- 8:44[SPEAKER_09]: And that's seven a year on average.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, we did Harry Chapin, the first show we did.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_10]: And then after that, my God, there was so many great performers we had, Willie Nelson, the Redwood, and then the Beach Boys and my God on and on.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_10]: Chicago was fantastic.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_10]: It's been a wonderful experience.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_09]: What was the first one?
- 9:10[SPEAKER_09]: Harry Chapin.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_09]: Harry Chapin, that was up at the college.

- 9:47[SPEAKER_10]: He was such a giving person, Jeff.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_09]: He seemed like a nice guy, great songcats in the cradle, silver spoon.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, yes.

- 9:54[SPEAKER_09]: There you go.

- 9:57[SPEAKER_10]: You know the 30,000 pounds of bananas?
- 10:00[SPEAKER_09]: You don't know that one, but have you noticed the stuff you remember when you get older, Joe?
- 10:06[SPEAKER_09]: Then it's totally mean that there is so much crammed in our heads at this point.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_10]: Look at this, right?
- 10:11[SPEAKER_09]: But it's interesting.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_09]: Well, that's great.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_09]: And if 350 concerts, something yet Willie Nelson, yet a lot of names.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_10]: Yes, we had just about everybody.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_10]: You could think of, tell me why not.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_10]: And George Jones, meetloaf, meetloaf was fantastic.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_10]: Is he nice guy?
- 10:32[SPEAKER_10]: Greek guy.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_10]: But what happened was after the show, he went behind the stage and just laid out flat prom.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_10]: So the agent is with me, Jeff.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_10]: And he said, I said to him, there must be something wrong with meetloaf.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_10]: Look at him.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_10]: He said, oh, don't worry, Joey does that after every show.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_09]: Well, he died shortly after that, didn't he?
- 10:56[SPEAKER_10]: He had, well, you know, a couple of years.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I remember that.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_09]: And he, he thirded, was that one of yours?
- 11:03[SPEAKER_10]: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, cargo was fantastic.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, they had them in twice.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_09]: Mm-hmm.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_10]: Um, some, so many.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_09]: Victor Borgah.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, do you remember Victor Borgah?
- 11:17[SPEAKER_09]: He was on the early ones.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_10]: Did you see that one?
- 11:20[SPEAKER_09]: I probably saw a lot of I don't know.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_09]: I was all blurted together.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_10]: Victor Borgah was fantastic.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_10]: You know, I was very skinny back then.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_10]: And Victor Borgah walked on stage and he walked into this standing microphone.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_10]: He said, Oh, excuse me, Mr. Rich.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_09]: there.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_09]: Well, you were before you got involved in this and you're your legendary for your concerts and DPAO, for all the help it gives developmentally disabled people, but you were a celebrity before that on Wattfun Radio, right?
- 11:53[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, yeah.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, yeah.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_10]: I was at Wattfun from 1963, where I did the very first hotline show.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_11]: Mm-hmm.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_10]: I might add.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_10]: Wow, there you go.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_09]: you've been at it for how many years now since ninety three uh... uh... now who did the show after you was a done Alexander or dave kady kady okay he was up from up on pdm and potstammer you know he was at what for quite a while really yeah he did a good you remember michael e Wilson and all those people and uh... all the other folks who were there uh... who else was there
- 12:34[SPEAKER_09]: I'm just trying to think of the one who just passed away recently out in Texas there.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, just a great cadre of people there.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_09]: And I actually was there.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_09]: At one point they did water town.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know what it was.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_09]: Some kind of semi-pro baseball team or something.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_09]: I was doing color for that along with.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_09]: a groupie was the guy's first name.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know if it was a Tony or yeah and we did game.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_09]: I remember we did games all over the place and Charlie McCarger was in that league and all of that yeah good player there.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_09]: So that was kind of an interesting thing and I guess that was my first
- 13:11[SPEAKER_09]: Well, I had done work at public TV before that on a, you know, kind of a high school basis, but, you know, that was the first time somebody paid me to talk, which was nice.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_10]: Who's that right?
- 13:21[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_09]: That's a long time.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_09]: And then you went to Channel 7, right?
- 13:26[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_10]: That would be 1966.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_10]: Mm-hmm.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_10]: And there was a, well, even or not, there was a, I signed this non-competitive clause.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_10]: and so it went to went all the way to Supreme Court and they ruled finally in my favor.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_09]: Wow.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_10]: So I could work at, I didn't have to pay the legal bill thank God for that.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, the Johnson's pay that?
- 13:54[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, well, they had a lot of them.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_10]: They were very supportive, you know.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_10]: John B. Johnson.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, he's a great guy.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_09]: I remember the first time I ran for Mayor, this is the John Johnson that's passed away.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_09]: Not the one who said that.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_09]: But I remember John,
- 14:11[SPEAKER_10]: uh... great guy mr. Johnson someone he was the one i went to mhm when polling the NATO came to the station right met with me and said joe by son rani has been shot
- 14:25[SPEAKER_10]: and left totally paralyzed, he was spying, spying was severed, and he's destined to stay in the hospitals the rest of his life.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_10]: And I asked Mr. Johnson, would be okay if I started to do a community effort to try to help the family.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_10]: The community did this, I didn't.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_10]: He put an addition on his home over on Lillian Street.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_10]: and boasts was there helping with that and uh... but anyway he lived to be forty three years old and Pauline de Nato was still going strong uh... she worked twenty four seven just caring for you i remember that i remember at my new Pauline as well uh... great story there and a channel seven you sort of covered the stories of our life you you were there
- 15:20[SPEAKER_09]: Well, the Egan murder was just before, but you covered that.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, yes.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_10]: I was at what then.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_09]: And that was out on Route 81.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_09]: Did you know the Egan's or anything about him?
- 15:30[SPEAKER_10]: No, I knew a little bit about them, but they didn't.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_09]: There was a real underworld in town back then, wasn't it?
- 15:35[SPEAKER_10]: Well, there was.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_10]: It was too bad they had to kill Barbara, you know, and they killed the dog, too, didn't they?
- 15:42[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, they did.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_09]: So there were three killed, or four, or three.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_10]: there were three killed three adults killed.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_10]: Peter was Peter.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_10]: He could um, barber.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_10]: He could.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_09]: And they tried to pin it on somebody.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_09]: But he got a quitted, right?
- 15:58[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, uh, Joe Leone was one.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_10]: He was not the one currently a water town.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_10]: The other Joe Leone.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_10]: And um, yeah.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_09]: You think he did it?
- 16:10[SPEAKER_09]: But you can't say, you can't say.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_09]: All right.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_09]: Well, anyway, that was an interesting era.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_09]: And then you're covered the Isack murder.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_09]: And that was kind of a mystery at the time.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_09]: I wasn't an editor.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_09]: I wasn't a mystery to people who knew what went on.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_09]: But you weren't supposed to talk about it.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_09]: Was that the deal there?
- 16:29[SPEAKER_10]: No, because the family is still here.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_10]: They're son.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_10]: Mike and Bob retired in the state police and they're in town doing wonderfully well.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_10]: And Bev is doing great as well as wife.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_10]: So it hurts them when I talk about it, you know, you know, but you know, you know the story.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, well, it's been books written on it.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, three books.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_09]: Three books.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_09]: That's a lot.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_09]: That's a lot.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_09]: Hey, we got somebody calling in.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_09]: Let's see who it is.

- 17:27[SPEAKER_09]: Let me try to.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_09]: You go ahead and talk and I'll.

- 17:37[SPEAKER_08]: pain in the book for Mr. Rich was Robert Gouley.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_08]: Is that correct?
- 17:40[SPEAKER_10]: Apparently his white little big pain.

- 17:45[SPEAKER_10]: If you want me to I will.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_08]: And I wanted to ask you about, you spent a day in 64 with Bobby Kennedy.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_08]: Is that correct, Mr. Rich?
- 17:56[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, you know a lot about me.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah, one of my heroes has a child.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_08]: I got a picture of my my wall.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_08]: If anything, you could tell us.

- 18:04[SPEAKER_09]: anything you could tell us about Bobby Kennedy I appreciate it all right thank you we will so I'm here okay what about Senator Kennedy in 19 well he's running for Senate in 64 against Anthony Keating right Senator Keating.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_10]: Senator Keating was a wonderful person too but for some reason Jeff Bobby Kennedy liked me and I don't know why but we left the airport and he said Joe command right with me and I'm
- 18:32[SPEAKER_10]: He took the back road from 12th coming in, and he said, boy, I'd love to get on that black river with my kayak.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_10]: He said, and then we stopped at St.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_10]: Anthony's school.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_10]: There was a church there, but also a school.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_10]: And he said, Joe, come on, let's run over there.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_10]: So I followed him, we ran over to St.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_10]: Anthony's school.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_10]: And a sister answered, saw Bobby Kennedy,
- 19:01[SPEAKER_10]: and collapsed, it is arms.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_09]: Wow, got to hold your nut in there, that's good.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_09]: Well, well, he was, so in 1968, when he was assassinated, what was your reaction?
- 19:17[SPEAKER_10]: It felt horrible, because I know what he would hit up in a very good president, because he stood for all the right values.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_10]: I was heartbroken.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_09]: What do you think of his son now?
- 19:36[SPEAKER_10]: Well, he's got some novel ideas.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_10]: But I don't know about the vaccines, Jesus.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_09]: Well, I don't know either.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_09]: But he killed that bear in the life-titten central park.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_09]: That was a big story.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_10]: I didn't know that.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, yeah.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_09]: That was a big story at one time.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_09]: And Robert Guley, if you could just summarize that.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_10]: Well, here's the story I'm Robert Gullay.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_10]: My wife did not even go to the show.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_10]: She was so upset.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_10]: First of all, his wife calls me and says this, what makes you think you're good enough to have Robert Gullay in Watertown, New York?
- 20:20[SPEAKER_10]: I said, because we're paying him, what he wants.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_10]: And she said, not good enough.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_10]: He doesn't stand anything less than a high at Regency.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_10]: What do you have?
- 20:32[SPEAKER_10]: And I said, bruvulu, what did you say?
- 20:36[SPEAKER_10]: Ramada, so she said, what she ended up making me do?
- 20:43[SPEAKER_10]: And Sandy's petola was there at the time.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_10]: And Gordon Silver, so he was there.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_10]: And have a joining room, we had to take out,
- 20:55[SPEAKER_10]: all the bad even stuff at all the beds I've never and put a living room furniture and then he wanted me to set up a trailer outside of the high school and in that trailer he wanted jumbo shrimp and he wanted to smoke a cigar as his wife said and so as it came to pass
- 21:23[SPEAKER_10]: I got very upset.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_10]: Then we went through my wife and I measured, they asked us to measure the sink in the bathroom and all that stuff.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_10]: And Carol got really upset and didn't go to the show with tremendous show, by the way.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_10]: But anyway, so she says to me, well, wait a minute now, there's two beds here.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_10]: And I want you to know Robert and I sleep together
- 21:50[SPEAKER_10]: Who's going to be in the other bed?
- 21:52[SPEAKER_10]: I'm upset now.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_10]: I said, I am.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_10]: She said, you don't have enough money to sleep in the other bed.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_10]: I'm not a slammer at money.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_10]: It was up here.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, yeah.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_10]: A lot of people said, a lot of the most exciting part of this show was when this zipper broke.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_09]: You didn't have tiny Tim here, did ya?
- 22:13[SPEAKER_10]: No, we did.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_09]: Never did, get tiny Tim or something.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_10]: No, we, yeah.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_09]: Okay, was Cosby here at all or?
- 22:20[SPEAKER_10]: Yes, he was.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_10]: Before the free show, I got pictures of him with the nuns.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_09]: Well, you can't show it, I was in public now, no.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_09]: That was something.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_09]: Well, anyway, and of course, you had Alan Jackson, he was another one.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, she's from the show, no.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_10]: There we go.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_10]: big a show we bus people in and at the time Rob Freeman a Freeman bus gave us twenty two buses bus bus people in they parked over at different locations we picked them up and brought them to the concert the fairgrounds and can't get that out of the current bus company probably like we're going to take this one call and we got to do a break good after
- 23:13[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, he can't know that it really a bad thing.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_07]: It's my name's Mike Joyce.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_07]: Same height.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_07]: Appreciate you having on today.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_07]: And I wanted to, like, there's two stories.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_07]: One obviously is the BAO which is separate.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_07]: And talking about the concerts, when they use that term, pulling the block, I was like, Mike Todd, how can you use that term on a career like that?
- 23:32[SPEAKER_07]: Because I've known Joe since his WOTD days when I was in the music business, just to call him that station.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_07]: And it was in the ball with it.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_07]: Well, it all was things back then.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_07]: what Joe did over 50 years is mind blowing.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_07]: I mean a small place and upstate in the Europe has the biggest names and show business every year.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_07]: I mean that's on herd of anywhere in the country.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_07]: And I heard a comment that, you know, well, it's harder now.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, you know, once more difficult works.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_07]: But it was shockingly hard back then for Joe.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_07]: And I just wanted to say, Joe, I'm going to reach out to the North Country Music Project.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_07]: Because when you talk about the history of music in the North country, you should be near the top of that list.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, whether you call the career Paul Fain or Lifetime Achievement, Joe, I've been all over the country in the music business, as you know.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_07]: I've never seen an area do what you did in the concert business.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_07]: So congratulations.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_07]: It's an achievement.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_09]: good god nobody would want to follow you in that and check me that is so hard to do so all right thanks mister drives appreciate it okay thank you buddy all right Michael Joyce and we got to take a break here Joe and let us recharge the batteries and back with more in the moment the news and talk authority WATM 244

- 28:11[SPEAKER_09]: I got that right this time, right?
- 28:13[SPEAKER_09]: And all of that, you know, Joe, you used to cover City Council meetings, right?
- 28:19[SPEAKER_09]: as a reporter.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_09]: Sure.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_09]: What do you think of it now?
- 28:24[SPEAKER_10]: I better not comment.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_10]: No, it's it's different now.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_10]: Right?
- 28:32[SPEAKER_10]: It's not the same as it once was when you you were there.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_10]: You had some wonderful kind of memory.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_09]: Remember when Carl burns after the meetings were take everybody over to the Oriental village.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_09]: It was in part of your era, Bob Strom all those people, and they used to just get together and talk and everything, and it wasn't all this carrying on that there is now.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_09]: Now they had to put a new security door up at the mayor's office because they're afraid something they'll get in there, and it's just a...
- 28:59[SPEAKER_09]: a different world entirely and in many ways not a better one um i don't think uh everyone somebody would announce for a city council race it was a big deal was an honor oh yeah now it's like they barely get any petitions or they barely campaign and i watch last night's meeting and they barely know what's going on i mean it really isn't
- 29:22[SPEAKER_09]: not very flattering, and I guess we were there during the Golden Days.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_09]: Well, I have to ask, I don't want these shorts to feel slided here.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_09]: You're a resident grew up on the Patterson Road, right outside of Watertown.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_09]: Famous farming family.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_09]: That's... Yes.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_09]: It's okay to say that.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_09]: just to help locate where he came from.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_09]: And you're now running the foundation.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_09]: How is that different from the agency?
- 29:52[SPEAKER_25]: It is.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_25]: Yes.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_25]: The agency is where all this services have.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_25]: That's over on Cooper Street or David.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_25]: David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David
- 30:10[SPEAKER_09]: Yes, you know Bill, Bill much less.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_09]: Oh Bill in the cost.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, Jim is the president of DPO.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, well, he's running for judge, you know Really like the judge, right?
- 30:21[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, yeah, same one.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, well, I just thought I'd mention his name there Thank you just to help him out a little Because he's kind of like eight people running for four seats, so it's tough race for him
- 30:34[SPEAKER_09]: And a couple of them, well, anyway.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_09]: We go, yes, we go, Yutica, all of that stuff.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_09]: You remember judges back then?
- 30:44[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, yeah.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_09]: They always used to say, with certain courts that you better get there in the morning, because once they all went to the Black River Valley Club, justice was different in the unions.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_09]: So, but there certainly are a lot of judge angle heart that was tried.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_09]: I remember I still run into Judge Gilbert.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_09]: He's looking good.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_09]: So you're going to see him.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_10]: member Jones Hudson Hudson.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_09]: Well, I remember his, um, show this to you, Joe.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_09]: I'll just try to talk when I'm doing it.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_09]: But he was a mayor back around 1950 for a turn.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_09]: And of course, he and his wife lived over on, uh, was welcome right next to the fire station at real nice house.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_11]: Okay.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_09]: Well, anyway, he passed away early in my first term.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_09]: And I went over there, you know, to express regret, so whatever the miss is Hudson.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_09]: And later she called me, why do you need to come over and she gave me this?
- 31:44[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, isn't this?
- 31:46[SPEAKER_09]: Which is a badge, mayor with the city sealer.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_09]: Probably the only, um, it's probably the only one if it's kind anywhere, um,
- 32:01[SPEAKER_09]: I bought one of those top-type wallets, hope I'm not impersonating an officer here, but nice.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_09]: It is kind of a novel to you back when an era when I think people were more respected than they are now, and I thought it was very nice of Mrs. Hudson to do that, and lovely woman, and didn't know her too well, but for the people you had a mirror like Tom Walker and Mabel and so on, Mabel didn't like me when I got elected.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_09]: No, no, she thought I was like,
- 32:29[SPEAKER_09]: But I think she liked me before she passed.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_09]: So I think things changed there.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_09]: And of course, all of Carl Burns, Ted Rand, remember Ted?
- 32:39[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_09]: And with it, he had a hat shop like Harry Truman, right?
- 32:43[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, yeah, right on our cage street.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_09]: Right on our cage street.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_09]: And all of that stuff.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_09]: So anyway, I shouldn't be reminiscing too much.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_09]: The foundation, you need money, I bet, right?
- 32:56[SPEAKER_25]: Yes, so got to the trace.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_25]: Yeah, it's okay.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_25]: So...
- 33:02[SPEAKER_25]: Because we are not going to be doing concerts in 2026, we have chosen to do events that are lower risk.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_25]: Because the concerts, you know, were riskier.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_25]: They're costly.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_25]: And at the end of the day, our purpose is to support the agency, to fundraise for them.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_25]: So we have chosen in 2026 to do lower financial risk events that are community driven.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_25]: And we are so going to need our sponsors.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_25]: We're still going to be looking to the community to hopefully support us and support our mission.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_25]: So we have, we started the share, our first annual golf tournament, which was a great start.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_25]: We're going to build on that for next year.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_09]: What course you're holding it at?
- 33:51[SPEAKER_25]: Okay nine holds eighteen holds you know the controversies We're maybe looking at the rustic next year.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, what what?
- 34:00[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, I think the rustic.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, I'd start right out near Billy's house Right, yes, okay Talk about Billy what a wonderful.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_09]: Oh my god president Prince of our guy.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, well, we had him on the show one day Nobody knows more about cars and Billy compare well.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_09]: I mean You know his brother will say otherwise, but yeah
- 34:18[SPEAKER_10]: Um, but what a God sent He's been to the agency, you know, you know, here's a busy guy in Watertown, just hoping to do a story, Binghamton, and he spends so much time with Trisha every day, and he calls me at least once a day, I don't know what we do without Billy Cooper.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_09]: Well, you remember Frank, of course, of cool Frank, and I guess I remember with the fan, I was, I got a job out there.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_09]: when I was being harranged by some people and it was like payday so it's my first payday so Frank always sat up in the sales office and you know ruminated about things but I went up there to get my paycheck from Brad or whoever was in charge of that day and he answered to me and Frank says, Mary could you hold that a couple days and I'm a little short and I said well yes Mr. Cooper I really have a good voice you know that type of thing
- 35:17[SPEAKER_09]: It was just a nice place to work.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_09]: I enjoyed it.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, I don't think I could make a life selling cars.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_09]: That's hard work and I'm not akin to hard work now.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_09]: But, you know, great guy, Frank and Charlie, and of course, Bill Allen, oh my god, Allen, great.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_10]: She's wonderful.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_09]: They buy and sell houses like to go out of style.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_09]: Every time I turn around, they're moving to something new.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_09]: And we're in Florida, and from the bay, and then they had that beautiful one over on,
- 35:44[SPEAKER_09]: was a whole come street with a stone fence.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, that was gorgeous what they did there.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_09]: And all the city could worry about is their science fence or you know, I mean, it's just like give me a break.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_25]: I want to give a shout out we have added some new board members.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_25]: And I know it's been tremendously supportive and just moving into our new who are they?
- 36:07[SPEAKER_10]: Tremendous.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_25]: Bruce Borgio.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_25]: Bruce Borgio is our.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_10]: He's a stock.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_10]: He's president.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_10]: You know Bruce.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_10]: Oh, yeah.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_25]: Rebecca Barney from our Thanksgiving's Robin Stevenson.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_25]: Jeff West has been on the board.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_25]: Yep.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_25]: We have we have Derek Lane from Carthole.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_25]: Yeah, or the whole tree, I guess I go it now.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_25]: I'm trying to go around the room.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_25]: Who am I missing?
- 36:34[SPEAKER_25]: Pam, Pam, Helen, who's been on our board.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_25]: Yeah.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_10]: Ross, go, I know.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, is he still around?
- 36:41[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, he's doing great.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_09]: Good.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_25]: Billie Jean Warner.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_25]: She's on her board.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_25]: She's been a great addition.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_09]: I work out in his office because he was on Sherman Street with Mike.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_09]: And that's now a physical training place for rehab and so on.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_09]: So that's where I go.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_09]: So I figure I must have worked out in Roscoe's office.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_10]: Will you mention Pam?
- 37:03[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, I did.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, good.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_09]: All right.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_09]: Well, that's great.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_09]: That's great.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_09]: Glad to see you doing well.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_09]: And now I know over on Davidson Street, you've got the main building, and you've got the one next door.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, before I left, I did three no buildings.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_10]: The one on the one that was built in the 1850.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_10]: Right.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_10]: That's the old administrative building.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_09]: It's a north side league at one point.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_10]: And it was, it was, yeah.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_10]: And before that,
- 37:32[SPEAKER_10]: It was the first sacred heart church in the 1950.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_09]: Wow, it's too bad.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_09]: You know, you look at those institutions like the church, obviously it's underutilized now.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_09]: You got to place out back where the priest live, and they still got priest there.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, the missionaries, and then, you know, I look at the north side and permanently go around middle, I say, what the heck happened there?
- 37:57[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_10]: Who's in there now?
- 37:59[SPEAKER_09]: Do you know?
- 37:59[SPEAKER_09]: Nobody.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_09]: I don't do anything.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_09]: Um, but that's too bad.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, obviously, that was of an era for apps and maybe not needed anymore, but still it's a beautiful building Um, what else is on the North side?
- 38:15[SPEAKER_09]: BJ's Tamver and you ever go there?
- 38:17[SPEAKER_09]: Phil Bajali and all of that got to mention him.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_09]: The mayor's buyers, and we'd like to say that, but not too loud.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_09]: I don't want to get in trouble for promoting myself.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_10]: No, I am.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_09]: So, okay, well, you can do it all you want.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_09]: The, what else is there going in?
- 38:34[SPEAKER_09]: Well, what were the other buildings you put up?
- 38:36[SPEAKER_09]: You got those?
- 38:36[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_10]: There's a free standing respite that's the new building right next to.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_10]: And that's.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_10]: call the day have building that across the way in times of street.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_10]: We have a building there as well.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_10]: And that's for overnight respite for families gives mom and dad a chance to go shopping right have some time off.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_10]: And then we also did one Jeff in Lewis County on Route 26, almost right across from state police, beautiful building there.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, because it's a big strain on a family, even with all the facilities nowadays, caring for someone with those kind of disabilities.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_10]: Some are behavior, it's really bad.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, well, you do a great job, and you know, you're health-out as part of it all,
- 39:29[SPEAKER_10]: One thing I wanted to mention is that a lot of people give me credit for a lot of things, but it's never been me.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_10]: It's been people like Trisha, people like Billy Caprera, like we just mentioned, but also over the years, the staff Jeff that we had was just tremendous.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_10]: We had 150 employees.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_10]: Wow.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_09]: Well, you don't couple years back when I was in the hospital, if I did 139 days, which is pretty good story.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_09]: But, yeah.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_09]: And, uh,
- 40:05[SPEAKER_09]: But I just, it's a whole different perspective on the people who take care of you and what you add into having to depend on people for that you took for granted before.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_10]: Right.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_09]: And it's quite a, you know, it's just some great people along your way.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_09]: I was very good.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_09]: Remember all the names, but you like to mention them here, but just some great people.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_09]: Well, let's take a break here and we'll be back with more of our DPA of show in a moment.

- 43:54[SPEAKER_09]: We really get to me.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_09]: We were talking to the break about our good friend Scott Gray.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_09]: Scott Gray was at the council meeting last night, and I don't know why, but he was spotted sitting in the front row and
- 44:06[SPEAKER_09]: everybody's talking now at least in political circles about maybe he'll run for Congress when staphonic but i've heard that i haven't had anything official yeah i figured if anybody would know you'd know would he would he be going against staphonic no no i mean she's gonna run for governor and uh... you know he'd be running in that seat because he's got a home in uh...
- 44:28[SPEAKER_09]: Harrisville area, I think on Lake Bonaparte, so he could easily register over in the 21st district.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_09]: So I didn't know if you would hurt anything, but we keep hearing that rumor.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_09]: And we like to keep on.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I was also saying that a couple of weeks ago, friend of mine, retired and I wanted to send some flowers.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_09]: I couldn't think of who'd even a call, because it would graze out.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_09]: And some nice lady, backyard blooms or something, she brought her
- 44:58[SPEAKER_09]: It's just not like the old days where you can call any one of a number of florists right right and that type of thing and Fisher maybe you're too young to remember this, but it was it used to be a time When if the florist truck were driving up to your house, you felt pretty special.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_25]: Yeah, no, I remember those days
- 45:17[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, now you just got a by-flowers for yourself at the grand union.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_09]: That's about it.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_09]: Um, all right.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_09]: Well, anyway, you wanted to talk about, uh, really?
- 45:29[SPEAKER_09]: Willie Nelson.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_09]: Yes.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_10]: Before I do that.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_10]: Before I do that, why don't you do what you wanted to do?
- 45:35[SPEAKER_09]: You want to talk about something else?
- 45:37[SPEAKER_25]: Oh, man.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_25]: I did want to mention we have a couple of raffles going on with a DPO.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know if we can advertise right off.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_25]: Oh, okay.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_09]: I'm sorry.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_25]: No, no problem.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_25]: What's the weather?
- 45:49[SPEAKER_25]: Why don't you go read ahead?
- 45:50[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_09]: But I hope people buy the ticket.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_25]: No, that's okay.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_25]: Yeah.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_10]: We had really in five different times.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_10]: And it seems as though whenever they did farm aid and he was at his last you'd always come to water town to do a show for us for the kids.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_10]: So this one occasion.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_10]: I didn't like him to see me there because he'd want me to come on the bus.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_10]: And so this one time I skirted around, but he had an outside speaker on the bus.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_10]: Joe, I see you out there, come on the bus, well I couldn't even see Willie.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_10]: There was so much smoke, you know, Willie enjoyed his
- 46:35[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_09]: One talk over the line.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_09]: Sweet Jesus is the song says.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_09]: Well, life's great.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_10]: And so whatever happened, what happened was this, he had me sitting there blowing smoke in my face for about an hour.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_09]: You must have got a contact.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_09]: Hi.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_10]: I did.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_10]: I did.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_10]: He kept cutting things out.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_10]: And so what happens, he says,
- 47:00[SPEAKER_10]: gave me a thousand dollars.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_10]: He said, Joe, I want this to go to your respite house.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_10]: I've been reading about everything.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_10]: I said, Willie, you can't afford to give me a thousand dollars.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_10]: You owe the IRS $40 million.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_10]: He said, he said, keep Joe, come here.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_10]: He said, I got more than that buried.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_10]: And then his sister came up.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_10]: She was in the band.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_10]: She says, he's not kidding.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_09]: There you go.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_09]: Well, that's great.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_09]: Great to hear there.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_09]: And goodness gracious.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_09]: Now, you're ending the concerts.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_09]: I'm not sure we got into the reason, but the reason is money, really, right?
- 47:39[SPEAKER_09]: The cost of the shows is prohibitive.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_10]: If we were to bring in even moderately popular concerts, the cost is unbelievable.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_10]: So we've got to be fed some tough years with COVID in one.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_10]: Billy's doing his best to try to get us on the black somewhere solid and Trisha's right there every day trying to her best.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_10]: And so that's where things are, but now we're transitioning to this, you know, I feel so good Jeff, I'm 84 years old, and I feel so good that that
- 48:19[SPEAKER_10]: people like Billy and a great board of directors as we had mentioned, you know, are there to see us through in the future.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I believe, well, you never know who you're buying a car from, when you get them from Caprera, it's because there's so many of them, but yeah, I remember last
- 48:39[SPEAKER_09]: spring or something, Billy wanted me to test drive this electric challenger, I think it was Dodge Challenger or Charger, one of the two, and I was going to do it it was early April, but it was snowing that day, it doesn't normally do that, and so I don't want to drive that car on the snow and wreck it or something, so I just happened to go down the
- 48:56[SPEAKER_09]: Honda and ended up getting one of their electric cars there the problem so I really love it But I always wish I had had a chance to drive that charger and I didn't want him to impose on him to see what it's like or anything But it sounded like a you know a nice car.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_09]: So yeah, that's a Billy story.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_09]: A lot of a great Billy stories Okay, we got a call.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_09]: We'll do that.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_09]: Good afternoon here Hello, hi Hi It's

- 50:03[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_09]: Hey, is this the Phil Reed who's the county legislator?
- 50:06[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_09]: The same one, oh, okay.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_09]: It's just fun to say hi.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, I would say you were always.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_09]: I would see you in a while.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_09]: You're not running for assembly when Scott runs for Congress, area.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_13]: I can't resist the temptation Joe when politicians I have to ask more questions Joe Joe thanks you thank you again and look forward to seeing you again and congratulations on everything that you've done and accomplished in our our kids are certainly better for it and you know we have taken advantage of the rest of the house it's a very special place and you and your team have done a great job and
- 50:49[SPEAKER_13]: Just let the community know that he's a lot more for the disabled community than what he lets on, you should see it when you talk about rock stars, you should see when he walks through the DPO.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_09]: Oh yeah, I remember.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_09]: I remember.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_09]: Well, Phil, thank you so much.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_13]: Shout out.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_13]: And I'll let you finish on the rest of the show.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_09]: Thanks, Phil.

- 51:50[SPEAKER_10]: Oh yeah.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_10]: We hope we want to bring it in.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_09]: The shit.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_09]: Did you have like women's wrestling too?
- 51:55[SPEAKER_09]: Or like Ronda Rosy and those times?
- 51:57[SPEAKER_10]: Not too much of that though.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_09]: All people would like that.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_10]: I think so too.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_09]: So many tried old midget wrestling recently, did you get any blowback for that?
- 52:08[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, some people object to use of midgets in that way.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_10]: Well, there was some of that, but actually, we were doing them a favor.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_25]: they had asked if they could do a cut do one for us okay it didn't work out right Trish yeah we had a contract issue that they did not file with a dark state in time for the wrestling permit and canceled on us so it was very unfortunate Yeah I was here about celebrities want like a special color jelly bean in a room or something like that did you have any of that stuff yeah you know blue oyster cult
- 52:47[SPEAKER_10]: when we had them up in the pasta and they were saying we went brown jelly beans and bread jelly beans.
