with that.
- 3:16Yeah.
- 3:17Yeah.
- 3:18And for sure, we've got a black table cloth.
- 3:21That we do.
- 3:23We actually have quite a few of them.
- 3:26And a runner with our artwork on it.
- 3:28Yeah.
- 3:29Those will be present and accounted for.
- 3:32Yeah.
- 3:33And the wheel.
- 3:34Always the wheel unless someone lost it.
- 3:37I know right where it is actually.
- 3:39On the left side.
- 3:40On the left side.
- 3:41Right side.
- 3:42Right side.
- 3:43Because L.
- 3:46And this is L.
- 3:50She looks like she's trying to land a plane.
- 3:55Which is my right.
- 3:57I could land a plane because I would land them incorrectly.
- 4:01Because I don't know my left for my right.
- 4:03Honestly, it kind of seems like it's pretty Loosey Goosey on the airlines these days.
- 4:10Is it?
- 4:11I don't know.
- 4:12It seems like it should be real strict.
- 4:14Yeah.
- 4:15No, it seems like it should be sometimes the doors that you didn't know were doors.
- 4:20Just fly off the plane.
- 4:22Oh.
- 4:23Is this a relating trip episode today?
- 4:25Not today.
- 4:26Oh.
- 4:27I trust me, you guys.
- 4:28I've been tracking all of the stuff that's going on with Boeing.
- 4:31And I just, I haven't felt ready to go there yet.
- 4:37But there's probably going to be a part two of that.
- 4:41Because, you know, here's the thing.
- 4:43If they stop giving so much material, then like maybe, maybe, maybe there won't be.
- 4:50But yeah, there's already enough.
- 4:53Oh, there's already enough.
- 4:55I don't like it.
- 4:56I don't like any of that.
- 4:57I love to travel and it makes me never want to get on a plane.
- 5:00I'm just going to buy a bus and it's going to be my life.
- 5:04Yeah, it makes me a little bit nervous.
- 5:06So I'm thinking about doing some international travel for 2025 and holy shit.
- 5:12Don't go over any oceans.
- 5:14That's like all of the places.
- 5:17I know.
- 5:18You'll be fine.
- 5:19Fuck it, you fuck.
- 5:21Everyone's fine.
- 5:22We're all fine.
- 5:23Okay.
- 5:24Well, I'm going to, I'm going to get into the episode down.
- 5:28Okay.
- 5:29I'm ready.
- 5:30I solemnly swear.
- 5:31Okay.
- 5:32Okay.
- 5:33So I just thought it was really funny because you were asking me, if you could use initials to
- 5:43name the audio file.
- 5:44Yeah.
- 5:45You're being real secretive with me.
- 5:47And I was like, initials would probably be like the worst thing.
- 5:51It would be like a super giveaway.
- 5:53Are you doing DB Cooper?
- 5:55I'm going to kill you.
- 5:59I thought you wanted me to do DB Cooper.
- 6:01I wanted to do it.
- 6:03You want to do it?
- 6:04Yeah.
- 6:05Are you doing it?
- 6:06I'm down with that.
- 6:07There's something that's happening with DB today.
- 6:11And what?
- 6:12Yeah.
- 6:13Yeah.
- 6:14Oh, how did you get that confused?
- 6:17I told you I want, because you said you didn't want to cover it.
- 6:20And I said, okay, I'll cover it.
- 6:22And I was like, I'll start researching.
- 6:24Yeah.
- 6:25I don't know.
- 6:26I guess you'll just have to see because he might be involved.
- 6:30Interesting.
- 6:31I'm excited.
- 6:33Let's go.
- 6:34All right.
- 6:36Anthony Curcio was born September 1st, 1980 in Monroe, Washington to a relatively middle-class
- 6:48family.
- 6:51His parents owned a successful landscaping company in the area.
- 6:56And Monroe has a relatively small population of about 20,000.
- 7:03In terms of economics, the bedroom community has been largely reliant on various aspects
- 7:10of the agricultural industry.
- 7:13So dairy, logging, those lumberjacks.
- 7:17I know what they do to you, but it's also struggled at times in a more modern era.
- 7:26It's historically been an extremely close-knit community, according to locals.
- 7:32And as a teenager, Anthony, he was the captain of his football team and the basketball team.
- 7:42Whoa, calm down.
- 7:44Yeah.
- 7:45Take several seats.
- 7:46Superstar.
- 7:47And then he's like, "I'm going to have lunch."
- 7:49Wow, that's cool though.
- 7:51Yeah.
- 7:52But that wasn't the only dream team that he was a part of.
- 7:56He was also dating one of the most popular girls in school, a beautiful cheerleader named
- 8:03Emily.
- 8:04Of course he was.
- 8:05He's the captain of two teams.
- 8:07Like, yeah.
- 8:08Yeah.
- 8:09He's got a cheerleader girlfriend.
- 8:10Yeah.
- 8:11It's like a law.
- 8:12I think so.
- 8:14I haven't seen it codified yet.
- 8:16But the high school sweethearts would go on to marry after college before having two
- 8:23daughters.
- 8:24Oh.
- 8:25I know.
- 8:26Joke you.
- 8:27Show how awesome.
- 8:28Before they started their family, Anthony followed in his father's footsteps, attending
- 8:34the University of Idaho on a football scholarship.
- 8:38Wow.
- 8:39Oh.
- 8:41His freshman year, he unfortunately found himself suspended from the football team because
- 8:47of his hard partying ways.
- 8:50Uh, uh.
- 8:51Apparently you can drink too much even for the football team.
- 8:55Man.
- 8:56That's like hard to do.
- 8:58Yeah.
- 8:59It is.
- 9:00Yeah.
- 9:01His sophomore year, however, things were looking up.
- 9:06It seems like his efforts to stay on the straight and narrow had him back on the right path, moving
- 9:12forward as a new coach took over the team.
- 9:17That was until he tore his ACL at practice.
- 9:21Uh-oh.
- 9:22I feel like I can hear that.
- 9:25I don't want to think about it.
- 9:26And I hate it.
- 9:27Oh, thanks.
- 9:29It was an incredibly painful injury that sideline him in more ways than one.
- 9:35Not only could he no longer play football due to the injury, but the medication prescribed
- 9:42to him as he attempted to recover, sent him on a dark downward spiral.
- 9:49Uh, that's never good.
- 9:52No.
- 9:53Unfortunately, pain relief quickly morphed into serious substance use disorder.
- 10:02His addiction led to doctor shopping and when necessary, turning to drug dealers for street
- 10:09drugs when prescription drugs were no longer available to him.
- 10:13Damn.
- 10:14Yeah.
- 10:15Anthony's addiction became a very expensive habit.
- 10:22Like buying designer shoes, oh my god, it all comes back to the wedding shoes.
- 10:27I didn't even know.
- 10:29Oh my god.
- 10:30I couldn't have known.
- 10:31I could have known.
- 10:32I was just always thinking about shoes.
- 10:34I'm just always thinking about shoes, apparently.
- 10:38But you only get to use drugs the one time.
- 10:41I mean, shoes are forever.
- 10:44I hope so.
- 10:47This has been your girl, math segment for today.
- 10:51You're actually saving money if you buy designer shoes instead of drugs.
- 10:55Oh my god.
- 10:56My next line.
- 10:57You're welcome.
- 10:58I just saved you tens of thousands.
- 11:01No one can send you to rehab for having a hook to Jimmy Chu or Bashley Mischka
- 11:06Actually, I think they do have like shopping like retail.
- 11:09I have therapy.
- 11:10No, no, no.
- 11:12No retail therapy is the thing you're not supposed to do.
- 11:16Shit.
- 11:17So when I was writing this, this next sentence, I went shopping yesterday and may have consumed
- 11:26slightly more shoe porn than is typically considered healthy.
- 11:34But I digress.
- 11:35It was dirt.
- 11:38Back to Anthony to support his overwhelming addiction.
- 11:42He was known to sometimes dress up like a mover and would make off with other people's
- 11:47stuff on campus to sell on eBay.
- 11:51Yikes.
- 11:52Yeah.
- 11:53That's creepy too.
- 11:55I know, isn't it?
- 11:57This rose did not require particularly fashionable footwear, however.
- 12:03No, I can't imagine.
- 12:07But this approach was somewhat time consuming.
- 12:11He was able over time to come up with another money-making scheme.
- 12:16Actually, multiple.
- 12:20Later he would go on to create and sell high-value counterfeit baseball cards.
- 12:28This man and his sports name.
- 12:33He could make thousands more this way in a fraction of the time.
- 12:38Which is ridiculous because are you going to make them say it?
- 12:43You can't even wear baseball cards.
- 12:46You could if you tried really hard.
- 12:49You could have to be a little artistic.
- 12:53I thought about that comeback coming from you as a ruthless.
- 12:58Anything is possible, Caitlyn.
- 13:01Yeah, if you can wear meat dress, exactly Lady Gaga's next big crazy outfit should just be
- 13:08made from baseball cards.
- 13:10I'm just saying I'm uncomfortable with announcing my measurements or sizes already.
- 13:19If I had to be measured as a human being in terms of number of baseball cards, I think I
- 13:26would die.
- 13:28Just absolutely pass away.
- 13:30Oh my gosh.
- 13:31I can see this is one of the challenges too on one of those shows.
- 13:35Like RuPaul's and the Project Runway.
- 13:38Make a dress at a baseball card.
- 13:42Those would be fabulous, I'm sure.
- 13:45So fabulous.
- 13:47It seemed like whenever he started to attract too much attention, he would just find a new
- 13:52way to make money.
- 13:59While Anthony worked furiously to manage his habit and the perceptions of those around him,
- 14:05he couldn't fool everyone.
- 14:08As his addiction progressed, those closest to him understood that he had a serious problem.
- 14:14They supported him in his struggle with addiction while he did multiple stints and rehab.
- 14:22By 2008, it seemed like things were going really well for Anthony and his family.
- 14:29They owned a beautiful home in Seattle and a real estate investment company.
- 14:34Oh, that's going to make some money.
- 14:38Yeah, it would definitely make some money.
- 14:41I don't know if you happen to notice the year.
- 14:45Don't worry.
- 14:462008.
- 14:47Is that what you said?
- 14:48Okay.
- 14:49At the time, he also happened to be balancing a habit of both vikin and various other illicit
- 14:56drugs to the tune of $15,000 a month.
- 15:00Oh my God.
- 15:02That should be expensive.
- 15:04Oh my God.
- 15:06Think of all the shoes he could have bought.
- 15:09Or anything.
- 15:11Pretty rocks.
- 15:12You know what, tarot cards.
- 15:15He'd simply put Ms. Bradshaw to shame.
- 15:19Just getting me loving Gary.
- 15:22She's never shamed.
- 15:23No.
- 15:24But it was 2008.
- 15:26And in case you don't recall or you maybe locked it out for emotional and psychological
- 15:32reasons, there was a financial crisis brewing, particularly within the housing market.
- 15:39It turns out that was a pretty tough time to be in the real estate business.
- 15:45Yeah.
- 15:46Like the toughest since I don't probably the Great Depression.
- 15:53Yeah.
- 15:54That old thing.
- 15:55That old thing.
- 15:56That old thing I kept talking about in the last couple of exactly when she did her thing.
- 16:01When she did her thing.
- 16:04When the real estate market crashed, it put his dire financial situation into perspective.
- 16:11It might not happen.
- 16:13Well, sort of.
- 16:14In later statements, he would indicate that at the time he was angry that the big banks
- 16:20were getting bailouts and he was being hung out to dry.
- 16:24Which I mean, he did not stand alone.
- 16:27Yeah.
- 16:28No, not Island.
- 16:30However, I mean, you know.
- 16:33He didn't blame himself for a series of choices that had negatively impacted his family's
- 16:40financial situation.
- 16:44You know, some personal responsibility as well.
- 16:47Yeah.
- 16:48No, it's always someone else or something else.
- 16:52Which to be fair, with this next sentiment, he wasn't entirely wrong, but I think you can
- 16:56see where he might have gotten carried away.
- 17:00Anthony said it was corporate greed that had crashed the market, tanked his business and
- 17:07placed him in this precarious financial position.
- 17:11He's not totally wrong, but I'm just saying, you know, if you're spending $15,000 a month
- 17:22that you probably don't actually have and you're in the business of turning over, you know,
- 17:28these starter homes or homes that you're renovating.
- 17:34If you put that energy and effort into that, that is probably what have been fine, even through
- 17:40the hard chip.
- 17:42It's hard to say.
- 17:45Like, yeah, I don't know.
- 17:46I don't even know what to really call it, but the crisis, crisis, crisis, crisis, the
- 17:53crisis, but I just think, you know, probably their business was going to suffer and probably
- 18:01his family's financial situation was going to suffer, but I think it just says a lot about
- 18:06his mentality at that point that, you know, everybody was blaming the big banks as they
- 18:11should, but also, you know, two things can be true.
- 18:18Anthony, never one to give up in the face of obvious defeat, came up with a new way to make
- 18:27money.
- 18:28Of course.
- 18:29And also exact a small bit of revenge on the big banking industry.
- 18:37He decided that rather than rob a bank, he'd instead target the armored vehicle delivering
- 18:45money to bank.
- 18:47He learned absolutely everything that he could about the Brink's trucks making deliveries.
- 18:55There are routes, the layouts of the interior of said vehicle.
- 18:59Damn.
- 19:00What if any vulnerabilities the vehicles had?
- 19:04He surveilled Brink's vehicles extensively.
- 19:08In some cases going so far is to play dress up again.
- 19:13Like a landscaper this time.
- 19:16Get an attempt to get closer, a closer look while still blending it.
- 19:24Huh.
- 19:25Wow.
- 19:26Sneaky.
- 19:27Sneaky.
- 19:28He's playing real hard.
- 19:31Hard ball.
- 19:32Honestly, how someone doesn't end up on a government watch list at this point still baffles
- 19:38me, but here we are.
- 19:40And I probably am a government watch list.
- 19:43You know, Google searches.
- 19:48Fine.
- 19:50Now one thing Anthony carefully considered that many others often neglect to give careful
- 19:57thought.
- 19:59He realized he needed a solid getaway plan.
- 20:04The bank he chosen was located in the downtown area of Monroe near highway 2, but it didn't
- 20:12actually have any direct access to a major freeway, which is what you want.
- 20:18Yeah.
- 20:19If you look at contemporary robberies of financial institutions, you'll quickly realize
- 20:25we've come a long way since the days of Bonnie and Clyde.
- 20:29Typically, the perpetrators want to act quickly.
- 20:33And in some cases, arguably most, depending on the source of your data perhose, may even
- 20:40be unarmed.
- 20:44Most robberies actually occur.
- 20:47They're perpetrated by unarmed assailants.
- 20:51Yeah.
- 20:52Because you don't really need it.
- 20:54The fear is like that you might have one is probably in a well.
- 20:59And then the charges start to get stacked when you have a weapon.
- 21:04Is it?
- 21:05Is it?
- 21:06Sorry.
- 21:07Let me frame.
- 21:08Don't stutter.
- 21:12Do they give you more time or whatever if you pretend like you have a gun?
- 21:18They can.
- 21:19In some instances.
- 21:21I know I've looked at cases where even if it was a fake weapon, they can still find a way
- 21:29to stack charges.
- 21:30I feel like that's fair.
- 21:32Because yeah.
- 21:33Because that person is terrorized as if you had a weapon.
- 21:37Yeah.
- 21:41What Anthony planned to do was not altogether unheard of.
- 21:46But just to put this in perspective, here's some data from the FBI for 2022.
- 21:54Over 1500 bank crimes were committed at the Teller counter in 2022.
- 22:01There is none were reported for armored vehicles.
- 22:06So I think a little bit of research that I did about the statistics led me to believe this
- 22:13is exactly as bulky as it sounds.
- 22:16Wow.
- 22:17Remarkably, over a thousand of the aforementioned crimes used a demand note.
- 22:26It only roughly 200 some involved the use of a weapon in some form or fashion according
- 22:35to my rating.
- 22:36So in recent history, it's almost unheard of.
- 22:41Wow.
- 22:42Which I think is a good thing.
- 22:45Yeah, it's a good thing.
- 22:46Yeah.
- 22:47Not complaining.
- 22:48Exactly.
- 22:49I have a personal story to share at the end of the case if we have time.
- 22:53Oh.
- 22:54Guys, it'll just be a little shorty bonus for the Patreon.
- 22:59Anthony explored a variety of ideas for his escape, but eventually all of his brainstorming
- 23:07led to a pretty wild idea.
- 23:11One just wild enough to work maybe.
- 23:15Woods Creek, which feeds into Snohomish River, was close by.
- 23:21So he thought, what about escaping on a jet ski?
- 23:28That sounds like a movie.
- 23:31And I'm going to have to come back to this because I haven't told you yet.
- 23:35I'm bearing the lead.
- 23:36I haven't told you why.
- 23:39I didn't want to tell you the name of this.
- 23:42I have to put this down at the bottom of my notes real quick because he has a namesake.
- 23:50And so you'll see.
- 23:54Okay.
- 23:55Damn it.
- 23:56Okay.
- 23:57Unfortunately, he quickly learned that the creek was too shallow in places.
- 24:06For a jet ski?
- 24:07Wow.
- 24:08Okay.
- 24:09Yeah.
- 24:10It's like a creek.
- 24:11Yeah.
- 24:12Kind of.
- 24:13Rather than abandon that idea entirely, he would spend weeks trying to dig out a path
- 24:19of greater depth to allow a jet ski to navigate the small body of water.
- 24:28I was like, God damn.
- 24:31This man is determined.
- 24:32And you know what?
- 24:33He's really determined that his escape should involve a jet ski, which I mean, I get it.
- 24:39They're cool.
- 24:40He's like, God damn it.
- 24:41I had a dream.
- 24:42And it will not be crushed.
- 24:44Yeah.
- 24:45I must have the jet ski.
- 24:47Well, spoiler alert, he's not going to get the jet ski.
- 24:51Oh, God.
- 24:52Well, hold on.
- 24:53Before we move on, I do have to say, since we are on a podcast and I am on a video, the entire
- 24:58time she was telling me about digging up of the creek or the creek or whatever the fuck.
- 25:03I was just staring blankly and blinking into camera because I don't have anything to
- 25:10say.
- 25:11Like, how does one respond to?
- 25:16It's that.
- 25:17I would certainly like if the Sandlot crew had decided to rob the thing.
- 25:23She's not wrong.
- 25:26He did eventually abandon this strategy.
- 25:31But as was the case for Anthony at every point in his life prior, it didn't take long for him
- 25:36to come up with another plan.
- 25:38A yacht.
- 25:39Well, a jet ski ain't making it through.
- 25:43You know what, yacht.
- 25:44It's not going to happen.
- 25:45You never know.
- 25:48He started brainstorming how he might be able to use another slightly more subtle type
- 25:55of watercraft instead.
- 25:58Perhaps an inner tube.
- 25:59I was going to guess like a raft or something.
- 26:02Okay.
- 26:03Yeah.
- 26:04Raft or tube.
- 26:05Right.
- 26:06If you're floating down the clack, those terms are interchangeable.
- 26:11But for anyone that's gone floating before, you know, it's not the quickest mode of quote,
- 26:20unquote, transportation.
- 26:22It's not.
- 26:23You're just floating.
- 26:24Exactly.
- 26:25Lazy river.
- 26:26Yes.
- 26:27So he created a cable system along the creek bed.
- 26:37Like along.
- 26:38Okay.
- 26:39I can't.
- 26:40But he created a cable system along the creek to allow for propelling the small waterborne
- 26:48craft in some of the slower moving stretches of the water.
- 26:53Okay.
- 26:57It's not any crazier than trying to dig the creek deeper.
- 27:02Just let's get a system of police.
- 27:04Yeah.
- 27:05Yep.
- 27:06Yep.
- 27:07This is the Sandlock grill.
- 27:10Yeah.
- 27:11It's just a one dumb man instead of like 15 children.
- 27:17I mean, I've never met Anthony.
- 27:20So I can't tell you for certain that he's not actually three children stacked up in a
- 27:26children.
- 27:27And obviously he's like kind of he is like kind of smart and artistic, but like me put that
- 27:34into something else.
- 27:35Yeah.
- 27:36The creativity, the intelligence, the problem solving.
- 27:41They have so much potential in these criminals and they just they blow their big shot.
- 27:47Yeah.
- 27:48One shot.
- 27:50One opportunity.
- 27:51Too far.
- 27:52Anyway, we should move on.
- 27:59He created a tear-away landscaper disguise so that he could initially blend in with others
- 28:06that would be outside of the bank at the time.
- 28:09And then also immediately change up his appearance in order to thwart detection as he escaped
- 28:15the area where he committed the crime.
- 28:18So that's actually pretty fucking brilliant.
- 28:20It's kind of a tear-away costume.
- 28:22Yeah.
- 28:23So all the people that were there witnessing the robbery are going to remember a very specific
- 28:29description.
- 28:31And as soon as he gets far enough away, he's going to immediately change up his physical appearance.
- 28:37It's very smart.
- 28:38Like that's brilliant.
- 28:39It's very dramatic.
- 28:41It is.
- 28:42It's just such a movie plot.
- 28:43It's very Ocean's 11.
- 28:45Yeah.
- 28:46It's the same lot me Ocean's 11.
- 28:49That's great.
- 28:51Literally.
- 28:52It really is.
- 28:53Oh my god.
- 28:54Yeah.
- 28:55Okay.
- 28:56Cool.
- 28:57I like it.
- 28:58In the lead up to the highest he placed an ad on Craigslist dating back to September 27,
- 29:052008 for land scapers or day laborers promising an hourly rate of 2850 for a temporary job placement
- 29:17intended to last roughly a week.
- 29:21The fictitious project was referred to as the beautification of Monroe project.
- 29:30Respondents were told to wear a blue shirt and hat, neon safety vest and glasses as well
- 29:36as a painter's mask.
- 29:38Half were instructed to report to the park across the street from the bank, Eagle Park.
- 29:45The remainder of the respondents were told to meet in a grocery store parking lot next
- 29:50to the bank.
- 29:51Okay.
- 29:52They were told that they should wait at each of their respective sites until they were
- 29:59greeted by a project manager that would provide further instructions.
- 30:03Yeah.
- 30:04I bet they showed up.
- 30:06Sure did.
- 30:08In all, he'd arranged for over a dozen decoys to be in the area where the robbery was to take
- 30:15place.
- 30:16Oh my god.
- 30:17I was like talking about Eminem and then now there's all these slimshadeys around.
- 30:23Well, the real slimshadeys play stand up.
- 30:26Will the real slimshadeys stand up?
- 30:31I got rolls the lead there.
- 30:32I don't want these here.
- 30:34Oh.
- 30:35What?
- 30:36What?
- 30:37Why do we both do that?
- 30:40Oh boy.
- 30:45You guys, we have something really exciting to share with you.
- 30:48Let's hear a few words from our new pod besties.
- 30:52Hello twisted humans.
- 30:55Do you find yourself wanting to know more about the latest murder, conspiracy, cults, or
- 31:00haunting?
- 31:01Then this is the podcast for you.
- 31:04We're bringing the most intense stories that'll keep you up at night.
- 31:07He was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and philonia's assault.
- 31:13He was only sentenced to five months of probation and this would be the last time that anyone
- 31:20ever saw fear.
- 31:22There are allegedly two women who also drowned in the first month's pool.
- 31:27What's this the same glowing green they'd seen in the darkness the night before?
- 31:31He had refused to sit near the wagon cloth because of stains on it, which were most likely
- 31:38blood.
- 31:39We'll see you next time.
- 31:51Check the mouth creepy people.
- 31:52You can find their info in our show notes.
- 31:57On September 30th, 2008, just after 11am, Anthony was waiting just outside the bank branch,
- 32:05posing as a landscaper.
- 32:08He sat down his weed sprayer and revealed a can of pepper spray.
- 32:16He sprayed the armed brink guard directly in the face as he was attempting to take the money
- 32:23from the vehicle into the bank.
- 32:26Cheese.
- 32:27Yeah.
- 32:28They, in some descriptions, they called it bear mace, which makes it sound worse.
- 32:34Oh, it is worse.
- 32:35It's bear mace.
- 32:36I was like, I don't know what the difference is.
- 32:38Some sources called it pepper spray.
- 32:41The sources called it OC gel.
- 32:43Some of them called it bear mace.
- 32:44It was like all of it sounds terrible.
- 32:47Bear mace is just like a roll big can.
- 32:48It was real strong for bear mace.
- 32:51It was huge.
- 32:52I think it was actually bear mace.
- 32:55In any bears are coming up in every episode.
- 32:57Every episode.
- 32:58Are we new girl?
- 32:59There's like a bear in every.
- 33:04I just keep thinking about the time earlier this week when I had to chop a whole red onion.
- 33:10And I was like, I couldn't do it.
- 33:13I literally couldn't do it.
- 33:15If you bear mace me, just bury me now.
- 33:19You're supposed to stick out your tongue while you chop onions.
- 33:23Because they're the...
- 33:24I just turned on the hood.
- 33:25The molecules want to find moisture.
- 33:29So if your tongue is out, they'll attach it up first and then not into eyeballs.
- 33:34Well I cut it in half and like kind of walked away.
- 33:37It's like a few steps.
- 33:39And I turned on my overhead van in the kitchen.
- 33:43And then after that, I had like no problems.
- 33:45Or I wonder if you could even like put like a wet towel next to them?
- 33:50I don't know.
- 33:51That's a good idea.
- 33:52It's just a spear mouth.
- 33:53I might have had a wet towel on the counter come to think of it.
- 33:56Actually.
- 33:57You should do that next time.
- 33:58Okay.
- 33:59Just get wet.
- 34:00Just have a wet shirt.
- 34:01Just have a wet shirt contest for one while I try.
- 34:04And then chop your onions.
- 34:05Do the dishes first and then chop your onions.
- 34:07Because you know you will have a wet shirt.
- 34:09Yeah.
- 34:10Life hacks with Cassie and Caitlyn.
- 34:13You're welcome.
- 34:15Oh my gosh.
- 34:20This only fans thing just keeps getting more and more real.
- 34:23Yeah, the secrets aren't going to be free forever.
- 34:26Okay.
- 34:27That's right.
- 34:28He grabbed the two bags of money taking off in the direction of the aforementioned aquatic
- 34:34getaway that he had planned so carefully shutting his disguise as he did so.
- 34:42So this is just a man running to enormous bags of money towards a crack.
- 34:48Terran, this is just running to his inner tube.
- 34:54Just I'm seeing it all right.
- 34:55People are just really stunning.
- 34:59Even if this was a movie, I would still be laughing because it's all dramatic in action.
- 35:04And he's going to this inner tube that's like going to maybe a little quicker from the
- 35:11police.
- 35:12Yeah.
- 35:13Oh my God.
- 35:16As he ran away, he was nearly hit by an oncoming vehicle causing him to abandon one of the
- 35:21bags knowing that slowing down for even the briefest time, he'd lead to his capture.
- 35:27He lost a whole bag of money already.
- 35:30Sure did.
- 35:31Yeah, he dropped one in the encounter with another vehicle.
- 35:36Yeah.
- 35:37I'm okay.
- 35:38In the movie, the car does hit him and he like does a thing, but then like the money flies
- 35:44all over the place and then he gets up and continues.
- 35:48We really should be screenwriters and I think we kind of are.
- 35:52I guess so.
- 35:54Though he'd lost out on roughly half of the overall take, Anthony was still left with
- 36:00roughly $400,000.
- 36:01It's a decent amount.
- 36:04So pretty good amount of money.
- 36:06I hope he brought a dry bag for the inner tube just saying.
- 36:11You know, I don't know.
- 36:12It wasn't brought up specifically, but it's good.
- 36:17That's good thinking.
- 36:20He's really hit or miss.
- 36:22Real hit or miss.
- 36:24Mitch Ruth, a local real estate broker, placed a call to 911 after witnessing the robbery
- 36:30in real time.
- 36:32Mitch had decided in an instant to chase after the quickly escaping robber.
- 36:40He was armed at the time, but never attempted to fire on the man.
- 36:44Anthony got so fucking lucky.
- 36:47Wow.
- 36:49When asked why he chased after the man, Mitch said, "What do you say?
- 36:54I'm in real estate.
- 36:55Times have been tough.
- 36:57If a guy's got a bag of money like that, he's not getting away without buying a home.
- 37:02What do you say?
- 37:03You know?"
- 37:04"Did he follow him long enough to catch the bag of money that he dropped?"
- 37:10"You know, I don't think so."
- 37:14I just thought it was really interesting because he talked about how this guy's running away
- 37:18and like, "Yes, you know, he bare mace this person which that's awful."
- 37:24But he was like, "I am not the type of person."
- 37:27Like, here's my business card.
- 37:28Well, more so though, the thing that he really talked about at length in, I listened to
- 37:34a full documentary series.
- 37:39It's an audio, it's a podcast.
- 37:41It's an audio documentary series where they interviewed him at length and he talked about
- 37:48how he's like, "I'm not shooting a man in the back."
- 37:52"Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah."
- 37:54"He's not a murderer.
- 37:56I'm not shooting a man in the back as he's running for money."
- 37:59"Yeah."
- 38:00"No, that makes total sense."
- 38:02"Yeah."
- 38:03And I just thought, "Wow, okay, cool.
- 38:05It's good to know that that's the type of person that lives in Monroe because, holy
- 38:11shit, there's a lot of places you could go, I think, in this country and just be shot in
- 38:15the back for real."
- 38:18"Why are you defending the big bank's money?"
- 38:20"Yeah."
- 38:21"I guess, okay, boys, go."
- 38:23I don't know.
- 38:25I thought you were meaning to...
- 38:26They wouldn't defend you.
- 38:27No.
- 38:28Obviously.
- 38:29How's it?
- 38:30I thought you were saying like why he chased after him.
- 38:37Oh, he wanted the money.
- 38:38He wanted to actually sell my house.
- 38:41Yeah, to sell my house.
- 38:43I think he just said that to be funny.
- 38:44I thought that was a pretty...
- 38:46That is funny.
- 38:47Yeah, I thought that was a great joke.
- 38:49Like, there's literally not a more appropriate joke for somebody in his profession to make.
- 38:55So I liked it.
- 38:58He witnessed him shutting his disguise as he fled.
- 39:04When the police arrived on the scene, they reacted pretty much exactly as Anthony had hoped,
- 39:10truthfully in a fairly predictable way.
- 39:14And I just picture like a sequence from the three stoos now for about a minute.
- 39:21With all the like...
- 39:22Join me in that visual, won't you?
- 39:24Decoise running around and they're like, "Woo!
- 39:27Woo!
- 39:28They begin interviewing the dozen or so people matching the description of the assailant,
- 39:33Anthony himself had hired through Craigslist."
- 39:38That is like that's so smart.
- 39:40I know.
- 39:42So he had hired them through Craigslist to act as unwitting decoise.
- 39:47It's fucking brilliant.
- 39:48He basically didn't even have to pay them, right?
- 39:51No.
- 39:52Because they were going to get paid at the end of the day.
- 39:55But still, it's like you get free help in these people.
- 39:59Don't even know they're assisting in a crime.
- 40:02Nope.
- 40:03The longer they were held up with these interviews, the further Anthony was able to run.
- 40:09Shall we say, "Propel, who's a flute?"
- 40:14Making pretty much a clean getaway.
- 40:16Wow.
- 40:17You know what?
- 40:18I had this thought and I want to say it before I forget.
- 40:21It would have been even cleaner if he had just thought about one more thing if he had like
- 40:25a smoke bomb and then ripped up.
- 40:28Woo!
- 40:29That's really what he need.
- 40:31Honestly, it just goes back to the smoke machine that we keep saying that we need for in this
- 40:35room.
- 40:36If it weren't the thing that would absolutely make this room toxic and kill us.
- 40:42Someone tell us how to get a smokey creepy room without dying.
- 40:46Dying.
- 40:47Yeah.
- 40:48Please.
- 40:49Yeah.
- 40:50Because I would do anything for this pod.
- 40:52Dry eyes?
- 40:53Can you have being in a room with dry eyes?
- 40:55Yeah.
- 40:56Because they put it in drinks even.
- 40:58Right?
- 40:59Yeah, dry eyes.
- 41:00Let's do that.
- 41:01It's going to be a real expensive.
- 41:03The production quality of this show is excellent.
- 41:07Is dry eyes expensive?
- 41:08I have no idea, but if we have to buy it enough, you only need a little bit.
- 41:12I know, but for every week we'll record.
- 41:15Cassie, I'm telling you, it can be for like special occasions.
- 41:20I'll go.
- 41:21Yeah, maybe we'll play around with that.
- 41:24Anywho.
- 41:25Oh wait, I'm going to start off boring.
- 41:27This is so sad.
- 41:28Okay.
- 41:29I'm going to finish this paragraph and then go get more wine.
- 41:31Yeah, how sad for you?
- 41:32Okay.
- 41:33Okay.
- 41:34Tim Basel was the primary detective on the case.
- 41:38Basel.
- 41:39Yeah.
- 41:40I know.
- 41:41It's spelled different than Basel or Basel.
- 41:44It's like with a Z.
- 41:46Oh.
- 41:47So it's interesting.
- 41:48I've not.
- 41:49I heard it pronounced several times, but I feel like I want to say it weird.
- 41:54I want to say it weird, you guys.
- 41:56How do you want to say it?
- 41:57I don't know.
- 41:58Like, Bazael.
- 41:59Like, gazelle.
- 42:00Yeah, like gazelle, but with a B.
- 42:02Think of like, razzle basil.
- 42:03Yeah, basil.
- 42:04It's the same basil.
- 42:05Razzle basil basil.
- 42:06Razzle basil basil.
- 42:07There you go.
- 42:08Okay.
- 42:09He'd been a financial analyst with Boeing prior to joining law enforcement.
- 42:16So it's funny because we were talking about Boeing in the beginning.
- 42:18Weird.
- 42:19Everything in the world connects.
- 42:20I know.
- 42:21And that was completely unintentional because you know I'm a goldfish and I can never
- 42:24remember this like, three pages deep into my nose.
- 42:30Like Ben at the nearby elementary school following up on a different case when he heard
- 42:34sirens.
- 42:36And though he didn't have his radio, he knew almost immediately that he should respond.
- 42:41So he didn't even know what was happening, but he was like, gotta go sirens.
- 42:47When Tim razzle dazzle Bazael.
- 42:49I was like, no.
- 42:52Arrived on the scene.
- 43:02The man that had been sprayed was still also on the scene.
- 43:05So terrible.
- 43:06I feel so terrible for him.
- 43:07I like how to smile and like slowly shifted into like what does this like your grimace?
- 43:09Like a gromace.
- 43:10Yeah.
- 43:12He was not only trying to flush his eyes, but was also experiencing some difficulty breathing.
- 43:17Oh, yeah.
- 43:18Yeah.
- 43:19She got some.
- 43:20She's so gnar-nar.
- 43:21In your lungs.
- 43:22It's gnarcy.
- 43:24Oh.
- 43:26Multiple calls were placed to 911 within just minutes of the robbery from inside and outside
- 43:32the bank, as well as the brinks truck and others that came from passers-by.
- 43:39Wow.
- 43:40A lot of people were like, hey, did you guys just, did you know they just like, they robbed
- 43:47that guy?
- 43:48You know, who brings the money?
- 43:51By the time law enforcement made it down towards Creek, the inner tube was long since abandoned.
- 43:58Okay.
- 44:00The only evidence Anthony had left behind of his crime were the remnants of his disguise,
- 44:06an evake description of a tall man with an athletic build.
- 44:10The witnesses said they'd seen quickly making his way in the direction of the Creek from
- 44:16what they could tell.
- 44:19The unexpected and mysterious crime became the talk of the town.
- 44:24Small town.
- 44:25Yeah.
- 44:26But it also is pretty wild.
- 44:28Yeah.
- 44:29I feel like that would be the talk of a big town, though.
- 44:33It was a homeless man that came forward to the Monroe detectives that would lead to the
- 44:39undoing of our capers, perpetrator.
- 44:46And I realized that I've said homeless.
- 44:50I believe that's how he referred to himself and he was referred to in a number of the various
- 44:57source material that I looked at.
- 45:00But on the whole, I think we don't necessarily love that term.
- 45:07He'd noticed a wig, mask, pepper spray, odd compo.
- 45:14He had a dumpster in a spot that he was known to frequent.
- 45:18He'd called it in as he was concerned that it seemed odd and thought on the off chance
- 45:23of something untoward going on.
- 45:29He didn't want for anyone to suspect he had any connection.
- 45:33Oh, yeah.
- 45:34I mean, that makes sense.
- 45:35Yeah.
- 45:36You're a homeless or a houseless person.
- 45:38You are an easy target.
- 45:41Yeah.
- 45:42Exactly.
- 45:43I was like really thinking like that was so smart, so smart.
- 45:48And he's going to continue to be kind of smart, dude.
- 45:52The report taken by patrol included the details of the unusual stash.
- 46:00Nothing had come of the call initially, but they were glad the dispatcher had taken down
- 46:06his name in order to track him down.
- 46:12You know, after the robbery had happened, the detectives went to an area where a large
- 46:17unhoused population was known to congregate in sort of a little makeshift community.
- 46:25And they took with them a bag, shocked, full of McDonald's cheeseburgers and other goodies.
- 46:33No, these two not just hats.
- 46:36Yeah.
- 46:37Okay.
- 46:38They traded the burgers for information and they were actually able to track down the man
- 46:43that had made the report.
- 46:45Wow.
- 46:46Yeah.
- 46:47Authorities had been unable to trace anything via the Craigslist ad, which they thought for
- 46:53sure, oh, there's a Craigslist ad.
- 46:55All of these people responded that surely will be able to trace that.
- 46:58No dice.
- 46:59Nothing.
- 47:00So this was just the break that they were looking for.
- 47:06He told detectives.
- 47:07He'd also seen a man come out of the woods and take the stuff.
- 47:12So he'd seen this stuff a couple days prior.
- 47:15Somebody came and collected it.
- 47:17Oh.
- 47:18He saw someone who may or may not be connected with the robbery.
- 47:28He'd written down the license plate of the vehicle that that person had been traveling
- 47:34in.
- 47:35Oh, shit.
- 47:37Yeah.
- 47:38And I know you're going to be super surprised and not mad, but just disappointing to learn
- 47:48that the plate was linked to Emily Curcio.
- 47:54That's Anthony's wife.
- 47:55Okay.
- 47:56Just connecting the dots.
- 47:58Yeah.
- 47:59Honestly, I didn't know she was in on this whole thing.
- 48:01I'm just kidding.
- 48:02I shouldn't say that.
- 48:03For legal reasons, I shouldn't say that.
- 48:05She's not.
- 48:08She's not.
- 48:09But that's how they connected to one Anthony Curcio.
- 48:13Very smart.
- 48:16While they surveilled Anthony, they observed him on more than one expensive shopping tree,
- 48:23including the purchase of a Range Rover.
- 48:28He even took a trip to Vegas with friends and his teenage mistress.
- 48:37It was all fun in games until the child knew it was not great.
- 48:46I was also going to ask, did he purchase a pool so he can swim in Dollar Dollar Bill?
- 48:50I just thought that was all of those, y'all.
- 48:56See, personally, I like to fill my swimming pool full of liquor and then dive in.
- 49:02But I can see where we are.
- 49:05I'm very different.
- 49:09We can have a champagne pool with dry bags of money floating around in it.
- 49:14How's that sound?
- 49:16I was literally going Kendrick Lamar and I'm not even sure where you're at.
- 49:24I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:31I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:38I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:40I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:41I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:42I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:43I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:44I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:45I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:46I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:47I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:48I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:49I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:50I was like, "I'm going to get my drink."
- 49:51You know I like vodka and in that pool would have bubble carbonation, water, and bubbles.
- 49:58In lime floaties, in buble.
- 50:05So many bubbles so little time.
- 50:09Here are a few details that were seemingly only discovered after the fact.
- 50:15His co-conspirator backed out at the last minute.
- 50:21The night before the heist.
- 50:23Uh-oh.
- 50:24Uh-huh.
- 50:25Who was co-conspirator?
- 50:27I'm not going to.
- 50:28I don't think I have them specifically named.
- 50:33I think they've remained largely unnamed in a lot of the material out there.
- 50:39I'm world about this, but shocked that anyone backed out of this genius planet.
- 50:46Well, in the wake of this sudden change of heart, he enlisted to other friends as a getaway driver and look out.
- 50:57How do you just find these friends?
- 50:59Like, you want to rob a bank in the garage?
- 51:01The lookout was to keep an eye on highway two from across the way.
- 51:06The area where he had stashed his inner tube that was supposedly, "This is the best ride."
- 51:13This is the best.
- 51:14The inner tube that he used was also supposedly stolen property.
- 51:19Oh, well, of course it was.
- 51:22Well, you don't want to go out and buy an inner tube because, you know, what if they go and check at the Walmart?
- 51:29You know what I want to picture this inner tube?
- 51:31It's like one of those like, pizza-shaped ones.
- 51:35Oh, that big unicorn.
- 51:37I mean, honestly, it's almost as noticeable.
- 51:42It was like, you know that song, "Black and Yellow?"
- 51:46Yeah.
- 51:47That's, I just hear it every time I talk about the inner tube because it was literally like a fucking, not an actual bumblebee, but it was a black and yellow inner tube.
- 51:59Like, it couldn't have been more inconspicuous.
- 52:02Wow.
- 52:05So anyways, where he had stashed the inner tube, that now sits on private property.
- 52:17If you've got a road noise kink or are just interested in hearing Anthony recount some of the events that took place, then you should check out the podcast series, "The Sneak."
- 52:33You were like, "He's the snake, he's the snake, he's the snake."
- 52:37I just pick up on these things.
- 52:39Yes.
- 52:40There's a lone house nearby just across the street that Anthony had access to at the time through his real estate business.
- 52:50That's where his getaway driver was waiting.
- 52:53So this was kind of an interesting point that somebody made in the long form documentary.
- 53:05It seems like the smart thing to do at the time might have been just to wait out the initial police response to the robbery inside that house.
- 53:19That you have access to legitimately.
- 53:24He talked about this and he was like, "Yeah, I could have even set up some like kind of phony showings."
- 53:31And I could have hung out there for hours to just let the area clear completely.
- 53:39And nobody would have been the wiser.
- 53:42I mean, I guess they would have still connected this to him, to be honest because of our good friend.
- 53:51Good friend.
- 53:53We'll come back to it.
- 53:56It was the quaint downtown area of Monroe that his getaway driver started freaking out.
- 54:05Freaking out, man.
- 54:06Freaking out, man.
- 54:09He's already pulled over. He can't pull over any farther.
- 54:14That's how it was like.
- 54:18This is what it was like.
- 54:20The driver stopped, popped the trunk, and initially Anthony was able to get it closed again because he was inside the trunk.
- 54:29The guy was kind of like trying to be like, "Get the fuck out of my car."
- 54:32Like, "I can't do this."
- 54:34And he just closed the trunk again.
- 54:37Okay.
- 54:39But the second time, he crawled out of the car, leaving the money in the trunk.
- 54:47He snuck into the laundry room of a nearby apartment complex, snatched a shirt he found to help switch up his look,
- 54:56and then walked over to the real estate office to place a call to his getaway driver, which like you were just with him.
- 55:07Like, he doesn't want anything to do with this.
- 55:11Why are you calling him?
- 55:13Why do you leave the money in there?
- 55:15I had so many questions.
- 55:17So many questions. That was the first question that I had.
- 55:22The first time Anthony called, the driver didn't answer.
- 55:26The second time he immediately hung up on Anthony after he heard his voice.
- 55:34Anthony's truck was parked a short walk away.
- 55:42But of course, he's kind of got a lot of stuff going on right now.
- 55:46He's a little bit nervous about walking around in public as the guy who just robbed the bank, but right, and his money is gone.
- 55:55So like, yeah, it just gets better though.
- 56:00Anthony called the lookout, who turned out to actually also be a dud, having bailed on the plant.
- 56:08So he never showed up at the Bank of America.
- 56:11He was never being a lookout.
- 56:14He was a lookout in you to get now.
- 56:17You didn't like make sure your lookout was there?
- 56:20I don't I'm weird.
- 56:22Who's looking out for the lookout?
- 56:24I don't know. Probably somebody who's sober.
- 56:29He described the odd feeling of looking up and seeing helicopters that unbeknownst anyone around him were in fact looking for him.
- 56:41He got to his truck and then met with his getaway driver in another nearby small town.
- 56:49Though he was super pissed about his unreliable support team, particularly the getaway driver, he didn't have much time to waste on that conflict.
- 57:00And besides, they'd keep quiet.
- 57:02Knowing he dropped his walkie talkie along the escape route.
- 57:10It was intended to be a clever way of alerting authorities to the fact that there was more than one guilty party to keep the others in check.
- 57:20Oh, okay. That was kind of genius.
- 57:23I know it took me a long while to figure out I was like, okay, so like, why did he even have a walkie?
- 57:31Sometimes you just can't lead a horse to water. I was really struggling for a minute and I was like, they've not talked about these walkie talkies once.
- 57:41What the fuck is happening with these fucking walkie talkies?
- 57:45I must have been hungry. I don't know.
- 57:48You want to eat walkie talkies now?
- 57:50No. No, I must have been hungry when it was like doing that part of my research though, because I was like, I don't get it.
- 57:58Who the fuck cares about the walkie talkies?
- 58:01Some are limited as they were.
- 58:05Anthony's undoing as with any other criminals would be simple mistakes or oversight.
- 58:14Because he did, you know, a fair few things right?
- 58:18Ish. Yeah.
- 58:21They recovered the mask that they assail him, had worn from the scene of the robbery, from which they were able to pull a DNA sample.
- 58:33Wow. So it's probably why you shouldn't leave that behind.
- 58:39Authorities were convinced that Anthony was their guy, because they're already, you know, uncovered that the license plate of a vehicle registered to his wife.
- 58:49You know, that whole thing, thanks to their unhoused witness, Dennis.
- 58:56What if it was a stolen vehicle?
- 58:59Could have been, but they didn't probably have any reports from Emily about her vehicle being stolen?
- 59:05What does she know?
- 59:07I mean, good lawyer.
- 59:11Anyways, let's focus on the wholesomeness of the name Dennis.
- 59:15Yeah. Through the course of surveilling, Anthony, they were able to watch for anything being left behind or discarded, might possibly contain his DNA.
- 59:27So they could try matching it to the sample left on the mask.
- 59:31Sneaky snakes.
- 59:34That's why that Bryan Kohberger douche was like bagging up his trash everywhere and right.
- 59:43As luck would have it. At some point while he's gassing up his range rover, he tosses out a gatorade bottle that he'd been using as a spit cup for his chew.
- 59:55Oh, nasty.
- 59:57Like the most disgusting thing.
- 59:59Can they get DNA out of that? That's so gross.
- 1:00:01They definitely can chew soup. Trying to keep gagging about this internal only now, because it's where to go.
- 1:00:09I could have made myself throw up.
- 1:00:11I can't hear a gross story.
- 1:00:13I don't know. Well, I'll just say I do a lot of like can collecting for like, Puplandia donations (https://www.puplandiadogrescue.org/).
- 1:00:21No, I'm not going to say anymore.
- 1:00:25Oh my god.
- 1:00:27Do you know I had someone sit in my car?
- 1:00:31You guys met her trash.
- 1:00:33Okay. And I've I can vouch for that because I'm getting married.
- 1:00:40But I found all of the trash first.
- 1:00:42Okay.
- 1:00:44She'll all of the trash.
- 1:00:46Yeah. Okay. Some Miner Frogs.
- 1:00:48I found all the trash.
- 1:00:50Okay. I was like, well, no, let's go dumpster diet.
- 1:00:54I've had a man sit in my car with a red solo cup full of chew spit.
- 1:01:02And I said, oh gosh.
- 1:01:04Could you use a bottle or something with a lid?
- 1:01:07And he was like, it's fine.
- 1:01:11You know, any dead less than a minute later.
- 1:01:13You spelled it all over the seat.
- 1:01:21Words can't describe to you how much I want to hurl right now.
- 1:01:24That it like.
- 1:01:26Ugh.
- 1:01:30Even if you hadn't spilled it.
- 1:01:32You spelled it with a wide open.
- 1:01:34It's gross. Yeah. Put it in a bottle for fuck's sake.
- 1:01:38Yeah. Come on.
- 1:01:39I hate the bottles.
- 1:01:41Also, I don't I don't want to look at that.
- 1:01:43Yeah.
- 1:01:44Why do they pick a clear bottle?
- 1:01:46Yeah.
- 1:01:47Because they like to see how disgusting they are.
- 1:01:49Really.
- 1:01:51Really disgusting.
- 1:01:52Just in case anyone was wondering.
- 1:01:55Any who's all science.
- 1:01:59The lab was able to confirm the DNA match based off this sample.
- 1:02:04Put it what cost?
- 1:02:08Ugh.
- 1:02:11I hope they're wearing a hazmat suit.
- 1:02:13I know.
- 1:02:14Okay.
- 1:02:15The ends justify the means, but I'm just saying.
- 1:02:19I'm not the crime scene tech who drew the short straw on that day.
- 1:02:22I'm really glad.
- 1:02:23I'm really glad.
- 1:02:25I'm glad I'm not a crime scene tech.
- 1:02:27I'm just being gosh, thank you.
- 1:02:29Whoever does that.
- 1:02:30Yeah.
- 1:02:31Because we do a lot of work.
- 1:02:33Okay.
- 1:02:34On November 4th, 2008, when Anthony was arrested.
- 1:02:39What?
- 1:02:41While he was at Target.
- 1:02:43Urika.
- 1:02:45He had $17,000 in cash with him.
- 1:02:51That's not in any way suspicious.
- 1:02:54Just some walking around money.
- 1:02:56Okay.
- 1:02:57He was at Target.
- 1:02:58Okay.
- 1:02:59I frequently would like to take $17,000 with him to Target.
- 1:03:03That's a doubt.
- 1:03:04I don't want one of those dream like game shows.
- 1:03:06I hear $17,000.
- 1:03:07Go to Target and buy as much as you can in 30 seconds.
- 1:03:12Mmm.
- 1:03:15When a search warrant was executed on their home, none of the money was found.
- 1:03:20It had been stashed with a friend.
- 1:03:22Oh.
- 1:03:23A square roll.
- 1:03:25Oh.
- 1:03:26Oh.
- 1:03:27Oh.
- 1:03:28Oh.
- 1:03:29Oh, my gosh.
- 1:03:30I just think it's so funny because I'm like, can you throw off with your money?
- 1:03:35I'm really going to trust.
- 1:03:36I don't know if it's the same guy.
- 1:03:37I'm assuming.
- 1:03:38Oh.
- 1:03:39Because I would like to think that he probably wouldn't be dumb enough to involve additional people.
- 1:03:50At this point, but.
- 1:03:53I might be asking a lot.
- 1:03:55Yeah.
- 1:03:56Yeah.
- 1:03:57He was charged in the local county court, but due to the Hobbs Act dating back to the 1950s,
- 1:04:04it wasn't immediately qualified as a federal crime because he didn't enter the bank.
- 1:04:13Oh.
- 1:04:14Did he know that?
- 1:04:15Did he do that on purpose?
- 1:04:16I don't know that he did.
- 1:04:18I think he just thought logistically it would be easier.
- 1:04:22But that's a really great loophole.
- 1:04:28Yeah.
- 1:04:29It doesn't become a federal offense until the money is actually inside the bank.
- 1:04:33I feel like that loophole has got to be closed.
- 1:04:35Wow.
- 1:04:36But extenuating circumstances and a robbery allow for federal charges to be brought.
- 1:04:47Which extenuating circumstances that's so subjective.
- 1:04:53Yeah.
- 1:04:54So subjective.
- 1:04:55I just feel like.
- 1:04:56So they're kind of like.
- 1:04:57So they're kind of like.
- 1:04:58Really want to roll those dice?
- 1:04:59That's a dumb rule.
- 1:05:00I mean, yes and no.
- 1:05:05Both the prosecutor and the judge were seemingly a bit amused by the clever planning that went into the robbery.
- 1:05:13I bet.
- 1:05:14Yeah.
- 1:05:15Saying he'd almost succeeded in carrying out the perfect crime.
- 1:05:22Which I'm like, your honor.
- 1:05:24I object.
- 1:05:25That was very generous.
- 1:05:28Yeah.
- 1:05:29I mean, it's a lot more clever and well planned out.
- 1:05:34Like he definitely did a lot more research.
- 1:05:36The execution was a little bit rough around the edges.
- 1:05:41I would say compared to other robberies though, like, yeah.
- 1:05:47But come on.
- 1:05:49They showed real inventive.
- 1:05:58He really did.
- 1:06:01Anthony could have been facing up to 20 years.
- 1:06:04But the prosecutor asked for just five in his recommendation to the judge.
- 1:06:10His addiction appeared to have been a factor in this decision.
- 1:06:15Which did that give him more or less time?
- 1:06:17No.
- 1:06:18I think the DA wanted to pursue less time because they felt like they wanted him to get help.
- 1:06:26They saw how intelligent, how gifted, how motivated, that, you know, this man was.
- 1:06:33And even under the influence, like, yeah.
- 1:06:37I mean, he very clearly could have nearly gotten away with this.
- 1:06:42Yeah.
- 1:06:43So hopefully they had a plan in mind to get him help and then just hope he would.
- 1:06:48Yeah, go to jail because there's no drugs there.
- 1:06:52Yeah, go to jail.
- 1:06:53You'll get sober.
- 1:06:54You'll be reformed.
- 1:06:55Everything.
- 1:06:56Fine.
- 1:06:57Honestly, listening to a lot of the interviews that they did with him, I was like, is he high right now?
- 1:07:03No.
- 1:07:04So I don't know.
- 1:07:07Anthony's friends and family also submitted over 100 pages of letters explaining how those that knew him had seen his struggles, but attested to his character and potential.
- 1:07:20They asked for leniency as the judge considered his sentencing.
- 1:07:26Like, obviously, guys, like, do I even need to connect the dots here? Like, we all get that.
- 1:07:33Like, he was arrested.
- 1:07:34He's obviously found guilty and he's sentenced.
- 1:07:37Like, yeah.
- 1:07:38I was like, I feel like I kind of sped through some of that.
- 1:07:41But I'm like, listen.
- 1:07:43I feel like this goes without saying almost.
- 1:07:49In the end, Anthony was sentenced to six years in federal prison. Emily and Anthony reunited after his sentence and worked through the issues and their marriage brought up by his addiction.
- 1:08:03As far as I know, they are still together.
- 1:08:06Oh, she's a saint of a woman, literally.
- 1:08:10St. Emily.
- 1:08:11Wow.
- 1:08:12Yeah.
- 1:08:13He wrote an illustrated well over a dozen, takes several seats and deep breaths here.
- 1:08:21This is wild to me, but I also kind of love it.
- 1:08:25Wrote an illustrated well over a dozen children's books while incarcerated, some of which were aimed at helping kids cope with the incarceration of a parent.
- 1:08:40Oh, I know.
- 1:08:41Oh, it's fun.
- 1:08:42It's sweet.
- 1:08:43She's a sweet, what a cry.
- 1:08:44Jesus.
- 1:08:45I know.
- 1:08:46Wait, it'd be a good guy.
- 1:08:49I think it was literally called my daddy is in jail.
- 1:08:54Oh, my God.
- 1:08:56Oh, my God.
- 1:09:01Others focused on highlighting sports figures and important lessons that could be taken away from their successes.
- 1:09:09Because fucking sports, Gananthani, sports and he also wrote a book about the crime itself called Heist and High.
- 1:09:21You know, I like this little H and H thing.
- 1:09:25He's got going on.
- 1:09:27I'm a fan.
- 1:09:28I'm a fan.
- 1:09:29He's also done a TED talk.
- 1:09:31So if you want to go look that up.
- 1:09:35Now, there is a line that I redacted from my notes as I was reading them because I realized that I told you I can't tell you the initials.
- 1:09:46You realize I was only half listening to the rest of the episode.
- 1:09:49I listened to you said that because I was thinking about what that could have been.
- 1:09:53Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:55Okay.
- 1:09:56So don't be forget I have a personal story, but remember I said Woods Creek, which feeds into Skakomish River was closed by.
- 1:10:07So he thought what about escaping on a jet ski and the line that I redacted from my notes was honestly, is that any crazier than the daring escape made by his namesake?
- 1:10:23And Cassie goes, I don't fucking know who's his namesake.
- 1:10:27Who's his namesake?
- 1:10:29So Anthony has been dubbed DBTuber.
- 1:10:36[Laughter]
- 1:10:41And I was trying to come up with a clever way of like making you think that I was going to talk about DB Cooper.
- 1:10:49But you kind of talked yourself into it. I didn't even have to come up with a backstory or like make up.
- 1:10:56How did I know?
- 1:10:58I had no clue what you were going to talk about. How did I just like mention that?
- 1:11:02I have no idea. It was so random, but because I was really trying to think of like, oh my god.
- 1:11:08Okay, so like what kind of like a backstory or like how could I make my notes more like general?
- 1:11:15Just so that she really thinks this is about DB Cooper.
- 1:11:19This could be DB Cooper. Maybe he was DB Cooper.
- 1:11:22I think because he wasn't born until after the crime occurred.
- 1:11:26I don't know. He's pretty.
- 1:11:29He's pretty crafty.
- 1:11:30Look, I'd like to see some like, I'm a machine.
- 1:11:33You know, his disguises are legendary.
- 1:11:39I mean, that's true.
- 1:11:40He could not even be the santa. Yeah, it's true. What if he zips off his Anthony suit?
- 1:11:45He's lizard underneath.
- 1:11:49And we've arrived at lizard people.
- 1:11:52You're welcome. We can end the podcast now. We are done.
- 1:11:58Cheers. Cheers.
- 1:12:00Yes, we should do one last tear.
- 1:12:02Wait, maybe.
- 1:12:05Which I've already written notes for more cases. You're stuck with me.
- 1:12:11All right.
- 1:12:12Okay, well, I would like to refill my glass.
- 1:12:16And I think we should do some tarot, but maybe I will share my personal story.
- 1:12:22Yeah.
- 1:12:23We can get into it.
- 1:12:24Yes.
- 1:12:24Because I do have some other feel good things that I can share for our Patreon as little bonusy bonus for this episode.
- 1:12:33Okay.
- 1:12:34That's more dbtuber fans.
- 1:12:36That is so funny.
- 1:12:38Dbtuber.
- 1:12:39The whole time I was like this, like, it's similar in the craziness aspect.
- 1:12:45It really is.
- 1:12:46The movie like.
- 1:12:48Oh my.
- 1:12:49Oh my.
- 1:12:50It's so cinematic.
- 1:12:51Dbtuber.
- 1:12:52Dbtuber.
- 1:12:53Yeah.
- 1:12:54All right.
- 1:12:55Well, should we.
- 1:12:56Are you going to tell your story now?
- 1:12:58No, I'm going to let's switch over.
- 1:13:00Let's get, yeah, look, I'll do that right before we do the tarot.
- 1:13:07Yeah.
- 1:13:08Dbtuber.
- 1:13:10Hahaha.
- 1:13:11I wonder what that's for you.
- 1:13:18Excellent.
- 1:13:19Oh.
- 1:13:20What do you get?
- 1:13:21The two of cups in reverse.
- 1:13:29Interesting.
- 1:13:30Okay, okay, okay.
- 1:13:31Okay.
- 1:13:32Two of cups are keywords are partnership, harmony, creative exchange and cooperation.
- 1:13:40Hmm.
- 1:13:41I wonder if it does.
- 1:13:42I was like, I don't know about this, but I don't know about reverse.
- 1:13:45I know the uprights a good card.
- 1:13:47Yeah.
- 1:13:48Hmm.
- 1:13:49In many decks, the two of cups shows a man and woman holding chalices as if toasting each
- 1:13:58other.
- 1:13:59The card represents joining forces with someone either romantically or in a creative slash
- 1:14:05spiritual endeavor.
- 1:14:08You share a common dream, interest or passion and can work together to bring it into being.
- 1:14:15Mutual respect and equality exist between you.
- 1:14:20Okay.
- 1:14:23And the two of cups appears reversed.
- 1:14:34It may mean a partnership takes a while to get going or that you run into obstacles.
- 1:14:39Or that all your partners keep ditching you.
- 1:14:41Yeah.
- 1:14:42Exactly.
- 1:14:43In some cases, it indicates dwindling affection, inequality or a lack of supportiveness in
- 1:14:52a relationship.
- 1:14:53You're going to love this.
- 1:14:55In a reading about money, the reverse to can signify an uneven investment of resources.
- 1:15:03Oh, wow.
- 1:15:05It can represent complications or a delay in receiving money, especially from a joint
- 1:15:12venture trust divorce settlement or legacy, which, oh, they get any of those describes.
- 1:15:19Oh, hi.
- 1:15:20Nice.
- 1:15:21Yeah.
- 1:15:22If the reading is about your job, this card may mean you don't feel a business partner as pulling
- 1:15:28his or her weight or you don't get the support you desire.
- 1:15:34You don't get that look out, you know?
- 1:15:37Or you're get away driver's use opening the trunk.
- 1:15:40It goes over.
- 1:15:41It goes over speed bumps.
- 1:15:45Oh, God.
- 1:15:46Oh, God.
- 1:15:51It can also point to a lack of cooperation in your workplace.
- 1:15:56In a reading about love, the reverse to sometimes represents a secretly a's on holy shit.
- 1:16:02Didn't you have like a child bride?
- 1:16:04Yeah.
- 1:16:05Not a bride, but yeah.
- 1:16:06Or it may point to a period of disharmony or cooling affection.
- 1:16:11Perhaps there's a lack of balance or equality in a relationship.
- 1:16:15Yeah, I mean, I'd say so.
- 1:16:18She's a home tended to your chillance and you are in Vegas with your child not bride and
- 1:16:26a bunch of buddies.
- 1:16:27You.
- 1:16:28You.
- 1:16:29You.
- 1:16:30You.
- 1:16:31Apparently, he made up for it if they're still together.
- 1:16:35Yeah.
- 1:16:36Well, it's hope so.
- 1:16:38I just hope she's okay.
- 1:16:39And this whole thing.
- 1:16:40Yeah.
- 1:16:41I hope she's okay.
- 1:16:42And the kids.
- 1:16:43Yeah.
- 1:16:44Exactly.
- 1:16:45I'm just realizing I meant to tell my story before we did the tarot.
- 1:16:53Oh, it's really short.
- 1:16:56So I'll just say this before we sign off.
- 1:17:00I actually worked at Washington, Mutual or WAMU if you're nice before it was bought out by
- 1:17:09Chase.
- 1:17:12In this very time period, actually, during the 2008, 2009 kind of that period of time during
- 1:17:21the sort of financial crisis that many of us remember and not fondly.
- 1:17:29And I actually was there and I was next to a teller that was robbed.
- 1:17:36Oh, God.
- 1:17:38My experience with a bank robbery is that I did not know that we had been robbed until
- 1:17:48people started closing the bank doors.
- 1:17:52And I was like, oh, just going on.
- 1:17:57It is midday.
- 1:17:58Oh, I didn't know that.
- 1:18:01I didn't know that.
- 1:18:03And the teller that I worked with, he tried to give the guy the bait money and he tried pushing
- 1:18:14his button and it turned out that his, they don't call it like a, I don't think they call
- 1:18:19a panic button, but it's like a button that's supposed to kind of like alert the authorities.
- 1:18:28And his wasn't working.
- 1:18:30Oh, God.
- 1:18:33Yes, this particular gentleman had actually robbed a number of banks in the area and he
- 1:18:42was eventually caught.
- 1:18:44I will say this, all of his robberies, he walked away with, I think, less than $5,000 from each
- 1:18:55and every single one of them.
- 1:18:57Oh, wow.
- 1:18:59Nice.
- 1:19:00Yeah, because what happens is you walk up to a teller with a note as this person did and
- 1:19:08you just say, you know, give me the money or however you want to word it.
- 1:19:12And this is not a suggestion or tip.
- 1:19:15This is just how it tends to go down.
- 1:19:19And that person is kind of trying to just act normal because again, like we talked about,
- 1:19:24they have no idea if you're armed.
- 1:19:26They have no idea what your intentions are beyond obviously trying to take money from the
- 1:19:32bank.
- 1:19:34And luckily, I mean, everybody was fine.
- 1:19:38It was a little bit like, I think, you know, people feel a little bit shaken after that.
- 1:19:43Yeah.
- 1:19:44I will say this.
- 1:19:45The most upsetting part of the entire experience is that the policy of the particular financial
- 1:19:54institution that I worked for at the time.
- 1:19:57I can't remember if it was Wamu or if it was Chase at this point.
- 1:20:01So probably they have the same policy.
- 1:20:03But if you were on shift when a robbery occurred, you could make the choice as a team to just
- 1:20:15go ahead and take the rest of the day off and it would be paid.
- 1:20:20My team opted out.
- 1:20:22Why?
- 1:20:23They were like, yeah, no, let's just go back to work.
- 1:20:27Why?
- 1:20:28It's paid.
- 1:20:30Yeah.
- 1:20:31That doesn't make any sense.
- 1:20:34It really does, because they're going to pay you either way.
- 1:20:37And honestly, even though nobody's holding a gun in your face, it is a little bit traumatizing
- 1:20:42to realize that someone came in with that sort of intention and was in your space.
- 1:20:48And we used to make that decision for everybody.
- 1:20:51Like everyone reacts to things differently.
- 1:20:53Literally everyone else decided pretty much to go back to work.
- 1:20:58I think there was one other person that was kind of like quietly in the background, like
- 1:21:02me being one.
- 1:21:03I mean, we could just take the day.
- 1:21:06I'm like, fuck you guys.
- 1:21:07I'm going to go have a min TV.
- 1:21:09Yeah.
- 1:21:10Bye.
- 1:21:11Yeah.
- 1:21:12Yeah.
- 1:21:13But I guess, I don't know.
- 1:21:15Maybe it was like you could do it as an individual and it didn't have to be like the whole
- 1:21:19branch closest down.
- 1:21:20I have no idea.
- 1:21:21This was so many years ago, but yeah, I feel like it should be on an individual basis.
- 1:21:27Not like the whole branch has to take a vote and it has to be like unanimous.
- 1:21:31Yeah.
- 1:21:32Also, it wouldn't have been unanimous.
- 1:21:34Yeah.
- 1:21:35Because your girl would have taken a few hours off.
- 1:21:38Damn, that sucks.
- 1:21:40We're like halfway through the shift for most of us.
- 1:21:43It was kind of like, do they at least like get you guys one?
- 1:21:46Try like don't.
- 1:21:47No, that's our subject.
- 1:21:50And yes, again, I realize nothing violent or obviously traumatizing happened, but like
- 1:21:57the company policy is to like, if you want to, you can take the rest of the day.
- 1:22:03And here's the thing.
- 1:22:05As awful as it is and I certainly wouldn't compare my experience to someone who has been
- 1:22:10in like a more aggressive bank robbery.
- 1:22:15I will say this, there was something so unsettling about having been present for this thing that's
- 1:22:25taking place and having really like no idea.
- 1:22:30Like you're in danger, but you don't know.
- 1:22:32So the now you're at every time you're at work, you're like, am I in danger right now?
- 1:22:36Right.
- 1:22:37I could be.
- 1:22:38Am I in your shot right now?
- 1:22:39Probably.
- 1:22:40Yeah.
- 1:22:41Hopefully not.
- 1:22:42And that was a branch that was very conveniently located to a major highway.
- 1:22:48Oh, yeah.
- 1:22:49I should stop doing that.
- 1:22:51You may be familiar with it.
- 1:22:52It's called the To Well, Jim Valley Highway.
- 1:22:56Oh, yeah.
- 1:22:57Steele, so I've been, I've been there.
- 1:23:00Yeah.
- 1:23:01You've seen it.
- 1:23:02I had phones keep slipping.
- 1:23:04I really, I'm losing it over here.
- 1:23:07No, no.
- 1:23:08I know.
- 1:23:09She's losing her hair.
- 1:23:10Did you finish all of the.
- 1:23:11I did.
- 1:23:12Yeah.
- 1:23:13Are you going to read us from the little butt?
- 1:23:15Let's see what this says.
- 1:23:16It is.
- 1:23:17Usually these are kind of like toward the upright.
- 1:23:20So they are.
- 1:23:21Yeah.
- 1:23:22It might be like a little lovey, but I'll just like glance at it.
- 1:23:26I feel like I had one more thing to say and I can't remember what it was.
- 1:23:30Oh, shoot.
- 1:23:31Well, I probably just rambled on and I don't know.
- 1:23:33No, no, no, it was like.
- 1:23:35What were we talking about right before your story?
- 1:23:38Oh, God.
- 1:23:39This is a memory quiz right now.
- 1:23:42Yeah, well, I think you know already that I fail.
- 1:23:46These are violet green swallows.
- 1:23:50So like there's a lot of green on the thing.
- 1:23:52Green on the thing.
- 1:23:54Green because money.
- 1:23:56Green because you know, he loves money.
- 1:24:00Yeah.
- 1:24:01It's kind of like an invisible string lovers meet type of deal with this little thing.
- 1:24:07I'm sorry.
- 1:24:08Did you say invisible string?
- 1:24:09Yeah.
- 1:24:10As in Taylor Swift's.
- 1:24:11Yeah.
- 1:24:12A visible string song.
- 1:24:13Is that it?
- 1:24:14Do you want me to read this?
- 1:24:15I don't know.
- 1:24:16I mean, it relates to the pod because Taylor Swift.
- 1:24:23Let's just do it.
- 1:24:24It's for fun.
- 1:24:25I'll read it.
- 1:24:26If it's too long.
- 1:24:27If people want to hear it, they can, you know, not listen.
- 1:24:29Right.
- 1:24:30You could go away.
- 1:24:31The swallows is.
- 1:24:33Is it as with an apostrophe?
- 1:24:37How do you say that?
- 1:24:38Swallows.
- 1:24:39Just swallows.
- 1:24:40Yeah.
- 1:24:41Are you sure it's not swallows?
- 1:24:42Yeah.
- 1:24:43Pretty sure.
- 1:24:44How many times can I say swallows?
- 1:24:46Oh, I don't know.
- 1:24:48The swallows paths crossed.
- 1:24:51I said paths really good that time.
- 1:24:54And everything changed for them both.
- 1:24:56Had the wind not carried her a little further than she'd planned to go that day or had yesterday's
- 1:25:02storm not forced him to land early.
- 1:25:04They would never have encountered one another.
- 1:25:07It's kind of like the unhoused guy being like at the right place at the right time.
- 1:25:13Yeah.
- 1:25:14Well, and I think too, it's like all of these little, I mean, all of these invisible streams,
- 1:25:21like all of these things that it's, you know, it's a series of events, right, where Anthony
- 1:25:27really like, I mean, he could have gone away with this.
- 1:25:30But there's like things drawing back to him.
- 1:25:35And I don't know.
- 1:25:37Okay.
- 1:25:38I'm going to let you finish.
- 1:25:39He couldn't quite cut all of the red strings back to him.
- 1:25:41Yeah.
- 1:25:42The red conspiracy string.
- 1:25:43The red strings.
- 1:25:44Not invisible at all.
- 1:25:45Not invisible.
- 1:25:46Not invisible.
- 1:25:47DBTuber.
- 1:25:48Had he not Twitter loudly as he sun bathed, they would never have collected grass or twigs
- 1:25:58or feathers together.
- 1:26:00Had she not swooped past at precisely the right moment to catch his showy display, they
- 1:26:06would not later shape their turning the page.
- 1:26:11Their collection into a cup in that hollow fur.
- 1:26:15Interesting.
- 1:26:16Oh, like, I see.
- 1:26:19They're like stashing things.
- 1:26:21Oh, okay.
- 1:26:22Okay.
- 1:26:23That makes sense.
- 1:26:24And so it's like, okay, that makes me think like to just the idea popped into my head of like
- 1:26:31a nest egg.
- 1:26:32Oh, yeah.
- 1:26:33And like, there's this young family.
- 1:26:35And the two of them just have like this incredible connection where, you know, she's
- 1:26:41released it by him over the years.
- 1:26:44Yeah.
- 1:26:45Well, and he's like trying to like collect this money and like hide it away.
- 1:26:48But then the reason I kind of got sidetracked because I was like his showy display.
- 1:26:54You know, yeah, fucking showy display.
- 1:26:58Oh, God.
- 1:27:01Had her first return display to him, not complemented the choreography of his own, they
- 1:27:07would never have bonded or laid eggs or incubated them or hunted for insects to feed their
- 1:27:14brood.
- 1:27:15Oh, he was hunting for insects, you guys to feed his brood.
- 1:27:20Yeah.
- 1:27:21Plus some little other.
- 1:27:23Some other extra curriculars.
- 1:27:26But all those things conspired to occur, whether through chance, serendipity, or fate, their
- 1:27:34paths didn't just cross, they converged.
- 1:27:38Converged.
- 1:27:39Yeah.
- 1:27:40I feel like that's a great word.
- 1:27:41Yeah.
- 1:27:42Oh boy.
- 1:27:43That was good.
- 1:27:44Okay.
- 1:27:45That was good.
- 1:27:46I'm glad to read that.
- 1:27:47Yeah.
- 1:27:48Me too.
- 1:27:49Well, it's better than I thought it would be.
- 1:27:52Sometimes they're a little like fluffy.
- 1:27:54Yeah.
- 1:27:55That was better.
- 1:27:56Yeah.
- 1:27:57How good was it?
- 1:27:58It was so good.
- 1:27:59It was so good.
- 1:28:00I do have a little like Patreon mini-sode, just some little like add on things that I found
- 1:28:08related to this case that only fit in neatly and we're probably already running long
- 1:28:15for this episode.
- 1:28:16So I'm going to take this over to the page.
- 1:28:20Okay.
- 1:28:21The Pates.
- 1:28:22The Pates.
- 1:28:23I don't know.
- 1:28:24The Pates.
- 1:28:25I've heard people call Patreon the Pates.
- 1:28:26You know what?
- 1:28:27It's a thing.
- 1:28:28Okay.
- 1:28:29You know what?
- 1:28:30I was thinking the other day of like what's a cool like word for Patreon that's like not taken.
- 1:28:34Yeah.
- 1:28:35I don't know why I was just like randomly cleaning and just like thinking about you guys.
- 1:28:39I'm like how cool you are and you deserve a cool name.
- 1:28:43So I don't know.
- 1:28:44I didn't know.
- 1:28:45I didn't know.
- 1:28:46Like it came up with nothing.
- 1:28:47But I hear what was shit.
- 1:28:48I was shivering about you.
- 1:28:49I was like, what?
- 1:28:50The thought count.
- 1:28:51It's the best of intentions like for a real though.
- 1:28:57Like we can call them like, I didn't really have anything in mind.
- 1:29:03She's like, I got nothing.
- 1:29:05I was like, even if I start to say something will come to happen.
- 1:29:09So what's that happen?
- 1:29:10Yeah.
- 1:29:11I mean sometimes it works that way and then sometimes it really, really don't.
- 1:29:15Yeah.
- 1:29:16I love it.
- 1:29:20We've had some pretty good luck coming across like fun nicknames for different things.
- 1:29:25And yeah.
- 1:29:26I'm sure we'll come up with something.
- 1:29:28For now you're just our creepypay trail people and that's you know, your CPP that's fine.
- 1:29:34CPP.
- 1:29:35CPP.
- 1:29:36I'm dead.
- 1:29:37We have to go.
- 1:29:38All right.
- 1:29:39Look at that.
- 1:29:40I'm just I'm going to take the time.
- 1:29:41I'm dead.
- 1:29:48We have to go.
- 1:29:51All right.
- 1:29:52I'm just I'm going to devolve into giggles.
- 1:29:53They won't be like, they're not camera ready.
- 1:29:54Okay.
- 1:29:55Let's say that we think that we think that we think.
- 1:29:57Let's let's do our thing that we think she's really on a thing right now.
- 1:30:03Have a creepy ass day
- 1:30:04See you next Tuesday or whenever you go to tubing.
- 1:30:10I was going to say like unless you like missed your stop on the inner tube and you just like
- 1:30:16have floating out into the ocean, the ocean, your one bag of money because you lost the
- 1:30:21other.
- 1:30:23And then you just live amongst the fishes and you turn into a merman.
- 1:30:28I don't know like maybe you do just like stop off when you hit the sand wands.
- 1:30:32I don't know.
- 1:30:33Where's that?
- 1:30:35It's like the the sand one islands are in the future sound.
- 1:30:39Can you be a mermaid there?
- 1:30:41I mean, yeah, you can do whatever you want.
- 1:30:43Okay.
- 1:30:44I really think that if you just keep going on the inner tube and make it to the ocean because
- 1:30:49all cricks lead to the ocean and then you turn into a merman and live with all your
