Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Fly from Midtown Manhattan.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Here comes the Mark Simone Show on seven Wall. Well, oh,
- 0:12Speaker 2: we got a lot to get to today, a lot
- 0:14Speaker 2: of things happening. We bring you all the latest on
- 0:16Speaker 2: Rob Reiner, on Brown University, on Australia, and then we'll
- 0:20Speaker 2: get to of course Trump, the political stuff. We'll get
- 0:24Speaker 2: to all of that coming up. We'll get to New York,
- 0:26Speaker 2: we'll get to the tourists, we'll get to Epstein, we'll
- 0:29Speaker 2: get to twenty twenty eight, and all sorts of stuff
- 0:32Speaker 2: to talk about. The Rob Reiner well, you know, it's
- 0:36Speaker 2: the whole weekend was strange. It wasn't much of a
- 0:38Speaker 2: big news weekend, and then all of a sudden you
- 0:40Speaker 2: had Australia the terrible shooting. Then you had Brown University
- 0:45Speaker 2: the terrible shooting, and you had these two things just
- 0:49Speaker 2: taking everybody's attention, and then all of a sudden, the
- 0:52Speaker 2: Rob Reiner situation. Here's the latest on Rob Reiner. He
- 0:57Speaker 2: lives in Brentwood. This is about a mile and a
- 1:00Speaker 2: half from Ojay's house where Nicole Simpson was killed and
- 1:05Speaker 2: almost stabbed. Wasn't she decapitated? So this is another stabbing
- 1:11Speaker 2: in Brentwood in the same neighborhood. Now, Rob Reiner has
- 1:17Speaker 2: a big, huge house in Brentwood, but it's sort of
- 1:19Speaker 2: a compound, and on the grounds is another couple buildings.
- 1:23Speaker 2: One is a guest house. And Rob Reiner had three
- 1:27Speaker 2: kids with the wife Michelle. But remember he had previously
- 1:32Speaker 2: been married to Penny Marshall, and he had another child.
- 1:37Speaker 2: He had a daughter with Penny Marshall, and that daughter
- 1:41Speaker 2: lived in the guest house. And the police are not
- 1:45Speaker 2: revealing much of anything right now, they're keeping very quiet.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Later today they'll have a press conference and maybe explain
- 1:52Speaker 2: some of this. But here's what I've heard, again, not confirmed,
- 1:56Speaker 2: but the daughter's in the guest house. This is yesterday.
- 1:59Speaker 2: It's a Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon, and she hears incredibly
- 2:04Speaker 2: loud arguing in the main house, real arguing, and at
- 2:09Speaker 2: some point later she goes over to check and finds
- 2:14Speaker 2: Rob Reiner, her father, and her stepmother dead. Calls police
- 2:19Speaker 2: immediately they show up. There's recording these nine to one
- 2:24Speaker 2: one calls that I think there was a fire department
- 2:26Speaker 2: of something that responded first, calling for more back up,
- 2:30Speaker 2: and then the police show up. She tells them about
- 2:33Speaker 2: the arguing. She believes it was the son Nick, son
- 2:38Speaker 2: of Rob Reiner, who's thirty two years old. Now, this
- 2:41Speaker 2: son is a very, very troubled son. Drug addiction, mental,
- 2:46Speaker 2: all kinds of mental problems. He'd been so bad with
- 2:51Speaker 2: the drug addiction. Seventeen times in rehabit didn't work. He
- 2:55Speaker 2: ended up homeless on the street and Texas, homeless, in Maine,
- 2:59Speaker 2: homeless all over the place. I knew Rob Briiner. I
- 3:03Speaker 2: didn't know the kid, but if you look at any
- 3:04Speaker 2: picture of the kid, his eyes look a little psycho,
- 3:06Speaker 2: a little crazy. And I don't know the situation of
- 3:10Speaker 2: how this all started with the drugs and everything, but
- 3:12Speaker 2: he just spiraled out of control and it was so hopeless.
- 3:16Speaker 2: There was absolutely no saving this kid. I'm sure Rob
- 3:20Speaker 2: b Reiner tried, and at one point he came back
- 3:25Speaker 2: to Los Angeles. They thought they straightened him out, and
- 3:27Speaker 2: he made a movie about his drug addiction and about
- 3:31Speaker 2: his rehab and all of that stuff. But I guess
- 3:33Speaker 2: this went crazy again and there was no hope for
- 3:36Speaker 2: this kid. So it looks like he was the one
- 3:42Speaker 2: in this crazy, loud argument with the parents and then
- 3:45Speaker 2: stabbed them and slit their throats again. This is a
- 3:49Speaker 2: mile and a half from where Oj slit the throats
- 3:51Speaker 2: of the wife and Ron Brown. But now from what
- 3:57Speaker 2: I've heard the police, this is not confirmed, but police
- 4:00Speaker 2: have taken the kid into custody. He's thirty two. The
- 4:03Speaker 2: son's name is Nick. They have earlier an hour or
- 4:06Speaker 2: two ago taking him into custody, So that would indicate
- 4:10Speaker 2: they have the evidence they need, or they think they
- 4:13Speaker 2: have the evidence that he's guilty. So it was a
- 4:17Speaker 2: terrible scene at the home yesterday, Police all over the place,
- 4:20Speaker 2: the crime tape up close. Friends of Rob Brner, Billy Crystal,
- 4:24Speaker 2: Larry David was seen coming to the house leaving crying upset.
- 4:29Speaker 2: So there'd be a press conference of some kind. They'll
- 4:31Speaker 2: announce something later today. But apparently the son is in
- 4:36Speaker 2: custody and we'll see what happens. So you got that
- 4:41Speaker 2: going on. You also got Brown University terrible situation. Now,
- 4:45Speaker 2: the first reports indicated it was some sort of something
- 4:48Speaker 2: to do with anti Semitism, anti Semitic attack, small Jewish
- 4:53Speaker 2: community at Brown University, but a lot of people there
- 4:58Speaker 2: are also saying with a very small conservative bunch of
- 5:02Speaker 2: people at Brown University, students and some are not so
- 5:06Speaker 2: sure this was anti semitism. It might have been anti conservatism.
- 5:10Speaker 2: One of the people shot turns out to be the
- 5:13Speaker 2: president's student, but the president of the Republican Club at
- 5:16Speaker 2: Brown University. So it could be anti semitism as a motive,
- 5:20Speaker 2: but there could also be an anti conservative attack. We'll see.
- 5:25Speaker 2: It's the Providence police department, not the sharpest police department
- 5:29Speaker 2: on Earth, and Brown University very prominent university. I'm not
- 5:36Speaker 2: a big fan of their security director. You know, a
- 5:39Speaker 2: lot of times you're a university, when you hire a
- 5:41Speaker 2: security director, you hire somebody with incredible law enforcement experience ex. Police,
- 5:46Speaker 2: X FBI, something like that. This guy his whole life
- 5:51Speaker 2: was campus security. You'll see somewhere in his bio he
- 5:54Speaker 2: was a policeman, a police captain. It was campus police forces.
- 5:58Speaker 2: So he's not a guy with any real law enforcement experience.
- 6:02Speaker 2: He spent his whole life in campus police departments, then
- 6:05Speaker 2: becoming a campus security director other universities and Brown hired
- 6:10Speaker 2: him a couple of years ago. So he's the security director.
- 6:13Speaker 2: And you know, it may not have been anything. There
- 6:17Speaker 2: might not have been anything anybody else could have done
- 6:19Speaker 2: to protect this campus. But you got that going on
- 6:22Speaker 2: then you got the awful, horrific Australia shooting. It was
- 6:25Speaker 2: a Muslim terrorist attack. The shooters a father and son,
- 6:30Speaker 2: both Muslim terrorists, at this beach in Australia, using one
- 6:35Speaker 2: of those assault rifle you know, you know the kind
- 6:38Speaker 2: that Chuck Schumer and the others yell about. Remember whenever
- 6:40Speaker 2: there's a shooting with one of those rifles, all they
- 6:43Speaker 2: do is scream for more gun laws. They act as
- 6:46Speaker 2: if gun laws would prevent shootings. Now nobody has tougher
- 6:51Speaker 2: gun laws than Chicago, and they have more shootings than
- 6:53Speaker 2: any place in America. The problem with the thinking gun
- 6:57Speaker 2: laws as a solution is shooters a c maniacs, criminals
- 7:02Speaker 2: who don't follow laws. They don't get a law book
- 7:04Speaker 2: and look it up to see if it's okay to
- 7:05Speaker 2: do what they're doing. So in this situation, nobody, nobody
- 7:09Speaker 2: in the world, no country, had tougher gun laws than
- 7:12Speaker 2: in Australia. They've been passing gun laws since nineteen ninety six.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Huge gun laws, tremendous gun laws. So it has nothing
- 7:21Speaker 2: to do with stopping shootings. It was a horrible situation.
- 7:25Speaker 2: You got one guy who was a hero who hid
- 7:28Speaker 2: between two parked cars waited for the right moment. The
- 7:32Speaker 2: video is amazing. He runs out, tackles the shooter with
- 7:37Speaker 2: the rifle, somehow wrestles the gun away from him and
- 7:41Speaker 2: stops the shooter makes him lie down. However, remember there
- 7:44Speaker 2: was a second shooter, the Sun, who sees what's going
- 7:47Speaker 2: on and shoots the hero, hitting him twice. But the
- 7:50Speaker 2: hero has just had surgery. It looks like he'll be okay.
- 7:53Speaker 2: He's doing well. It looks like he'll survive and be
- 7:57Speaker 2: just fine. So an incredible hero in Austria, an amazing
- 8:01Speaker 2: act of bravery. He said to he was with somebody
- 8:05Speaker 2: else and he said, I'm not going to survive this.
- 8:06Speaker 2: He decided he would go tackle the shooter and stop
- 8:10Speaker 2: and he said, I'm not going to come out of
- 8:12Speaker 2: this alive. Tell my family this. And that's a but
- 8:15Speaker 2: an amazing, amazing situation. So things could develop this morning.
- 8:20Speaker 2: There's going to be press conferences in La more details
- 8:23Speaker 2: about Rob Reiner. But from we know, the Sun is
- 8:26Speaker 2: in custody. It looks like he is the stabber. It's
- 8:30Speaker 2: a horrible, horrible situation. I knew Rob Reiner. He was
- 8:33Speaker 2: a very nice guy. I know he was a crazy
- 8:37Speaker 2: left wing nut politically, but I had a million conversations
- 8:43Speaker 2: with him. Never once talked about politics. We loved We
- 8:45Speaker 2: would talk about old show business and old comedians and
- 8:48Speaker 2: Sid Caesar and Dick Van Dyke Show and that kind
- 8:50Speaker 2: of stuff. But he's like a lot of Hollywood people,
- 8:54Speaker 2: he just got into the cult. You know, they sit
- 8:56Speaker 2: there and they watch MSNBC all day and they believe
- 8:59Speaker 2: everything they're hearing. They think all this crazy stuff is true.
- 9:03Speaker 2: You know, it's like people who listen to those flying
- 9:04Speaker 2: saucer shows in the middle of the night, which are great,
- 9:07Speaker 2: they're entertaining, but these people start to believe it. They
- 9:10Speaker 2: think there's flying saucers everywhere. So it's the same thing
- 9:13Speaker 2: with the MSNBC crowd. And then they got all these
- 9:18Speaker 2: echo chambers where you know, it's reinforced from MSNBC. Then
- 9:21Speaker 2: they watch Colbert, they watch the crazy ABC Sunday shows.
- 9:27Speaker 2: They think Trump is a crook, a maniac, a dying,
- 9:30Speaker 2: he's a lunatic, he's a dictator. They start to believe
- 9:33Speaker 2: all this stuff. Listen, there's stuff you could not like
- 9:36Speaker 2: about Trump. I understand that, but you know, if they
- 9:41Speaker 2: ever stepped away from all that and got out of
- 9:43Speaker 2: the echo chamber. These Trump derangement syndrome idiots, they might
- 9:48Speaker 2: realize Trump is actually one of the most fascinating guys
- 9:51Speaker 2: in history. You know, there's a at a party yesterday,
- 9:56Speaker 2: a left wing nut, very prominent left wing nut, comes
- 10:00Speaker 2: over to me and he said, you know, I was
- 10:02Speaker 2: I remember you. It was a dinner party a couple
- 10:04Speaker 2: of years ago, and you were telling everybody Trump is
- 10:07Speaker 2: the most successful man in history. And I thought you
- 10:11Speaker 2: were crazy. I said, well, but I laid it out.
- 10:13Speaker 2: He conquers the business world. He then conquers publishing. He'd
- 10:17Speaker 2: be four best sellers. He goes into television, a total
- 10:21Speaker 2: amateur conquers that has the number one show on television.
- 10:24Speaker 2: He goes into politics. You know, usually a total amateur
- 10:28Speaker 2: tries to run for mayor or congres This guy tries
- 10:30Speaker 2: to run for the president. Total amateur wins, beats the
- 10:34Speaker 2: Clinton machine and the Bush machine, to go on and
- 10:37Speaker 2: on listing. I said, you can't name another guy, anybody
- 10:40Speaker 2: who's conquered like all six of these things. And the
- 10:44Speaker 2: guy said, well, yeah, you might be. I don't know,
- 10:46Speaker 2: you might be so anyway, And then I tried to
- 10:48Speaker 2: explain to him. I said, you know, if you guys
- 10:50Speaker 2: would stop hating him, going nuts with your rage, and
- 10:54Speaker 2: start studying this guy, you could learn stuff from him.
- 10:57Speaker 2: You really could learn a lot about how to succeed,
- 11:01Speaker 2: how to do well. It's a more interesting story besides
- 11:05Speaker 2: making up stuff about he's dying or he's a mania,
- 11:07Speaker 2: a crook's. Instead of making up all this stuff, it's
- 11:11Speaker 2: actually a fascinating story to cover. We've never seen anything
- 11:14Speaker 2: like this. A president that works like nineteen hours a day,
- 11:18Speaker 2: a president that holds like seventeen press conferences a day,
- 11:22Speaker 2: a president that's flying all over the place, having a
- 11:24Speaker 2: million it's fascinating. And just to study this guy's whole
- 11:28Speaker 2: life and how he did things, how he got so
- 11:31Speaker 2: successful at everything. You think back a year and a
- 11:34Speaker 2: half ago. The guy's on trial in four different cities.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Can you imagine if you were on trial. Imagine if
- 11:41Speaker 2: you had been brought into court they put you on trial,
- 11:44Speaker 2: you wouldn't sleep at night, you wouldn't be able to
- 11:46Speaker 2: you'd be under so much. This guy's in four trials
- 11:48Speaker 2: in four cities. Looks like he's going to go to
- 11:51Speaker 2: jail forever. He's going to get convicted six thousand times.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Guy didn't even blink, didn't even flinch, fights right through that.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Can you imagine you're standing there in a it hits
- 12:00Speaker 2: you in the head, takes part of your ear off,
- 12:03Speaker 2: and all he can think to do is jump up
- 12:05Speaker 2: and pump his fist and y'll fight. I mean, it's
- 12:07Speaker 2: a guy to study. You could hate him, but study
- 12:10Speaker 2: this guy. You could learn a lot from this guy.
- 12:14Speaker 2: What else James Comer. They're having these hearings in Congress
- 12:18Speaker 2: about Epstein. They've allowed some people to submit written statements
- 12:23Speaker 2: about what they had to do with Epstein. In the
- 12:25Speaker 2: case of Bill Clinton, he's demanding that Bill Clinton come
- 12:28Speaker 2: testify in person. Hillary and Bill. I don't think Hillary
- 12:32Speaker 2: knows much about Epstein. Other you might know something, but
- 12:35Speaker 2: it's Bill that was really involved. But the Clintons apparently
- 12:39Speaker 2: are adamant they will not come and testify, and they
- 12:41Speaker 2: may have to at some point, but they're going to
- 12:44Speaker 2: fight this like crazy not to come and testify. They
- 12:47Speaker 2: know it's a circus, it's a theatrical show to get
- 12:50Speaker 2: you know, cameras there to get Bill Clinton under oath testifying.
- 12:55Speaker 2: So they don't want to do that. Now, remember left
- 12:58Speaker 2: wing media will not show Clinton testifying. They'll show you
- 13:01Speaker 2: one second clip. You know, there's a deposition in the
- 13:04Speaker 2: Monica Lewinsky case. You can go on YouTube and see it.
- 13:08Speaker 2: A deposition where they go into graphic detail, graphic detail
- 13:13Speaker 2: about the sex he had with Monica Lewinsky. You wouldn't
- 13:17Speaker 2: believe the detail. And Clinton's right on camera having to
- 13:20Speaker 2: talk about this. You know, left wing media, they never
- 13:23Speaker 2: showed it, never showed it. If that was Trump, you'd
- 13:25Speaker 2: be seeing it all day and night. It'd be primetime specials. Clinton,
- 13:29Speaker 2: they buried it, So if he testifies, they'll bury this testimony. Now,
- 13:36Speaker 2: he could try to avoid testifying, but remember the last
- 13:40Speaker 2: two guys that tried that were Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon,
- 13:44Speaker 2: and they were sent to prison for not showing up
- 13:47Speaker 2: in person to testify. So the last two, now they
- 13:50Speaker 2: were Trump people, but they were sent to prison. So
- 13:55Speaker 2: that's the precedent that's been set. So Clinton had better
- 13:59Speaker 2: show for this testimony. Hey, we're kind of keeping the secret,
- 14:04Speaker 2: but I just saw a press release went out. I'm
- 14:08Speaker 2: taking the last two weeks of the year off. Next
- 14:10Speaker 2: week I'll be off, and the week after two weeks
- 14:12Speaker 2: I'll be off. It'll be the Christmas break.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I know.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I hate to take that much time off, but you
- 14:18Speaker 2: get you know, you have all these vacation days. You
- 14:20Speaker 2: got to use them. So I'll be taking the last
- 14:22Speaker 2: two weeks off. It'll be the Christmas break. I guess
- 14:25Speaker 2: I can say it. There's a press release that went out.
- 14:26Speaker 2: It's been announced. Guess who's going to fill in for
- 14:28Speaker 2: me for two weeks. Curtis Lee. Curtis will be here
- 14:34Speaker 2: for two weeks doing the show. That'll be great. He
- 14:37Speaker 2: hasn't been heard on radio in a while. He had
- 14:39Speaker 2: to go off the air course to run for mayor,
- 14:42Speaker 2: and he's mad at his old station. I don't know
- 14:45Speaker 2: what will happen there, but you'll be able to hear
- 14:48Speaker 2: Curtis next week and the week after. Two weeks he'll
- 14:51Speaker 2: be filling in for me. You know, for many, many,
- 14:54Speaker 2: many many years he had the number one morning radio show,
- 14:57Speaker 2: morning talk show in New York City. So that'll be
- 15:01Speaker 2: great to hear them again. That's coming up. Hey, if
- 15:04Speaker 2: you're saying I gotta get out of New York, who
- 15:06Speaker 2: the hell wants to live here anymore? It's too cold,
- 15:08Speaker 2: the snow, it's awful here maybe I'll move to Florida,
- 15:13Speaker 2: Maybe I'll move to North Carolina. Go walk around the
- 15:15Speaker 2: streets of New York in the next week or two
- 15:17Speaker 2: and look at the tourists. Normally I'm not here on
- 15:21Speaker 2: the weekends, but I was here yesterday. I had to
- 15:23Speaker 2: go a lot of Christmas parties. But all over the
- 15:25Speaker 2: place yesterday, the tourists are everywhere, and they've paid a
- 15:31Speaker 2: fortune to come to New York. You know, if you
- 15:32Speaker 2: come to New York right now at Christmas time, hotel
- 15:34Speaker 2: rates are huge. You can't even get a hotel room
- 15:37Speaker 2: right now. But watch these tourists, Watch them with their kids,
- 15:42Speaker 2: watch them walking around looking at everything we take for granted.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Watch them look at it with just their eyes light up.
- 15:47Speaker 2: They can't believe the things they're seeing, stuff they've only
- 15:50Speaker 2: seen on Instagram. Not just the tree, but all the
- 15:53Speaker 2: great restaurants, hotels, stores, the streets. They just they paid
- 15:59Speaker 2: a fort to come here. So don't take it for granted.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Don't get it's terrible. It was freezing cold yesterday, wash snow,
- 16:10Speaker 2: black ice. They were walking around so thrilled to be here,
- 16:14Speaker 2: thrilled to be here. Don't take it for granted. You
- 16:18Speaker 2: should really be thrilled that you're in the middle of
- 16:21Speaker 2: New York City. You know, people take things for granted.
- 16:24Speaker 2: I got a friend who's a big comedian. He's appearing
- 16:26Speaker 2: on cruise ships, luxury cruise ships. They pay him a
- 16:32Speaker 2: lot of money, and when you're the star performer, they
- 16:35Speaker 2: give you the most beautiful stateroom. Everything is free, meals everything.
- 16:41Speaker 2: This is going on for weeks, he's on different ships.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Calls me. Every wants to kill himself. Once I got
- 16:46Speaker 2: to get out of it. It's the worst. I can't
- 16:48Speaker 2: stand that said. You know, everybody else in the ship
- 16:50Speaker 2: saved up for years to afford this cruise. It's the
- 16:53Speaker 2: dream vacation, and you're complaining that people start to take
- 16:56Speaker 2: things for granted. Friend of mine's a travel agent, you know,
- 17:00Speaker 2: and you're a big travel agent. The top hotels of
- 17:02Speaker 2: the world will fly you over there. It's they call
- 17:05Speaker 2: it something site inspection or something super luxury hotel in Europe.
- 17:10Speaker 2: You have to go stay there for a few days.
- 17:11Speaker 2: They fly you on the finest first class airline, biggest hotel.
- 17:15Speaker 2: They take it. All the top restaurants. So you know,
- 17:17Speaker 2: as a travel consultant, you can tell everybody they call
- 17:22Speaker 2: me from there. Oh God, I got to go to
- 17:24Speaker 2: another hotel.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Huh.
- 17:25Speaker 2: I just want to go home. This is a dream
- 17:28Speaker 2: vacation for you, and they're complaining about it. So it's
- 17:29Speaker 2: the same thing with New York. Stop complaining. Go out
- 17:32Speaker 2: today and look at all the tourists and the wonderment
- 17:35Speaker 2: in their eyes as they look around in New York. Hey,
- 17:37Speaker 2: we'll take some calls.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Next.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Eight hundred three to two one zero seven ten is
- 17:41Speaker 2: the number eight hundred three to two one zero seven ten.
- 17:46Speaker 2: If you're listening to Mark on the iHeartRadio app, save
- 17:49Speaker 2: time and tap the preset button.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Now.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Now back to the Mark Simone show on wo WAW. Hey,
- 17:57Speaker 2: let's take some calls. Go to Liz in White Planes. Liz,
- 18:00Speaker 2: how you doing?
- 18:02Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 18:02Speaker 4: Hi, Mark, I'm great. Before I start, I just want
- 18:04Speaker 4: to say, have a great two weeks off. You will
- 18:06Speaker 4: be missed for sure.
- 18:08Speaker 5: Thanks.
- 18:08Speaker 4: You know, I often hear you talk kind of brag
- 18:11Speaker 4: about Jimmy Fayle's show. Yeah, and I was thinking I
- 18:14Speaker 4: didn't want to listen to three hours of company, but
- 18:16Speaker 4: he has a great political show.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's on every night on nine o'clock. You're on
- 18:21Speaker 2: seven ten, W nine o'clock.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Really, really a great show.
- 18:26Speaker 4: People should know.
- 18:27Speaker 2: This nine o'clock tonight, nine to midnight, every weeknight on
- 18:31Speaker 2: w o R. It's a great, great show. Let's go
- 18:33Speaker 2: to Vince in Florida. Vince, how you doing.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Good morning. You know the two shooters I just read
- 18:40Speaker 1: in Australia which is almost impossible to get a gun
- 18:43Speaker 1: owned guns legally, which reminded me of the story that
- 18:45Speaker 1: happened here in Fort Pierce. I just moved down here.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I'm at a gun store and he tells me the shooter,
- 18:51Speaker 1: Olmar Mateen, the guy that killed the fifty kids in
- 18:54Speaker 1: the nightclub, went to that gun store, tried to buy guns.
- 18:58Speaker 1: They overheard him on the phone and they I'm selling
- 19:00Speaker 1: him guns. They gave the owner his background information. The
- 19:04Speaker 1: owner called the FDI two weeks before the shooting.
- 19:07Speaker 5: This was Yeah.
- 19:07Speaker 2: You hear a lot of these guys came down there.
- 19:09Speaker 2: You hear a lot of these kind of stories where
- 19:10Speaker 2: they could have caught the guy. They didn't catch the guy.
- 19:13Speaker 1: They didn't catch them, and the FBI denied anything.
- 19:16Speaker 2: In the other they call the FBI for you, Hey,
- 19:18Speaker 2: yeah you got you got a lot of crazy people
- 19:20Speaker 2: down there in Florida and nothing personal, but you know
- 19:23Speaker 2: what I mean, I don't know if it's no heat
- 19:25Speaker 2: or what it is. Yeah, no, no, I'm just saying
- 19:28Speaker 2: you got a lot of crazy people down there in Florida. Yeah,
- 19:30Speaker 2: how many? Per cappity got more crazy incidents there with
- 19:33Speaker 2: guns and things than than anywhere else. Let's go to
- 19:37Speaker 2: Virginia in massive Peakua Virginia.
- 19:39Speaker 1: How you doing, Bhie Mark.
- 19:42Speaker 6: Merry Christmas. And I'm so happy. Oh my god, I'm
- 19:45Speaker 6: so excited.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I'm sorry about me.
- 19:47Speaker 6: I'm so happy to hear the Curtisy. I'm a new listener.
- 19:50Speaker 6: I'm actually a new listener. Yes, I'm happy about YouTube.
- 19:53Speaker 6: I am a new listener. I used to listen to
- 19:55Speaker 6: w w ABC for Curtis.
- 19:57Speaker 7: We were only and it's he's just he's funny, he's
- 20:03Speaker 7: on point about everything. He's a sworn man and driving
- 20:06Speaker 7: to work this morning. Like I said, a new listener,
- 20:08Speaker 7: I've been listening about a week and just to hear
- 20:10Speaker 7: that Curtis is coming on WORE, which people have been
- 20:14Speaker 7: talking about online. It's just like the best early Christmas
- 20:16Speaker 7: gifts ever.
- 20:17Speaker 2: And uh, well, you got to hear lots of lots
- 20:20Speaker 2: of Curtis. He'll be filling in for me for two weeks. Yeah,
- 20:25Speaker 2: oh wait a minute, December twenty second through. I think
- 20:28Speaker 2: I'm off Friday. That might be Ken Risotto. But next
- 20:30Speaker 2: week you'll get Curtis. Next week you'll get Curtis for
- 20:35Speaker 2: two weeks.
- 20:35Speaker 6: It's just it's really good because I know that he's
- 20:37Speaker 6: you know, you guys will maybe he'll find a spot
- 20:40Speaker 6: or whatever. I really like the station. I'm enjoying everything
- 20:43Speaker 6: that I'm hearing, and it's just really refreshing to have
- 20:47Speaker 6: people of station that doesn't insult their listeners and cold
- 20:50Speaker 6: the morons and the fact that Curtis is going to
- 20:52Speaker 6: be on and you know.
- 20:53Speaker 2: This minute, I call people morons.
- 20:57Speaker 6: No, I mean there are people deservedly.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I only call mons morons. I don't care regular people though,
- 21:02Speaker 2: but no, I know, Hey, we're glad to have you
- 21:04Speaker 2: as a listener. Thanks, thanks for coming on board. Be
- 21:07Speaker 2: listening for Curtis. Next week. Let's go to Vincent and Brooklyn. Vincent,
- 21:11Speaker 2: how you doing.
- 21:12Speaker 5: Good morning, Marc, Good morning Mara. As you pointed out
- 21:15Speaker 5: earlier in the show, there's no country in the world
- 21:18Speaker 5: that has more restrictive gun or no perhaps New Zealand,
- 21:22Speaker 5: where you can't even own a p shooter. This demonstrates
- 21:27Speaker 5: that when you restrict guns like that and to the people,
- 21:34Speaker 5: the legal people, like they did in Australia. They even
- 21:37Speaker 5: confiscated rifles in Australia, and in the NRA magazine they
- 21:42Speaker 5: showed you this mountain, this pile of all the guns
- 21:45Speaker 5: they confiscated. Then only the criminals could get them, because
- 21:51Speaker 5: criminals have a different mindset. Legit people, when they can't
- 21:55Speaker 5: get something, they can't get a gun, all right, that's it,
- 21:58Speaker 5: the end of the story. But criminals they will find
- 22:02Speaker 5: one way or another to get a gun. And I
- 22:06Speaker 5: heard a commentator used to come on your show last
- 22:10Speaker 5: night say that there've even been studies that show when
- 22:15Speaker 5: the more legal guns there are in a town and
- 22:18Speaker 5: a place, the less crime there is. This poor Soob
- 22:22Speaker 5: had to jump the guy with his bare hands and
- 22:25Speaker 5: he managed to pull the gun away from him. Imagine
- 22:29Speaker 5: if that guy, the shooter was a little bit swifter,
- 22:33Speaker 5: he could have turned around and killed that guy who
- 22:36Speaker 5: took the gun out of his hand. That's why I
- 22:39Speaker 5: hope now they get rid of Australia's president, get somebody
- 22:43Speaker 5: who's got common sense, like Donald Trump, because even though
- 22:47Speaker 5: their prime minister is a conservative, the guy's out of
- 22:50Speaker 5: his mind for doing what he did. Any criminal. I mean,
- 22:55Speaker 5: if I wanted to get Doug, please, don't let me
- 22:59Speaker 5: talk if.
- 22:59Speaker 2: I want no, no, no, don't say it, Vincent, don't
- 23:01Speaker 2: say it. You know, I mean a good point though,
- 23:04Speaker 2: what I mean, I know what you mean.
- 23:06Speaker 5: But Vincent, excellent, Gonna have bit.
- 23:09Speaker 2: All right, Vincent, great call, Thanks for colling. Oh when
- 23:12Speaker 2: we come back, Ed Rollins will be with us.
- 23:14Speaker 5: Hey.
- 23:15Speaker 2: If anybody says to you, well, what's gonna happen next year,
- 23:17Speaker 2: who's going to win the midterms, It's a totally invalid question.
- 23:21Speaker 2: We'll go into why coming up next on seven to
- 23:24Speaker 2: ten w R.
- 23:26Speaker 6: Wow, you're listening to the Mark Simone Show on WR.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Well, let's turn to the dean himself, the greatest political
- 23:35Speaker 2: consultant the Hall, Ed Rollins. He's run more campaign successful
- 23:39Speaker 2: campaigns than anybody, Ed Rollins, How you doing.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Good morning, Mark?
- 23:44Speaker 2: Are you I'm good?
- 23:45Speaker 5: Hey?
- 23:45Speaker 2: You probably get this all the time. People say, oh,
- 23:47Speaker 2: what's gonna happen in the midterms, So who's going to
- 23:49Speaker 2: win the midterm? Predicting that is like predicting the twenty
- 23:52Speaker 2: twenty eighth Super Bowl. I mean, the landscape is going
- 23:55Speaker 2: to change between now and then, isn't it.
- 23:57Speaker 3: It's going to change dramatically. And then I think, here's
- 24:00Speaker 3: what does happen though, I can sort of go through
- 24:02Speaker 3: a fifty year street. Members go home and the holidays
- 24:07Speaker 3: and their family gets all together, and they basically they
- 24:11Speaker 3: do I really want to do this for another two
- 24:13Speaker 3: years or four years? Do any of them ambitious or
- 24:17Speaker 3: eden senators? Do I want to do? Do you want
- 24:18Speaker 3: to run for another re election? So oftentimes in January
- 24:22Speaker 3: there's a number that's say thank you very much, I've
- 24:25Speaker 3: had enough of this, or I'm going to run for
- 24:26Speaker 3: something else. As of right now, they're fifty three members
- 24:29Speaker 3: who announced that they're not going to run for election.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Forty three of those are House members, the other tenor
- 24:36Speaker 3: US Senators. And I think to a certain extent that
- 24:39Speaker 3: the recruitment is going to go on now is because
- 24:42Speaker 3: Democrats do think they're going to win this House easily,
- 24:46Speaker 3: and there's a possibility they're going to win the Senate.
- 24:49Speaker 3: They're out there recruiting anxiously. What we're trying to do
- 24:52Speaker 3: is that the president team has to do is to
- 24:53Speaker 3: sort of make sure that the vulnerable incomes are getting
- 24:56Speaker 3: ready for run for reelection. It's the year long fo
- 25:00Speaker 3: This seems like a year is a long time, but
- 25:02Speaker 3: it's not in politics. And so they leave Christmas. You'll
- 25:05Speaker 3: probably see in January an other ten or fifteen members,
- 25:09Speaker 3: thank you very much. I've had a nice career, and
- 25:11Speaker 3: they start became our retirement, and then you fill on
- 25:13Speaker 3: the blanks and you begin begin in February to start
- 25:16Speaker 3: running and running hard. The president's agenda ahead of him
- 25:19Speaker 3: is an aggressive one and it's a tough one getting
- 25:23Speaker 3: the budgets through and what have you. And the origins
- 25:25Speaker 3: are so small that he has both the House and
- 25:27Speaker 3: the Senate. But his task is tough.
- 25:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:31Speaker 2: So when you say some people may leave Congress, I
- 25:33Speaker 2: don't need this anymore. Let me leave. What do they
- 25:35Speaker 2: do that They can make a lot of money, right,
- 25:37Speaker 2: lobbying or something like that.
- 25:38Speaker 3: So some can, some very few members go back home.
- 25:42Speaker 3: They all promise they're going to go back home. Some
- 25:47Speaker 3: you know, people say, well, you know, when you decide
- 25:50Speaker 3: to quit, come work for me, and some just you know,
- 25:53Speaker 3: decide this is not what it's not what I want
- 25:55Speaker 3: to spend my time. This sort of been a very
- 25:57Speaker 3: frustrating year if you were bubbled them to be in
- 25:59Speaker 3: the Congress and you get the big bill best which
- 26:03Speaker 3: obviously normally you have lots of builds that you passed,
- 26:06Speaker 3: but they combine it all on one thing, so there's
- 26:08Speaker 3: not a lot of activity, and you know they want
- 26:11Speaker 3: they want home for a period of time. They getting
- 26:13Speaker 3: beat up for that a certain extent. So so I
- 26:16Speaker 3: would say when I was the chairman of the Congression Committee,
- 26:19Speaker 3: to the chairman, people said say, why don't you run
- 26:21Speaker 3: for Congress? I say, thank you very much. I might
- 26:24Speaker 3: be behind the scenes. I don't want to. I don't
- 26:26Speaker 3: want to spend my day arguing with four hundred thirty
- 26:28Speaker 3: five other people every day. And I think to a
- 26:30Speaker 3: certain extent, that's that's where a lot of members may be.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Once that numbers changed and altered in the sense we
- 26:36Speaker 3: know how many running, and then the race is going
- 26:38Speaker 3: to begin.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Hey, ed Relands. If the healthcare, if they don't fix
- 26:43Speaker 2: the healthcare situation, put a patch on it or something,
- 26:46Speaker 2: healthcare costs are going to go nuts. It's the fault
- 26:50Speaker 2: of Obama and Obamacare. But isn't aren't there Republicans going
- 26:53Speaker 2: to get blamed for it.
- 26:54Speaker 3: Oh yes, absolutely, there's no question Republicans going to We've
- 26:59Speaker 3: not had a just an healthcare plan in twenty years.
- 27:03Speaker 3: We used to have some real experts on it when
- 27:06Speaker 3: Bob Dole was the leader, because of his only personal
- 27:09Speaker 3: healthcare every problems over the years, he knew a lot
- 27:11Speaker 3: about healthcare. He had a chief of staff, Sheila Burke,
- 27:14Speaker 3: was a nurse who do a lot about healthcare. We
- 27:17Speaker 3: don't have a lot of experts now. And you know
- 27:19Speaker 3: our premise of you know, let's have saving those accounts
- 27:21Speaker 3: to what have you? If I gave you a two
- 27:23Speaker 3: thousand dollars savings account, which is what the new Gingrish
- 27:26Speaker 3: plan was, you'll go from that real quick, first time
- 27:30Speaker 3: you can, to a doctor, and if there's anything that
- 27:33Speaker 3: happens to you, you know the astronomical. So not only
- 27:39Speaker 3: will twenty two million people be affected by this, the
- 27:42Speaker 3: reality is their costs will go up dramatically. Those who
- 27:46Speaker 3: can afford a lot of Americas going to say I
- 27:48Speaker 3: can't afford it. I'm just not gonna and that creates
- 27:51Speaker 3: a real chaos. The best courted Republicans can do is
- 27:55Speaker 3: extend this thing for year subsidies. Democrats aren't going to
- 27:59Speaker 3: do because obviously they want they want to get to
- 28:02Speaker 3: the next election with the rise and prices and what
- 28:05Speaker 3: have you. So I think, to a certain extent, we've
- 28:07Speaker 3: got we've got a couple of months here real chaos
- 28:10Speaker 3: with those those here solutions. I would say, this point
- 28:12Speaker 3: in time, we're not We're not going to the healthcare
- 28:15Speaker 3: is not going to get fisted a short period of time.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Well, I'm not an expert, but uh, just common sense.
- 28:20Speaker 2: I would think if you let the government take over healthcare,
- 28:23Speaker 2: the cost is going to go way up. It wouldn't
- 28:25Speaker 2: that be true?
- 28:26Speaker 3: Absolutely well, to a certain extent, the government does pay
- 28:29Speaker 3: them the past. If you are in health care today
- 28:32Speaker 3: and it's you know, I don't I don't think that
- 28:36Speaker 3: Kennedy is ready to do that, start care of pills,
- 28:39Speaker 3: the units versus president. I don't think it's order to
- 28:41Speaker 3: do that. And President's got a lot a lot of
- 28:44Speaker 3: less play, I think to a certain extent, but most
- 28:46Speaker 3: Americans are going to suffer measurably about it, because even
- 28:50Speaker 3: if even if you have health insurance today been a
- 28:52Speaker 3: private company, because of the burden of I mean, twenty
- 28:55Speaker 3: two million people from the Obamacare program. He's got to
- 28:59Speaker 3: find there or reach a're gonna be well. Healthcare rates
- 29:03Speaker 3: are not going down. They haven't gone down a long
- 29:05Speaker 3: long time. And it's an expensive entity and there's a
- 29:08Speaker 3: lot of people that are experts on it who are
- 29:10Speaker 3: not very happy with what we have.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Yeah, Ed Rowlins, if you want to run in twenty
- 29:15Speaker 2: twenty eight, Gavin Newsom or whoever, if you want to
- 29:17Speaker 2: run in twenty twenty eight, what should you be doing now?
- 29:20Speaker 2: Is there anything you can really do now for that?
- 29:23Speaker 3: Sure, you can raise money, line up your supporters, your
- 29:26Speaker 3: line up your team. I mean there's four or five
- 29:29Speaker 3: of them that are running right now. And what you
- 29:31Speaker 3: try and do is you tap into easy advantage of
- 29:34Speaker 3: the midterm elections to go out and made friends around
- 29:37Speaker 3: the country in key states. You know, I think Gavin
- 29:40Speaker 3: Newson's going to do is just continue to beat up
- 29:42Speaker 3: on Trump and fight with Trump, and that seems to
- 29:45Speaker 3: be working for him. He is a mess of the state.
- 29:47Speaker 3: In California. No one's talking about the best in californiaybody's
- 29:50Speaker 3: talking about whatever great job he's doing. Beat that by
- 29:53Speaker 3: the president. Yeah, the same thing in Illinois. So my
- 29:56Speaker 3: sense is those who are going to run, it's going
- 29:58Speaker 3: to be four or five at least. Uh, some new
- 30:01Speaker 3: governors that maybe will have some political ambition beyond where
- 30:04Speaker 3: they are. It's gonna be a full field.
- 30:07Speaker 5: Yes.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Yeah, in the old days that Reagan came from California
- 30:10Speaker 2: and one, but nowadays it's been a one party state
- 30:13Speaker 2: for so long. Guys like Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris, they've
- 30:16Speaker 2: never been tested in two party states. So aren't isn't
- 30:19Speaker 2: name body from California canna have a problem trying to
- 30:21Speaker 2: run nationally?
- 30:23Speaker 3: Well, but he moved out. You moved out of the California.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Why you haven't had any competitions in California is they
- 30:29Speaker 3: basically created a system. Instead of a Republican or a
- 30:31Speaker 3: Democrat winning the nominations and running against each other, the
- 30:34Speaker 3: top two get nominated. Uh. So it could be two
- 30:37Speaker 3: Democrats running against each other, uh and two Republicans. It's
- 30:44Speaker 3: never happened that way. But the reality is kind of
- 30:46Speaker 3: the one party system. So the reality is he doesn't
- 30:50Speaker 3: want to talk about California. He wants to talk about nationally.
- 30:53Speaker 3: What what Trump has not done as opposed to what
- 30:55Speaker 3: he has done and he's you know, he's I don't
- 30:59Speaker 3: get it, but he's a arismatic figures got a fifty
- 31:02Speaker 3: four to fifty five percent of brewery in California, which
- 31:04Speaker 3: is pretty mess and whose California has not been in
- 31:07Speaker 3: play since, you know, since Bush and eighty eight. You know,
- 31:10Speaker 3: it's a it's a hard stage for us to win,
- 31:13Speaker 3: and I think to cird extent east to an easy
- 31:15Speaker 3: state force.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Well, and Rollin's brilliant as always, keep up the great work,
- 31:19Speaker 2: and we'll talk again soon in wonderful holiday.
- 31:23Speaker 3: And have they honka to all your business stuff there?
- 31:26Speaker 2: All right? Thanks, take care, uh hey, don't forget coming
