[SPEAKER_00]: Today, as we continue our week on being poor and spirit, we'll assess our hearts regarding storing up treasures on earth, versus in heaven.
• 0:15
[SPEAKER_00]: We see this theme repeatedly in the words of Jesus, and it is my prayer we're able to heed His words and embrace what they mean for us.
• 0:24
[SPEAKER_00]: As we turn our attention toward God today, may our hearts be fully open to His wisdom and guidance.
• 1:00
[SPEAKER_00]: Our Scripture for today comes from Matthew 6, verse 33, Scripture says.
• 1:07
[SPEAKER_00]: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
• 1:17
[SPEAKER_00]: To be poor and spirit is to seek wealth and heaven rather than in the things of the world.
• 1:25
[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus says in Matthew 5.3, blessed or the poor and spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
• 1:33
[SPEAKER_00]: We have no reason to be poor and spirit if we're after the world.
• 1:38
[SPEAKER_00]: The world does not reward those who acknowledge their weaknesses.
• 1:42
[SPEAKER_00]: The world does not revere and honor those who are open and honest about their brokenness.
• 1:49
[SPEAKER_00]: But God says in Proverbs 29, 23, one's pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.
• 2:01
[SPEAKER_00]: Seeking wealth in heaven and honor from the one true God requires us to live in light of the fact that we are dust.
• 2:10
[SPEAKER_00]: God rewards only those who obey His command to be poor and spirit.
• 2:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Scripture is clear that our actions here on earth affect our eternal life.
• 2:22
[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus says in Matthew 6, verses 19 through 21, and verse 24, do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, wear moth and rust and destroy, and wear thieves, break in and steal.
• 2:38
[SPEAKER_00]: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither wrath nor rest destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
• 2:47
[SPEAKER_00]: For where your treasure is, their your heart will be also.
• 2:52
[SPEAKER_00]: No one can serve two masters.
• 2:55
[SPEAKER_00]: For either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.
• 3:02
[SPEAKER_00]: You cannot serve God and money.
• 3:08
[SPEAKER_00]: What Jesus is not saying in Matthew 6 is that we are not to have any form of money here on earth.
• 3:15
[SPEAKER_00]: God knows our needs, and in the very next section of Scripture, He tells us not to fear for them because he promises to provide.
• 3:24
[SPEAKER_00]: What He is saying is summed up in Matthew 6 verse 33, but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
• 3:36
[SPEAKER_00]: to be poor and spirit on earth is to be rich in heaven.
• 3:41
[SPEAKER_00]: God honors and blesses those who live according to His commands rather than seeking pleasure in the world.
• 3:50
[SPEAKER_00]: Psalm 13 verses 7 through 8 says, He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with princes with the princes of His people.
• 4:03
[SPEAKER_00]: When we seek earthly wealth, it dies with us.
• 4:08
[SPEAKER_00]: But when we live in truth, acknowledging that we are dust and that all the worldly pursuits are fleeting and folly, all that's left is to give our heart to God.
• 4:20
[SPEAKER_00]: Take time today in guided prayer, to assess whether you are pursuing the things of the world or if your heart is solely devoted to God's kingdom, assess whether you are seeking fulfillment for your spiritual need or attempting to fill the voids in your life with earthly success.
• 4:40
[SPEAKER_00]: and commit your heart to the Lord alone that you might receive heavenly reward that will satisfy you for all eternity.
• 4:49

• 4:51
[SPEAKER_00]: He longs to provide abundantly for all your needs, both here on earth and in heaven.
• 4:58
[SPEAKER_00]: But the gateway to both is narrow and requires you to be poor and spirit.
• 5:05
[SPEAKER_00]: May your heart be entirely God's today as you seek satisfaction and provision in Him alone.
• 5:28
